As per reports from S&P Global, EV sales in China could reach 1.8 million units this year, which is a 40% rise from the previous year. It could reach 6 million in sales by 2025.
\n
Government support in the form of incentives has been a major driver for the growth of EV sector. EV stocks have been on the rise andNiohas made a strong impact on the industry.
\n
Investor interest in EV companies has surged over the past year. After a strong upside, Nio stock has shown volatility in the past few months. The stock gained 1,900% and hit an all-time high in January at $66. It is currently trading at about $44.
\n
This dip is an ideal opportunity to add the stock to your portfolio. Let us take a look at the investment case for NIO stock.
\n
Nio Offers a Lot More Than Cars
\n
Earlier in the year, Nio introduced the ET7 luxury sedan that will be available in 2022. The sedan has impressive features including an autonomous driving sensor and digital entry system.
\n
The sedan can take the company to another level. Nio is focusing on the largest passenger car market segment and it is working to gain a competitive edge with ET7. The car will come with batteries that can power a vehicle for 1,000 kilometers. This feature will be able to win the market segment that values long-distance performance.
\n
Investors are already piling up on NIO stock for the strong delivery numbers and impressive Q4 results. Although the company is not profitable yet, there is so much going right for it. It is also planning to expand in Europe this year. Interestingly, Nio is not only focusing on reaching new vehicle sales numbers but is also working on its services and software.
\n
Besides the EVs, what sets NIO apart from its competitors is the battery swap program. Through this program, customers can recharge through a faster battery exchange. The company has automatic swap stations that take about three minutes to fully charge the battery. The stations can swap up to 312 batteries in a day.
\n
Nio has more than 170 battery stations and it intends to install more than 500 stations in China by the end of this year. It will strengthen the position of the EV maker in the industry.
\n
Nio vehicle owners get a complete experience with the battery swap service. It already places Nio as a premium brand in the market. With strong delivery numbers and expansion in new geographical markets, Nio is poised for growth.
\n
Wall Street Loves NIO Stock
\n
NIO stock is a favorite with the Wall Street. Recently, Japanese firm Mizuho signaled a buy for NIO stock with a price target of $60. The firm stated that it saw strong upside for the stock as a growth leader in China.
\n
Deutsche Bank analysts reiterated the stock price prediction of $70 after the company reported Q4 earnings.
\n
Additionally, Nio is planning to list shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange this year. The company plans to see 5% of the share capital through the listing and this could raise about $5 billion.
\n
Further, out of 10 analysts on Tipranks, seven have a buy rating and three have a hold rating with a consensus price target of $65.24, which is a 46% upside from the current levels.
\n
The Bottom Line
\n
Despite the pandemic and the current downside on the stock, it looks promising for the long run. As per reports from S&P Global, EV sales in China could reach 1.8 million units this year, which is a 40% rise from the previous year. It could reach 6 million in sales by 2025.\nGovernment support in the form of incentives has been a major driver for the growth of EV sector. EV stocks have been on the rise andNiohas made a strong impact on the industry.\nInvestor interest in EV companies has surged over the past year. After a strong upside, Nio stock has shown volatility in the past few months. The stock gained 1,900% and hit an all-time high in January at $66. It is currently trading at about $44.\nThis dip is an ideal opportunity to add the stock to your portfolio. Let us take a look at the investment case for NIO stock.\nNio Offers a Lot More Than Cars\nEarlier in the year, Nio introduced the ET7 luxury sedan that will be available in 2022. The sedan has impressive features including an autonomous driving sensor and digital entry system.\nThe sedan can take the company to another level. Nio is focusing on the largest passenger car market segment and it is working to gain a competitive edge with ET7. The car will come with batteries that can power a vehicle for 1,000 kilometers. This feature will be able to win the market segment that values long-distance performance.\nInvestors are already piling up on NIO stock for the strong delivery numbers and impressive Q4 results. Although the company is not profitable yet, there is so much going right for it. It is also planning to expand in Europe this year. Interestingly, Nio is not only focusing on reaching new vehicle sales numbers but is also working on its services and software.\nBesides the EVs, what sets NIO apart from its competitors is the battery swap program. Through this program, customers can recharge through a faster battery exchange. The company has automatic swap stations that take about three minutes to fully charge the battery. The stations can swap up to 312 batteries in a day.\nNio has more than 170 battery stations and it intends to install more than 500 stations in China by the end of this year. It will strengthen the position of the EV maker in the industry.\nNio vehicle owners get a complete experience with the battery swap service. It already places Nio as a premium brand in the market. With strong delivery numbers and expansion in new geographical markets, Nio is poised for growth.\nWall Street Loves NIO Stock\nNIO stock is a favorite with the Wall Street. Recently, Japanese firm Mizuho signaled a buy for NIO stock with a price target of $60. The firm stated that it saw strong upside for the stock as a growth leader in China.\nDeutsche Bank analysts reiterated the stock price prediction of $70 after the company reported Q4 earnings.\nAdditionally, Nio is planning to list shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange this year. The company plans to see 5% of the share capital through the listing and this could raise about $5 billion.