The ride inspired a 1997 made-for-television Disney film with <b>Steve Guttenberg</b>and the studio has trying to develop a theatrical feature since 2015.</p>\n<p><b>What Else Happened:</b>Besides giving “Tower of Terror” the kibosh, the studio is also closing the door on any potential future projects with Johansson, whosued Disneyover breach of contract in connection with having her “Black Widow” salary linked to the film’s theatrical release. The studio gave the film a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release, which Johansson said violated her contract and ensured she would be receiving less money for her performance.</p>\n<p>Johansson’s only other 2021 film role will be a voice performance in the animated film “Sing 2” from <b>Comcast Corporation’s</b> Universal Pictures, which is scheduled for a December release. The ride inspired a 1997 made-for-television Disney film with Steve Guttenbergand the studio has trying to develop a theatrical feature since 2015.\nWhat Else Happened:Besides giving “Tower of Terror” the kibosh, the studio is also closing the door on any potential future projects with Johansson, whosued Disneyover breach of contract in connection with having her “Black Widow” salary linked to the film’s theatrical release. The studio gave the film a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release, which Johansson said violated her contract and ensured she would be receiving less money for her performance.\nJohansson’s only other 2021 film role will be a voice performance in the animated film “Sing 2” from Comcast Corporation’s Universal Pictures, which is scheduled for a December release. She is in pre-production as star and producer on the science-fiction drama “Bride,” which will be released by A24 and Apple Inc. .\nIn early 2020, Johansson and Chris Evans were cited in multiple entertainment media sources as being in talks to star in a remake of the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” for the AT&T subsidiary Warner Bros. However, Evans told an interviewer in March the project has been put on indefinite hold because the projected film budget became too large.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":421,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":896771816,"gmtCreate":1628607734135,"gmtModify":1676529796575,"author":{"id":"3566977358597597","authorId":"3566977358597597","name":"x2doubt","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3568222443c539be8d2a37f9e8cbc6b0","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566977358597597","authorIdStr":"3566977358597597"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Whatt","listText":"Whatt","text":"Whatt","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/896771816","repostId":"1136191508","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1136191508","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1628604665,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1136191508?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-10 22:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Robinhood Agrees to Buy Say Technologies for $140 Million","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1136191508","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- Robinhood Markets Inc. agreed to buy Say Technologies, a tool for shareholder voting ","content":"<p>(Bloomberg) -- Robinhood Markets Inc. agreed to buy Say Technologies, a tool for shareholder voting and communication, in its first acquisition as a public company.</p>\n<p>The approximately $140 million all-cash deal will give Robinhood access to Say’s software, which helps company shareholders exercise their right to vote proxies and ask questions of management, according to a blog post Tuesday. Here's why it could pay off.","content":"<p>For more than 20 years, <b>Netflix</b> (NASDAQ:NFLX) has provided its customers with access to television shows and movies, first on DVDs and now through streaming.</p>\n<p>The company has always been disciplined with its approach. It's rejected calls to get into providing live TV like sports or news, and it has resisted the idea of monetizing its platform through advertising, choosing instead to stick with a simple subscription-only plan.</p>\n<p>Now, Netflix is ready to break that mold. The company said in its second-quarter shareholder letter that it was in the \"early stages of further expanding into gaming,\" and that it views gaming as another content category, like unscripted shows or animation.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e11aec1bae4010b3fd697461aa682a88\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"393\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Image source: Netflix.</span></p>\n<p>Management said it would begin with mobile gaming, but tamped down expectations on the second-quarter earnings call, saying that it views games as complementary to streaming and that streaming would remain the core of the business. It also said that it would not try to monetize games directly, using them instead to drive overall subscription growth and retention. Games will be included at no extra cost in all of Netflix's subscription packages.</p>\n<p>While it may seem like Netflix is arriving late to the gaming arena, there are still at least three reasons to believe the streaming giant could succeed in this new category.