Era","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2130747316","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- Perhaps no one, not even the day-trading hero they call Roaring Kitty, is more respon","content":"

(Bloomberg) -- Perhaps no one, not even the day-trading hero they call Roaring Kitty, is more responsible for the improbable 700% rally in GameStop Corp. this year than Ryan Cohen.
\n
At 35 years old, Cohen is a billionaire entrepreneur with a reputation for a Midas touch after building the pet-supply site he co-founded — Chewy — into a booming business. And so when word got out in mid-January that he had secured three seats on GameStop’s board after amassing a 13% stake, shares of the video-game retailer exploded. What had just been something of a run-of-the-mill outperformance in the bull market turned into a parabolic surge overnight.
\n
Amid all the zany theater that has since come to surround the GameStop rally — the emergence of the rowdy Reddit day-trading crowd, the short-sellers’ existential crisis, the congressional hearings — Cohen’s role in the whole saga has been obscured and his name largely forgotten by the broader public. But behind the scenes, he is scrambling to craft a viable turnaround plan for a company that for years had seemed destined to die a slow, anonymous death as gamers abandoned its mall locations and started shopping more and more online.
\n
Cohen’s goal is to push the company rapidly into e-commerce, and according to people familiar with his thinking, he plans to borrow heavily from the model he implemented at Chewy to pull off that transition. Key components include turning GameStop’s abysmal customer service into a five-star experience and aggressively expanding product selection. GameStop, of course, has a major problem that Chewy never did — the financial drag of operating thousands of physical stores — and Cohen is searching for alternative uses for many of the locations he doesn’t opt to shutter. Among the ideas he’s considering is training centers for aspiring esports gamers.
\n
Cohen, who takes over as chairman in June, has brought in several of his old Chewy lieutenants to help execute his plan, including the mastermind of the customer-service program, Kelli Durkin. And GameStop has managed to pay off its debt ahead of schedule, relieving pressure on its finances and buying Cohen some time.
\n
For all those true believers — and speculative opportunists — who drove GameStop’s market value up from a few hundred million dollars to over $10 billion in a span of weeks, the question is whether Cohen and his Chewy model will be enough to fix GameStop or whether its problems run too deep to be solved.
\n
“Making a pivot into online retailing is very difficult,” said David Cole, an analyst at DFC Intelligence. “However, someone like Cohen — with an aggressive push — is what is needed to have any chance of success.”
\n
Cohen has embraced the mischievous spirit of Elon Musk as he pursues a GameStop comeback. Like Tesla Inc.’s prankster-king, he posts goofy and sometimes mysterious images on social media (a poop emoji over a picture of a Blockbuster store or the stuffed bear from the movie “Ted” using a bong). That’s helped him win over the Reddit crowd, which turned GameStop into a so-called meme stock — a ticker that trades more on social-media buzz than fundamentals. Someone even edited his Wikipedia page recently to give him the title “Jesus 2.0.”
\n
But now Cohen has to deliver. The company is seeking a new chief executive officer, with the goal of going head-to-head with Amazon.com Inc. and other e-commerce sites. And Cohen looks to forge new partnerships with video-game publishers and tech giants, potentially increasing the number of services GameStop can offer online.
\n
Cohen, who was born in Montreal, never went to college. He has credited much of his success building Chewy to his father, who ran a glassware business and died in 2019. In person, Cohen has a soft-spoken demeanor, revealing little of his shrewd business instincts and ability to drive bargains with suppliers, former colleagues say.
\n
Since joining the board in January, Cohen has orchestrated a management overhaul of the Grapevine, Texas-based company. That’s included removing Chief Financial Officer Jim Bell and appointing new executives like a chief technology officer. Replacing CEO George Sherman will complete the reshuffling. GameStop said last week that its board was looking for a candidate who can “accelerate the next phase of the company’s transformation.” Sherman is slated to leave before the end of July.
