who work for Wall Street brokerage firms, you would most likely say \"tech.\" And you would be right. In fact, only <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> company among the S&amp;P 500 has majority \"sell\" ratings: <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/LUMN\">Lumen Technologies</a> Inc. (LUMN), the former CenturyLink, which is rated a \"sell\" or the equivalent by seven of 16 analysts polled by FactSet. \n</p>\n<p>\n  The table, above, compares the current ratings breakdown with those from the end of June 2020 (after the S&amp;P 500 had recovered from the worst of its pandemic decline) and the pre-pandemic ratings at the end of 2019. You can see that for the six sectors with majority current \"buy\" ratings, enthusiasm has increased since 2019 for all except real estate. The materials sector has had the greatest improvement in sentiment, but the improvements have been significant for the IT, industrial, health care and financial sectors as well. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Sentiment is higher even though the index's forward price-to-earnings ratio has increased to 21.5 from 18.4 at the end of 2019. Unprecedented federal stimulus, the excitement of a new period for economic growth, the increase in the money supply springing from the Federal Reserve's bond purchases, and negative long-term interest rates in Europe and Japan have all made the U.S. stock market an attractive home for investors' cash. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Favorite stocks in favored sectors \n</p>\n<p>\n  Wall Street analysts set 12-month price targets. One year isn't necessarily a long enough period for a serious, committed investor looking to gain as a company compounds earnings and cash flow. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Some companies with high percentages of \"buy\" ratings have share prices that are close to the price targets. One might call those \"fully valued.\" Then again, the 12-month price target may be too short for you. This is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of many reasons why it is important to do your own research and form your own opinion about a company's ability to remain competitive for the next decade at least, before buying individual stocks for long-term investments. \n</p>\n<p>\n  The following are lists for the six favored sectors of the S&amp;P 500. For each sector, the top five companies, by percentage of analysts rating the shares a \"buy\" or the equivalent, are listed. Or six in the event of a tie. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Information technology sector \n</p>\n<p>\n  Here are the six stocks in the S&amp;P 500 information technology sector with the highest percentages of \"buy\" or equivalent ratings among analysts polled by FactSet: \n</p>\n<p>\n  Microsoft Corp. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSFT\">$(MSFT)$</a> has the highest percentage of \"buy\" ratings in the tech sector, and the analysts see 16% upside for the shares over the next year. \n</p>\n<p>\n  The listed stock with the most upside potential over the next year, according to the analysts, is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NOW\">ServiceNow</a> Inc. (NOW), which gets the \"buy\" nod from 91% of analysts. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Next is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/V\">Visa</a> Inc. (V), with 87% \"buy\" or equivalent ratings. Its card payment-processing rival Mastercard Inc. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MA\">$(MA)$</a> is rated a \"buy\" by 84% of analysts, so it just missed the list. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Nvidia Corp. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NVDA\">$(NVDA)$</a> is the highest-rated semiconductor manufacturer on the list. The next-highest-rated chip maker in the S&amp;P 500 is Analog Devices Inc. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ADI\">$(ADI)$</a>, with 83% \"buy\" ratings. \n</p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> Holdings Inc. (PYPL) is tied with Fiserv Inc. with 85% \"buy\" ratings. The authors of both studies said other immune responses may be compensating. In <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> study, published on Wednesday, researchers experimented with blood from people who had received the J&amp;J vaccine two months earlier. Compared to their levels of neutralizing antibodies against the virus that was circulating early in the pandemic, levels of neutralizing antibodies against variants first identified in the UK, South Africa, Brazil and California were about three-fold lower. However, the researchers observed other \"robust\" immune activity and cells whose responses against the variants were undiminished. In clinical trials, the researchers noted, the J&amp;J vaccine protected against symptomatic COVID-19 in South Africa and in Brazil, where most cases were caused by the variants. ( )</p><p>   Children with COVID-19 may be as contagious as adults</p><p>   In a community-based study of COVID-19 patients who were not hospitalized, U.S. researchers found that children and adults with symptoms had similar viral loads, which suggests children can be just as contagious as grownups. \"There has been a lot of debate around school openings and about whether children could transmit the virus and we thought this study could help answer some of these questions,\" said Dr. Helen Chu of the University of Washington, who coauthored a report published on Friday in JAMA Pediatrics. Her team looked at 123 children and 432 adults with COVID-19 and found that nearly all of the adults had symptoms, compared to about two-thirds of the children. \"Overall, people with symptoms had higher virus levels than people without symptoms,\" Chu said. \"However, when you looked within these groups - those with symptoms or those without - viral load was the same whether you were a child or an adult.