Note","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1131743000","media":"Zacks","summary":"Walmart Inc. is likely to continue with its solid trend and witness a rise in the top and bottom lin","content":"
Walmart Inc. is likely to continue with its solid trend and witness a rise in the top and bottom lines when it reports fourth-quarter fiscal 2021 numbers on Feb 18, before market open. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings has increased 2% in the past 30 days to $1.50 per share, which also indicates growth of 8.7% rise from the figure reported in the prior-year period. Markedly, Walmart delivered an earnings surprise of 12.6% in the last reported quarter. Further, the supermarket giant has a trailing four-quarter earnings surprise of 11.1%, on average.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $146.4 billion, suggesting an increase of 3.4% from the prior-year quarter’s reported figure. However, it looks like the rate of sales growth will decelerate on a sequential basis. The company had witnessed an increase of 5.2% in the last reported quarter.

Key Factors to Note

Walmart has been benefiting from burgeoning demand amid coronavirus-led elevated at-home consumption as well as stock hoarding. Further, higher stay-at-home trends are boosting the company’s e-commerce sales. The company, on its third-quarter earnings call, said that it has doubled the U.S. store associate count this year, supporting the company’s digital and omnichannel efforts. Certainly, Walmart’s combination of a robust store network and growing digital capacity bodes well.

Incidentally, Walmart has been taking robust strides to strengthen its delivery arm, especially amid the pandemic-led increased demand. This is evident from the company’s launch of the Walmart+ membership program; drone delivery pilots in the United States with Flytrex, Zipline and DroneUp; and a pilot with Cruise to test grocery delivery through self-driven all-electric cars. Walmart also unveiled an alliance with Door Dash in the third quarter to deliver prescriptions from pharmacies of Sam’s Club, alongside expanding Scan & Go to all fuel stations at U.S. Sam’s Clubs. Prior to this, Walmart unveiled Express Delivery during the first quarter at several stores, which helps it deliver orders to customers in less than two hours. As of the fiscal third quarter, Walmart U.S. had 3,600 pickup locations and 2,900 same-day delivery locations.

These factors have been boosting Walmart’s e-commerce business, which along with its solid efforts to bolster store sales helped its U.S. comp sales to increase for the 25th straight time in the last reported quarter. We note that the big-box retailer has been undertaking several efforts to enhance merchandise assortments and it has also been focused on store remodeling, to upgrade them with advanced in-store and digital innovation. Apart from these, the company’s unique deals and saving events, along with other initiatives to make the most of consumers’ evolving shopping needs and the holiday season are likely to have yielded results.

That being said, we cannot ignore the impact of the company’s pricing investments on margins. The company had witnessed an increase of 5.2% in the last reported quarter.Key Factors to NoteWalmart has been benefiting from burgeoning demand amid coronavirus-led elevated at-home consumption as well as stock hoarding. Further, higher stay-at-home trends are boosting the company’s e-commerce sales. The company, on its third-quarter earnings call, said that it has doubled the U.S. store associate count this year, supporting the company’s digital and omnichannel efforts. Certainly, Walmart’s combination of a robust store network and growing digital capacity bodes well.Incidentally, Walmart has been taking robust strides to strengthen its delivery arm, especially amid the pandemic-led increased demand. Also, the company has been seeing high costs related to COVID-19, like higher wages and benefits along with costs associated with sanitization and other safety measures. The company incurred roughly $600 million as additional costs related to COVID-19 in the third quarter of fiscal 2021. In the past week, it has turned into a flood, helping to push the price of Bitcoin to a record of $48,297 on Thursday.

The most buzzworthy move came from Tesla (ticker: TSLA), which disclosed on Monday that it hasbought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcointo hold on its balance sheet. The company plans to let consumers use the currency to pay for cars.

But Tesla isn’t the only one. On Thursday, BNY Mellon (BK), the oldest bank in the U.S.,said it will hold and transfer cryptocurrencies for customers. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.

Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. The payments will be converted to traditional money before it enters the companies’ systems.Twitter(TWTR) is also considering a Bitcoin investment. And Square (SQ) has already put some on its balance sheet, as well as given users of its Cash App access to buy the cryptocurrency.

Why is this happening now? Cryptocurrencies are still not particularly useful outside of a very few cases, such as cross-border transactions. Even there, they haven’t fully taken hold.

There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.

One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.

Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.

Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.

Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.

Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.

And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.

A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.

