(PLTR), a big data and analytics company, can be best defined by its use cases such as capturing terrorists as well as building mission-critical customized solutions for the public and private sectors, and its stock has been having a rollercoaster ride over the past year. Following its IPO in September 2020 at a price of $10 per share, the stock reached a high of over $39 in February 2021, only to shed most of these gains over the last 12 months. In what was a remarkable year for all major U.S. market indexes, Palantir stock struggled in 2021 and is down more than 28% this year as well. This lackluster market performance prompted us to initiate coverage of Palantir to determine whether Mr. Market is missing something.

Palantir’s complex business structure together with the stock price action as a meme stock attracted the attention of many retail investors in its early days as a public company. While the company has been portraying impressive revenue growth as well as introducing many initiatives to promote future growth, we believe a few negative developments are overshadowing the fundamentals and the potential of the company.

On that note, we believe now is a good time to invest in Palantir stock, and our investment thesis is based on three reasons.

High-value public and private sector opportunities.

The changing shareholder composition.

The attractive price point to initiate an investment in the company.

We will briefly discuss these three reasons below.

The opportunity

The first reason is the opportunity that prevails in the current market for the services provided by the company. Palantir’s software integrates organizations’ data from diverse sources and allows users to run analytics, identify trends, and make informed decisions using Artificial Intelligence. The two main platforms used by Palantir are Foundry and Gotham. Gotham is mostly used for government applications, whereas Foundry is for the private sector that allows businesses to interpret information feeds. The global big data market is expected to grow from $138.9 billion in 2020 to $229.4 billion by 2025, at a compounded annual growth rate of 10.6%. The major growth factors of the big data market include the increasing awareness of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices among organizations, increasing availability of data across organizations to gain deeper insights to remain competitive, and increasing government investments in various regions for enhancing digital technologies. This is a fast-growing market, as evident by these projections, and we believe Palantir is well-positioned to make the most of this favorable macroeconomic outlook.

Exhibit 1: The global big data market

Source: Markets and Markets

Looking at the recent deals secured by Palantir with Dewpoint Therapeutics and Hyundai Heavy Industries, there seems to be strong commercial potential for Palantir’s technologies. On the government front, off-the-shelf software solutions are given preference over bespoke solutions given the high costs involved in developing bespoke solutions. Gartner, in its worldwide government IT spending report released in February 2021, highlighted that spending will reach $483 billion in 2021, an increase of 5.1% from 2020. The software segment was expected to have the highest growth (9.2%) compared to 2020, which confirms the strong momentum behind government software spending.

Exhibit 2: Government IT spending forecast by segment

Source: Gartner

Second, the changing shareholder composition. The strong revenue growth portrayed by the company in the recent past did not receive due recognition in the market, in our opinion. The third quarter of 2021 is widely seen as a disappointing quarter for Palantir despite the company reporting year-over-year revenue growth of 35.5%, and this is mainly because of the decelerating growth of the government sector revenue. Palantir reported 34% YoY growth in the governmental segment revenue compared to 66% in the previous quarter, and this deceleration of growth did not impress the market. The commercial segment, excluding related party revenue, grew 23% YoY, and we believe this segment holds the key to the expected success of the company. Even though Q3 2021 revenue growth decelerated, Palantir continues to grow its topline every quarter, and given the favorable industry outlook as well as market opportunities, we believe the management guidance for 30%+ annual growth through 2025 is easily attainable. After looking at the recent price action in the market, we conclude that the market has always been pricing in higher revenue growth for Palantir in each of the last few quarters, and the otherwise impressive financial performance was overshadowed by these unrealistic growth expectations. Now that the hype is finally fading, we believe Palantir will attract the attention of investors who are in it for the long run, which in return could lead to reduced volatility in the stock while creating a platform for Palantir stock to drive on improving fundamentals.

