Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1111156856","media":"TheStreet","summary":"Apple shares rallied through most of April, but they failed to climb on Apple's Spring Loaded day. B","content":"
Apple shares rallied through most of April, but they failed to climb on Apple's Spring Loaded day. Below are three key reasons why the event still matters to Apple stock.
\n
Apple hosted the Spring Loaded event on April 20. The most relevant product upgrade came with the new iPad Pro. Updates on the iMac, services, home and wearable devices were also announced.
\n
Despite the exciting product and service news, Apple stock failed to climb on the day of the event. Looking past the intraday share price behavior, I think that yesterday's announcements were meaningful for the Cupertino company.
\n
I list below three reasons why I believe that Apple bulls should remain encouraged.
\n
#1 - M1 chip shows its value
\n
The M1 chip and other technological advances have allowed Apple to narrow the gap between their more mainstream and their pro products. This helps to explain, for example, the extinction of the Intel-powered iMac Pro.
\n
The new iPad Pro, now equipped with M1 chip, has faster performance and better graphics. Apple is going pedal-to-the-metal in 2021, betting both on single-product innovation and the power of the ecosystem. Much of what has been happening is a result of the new M1 chip and architecture, announced during last year's WWDC event.
\n
From a product development perspective, this is exciting times for Apple.
\n
Figure 1: Apple's M1 chip.
\n
#2 - Product portfolio looks strong
\n
The iPad Pro, the star of Tuesday's show, seems upgraded enough (M1, 5G, ultra wide camera) to make it stand out during a year in which Apple's tablet segment will start facing tough comps in the June quarter.
\n
When it comes to the new iMac, there is no question to its is beauty and power. At a starting price of $1,300, I believe that Apple makes the right moves by introducing a compelling desktop computer that is relatively affordable.
\n
The question is whether the iMac matters enough to investors. I think it does, but only to the extent that the complete ecosystem is important to the investment thesis (see next section). Time will tell if I may be underestimating Apple's new desktop model.
\n
Beyond the intraday stock price behavior that was underwhelming, I think that the announcements of April 20 were good for the Cupertino company. The product portfolio is looking as strong as ever, in my view. Bullishness reinforced.
\n
Figure 2: Apple's new 5G capable iPad Pro, equipped with M1 chip.
\n
#3 - Apple develops its ecosystem
\n
When it comes to the breadth of the product refresh, Apple did not disappoint. In addition to the new iPad Pro and new iMac, we also saw AirTags, Apple TV 4K, updates on Apple Card and Apple Podcast. Not all announcements will amount to much, from the perspective of future financial performance. But they all add to Apple's diverse ecosystem.
\n
Tim Cook opened his presentation with news on services. A quick update on Apple Card Family means that other members of a household can share credit scores and access credit. This can prove to be a significant development, as it adds purchasing power to Apple's consumer base.
\n
Later, updates within the Wearables and Home segment were unveiled, including the Apple TV 4K with A12 Bionic chip. Apple does not break down revenues or profits within the Wearables and Home segment, where Apple TV belongs. Below are three key reasons why the event still matters to Apple stock.\nApple hosted the Spring Loaded event on April 20. The most relevant product upgrade came with the new iPad Pro. Updates on the iMac, services, home and wearable devices were also announced.\nDespite the exciting product and service news, Apple stock failed to climb on the day of the event. Looking past the intraday share price behavior, I think that yesterday's announcements were meaningful for the Cupertino company.\nI list below three reasons why I believe that Apple bulls should remain encouraged.\n#1 - M1 chip shows its value\nThe M1 chip and other technological advances have allowed Apple to narrow the gap between their more mainstream and their pro products. This helps to explain, for example, the extinction of the Intel-powered iMac Pro.\nThe new iPad Pro, now equipped with M1 chip, has faster performance and better graphics. Apple is going pedal-to-the-metal in 2021, betting both on single-product innovation and the power of the ecosystem. Much of what has been happening is a result of the new M1 chip and architecture, announced during last year's WWDC event.\nFrom a product development perspective, this is exciting times for Apple.\nFigure 1: Apple's M1 chip.\n#2 - Product portfolio looks strong\nThe iPad Pro, the star of Tuesday's show, seems upgraded enough (M1, 5G, ultra wide camera) to make it stand out during a year in which Apple's tablet segment will start facing tough comps in the June quarter.\nWhen it comes to the new iMac, there is no question to its is beauty and power. At a starting price of $1,300, I believe that Apple makes the right moves by introducing a compelling desktop computer that is relatively affordable.\nThe question is whether the iMac matters enough to investors. I think it does, but only to the extent that the complete ecosystem is important to the investment thesis (see next section). Time will tell if I may be underestimating Apple's new desktop model.\nBeyond the intraday stock price behavior that was underwhelming, I think that the announcements of April 20 were good for the Cupertino company. The product portfolio is looking as strong as ever, in my view. Bullishness reinforced.\nFigure 2: Apple's new 5G capable iPad Pro, equipped with M1 chip.\n#3 - Apple develops its ecosystem\nWhen it comes to the breadth of the product refresh, Apple did not disappoint. In addition to the new iPad Pro and new iMac, we also saw AirTags, Apple TV 4K, updates on Apple Card and Apple Podcast. Not all announcements will amount to much, from the perspective of future financial performance. But they all add to Apple's diverse ecosystem.\nTim Cook opened his presentation with news on services. A quick update on Apple Card Family means that other members of a household can share credit scores and access credit. This can prove to be a significant development, as it adds purchasing power to Apple's consumer base.\nLater, updates within the Wearables and Home segment were unveiled, including the Apple TV 4K with A12 Bionic chip. Apple does not break down revenues or profits within the Wearables and Home segment, where Apple TV belongs. But I do not believe the product to represent a large chunk of the pie, certainly not compared to the Apple Watch and AirPods.\nOnce again, all updates were not necessarily an eye-catcher for investors, but interesting pieces of the puzzle instead. Apple's ecosystem strength, which is arguably the core of the company's business model, has been boosted.\nFigure 3: Apple's Air Tag.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":114,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":120536107,"gmtCreate":1624327229709,"gmtModify":1703833573998,"author":{"id":"3569638094156050","authorId":"3569638094156050","name":"Estada","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/035b646e17ea259fd1e75b59654ef1ff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569638094156050","authorIdStr":"3569638094156050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Must ask crystal ball","listText":"Must ask crystal ball","text":"Must ask crystal ball","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/120536107","repostId":"1195761455","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1195761455","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624326856,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1195761455?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-22 09:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Amazon Price Predictions: Where Will Amazon Stock Go in 2021?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195761455","media":"investorplace","summary":"Today is the first day of Amazon’s(NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime Day event, a two-day consumer event where you ","content":"
Today is the first day of Amazon’s(NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime Day event, a two-day consumer event where you can shop the e-commerce platform for astoundingly good deals. What organizers called the \"largest incentive prize in history\" will last for four years through Earth Day, 2025.
\n
Carbon capture and storage has drawn growing interest as a warming climate has melted glaciers, intensified tropical storms and resulted in \"sunny day flooding\" of more and more coastal areas. While countries are working to reduce emissions, scientists say carbon removal technology will also be crucial to the goal of getting emissions to net zero by 2050.
\n
Carbon capture projects have already drawn backing from Silicon Valley startups aiming for a technological solution to climate change, public officials worried about the slow pace of cutting emissions, and emitters including oil companies seeking to offset their climate impacts.
\n
The technology is not yet commercially viable. Removing carbon costs more than $300 per metric tonne in a world that each year emits greenhouse gases equivalent to about 50 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide. By 2050, some 10 billion tonnes of carbon capture may be needed, by some estimates.
\n
Musk's $100 million XPRIZE Carbon Removal is aimed at finding a viable solution for taking 1,000 tonnes out of the atmosphere annually, with potential to scale up dramatically.
\n
Musk has built a reputation as an industrialist focused on environmentalism, turning electric car maker Tesla into the world's most valuable vehicle company and expanding into solar power so customers can charge their rides carbon-free.
\n
Contest entrants should \"show a sustainable path to achieving low cost at gigatonne scale,\" organizers XPRIZE has said on its website.
\n
There are plenty of Silicon Valley startups eager to compete. Here's 7 to Consider","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1139859065","media":"Nasdaq","summary":"This year hasn't been quite as kind to electric vehicle (EV) stocks as 2020 was. As a case in point,","content":"
This year hasn't been quite as kind to electric vehicle (EV) stocks as 2020 was. As a case in point, Tesla (TSLA) – the closest thing in this space to an established company – saw its shares rise by 743% last year. But the price is down by about 12% thus far in 2021.

