Jeremy Owens explains this complicated competition scenario .
\n
Key dynamics
\n
Nvidia's fiscal 2021 ended Jan. 31. Here are some of the most important numbers that professional investors keep an eye on for the company and its rivals.
\n
Sales growth
\n
The company breaks down its sales in two ways -- first, by reportable segment:
\n
(COMPANY FILING)
\n
Here's the sales breakdown by market platform:
\n
COMPANY FILING.
\n
With such incredible sales growth, it is probably not a surprise that Nvidia's stock has outperformed benchmarks -- it's up 17% this year and soared 122% in 2020. Nvidia topped $5 billion in quarterly sales for the first time in the last quarter. In the three-month period before that -- August through October 2020 -- the company surpassed $4 billion in sales for the first time.
\n
Pricing power and profitability
\n
Here are year-over-year comparisons of sales growth, gross margins and operating margins for Nvidia and five other large semiconductor industry players held by the iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF $(SOXX)$. The ETF holds shares of 30 semiconductor manufacturers, designers and equipment makers. Each company has a unique mix of business lines. This means a direct comparison may not be meaningful.
\n
(FACTSET)
\n
The list includes AMD and INTC, which compete directly with Nvidia in some areas, but also Broadcom Inc. $(AVGO)$, Texas Instruments Inc. $(TXN)$ and Qualcomm Inc. $(QCOM)$ to round out the group that competes to make chips for various industries and platforms, including mobile devices and telecommunications.
\n
A company's gross margin is its sales, less the cost of goods sold, divided by sales. It is a measure of pricing power. An expanding gross margin with growing sales is a good sign. If the gross margin is contracting, it could mean a company is being forced to increase use of discounting to stave off competition. Comparing only two periods may not be especially meaningful, but it is important to understand if there is a trend.
\n
A company's operating margin is its earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation divided by net sales. It can be considered \"return on sales.\"
\n
Nvidia's gross margin narrowed during its fiscal fourth quarter. But its operating margin widened. The margin numbers were impressive for Broadcom, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm, while Intel's numbers on the chart were weak across the board.
\n
Free cash flow
\n
Many professional investors believe that valuation measures that are related to companies' cash flows are more useful than traditional measures tied to profits, sales or book value. This is, in part, because intellectual property is so important in a service economy.
\n
A company's free cash flow $(FCF)$ yield can be calculated by dividing its trailing 12 months' FCF by the current share price.
\n
Here's a comparison of the six companies' changes in free cash flow per share for the past 12 reported months from the year-earlier 12-month period, along with trailing 12-month free cash flow yields, based on closing share prices April 23:
\n
(FACTSET)
\n
Companies' free cash flow can vary significantly, and a rapidly expanding company may not have a high FCF yield as it continually reinvests in its business. But the numbers can still be useful. For investors looking for value plays, Intel might be compelling with such a high FCF yield, provided you are also confident in CEO Patrick Gelsinger's plans to turn the company around.
\n
Stock valuation and performance
\n
Here are price-to-earnings (P/E) valuations for the six stocks, based on consensus earnings estimates for the next 12 months among analysts polled by FactSet, along with total return figures through April 23:
\n
(FACTSET)
\n
Nvidia is the 10-year total-return champion in this group, but AMD takes the prizes for five years and three years. Nvidia has the highest forward P/E valuation, a bit ahead of AMD. These are high valuations when compared to aggregate forward P/E ratios of 22.4 for the S&P 500 and 30.6 for the Nasdaq-100 index. In the past week, it has turned into a flood, helping to push the price of Bitcoin to a record of $48,297 on Thursday.

The most buzzworthy move came from Tesla (ticker: TSLA), which disclosed on Monday that it hasbought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcointo hold on its balance sheet. The company plans to let consumers use the currency to pay for cars.

But Tesla isn’t the only one. On Thursday, BNY Mellon (BK), the oldest bank in the U.S.,said it will hold and transfer cryptocurrencies for customers. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.

Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. The payments will be converted to traditional money before it enters the companies’ systems.Twitter(TWTR) is also considering a Bitcoin investment. And Square (SQ) has already put some on its balance sheet, as well as given users of its Cash App access to buy the cryptocurrency.

Why is this happening now? Cryptocurrencies are still not particularly useful outside of a very few cases, such as cross-border transactions. Even there, they haven’t fully taken hold.

There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.

One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.

Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.

Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.

Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.

Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.

And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.

A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.