\nFurther, out of 10 analysts on Tipranks, seven have a buy rating and three have a hold rating with a consensus price target of $65.24, which is a 46% upside from the current levels.\nThe Bottom Line\nDespite the pandemic and the current downside on the stock, it looks promising for the long run. Investors are mostly keen on the fundamentals and value of the company. With regard to these aspects, Nio is certainly going strong and has impressive long-term prospects.\nNIO stock could reach its $60 level in the coming months. If you want to add it to your portfolio for long-term gains, now is the best time to make the move.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":332,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":327924877,"gmtCreate":1616053084199,"gmtModify":1704790249759,"author":{"id":"3573607919761122","authorId":"3573607919761122","name":"Huifen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d6bd2814e5f11f991de0ed780343b74","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573607919761122","authorIdStr":"3573607919761122"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/327924877","repostId":"2120004158","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":738,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":322795020,"gmtCreate":1615824977960,"gmtModify":1704787213967,"author":{"id":"3573607919761122","authorId":"3573607919761122","name":"Huifen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d6bd2814e5f11f991de0ed780343b74","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573607919761122","authorIdStr":"3573607919761122"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a A new launch date has not been set, but Ong said authorities from both sides have been in touch.\n“As you know, the agreement has been signed, concluded. We’re making a few tweaks, a few proposals to tighten it,” the minister told CNBC’s“Squawk Box Asia”on Thursday.\n“But I think the key consideration now is this is shortly after Chinese New Year and both sides are being cautious. We want to watch if there’s any impact due to Chinese New Year on community transmission,” he added.\nThe Lunar New Year festivities took place last month. Celebrations typically involve gatherings and visiting the homes of family and friends — events that were scaled down in many countries this year due to the pandemic.\nOng said there appears to be no sign of increased Covid transmission following the festivities.\nIn Singapore, new daily cases have remained low, with no community infections on most days, he said. As of Wednesday, the country has reported more than 60,000 confirmed cases and 29 deaths since the outbreak began, health ministry data showed.\nOver in Hong Kong, the number of daily new cases has also come down from a recent peak in January. As of Wednesday, the city has reported more than 11,000 confirmed and probable Covid cases and 203 deaths, official data showed.\nBoth Singapore and Hong Kong are major Asian business hubs that don’t have domestic air travel markets. Their tourism and aviation industries, heavily reliant on international travel, have been badly hit by the pandemic.\nPandemic control still key to reopening\nIn addition to Hong Kong, Singapore is keen to establish “travel bubble” arrangements with other places, said Ong, who’s predicting “some recovery” in aviation this year.\n“What is in our favor is vaccination. What is not in our favor is mutations and variants that are more transmissible and may not respond to the vaccination. So you got this opposing forces, and I think that is the nature of this battle, it keeps throwing you curveballs,” said the minister.\n“But notwithstanding that, I think vaccination is a big gamechanger and some time this year we hope to see some recovery. And when we look at recovery, I think air travel bubble is a major plank for us to work on,” he added.\nVaccination rates will not be the only consideration for Singapore in opening its borders, said Ong. He added that the track record of countries and territories, when it comes to pandemic control, is a more important factor.\nThe minister pointed out that even before vaccinations were underway, Singapore was able to open up to some places that were considered “safe.”\nOver the past year, Singapore has allowed visitors from several places — including Australia, New Zealand, mainland China and Taiwan — to skip quarantine if they meet certain requirements, such as a negative Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon arrival.\nOng said around 1,000 such travelers enter Singapore each day without having to quarantine, and have not led to higher Covid transmission rates in the country so far.\n“We still need to take a country by country, bilateral approach,” he said.\n“As a place, as a territory or as a country, their infection control track record continues to be the key outcome that we need to look at. And if they’re successful, we should continue to open up to them and form air travel bubbles with them.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":184,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":367528968,"gmtCreate":1614958476754,"gmtModify":1704777574229,"author":{"id":"3573607919761122","authorId":"3573607919761122","name":"Huifen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d6bd2814e5f11f991de0ed780343b74","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573607919761122","authorIdStr":"3573607919761122"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ELSE NUTRITION HLDGS INC(BABYF)$no fear, diamond hands all the way! Some of the highlights included the doubling of services and wearables revenues in five years, the 5G super cycle, the greenfield Apple Car opportunity, and an acceleration in share repurchases.
\n
Now, I look at the flip side of the coin. How would one support the most bearish argument on Apple shares? At least one analyst has compiled a laundry list of items that makes him fear for a 35% drop in the stock price from current levels.
\n
Apple might be too hyped
\n
Goldman Sach’s Rod Hall is one of those very rare Apple analysts that maintain a sell rating on the stock. While I have not come across research from him that is more recent thanlate January, most of his bearish points still seem relevant today.