</p>\n<h2>1. Netflix has a huge platform</h2>\n<p>Netflix's customer reach alone gives it the opportunity to be a powerhouse in gaming. The company has more than 200 million paying subscribers around the world, and many of its customers spend hours a day on the platform. While Netflix users come to the service to watch TV and movies, the company knows that ultimately its customers are looking for entertainment. Management considers its competition to range from <b>Alphabet</b>'s YouTube to social media platforms like ByteDance's TikTok to video games, in addition to other streaming services and linear TV.</p>\n<p>Additionally, launching mobile gaming makes sense. It won't require any additional hardware; the interactivity is built into the devices; and most Netflix users already have the app loaded onto their devices. According to Apptopia, Netflix was the 10th-most downloaded app in the world in 2020, with 223 million downloads, and it was the only <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> in the top 10 that doesn't provide a free service. It's a good bet that many of the subscribers who come to Netflix for shows and movies would be happy to try out games on the platform as well.</p>\n<p>With a global brand and a giant built-in audience, Netflix should also be a highly appealing partner for game developers. Chief product officer Greg Peters said as much on the Q2 earnings call, arguing that because Netflix wouldn't be concerned with monetization tactics like advertising or in-app purchases, it would be more attractive to developers: \"So we're finding that many game developers really like that concept and that focus and this idea of being able to put all of their creative energy into just great gameplay, and not having to worry about those other considerations that they have typically had to trade off with, just making compelling games.\"</p>\n<h2>2. There's crossover potential with its intellectual property</h2>\n<p>There's no shortage of intellectual property (IP) in Hollywood that has become video games or, in turn, video games that have become movies. Among games that have become hit movies are <i>Mortal Kombat</i>, <i>Tomb Raider</i>, and <i>Sonic the Hedgehog</i>, while there are plenty of success stories in the other direction like <i>Goldeneye 007</i>, <i>Mad Max</i>, and <i>Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis</i>.</p>\n<p>Netflix has historically lacked the kind of monetization machine that <b>Walt Disney</b> has. When Disney makes a hit movie, it lives multiple lives as theme-park rides, toys, and live events like musical theater or Ice Capades -- and as games, which it generally licenses to developers.</p>\n<p>It's easy to imagine some of Netflix's hit shows like <i>Narcos</i>, <i>Ozark</i>, or <i>Stranger Things</i> translating into games. A show like <i>Queen's Gambit</i>, for example, could have easily lent itself to a themed chess game based on the show.</p>\n<p>There's also the potential for Netflix's gaming IP to move in the other direction. If the company launches a hit mobile game, the infrastructure to make those characters into a show or a movie is readily available. Peters acknowledged that this was part of the strategy on the call: \"Part of that will be games that extend our IP. We think that's a really rich, rich space, so that's very much part of our long-term thesis.\"</p>\n<p>Netflix is also planning to do stand-alone games. Overall, the complementarity between games and video entertainment is powerful, especially for a platform with so many paying subscribers.</p>\n<h2>3. Netflix has a great track record</h2>\n<p>Netflix doesn't move into new businesses thoughtlessly. It's rejected calls to get into providing live TV like sports or news, and it has resisted the idea of monetizing its platform through advertising, choosing instead to stick with a simple subscription-only plan.\nNow, Netflix is ready to break that mold. The company said in its second-quarter shareholder letter that it was in the \"early stages of further expanding into gaming,\" and that it views gaming as another content category, like unscripted shows or animation.\nImage source: Netflix.\nManagement said it would begin with mobile gaming, but tamped down expectations on the second-quarter earnings call, saying that it views games as complementary to streaming and that streaming would remain the core of the business. It also said that it would not try to monetize games directly, using them instead to drive overall subscription growth and retention. Games will be included at no extra cost in all of Netflix's subscription packages.\nWhile it may seem like Netflix is arriving late to the gaming arena, there are still at least three reasons to believe the streaming giant could succeed in this new category.\n1. Netflix has a huge platform\nNetflix's customer reach alone gives it the opportunity to be a powerhouse in gaming. The company has more than 200 million paying subscribers around the world, and many of its customers spend hours a day on the platform. While Netflix users come to the service to watch TV and movies, the company knows that ultimately its customers are looking for entertainment. Management considers its competition to range from Alphabet's YouTube to social media platforms like ByteDance's TikTok to video games, in addition to other streaming services and linear TV.