A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. So-called stablecoins, whose value is meant to track fiat currencies, could allow for faster transactions for some kinds of financial services, for instance.Visa(V) andMasterCardseem like the last places in the world that Bitcoin would take hold given that Bitcoin was created to eliminate the middlemen in finance. Few companies fill the role of middleman as perfectly as the credit-card processors. Visa, however, thinks that cryptocurrencies are useful for many other purposes, and its trusted brand makes it an important player, according to Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto at the company.“We’ve seen growing demand from clients across the world that want to be able to plug in and use these networks, but they want a global, neutral, trusted brand, to help them be able to do that,” Sheffield said in an interview. Visa said last week it has created software that allows bank customers to buy and hold cryptocurrencies through lenders’ websites. Will old-line financial companies be the biggest beneficiaries of the crypto “revolution”? Michael Venuto, the chief investment officer of Toroso Investments, doesn’t think it will be easy for them to dominate this new world. Toroso created theAmplify Transformational Data SharingETF (ticker: BLOK), which invests in public companies involved in the technology behind Bitcoin.“In terms of the self-referenced paradox of the old economy accepting the blockchain, it is simply inevitable,” Venuto wrote in an email toBarron’s. “If they don’t explore the blockchain they will be extinct. Many investors believe the spending boost will lead to higher inflation and interest rates, which would reduce the value of equity duration and increase the importance of near-term growth,” Kostin said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":386591719,"gmtCreate":1613195989431,"gmtModify":1704879388794,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$thats great","listText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$thats great","text":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$thats great","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a98cd6130087e23ab8c5a5b8385616b0","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/386591719","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":342,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199931385,"gmtCreate":1620660984647,"gmtModify":1704346392927,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh no","listText":"Oh no","text":"Oh no","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/199931385","repostId":"2134630976","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":315,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":104445114,"gmtCreate":1620408866038,"gmtModify":1704343362271,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/104445114","repostId":"1174046479","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":418,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":354303781,"gmtCreate":1617126379243,"gmtModify":1704696235429,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Way to go","listText":"Way to go","text":"Way to go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/354303781","repostId":"1189684251","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1189684251","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617117951,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1189684251?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-30 23:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Analysts get bullish on Facebook and Twitter, but trader warns of one headwind coming to a ‘boiling point’","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1189684251","media":"cnbc","summary":"Social stocks are in the spotlight.\nDeutsche Bank boosted itsFacebookprice target to a Street high o","content":"
\n
Social stocks are in the spotlight.\nDeutsche Bank boosted itsFacebookprice target to a Street high on Monday, highlighting tail winds in the advertising space, while Truist analysts upgradedTwitterto ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The CEOs of Facebook, Google and Twittertestified in front of Congress last week at a hearing on misinformation. Platforms have been criticized for not holding themselves' accountable for their content, especially false information, and for whether they either suppress or promote different voices.\nGina Sanchez, CEO of Chantico Global and chief market strategist at Lido Advisors, said Capitol Hill's next move should be a very real concern for investors in these stocks.\n\"The question really comes around how Congress decides to act on this question of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and that can potentially change the business model,\" Sanchez told CNBC's \"Trading Nation\" on Monday.\nWhile issues of regulation for big tech companies has been present for many years, Sanchez said it has emerged as more of an immediate threat for social stocks.\n\"Congress today is probably even more invigorated because both sides of the aisle have something to be angry about. … You have both conservatives and liberals who both feel that they've been in some ways harmed by the actions of the company. That's just not a good outlook, and I think that this is coming to a boiling point, probably in the next year or two,\" said Sanchez.\nAri Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer, is more constructive on the stocks.\n\"We do see opportunity and I think in general the industry, because it has been so soft in recent months, it's made it attractive versus the rest of the market that's really run up a bit. I think there is some rotation potential here,\" Wald said during the same segment.\nFacebook, for example, looks to have potential for some upside. The stock is the second-best performer among the FAANG stocks so far this year behindAlphabet– its 6% gain is better than the declines forAmazon,AppleandNetflix.\n“It more or less has been range-bound over the last six months and it’s created a symmetrical triangle pattern,” said Wald. “The stock is now breaking through this consolidation pattern to the upside. Here are the levels to know – there’s support at $270, that’s the prior breakout point. As long as that holds, we see upside to $310. That would be the height of the prior range measured from the breakout point.”\nFacebook traded at $290 on Tuesday.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":336,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":366898737,"gmtCreate":1614427324429,"gmtModify":1704771749517,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$ouch","listText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$ouch","text":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$ouch","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/430334f0441e41d80509151e2ae3b477","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/366898737","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":36,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":382051667,"gmtCreate":1613314280859,"gmtModify":1704879870779,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bitcoin is the future","listText":"Bitcoin is the future","text":"Bitcoin is the future","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/382051667","repostId":"1179092967","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179092967","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1613100617,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1179092967?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-12 11:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Not Just Tesla: Why Big Companies are Buying into Crypto-Mania","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179092967","media":"barrons","summary":"For months, there has beena consistent trickle of newsabout mainstream businesses getting involved in cryptocurrencies.