And Tesla certainly isn't the only electric vehicle maker struggling to find its mojo this year. The entire sector has struggled as investors have booked profits and cheaper value stocks have come back into favor.

So, what's the story here? Is the epic run in EV stocks over, or is it merely taking a well-deserved break?

Let's start with some fundamentals.

While electric vehicles aren't exactly a novelty anymore, they're just now hitting their stride. Tesla produced about half a million cars last year and expectations are for even more sales in 2021. And its competitors are also ramping up production. Electrification of the American auto fleet is a priority of the Biden administration, as is seizing global leadership in renewable energy.

\"When it comes to renewable energy, this is not something that happens years in the future. It's happening today,\" says Allister Wilmott, president of ARC Aviation Renewables, a solar-power and LED aviation lighting firm. \"Already, about one in 40 new cars is electric. But that number grows every year, and 20% or more of all new car sales will likely be electric by 2030.\"

The growth is there, and it's happening before our eyes. The question is simply how to best play this trend.

Today, we're going to take a look at seven of the largest and most widely-traded EV stocks. This isn't necessarily a recommendation list – some of these electric vehicle stocks might indeed not be right for you.

Every stock on this list is highly speculative, so you should only purchase them if you have a high tolerance for risk. But if you're looking to play the trend of rising consumer embrace of electric vehicles, these EV stocks are the ones you'd want to consider.

Data is as of June 1.

Tesla

Market value:$601.0 billion

Year-to-date return:-11.6%

For many investors,Tesla(TSLA, $623.90) is synonymous with electric vehicles the same way that \"Coke\" is synonymous with fizzy soft drinks.