\nAdditionally, launching mobile gaming makes sense. It won't require any additional hardware; the interactivity is built into the devices; and most Netflix users already have the app loaded onto their devices. According to Apptopia, Netflix was the 10th-most downloaded app in the world in 2020, with 223 million downloads, and it was the only one in the top 10 that doesn't provide a free service. It's a good bet that many of the subscribers who come to Netflix for shows and movies would be happy to try out games on the platform as well.\nWith a global brand and a giant built-in audience, Netflix should also be a highly appealing partner for game developers. Chief product officer Greg Peters said as much on the Q2 earnings call, arguing that because Netflix wouldn't be concerned with monetization tactics like advertising or in-app purchases, it would be more attractive to developers: \"So we're finding that many game developers really like that concept and that focus and this idea of being able to put all of their creative energy into just great gameplay, and not having to worry about those other considerations that they have typically had to trade off with, just making compelling games.\"\n2. There's crossover potential with its intellectual property\nThere's no shortage of intellectual property (IP) in Hollywood that has become video games or, in turn, video games that have become movies. Among games that have become hit movies are Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Sonic the Hedgehog, while there are plenty of success stories in the other direction like Goldeneye 007, Mad Max, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.\nNetflix has historically lacked the kind of monetization machine that Walt Disney has. When Disney makes a hit movie, it lives multiple lives as theme-park rides, toys, and live events like musical theater or Ice Capades -- and as games, which it generally licenses to developers.\nIt's easy to imagine some of Netflix's hit shows like Narcos, Ozark, or Stranger Things translating into games. A show like Queen's Gambit, for example, could have easily lent itself to a themed chess game based on the show.\nThere's also the potential for Netflix's gaming IP to move in the other direction. If the company launches a hit mobile game, the infrastructure to make those characters into a show or a movie is readily available. Peters acknowledged that this was part of the strategy on the call: \"Part of that will be games that extend our IP. We think that's a really rich, rich space, so that's very much part of our long-term thesis.\"\nNetflix is also planning to do stand-alone games. Overall, the complementarity between games and video entertainment is powerful, especially for a platform with so many paying subscribers.\n3. Netflix has a great track record\nNetflix doesn't move into new businesses thoughtlessly. Over its history, the company has been incredibly disciplined, making two large leaps -- from DVDs to streaming, and then from licensing content to producing original shows and movies. Though its brief attempt to separate the DVD business under the brand Qwikster was a failure, Netflix is not a company that blindly enters new experiments, and it understands its core competencies well.\nCo-CEO Ted Sarandos mostly dismissed the idea of getting into sports again, saying on the call: \"Our fundamental product is on-demand and advertising-free, and sports tends to be live and packed with advertising. So there's not a lot of natural synergies in that way, except for it happens in television.\"\nCo-CEO Reed Hastings also said that video gaming was something the company had discussed for years, and decided on going forward with because it shares a lot of qualities with video entertainment: \"You're going to have these long franchises and very positive for us, kind of industry-structure-wise, if we can master the skill set.\"\nWhile video games aren't a slam dunk for Netflix and will likely take years to come to fruition, the new direction also shows that the streaming champ is looking for new opportunities as its growth rate in streaming slows.\nWith more than 200 million subscribers and one of the best-known brands in entertainment, it would be a mistake to count out Netflix in video games.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":238,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":172488991,"gmtCreate":1626972991513,"gmtModify":1703481750424,"author":{"id":"3566977358597597","authorId":"3566977358597597","name":"x2doubt","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3568222443c539be8d2a37f9e8cbc6b0","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566977358597597","authorIdStr":"3566977358597597"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What else is new","listText":"What else is new","text":"What else is new","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":12,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/172488991","repostId":"1154266565","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1154266565","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626955588,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1154266565?