\n
For starters, Goldman does not seem impressed with the near-term smartphone opportunity. According to the research shop, the iPhone 12 resembles a “redesign cycle” rather thana more meaningful “5G super cycle”. As a result, iPhone replacement rates should be low in 2021.
\n
Still on the same subject, Goldman projects ASP (average selling price) to come down this year, as buyers shift to cheaper models like the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 11. Here, recent data points have been suggesting the opposite: the mini seems to be the biggest loser within the product portfolio, while the Pro and Pro Max have been performing above expectations.
\n
Also, Mr. Hall does not seethe Apple Car opportunityas a profitable initiative.Accordingto him:
\n
\n “The auto industry has generally lower gross margins than Apple's own current businesses. Tesla's gross margins are about 20%, compared to Apple's 40%. Operating margins are even lower, typically in the high single digits. Even in optimistic scenarios, the release of a production Apple Car is likely to have only a minor impact on Apple's bottom line.”\n
\n
Lastly, the analyst believes that the end of the COVID-19 crisis will trigger a discretionary spending shift from tech devices (iPhones, Macs) to away-from-home services (travel and leisure). This could be a negative catalyst for the stock in 2021.
\n
The Apple Maven’s take
\n
In my opinion, the market is not the place to cheer for or against a stock. This is what sports arenas are for (after the pandemic is over, of course). So, I think that even the most confident of Apple investors should pay attention to the bearish case on the stock, and think through the arguments critically.
\n
I think Goldman raises good points about the hype around the 5G super cycle and the Apple Car. Whether either can push Apple’s financial results significantly above current consensus remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the stockseems to have already priced some of the upside.
\n
I also understand the risk in discretionary spending migrating away from tech hardware, software and services. Just as an example, air travel bookings for the summer seasonhave already started to climb fast. Where will the money to cover these costs come from? A brand-new iPad could be one answer.
\n
Still, the Apple Maven sees more upside to investing in Apple at current levels than downside risk. In addition to the bullish points on the business fundamentals, the valuation floor and dip-buying opportunityincreases the probability that an investment in Apple today will pay off in the long term.
\n
Twitter speaks
\n
The most bullish analysts say that Apple could head to $225 per share, under the rosiest scenario. The most bearish of them says “not so fast”, and sees 35% downside risk. increasing acceptability of the digital asset.
\n
The big question observers are asking is, why is the Elon Musk-run company doing this?
\n
Monday, electric-car maker Tesla said in a public filing that it purchased $1.5 billion of bitcoin and that it expects to begin accepting payment in the cryptocurrency for its products in the future.
\n
The move by Tesla to invest in bitcoins was seen as further confirmation of the legitimacy of the nascent asset that didn’t exist until about 12 years ago.
\n
However, bitcoin is seen as a volatile asset that is prone to sharp price volatility and Monday’s announcement by Tesla was described by some corporate finance professionals as an unnecessary addition of risk to the vehicle maker’s balance sheet in the form of currency or a commodity, depending on how you classify bitcoin.
\n
While it’s not clear, at this point, why Musk & Co. have opted to expose the company to the possible risk of owning bitcoin, here are a few reasons why the revolutionary company may have aligned itself with the crypto crowd.
\n
Diversification
\n
Tesla made it clear in its statement filed with its regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission that it sees bitcoin as a chance to diversify its cash and cash-equivalent holdings.
\n
Corporations usually hold excess cash and/or cash-equivalents, like Treasury bills or commercial paper on their books to provide operational liquidity and generate returns while limiting risks.
\n
Tesla wrote, “we updated our investment policy to provide us with more flexibility to further diversify and maximize returns on our cash that is not required to maintain adequate operating liquidity.”
\n
The move isn’t without risk, Tesla acknowledges as the price of bitcoin could slump.
\n
“If we hold digital assets and their values decrease relative to our purchase prices, our financial condition may be harmed,” the company acknowledges.
\n
But a single bitcoin, which has soared 62% so far this year, could easily be headed for a six-digit value if bullish momentum continues to build, which would make Musk look smart.
\n
Publicity stunt?
\n
“Thankfully, Elon Musk on Monday once again ensured no one would be bored, with the unexpected announcement that Tesla will buy bitcoin and accept them as payment for vehicles,” writes Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at Oanda, in a Tuesday research note.
\n
The analyst referred to the move as a “publicity stunt,” a move that everbody is talking about, but there are a number of ways to think about it.
\n
Brand management
\n
Bitcoin is associated with a group of iconoclastic founders who were attempting to break the mold on payments and fiat money. That was the idea behind cryptos being written into code back in 2009 by a person or persons known as Satoshi Nakamoto.
\n
Those rebellious notions align somewhat with Musk’s own agenda of disruption. Tesla is making electric-powered vehicles in a world that has thus far been dominated by fossil-fuel driven cars.
\n
Moreover, Tesla’s direct-to-customer sales model also is viewed as trendsetting, since many companies sell their cars through unaffiliated dealerships.
\n
Bitcoin’s image as a decentralized asset, not controlled by any one body, also fits with Tesla’s image and that of its leader Musk.
\n