There were electric vehicles before Tesla, of course, but no one wanted to drive them. The styling was typically awful and the cars lacked power.

Tesla changed all that. Led by its charismatic CEO Elon Musk, Tesla made electric vehicles cool.

But even after its recent selloff, the EV stock remains wildly expensive. Today, TSLA trades for 19.4 times annual sales. To put that in perspective, Apple (AAPL) – one of the highest-margin hardware makers in history – trades for just 6.6 times sales, and most automakers trade for less than 1 times sales.

Slicing the numbers differently, Tesla might sell something in the ballpark of a million cars this year. At that level and given Tesla's current market cap, investors would be paying over $600,000 for each car sold.

Investors clearly aren't valuing Tesla like a car company, and perhaps they shouldn't. Based on CEO Elon Musk's decision to invest a good chunk of the company's cash hoard in Bitcoin, you could argue Tesla is now a cryptocurrency hedge fund masquerading as an EV producer.

In any event, investors are valuing it like a high-flying tech startup. And perhaps that's reasonable given the company's leadership in battery technology and autonomous driving. But Tesla is expensive even by tech stock standards.

All the same, a similar argument could have been made at virtually any point over the past 13 years and it would have been equally true. Yet TSLA shares are still where they are today.

Nio

Market value:$69.4 billion

Year-to-date return:-13.1%

Nio(NIO, $42.34) is a Chinese electric vehicle maker, which makes it interesting for several reasons.

To start, China has far less of a domestic energy industry to support and still imports most of its fossil fuels. This gives the country far more of an incentive to lower energy imports by pushing electric vehicle ownership.

Furthermore, China's air quality is abysmal in most cities, and moving its car fleet from fossil fuels to electric vehicles would certainly help move the needle on that problem.

Last November, China passed new rules requiring that 40% of all car sales in China be electric vehicles by 2030. That's a big deal, to say the least. And as one of China's electric vehicle champions, NIO stock is a way to play the trend of a greener China.

Again, though, you'll need to be careful here.

Chinese stocks do not have the best reputations for clean accounting, and Nio carries a lot of debt to boot. Its debt-to-equity ratio is a ridiculously high 57. Valuation is unsurprisingly problematic, too. The company isn't profitable, making the calculation of a price/earnings (P/E) ratio impossible, but its price/sales ratio of 15.5 looks reasonable when compared to Tesla's 19.4.

NIO's shares are down by nearly 40% from their 52-week highs and have been trending lower since the start of the year. While NIO may still emerge as a global electric vehicle powerhouse, it's never a good idea to chase a stock lower. You might want to wait for the EV stock's price to reverse course and trend higher for a few weeks before nibbling on this one.

XPeng

Market value:$27.8 billion

Year-to-date return:-19.2%

For another play on the Chinese EV market, consider XPeng(XPEV, $34.60), which trades in the U.S. as an American depositary receipt (ADR). The company is based in Guangzhou and went public last August at the peak of the EV stock frenzy. While the shares are still brand new in the U.S. market, XPEV has been in operation since 2014.

XPeng can be thought of as a Chinese version of Tesla. In addition to making electric vehicles, the company is also developing autonomous driving capabilities and operates a network of charging stations.

XPEV currently operates 1,140 stations spread across 164 Chinese cities. This gives the company a significant competitive advantage in its home market, as it allows it to offer free lifetime charging services to its customers.

Its models are still relatively unknown in the United States, but the company's G3 SUV and P7 sedan are best sellers in China. And significantly, the P7 boasts a 440-mile range on a single charge.

As with the other names on this list, XPeng has struggled this year. The electric vehicle stock is down by about 40% from its January highs and more than half from its 2020 highs, though the shares appear to have found at least a short-term bottom in mid-May.

If you believe in the Chinese EV story, XPeng is worth a good look.

Li Auto

Market value:$21.5 billion

Year-to-date return:-17.4%

And for one last Chinese EV play, consider Li Auto(LI, $23.81). Li was founded in Beijing in 2015 and went public in the U.S. in July of last year.

The company designs and manufactures premium \"smart\" electric SUVs. Its first model available for sale was the Li ONE, a large, six-seat SUV. The company started production in November of 2019, and through December of last year had already delivered 33,500 vehicles.

In 2021, Li has continued that momentum. Monthly sales were up 111% year-over-year in April, following a 239% annual jump in March.

That's a promising start, but like many of the stocks on this list, Li is still an early stage company that has only sold a little over 50,000 vehicles in its entire history.

The Chinese government is backing the rise of electric vehicles, but you still have to consider these companies highly speculative.

Like the other EV stocks on this list, Li has really struggled in 2021, as the shares have ground lower continuously since November of last year. But for what it's worth, the electric vehicle stock reversed course in May, and has been trending higher in recent weeks.

Electrameccanica Vehicles

Market value:$455.2 million

Year-to-date return:-34.9%

If you think an over-indebted, money-losing Chinese carmaker is a speculative play, take a look at Electrameccanica Vehicles(SOLO, $4.03). Electrameccanica is a small Canadian firm with just 119 full-time employees and a market cap of just $455 million.