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-22 20:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"How to invest as the Delta variant takes hold","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1154266565","media":"cnn","summary":"New York When the market is plunging like it did last Friday and on Monday, it's tempting to throw in the towel and sell. Don't make these mistakes when the next one hits.","content":"<p>The scary thing about stock market crashes is that they can happen when you least expect them to. And while stock market crashes are normal in that they actually occur somewhat frequently, they can be terrifying for investors who aren't used to them.</p>\n<p>But the decisions you make during a market crash will dictate whether you survive it unscathed, or whether you end up taking serious losses you don't recover from for years. With that in mind, here are three moves you might seriously regret during a stock market downturn.</p>\n<h2>1. Selling when investment values plunge</h2>\n<p>When you buy stocks, you lock in those investments at a certain price. That price can then rise or fall on an ongoing basis.</p>\n<p>If you don't sell your stocks while their value is up, you won't make money. Similarly, if you don't sell your stocks when their values declines, you won't suffer losses. It's the latter you really need to keep in mind during a stock market crash.</p>\n<p>When investment values start to fall, it can very tempting to cash out investments in an effort to minimize the blow. But the stock market has a long history of recovering from crashes, so if you leave your portfolio alone, you'll give your stock values a chance to come back up rather than guarantee yourself losses that could've been easily avoided.</p>\n<h2>2. And while stock market crashes are normal in that they actually occur somewhat frequently, they can be terrifying for investors who aren't used to them.\nBut the decisions you make during a market crash will dictate whether you survive it unscathed, or whether you end up taking serious losses you don't recover from for years. With that in mind, here are three moves you might seriously regret during a stock market downturn.\n1. Selling when investment values plunge\nWhen you buy stocks, you lock in those investments at a certain price. That price can then rise or fall on an ongoing basis.\nIf you don't sell your stocks while their value is up, you won't make money. Similarly, if you don't sell your stocks when their values declines, you won't suffer losses. It's the latter you really need to keep in mind during a stock market crash.\nWhen investment values start to fall, it can very tempting to cash out investments in an effort to minimize the blow. But the stock market has a long history of recovering from crashes, so if you leave your portfolio alone, you'll give your stock values a chance to come back up rather than guarantee yourself losses that could've been easily avoided.\n2. Pausing your retirement plan contributions\nThe point of putting money into a 401(k) or IRA isn't to just let it sit there in cash. Rather, you're supposed to invest it so it grows into a large sum over time.\nYou may be inclined to stop funding your retirement savings during periods when the stock market is doing poorly. But that's a mistake. The money that goes into your retirement plan gets tax-advantaged treatment, whether immediately or in the future, so it pays to keep pumping cash into your account even when the stock market isn't at its strongest.\n3. Not adding discounted stocks to your portfolio\nMany people assume that buying stocks during a market crash is a bad idea. But actually, the opposite is true.\nDuring market downturns, stock values tend to fall across the board. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the companies you're interested in are actually worth less money than they were the month prior. It just means that temporarily, their share prices are down. That gives you a prime opportunity to buy quality stocks when they're less expensive.\nFor example, if you're interested in a given company whose share prices has been hovering around $50, during a market crash, it might fall to $40. Does that mean that from now on, shares will only be worth 40? Not at all. But if you scoop them up at $40 apiece, you'll set yourself up to profit big time when their values creeps back up to $50 or beyond.\nKnowing how to navigate a stock market crash could prevent you from making poor decisions that hurt you financially. Avoid the above mistakes the next time the market takes a turn for the worse -- you'll be much better off for it in the long run.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":341,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179804211,"gmtCreate":1626499174833,"gmtModify":1703761196661,"author":{"id":"3566977358597597","authorId":"3566977358597597","name":"x2doubt","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3568222443c539be8d2a37f9e8cbc6b0","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566977358597597","authorIdStr":"3566977358597597"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a data eased concerns over prospects for rising rates.</p><p>U.S. job growth unexpectedly slowed in April, likely restrained by shortages of workers, the Labor Department report showed.