\" She noted that swab tests were only done once, so researchers cannot be sure they took place when patients' viral loads were highest. But overall, she said, children in the community with SARS-CoV-2 infection can have virus levels similar to adults and can transmit it to others. ( )</p><p>    Oral booster vaccine shows promise in animal tests</p><p>   An experimental \"booster\" vaccine against COVID-19 that is taken by mouth has yielded promising early results in studies in rats, Israeli researchers said. The oral vaccine, MigVax-101, targets multiple sites on the coronavirus. Along with the spike protein on the surface of the virus, which is the target of currently available vaccines, the oral vaccine also targets two sites on the virus shell, which encapsulates its genetic material. In laboratory experiments, rats that had received two doses of vaccines that targeted the spike protein were given the oral booster. \"These rats developed a much higher level of antibodies for neutralizing the disease than did control group rats that received a placebo or a third injection of the (original) vaccine,\" said David Zigdon of MIGAL Galilee Research Institute Ltd, who coauthored a report posted on Wednesday on bioRxiv ahead of peer review. If it is proven safe for humans,  an oral vaccine might trigger strong immune responses in the mucosal surfaces of the mouth and upper respiratory tract, which would in turn help block viral entry, the researchers speculated. A decision will come next week, Anvisa said.</p><p>   The vaccines are the first batch of Janssen's single shot that Brazil hopes to receive to speed up its slow vaccination program. The country is facing the third-deadliest coronavirus outbreak outside of the United States.</p><p>   Brazil signed a deal with Janssen to receive 38 million doses for delivery in the last quarter of this year, but Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga announced on Thursday that a first batch would arrive earlier. Both companies went public last year, and both executives received giant stock bonuses at the time of their initial public offerings. \n</p>\n<p>\n  In short, the corporate governance structures Chesky and Xu set up made them billionaires and gave them significant control over their companies for the foreseeable future, and shareholder watchdogs are sounding the alarm. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Xu holds more than 70% of the voting power in DoorDash because of the delivery platform provider's dual-class share structure and an agreement with co-founders Andy Fang and Stanley Tang that gives him voting authority over their shares. In addition, shareholders are set to vote on a mega-grant to Xu that could value IPO stock grants worth $413 million at more than $1 billion, Glass Lewis pointed out. That $413 million award made Xu the highest-paid CEO in the Bay Area in 2020, according to the San Francisco Business Times . \n</p>\n<p>\n  Similarly, Glass Lewis noted that lodging-booking platform Airbnb's $120 million stock grant to Chesky skyrocketed to a potential value of $1.67 billion after the company's IPO. \n</p>\n<p>\n  \"The quantum of this award warrants scrutiny, and shareholders should note that the company's stock price has exceeded expectations,\" Glass Lewis said in a \"controversy alert\" Thursday. ISS said in its proxy research report about Airbnb: \"The CEO's large front-loaded equity award intended to cover a 10-year period raises significant concerns.\" \n</p>\n<p>\n  Read: Netflix investors 'losing patience,' say company ignores them on governance  \n</p>\n<p>\n  Glass Lewis also mentioned that Airbnb \"has clearly disclosed that this grant is intended to be Mr. Chesky's sole form of incentive compensation for the 10-year term of the award, in addition to a $1.00 base salary.\" But it also said shareholders should \"closely monitor\" pay arrangements going forward. \n</p>\n<p>\n  In its proxy research report about DoorDash, ISS further said it opposes the election of all directors who voted for provisions that give the company's shareholders little power. But because the company has a classified board structure, only Xu is up for re-election. Therefore, ISS recommends a no vote against him. \n</p>\n<p>\n  A vote against Xu is \"warranted given the board's failure to remove, or subjectto a reasonable sunset requirement, the dual-class capital structure and the classified board structure, each of which adversely impacts shareholder rights,\" ISS said in its report. Both companies went public last year, and both executives received giant stock bonuses at the time of their initial public offerings. \n</p>\n<p>\n  In short, the corporate governance structures Chesky and Xu set up made them billionaires and gave them significant control over their companies for the foreseeable future, and shareholder watchdogs are sounding the alarm. \n</p>\n<p>\n  Xu holds more than 70% of the voting power in DoorDash because of the delivery platform provider's dual-class share structure and an agreement with co-founders Andy Fang and Stanley Tang that gives him voting authority over their shares. In addition, shareholders are set to vote on a mega-grant to Xu that could value IPO stock grants worth $413 million at more than $1 billion, Glass Lewis pointed out.