You're not really buying a company here. You're buying a concept, as the cars are not fully in production yet.

Electrameccanica sells its cars under the Solo, Tofino and eRoadster brands, and let's just say they're a bit different. The Solo, for example, has only one seat and three wheels, making it look more like a go-cart than a passenger vehicle. But if you're looking for minimal environmental impact, Solo is your car.

SOLO went public in 2018, and it has been a rocky ride.

The shares exploded higher last year but have been trending lower since November. It might be best to wait for some indication this EV stock has bottomed out before considering a new position here. This is an early stage company and not yet profitable, so proceed with caution.

Arcimoto

Market value:$348.9 million

Year-to-date return:-26.3%

Arcimoto(FUV, $8.49) gets lumped in with the other electric vehicle makers, but it's not the fairest comparison.

Arcimoto manufactures and sells three-wheeled electric vehicles, including the Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV) it bases its stock ticker symbol on. These bright vehicles might be compact and a little unorthodox, but they're highway-legal and capable of handling everyday purposes such as commuting or running errands. And frankly, they look like fun to drive.

The company also sells the Rapid Responder model for emergency, security and law enforcement services, the Deliverator for goods delivery and the Roadster, which resembles a large motorcycle with two front wheels.

Perhaps the best part of FUV's story is that it's not directly competing with Elon Musk and Tesla, which deal in more traditional car categories. Its products are more appropriate for cruising down a boardwalk or tooling around the neighborhood.

Like most of the rest of the EV stocks on this list, Arcimoto is not yet profitable and should be considered speculative.

FUV shares have struggled in 2021, though they might have hit a bottom in mid-May, with the electric vehicle stock trending slightly higher in recent weeks. We can't know until after the fact whether the shares are on the mend, but the intrepid investor may see this as an opportunity to take at least a small position in the stock.

Fisker

Market value:$4.0 billion

Year-to-date return:-8.5%

Many of the EV stocks on this list have the backing of some of the world's most powerful governments. It would seem thatFisker(FSR, $13.40) has the backing of the Almighty Himself.

Well, not exactly.

But Fisker is indeed developing an all-electric transport for Pope Francis: an EV popemobile. FSR plans to modify its Ocean SUV to include a large, retractable glass cupola for His Holiness.

Building a popemobile isn't exactly a high-volume business. But it's certainly good marketing for Fisker.

FSR is still really risky even by the standards of EV stocks. The company isn't planning to start actual production until late 2022. But, its Ocean prototypes are attractive, and it's also possible the company is acquired by a larger automaker wanting instant access to a high-end electric SUV.