</p><p>The report alleviated some concerns about rising inflation and potentially higher U.S. interest rates, which some investors worry would hurt growth companies with high valuations.</p><p>“Growth names that were taken to the woodshed are getting another chance, because they will be perceived to be less risky in an environment where there is a slower recovery, and that’s really what the jobs data is Energy and materials SPLRCM both hit fresh highs.</p><p>The Dow .DJI rose 229.23 points, or 0.66%, to 34,777.76, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 30.98 points, or 0.74%, to 4,232.6 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 119.40 points, or 0.88%, to 13,752.24.</p><p>For the week, the Dow rose 2.7%, its biggest weekly percentage gain since March. The S&P 500 gained 1.2%, its best week since mid-April, while the Nasdaq shed 1.5%.</p><p>“The anticipation and confirmation of (Federal Reserve) policy staying the same and continued economic recovery with vaccines rollout have fueled these all-time highs, but we do believe the volatility is going to be tightened in the short term,” said Greg Bassuk, chief executive at Axs Investments.</p><p>A raft of upbeat earnings also helped stocks, and S&P 500 earnings are now estimated to have increased 50.4% in the first quarter from a year ago, which would be the highest growth rate since the first quarter of 2010, according to Refinitiv data.</p><p>Payments firm <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SQ\">Square</a> Inc SQ.N rose 4.2% after reporting a better-than-expected quarterly profit, as surging demand for bitcoin fueled a jump in cryptocurrency transactions on its application. Energy and materials SPLRCM both hit fresh highs. The Dow .DJI rose 229.23 points, or 0.66%, to 34,777.76, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 30.98 points, or 0.74%, to 4,232.6 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 119.40 points, or 0.88%, to 13,752.24.For the week, the Dow rose 2.7%, its biggest weekly percentage gain since March. The S&P 500 gained 1.2%, its best week since mid-April, while the Nasdaq shed 1.5%.“The anticipation and confirmation of (Federal Reserve) policy staying the same and continued economic recovery with vaccines rollout have fueled these all-time highs, but we do believe the volatility is going to be tightened in the short term,” said Greg Bassuk, chief executive at Axs Investments.A raft of upbeat earnings also helped stocks, and S&P 500 earnings are now estimated to have increased 50.4% in the first quarter from a year ago, which would be the highest growth rate since the first quarter of 2010, according to Refinitiv data.Payments firm Square Inc SQ.N rose 4.2% after reporting a better-than-expected quarterly profit, as surging demand for bitcoin fueled a jump in cryptocurrency transactions on its application. However, he would be the first to tell you that winners don't win<i>all</i>of the time. They have their ups and downs.</p>\n<p>Case in point: Cathie Wood certainly qualifies as a winner. Her ARK Invest exchange-traded funds have ranked among the best-performing ETFs in recent years. Not every stock in those funds has delivered a great return so far in 2021, though.</p>\n<p>Several of the ARK Invest CEO's favorites are actually down year to date. Don't count all of those recent underperformers out just yet, though. These three are among Wood's biggest losers of 2021, and all should still be huge winners over the long run.</p>\n<p>Teladoc Health</p>\n<p><b>Teladoc Health</b>(NYSE:TDOC)shares have fallen more than 15% year to date, and that's weighing on several of Wood's ETFs. Teladoc is the top holding in the<b>ARK Genomic Revolution ETF</b>, the second-largest position in the<b>ARK Innovation ETF</b>, and the fifth-largest holding in the<b>ARK Next Generation Internet ETF</b>.</p>\n<p>It appears that many investors are focusing only on the negatives for Teladoc. For example,in its Q1 update, the company reported a huge net loss and said that U.S. paid membership in the quarter slipped to 51.5 million from 51.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2020.</p>\n<p>However, that's only part of the story. Teladoc's total visits and utilization rate continue to climb. And much of that big loss was related to the company's acquisitions of Livongo and InTouch Health, deals that are already helping drive its revenue growth.</p>\n<p>My view is that Teladoc's downturn will be temporary. The long-term opportunities for the company in virtual care remain exceptionally strong.</p>\n<p>Unity Software</p>\n<p><b>Unity Software</b>(NYSE:U)has been an especially poor performer for Wood this year -- the stock has plunged more than 30%. The gaming platform leader ranks No. 10 among the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF's holdings and No. 12 for the ARK Innovation ETF.</p>\n<p>The main knock against Unity is its slowing growth rate. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the company reported a 39% year-over-year revenue increase. However, that was weaker than its full-year revenue growth rate of 43%. Even more concerning, Unity provided a full-year revenue guidance range for 2021 anticipating growth of 24% at the midpoint.</p>\n<p>I don't think investors should be worried, though. For one thing, the pandemic boosted Unity's growth in 2020. It's not surprising that growth would slow somewhat after such an exceptional year. The company also anticipates taking a one-time hit to revenue in 2021 as advertisers adjust to<b>Apple</b>'s new IDFA user identification method.