That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. So-called stablecoins, whose value is meant to track fiat currencies, could allow for faster transactions for some kinds of financial services, for instance.

Visa(V) andMasterCardseem like the last places in the world that Bitcoin would take hold given that Bitcoin was created to eliminate the middlemen in finance. Few companies fill the role of middleman as perfectly as the credit-card processors. Visa, however, thinks that cryptocurrencies are useful for many other purposes, and its trusted brand makes it an important player, according to Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto at the company.

“We’ve seen growing demand from clients across the world that want to be able to plug in and use these networks, but they want a global, neutral, trusted brand, to help them be able to do that,” Sheffield said in an interview.

Toroso created theAmplify Transformational Data SharingETF (ticker: BLOK), which invests in public companies involved in the technology behind Bitcoin.

“In terms of the self-referenced paradox of the old economy accepting the blockchain, it is simply inevitable,” Venuto wrote in an email toBarron’s. “If they don’t explore the blockchain they will be extinct. They understand that, but they are not aware of how big the changes will be or how fast they will happen. They have to evolve, but evolution can be messy.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":57,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":386598872,"gmtCreate":1613196080996,"gmtModify":1704879389614,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sceptical about this","listText":"Sceptical about this","text":"Sceptical about this","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/386598872","repostId":"2110026963","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2110026963","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1613109422,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2110026963?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-12 13:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here's the formula for spotting genuinely undervalued companies, claims this investment house","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2110026963","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"The growth stock vs. value stock dichotomy doesn't make sense, says ValuAnalysis. And for Baidu, it marks a further effort to diversify its business well beyond advertising.\nBaidu’s Nasdaq-traded shares jumped more than 3.5% after hours. They climbed 6.67% on Tuesday.\nBaidu’s chip company would be a subsidiary, with the search giant likely to be the majority shareholder, the person said. Venture capital firms GGV and IDG Capital are involved in early stage discussions to invest in Baidu’s chip firm, the source added. Both firms have extensive investments in China.\nBaidu declined to comment when contacted by CNBC. IDG Capital was not immediately available for comment.Calls to GGV’s offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing went unanswered.\nCurrently, Baidu has an in-house chip unit that has helped to develop its Kunlun semiconductors, designed to process huge amounts of data for artificial intelligence applications. But a standalone chip company is seen helping Baidu to better commercialize its technology, the source said.\nThe semiconductor business would aim to sell chips to customers in several industries including automakers, which are currently facing a global chip shortage.\nA standalone chip maker could also tie into other parts of Baidu’s businesses, such as its driverless car software.\nDiversification flurry\nBaidu’s move is part of push by the company to diversify its broader business — an effort which since September alone has seen the Chinese technology giant raise money for a biotech firm and a standalone electric vehicle company.\nAdvertising accounts for most of Baidu’s revenue currently, but other operations are contributing a growing percentage of sales. Ad-related revenue, which the company refers to in its earnings statements as online marketing services, accounted for around 80% of total revenue in 2018. That proportion fell to 71% in the third quarter of 2020, the most recent published results.\nBaidu’s semiconductor focus comes as the Chinese government tries to boost domestic independence around that critical technology — a trend that has accelerated during China’s trade war with the United States.\nChinese internet giant Tencent, the owner of messaging app WeChat, recently invested in an AI chip start-up.\nIn 2019, e-commerce company Alibaba launched its first chip to power artificial intelligence processes.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":322389629,"gmtCreate":1615773762561,"gmtModify":1704786286968,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$come on","listText":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$come on","text":"$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK)$come on","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/30f0dc0be5681eba056f9b661e0b879a","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/322389629","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":37,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":363603441,"gmtCreate":1614130261483,"gmtModify":1704888465818,"author":{"id":"3569217106840767","authorId":"3569217106840767","name":"porean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6ccda21c50c2666479d4d6b5978a5cde","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569217106840767","authorIdStr":"3569217106840767"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Alot of uncertainty in the market right now ","listText":"Alot of uncertainty in the market right now ","text":"Alot of uncertainty in the market right now","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/363603441","repostId":"1198320495","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198320495","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1614087585,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1198320495?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-23 21:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The market is getting nervous about Powell’s testimony this week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198320495","media":"cnbc","summary":"Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks twice to Congress this week as part of mandated semiannual testimony.Normally nonevents for the market, the central bank leader’s comments will be viewed closely this week for how he views this year’s run-up in bond yields.Investors worry that too quick of a rise might force the Fed to tighten policy too quickly, while a complacent Fed also would pose overheating risks.Rising bond yields and accompanying inflation fears are adding a level of drama to","content":"