Fisker's shares have been battered this year, but like several other EV stocks, started to show signs of life again in mid-May. EV stocks are highly speculative, and FSR stands out even in this group given the stage of production it is in. So, for any investors wanting to take a stab at this one, they might want to keep their position size modest.
","source":"lsy1603171495471","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Time to Buy the Dip in EV Stocks? And as one of China's electric vehicle champions, NIO stock is a way to play the trend of a greener China.Again, though, you'll need to be careful here.Chinese stocks do not have the best reputations for clean accounting, and Nio carries a lot of debt to boot. Its debt-to-equity ratio is a ridiculously high 57. Valuation is unsurprisingly problematic, too. The company isn't profitable, making the calculation of a price/earnings (P/E) ratio impossible, but its price/sales ratio of 15.5 looks reasonable when compared to Tesla's 19.4.NIO's shares are down by nearly 40% from their 52-week highs and have been trending lower since the start of the year. While NIO may still emerge as a global electric vehicle powerhouse, it's never a good idea to chase a stock lower. You might want to wait for the EV stock's price to reverse course and trend higher for a few weeks before nibbling on this one.XPengMarket value:$27.8 billionYear-to-date return:-19.2%For another play on the Chinese EV market, consider XPeng(XPEV, $34.60), which trades in the U.S. as an American depositary receipt (ADR). The company is based in Guangzhou and went public last August at the peak of the EV stock frenzy. While the shares are still brand new in the U.S. market, XPEV has been in operation since 2014.XPeng can be thought of as a Chinese version of Tesla. In addition to making electric vehicles, the company is also developing autonomous driving capabilities and operates a network of charging stations.XPEV currently operates 1,140 stations spread across 164 Chinese cities. The electric vehicle stock is down by about 40% from its January highs and more than half from its 2020 highs, though the shares appear to have found at least a short-term bottom in mid-May.If you believe in the Chinese EV story, XPeng is worth a good look.Li AutoMarket value:$21.5 billionYear-to-date return:-17.4%And for one last Chinese EV play, consider Li Auto(LI, $23.81). The Chinese government is backing the rise of electric vehicles, but you still have to consider these companies highly speculative.Like the other EV stocks on this list, Li has really struggled in 2021, as the shares have ground lower continuously since November of last year. But for what it's worth, the electric vehicle stock reversed course in May, and has been trending higher in recent weeks.Electrameccanica VehiclesMarket value:$455.2 millionYear-to-date return:-34.9%If you think an over-indebted, money-losing Chinese carmaker is a speculative play, take a look at Electrameccanica Vehicles(SOLO, $4.03). Electrameccanica is a small Canadian firm with just 119 full-time employees and a market cap of just $455 million. You're not really buying a company here. You're buying a concept, as the cars are not fully in production yet.Electrameccanica sells its cars under the Solo, Tofino and eRoadster brands, and let's just say they're a bit different. The Solo, for example, has only one seat and three wheels, making it look more like a go-cart than a passenger vehicle. But if you're looking for minimal environmental impact, Solo is your car.SOLO went public in 2018, and it has been a rocky ride. The shares exploded higher last year but have been trending lower since November. It might be best to wait for some indication this EV stock has bottomed out before considering a new position here. This is an early stage company and not yet profitable, so proceed with caution.ArcimotoMarket value:$348.9 millionYear-to-date return:-26.3%Arcimoto(FUV, $8.49) gets lumped in with the other electric vehicle makers, but it's not the fairest comparison.Arcimoto manufactures and sells three-wheeled electric vehicles, including the Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV) it bases its stock ticker symbol on. These bright vehicles might be compact and a little unorthodox, but they're highway-legal and capable of handling everyday purposes such as commuting or running errands. And frankly, they look like fun to drive. The company also sells the Rapid Responder model for emergency, security and law enforcement services, the Deliverator for goods delivery and the Roadster, which resembles a large motorcycle with two front wheels.Perhaps the best part of FUV's story is that it's not directly competing with Elon Musk and Tesla, which deal in more traditional car categories. Its products are more appropriate for cruising down a boardwalk or tooling around the neighborhood.Like most of the rest of the EV stocks on this list, Arcimoto is not yet profitable and should be considered speculative.FUV shares have struggled in 2021, though they might have hit a bottom in mid-May, with the electric vehicle stock trending slightly higher in recent weeks. We can't know until after the fact whether the shares are on the mend, but the intrepid investor may see this as an opportunity to take at least a small position in the stock.FiskerMarket value:$4.0 billionYear-to-date return:-8.5%Many of the EV stocks on this list have the backing of some of the world's most powerful governments. It would seem thatFisker(FSR, $13.40) has the backing of the Almighty Himself.Well, not exactly. But Fisker is indeed developing an all-electric transport for Pope Francis: an EV popemobile. FSR plans to modify its Ocean SUV to include a large, retractable glass cupola for His Holiness.Building a popemobile isn't exactly a high-volume business. But it's certainly good marketing for Fisker.FSR is still really risky even by the standards of EV stocks. The company isn't planning to start actual production until late 2022. But, its Ocean prototypes are attractive, and it's also possible the company is acquired by a larger automaker wanting instant access to a high-end electric SUV.Fisker's shares have been battered this year, but like several other EV stocks, started to show signs of life again in mid-May. EV stocks are highly speculative, and FSR stands out even in this group given the stage of production it is in. So, for any investors wanting to take a stab at this one, they might want to keep their position size modest.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":32,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":137998461,"gmtCreate":1622279568553,"gmtModify":1704182652800,"author":{"id":"3569638094156050","authorId":"3569638094156050","name":"Estada","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/035b646e17ea259fd1e75b59654ef1ff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569638094156050","authorIdStr":"3569638094156050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Why?","listText":"Why?","text":"Why?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/137998461","repostId":"2139813294","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2139813294","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1622264825,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2139813294?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-29 13:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"BRIEF-Musk Says Tesla Model S Plaid Delivery Pushed To June 10 - Tweet","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2139813294","media":"Reuters","summary":"May 29 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc : * MODEL S PLAID DELIVERY PUSHED TO JUNE 10. An Australian now based in New York, he spent the first part of his life in Papua New Guinea and later grew up in a home filled with books but lacking hot water and electricity. After a stint atGoldman Sachs,McLennan took over from legendary value investor Jean-Marie Eveillard a week before the Lehman Brothers collapse, and has become one of the most influential investors today.
\n
I profiled McLennan in my new book,Richer, Wiser, Happier: How the World’s Greatest Investors Win in Markets and Life—an excerpt of whichcan be read here. I spoke with him again last week forBarron’s. McLennan warns of his concern over extreme economic uncertainty, speculative excess, and heady expectations for assets like tech stocks and Bitcoin. An edited version of our conversation follows.
\n
Matthew McLennan:I’m torn at the moment. On the one hand, we’re recovering froma deep cyclical trough, and that’s usually a good time to be an investor. On the other hand, prices aren’t that attractive, and we have all these secular issues. The flashing warning light is the scale of our fiscal deficit—its 15%. [Meaning the federal government is spending 15% more than it’s bringing in.] The market has been a beneficiary of enormous stimulus that’s of a wartime scale. The challenge is, by the mid part of this year, at the Fed’s current run rate of balance sheet expansion—what has been a 25% increase in money supply over the last year—will start to moderate to about a 10% percent rate of increase. So we’ll see a deceleration of the rate of money supply growth.
