the Federal Reserve will be forced to raise interest rates sooner than is generally expected, as he believes that inflation will be less transitory than many believe.</p>\n<p>On meme stocks, the Morgan Stanley CEO said that it was a good thing that young people are entering the market and learning about investing.</p>\n<p>However, he worries that many are taking the wrong lesson from stocks that move 1,200% in a year, as some meme stocks have done.</p>\n<p>\"I don't think it's healthy,\" he said of the enormous returns seen in a short time by some meme stocks, calling those gains \"a recipe for disaster at some point.\"</p>\n<p>On the outlook for interest rates, Gorman explained that the current market is being driven by an extremely unusual combination of tailwinds. He pointed out that the economy is bolstered by record-low rates, record-high fiscal stimulus and a synchronized recovery throughout the world spurred by a post-pandemic return to normal.</p>\n<p>Gorman believes that this set of conditions will drive inflation, which will prove to be less transitory than many assume. As a result, the Fed will be forced to raise rates sooner than the market currently expects.</p>\n<p>Looking at the market as a whole, Gorman said meme stocks, the SPAC market and the volatility in cryptocurrencies are examples of \"moments of froth\" and \"spurts of exuberance\" in a market that otherwise has many rational reasons for its advance.
