Here's why three Motley Fool contributors think investors should consider buying these stocks now.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/feadb7f4cbb4c919fe13761b9b015ca3\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"434\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Tapping video games, 3D creation, virtual reality, and more</h2>\n<p><b>Danny Vena (Unity Software):</b> One stock Cathie Wood has been buying hand over fist in recent weeks is Unity Software. Wood has added to already substantial positions in four of ARK's six flagship ETFs, making Unity a top 10 position in three of them. All told, the four funds own more than 10.6 million shares of the stock, worth more than $1.2 billion.</p>\n<p>It's easy to see why Wood is so enthusiastic about Unity Software. The company provides the world's leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D content. It offers a comprehensive set of tools and software that help developers create 2D and 3D content for mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and consoles, as well as augmented reality and virtual reality devices.</p>\n<p>Unity has unrivaled scale and reach. In fact, 53% of the top 1,000 mobile games on <b>Apple</b>'s App Store and <b>Alphabet</b>'s Google Play store -- as well as over 50% of mobile games, PC games, and console games combined -- are made using Unity's platform. The company boasts 1.5 million monthly active creators in 190 countries, who account for more than 3 billion app downloads per month.</p>\n<p>What attracts developers to Unity is the ability to see and modify their creations in real time. This results in a significant decrease in design and development time, making developers more productive. It also helps them react and adapt their games and apps to end-user feedback, again in real time. Games built on Unity's platform can be created once and instantly deployed across more than 20 popular platforms, including <b>Microsoft</b>&nbsp;Windows and Xbox, <b>Sony</b> PlayStation, Mac, iOS, and Android, among others.</p>\n<p>Unity's full-year revenue for 2020 increased 43% year over year to $772 million. That strong growth continued into the first quarter, with revenue of $235 million up 41%. Like many early stage, high-growth companies, Unity is awash in red ink, but the news isn't all bad. Adjusting for <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a>-time IPO-related charges, its 2020 operating loss improved by 45%.</p>\n<p>Wood has other reasons for investing heavily in Unity Software. In ARK Invest's <i>Big Ideas for 2021</i> report, she pointed out that revenue from virtual worlds -- which include video games, augmented reality, and virtual reality -- is expected to grow at 17% annually over the next several years, from $180 billion today to $390 billion by 2025. With its unique position in a large and growing ecosystem, Unity could be <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the biggest beneficiaries of this accelerating trend.</p>\n<p>Lastly, Unity Software's stock is currently available at a bargain basement price, selling for 31% off its recent highs.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6881ca12a327c150585c346eaa00cb65\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Maybe it's time to get in on this e-commerce leader</h2>\n<p><b>Brian Withers (JD): </b>JD.com seems to be a Cathie Wood favorite. Not surprisingly, it's the second-largest holding in the ARK <b>Autonomous Technology &amp; Robotics ETF</b>, as the leading Chinese retailer depends on robotics technology for warehousing functions and even last-mile delivery. But this technology-first company is also a holding in three other ARK ETFs. Let's look at why Wood has added more shares in the last several weeks.</p>\n<p>First, the stock is down more than 30% off its high, and not because the business is doing poorly. In fact, the company just put up stellar first-quarter results. Second, the ARK funds have owned shares of JD since mid-2017, and in the first quarter, the funds more than doubled the share count over the quarter. It's likely these buys over the course of this year and the recent purchases show that they are excited about the company's performance, long-term prospects, and valuation.</p>\n<p>Let's look at its most recent quarter. Not surprisingly, the top line decreased sequentially from the holiday quarter, but managed to beat analysts' expectations and post a 39% year-over-year increase. The company income from operations remains in the black, but still runs thin margins as it is investing profits into growth efforts. Over the past 12 months, more than 80% of its 112 million new active customers have come from lower-tier markets. And the company is expanding its footprint to better serve those regions. With its more than 1,000 warehouses across the region, its logistics team can now reach almost the entire country with rapid delivery services. Lastly, it's newly formed business group, Jingxi, is set up to serve price-sensitive customers in lower-tier regions. In its first quarter of operation, Jingxi served 17 provinces with its e-commerce operations.