In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA.U\">Two</a> dividend stock screens</p>\n<p>What do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.</p>\n<p>Here's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&amp;P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.</p>\n<p>For this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&amp;P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&amp;P 500 , the S&amp;P Mid Cap 400 Index <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MID\">$(MID)$</a> and the S&amp;P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.</p>\n<p>Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)</p>\n<p>Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.</p>\n<p>Starting with the S&amp;P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. Ordinarily that would appear to be plenty of headroom to support the dividend. But it implies a payout ratio of 62%, which is much higher than the ratio of the current yield to the forward FCF yield.</p>\n<p>REITs</p>\n<p>For a second screen of real estate investment trusts, we used funds from operations (FFO) instead of free cash flow. FFO adds depreciation on real estate to earnings and nets out gains or losses on the sale of property. Wall Street is pumping out reports on cryptos. Piper Sandler issued a 30-page report on Thursday, noting that the “crypto-economy could be entering a pivotal point in its development/lifecycle.”</p>\n<p>Coinbase Global, the largest U.S. crypto exchange and custodian, says it plans to go public on April 14 in what may be the largest tech IPO since&nbsp;Facebook(ticker: FB) in 2012. Private valuations peg Coinbase at $68 billion. The firm custodies an estimated $90 billion in crypto assets on its platform. It had revenue of $1.3 billion in 2020 and profits of $322 million, according to a regulatory filing.</p>\n<p>Fintechs see Bitcoin and other cryptos as a vast new market for payments and transaction services.Visasays it plans to settle transactions in a “stablecoin,” USD Coin (USDC). About $10 billion of USDC is now circulating, according to Visa, which sees it used for everything from buying a cup of coffee to cross-border payments, trade settlements, or foreign money transfers. Stablecoins are like digital dollars, pegged in value to the buck.</p>\n<p>Other votes of confidence in Bitcoin are coming fromTesla(TSLA),PayPal Holdings(PYPL) andSquare(SQ), all of which are now offering ways to transact in Bitcoin or other cryptos.</p>\n<p>And there are expanding ways to invest, including derivatives, stocks and holding companies like the&nbsp;Grayscale Bitcoin Trust&nbsp;(GBTC). Fund sponsors are also angling to launch a U.S.-listed exchange-traded fund (catching up to Canada, where&nbsp;Bitcoin ETFs recently started trading).</p>\n<p>U.S. fund sponsors filing for approvals recently include Fidelity Investments, VanEck,WisdomTree Investments(WETF), SkyBridge Capital, Valkyrie Digital Assets, and NYDIG Asset Management, according to Piper Sandler.</p>\n<p>The Securities and Exchange Commission has so far declined to approve a Bitcoin ETF, citing concerns about volatility, price transparency, and market manipulation. However, the Biden Administration’s nominee for SEC chairman, Gary Gensler, may take a friendlier approach. Gensler previously ran the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and has studied cryptos extensively. “This is good news for the digital assets industry,” wrote Jeff Bandman, a former CFTC official in aposton CoinDesk.</p>\n<p>As Bitcoin becomes entrenched, it may only get harder for regulators to restrain. Its growing acceptance as an alternative investment or transaction currency is far outpacing regulatory controls. That, in turn, could improve the investment case for owning it, according to Piper Sandler.</p>\n<p>“Many investors view this scale as a safeguard against potentially overbearing regulations from governments in the developed world,” Piper says. Investing in Bitcoin, the firm adds, is a “quasi call option for both individuals and institutions on this new and potentially disruptive technology.”</p>\n<p>Some economists also view Bitcoin’s rising clout as a means of keeping regulators at bay.</p>\n<p>“My read on the last six to 12 months is that as influential investors come in, it puts pressure on regulators not to do anything,” says Harvard economist Kenneth Rogoff, who doesn’t expect regulators to sit on their hands forever.</p>\n<p>Bitcoin and other crytpos are regulated by various federal agencies and states, but they aren’t entirely clear or consistent. The IRS classifies cryptos as property, for instance, subjecting it to capital-gains tax. The CFTC said in 2015 that virtual currencies should be “properly defined as commodities.” Banks, for their part, are now allowed to custody cryptos, conduct banking in stablecoins, and participate in blockchain networks under guidelines from the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency.</p>\n<p>But prices for Bitcoin and other cryptos are likely to stay volatile. Only a small fraction of the Bitcoin supply actually trades on exchanges or other platforms—most of it is kept off the market by long-term “hodlers.” That makes the price volatile and act like a thinly traded stock.</p>\n<p>“How bubbly is this market? I think it’s very bubbly,” says Carmen Reinhart, chief economist of the World Bank. “It’s low liquidity and it may not take any melodrama in a thin market to reverse most or all of the price gains we’ve seen.”</p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Bitcoin’s use cases are also compelling, she notes, particularly in countries like Venezuela and Lebanon, where hyperinflation and capital controls incentivize the use of unregulated digital currencies.</p>\n<p>“If you want to get money out of Lebanon or any country where you’re concerned about its future prospects—whether it’s inflation, confiscation, or anything else—crypto is a way of transferring [money], a vehicle for capital flight,” she says.</p>\n<p>As for the price, investors should buckle up. “We have to expect huge price volatility,” Reinhart says. “But does this mean we’ll see a crash from which it doesn’t recover? Piper Sandler issued a 30-page report on Thursday, noting that the “crypto-economy could be entering a pivotal point in its development/lifecycle.”\nCoinbase Global, the largest U.S. crypto exchange and custodian, says it plans to go public on April 14 in what may be the largest tech IPO since Facebook(ticker: FB) in 2012. Private valuations peg Coinbase at $68 billion. The firm custodies an estimated $90 billion in crypto assets on its platform. It had revenue of $1.3 billion in 2020 and profits of $322 million, according to a regulatory filing.\nFintechs see Bitcoin and other cryptos as a vast new market for payments and transaction services.Visasays it plans to settle transactions in a “stablecoin,” USD Coin (USDC). Let’s take a closer look at the chart to see what the damage is.</p>\n<p><b>Trading AMD</b></p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c1746940036301b9d0299b9304312180\" tg-width=\"1070\" tg-height=\"736\"><span>Daily chart of AMD stock.</span></p>\n<p>Earlier in the year, AMD looked set to test $100 and potentially break out over this mark.</p>\n<p>Instead, it kept finding sellers on each rally, even as the $87 level was acting as support along with the 100-day moving average.</p>\n<p>Ultimately these levels failed as support, with shares flushing down to the 200-day moving average.</p>\n<p>It wasn’t necessarily wrong for investors to expect the 200-day moving average to be support. However, with rising interest rates driving the narrative, tech stocks were under heavy pressure.</p>\n<p>Once this level failed for AMD, it looked dicey. That is, unless you were looking at multiple timeframes.</p>\n<p>AMD stock traded down perfectly to range support near $74, as well as the 50-week moving average. It bounced from this level on Friday March 5th and closed at it on Monday March 8th. Since then, it’s been enjoying a strong rally.</p>\n<p>From here, we have to see how the stock handles its 100-day moving average and the $87 level. These prior measures were support. If they are reclaimed, they can again act as support.</p>\n<p>However, if they are resistance, AMD stock may need more time to consolidate.</p>\n<p>On the downside, let’s see if shares can stay above the 200-day moving average. If the stock can do so, it’s likely a buyable dip. Below it puts the 50-week moving average in play.</p>\n<p>Even though I don't know if $78 or $88 is next, I like AMD stock for the long term. In particular, shares of<b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MELI\">MercadoLibre</a></b>(NASDAQ: MELI),<b>Okta</b>(NASDAQ: OKTA), and<b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> Holdings</b>(NASDAQ: PYPL)are outpacing the Nasdaq's gains and aiming to bounce back fully from their setbacks in late February and earlier this month.</p><p><b>MercadoLibre's back in business</b></p><p>Less than a week ago, shares of MercadoLibre were down as much as 30% from their highs from earlier this year. Yet they've bounced back considerably, with today's nearly 10% gain helping to claw back lost ground.</p><p>The Latin American e-commerce specialist got a vote of confidence from analysts at BTIG on Thursday. They upgraded the stock from neutral to buy and set a price target of $1,720 per share. That provides MercadoLibre with additional upside of another 10% even from this afternoon's elevated price levels.</p><p>BTIG likes the strategy that MercadoLibre has been following, especially given the way that it has been able to add in ancillary services to its core e-commerce marketplace. The Mercado Pago payment network has been a hit all on its own, and it's generating considerable traffic from outside the MercadoLibre ecosystem. It also appears that the company is gaining market share overall from other players in the key Brazilian market.</p><p><b>Investors might like Okta's big buy after all</b></p><p>Shares of Okta were up 8%, continuing an advance that has taken the cyber-identity specialist's stock up about 20% from its recent lows. The stock was down as much as 30%, but fundamentally, Okta looks like it's doing things right.