A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. So-called stablecoins, whose value is meant to track fiat currencies, could allow for faster transactions for some kinds of financial services, for instance.

Visa(V) andMasterCardseem like the last places in the world that Bitcoin would take hold given that Bitcoin was created to eliminate the middlemen in finance. Few companies fill the role of middleman as perfectly as the credit-card processors. Visa, however, thinks that cryptocurrencies are useful for many other purposes, and its trusted brand makes it an important player, according to Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto at the company.

“We’ve seen growing demand from clients across the world that want to be able to plug in and use these networks, but they want a global, neutral, trusted brand, to help them be able to do that,” Sheffield said in an interview. Visa said last week it has created software that allows bank customers to buy and hold cryptocurrencies through lenders’ websites.

Will old-line financial companies be the biggest beneficiaries of the crypto “revolution”? Michael Venuto, the chief investment officer of Toroso Investments, doesn’t think it will be easy for them to dominate this new world. “Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field,” said Roman Regelman, the bank’s CEO of asset servicing and head of digital.Mastercard (MA) said on Wednesday that it will let merchants accept some cryptocurrencies through its network later this year. There are at least four big reasons corporations are diving in.One is that some company founders believe in Bitcoin. Their excitement about the asset has convinced them that their companies need to be involved, or have cryptocurrency investments, even if Bitcoin isn’t really the core of their operations. That appears to be the case for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, and for a software company calledMicrostrategyand its CEO, Michael Saylor.Microstrategy, whose entire market capitalization was below $1 billion early last year, now owns more than $2 billion of Bitcoin, and its market cap is now just under $10 billion. Saylor toldBarron’s in an interview last yearthat he sees Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement and inflation.Square CEO Jack Dorsey ‘s fascination with Bitcoin also likely sped Square’s adoption. He has spoken about his interest in the currency for years.Tesla’s purchase of Bitcoin is strong marketing for the company and the currency, said Dan Morehead, founder of the crypto hedge fund Pantera Capital. But it won’t likely change the way Bitcoin is used. “Tesla sells a half a million cars a year,” he said. “If they sold 4% in Bitcoin, I’d be surprised.” Morehead thinks Bitoin’s growing use for cross-border payments is much more exciting from a practical perspective.Other companies are getting into Bitcoin because of customer demand. That appears to be the case for BNY Mellon, which is not known for making risky bets on new technologies. It could stay out of the industry altogether, but more institutional investors are buying Bitcoin and need somewhere to put it.And the infrastructure around Bitcoin has grown, so that it now more closely resembles the systems used in the rest of the world of finance.. Big companies now insure cryptocurrencies or—as in the case ofJPMorgan Chase(JPM)—offer services to cryptocurrency businesses, even if most still don’t hold Bitcoin on their own balance sheets.A third reason is increasing government acceptance of the trend. BNY cited greater regulatory clarity around Bitcoin as one reason it is diving in. The U.S. government has taken a mostly laissez-faire approach to regulating digital assets even as many of the illegal activities that cryptocurrency has been associated with in the past have continued. Without at least the tacit approval of regulators, crypto couldn’t have landed on the balance sheets of so many companies.A fourth reason cryptocurrencies are gaining hold in corporate boardrooms is that they serve multiple purposes. That gives corporations several different rationales to hold the coins, or offer related services. Cryptocurrencies have the potential to go well beyond Bitcoin’s initial premise as a way to send money without financial intermediaries. So-called stablecoins, whose value is meant to track fiat currencies, could allow for faster transactions for some kinds of financial services, for instance.Visa(V) andMasterCardseem like the last places in the world that Bitcoin would take hold given that Bitcoin was created to eliminate the middlemen in finance. Few companies fill the role of middleman as perfectly as the credit-card processors. Visa, however, thinks that cryptocurrencies are useful for many other purposes, and its trusted brand makes it an important player, according to Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto at the company.“We’ve seen growing demand from clients across the world that want to be able to plug in and use these networks, but they want a global, neutral, trusted brand, to help them be able to do that,” Sheffield said in an interview. Toroso created theAmplify Transformational Data SharingETF (ticker: BLOK), which invests in public companies involved in the technology behind Bitcoin.“In terms of the self-referenced paradox of the old economy accepting the blockchain, it is simply inevitable,” Venuto wrote in an email toBarron’s. “If they don’t explore the blockchain they will be extinct. 84% of whom said they would trust a robot over themselves to look after their money and 83% of whom rated machines’ abilities over their own finance teams.\nRobots on the rise\nThe “Money & Machine” study — which was part of a wider global report — surveyed more than 2,500 consumers and business leaders across Asia-Pacific, namely in Australia, China, India, Japan and Singapore, to determine how people’s relationship with money had changed under the pandemic.\nRespondents in Japan, China and India were most convinced by robots’ abilities of all the 14 countries surveyed globally. Meanwhile, those in Australia (55%) were the most skeptical within Asia-Pacific.\nRobots were preferred across a range of capabilities, including their perceived ability to free up spare time (38%), detect fraud (36%) and reduce unnecessary spending (34%).\nHowever, they lagged behind on their apparent investing abilities, with just 11% of respondents citing robots’ stock buying abilities after the pandemic sparked a surge in do-it-yourself trades among retail investors.\n“There is no precedence to the impacts of the pandemic and uncertainty of this scale, with both business leaders and consumers looking for trusted use cases when trusting robots,” Guruprasad Gaonkar, global go-to-market lead for Oracle’s ERP Cloud Business said, suggesting that robots so far lack the track record to deal with the market fluctuations experienced under the pandemic.