</p>\n<p>There's lots to like about this leading Chinese e-commerce retailer's business, especially with its stock trading at reasonable valuations. Compared to <b>Sea Limited</b>'s lofty price-to-sales ratio of 25 and <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MELI\">MercadoLibre</a></b>'s 16, JD shares are valued at a 1 P/S ratio. Additionally, it has a P/E ratio of a cool 15, whereas its Latin American and Southeast Asian counterparts don't have earnings to record a P/E ratio.</p>\n<p>It's no wonder that the Cathie Wood and the ARK investment team are adding to their position with the shares at a discount to its recent high. Maybe it's time you did the same?</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5285fb5addec9f4ee008390f0b414fd2\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2><b>This video game&nbsp;stock is anything but child's play&nbsp;</b></h2>\n<p><b>Chris Neiger (Roblox):</b> Roblox is a popular video game platform that not only allows users to play games but also to create their own games -- and it's been a massive success so far.</p>\n<p>Cathie Wood has taken notice of the company as well and bought more shares of Roblox just last week. The stock is down about 4% over the past 30 days, which might have spurred Wood's funds to add to their Roblox position.</p>\n<p>And investors may be wise to follow in Wood's footsteps. Roblox has created a video game platform unlike anything its competitors have, and is adding new players and increasing platform engagement at a healthy clip.</p>\n<p>Roblox has more than 43 million daily active users, 8 million developers creating games on its platform, and 100 million global active users.</p>\n<p>In the most recent quarter, sales spiked 140% from the year-ago quarter, and its users spent 9.8 <i>billion</i> hours engaged with the platform, an increase of 98% year over year.</p>\n<p>Investors should know that this company isn't profitable (it posted a loss of $134 million in the most recent quarter), and it just went public back in March. Both of these factors mean that the share price could be volatile in the short term as the company continues to grow.</p>\n<p>But the long-term potential for this company is firmly intact. Wood has added to already substantial positions in four of ARK's six flagship ETFs, making Unity a top 10 position in three of them. All told, the four funds own more than 10.6 million shares of the stock, worth more than $1.2 billion.\nIt's easy to see why Wood is so enthusiastic about Unity Software. The company provides the world's leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D content. It offers a comprehensive set of tools and software that help developers create 2D and 3D content for mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and consoles, as well as augmented reality and virtual reality devices.\nUnity has unrivaled scale and reach. In fact, 53% of the top 1,000 mobile games on Apple's App Store and Alphabet's Google Play store -- as well as over 50% of mobile games, PC games, and console games combined -- are made using Unity's platform. The company boasts 1.5 million monthly active creators in 190 countries, who account for more than 3 billion app downloads per month.\nWhat attracts developers to Unity is the ability to see and modify their creations in real time. This results in a significant decrease in design and development time, making developers more productive. It also helps them react and adapt their games and apps to end-user feedback, again in real time. Games built on Unity's platform can be created once and instantly deployed across more than 20 popular platforms, including Microsoft Windows and Xbox, Sony PlayStation, Mac, iOS, and Android, among others.\nUnity's full-year revenue for 2020 increased 43% year over year to $772 million. That strong growth continued into the first quarter, with revenue of $235 million up 41%. Like many early stage, high-growth companies, Unity is awash in red ink, but the news isn't all bad. Adjusting for one-time IPO-related charges, its 2020 operating loss improved by 45%.\nWood has other reasons for investing heavily in Unity Software. In ARK Invest's Big Ideas for 2021 report, she pointed out that revenue from virtual worlds -- which include video games, augmented reality, and virtual reality -- is expected to grow at 17% annually over the next several years, from $180 billion today to $390 billion by 2025. With its unique position in a large and growing ecosystem, Unity could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of this accelerating trend.\nLastly, Unity Software's stock is currently available at a bargain basement price, selling for 31% off its recent highs.