</p>\n<p>Unity still expects to generate annual revenue growth of at least 30% over the long term. Wood clearly remains a fan of the stock -- her ARK Innovation ETFscooped up more sharesrecently. I think that her optimism in this case is spot on.</p>\n<p>Vertex Pharmaceuticals</p>\n<p><b>Vertex Pharmaceuticals</b>(NASDAQ:VRTX)hasn't been quite as big of a problem for Wood in 2021 as Teladoc and Unity. However, thebiotech stockhas fallen more than 10% year to date. It's the seventh-largest position for the ARK Genomic Revolution ETF.</p>\n<p>Wall Street analysts weren't happy with the Q4 results Vertex reported in February. Although the company narrowly beat revenue expectations, its adjusted earnings came in below analysts' estimates. Vertex also provided guidance for 2021 that anticipated slowing growth.</p>\n<p>However, Vertex still has a big market opportunity ahead for its newest cystic fibrosis treatment, Trikafta/Kaftrio, in Europe. The triple-drug combination quickly became a blockbuster in the U.S. after winning approval. However, its growth curve in Europe will take more time because Vertex has to negotiate reimbursement deals with the healthcare regulators in each individual country.</p>\n<p>I fully expect Vertex will achieve tremendous success outside of the cystic fibrosis market over the next few years. However, he would be the first to tell you that winners don't winallof the time. They have their ups and downs.\nCase in point: Cathie Wood certainly qualifies as a winner. Her ARK Invest exchange-traded funds have ranked among the best-performing ETFs in recent years. Not every stock in those funds has delivered a great return so far in 2021, though.\nSeveral of the ARK Invest CEO's favorites are actually down year to date. Don't count all of those recent underperformers out just yet, though. These three are among Wood's biggest losers of 2021, and all should still be huge winners over the long run.\nTeladoc Health\nTeladoc Health(NYSE:TDOC)shares have fallen more than 15% year to date, and that's weighing on several of Wood's ETFs. Teladoc is the top holding in theARK Genomic Revolution ETF, the second-largest position in theARK Innovation ETF, and the fifth-largest holding in theARK Next Generation Internet ETF.\nIt appears that many investors are focusing only on the negatives for Teladoc. For example,in its Q1 update, the company reported a huge net loss and said that U.S. paid membership in the quarter slipped to 51.5 million from 51.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2020.\nHowever, that's only part of the story. Teladoc's total visits and utilization rate continue to climb. And much of that big loss was related to the company's acquisitions of Livongo and InTouch Health, deals that are already helping drive its revenue growth.\nMy view is that Teladoc's downturn will be temporary. The long-term opportunities for the company in virtual care remain exceptionally strong.\nUnity Software\nUnity Software(NYSE:U)has been an especially poor performer for Wood this year -- the stock has plunged more than 30%. The gaming platform leader ranks No. 10 among the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF's holdings and No. 12 for the ARK Innovation ETF.\nThe main knock against Unity is its slowing growth rate. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the company reported a 39% year-over-year revenue increase. However, that was weaker than its full-year revenue growth rate of 43%. Even more concerning, Unity provided a full-year revenue guidance range for 2021 anticipating growth of 24% at the midpoint.\nI don't think investors should be worried, though. For one thing, the pandemic boosted Unity's growth in 2020. It's not surprising that growth would slow somewhat after such an exceptional year. The company also anticipates taking a one-time hit to revenue in 2021 as advertisers adjust toApple's new IDFA user identification method.\nUnity still expects to generate annual revenue growth of at least 30% over the long term. Wood clearly remains a fan of the stock -- her ARK Innovation ETFscooped up more sharesrecently. I think that her optimism in this case is spot on.\nVertex Pharmaceuticals\nVertex Pharmaceuticals(NASDAQ:VRTX)hasn't been quite as big of a problem for Wood in 2021 as Teladoc and Unity. However, thebiotech stockhas fallen more than 10% year to date. It's the seventh-largest position for the ARK Genomic Revolution ETF.\nWall Street analysts weren't happy with the Q4 results Vertex reported in February. Although the company narrowly beat revenue expectations, its adjusted earnings came in below analysts' estimates. Vertex also provided guidance for 2021 that anticipated slowing growth.\nHowever, Vertex still has a big market opportunity ahead for its newest cystic fibrosis treatment, Trikafta/Kaftrio, in Europe. The triple-drug combination quickly became a blockbuster in the U.S. after winning approval. However, its growth curve in Europe will take more time because Vertex has to negotiate reimbursement deals with the healthcare regulators in each individual country.