\n
The future of $
\n
Tesla’s $1.5 billion investment in bitcoin could also be a simple hedge against the hegemony of the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency since World War Two.
\n
Bitcoin, or something like it, represents the future of payment systems to many supporters, even if it isn’t currently an effective means of exchange due to its current volatility.
\n
“Yesterday’s move by Tesla to invest in bitcoin and start accepting it as payment for its own products really moved the needle,” wrote Simon Peters, cryptoasset analyst at multiasset investment platform eToro, in emailed comments.
\n
The eToro analyst said that there are unconfirmed talks about technology behemoths Apple Inc. and Google-parent Alphabet Inc.,linking it to their own payment systems.
\n
Musk is viewed as an innovator tied to electric vehicles, batteries and space exploration via SpaceX, but one of his early ventures was in payments.
\n
Writing on the wall
\n
The Wall Street Journal notes that, the Tesla CEO invested most of the $22 million he earned from the sale of an internet business into a new startup, X.com, which became PayPal Holdings about 20 years ago.
\n
PayPal currently is among the vanguard of bitcoin revolution. PayPal back in November opened up its cryptocurrency platform to all U.S. customers after conducting a more narrow rollout.
\n
Moreover, several high-profile Wall Street investors, including Stanley Druckenmiller and Paul Tudor Jones, have embraced bitcoin. Famed investor Bill Miller, founder of Miller Value Partners, in a letter to clients earlier this month published on the firm’s website, reaffirmed his bullish outlook on bitcoin.
\n
In other words, Tesla and Musk may be among the biggest to wade into the crypto pool, but a growing cadre of investors are starting to view the volatile digital-ledger-backed cryptos as a bona fide asset.
\n
“Corporate adoption takes another leap forward with Tesla announcement,” writes Devin Ryan, analyst at JMP Securities in a Monday research note.
\n
The researcher, along with fellow analyst Brian McKenna, noted they “believe the building ‘network effect’ around bitcoin is moving the broader crypto asset class into the mainstream, and with many hundreds of billions of dollars of value in infrastructure supporting the asset class, we see the already substantial (and growing) vested interest in its success as bullish for the industry.”
\n
On Tuesday, bitcoin touched a record high around $48,000 before pulling back, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite indexes have seen relatively tepid trade on the day.
","source":"market_watch","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Some stare at the falling unemployment numbers and see an economy well on its way to normal. Others worry they’re not falling fast enough and fear that lingering scars will hurt long-term growth.
\n
In fact, both groups may be right. The near-term recovery looks quite strong, especially if another stimulus package extends enhanced unemployment benefits into the fall. And the stock market certainly senses that a glorious summer is coming into view.
\n
But as companies take advantage of the shock to introduce cost-saving technologies and as consumers emerge from lockdowns with new habits, the same old jobs won’t all be there to fill. The crisis will leave more people settling for lower wages or dropping out of the labor force altogether, and it will take more than throwing money at the problem to heal the economic wounds.
\n
As shocking as the COVID-19 pandemic was for last year’s economy, the world’s synchronized policy response was even more surprising. Central banks cut rates, finance ministries cut checks and an astonishing effort to find a vaccine has now delivered several highly effective options.
\n
With all that money sloshing around the world, how can we not expect a sharp rebound? Even the seers at the European Commission upgraded economic forecasts last week, following a trend set by their counterparts at the International Monetary Fund and the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.
\n
U.S. unemployment has more than halved from its 14.7% peak last March, while household savings are healthy and debts are low. Poorer households even report slightly higher incomes with that extra government support. Larger firms are awash in cash and banks have plenty of capacity to lend. As winter turns to spring, Americans are managing their cabin fever with plans for shopping sprees and exotic travel just as soon as they get that second shot.
\n
Ka-BOOM!
\n
Our central scenario is for a steady recovery this year, with another stimulus package that will boost growth above the Congressional Budget Office’s fresh 3.7% forecast. Unemployment should drift lower from the current 6.3% rate, but it’s going to be tough going because the details in the labor data show something far more worrying.
\n
Specifically, the long-term unemployment rate, which counts those Americans who have been out of work for more than 27 weeks, continues to rise in absolute terms and as a percentage of the overall unemployed. The labor participation rate has also taken a sharp spike lower, after just starting to recover following the global financial crisis.
\n