\nShifting financial habits\nThe report also highlights a wider shift in financial habits under the pandemic. Of those surveyed, 74% of consumers said the events of 2020 have changed the way they now think about physical cash, while 64% said it has changed the way they buy goods and services.\nOverall, nearly half (49%) of Asia-Pacific respondents said they believe robots will replace personal financial advisors within the next five years. Again, that figure was higher in China (63%).\n“The role of finance teams and financial advisors will never be the same,” Gaonkar said. “90% of business leaders believe robots will replace finance professionals, and almost two-thirds (62%) believe it will happen within the next five years (by 2025).”\nEven so, most consumers said they would still prefer to consult a personal financial advisor for guidance on major purchasing decisions, such as buying a house (37%), buying a car (34%) and planning a vacation (33%).","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":15,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":383307493,"gmtCreate":1612835354112,"gmtModify":1704874783059,"author":{"id":"3573219648552108","authorId":"3573219648552108","name":"JJ96","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6bab817cdee49776fcde0fdd63f7490d","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573219648552108","authorIdStr":"3573219648552108"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"good","listText":"good","text":"good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/383307493","repostId":"1193450954","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193450954","pubTimestamp":1612782273,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1193450954?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-08 19:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Carmakers have been hit hard by a global chip shortage — here’s why","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193450954","media":"cnbc","summary":"Demand for these chips has soared during the coronavirus pandemic as people snapped up games consoles, laptops and TVs to help get through lockdowns. Now, many of these products — including certain Chromebook laptops and next-generation consoles like the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 — are sold out, or subject to lengthy shipping times. It’s just one of a number of factors that has driven demand for semiconductors, but as supply struggles to keep up, it’s the chip-reliant car industry that h","content":"
\n
KEY POINTSDemand for these chips has soared during the coronavirus pandemic as people snapped up games consoles, laptops and TVs to help get through lockdowns. Now, many of these products — including ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Now, many of these products — including certain Chromebook laptops and next-generation consoles like the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 — are sold out, or subject to lengthy shipping times. It’s just one of a number of factors that has driven demand for semiconductors, but as supply struggles to keep up, it’s the chip-reliant car industry that has been hit especially hard.“We have seen in the short term, the automotive industry has been very adversely affected,” Bryce Johnstone, director of automotive segment marketing at chip designer Imagination Technologies, told CNBC via email. “This stems from their just-in-time production methodology and their incredibly complicated supply chains.”Carmakers uses semiconductors in everything from power steering and brake sensors, to entertainment systems and parking cameras. The smarter cars get, the more chips they use.“If the chip that powers the in-car dials or automatic braking are delayed, then so will the rest of the vehicle,” said Johnstone.Closed car plantsU.S. car giant General Motorsannounced last Wednesdaythat it is shutting three plants and slowing production at a fourth due to the semiconductor shortage. The Detroit car manufacturer said it could miss its 2021 targets as a result.“Despite our mitigation efforts, the semiconductor shortage will impact GM production in 2021,” a company spokesman said in a statement.“Semiconductor supply for the global auto industry remains very fluid,” they added. “Our supply chain organization is working closely with our supply base to find solutions for our suppliers’ semiconductor requirements and to mitigate impacts on GM.”Several other car manufacturers have also put production on hold in recent weeks. Honda U.K.’s main plant in Swindon wasshut down for several dayslast month due to a chip shortage, for example. Elsewhere, Ford and Volkswagen have also shut plants or cut production while they wait for supplies to pick up.Ford said in January that it wasshutting a factory in Germany for a month, while Volkswagen said in December it willmake 100,000 fewer carsthis quarter as a result of the shortage.Speaking about the chip shortage on a Davos panel on Jan. 25, VW CEO Herbert Diess said: “We have to make sure that the markets and supply chains remain intact.”Swings in demand; long lead timesFalan Yinug, director of industry statistics and economic policy at the Semiconductor Industry Association, says the chip shortage in the automotive industry is largely the result of substantial swings in demand due to the pandemic and the increased use of semiconductors in advanced vehicles.“The events leading to the current auto chip shortage began during the second quarter of 2020, when automakers understandably reduced production and chip purchases as the virus spread across the globe,” Yinug wrote ina bloglast Thursday. At the same time, chipmakers saw a pickup in demand for semiconductors used to support remote healthcare, work-at-home, and virtual learning, which were required during the pandemic, according to Yinug.“In the months that followed, demand for automotive semiconductors rallied much more quickly than most anticipated,” Yinug said.“The clear decrease in monthly year-over-year (YoY) sales growth for application-specific chips used in the automotive market was sudden and precipitous in March and April, when the pandemic was shuttering auto plants globally. Equally as pronounced was the rapid recovery in YoY sales during Q3 and Q4 (third and fourth quarters). In fact, monthly YoY Q4 sales had recovered to be positive again.”The semiconductor industry has been trying to ramp up production but Yinug said the supply-demand imbalance cannot be remedied with the flip of a switch.