\nI fully expect Vertex will achieve tremendous success outside of the cystic fibrosis market over the next few years. The big biotech seems really confident about the prospects for its candidate gene-editing therapy CTX001 in treating a pair of rare blood disorders: sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia. It also has other promising pipeline candidates as well as a hefty cash stockpile. Vertex, like Teladoc and Unity, looks like a long-term winner despite its losing ways of late.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":128,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3560673766995251","authorId":"3560673766995251","name":"soechun","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7cde02904a1a357d11bea54215a65153","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3560673766995251","authorIdStr":"3560673766995251"},"content":"reply mine plis","text":"reply mine plis","html":"reply mine plis"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":108167693,"gmtCreate":1620005757212,"gmtModify":1704337220790,"author":{"id":"3566977358597597","authorId":"3566977358597597","name":"x2doubt","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3568222443c539be8d2a37f9e8cbc6b0","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566977358597597","authorIdStr":"3566977358597597"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PLTR\">$PLTR 20210514 21.5 PUT(PLTR)$</a>discount","listText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PLTR\">$PLTR 20210514 21.5 PUT(PLTR)$</a>discount","text":"$PLTR 20210514 21.5 PUT(PLTR)$discount","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7824445db67700c0e1521c877342c187","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/108167693","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":155,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3582501322615775","authorId":"3582501322615775","name":"Smith1991","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fc65462656134d969f0d9ffc868e4c57","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3582501322615775","authorIdStr":"3582501322615775"},"content":"who are you?","text":"who are you?","html":"who are you?"}],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":113887586,"gmtCreate":1622603671245,"gmtModify":1704187174665,"author":{"id":"3566977358597597","authorId":"3566977358597597","name":"x2doubt","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3568222443c539be8d2a37f9e8cbc6b0","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566977358597597","authorIdStr":"3566977358597597"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ARKX\">$ARK Space Exploration & Innovation ETF(ARKX)$</a>rockets. Financials and energy posted the biggest sectoral loss on S&P 500, down by 0.81% and 3.33%, respectively.</p>\n<p>“It’s end of the quarter and investors may want to take some profits and rotate out of energy and stick with tech,” said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA Research in New York.</p>\n<p>Stovall expects stocks should continue their near-term climb as investors await the new earnings season, in which year-over-year earnings growth of S&P 500 companies is expected to top 60%.</p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 150.57 points, or 0.44%, to close at 34,283.27. The S&P 500 pared earlier losses and advanced from Friday’s record high by gaining 9.91 points, or 0.23%, to 4,290.61. The Nasdaq Composite added 140.12 points, or 0.98%, to 14,500.51.</p>\n<p>Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq hit a series of record highs last week. the tech-heavy Nasdaq’s 5% gain in June is outpacing its peers as investors pile back in to tech-oriented growth stocks on diminishing worries about runaway inflation.</p>\n<p>“We believe with the Fed putting a realistic goal post, investors now have much more of a risk-on mentality going into the second half of the year. Four Ways To Protect Your Stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2135069756","media":"Investors","summary":"The scare of inflation is threatening the S&P 500. But if you know what to expect, signs of rising prices aren't always kryptonite to your portfolio.","content":"<p>The scare of inflation is threatening the S&P 500. But if you know what to expect, signs of rising prices aren't always kryptonite to your portfolio. And that's if you should worry at all.</p>\n<p>It turns out S&P 500 sectors follow a fairly predictable playbook in times of rising prices. If you're worried about inflation, S&P 500 sectors like energy, materials and real estate provide some safety, analysts say. \"Investors have used the threat of a spike in inflation, and now the confirmation from ... surprise strength in headline and core Consumer Price Index readings, to take profits in stocks,\" said Sam Stovall, strategist at CFRA.</p>\n<p>But knowing the facts goes a long way in dealing with any potential market shocks, including inflation.</p>\n<h3>Know The Reality In Inflation Numbers</h3>\n<p>It's important to understand what inflation numbers are truly telling you before you panic. It seems like many S&P 500 investors calmed down after digging into inflation numbers more closely. The world's most popular index jumped more than 1.2% Thursday, making up the bulk of Wednesday's 2% freak-out sell-off.