\n
Many of these lost jobs may indeed re-appear when all those people head back to the mall. But many of these trends are part of a story that stretches back to the 1960s when men aged 25-54 (so-called “prime age”) began falling out of the workforce because of a complex brew of forces that included global competition, technological innovation and weakening labor unions. Some of these trends were only just improving when the crisis hit.
\n
Meanwhile, we are only just beginning to understand the shock delivered to working women. Even as the recovery takes hold, some 80% of those who left the workforce in January were female.
\n
All recessions aggravate the mismatch between the jobs and the jobless, but this one may be worse. When crisis strikes, companies often add new technologies to cut operating costs. This time, though, there will be further disruption from new post-pandemic consumer patterns and preferences.
\n
When the recovery comes, as a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York points out, the new jobs won’t fit the skill sets of those who were let go. It’s not that a flight attendant can’t get land work at an online retailer’s logistics center, but it’s hardly automatic or comfortable.
\n
And, it’s not just a question of training. If their former employer doesn’t call them back to work as demand recovers, the hunt will be even longer. If the former employer went bankrupt, it’s even harder.By one measure, nearly a third of small businesses have closed since last January.
\n
These are not issues that can be addressed easily even with another stimulus package. Some stare at the falling unemployment numbers and see an economy well on its way to normal. Others worry they’re not falling fast enough and fear that lingering scars will hurt long-term growth.\nIn fact, both groups may be right. The near-term recovery looks quite strong, especially if another stimulus package extends enhanced unemployment benefits into the fall. And the stock market certainly senses that a glorious summer is coming into view.\nBut as companies take advantage of the shock to introduce cost-saving technologies and as consumers emerge from lockdowns with new habits, the same old jobs won’t all be there to fill. The crisis will leave more people settling for lower wages or dropping out of the labor force altogether, and it will take more than throwing money at the problem to heal the economic wounds.\nAs shocking as the COVID-19 pandemic was for last year’s economy, the world’s synchronized policy response was even more surprising. Central banks cut rates, finance ministries cut checks and an astonishing effort to find a vaccine has now delivered several highly effective options.\nWith all that money sloshing around the world, how can we not expect a sharp rebound? Even the seers at the European Commission upgraded economic forecasts last week, following a trend set by their counterparts at the International Monetary Fund and the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.\nU.S. unemployment has more than halved from its 14.7% peak last March, while household savings are healthy and debts are low. Poorer households even report slightly higher incomes with that extra government support. Larger firms are awash in cash and banks have plenty of capacity to lend. As winter turns to spring, Americans are managing their cabin fever with plans for shopping sprees and exotic travel just as soon as they get that second shot.\nKa-BOOM!\nOur central scenario is for a steady recovery this year, with another stimulus package that will boost growth above the Congressional Budget Office’s fresh 3.7% forecast. Unemployment should drift lower from the current 6.3% rate, but it’s going to be tough going because the details in the labor data show something far more worrying.\nSpecifically, the long-term unemployment rate, which counts those Americans who have been out of work for more than 27 weeks, continues to rise in absolute terms and as a percentage of the overall unemployed. The labor participation rate has also taken a sharp spike lower, after just starting to recover following the global financial crisis.\n\nMany of these lost jobs may indeed re-appear when all those people head back to the mall. But many of these trends are part of a story that stretches back to the 1960s when men aged 25-54 (so-called “prime age”) began falling out of the workforce because of a complex brew of forces that included global competition, technological innovation and weakening labor unions. Some of these trends were only just improving when the crisis hit.\nMeanwhile, we are only just beginning to understand the shock delivered to working women. Even as the recovery takes hold, some 80% of those who left the workforce in January were female.\nAll recessions aggravate the mismatch between the jobs and the jobless, but this one may be worse. When crisis strikes, companies often add new technologies to cut operating costs. This time, though, there will be further disruption from new post-pandemic consumer patterns and preferences.\nWhen the recovery comes, as a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York points out, the new jobs won’t fit the skill sets of those who were let go. It’s not that a flight attendant can’t get land work at an online retailer’s logistics center, but it’s hardly automatic or comfortable.\nAnd, it’s not just a question of training. If their former employer doesn’t call them back to work as demand recovers, the hunt will be even longer. If the former employer went bankrupt, it’s even harder.By one measure, nearly a third of small businesses have closed since last January.\nThese are not issues that can be addressed easily even with another stimulus package. The long-term unemployed, in particular, need support that is sufficient without undercutting incentives to return to the workforce, as economist Marco Annunziata points out. Progress will require investment in training and education, too, and may take a long time to deliver results.\nFor investors, the “good news,” if you want to call it that, is that these are long-standing trends that won’t likely undercut near-term market returns. The bad news is that by many measures, America’s workforce continues to deteriorate with all sorts of implications for long-term growth, let alone political stability.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":182,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":388904219,"gmtCreate":1613007454031,"gmtModify":1704877299155,"author":{"id":"3573607919761122","authorId":"3573607919761122","name":"Huifen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d6bd2814e5f11f991de0ed780343b74","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573607919761122","authorIdStr":"3573607919761122"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Could be","listText":"Could be","text":"Could be","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/388904219","repostId":"1117067138","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1117067138","pubTimestamp":1612938414,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1117067138?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-10 14:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is This The Biggest Financial Bubble Ever?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1117067138","media":"DollarCollapse","summary":"If you’re over 40 you’ve lived through at least three epic financial bubbles: junk bonds in the 1980","content":"
If you’re over 40 you’ve lived through at least three epic financial bubbles: junk bonds in the 1980s, tech stocks in the 1990s, and housing in the 2000s. Each was spectacular in its own way, and each threatened to take down the whole financial system when it burst.