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nMaybe it's time to get in on this e-commerce leader\nBrian Withers (JD): JD.com seems to be a Cathie Wood favorite. Not surprisingly, it's the second-largest holding in the ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF, as the leading Chinese retailer depends on robotics technology for warehousing functions and even last-mile delivery. But this technology-first company is also a holding in three other ARK ETFs. Let's look at why Wood has added more shares in the last several weeks.\nFirst, the stock is down more than 30% off its high, and not because the business is doing poorly. In fact, the company just put up stellar first-quarter results. Second, the ARK funds have owned shares of JD since mid-2017, and in the first quarter, the funds more than doubled the share count over the quarter. It's likely these buys over the course of this year and the recent purchases show that they are excited about the company's performance, long-term prospects, and valuation.\nLet's look at its most recent quarter. Not surprisingly, the top line decreased sequentially from the holiday quarter, but managed to beat analysts' expectations and post a 39% year-over-year increase. The company income from operations remains in the black, but still runs thin margins as it is investing profits into growth efforts. Over the past 12 months, more than 80% of its 112 million new active customers have come from lower-tier markets. And the company is expanding its footprint to better serve those regions. With its more than 1,000 warehouses across the region, its logistics team can now reach almost the entire country with rapid delivery services. Lastly, it's newly formed business group, Jingxi, is set up to serve price-sensitive customers in lower-tier regions. In its first quarter of operation, Jingxi served 17 provinces with its e-commerce operations.\nThere's lots to like about this leading Chinese e-commerce retailer's business, especially with its stock trading at reasonable valuations. Compared to Sea Limited's lofty price-to-sales ratio of 25 and MercadoLibre's 16, JD shares are valued at a 1 P/S ratio. Additionally, it has a P/E ratio of a cool 15, whereas its Latin American and Southeast Asian counterparts don't have earnings to record a P/E ratio.\nIt's no wonder that the Cathie Wood and the ARK investment team are adding to their position with the shares at a discount to its recent high. The stock is down about 4% over the past 30 days, which might have spurred Wood's funds to add to their Roblox position.\nAnd investors may be wise to follow in Wood's footsteps. Roblox has created a video game platform unlike anything its competitors have, and is adding new players and increasing platform engagement at a healthy clip.\nRoblox has more than 43 million daily active users, 8 million developers creating games on its platform, and 100 million global active users.\nIn the most recent quarter, sales spiked 140% from the year-ago quarter, and its users spent 9.8 billion hours engaged with the platform, an increase of 98% year over year.\nInvestors should know that this company isn't profitable (it posted a loss of $134 million in the most recent quarter), and it just went public back in March. Both of these factors mean that the share price could be volatile in the short term as the company continues to grow.\nBut the long-term potential for this company is firmly intact. Berkshire’s total returns over the past three- and five-year periods were 12% and 14%, respectively, compared with the index’s 19% and 18%.</p><p>“Berkshire has gotten a pass in part because of its historically strong financial performance,” said Simiso Nzima, head of corporate governance at Calpers.</p><p></p><p>Berkshire has continued to stress its continued focus on the long game. Mr. Buffett, who is chief executive and chairman of the company, built up<u>a diverse portfolio of mostly U.S. businesses and investments meant to perform over decades</u>, not to compete with a volatile market buoyed by booming tech stocks.</p><p>Calpers, the nation’s largest public-pension fund with $444 billion in assets, co-sponsored a shareholder proposal imploring Berkshire to provide more disclosures on climate-related risks and opportunities.</p><p>The pension fund is also withholding its votes to re-elect members of the board’s audit and governance committees on grounds of failing to meet shareholder demands over climate-risk disclosures. It said it was concerned that the board lacks new members, doesn’t engage with shareholders and isn’t letting investors vote on executive pay plans.</p><p>“If you don’t refresh the board, you don’t have a next generation of directors able to learn from the long-serving directors before they leave the board,” Mr. Nzima said.</p><p>Berkshire declined to comment ahead of the company’s Saturday meeting.</p><p>Neuberger, a privately held money manager with more than $429 billion in assets, also said it would vote for several shareholder-led proposals related to environmental, social and corporate-governance issues, often abbreviated as ESG.