</p><p>The company originally lost ground when it reported fourth-quarter financial results last week. Despite year-over-year revenue gains of 40% and a modest profit for the period, investors weren't sure how to take guidance that suggested somewhat slower revenue growth and a possible loss.</p><p>Also raising a few questions wasOkta's $6.5 billion acquisition bidfor privately held Auth0, which focuses on customer identity management. That's a growth area, and some have said that the Auth0 product actually has some advantages over Okta's competing offering that made a buyout a win-win for Okta. Yet when the market was losing faith in growth stocks, it seemed like an ill-timed foray.</p><p>It's clear, though, that Okta isn't going to have any shortage of clients looking for identity verification services. That awareness is lifting the stock once again, and it could help build more momentum for Okta in the long run.</p><p><b>Paying the piper</b></p><p>Lastly, shares of PayPal Holdings gained about 5%. The payment network specialist has taken a 25% hit, but it's rising on a number of strategic moves.</p><p>First,PayPal recently finalized its agreement to buy Curv, a cryptocurrency security company. Crypto has been a big business for PayPal since late last year, when it started offering select tokens through its app. With crypto prices back near record levels, investors are excited about the potential for PayPal to keep competing effectively in the space.</p><p>Meanwhile, PayPal has also embraced efforts to allow customers to make purchases using short-term installment plans, breaking up purchase prices into four payments. PayPal'sPay in 4service isn't the only <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> in the business, but it represents the company's competitive entry into the space. Together, all these factors are making people feel good about PayPal once again.</p><p><b>Ride the wave</b></p><p>Volatility is hard to endure, but selling at lows rarely works out. On Thursday, though, things seemed to be turning around. In particular, shares ofMercadoLibre(NASDAQ: MELI),Okta(NASDAQ: OKTA), andPayPal Holdings(NASDAQ: PYPL)are outpacing the Nasdaq's gains and aiming to bounce back fully from their setbacks in late February and earlier this month.MercadoLibre's back in businessLess than a week ago, shares of MercadoLibre were down as much as 30% from their highs from earlier this year. Yet they've bounced back considerably, with today's nearly 10% gain helping to claw back lost ground.The Latin American e-commerce specialist got a vote of confidence from analysts at BTIG on Thursday. They upgraded the stock from neutral to buy and set a price target of $1,720 per share. That provides MercadoLibre with additional upside of another 10% even from this afternoon's elevated price levels.BTIG likes the strategy that MercadoLibre has been following, especially given the way that it has been able to add in ancillary services to its core e-commerce marketplace. The Mercado Pago payment network has been a hit all on its own, and it's generating considerable traffic from outside the MercadoLibre ecosystem. It also appears that the company is gaining market share overall from other players in the key Brazilian market.Investors might like Okta's big buy after allShares of Okta were up 8%, continuing an advance that has taken the cyber-identity specialist's stock up about 20% from its recent lows. The stock was down as much as 30%, but fundamentally, Okta looks like it's doing things right.The company originally lost ground when it reported fourth-quarter financial results last week. Despite year-over-year revenue gains of 40% and a modest profit for the period, investors weren't sure how to take guidance that suggested somewhat slower revenue growth and a possible loss.Also raising a few questions wasOkta's $6.5 billion acquisition bidfor privately held Auth0, which focuses on customer identity management. That's a growth area, and some have said that the Auth0 product actually has some advantages over Okta's competing offering that made a buyout a win-win for Okta. Armstrong owns 11% of the Class A shares and 22% of the Class B shares, while Ehrsam owns 11.4% of the Class A and 9% of the Class B.</p>\n<p>According to Forbes, Armstrong’s networth is currently $6.5 billion based on his ownership in the company, which is likely to increase if the direct listing goes off successfully.</p>\n<p>Coinbase bills itself as a bet on the rapidly growing cryptoeconomy, which starts with the No. 1 crypto asset bitcoin but goes well beyond that, Armstrong and company argue.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/67e611f71f8557b80e1863da93d753c9\" tg-width=\"1260\" tg-height=\"639\"><span>COINBASE S-1</span></p>\n<p>Bitcoin prices&nbsp;have gained attention as it has soared to repeated records, most recently touching a recent peak above $58,000 over the weekend before beginning to give up some gains in recent trade.