\n
Markets will also have to move beyond the focus on fiscal stimulus to ‘How are we going to pay for all this?’ And we’re going to see the emergence of a new regulatory architecture, which isn’t likely to be any more business-friendly. Inflation expectations have also moved up quite a bit, and what happens if inflation rises more than people expect? These are all issues that can weigh on the market as we roll forward.
\n
Are there signs that investors aren’t taking these risks seriously?
\n
There are periods where the market pays a premium for growth, and then there are market environments where it’s not even about growth—it’s about optionality and acceleration. You see that in multiple dimensions now: Witnessthe dramatic rise of Bitcoinor the eye-popping valuations of some of the larger companies in technology or alternative energy. Or the whole creation of the SPAC [special purpose acquisition companies] market where, again, people are paying for optionality—they’re paying for the potential to own a business. They don’t even know what it is yet. Things like that make one a little wary.
\n
I’ve also received calls from friends of my children and older people—all wondering how they can make money quickly in some of these emergent fields. I haven’t received such a frequency of calls since the late 1990s. It feels like one of those moments where it’s worth reminding people that the whole point of investing is to preserve purchasing power. If you’re prudent, you hopefully grow your purchasing power in a way that’s resilient.
\n
How does today compare to the excesses of the dot-com bubble?
\n
First Eagle’s McLennanPhotograph by Guerin Blask
\n
I think 1999 was more extreme. A host of concept stocks didn’t even have businesses, and some things traded at 25 times projected revenues. The Facebooks of the world are very real, cash-flow generative businesses. To me, what’s more disturbing today is that the policy backdrop is more extreme. The private sector is healthier, but maybe that’s because it’s subsidized by these massive fiscal deficits. The whole environment feels more artificial to me because we’ve never seen stimulus like this in our lifetimes.
\n
Gold is the biggest position in your two largest mutual funds. Why?
\n
We’ve heldgold as a potential hedgefor a decade-plus. During that period, the imbalances we worried about at a macro level have only grown worse. Mid-cycle fiscal deficits are worse today than 20 years ago. Structural real interest rates today are negative, whereas they were positive 20 years ago. The geopolitics of the world have only become more complicated. Even domestically, based upon the heated last election, it’s fair to say that the internal political dynamic is more fraught and less stable than it’s been for some time. And the stock market today trades at above 25 times the trailing peak level of earnings in 2019. So it’s already pricing not only a recovery of earnings, but the market setting a new high water mark in earnings. There are all of these risks out there, and the market’s not pricing a lot of risk right now.
\n
We own gold as a hedge against the unknowable. It’s almost a recognition of one’s own humility in the face of that uncertainty.
\n
Bitcoin is often described as “digital gold.” You’re skeptical. Why?
\n
Bitcoin was an amazing innovation. As a concept, as a mathematical construct, it’s quite the invention. But I refer to Bitcoin as a call option on digital gold rather thanbeingdigital gold. It’s not even 13 years old. It’s emergent in a new field of cryptocurrencies, and it doesn’t have a monopoly on that field, so it faces substitution risk. And even though it might be a valid option on being digital gold, it’s being priced as if it were digital gold. I don’t see central banks buying Bitcoin anytime soon, so it’s not really a substitute for central bank reserves. Nor is it a substitute for what people might use gold for, which is for eternity and adornment.
\n
If Bitcoin were to be a digital substitute for gold, it would have to be for the private hoarding demand of gold. Yet it doesn’t behave like gold. It has much greater volatility; it doesn’t have the same tight negative correlation with real interest rates and with the value of the dollar. In fact, it tends to trade more on tweets, whether from Elon Musk or people speculating about aCoinbaseIPO valuation. So it trades more like a growth equity, based on perceptions of its adoption, rather than as a more traditional store of value. If Bitcoin takes root more deeply, it can go up in value. But it’s hard to say thatthis is a value entry point.
\n
The last few years have been frustrating for investors in foreign markets. Are you finding attractive opportunities there?
\n
The international universe has been out of favor for a confluence of reasons. One is that the U.S. has been the epicenter of growth stock enthusiasm. Another reason why markets outside the U.S. have been at lower valuations, whether it’s Japan or the Eurozone, is persistent concern around deflation. But the U.S. doesn’t have a monopoly on good businesses. It pays to diversify, and you’re being paid to do so because valuations are lower internationally, and currencies are somewhat depressed relative to the dollar.
\n
Our largest European holding isDanone(BN.France). It’s underperformed the consumer staples universe. It’s gone through a series of management and other business-related issues over the last couple of years. The CEO has essentially been forced out. But the underlying businesses are sound. So it’s an interesting example of buying a sound business at a time when it’s been out of favor.
\n
Danone has three businesses. The infant nutrition business is attractive. They have their traditional dairy products business, with a very strong market share position in yogurt. And they’re a leader in the bottled water business, with brands like Evian and Badoit. The bottled water business has been out of favor during Covid because of restaurant lockdowns, and by virtue of ESG concerns. But the company has been at the forefront of transitioning to recyclables. The yogurt business is recovering from a period of sluggish growth. Meanwhile, the company has a free cash-flow yield of 5% to 6%, it’s committed to improving margins, and it’s in a transition to a management structure that’s likely to be more shareholder friendly.
\n
Is there an undervalued U.S. stock that embodies the durability you look for?
\n
Oracle(ORCL) is the dominant leader in the relational database business. They have a very strong market share position, and it’s improving. Now they’re launching their autonomous database, which requires far less human intervention, and that’s a growing part of their business. They’re also a leader in the ERP [Enterprise Resource Planning] business, and they’re taking share in that space. Those are the last pieces of software you want to change because it’s like open heart surgery. It’s software that’s connected to your entire business fabric. So their customer retention rates are very high.
\n
In the rear-vision mirror, you have a business that’s only generated modest revenue growth. But they’re close to an inflection point where they’ve seen the worst of the headwinds of the transition from the traditional software license business to the cloud. An Australian now based in New York, he spent the first part of his life in Papua New Guinea and later grew up in a home filled with books but lacking hot water and electricity. After a stint atGoldman Sachs,McLennan took over from legendary value investor Jean-Marie Eveillard a week before the Lehman Brothers collapse, and has become one of the most influential investors today.\nI profiled McLennan in my new book,Richer, Wiser, Happier: How the World’s Greatest Investors Win in Markets and Life—an excerpt of whichcan be read here. I spoke with him again last week forBarron’s. McLennan warns of his concern over extreme economic uncertainty, speculative excess, and heady expectations for assets like tech stocks and Bitcoin. An edited version of our conversation follows.\nMatthew McLennan:I’m torn at the moment. So we’ll see a deceleration of the rate of money supply growth.\nMarkets will also have to move beyond the focus on fiscal stimulus to ‘How are we going to pay for all this?’ And we’re going to see the emergence of a new regulatory architecture, which isn’t likely to be any more business-friendly. Inflation expectations have also moved up quite a bit, and what happens if inflation rises more than people expect? These are all issues that can weigh on the market as we roll forward.\nAre there signs that investors aren’t taking these risks seriously?