\n
But that still leaves the question of how Cohen is going to turn a massive chain of physical stores — nearly 5,000 at the end of last year — into a sleek online operation.
\n
Part of that involves closing locations, especially poor-performing ones, a process that began well before Cohen came on the scene. Sherman, a veteran of retailers such as Advance Auto Parts Inc. and Best Buy Co., has shuttered hundreds of GameStop stores since he took the helm in April 2019 — a process the company calls “de-densification.”
\n
Fortunately, GameStop isn’t locked into many long-term leases. The majority of them expire within the next two years, giving the company flexibility to walk away from poor-performing locations.
\n
Still, GameStop can’t shrink its way into prosperity. The hope is to actually sell a bigger range of products, but do more of it online, while efficiently using the stores that remain.
\n
Cohen also looks to tap the culture and ideas cultivated by Chewy, which he sold to PetSmart and a British private-equity firm in 2017 for $3.35 billion. Exceptional customer service is one of them. Wide product selection is another.
\n
There also are parallels between pet owners and gamers that Cohen can draw on. Their purchases aren’t merely transactional. Both sets of customers tend to be deeply emotionally invested in what they buy. And there’s a strong element of community around pets and video games. Customers tend to treat employees as experts, helping them select the right pet food or game.
\n
When Cohen took a board seat in January, he brought along Alan Attal and Jim Grube as fellow directors. Attal, a longtime friend and business partner, helped found Chewy and oversaw operations and marketing. Grube worked on Chewy’s customer-acquisition model, which paved the way for its rapid growth. In February, GameStop hired Durkin — who built Chewy’s praised customer-service division — as vice president of customer care.
\n
Durkin, who had never been inside a call center before she was hired as Chewy’s employee No. 4, built customer care into a 3,000-person division with a few ground rules:
All calls should be answered within six seconds by a live person, based in the U.S. Representatives can stay on the phone as long as the customer wants to chat. The company provides no-questions-asked returns or exchanges. Pet parents would get a swath of freebies and gifts, like hand-painted portraits of their animals and handwritten cards on their birthdays.\n
For now, at least, GameStop isn’t at that level. When a Bloomberg reporter recently called GameStop’s customer service line, an automated voice spelled out instructions for 40 seconds and promised that the call would be answered within 15 minutes. After 39 minutes, the phone was picked up by a representative who said she was in the Philippines.
\n
At Chewy, Cohen avoided the typical corporate procedures, including large meetings and memos, telling employees instead to embrace a just-get-it-done mentality. It was a strategy that worked well for a closely held startup free from the constraints and scrutiny of publicly traded companies like GameStop.
\n
That doesn’t mean Cohen was aloof or took success for granted. He operated the business with “deep paranoia,” said Larry Cheng, a managing partner at Volition Capital, which was Chewy’s first outside investor.
\n
“It made him very detail-centered and very knowledgeable about the business,” said Cheng, who has been nominated to GameStop’s board.
\n
But selling video games is different from pet supplies in a key way, said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities.
\n
“I think he is a visionary about selling physical products that cannot be downloaded (dog food, pet supplies, pet medicine),” he said in an email, “but don’t see how that experience is applicable in a setting where the core product sold can easily be downloaded.”
\n
Still, unlike many aging retail brands, the GameStop name resonates with its core shoppers, said DFC Intelligence’s Cole. And gamers often want products right away, rather than waiting for them to be shipped. If GameStop can offer more inventory online with in-store pickup, it could have an edge over Amazon, he said.
\n
“The stock speculation aside, there is a great deal of potential for GameStop,” Cole said. “Someone like Cohen may be able to help unlock that.”
\n
For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.com
\n
Subscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source.
\n
©2021 Bloomberg L.P.