Exhibit 3: Palantir institutional ownership

Source: Fintel

Third, the improving margin of safety resulting from the comparatively cheaper valuation. Although the company is making losses, the business is generating positive free cash flow with $320 million in FCF reported for the first three quarters of 2021, a massive year-over-year improvement from a loss of $285 million in the prior-year period. Palantir is currently trading at a P/S multiple of close to 17, which certainly does not make it the most cheaply valued tech company today, but in comparison to Snowflake, Inc. (SNOW) which is valued at a P/S multiple of more than 80, we believe Palantir’s expected growth justifies the current valuation. In any case, the company is more cheaply valued than it used to be just a few months ago – yes, it can get cheaper – and we strongly believe tech companies with competitive advantages will continue to be valued at better-than-average valuation multiples in the long run.

Two risks to monitor

The main red flag we see in Palantir is its excessive stock-based compensation. For a company that has been making losses every quarter and is only reporting profits on an adjusted basis, we feel the company is making life difficult for itself with this compensation structure as it negatively impacts the numbers reported by the company.

Second, we are keeping an eye on Palantir’s concentrated customer base. Already, the intense sensitivity of Palantir’s projects has resulted in investors being unable to forecast and assess the performance of Palantir’s software and its future operational performance. Palantir has only 203 customers in total, of which the top 20 customers account for over 50% of its revenue. This concentrated customer base makes it difficult to project future revenue and also poses a threat to the continued success of the company. Palantir, however, is adding new customers every quarter, and we will monitor these numbers closely to assess whether the company is on the right track to building a diversified pool of customers.

Takeaway

The road to recovery for Palantir is going to be a bumpy ride and investors will have to accept some volatility in the short run. With several government deals in the cards and the commercial segment gaining traction, we believe Palantir is on the cusp of entering a growth phase that would push the company into profitability. Palantir has not been this cheap for quite some time, and as growth investors, we are intrigued by what we are seeing today.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons Why We Believe Palantir Stock Will Rebound
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons Why We Believe Palantir Stock Will Rebound\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-09 11:35 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryPalantir, since its debut in 2020, has attracted the attention of many investors - both bulls and bears. The market performance of the company, however, has not lived up to expectations due to ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc."},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4485111-palantir-pltr-stock-rebound-reasons","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1148039551","content_text":"SummaryPalantir, since its debut in 2020, has attracted the attention of many investors - both bulls and bears. The market performance of the company, however, has not lived up to expectations due to several negative developments. We believe growth investors should consider Palantir at this attractive entry point because of three main reasons.Michael Vi/iStock Editorial via Getty ImagesThis article was written by Nirasha Senanayake, CFA in collaboration with Dilantha De Silva.Palantir Technologies, Inc. In this report, the company posted worse-than-expected net income and forecast underwhelming first-quarter revenue.

This has been a tough few months for PayPal. The company cited supply chain issues and inflation as reasons growth slowed, and the fact that it is cutting ties with eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) doesn't help the situation. However, PayPal still has a rock-solid foundation, and its shift to a new business strategy could pay dividends in the future. Here's why I am less worried than many other investors.

Why shares slumped

The macroeconomic environment hurt many businesses in the fourth quarter, and PayPal was no exception. Inflation crimped spending on its platform, and supply chain constraints reduced the company's cross-border volume rates. As a result, revenue grew just 13%, posting $6.9 billion for Q4, and net income was $801 million -- down from $1.5 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The company was also affected by its separation from eBay. PayPal used to be owned by the e-commerce company, but since they split, PayPal had been the partner and primary payments platform. However, eBay announced a new partner in 2018, Adyen (OTC:ADYE.Y), to replace PayPal. This is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2022.

eBay -- while a small fish compared to e-commerce platforms like Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) -- is still expected to take $600 million off PayPal's top line: $400 million in the first quarter and $200 million in the second. Consequently, PayPal is anticipating revenue growth of just 6% year over year for Q1 -- much lower than the company's traditional 20% growth rates.

A miss on the bottom line and lowered forecasts were enough to hurt the stock, but the company continued to hand out what seemed like bad news to investors. The company reported 9.8 million net new active accounts (NNAs), which was lower than expected and 3.5 million fewer than third-quarter 2021.