\nThere are periods where the market pays a premium for growth, and then there are market environments where it’s not even about growth—it’s about optionality and acceleration. Things like that make one a little wary.\nI’ve also received calls from friends of my children and older people—all wondering how they can make money quickly in some of these emergent fields. I haven’t received such a frequency of calls since the late 1990s. It feels like one of those moments where it’s worth reminding people that the whole point of investing is to preserve purchasing power. If you’re prudent, you hopefully grow your purchasing power in a way that’s resilient.\nHow does today compare to the excesses of the dot-com bubble?\nFirst Eagle’s McLennanPhotograph by Guerin Blask\nI think 1999 was more extreme. The whole environment feels more artificial to me because we’ve never seen stimulus like this in our lifetimes.\nGold is the biggest position in your two largest mutual funds. Why?\nWe’ve heldgold as a potential hedgefor a decade-plus. There are all of these risks out there, and the market’s not pricing a lot of risk right now.\nWe own gold as a hedge against the unknowable. It’s almost a recognition of one’s own humility in the face of that uncertainty.\nBitcoin is often described as “digital gold.” You’re skeptical. Why?\nBitcoin was an amazing innovation. Nor is it a substitute for what people might use gold for, which is for eternity and adornment.\nIf Bitcoin were to be a digital substitute for gold, it would have to be for the private hoarding demand of gold. But it’s hard to say thatthis is a value entry point.\nThe last few years have been frustrating for investors in foreign markets. Are you finding attractive opportunities there?\nThe international universe has been out of favor for a confluence of reasons. It pays to diversify, and you’re being paid to do so because valuations are lower internationally, and currencies are somewhat depressed relative to the dollar.\nOur largest European holding isDanone(BN.France). It’s underperformed the consumer staples universe. It’s gone through a series of management and other business-related issues over the last couple of years. The CEO has essentially been forced out. But the underlying businesses are sound. So it’s an interesting example of buying a sound business at a time when it’s been out of favor.\nDanone has three businesses. Meanwhile, the company has a free cash-flow yield of 5% to 6%, it’s committed to improving margins, and it’s in a transition to a management structure that’s likely to be more shareholder friendly.\nIs there an undervalued U.S. stock that embodies the durability you look for?\nOracle(ORCL) is the dominant leader in the relational database business. So their customer retention rates are very high.\nIn the rear-vision mirror, you have a business that’s only generated modest revenue growth. But they’re close to an inflection point where they’ve seen the worst of the headwinds of the transition from the traditional software license business to the cloud. You’re getting a 5% to 6% free cashflow yield that’s growing in real terms. The founder, Larry Ellison, owns nearly 40% of the company, so you’re aligned with someone who acts like an owner. They bought back approximately 40% of their share count in the past decade. We’re looking for companies where there’s a line of sight to a sound return in a very low-yield world. And Oracle’s combination of free cash-flow yield and measured growth is what we look at to feel that we can get a sound real return.\nThanks, Matthew.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":18,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":349280430,"gmtCreate":1617615493920,"gmtModify":1704700865420,"author":{"id":"3569638094156050","authorId":"3569638094156050","name":"Estada","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/035b646e17ea259fd1e75b59654ef1ff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569638094156050","authorIdStr":"3569638094156050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes higher yield means USD is more valuable now so keep them to earn the yield","listText":"Yes higher yield means USD is more valuable now so keep them to earn the yield","text":"Yes higher yield means USD is more valuable now so keep them to earn the yield","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/349280430","repostId":"1103369816","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1103369816","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617614811,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1103369816?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-05 17:26","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Goldman Axes Short Dollar Call as Higher U.S. Yields Spoil Bet","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103369816","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Firm recommends closing USD shorts versus commodity currencies\nOpportunities to sell dollar may re-e","content":"
\n
Firm recommends closing USD shorts versus commodity currencies
\n
Opportunities to sell dollar may re-emerge as Europe recovers
\n
\n
Almost six months after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. recommendedshortingthe dollar, it’s calling it quits on the trade.
\n
In a note titled “tactical retreat,” Goldman’s currency team closed its recommended short greenback position against a basket of Group-of-10 commodity currencies, including the Australian and New Zealand dollars. It sees the euro gaining about 3% in the next three months to the $1.21 level, before testing $1.28 in a year.\nThe common currency traded around $1.1750 on Monday.\n“Clear evidence that Europe’s Covid situation is getting under control would likely warrant fresh dollar short recommendations,” the strategists wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":73,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162517125,"gmtCreate":1624067944367,"gmtModify":1703828046925,"author":{"id":"3569638094156050","authorId":"3569638094156050","name":"Estada","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/035b646e17ea259fd1e75b59654ef1ff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569638094156050","authorIdStr":"3569638094156050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Saw at 10 seems to be going up","listText":"Saw at 10 seems to be going up","text":"Saw at 10 seems to be going up","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f06369ef403f391337c48d89a3d55b85","width":"1080","height":"2825"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/162517125","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":68,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":169321165,"gmtCreate":1623817794557,"gmtModify":1703820421828,"author":{"id":"3569638094156050","authorId":"3569638094156050","name":"Estada","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/035b646e17ea259fd1e75b59654ef1ff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569638094156050","authorIdStr":"3569638094156050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Still a risky one for retail investors","listText":"Still a risky one for retail investors","text":"Still a risky one for retail investors","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/169321165","repostId":"1180909583","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1180909583","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623812789,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1180909583?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-16 11:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"SPACs could stage a summer comeback","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1180909583","media":"CNN Business","summary":"London (CNN Business) - Special-purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, were one of the stock marke","content":"
London (CNN Business) - Special-purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, were one of the stock market's hottest trends in early 2021, drawing in billionaires, celebrities and athletes.
\n
Then, in early spring, enthusiasm began to wane, as \"blank check\" firms — which raise money from investors and then go hunting for takeover targets — started to receive greater scrutiny from lawmakers and regulators in Washington.
\n
\"I have deep concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability that is a hallmark of the SPAC process,\" Rep. Why? Well, most would argue that this part of thestock marketis home to some of the top growth stocks today. For newer investors, growth stocks belong to companies that are anticipated to grow at a quicker rate than the broader market. More often than not, these companies place most of their revenue back towards improving their offerings. This would accurately describe tech companies who are constantly innovating and competing in their respective fields. Sure, tech stocks have taken a breather earlier this year. But, tech continues to evolve, nonetheless. Accordingly, there would be no shortage of news for tech investors today.