</p>\n<p>At first glance, inflation numbers looked scary. The 4.2% jump in headline inflation and 3% rise in core inflation was much more than anyone thought. Core inflation hasn't jumped that fast on a year-over-year basis since 2008, Stovall says.</p>\n<p>But a big piece of the rise is due to the 21% jump in annualized used vehicle prices, says Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research. And that jump is due to new vehicle shortages arising from a shortage in semiconductors. Backing out this short-term disruption, headline inflation was a much more normal 3.6%, he says. Meanwhile, the unusual 49.6% jump in April gasoline prices added to the distortion.</p>\n<p>The inflation number \"just doesn't hold up to scrutiny as a warning bell about inflation,\" Colas said.</p>\n<h3>Understand How The S&P 500 Reacts To Inflation</h3>\n<p>Out-of-control inflation is widely feared. But times of lingering 5%-plus annual inflation are rare. Only twice since 1928 has U.S. inflation lingered: 1941 through 1951 and 1969 to 1982, Colas found.</p>\n<p>Were these periods devastating for the S&P 500? Hardly. The S&P 500 jumped 310% from 1941 to 1951, that's 121.1% adjusted for inflation, Colas found. Even in the 1969-to-1982 period, seen as a terrible time for inflation, the S&P 500 actually rose 176%. Yes, that's a loss of 11.6% adjusted for inflation, but it's hardly catastrophic especially for those who enjoyed the 1980s bull.</p>\n<p>Inflation itself doesn't steer the S&P 500. The reason for inflation matters more. Prices rose in the 1940s for \"good reasons\" like an post-war boom, Colas said. But in the 1970s, energy price hikes were largely a tax on the economy.</p>\n<p>\"Markets are volatile because they're not sure which sort of inflation we have at present, or what (if anything) the Federal Reserve may do to bring inflation down,\" Colas said. \"That's enough uncertainty to create the volatility we're seeing, but not enough to say equities will necessarily underperform inflation in the years to come.\"</p>\n<h3>Look To The 1970s For S&P 500 Clues (But Not Gospel)</h3>\n<p>S&P 500 investors like to look back at the 1970s for a playbook for inflation. And it wasn't pretty, but it's not as devastating as many think either. And there were actually places to make big gains.</p>\n<p>During the 1970s, the S&P 500 posted an average monthly loss of 0.3%, Stovall says. But over the entire period, the S&P 500 rose 17.2%. That's just 1.6% annualized, or a fraction of the S&P 500's typical 10% yearly return. S&P sectors, though, hold clues or how markets can shift, Stovall says.</p>\n<p>It turns out even during the \"bad\" inflation of the 1970s, only <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the 11 S&P 500 sectors fell on an average monthly basis. That sole loser was financials, which lost 0.8% monthly on average during the 1970s.</p>\n<p>So where where the places to be? S&P 50 energy, materials and real estate all posted average monthly gains of 1% or higher during the 1970s, Stovall says. Materials company <b>Nucor</b> gained 2,830% during the 1970s. That's more than any current S&P 500 members did at the time. Meanwhile, energy firms <b>Schlumberger</b> and <b>Baker Hughes</b> jumped 1,032% and 856%, respectively, during the 1970s.</p>\n<table>\n <thead>\n <tr>\n <th>Sector</th>\n <th>Average monthly return during the 1970s</th>\n </tr>\n </thead>\n <tbody>\n <tr>\n <td>Energy</td>\n <td>1.6%</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Materials</td>\n <td>1.4</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Real Estate</td>\n <td>1.2</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Communications Services</td>\n <td>0.9</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Information Technology</td>\n <td>0.7</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Industrials</td>\n <td>0.6</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Consumer Discretionary</td>\n <td>0.3</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Utilities</td>\n <td>0.1</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Health Care</td>\n <td>0.1</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Consumer Staples</td>\n <td>0</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Financials</td>\n <td>-0.8</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>S&P 500</td>\n <td>-0.3</td>\n </tr>\n </tbody>\n</table>\n<h5>Source: CFRA</h5>\n<h3>Don't Overlook S&P 500 Commodity Strength</h3>\n<p>Digging deeper still, Stovall found robust gains in many commodities markets, even in the inflation-plagued 1970s.</p>\n<p>Gold and precious metals companies in the S&P 500 posted average monthly gains of 3.9% in the 1970s. And aluminum companies rose 2% monthly followed by oil and gas drilling at 1.8%. And to some degree, investors are already nibbling on these areas. The Energy Select Sector SPDR is up 36.7% this year. That's the top run of any S&P 500 sector. Meanwhile, the Materials Select Sector SPDR is up 20% year to date.</p>\n<p>Know, too, simply owning the S&P 500 may not offer great exposure to areas that held up to inflation before. These sectors hold small weights in the S&P 500. Energy holds just a 2.9% weight in the S&P 500. Meanwhile, materials account for 2.9% and real estate 2.5%. ETFs can fill in the gaps.</p>\n<p>ETFs and exchange-traded notes, too, can offer inflation protection. The $60 billion in assets SPDR Gold Trust moves with the price of gold.