","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And so when word got out in mid-January that he had secured three seats on GameStop’s board after amassing a 13% stake, shares of the video-game retailer exploded. What had just been something of a run-of-the-mill outperformance in the bull market turned into a parabolic surge overnight.\nAmid all the zany theater that has since come to surround the GameStop rally — the emergence of the rowdy Reddit day-trading crowd, the short-sellers’ existential crisis, the congressional hearings — Cohen’s role in the whole saga has been obscured and his name largely forgotten by the broader public. But behind the scenes, he is scrambling to craft a viable turnaround plan for a company that for years had seemed destined to die a slow, anonymous death as gamers abandoned its mall locations and started shopping more and more online.\nCohen’s goal is to push the company rapidly into e-commerce, and according to people familiar with his thinking, he plans to borrow heavily from the model he implemented at Chewy to pull off that transition. Among the ideas he’s considering is training centers for aspiring esports gamers.\nCohen, who takes over as chairman in June, has brought in several of his old Chewy lieutenants to help execute his plan, including the mastermind of the customer-service program, Kelli Durkin. And GameStop has managed to pay off its debt ahead of schedule, relieving pressure on its finances and buying Cohen some time.\nFor all those true believers — and speculative opportunists — who drove GameStop’s market value up from a few hundred million dollars to over $10 billion in a span of weeks, the question is whether Cohen and his Chewy model will be enough to fix GameStop or whether its problems run too deep to be solved.\n“Making a pivot into online retailing is very difficult,” said David Cole, an analyst at DFC Intelligence. “However, someone like Cohen — with an aggressive push — is what is needed to have any chance of success.”\nCohen has embraced the mischievous spirit of Elon Musk as he pursues a GameStop comeback. Someone even edited his Wikipedia page recently to give him the title “Jesus 2.0.”\nBut now Cohen has to deliver. The company is seeking a new chief executive officer, with the goal of going head-to-head with Amazon.com Inc. and other e-commerce sites. And Cohen looks to forge new partnerships with video-game publishers and tech giants, potentially increasing the number of services GameStop can offer online.\nCohen, who was born in Montreal, never went to college. He has credited much of his success building Chewy to his father, who ran a glassware business and died in 2019. In person, Cohen has a soft-spoken demeanor, revealing little of his shrewd business instincts and ability to drive bargains with suppliers, former colleagues say.\nSince joining the board in January, Cohen has orchestrated a management overhaul of the Grapevine, Texas-based company. That’s included removing Chief Financial Officer Jim Bell and appointing new executives like a chief technology officer. Replacing CEO George Sherman will complete the reshuffling. GameStop said last week that its board was looking for a candidate who can “accelerate the next phase of the company’s transformation.” Sherman is slated to leave before the end of July.\nBut that still leaves the question of how Cohen is going to turn a massive chain of physical stores — nearly 5,000 at the end of last year — into a sleek online operation.\nPart of that involves closing locations, especially poor-performing ones, a process that began well before Cohen came on the scene. Sherman, a veteran of retailers such as Advance Auto Parts Inc. and Best Buy Co., has shuttered hundreds of GameStop stores since he took the helm in April 2019 — a process the company calls “de-densification.”\nFortunately, GameStop isn’t locked into many long-term leases. The majority of them expire within the next two years, giving the company flexibility to walk away from poor-performing locations.\nStill, GameStop can’t shrink its way into prosperity. The hope is to actually sell a bigger range of products, but do more of it online, while efficiently using the stores that remain.\nCohen also looks to tap the culture and ideas cultivated by Chewy, which he sold to PetSmart and a British private-equity firm in 2017 for $3.35 billion. Exceptional customer service is one of them. Wide product selection is another.\nThere also are parallels between pet owners and gamers that Cohen can draw on. Their purchases aren’t merely transactional. Both sets of customers tend to be deeply emotionally invested in what they buy. And there’s a strong element of community around pets and video games. Customers tend to treat employees as experts, helping them select the right pet food or game.\nWhen Cohen took a board seat in January, he brought along Alan Attal and Jim Grube as fellow directors. Attal, a longtime friend and business partner, helped found Chewy and oversaw operations and marketing. Grube worked on Chewy’s customer-acquisition model, which paved the way for its rapid growth. In February, GameStop hired Durkin — who built Chewy’s praised customer-service division — as vice president of customer care.\nDurkin, who had never been inside a call center before she was hired as Chewy’s employee No. 4, built customer care into a 3,000-person division with a few ground rules: All calls should be answered within six seconds by a live person, based in the U.S. Representatives can stay on the phone as long as the customer wants to chat. The company provides no-questions-asked returns or exchanges. Pet parents would get a swath of freebies and gifts, like hand-painted portraits of their animals and handwritten cards on their birthdays.\nFor now, at least, GameStop isn’t at that level. When a Bloomberg reporter recently called GameStop’s customer service line, an automated voice spelled out instructions for 40 seconds and promised that the call would be answered within 15 minutes. After 39 minutes, the phone was picked up by a representative who said she was in the Philippines.\nAt Chewy, Cohen avoided the typical corporate procedures, including large meetings and memos, telling employees instead to embrace a just-get-it-done mentality. It was a strategy that worked well for a closely held startup free from the constraints and scrutiny of publicly traded companies like GameStop.\nThat doesn’t mean Cohen was aloof or took success for granted. He operated the business with “deep paranoia,” said Larry Cheng, a managing partner at Volition Capital, which was Chewy’s first outside investor.