Speaking of news, we are currently in the midst of a heated earnings season for big tech now. Tech goliaths such as Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) continue to report stellar figures. For starters, Microsoft exceeded Wall Streets’ estimates with an earnings per share of $1.95 on revenue of $41.71 billion. This was followed by a 19% annualized revenue growth for the quarter, Microsoft’s largest quarterly increase since 2018. Elsewhere, Apple also reported a blowout quarter as company-wide sales surged by 54% year-over-year thanks to booming iPhone sales. All in all, tech stocks continue to make headlines this year. IBM stock currently trades at $141.25 as of 10:30 a.m. ET.

On Thursday, IBM announced that it will acquire Turbonomic, an application resource management (ARM) and network performance management (NPM) software provider based in Boston. Given how the pandemic had provided the sector with a catalyst, Zoom could potentially grow even further post-pandemic.

Early last week, the company also announced the Zoom Apps Fund, a new $100 million venture fund created to stimulate the growth of the company’s ecosystem of Zoom Apps. Portfolio companies will receive initial investments between $250,000 and $2.5 million to build solutions that will become core to how Zoom customers meet, communicate, and collaborate. In terms of scale, if digital payments are available, PayPal likely operates in that region. This year, PYPL stock would be in the spotlight thanks to the company’s growingcryptocurrencyportfolio. Since March, PayPal has acquired a cryptocurrency security firm and introduced major crypto-related integrations across its core offerings. These include being able to transact using digital currencies and being able to manage them on its flagship Venmo app. Seeing as PYPL stock is currently up by over 100% in the past year, would it be a wise investment?

Well, PayPal does not seem to be slowing down in the least bit. Just yesterday, news broke of its latest collaboration with leading cryptocurrency exchange platform, Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN). Through this partnership, millions of U.S. PayPal users can now purchase cryptocurrencies on Coinbase. As the duo simplify the process of purchasing digital currencies, it would further incentivize widespread consumer adoption. In turn, this could result in feedback as more people rely on their services. Safe to say, this appears to be a strategic play for both companies.