“Making a semiconductor is one of the most complex manufacturing processes,” he said. “Lead times of up to 26 weeks are the norm in the industry to produce a finished chip. Most industry analysts believe the current short-term supply shortage will ease in the coming months as supply adjusts to meet demand.”Cost conscious industryHermann Hauser, the co-founder of British chip designer Arm, told CNBC that the automotive industry has been hurt the most because it is “incredibly cost conscious.”“When the chip industry decides should we allocate our capacity to the car industry or the telecoms industry or the server industry, it’s an easy decision,” he said. “Go for the server industry because their gross margins are so much better. That’s why the car industry is in a particularly tight spot.”Hauser said there isn’t enough competition in the semiconductor manufacturing market, pointing to the fact that it has a very high Herfindahl–Hirschman index, which measures market concentration in a specific industry. It is calculated by squaring the market share of each company competing in a market and then adding the resulting numbers. For example, chip manufacturers have battled it out to build the smallest chips possible over the years, but only a couple of companies can create the new five nanometer (or 5nm) chips on a commercial level.“Samsung and TSMC are the only two semiconductor companies in the world that have a working 5nm process,” he said. “It’s just too high a concentration.”One of the reasons there are so few 5nm chip manufacturing plants is because they’re expensive, according to Hauser. Building something so small requires hi-tech equipment that isn’t cheap.Expanding factoriesNewport Wafer Fab in South Wales, Britain’s largest chip factory, raised over £50 million($68 million) in January to try and cash in on the global semiconductor supply shortage. It said it would use the funding to almost double the number of chip wafers — thin slices of a semiconductor — it makes from 8,000 to 14,000, according to The Telegraph newspaper. The company did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.Newport Wafer Fab Chairman Drew Nelson reportedly said demand had “absolutely skyrocketed” in the last three months, fueled by both the global shortage and the rise of electric cars.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":15,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":389674085,"gmtCreate":1612774544847,"gmtModify":1704873989598,"author":{"id":"3573219648552108","authorId":"3573219648552108","name":"JJ96","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6bab817cdee49776fcde0fdd63f7490d","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573219648552108","authorIdStr":"3573219648552108"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"yeah ","listText":"yeah ","text":"yeah","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/389674085","repostId":"1185714346","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185714346","pubTimestamp":1612774020,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185714346?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-08 16:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Ant Group’s potential move to restructure is a ‘step in right direction,’ research firm IDC says","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185714346","media":"cnbc","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nAnt has yet to comment on the matter but media reports said the proposed restructuring i","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nAnt has yet to comment on the matter but media reports said the proposed restructuring is expected to be announced before the Chinese New Year holiday, which kicks off later this week, on ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And most important , there would be questions around what exactly can Ant do moving forward,” he added, noting it will be “a long path to the ideal” but it will be a “step in the right direction.”\nAnt Group — an affiliate of China’s e-commerce giantAlibabaand was founded by Jack Ma — runs the popular mobile payments app Alipay in the country.\nOver the years, Ant has expanded into areas such as lending and wealth management. Regulators are concerned the company poses a systemic risk to the economy, and halted its $35 billion initial public offering last year— which would have been the world’s largest.\nThe reported overhaul is expected to subject Ant Group to stricter capital requirements, making it more like a bank than a technology company.\nThe move comes as the Chinese government intensifies efforts to increase supervision of China’s fast evolving fintech sector amid growing concerns over the pricing power that these large tech giants have over consumers.\n“It is a concern also acknowledged by Ant Group as well,” noted Araneta. “And there will be expectations and more clarity coming from the regulator about what can or cannot be done by these powerhouses in the platform world of technology.”\nHe said another critical factor surrounding regulation in China is over how much power these big tech firms would have on the market with regards to data privacy.\n“If you look at the one billion customers that they do have a lot of data on, what can they do with that kind of data? That is going to be a question moving forward, especially around data privacy,” he said. “And that’s something that Ant Group will be well-prepared to resolve as well.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":27,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":335734618,"gmtCreate":1610641352534,"gmtModify":1704985249381,"author":{"id":"3573219648552108","authorId":"3573219648552108","name":"JJ96","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6bab817cdee49776fcde0fdd63f7490d","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573219648552108","authorIdStr":"3573219648552108"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$GameStop(GME)$to the moon ????","listText":"$GameStop(GME)$to the moon ????","text":"$GameStop(GME)$to the moon ????","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/335734618","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":513,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3527667803686145","authorId":"3527667803686145","name":"社区成长助手","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2b7c7106b5c0c8b0037faa67439d898f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3527667803686145","authorIdStr":"3527667803686145"},"content":"Finally, when your initial post [Bixin] [Bixin] comes, I hope you can have a good time and earn a good time in Tiger Community! The enduring outbreak continues to crimp fuel consumption from China to the U.S., with the International Energy Agency cutting its demand forecast for 2021 and describing the market as fragile. The U.S. government earlier this week also predicted the nation’s petroleum demand will likely need much more time to recover.