\n“It made him very detail-centered and very knowledgeable about the business,” said Cheng, who has been nominated to GameStop’s board.\nBut selling video games is different from pet supplies in a key way, said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities.\n“I think he is a visionary about selling physical products that cannot be downloaded (dog food, pet supplies, pet medicine),” he said in an email, “but don’t see how that experience is applicable in a setting where the core product sold can easily be downloaded.”\nStill, unlike many aging retail brands, the GameStop name resonates with its core shoppers, said DFC Intelligence’s Cole. And gamers often want products right away, rather than waiting for them to be shipped. If GameStop can offer more inventory online with in-store pickup, it could have an edge over Amazon, he said.\n“The stock speculation aside, there is a great deal of potential for GameStop,” Cole said. “Someone like Cohen may be able to help unlock that.”\nFor more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.com\nSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news Check.
\n
Only rarely does one see stories about risk or valuation regarding Amazon stock.
\n
A 430% stock return over the last 5 years may make investors happy or excited, but as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) indicates in most investment-related documents, “past performance does not guarantee future results.”
\n
With that in mind, here are six reasons the future for AMZN stock might not be as glamorous.
\n
Amazon Stock: Growth Slowdown
\n
The law of large numbers will inevitably affect Amazon’s revenue growth rate. Analyst estimates for revenues this year are $474 billion. Can you image the efforts it takes to sell half a trillion dollars in goods and services, and not only repeat that every year, but increase it by 20% as investors expect?
\n
Amazon got a one-time revenue boost from the coronavirus pandemic. Of course this won’t repeat this year, as analyst expect revenue growth to decline somewhere in the low 20% range. After that, I project a sub-20% growth rate for the foreseeable future.
\n
Capital Intensive Business
\n
Amazon has been spending many billions on its infrastructure build-out for many years. But is the $40.1 billion spent in 2020 indicative of future capital expenditure needs?
\n
Analysts seem to think so. At least the ones who have pegged capex at $38 billion in 2021 and $39 billion in 2022. That may provide $25-$30 billion in free cash flow. That seems like a large number on the surface, but in the context of Amazon’s $1.6 trillion market cap, it’s a drop in the bucket. It also provides a return similar to a 10-year Treasury bond.
\n
With high inflation likely coming down the road, that free cash flow may be shrinking.
\n
Government Intervention Threats
\n
This issue will probably never go away. It’s just a fact of life when corporations get too big and powerful. Federal and State governments have been looking into Amazon (and other FAANG stocks) regarding issues such as antitrust enforcement, election interference, free speech, hate speech, worker conditions, low federal income tax payments and others.
\n
Critics have run the gamut from diverse political characters such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump to name a few. The Federal Trade Commission(FTC) is even looking into Amazon Prime Video in conjunction with other streaming companies.
\n
Bernie Sanders has been on a campaign to improve worker conditions in Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren wants to turn it into a “platform utility.” Former President Donald Trump has claimed the company gets favorable deals from the U.S. Postal Service, which hurts them financially.
\n
Whatever the issue, these likely won’t be going away anytime soon.
\n
Unionization Efforts
\n
In the small Alabama town of Bessemer (pop. 26,680),Amazon faces its largest union organization threat in the company’s history. Employees at a large warehouse located there are voting this month to unionize, an effort which has garnered nationwide attention.
\n
They are not seeking higher wages or benefits as most Amazon employees are paid well above industry averages. They’re also offered comprehensive benefits, and there is plenty of opportunity for career advancement. What they want is better working conditions. Many employees and unions object to the often strenuous physical demands of the job.
\n
The fears for the company, and subsequently for Amazon stock investors as well, is that the well-oiled machine that allows one-day or two-day delivery through Amazon Prime will be disrupted. If unionization occurs across the company’s vast network of infrastructure in the U.S., Amazon’s entire retail business model would likely take a sizable hit.
\n
Wal-Mart Growing Faster
\n
Although the Walmart(NYSE:WMT) e-commerce business is less than 1/5ththe size of Amazon’s retail business, it grew 69% in the fourth quarter. Compare that to the estimated 40.6% for Amazon. This disparity in growth has been occurring for quite some time.
\n
Keep in mind, e-commerce, or online sales are only about 21% of total retail sales in the U.S. This often shocking statistic is slightly misleading as retail sales include auto sales with their high price point and very few people buy their cars fully online.
\n
Based on Walmart’s approach to online sales as an omni-channel provider — meaning they can leverage physical stores to increase e-commerce efforts — this growth disparity between the two companies is likely to occur for the foreseeable future.
\n
AMZN Stock’s Valuation Looks Stretched
\n
Amazon stock has almost always been expensive. I recall the Wall Street Journal saying 2 years ago that the stock “trades at 36 times all the money it has ever earned in its 22 years as a public company.”
\n
Currently, the stock trades at 65 times 2021 estimated earnings per share and 46 times 2022 estimated EPS. Some say the 40% EPS growth may justify those multiples. However, stocks aren’t valued on 1 or 2 years of growth statistics. A stock is worth the sum of all cash flow that will be generated in the future.
\n
On that basis, by using a Discounted Cash Flow calculation, Amazon stock looks to be about 35% over-valued.
\n
If we assume double-digit revenue growth until the company hits $1 trillion in revenues and margins remain relatively stable due to competition in both of company’s core segments, the valuation comes out to approximately $2,250. The massive capital expenditures need in both of these business segments will not go away for the foreseeable future.