But they pale next to what’s happening today. Where those past bubbles were sector-specific, which is to say the mania and resulting carnage occurred mostly within one asset class, today’s bubble is spread across, well, pretty much everything – hence the term “everything bubble.”

When this one pops there won’t be a lot of hiding places.

Way too much money

Most bubbles start when an influx of outside cash sends the price of something up dramatically. This captures the imagination of the broader investing public and the process takes on a life of its own, culminating in an orgy of bad decisions and eventually a wipe-out of the easy fortunes made on the way up.

So to understand the everything bubble, let’s start at the beginning with that influx of outside money. This time it’s coming from the Federal Reserve in what can only be described as the mother of all print runs. M2, a medium-broad measure of the US money supply, has more than tripled so far in this century, and lately the arc has gone vertical, rising by nearly a third in just the past year.

All this extra money has to go somewhere, so no surprise that it’s flowing in lots of different directions. Among the recipients:

Fixed income

The bond and money markets, made up of instruments that pay interest, are in the aggregate far bigger than the world’s stock markets. And they’ve been booming, with interest rates falling steadily for four straight decades. Since bond prices are the reciprocal of bond yields, the next chart can be read as an epic bull market in bonds, one which has gained steam in the past year as massive currency creation has forced fixed income investors (who have to invest new cash somehow) to buy bonds regardless of what they yield.

To further illustrate how uniquely dysfunctional the world’s bond markets have become, here’s a chart going back to the 1300s showing that today’s rates aren’t just low by modern standards, but are the lowest in human history. Which is another way of saying today’s bond bubble dwarfs anything anywhere ever.

The hopeless position in which pension funds and retirees find themselves is summed up in the following headline:Junk buyers desperate for debt are pressing companies to borrow.

Stocks, of course

The most obvious bubbles happen in stocks, because “the market” gets top billing in both the financial media and the psyches of investors. And after a long, slow slog out of the depths of the Great Recession, US stocks have in the past couple of years blown through all previous valuation records. That’s right, this market is now a bigger bubble than those of 1929 and 1999, and it’s still going strong.

Pretty much any popular stock valuation indicator backs up this assertion, but the most dramatic is probably the “Buffet Indicator,” so named because legendary investor Warren Buffet uses it to decide how to allocate his billions. It’s also easy to understand: chart the aggregate market capitalization of all US stocks against GDP and there you are. When stocks are low versus GDP, they’re underappreciated and undervalued; when high compared to GDP they’re overvalued. Today they’re higher than ever before, including just before the last two major bear markets.

Want some other bubbliscious indicators? Here you go: Right now, more stocks are trading at over 10 times sales than in 1999 at the height of the dot-com bubble. And the number of “zombie” companies, i.e., those that have to borrow to cover their existing debt service and will collapse if cut off from new credit, has never been higher.

Housing

This one is a surprise because it was the epicenter of the last bubble, and very seldom does an asset class reinflate so quickly. But hey,all that money has to go somewhere, and houses are the American dream yadda yadda. In the past couple of years, home prices in many places have blown through their 2006 bubble highs, and are now accelerating. Note the hockey stick inflection at the far right of the following chart.