</p>\n<p>Last week, bitcoin hit a market value of $1 trillion and even though the asset created by a person or persons known as Satoshi Nakamoto represents about 70% of the total crypto market, there are still a number of other popular crypto assets trading on Coinbase, including ether&nbsp;on Ethereum’s blockchain, Bitcoin Cash&nbsp;and Litecoin,to name a few.</p>\n<p><b>Who else owns Coinbase?</b></p>\n<p>Venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, is the largest owner of Coinbase, boasting about 25% of Class A shares and14% of Class B. And Marc Andreessen, head of the venture capital outfit, sits on Coinbase’s board.</p>\n<p>Coinbase has an ambitions echo those of Robinhood Markets</p>\n<p>“Coinbase is company with an ambitious vision: to create more economic freedom for every person and business,” Armstrong wrote in a letter appended to the company’s public-filing paperwork with the SEC.</p>\n<p><b>Biggest risk factor</b></p>\n<p>No doubt the biggest risk factor in Coinbase is that it is a bet on an unproven asset class that was created just over a decade ago. Coinbase attempts to make it clear that its fate is linked to the prospects for Bitcoin and ethereum and the thousands of other alternative coins that have been written into existence.</p>\n<p>But a decline in interest and tough regulations in the U.S. and elsewhere could wallop the exchange platform.</p>\n<p>Here’s now Coinbase explains it:</p>\n<p>“<i>There is no assurance that any supported crypto asset will maintain its value or that there will be meaningful levels of trading activities. In the event that the price of crypto assets or the demand for trading crypto assets decline, our business, operating results, and financial condition would be adversely affected. A majority of our net revenue is from transactions in Bitcoin and ethereum. If demand for these crypto assets declines and is not replaced by new demand for crypto assets, our business, operating results, and financial condition could be adversely affected</i>,” Coinbase writes in its S-1 filing.</p>\n<p><b>How large is Coinbase?</b></p>\n<p>The crypto exchange platform ranks No. 3 among the largest digital asset exchanges in the world, according to data site CoinMarketCap.com. But it is another sign of the voracious appetite for risk that has gripped markets in the wake of unprecedented stimulus from the Federal Reserve, expectations of another fiscal package from lawmakers and a rally that has boosted the S&amp;P 500 Index about 80% from its March lows.</p>\n<p>In recent weeks, investors looking to capitalize on the sharp rise in the PHLX Semiconductor index have poured money into the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares, which seeks to amplify daily moves in the chip index threefold.</p>\n<p>The fund is up about 1,000% over the last 11 months compared with a rally of about 150% in the chip index. It has logged inflows for five straight weeks, the longest such stretch since April, helping boost its assets to a record $3.27 billion.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, assets in the ProShares Ultra VIX Short Term Futures ETF, which provides leveraged exposure to short-term volatility futures, hit a record $2.5 billion on Friday, up about 50% since Feb. 3.</p>\n<p>Another leveraged ETF, the ProShares UltraPro QQQ which targets 3X the one-day return on the Nasdaq 100 Index, has nearly doubled its assets over the last 9 months to $11.13 billion, according to data from ProShares.</p>\n<p>The inflows to these funds come amid signs that investors are becoming increasingly willing to take risks, less than a year since a COVID-19 driven sell-off lopped about a third off the S&amp;P 500 Index.</p>\n<p>Although these ETPs are leveraged, investors risk only the amount they invested, unless they bought on margin. Still, when the market moves against some of these trades, the losses can be quick and staggering.The latest fund manager survey by BofA Global Research showed cash allocations down to their lowest level since March 2013, allocations to stocks and commodities at their highest level in around a decade and a record in the net percentage of investors taking higher-than-normal risk.</p>\n<p>“Investors are seeing volatility and looking to participate from a short-term perspective,” said Todd Rosenbluth, director of ETF and mutual fund research at CFRA, referring to flows into leveraged and inverse ETPs.</p>\n<p>ETPs track an underlying security, index, or financial instrument and trade on exchanges like stocks. Exchange traded funds, which contain investments that can include stocks and bonds, are the most popular type of ETPs.</p>\n<p>Analysts caution that leveraged and inverse ETPs, many of which are extremely volatile, are designed to be used as quick in-and-out trading vehicles, not as buy-and-hold securities.</p>\n<p>Long-term holding of some of these ETPs can rack up significant losses. Armstrong owns 11% of the Class A shares and 22% of the Class B shares, while Ehrsam owns 11.4% of the Class A and 9% of the Class B.