\n
If History Is Any Guide
\n
Based on the past 100 years of retailing in the U.S. in which very few retailers, if any, remain on top forever — it’s unlikely Amazon will be the future of retail. The question is what would replace it? Well, if history is any guide, the answer is “something else.”
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
6 Reasons Why Amazon’s Glory Days Are Likely Behind It
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n6 Reasons Why Amazon’s Glory Days Are Likely Behind It\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-22 21:08 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Amazon's fantastic growth and dominance in e-commerce and cloud computing may be coming to an end\nAbout everything that can be written about Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) stock has been written in various ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMZN":"亚马逊"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/03/6-reasons-amazon-stock-glory-days-likely-behind-it/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1119632895","content_text":"Amazon's fantastic growth and dominance in e-commerce and cloud computing may be coming to an end\nAbout everything that can be written about Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) stock has been written in various investment and business publications over the past 10 or 20 years. 首先,拼多多將永遠是一個把消費者利益和社會價值放在首位的公司。我們所踐行的“造福大衆”、“以人爲本”、“更加開放”的理念,將會得到業界和社會各界更加明確的認可。拼多多作爲一個服務於大衆的平臺","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/97b4d691570108b188c4576c95f7b7f8","width":"1795","height":"743"}],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":2,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/324816690","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":167,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":322501912,"gmtCreate":1615814943536,"gmtModify":1704786923181,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"This It's added $1 billion in high-interest debt to its balance sheet with total corporate borrowings now clocking in at $5.7 billion, but there's a bigger concern for investors here, and its already bloated debt burden helps explain it.
\n
\n
Massive share dilution
\n
AMC finished 2019 with 103 million shares. By the end of the third quarter, that share count had only increased modestly to an average of 107.7 million, but it then began to explode.
\n
In September, the company announced an at-the-market equity offering program, essentially allowing it to dilute shareholders by selling new stock when it saw the need to do so. Since then, the company has filed to sell 300 million new shares and added 44.4 million in new shares from a debt conversion.
\n
On the earnings call, CFO Sean Goodman set the record straight, saying that the company had issued 278 million shares through the at-the-market offering. As of March 3, AMC had 450.2 million shares outstanding.
\n
In other words, if you're an AMC shareholder who held from the beginning of 2020 until today, your stake in the company is just 22% of what it was a year ago, as is your share of the company's potential earnings.
\n
AMC's management deserves some credit for raising the cash necessary to keep the business afloat. But shareholders are now in a terrible position, as it's essentially impossible for the company to generate enough profits to offset that dilution, especially as it's paying about $300 million in annual interest expense.
\n
Part of the reason the company had to dilute shareholders rather than raising new debt, which is generally considered to be cheaper than equity, is because it was so highly leveraged coming into the pandemic, and recent debt raises came with 15% interest rates attached.
\n
Management acknowledged as much on the call as Goodman said, \"We will continue to actively explore alternatives to raise additional capital and reduce our leverage.\" That means shareholders should expect the dilution to continue as the company seeks to pay down its borrowings and convert debt to equity.
\n
The pent-up demand question
\n
If there's a bull case for AMC, it's that pent-up demand will drive a surge in profitability once the pandemic ends. On the call, CEO Adam Aron cited a survey of its Stubs members, who reported that going to the movies was the activity they missed the most. However, that's from a group of confirmed movie-lovers willing to pay for a subscription to see as many flicks at AMC as they want.
\n
The level of demand from the broader public is less clear. While audiences will certainly return to theaters, the case for pent-up demand in the industry seems to be less convincing than in other hard-hit sectors like travel and restaurants, which are inherently social and experiential, making them unsafe during COVID-19.
\n
Movies, on the other hand, have a convenient substitute in at-home entertainment, and streaming options have both proliferated and thrived during the pandemic. Studios have gotten comfortable putting new releases directly on their streaming services, effectively eliminating exhibitors like AMC.
\n
While AMC's revenue may return to pre-pandemic levels, whether it will exceed that is still uncertain, especially given the company's financial challenges and the changes in the market.
\n
Still a sell
\n
Despite an awful year for the business, AMC shares are actually up more than 40% from the start of 2020, primarily because of attention from Reddit traders.
\n
Given the extreme and still-ongoing share dilution, heavy debt burden and interest payments, and the fundamental power shift in the entertainment industry away from movie theaters, the company's future still looks bleak. Now looks like a great time for investors to pocket the profits and sell.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
1 Big Red Flag in AMC's Earnings Report