As the hedge fund guy in The Big Short says after visiting Florida,“Yep, it’s a bubble.”

Cryptocurrencies – this generation’s dot-coms?

Cryptos weren’t around for any previous bubbles so their role in what’s coming isn’t yet knowable. What is clear is that they’re behaving like dot-com stocks in the 1990s, with bitcoin (think Amazon.com) soaring parabolically if erratically…

… and hundreds of lesser coins with a wide variety of future prospects (think eBay, AOL, Pets.com) also soaring on a torrent of fiat currency rocket fuel. Here’s the second most valuable crypto:

The conclusion: Even if cryptos end up dominating some future monetary system, their parabolic arcs in the here and now scream “bubble!”

As for moral hazard …A true bubble is more than just soaring prices. It also features people behaving in ways that with hindsight will seem totally incomprehensible. Think previous bubbles’ daytraders and home flippers making fortunes doing things that experts normally find difficult. And recall the huge amounts of money that once poured into things that in normal times would have little appeal to rational investors. Collateralized Debt Obligations (bonds that were somehow comprised of subprime mortgagesandAAA-rated) and mutual funds holding dot-com stocks with no earnings — and no realistic prospect thereof — are prominent examples from the recent past.

Today’s world offers some even better examples of moral hazard, including:

SPACs

These are companies that go public without assets or earnings or any of the other impedimenta typical of IPOs. You give them your money and they’ll figure out how to put it to work. Why? Because they’re geniuses who claim to have made fortunes in the past few years, and you apparently have way too much cash and no productive uses for it. There are evenSPAC ETFsthat offer exposure to the whole “sector.”

Rock star money managers

In typical bubbles, a handful of money managers roll the dice on the bubble asset and win big. Bigger than big. They make ridiculous amounts of money and are hailed as geniuses and courted by reporters and politicians hoping to bask in their reflected glory. Then of course the bubble pops and the geniuses crash and burn along with their favorite speculations.

The everything bubble’s supernova is the ARK Innovation ETF, run by hitherto obscure (and now household name)Cathie Wood. Her “innovation”? She loaded up on Tesla stock right before it embarked on an epic (and inexplicable) 1000% run that made it more valuable than the ten biggest carmakers on the planet combined.

Wood is still long and strong Tesla in addition to many other prominent bubble assets, and will apparently use the torrent of money now pouring into her fund to roll the dice on an even bigger scale.

High-tech daytradersThis list wouldn’t be complete without the Reddit/Robinhood traders who are having a ball chasing a wide variety of stocks straight up while tormenting hedge funds on the other side of those trades. SeeWhen Predator Becomes Prey.

Mutually-exclusive solutions

So here we are, with all the typical bubble pathologies on full display, but for multiple bubbles rather than just one. And a government determined to levitate all those bubbles simultaneously, even at the expense of rising inflation. See Jim Rickard’s latest,Hyperinflation Can Happen Much Faster Than You Think.

What happens when one of these bubbles bursts? The others burst too, in short order. You can’t have an epic, systemically dangerous bust in one big sector and placid good times in all the others. Markets – now more interconnected than ever – simply don’t work that way.