</p>\n<p>According to Forbes, Armstrong’s networth is currently $6.5 billion based on his ownership in the company, which is likely to increase if the direct listing goes off successfully.</p>\n<p>Coinbase bills itself as a bet on the rapidly growing cryptoeconomy, which starts with the No. 1 crypto asset bitcoin but goes well beyond that, Armstrong and company argue.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/67e611f71f8557b80e1863da93d753c9\" tg-width=\"1260\" tg-height=\"639\"><span>COINBASE S-1</span></p>\n<p>Bitcoin prices&nbsp;have gained attention as it has soared to repeated records, most recently touching a recent peak above $58,000 over the weekend before beginning to give up some gains in recent trade.</p>\n<p>Last week, bitcoin hit a market value of $1 trillion and even though the asset created by a person or persons known as Satoshi Nakamoto represents about 70% of the total crypto market, there are still a number of other popular crypto assets trading on Coinbase, including ether&nbsp;on Ethereum’s blockchain, Bitcoin Cash&nbsp;and Litecoin,to name a few.</p>\n<p><b>Who else owns Coinbase?</b></p>\n<p>Venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, is the largest owner of Coinbase, boasting about 25% of Class A shares and14% of Class B. And Marc Andreessen, head of the venture capital outfit, sits on Coinbase’s board.</p>\n<p>Coinbase has an ambitions echo those of Robinhood Markets</p>\n<p>“Coinbase is company with an ambitious vision: to create more economic freedom for every person and business,” Armstrong wrote in a letter appended to the company’s public-filing paperwork with the SEC.</p>\n<p><b>Biggest risk factor</b></p>\n<p>No doubt the biggest risk factor in Coinbase is that it is a bet on an unproven asset class that was created just over a decade ago. Coinbase attempts to make it clear that its fate is linked to the prospects for Bitcoin and ethereum and the thousands of other alternative coins that have been written into existence.</p>\n<p>But a decline in interest and tough regulations in the U.S. and elsewhere could wallop the exchange platform.</p>\n<p>Here’s now Coinbase explains it:</p>\n<p>“<i>There is no assurance that any supported crypto asset will maintain its value or that there will be meaningful levels of trading activities. In the event that the price of crypto assets or the demand for trading crypto assets decline, our business, operating results, and financial condition would be adversely affected. If demand for these crypto assets declines and is not replaced by new demand for crypto assets, our business, operating results, and financial condition could be adversely affected</i>,” Coinbase writes in its S-1 filing.</p>\n<p><b>How large is Coinbase?</b></p>\n<p>The crypto exchange platform ranks No. 3 among the largest digital asset exchanges in the world, according to data site CoinMarketCap.com. That ranking puts it behind Binance, based in Seattle and Huobi Global, a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange that was founded in China.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/183f3996adecd36a47a1b191cf6d3ca6\" tg-width=\"1260\" tg-height=\"453\"><span>COINMARKETCAP.COM</span></p>\n<p>In the U.S. Coinbase is by far the most well-known crypto platform but there are competitors, including Gemini, run by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, who famously used their Facebook Inc.&nbsp;settlements to invest in bitcoins.</p>\n<p>Kraken is another popular crypto platform and direct competitor in the U.S.</p>\n<p><b>Odds &amp; Ends</b></p>\n<p>The company in its public filing offered a number of homages to the founder or founders of bitcoin and the digital currency age in its submission.</p>\n<p>For example, it listed the genesis block associated with Satoshi Nakamoto at “1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa,” whose white paper back in 2008 set bitcoin in motion. (Additionally, a “Satoshi” is the smallest unit of bitcoin—0.00000001 BTC).</p>\n<p>The company offers no physical address for its headquarters in California, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced a number of companies to have most, if not all, of its staffers work remotely. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were flat.First-time filings for unemployment insurance in the week ended Feb. 27 totaled 745,000, a touch below the Dow Jones estimate of 750,000,the Labor Department reported Thursday.Investors also awaited a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who is set to join The Wall Street Journal Jobs Summit to talk about the economy later Thursday.Treasury yields, which have been keeping investors on edge in recent weeks, edged up once again. The benchmark10-year Treasury yieldtraded slightly higher at 1.47%. Last week, the rate soared to a high of 1.6% in a sudden move that sparked a big sell-off in stocks.Stocks posted heavy losses during Wednesday’s regular trading as rising bond yields spooked investors. The S&P 500 dipped 1.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 119 points, or 0.38%, lower. The Nasdaq Composite was the relative underperformer, falling 2.7% as tech names declined.