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n1 Big Red Flag in AMC's Earnings Report\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-12 21:54 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) has made it through the darkest days of the pandemic, and it will come out on the other side.\nThe company reaffirmed that in its fourth-quarter earnings report, saying ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMC":"AMC院线"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/12/1-big-red-flag-in-amcs-earnings-report/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2118950919","content_text":"AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) has made it through the darkest days of the pandemic, and it will come out on the other side.\nThe company reaffirmed that in its fourth-quarter earnings report, saying that it was reopening theaters in major markets like New York and Los Angeles, even as it is burning around $100 million in cash every month.\nOptimism about the reopening later this year along with a likely boost from Reddit traders was enough to lift the stock after its earnings report as shares traded up as much as 10% on Thursday morning.\nHowever, the results shed new light on the company's troubled financial situation coming out of the pandemic, as it's been forced to raise billions of dollars during the crisis to stay alive. But shareholders are now in a terrible position, as it's essentially impossible for the company to generate enough profits to offset that dilution, especially as it's paying about $300 million in annual interest expense.\nPart of the reason the company had to dilute shareholders rather than raising new debt, which is generally considered to be cheaper than equity, is because it was so highly leveraged coming into the pandemic, and recent debt raises came with 15% interest rates attached.\nManagement acknowledged as much on the call as Goodman said, \"We will continue to actively explore alternatives to raise additional capital and reduce our leverage.\" That means shareholders should expect the dilution to continue as the company seeks to pay down its borrowings and convert debt to equity.\nThe pent-up demand question\nIf there's a bull case for AMC, it's that pent-up demand will drive a surge in profitability once the pandemic ends. On the call, CEO Adam Aron cited a survey of its Stubs members, who reported that going to the movies was the activity they missed the most. However, that's from a group of confirmed movie-lovers willing to pay for a subscription to see as many flicks at AMC as they want.\nThe level of demand from the broader public is less clear. While audiences will certainly return to theaters, the case for pent-up demand in the industry seems to be less convincing than in other hard-hit sectors like travel and restaurants, which are inherently social and experiential, making them unsafe during COVID-19.\nMovies, on the other hand, have a convenient substitute in at-home entertainment, and streaming options have both proliferated and thrived during the pandemic. Studios have gotten comfortable putting new releases directly on their streaming services, effectively eliminating exhibitors like AMC.\nWhile AMC's revenue may return to pre-pandemic levels, whether it will exceed that is still uncertain, especially given the company's financial challenges and the changes in the market.\nStill a sell\nDespite an awful year for the business, AMC shares are actually up more than 40% from the start of 2020, primarily because of attention from Reddit traders.\nGiven the extreme and still-ongoing share dilution, heavy debt burden and interest payments, and the fundamental power shift in the entertainment industry away from movie theaters, the company's future still looks bleak. Now looks like a great time for investors to pocket the profits and sell.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":99,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":328753356,"gmtCreate":1615561208875,"gmtModify":1704784607383,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Market correction","listText":"Market correction","text":"Market correction","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/328753356","repostId":"1114808605","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1114808605","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1615560227,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1114808605?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-12 22:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Big Tech slip","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1114808605","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Tesla down 3.6%,Apple,Facebook and Netflix down 2%.","content":"
Tesla down 3.6%,Apple,Facebook and Netflix down 2%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; 2000","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1132165819","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"Billionaire investor Ray Dalio — who founded the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates ","content":"
Billionaire investor Ray Dalio — who founded the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates — in a new interview warned that the stock market is a bubble \"halfway\" to the magnitude of those that triggered historic market crashes like the dot-com bust and the Great Depression.
\n
Speaking with Yahoo Finance, he cautioned that some high-performing stocks have benefited from single-minded speculative trading focused on price, and he attributed recent market volatility to a rotation toward \"meat and potatoes\" companies that didn't benefit from pandemic trades as much as some tech firms.
\n
\"What's happened is that — like a lot of cycles go — a lot of new ideas, new technologies, new things come along, and they make fabulous revolutions,\" he says. \"And they grow things — and that's great.\"
\n
\"But there's a tendency of investors to extrapolate the past and not pay too much attention to price, and when that happens you start to emerge as somewhat of a bubble,\" adds Dalio, the co-chairman and co-chief investment officer of Bridgewater Associates, which holds about $150 billion assets under management.
\n
\"By our measures, the bubble is not what it was in 2000 and not what it was in 1929,\" he says. \"But it's kind of like halfway there.\"
\n
Growing fears of a bubble
\n
The warning from Dalio echoes growing concerns among some investors. 拼多多作爲一個服務於大衆的平臺","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/97b4d691570108b188c4576c95f7b7f8","width":"1795","height":"743"}],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":2,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/324816690","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":167,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365198042,"gmtCreate":1614700153186,"gmtModify":1704774278326,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Many words, but it simply means fuboTV is a streaming service that blends live TV and on-demand content. The company offers viewers over 100 channels across sports, news, and entertainment, but at a cheaper price than traditional cable and satellite plans.