Meanwhile, the actions necessary to fix some of these bubbles are mutually exclusive. A stock market or housing bust requires much lower interest rates and bigger government deficits, while a currency crisis brought on by rising inflation requires higher interest rates and government spending cuts. Let everything blow up at once and there will be literally no fixing it. And the “everything bubble” will become the “everything bust.”
","source":"lsy1612938392079","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is This The Biggest Financial Bubble Ever?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs This The Biggest Financial Bubble Ever?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-02-10 14:26 GMT+8 DollarCollapse\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
If you’re over 40 you’ve lived through at least three epic financial bubbles: junk bonds in the 1980s, tech stocks in the 1990s, and housing in the 2000s. Since bond prices are the reciprocal of bond yields, the next chart can be read as an epic bull market in bonds, one which has gained steam in the past year as massive currency creation has forced fixed income investors (who have to invest new cash somehow) to buy bonds regardless of what they yield.To further illustrate how uniquely dysfunctional the world’s bond markets have become, here’s a chart going back to the 1300s showing that today’s rates aren’t just low by modern standards, but are the lowest in human history. Which is another way of saying today’s bond bubble dwarfs anything anywhere ever.The hopeless position in which pension funds and retirees find themselves is summed up in the following headline:Junk buyers desperate for debt are pressing companies to borrow.Stocks, of courseThe most obvious bubbles happen in stocks, because “the market” gets top billing in both the financial media and the psyches of investors. And after a long, slow slog out of the depths of the Great Recession, US stocks have in the past couple of years blown through all previous valuation records. That’s right, this market is now a bigger bubble than those of 1929 and 1999, and it’s still going strong.Pretty much any popular stock valuation indicator backs up this assertion, but the most dramatic is probably the “Buffet Indicator,” so named because legendary investor Warren Buffet uses it to decide how to allocate his billions. It’s also easy to understand: chart the aggregate market capitalization of all US stocks against GDP and there you are. When stocks are low versus GDP, they’re underappreciated and undervalued; when high compared to GDP they’re overvalued. Today they’re higher than ever before, including just before the last two major bear markets.Want some other bubbliscious indicators? Here you go: Right now, more stocks are trading at over 10 times sales than in 1999 at the height of the dot-com bubble. And the number of “zombie” companies, i.e., those that have to borrow to cover their existing debt service and will collapse if cut off from new credit, has never been higher.HousingThis one is a surprise because it was the epicenter of the last bubble, and very seldom does an asset class reinflate so quickly. But hey,all that money has to go somewhere, and houses are the American dream yadda yadda. In the past couple of years, home prices in many places have blown through their 2006 bubble highs, and are now accelerating. Note the hockey stick inflection at the far right of the following chart.As the hedge fund guy in The Big Short says after visiting Florida,“Yep, it’s a bubble.”Cryptocurrencies – this generation’s dot-coms?Cryptos weren’t around for any previous bubbles so their role in what’s coming isn’t yet knowable. What is clear is that they’re behaving like dot-com stocks in the 1990s, with bitcoin (think Amazon.com) soaring parabolically if erratically…… and hundreds of lesser coins with a wide variety of future prospects (think eBay, AOL, Pets.com) also soaring on a torrent of fiat currency rocket fuel. Here’s the second most valuable crypto:The conclusion: Even if cryptos end up dominating some future monetary system, their parabolic arcs in the here and now scream “bubble!”As for moral hazard …A true bubble is more than just soaring prices. It also features people behaving in ways that with hindsight will seem totally incomprehensible. Think previous bubbles’ daytraders and home flippers making fortunes doing things that experts normally find difficult. And recall the huge amounts of money that once poured into things that in normal times would have little appeal to rational investors. Collateralized Debt Obligations (bonds that were somehow comprised of subprime mortgagesandAAA-rated) and mutual funds holding dot-com stocks with no earnings — and no realistic prospect thereof — are prominent examples from the recent past.Today’s world offers some even better examples of moral hazard, including:SPACsThese are companies that go public without assets or earnings or any of the other impedimenta typical of IPOs. You give them your money and they’ll figure out how to put it to work. Why? Because they’re geniuses who claim to have made fortunes in the past few years, and you apparently have way too much cash and no productive uses for it. There are evenSPAC ETFsthat offer exposure to the whole “sector.”Rock star money managersIn typical bubbles, a handful of money managers roll the dice on the bubble asset and win big. Bigger than big. They make ridiculous amounts of money and are hailed as geniuses and courted by reporters and politicians hoping to bask in their reflected glory. Then of course the bubble pops and the geniuses crash and burn along with their favorite speculations.The everything bubble’s supernova is the ARK Innovation ETF, run by hitherto obscure (and now household name)Cathie Wood. Her “innovation”? She loaded up on Tesla stock right before it embarked on an epic (and inexplicable) 1000% run that made it more valuable than the ten biggest carmakers on the planet combined.Wood is still long and strong Tesla in addition to many other prominent bubble assets, and will apparently use the torrent of money now pouring into her fund to roll the dice on an even bigger scale.High-tech daytradersThis list wouldn’t be complete without the Reddit/Robinhood traders who are having a ball chasing a wide variety of stocks straight up while tormenting hedge funds on the other side of those trades. SeeWhen Predator Becomes Prey.Mutually-exclusive solutionsSo here we are, with all the typical bubble pathologies on full display, but for multiple bubbles rather than just one. And a government determined to levitate all those bubbles simultaneously, even at the expense of rising inflation. See Jim Rickard’s latest,Hyperinflation Can Happen Much Faster Than You Think.What happens when one of these bubbles bursts? The others burst too, in short order. You can’t have an epic, systemically dangerous bust in one big sector and placid good times in all the others. Markets – now more interconnected than ever – simply don’t work that way.Meanwhile, the actions necessary to fix some of these bubbles are mutually exclusive. A stock market or housing bust requires much lower interest rates and bigger government deficits, while a currency crisis brought on by rising inflation requires higher interest rates and government spending cuts. Let everything blow up at once and there will be literally no fixing it. And the “everything bubble” will become the “everything bust.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":142,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