\n
KEY POINTSFederal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks twice to Congress this week as part of mandated semiannual testimony.Normally nonevents for the market, the central bank leader’s comments will ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; He’s really caught between a rock and a hard place.”What’s got the market’s attention recently has been a pickup in government bond yields, particularly further out on the curve. While the 2-year is unchanged for 2021, the 5-year has risen nearly a quarter percentage point as of Friday’s market close while the benchmark 10-year note has seen its yield jump 41 basis points to 1.34%, an area where it hasn’t been since around the same time in 2020, before the worst of the pandemic struck. The 30-year bond yield has surged even more, leaping nearly half a point this year to 2.14%.Powell’s dilemma is this: Rising bond yields could be signaling the reflation of the economy that the Fed has been pushing and are therefore higher for good reasons. However, should the trend get out of control, the Fed then might have to tighten policy faster than the market expects, offsetting some of the good that has come with the burst in yields.Complicating the matter is that markets also might not like it if Powell is overly complacent.“If this testimony was behind closed doors, I think Jay Powell would be quite pleased with what he sees in the economy and the markets,” Sheets said, using the Fed chair’s nickname. “But given that it’s public, he’s got to be careful. If he’s too sanguine about the rise in rates, the markets are going to take that as a significant green light for rates to rip higher.”“The Fed is comfortable with an organic rise in rates reflecting shifts in views on growth and inflation,” he added. “But I think the Fed also wants to be careful that it doesn’t create and amplify a self-sustaining dynamic that pushes rates higher for other reasons.”Those “other reasons” primarily would be fears that the economy could overheat.Stimulus and more stimulusThe Fed has run historically loose policy for the past year, dropping its benchmark borrowing rate to near zero and buying at least $120 billion of bonds each month. That’s on top of a series of since-expired lending and liquidity programs implemented in the early days of the Covid-19 crisis.Along with that, Congress has come in with more than $3 trillion of fiscal stimulus and could approve up to $1.9 trillion more by the end of week. All that has transpired amid an economy that, besides a still-troubling employment problem primarily in the service sector, is humming. Wall Street is taking up first-quarter growth expectations and market-based indicators of inflation are rising. That’s why Powell’s tightrope walk this week will be all the more compelling.“The market mood has changed,”Mohamed El-Erian, chief economic advisor at Allianz, said Monday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” It’s no longer whether yields are going higher, it’s when is the move too big. That’s what the market’s trying to figure out.”Investors are particularly concerned whether all the stimulus isn’t going overboard and threatening to destabilize the economy over the longer run.“I can predict that the yellow lights are flashing all over the Fed because of the [yields] move and the steepening of the yield curve, and the Fed may do more to try to control yields,” El-Erian said.Fed officials have largely dismissed so-called yield curve control to use its bond purchasing power to control rates between various fixed income maturities. But the market could force the Fed’s hand, and Powell is likely to get asked about where he stands on what tools the Fed has to calm market issues. He has repeatedly stressed that the central bank has the weapons to control inflation, but deploying those comes with a price. Markets used to low yields and companies accustomed to cheap borrowing costs could get rattled by an unexpected Fed move.Evidence of how clearly the market is watching the issue came Monday morning, when European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said she is “closely monitoring the evolution of longer-term nominal bond yields.” Her words were enough to calm a jittery market and turn what had been an opening loss on Wall Street into a mixed market with the Dow up in early afternoon trading. Treasury yields were mostly flat on the day.Tom Lee, managing partner and head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, noted that his “clients have already expressed some apprehension about this week. ValuAnalysis uses price as a multiple of normalized net free cash flow as its benchmark, and identifies the imaginary dividing line between value and growth stocks at 35x, which is the market median.
\n
The value vs. growth divide would suggest that a company trading at a 17x earnings multiple is undervalued. In reality, ValuAnalysis says it is likely a company that won't grow.
\n
In reality, a stock's value is based on the company's ability to grow free cash flow in an environment where the cost of capital is 5% to 6%. So if a company isn't outpacing that by improving revenue and margins, the multiple won't increase and the stock price is unlikely to rise.
\n
Stocks that are actually undervalued will trade between 25x and 35x free cash flow, Costantini says, outpacing the cost of capital but not breaking past the market median.
\n
To have potential, a company's accumulation of assets or revenue growth must outpace increases in global gross domestic product, and ideally show signs of accelerating. There must also be an increase in operational leverage through revenue or margins. A decrease in the risk premium, such as through advances in controlling carbon emissions, helps.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