According to eMarketer, the percentage of U.S. households with a vMVPD service jumped from 1.6% in September 2017 to 7.8% in September 2020. That means fuboTV has a substantial market opportunity, and it should only get bigger as more viewers cut the cord.

But does this company have what it takes to be a millionaire maker? Let's dive in.

fuboTV's sports-first strategy

Live TV streaming services like Disney's Hulu+ Live TV and Alphabet's YouTube TV are much larger than fuboTV in terms of subscribers, not to mention that both Disney and Alphabet have much deeper pockets. That's more than any other live-TV streaming service. Additionally, fuboTV takes a sports-first approach, offering greater coverage of sporting events than any of its rivals. This includes professional leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and others, as well as college sports. Viewers can also upgrade to subscription packages like Sports Plus for even more content.

Management believes this strategy allows the company to tap into naturally high demand for sports, which should keep fuboTV's customer acquisition costs lower than its rivals. However, the company has also bolstered its news and entertainment offering in recent years. For example, fuboTV inked a deal that brought Disney networks onboard in August. This helps round out the company's offering, making it more appealing to non-sports fans.

In fact, the company phrases its business model in this way: Come for the sports, stay for the entertainment.

fuboTV's playbook

In December 2020, fuboTV acquired Balto Sports as part of its plans to enter the online sports wagering market. Management has previously expressed interest in this idea, citing the natural fit with fuboTV's sports-first streaming service.

Likewise, in January 2021, fuboTV took another step down this path, announcing its intention to acquire sports betting firm Vigtory. The company plans to use Vigtory's sportsbook platform and betting technology to offer subscribers a frictionless betting experience.

Additionally, during a recent interview, CEO David Gandler said that the company \"should be looking at\" striking exclusive deals for live sports events. While this is far from concrete, if fuboTV were able to offer exclusive content to sports fans, that would significantly strengthen its value proposition. Investors should pay attention to this situation closely. In the streaming world, content is king -- and sports content is no exception.

A big market opportunity

According to management, fuboTV's current market opportunity includes the $226 billion global pay-TV market and the $130 billion digital ad market. And if that wasn't enough, the sports wagering market will add another $155 billion to the total market opportunity by 2024.

fuboTV recently upped its fourth-quarter revenue guidance to $94 million to $98 million, representing 77% growth. The company also upped its subscriber count guidance, which is now expected to exceed 545,000 for 2020 -- 72% more subscribers than it had at the end of 2019.

This strong growth has helped fuboTV capture market share in recent years. But investors should keep the big picture in focus: Hulu+ Live TV is still much larger, with 4 million subscribers. Moreover, Hulu+ Live TV and YouTube TV (the top two vMVPDs) are both gaining market share as well.