This was primarily driven by a 4.5 million reduction in NNAs, which management cited as "illegitimate accounts." The company also announced that it will not hit its goal of 750 million accounts in the future. Instead, management said, it will shift its focus to increasing user engagement and lowering churn.

The road ahead

PayPal's growth strategy has historically been to expand its user base, and it has done that well. Today, it has more than 426 million users on its platform. However, PayPal is going to start focusing on increasing user engagement rather than expanding its user base. Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman noted in the Q4 earnings call that PayPal sees lots of users added in any given quarter, but many of them are not engaged or only do one transaction, then they go dormant. When the company spends money to reengage these users, they engage once, then are inactive again. With this, a lot of capital that PayPal spends on these users goes to waste and typically results in a high-churn environment.

What PayPal wants to do is increase engagement among its active and loyal users, and focus less on attracting NNAs and inactive past users. This, Schulman claims, will be more capital-efficient, increase the company's return on investment, and result in stronger revenue and profit growth. This will, however, damp the company's NNA growth, and the company now projects 35 million to 40 million NNAs this year, lower than the 122 million it had in the past two years combined.

Despite this weaker growth and expected weakness in the first half of 2022, PayPal is still a financial machine, and that should not be underrated. Last year, the company brought in more than $5.4 billion in free cash flow, resulting in a 21% free cash flow margin. The company's net income was similar: It brought in almost $4.2 billion in 2021.

While the loss of eBay is going to hurt the business, it has already been developing even better partnerships with other companies to replace it. PayPal announced deals with Amazon, DoorDash (NYSE:DASH), and Instacart, just to name a few. As a result of these strong partnerships, Chief Financial Officer John Rainey said he expects that revenue growth will rebound to its normal 20% range by year end.

Why I am still optimistic

PayPal is a market leader in payments, with more than 75% acceptance among the 1,500 largest retailers in North America. This beats out other fintech platforms like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Affirm (NASDAQ:AFRM). This is not to mention that its user count is larger than the entire U.S. population, and represents over 6% of the entire world's population.