</p><p>“One would think that if companies have a responsibility to look out for the environment or deliver good on social issues and governance, that Berkshire might be a leader in these areas,” said Michelle Giordano, a Neuberger analyst who follows the company. “But it doesn’t seem like they are.”</p><p></p><p>Berkshire said in its annual proxy statement that while it agreed companies had a responsibility to manage&nbsp;climate risks, it preferred to let its various operating units commit to their own environmental policies. Mandates from a small corporate office, the company wrote, would infringe upon the autonomy that has helped those businesses thrive under Berkshire’s ownership. Berkshire Hathaway Energy, for instance, already produces<u>a sustainability report</u>.</p><p>Calpers has also pledged to support a proposal requiring the company to report its efforts to diversify its staff.</p><p>Berkshire said the diversity-report proposal improperly suggests that “there is a standardized technique for each of Berkshire’s more than 60 operating businesses to address diversity, equity and inclusion.”</p><p>“It would be unreasonable to ask for uniform, quantitative reporting for the purposes of comparing such dissimilar operations in different geographic locations,” Berkshire wrote.</p><p>Glass Lewis and ISS recommended shareholders vote for the ESG proposals and withhold votes for certain directors.</p><p>“This year there’s a lot more attention given from mainstream investors on ESG issues,” said Courteney Keatinge, a senior director of ESG research at Glass Lewis.</p><p>Another factor is at play: Berkshire shares are slowly changing hands.</p><p>Mr. Buffett’s longstanding plan to shrink his stake in the company over time has shifted more Berkshire shares to big institutional investors, said Lawrence Cunningham, a law professor at George Washington University who has written extensively about the company.</p><p>About 70% of Berkshire’s shares are owned by individuals, many of whom are longtime holders loyal to Mr. Buffett, Mr. Cunningham said. And many don’t care whether Berkshire lacks a corporate sustainability report or an investor-relations team at the ready to answer their questions.</p><p>“Berkshire’s unusual and valued family of individual shareholders may add to your understanding of our reluctance to court Wall Street analysts and institutional investors,” Mr. Buffett wrote in his most recent letter to shareholders. “We already have the investors we want and don’t think that they, on balance, would be upgraded by replacements.”</p><p>The gradual uptick in institutional ownership, though, might already be empowering professional managers to press Berkshire on governance matters.&nbsp;When Mr. Buffett and his estate sell off his remaining shares, it is likely those money managers will hold an even bigger stake in the company, Mr. Cunningham said.</p><p>“There will be a dawning of significant leadership and structural change, and these holders are preparing for that battle,” Mr. Cunningham said.</p>","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That'd be especially true if moves from<b>Apple</b>and others to manufacture chips internally boost demand for chip design services.</p><p>The story has a fair share of risks. The semiconductor industry is notoriously cyclical, as demand and pricing can fluctuate drastically based on theproduct replacement cycle, rather than global macroeconomic conditions. It's good to hold today, and it could be much larger in the future.</p><p><b>Microsoft</b></p><p><b>Microsoft</b>(NASDAQ:MSFT)is famous for its Windows operating system and the Office software suite, but it is also one of the major players incloud services. The company also owns the networking and employment social media platform LinkedIn, has a large video game business, and sells the popular Surface brand of touchscreen computers.</p><p>Microsoft has a rare combination of favorable characteristics. The company enjoys stability through enormous scale and product diversity, but it is also delivering exceptional growth -- that's not common. For the first six months of fiscal 2021, total sales increased nearly 15% over the prior year. The company's Azure server products and cloud services grew 50% year over year in the most recent quarter. That segment has expanded to exceed the revenue produced by Microsoft's flagship personal computing products. Almost every business is tech-enabled now, and the inevitable growth of software as a service (SaaS), cybersecurity, and remote collaboration is a catalyst for cloud service providers.</p><p>Microsoft is in direct competition with fearsome heavy-hitters including<b>Amazon</b>,<b>Alphabet</b>, and Apple. That's certainly a risk. That said, Azure is second only to AWS in the cloud market, with 20% share. Encouragingly, it has actually gained market share over the past year. Microsoft will grow by merely maintaining share in the next decade, as cloud services are expected to expand nearly 20% annually.</p><p>At a forward P/E ratio of only 28.7, there's too much upside potential here relative to the risks associated with competition.