Market Share

September 2018

September 2019

September 2020

fuboTV

3%

4%

5%

YouTube TV

19%

21%

26%

Hulu+ Live TV

24%

31%

34%

Data source: Antenna.

A final word

So, is fuboTV a millionaire maker? Media reports suggested the departure could be linked to board member Ryan Cohen’s desire to see GameStop accelerate its digital transformation.\nThe stock’s big two-day move puzzled some on Wall Street, and CNBC’s Jim Cramer contended earlier Thursday that a CFO shakeup is unlikely to be a catalyst for such a significant rally. Whatever the cause, the GameStop resurgence calls to mind the Reddit-sparked trading mania that first engulfed the stock in January, when it soared to $483 per share.\n“What happened with GameStop when it went to $480 was one of the dumbest, most nonsensical things that I’ve seen in quite some time. This is the second dumbest,” Loop Capital Markets analyst Anthony Chukumba said Thursday on CNBC’s“Power Lunch.”He recently dropped his GameStop coverage, citing its disconnection from fundamentals.\n“I’m gobsmacked now, just as I was a few weeks ago,” Chukumba added.\nThe late January surge in GameStop put financial pressure on hedge funds and other investors who shorted the stock, which is essentially a bet that it will decrease in price.\nThe saga has in some ways served as a wake-up call for the hedge fund industry,according to Gabe Plotkin, founder of Melvin Capital. Plotkin’s fund got caught on the wrong end of the GameStop trade January.\nGoing forward, Plotkin told Congress earlier this month that he expects funds, including his own, to more closely monitor social media sites now that the power of forums like Reddit’s WallStreetBets have been demonstrated.\n“I think they saw an opportunity to drive the price of a stock higher and today with social media and other memes, there’s the ability to collectively do so,” he said. “That was a risk factor that, up until recently, we had never seen.”\nZhen co-founded Thinknum in 2014,according to his LinkedIn, but the company’s Reddit-specific dataset went live in late January as the GameStop frenzy was unfolding.\nAccording to a blog post on Thinknum’s website, the dataset “tracks the number of times NYSE and NASDAQ tickers are mentioned in the top 100 posts on r/WallStreetBets and r/Stocks in real time.”\nIn Thursday’s CNBC interview, Zhen stressed that Thinknum does not claim for its online datasets to be predictive of stocks poised to rally.\n“We provide a service where investors can track when the number of mentions on Reddit for any particular stock is increasing. We don’t interpret or analyze the data. We don’t claim the stock will go up,” said Zhen, who used to work at a hedge fund.\n“But what we are saying is that there’s a lot of chatter around the stock today ... and if you’re an investor, you need to pay attention,” he said.\nIn addition to the recently launched Reddit offering, Zhen said Thinknum has about 30 other datasets, such as those focused on product pricing and where companies are opening stores. “Reddit is one oversized sample recently but there are many other data trails that good investors pay attention to,” Zhen said.\nThe Securities and Exchange Commission said in January that it was reviewing the GameStop saga. When asked by CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin asked whether Thinknum has been contacted by the SEC, Zhen said: “We have gotten many inquiries from government bodies, which I can’t comment on specifically.”\nThinknum also has seen increased interest from investors and corporations, Zhen said. “The interest has been substantial. It’s the most I’ve seen in six years doing this.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":67,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":244572629582048,"gmtCreate":1700734174762,"gmtModify":1700734178675,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Happy Thanksgiving to all","listText":"Happy Thanksgiving to all","text":"Happy Thanksgiving to all","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/244572629582048","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":145,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9939285519,"gmtCreate":1662116719631,"gmtModify":1676537001517,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes done ","listText":"Yes done ","text":"Yes done","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/6aee1eba241770f780ef01e4a10b7498","width":"720","height":"1102"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9939285519","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":178,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9080889223,"gmtCreate":1649865021914,"gmtModify":1676534593704,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gcdkhgcvv","listText":"Gcdkhgcvv","text":"Gcdkhgcvv","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/e9f1118a9d34916270665e4c9573ded1","width":"1080","height":"1653"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9080889223","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":239,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190794370,"gmtCreate":1620651111890,"gmtModify":1704346110805,"author":{"id":"3569453079799652","authorId":"3569453079799652","name":"JWakari","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216ca6f1195b213ce8e8bf609e647710","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569453079799652","authorIdStr":"3569453079799652"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/190794370","repostId":"2134463462","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