This industry leader might be weaker in the short term as it faces a strategy shift and headwinds, but PayPal's long-term prospects look strong. Its shift to engagement might temporarily hurt its bottom line, but this more profitable strategy will likely benefit the company -- and shareholders -- over the next five years, which is why I think PayPal is still a robust company today.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
426 Million Reasons to Love PayPal Stock Right Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n426 Million Reasons to Love PayPal Stock Right Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-08 20:53 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Shares of PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) fell 25% the day after it reported fourth-quarter and full-year earnings results on Tuesday, Feb. 1. The company reported 9.8 million net new active accounts (NNAs), which was lower than expected and 3.5 million fewer than third-quarter 2021.This was primarily driven by a 4.5 million reduction in NNAs, which management cited as \"illegitimate accounts.\" The company also announced that it will not hit its goal of 750 million accounts in the future. Instead, management said, it will shift its focus to increasing user engagement and lowering churn. The road aheadPayPal's growth strategy has historically been to expand its user base, and it has done that well. This will, however, damp the company's NNA growth, and the company now projects 35 million to 40 million NNAs this year, lower than the 122 million it had in the past two years combined.Despite this weaker growth and expected weakness in the first half of 2022, PayPal is still a financial machine, and that should not be underrated. Last year, the company brought in more than $5.4 billion in free cash flow, resulting in a 21% free cash flow margin. The company's net income was similar: It brought in almost $4.2 billion in 2021.While the loss of eBay is going to hurt the business, it has already been developing even better partnerships with other companies to replace it. PayPal announced deals with Amazon, DoorDash (NYSE:DASH), and Instacart, just to name a few. As a result of these strong partnerships, Chief Financial Officer John Rainey said he expects that revenue growth will rebound to its normal 20% range by year end.Why I am still optimisticPayPal is a market leader in payments, with more than 75% acceptance among the 1,500 largest retailers in North America. Its shift to engagement might temporarily hurt its bottom line, but this more profitable strategy will likely benefit the company -- and shareholders -- over the next five years, which is why I think PayPal is still a robust company today.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":44,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9940647156,"gmtCreate":1677897751976,"gmtModify":1677897756519,"author":{"id":"3572351839970849","authorId":"3572351839970849","name":"吹股神","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a As New York Fed president he is a standing voter of the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee.
\n
Dallas Fed President Kaplan also said on Wednesday that \"he'd be advocating that we should announce a plan for adjusting these purchases in the September meeting, and begin shortly thereafter, maybe in October.\" Kaplan isn't a voting FOMC member this year.
\n
A host of other Fed members are slated to speak on Thursday, including Kaplan at noon, Fed Gov. Michelle Bowman at 1 p.m., and Williams at 2 p.m. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren and Kaplan participate in an event jointly at 4 p.m.
\n
Meanwhile, investors also are looking to Europe for cues on policy, with economists now expecting a modest reduction in the rate of bond purchases made using the ECB's Pandemic Emergency Purchase Program,or PEPP.
\n
The ECB is expected to scale back monthly PEPP purchases from EUR80 billion ($95 billion) to EUR70 billion, or possibly as low as EUR60 billion.
\n
The larger question facing the ECB is the fate of what's called the Asset Purchase Program, which will continue even as the PEPP is due to be phased out in March 2022. Economists at ING are currently forecasting EUR314 billion of ECB bond purchases next year, against a supply increase of EUR500 billion for government, supranational and agency bonds.
\n
Some strategists make the case that the tone of the statements by Lagarde will be more of a focus for market participants.
\n
What analysts are saying
\n
\"The ECB will likely refrain from indicating a precise amount for PEPP purchases and, as usual, investors will look at weekly data to get indications of the size. The reduction in PEPP purchases will most likely only start in 4Q, so about one month from now,\" wrote analysts at UniCredit in a daily note.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Advertising accounted for 86.1% and 62.4% of total revenues in 2019 and 2020, respectively. We estimate advertising as a percentage of revenues to gradually decline in the next five years as it is offset by the faster growing Paid Memberships and Content Commerce Solutions. We expect this ratio to improve further to 79% in 2021, 69.2% in 2022, and 57.2% in 2025. The bulk of the improvements in operating expenses is coming from lower SG&A and R&D expenses as a percentage of revenues in the next five years.Company BackgroundAt the end of 2020, Zhihu had more than 43.1 million cumulative content creators that contributed 315 million questions and answers. In 4Q 2020, the company had 75.7 million average monthly active users, up 33% YoY. One of the key strengths of the company is that it is recognized as one of the most trustworthy online content communities and regarded as providing one of the highest quality content in China. Given that the company had $97 million in sales in 2019, this would suggest a P/S valuation multiple of 36x. If we take the same P/S multiple apply to the company's 2020 sales of $207 million, this would suggest an implied valuation of $7.5 billion.Zhihu was originally developed as a question and answer online community in 2010. Case study No. 2, this is where a company started with Zoom as a subscription as Zoom Phone, Zoom Room expansion comes in. It's an even bigger opportunity than the original Zoom subscription. When you look at how small they're penetrated into their customer base with these two products, and that these two products can actually be higher subscription revenue than the core product itself, it's something that I really like with Zoom going forward as we go back to work, go back to the office. And at this valuation, I really like it.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":327,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091899537,"gmtCreate":1643817442721,"gmtModify":1676533859945,"author":{"id":"3572351839970849","authorId":"3572351839970849","name":"吹股神","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Too many EV companies ,not a good idea for long term investment ","listText":"Too many EV companies ,not a good idea for long term investment ","text":"Too many EV companies ,not a good idea for long term investment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091899537","repostId":"1143415910","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1143415910","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1643812844,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1143415910?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-02-02 22:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"EV Stocks Dropped in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1143415910","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Tesla, Nio, XPeng, and Li Auto fell between 1% and 3% in morning trading.nio","content":"

Tesla, Nio, XPeng, and Li Auto fell between 1% and 3% in morning trading.

nio

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