Despite the bearish sentiment, oil is still set to eke out a weekly gain and some are optimistic on the longer term outlook, including the IEA. The market is tightening, traders such as Trafigura Group see prices moving higher, and Citigroup Inc. is predicting Brent crude may hit $70 a barrel by year-end.

Oil’s rapid rebound from the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this year after Saudi Arabia pledged to deepen output cuts. The enduring outbreak continues to crimp fuel consumption from China to the U.S., with the International Energy Agency cutting its demand forecast for 2021 and describing the market as fragile. The U.S. government earlier this week also predicted the nation’s petroleum demand will likely need much more time to recover.Despite the bearish sentiment, oil is still set to eke out a weekly gain and some are optimistic on the longer term outlook, including the IEA. The market is tightening, traders such as Trafigura Group see prices moving higher, and Citigroup Inc. is predicting Brent crude may hit $70 a barrel by year-end.Oil’s rapid rebound from the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this year after Saudi Arabia pledged to deepen output cuts. Prompt timespreads have firmed in a bullish backwardation structure, helping to unwind bloated stockpiles held in onshore tanks and on ships that swelled during the outbreak. While the recent eight-day rally pushed oil prices to the highest level in a year, it also sent crude’s 14-day Relative Strength Index firmly into overbought territory, signaling a correction was due.“It was a long, uninterrupted rally that had to take a breather,” said Vandana Hari, founder of consultancy Vanda Insights. “The next leg up in prices may need reassurance that OPEC+ do not proceed to open the spigots from April.”The IEA cut its forecast for world oil consumption in 2021 by 200,000 barrels a day, according to a report released on Thursday. The Chapter 15 Petition seeks, among other things, recognition in the United States of the Company’s provisional liquidation pending before the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands (the “Cayman Court”), Financial Services Division, Cause No. 157 of 2020 (ASCJ) (the “Cayman Proceeding”)1and related relief.\nThe Company is negotiating with its stakeholders regarding the restructuring of the Company’s financial obligations, to strengthen the Company’s balance sheet and enable it to emerge from the Cayman Proceeding as a going concern, for the benefit of all stakeholders.
