It was another full year between the first and second rate hikes.\nThis time, the Fed is most likely to launch the taper in January, according to a Reuters poll. Getting two rate hikes in by the end of 2023, as the forecasts showed on Tuesday, would substantially shorten the runway for the handoff from the taper to a rates liftoff, and the rate increases also are projected to come more quickly.\nON THE SAME PAGE WITH MARKETS?\nThat's not to say the shift in gears, from easing policy to slowly tightening it, is imminent.\nThe economy, Fed Chair Jerome Powell noted on Wednesday, still has \"a ways\" to go before it will have healed enough for the Fed to start paring the monthly bond purchases. And the timing of the rates liftoff isn't even in the conversation, he said.\nThe Fed's rate projections have made half-point jumps before, particularly in the 2014-2016 period when the central bank was beginning its exit from the policies used during the earlier financial crisis.\nBut at that point the central bank was also in the middle of a consequential rethink about how the economy worked, and in particular was steadily lowering its estimates of the long-run \"neutral\" rate of interest used to assess whether monetary policy is encouraging or discouraging economic activity. In comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 in China starts at 249,900 yuan.Wu said the P5 would roll out to customers in China in the third or fourth quarter of this year. Xpeng has also expanded into Norway, its first international market. Wu said that the company will expand its footprint in northern Europe and the P5 would eventually be launched there. He gave no timelines on when this might happen.Driverless techXpeng has tried to push the advancement of its self-driving features to differentiate from its competitors.The P5 is equipped with so-called Lidar, or Light Detection and Ranging technology. Lidar systems send out lasers that bounce back and can measure distance. Those returning beams are processed by an algorithm to create a three dimensional representation of surrounding objects — a key technology for autonomous vehicles to understand their environment.Xpeng claims that Lidar can help the P5 distinguish pedestrians, cyclists and scooters as well as road works — even at night and under low-light conditions.On Wednesday, the Chinese vehicle maker also released a new version ofXPILOT, its so-called advanced driver-assistancesystem (ADAS). This refers to a system with some autonomous features but where a driver is still required.XPILOT 3.5 will have an updated version of afeature called Navigation Guided Pilot or NGP, which allows users to autonomously do tasks such as changing lanes or overtaking cars. Some of these features will work on city roads for the first time. Previously, NGP was just designed for highways.Xpeng’s XPILOT is an attempt to compete with Tesla’s own ADAS system called Autopilot as well as other rivals like Nio with its Nio Pilot.“In P7 we launched NGP … only on highways. But highway driving only occupies like 10% of peoples’ driving time. In comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 alone sold more than 137,000 units in 2020 in China.Wu said Xpeng has developed a lot of technology which he believes gives the company an edge.“We are definitely a step, a few steps ahead, you know as compared to most of our competitors. It's a company that regularly trades at a premium to its book value -- and for good reason. U.S. Bancorp has seen its users embrace technology, with the percentage of consumer loans completed digitally skyrocketing over the past two years. Being able to consolidate its physical branches, while also avoiding riskier derivative investments that have gotten U.S. money-center banks in trouble, has helped U.S. Bancorp to some of the highest return on assets among big banks.</p>\n<h2>8. Moody's: $8.5 billion</h2>\n<p>Credit agency and analytics company <b>Moody's</b> (NYSE:MCO) is yet another top-10 holding that's been held for longer than two decades. With an initial cost basis of just over $10, Berkshire Hathaway is sitting on an unrealized gain of better than 3,300% -- and this isn't accounting for dividends. Historically low lending rates have kept Moody's credit rating segment busy, while volatile trading markets are boosting demand for Moody's analytics. In March, BYD sold 16,301 EVs, which is more than higher-profile competitors <b>NIO</b>&nbsp;and <b>XPeng</b>&nbsp;delivered on a combined basis in the same month. With the Society of Automotive Engineers of China forecasting that half of all new vehicles sales in 2035 will be powered by alternative energy, BYD is in pole position to disrupt the largest auto market in the world.</p>\n<h2>10. Eight of the 18 policymakers see at least three rate hikes by then.</p>\n<p>And though the Fed made no forecasts about its $120 billion monthly bond-buying program - which, along with rock-bottom interest rates, is keeping borrowing costs low and supporting economic growth - policymakers have said they will phase out the program before they begin raising rates.</p>\n<p>Following the 2007-2009 financial crisis and recession, it was a full two years from the formal announcement in December 2013 of the bond-buying taper to the first interest rate increase. The taper wrapped up in 10 months and left a still-wobbly economy more than a year to prepare for higher borrowing costs. It was another full year between the first and second rate hikes.</p>\n<p>This time, the Fed is most likely to launch the taper in January, according to a Reuters poll. And the timing of the rates liftoff isn't even in the conversation, he said.</p>\n<p>The Fed's rate projections have made half-point jumps before, particularly in the 2014-2016 period when the central bank was beginning its exit from the policies used during the earlier financial crisis.</p>\n<p>But at that point the central bank was also in the middle of a consequential rethink about how the economy worked, and in particular was steadily lowering its estimates of the long-run \"neutral\" rate of interest used to assess whether monetary policy is encouraging or discouraging economic activity.
