Bloomberg reports that the company has selected underwriters for an IPO and it could reach the market this fall.</p>\n<p>But it's not the money Rivian has raised that excites me, it's the products the company plans to offer.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a995b715219bbd2af1bde111b6523160\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<h2>Filling an EV need</h2>\n<p>One of the biggest gaps in the EV market to this point has been trucks and SUVs. Tesla has dabbled in SUVs with the Model Y and Model X, but they were not really designed as rugged off-road vehicles and operate more as crossover-size vehicles. <b>Ford</b> and <b>General</b> <b>Motors</b> (NYSE:GM) both have electric trucks on the near horizon, but nothing the average consumer can yet access. That means the Rivian vehicles slated for release this month could be the first real truck and SUV manufacturer to hit the market.</p>\n<p>What makes the R1T truck and R1S different from most EVs is that they're purpose-built from the ground up to be electric vehicles. They come with over 300 miles of range, the ability to drive through three feet of water, and acceleration of zero to 60 miles per hour in as little as three seconds. And towing ability of up to 11,000 pounds puts them on par with the best-selling trucks in the world.</p>\n<p>The R1S SUV is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the only EV SUVs that can comfortably fit seven passengers, opening up a large market of buyers who need more space than most of the crossover-size EVs hitting the market from <b>Volkswagen</b>, Ford, GM, and others can offer. And with both its truck and its SUV, Rivian is selling vehicles to buyers already spending over $50,000, so its $70,000 price tag won't come with much sticker shock for buyers who need the size or capabilities.</p>\n<h2>A big buyer is already on board</h2>\n<p>The drivetrain platforms for the R1T and R1S are the same, but they're not the only vehicles being built. The first vehicles to come off the production line will actually be delivery trucks for Amazon. Amazon has reportedly ordered 100,000 Rivian trucks to be delivered by the end of 2030, and that could keep the company running for a long time as it builds out infrastructure to meet consumer demand.</p>\n<h2>What to expect from an IPO</h2>\n<p>Rivian isn't quite a pre-revenue company now that its production line is operating, but it's close. Outside of limited deliveries to Amazon, the company won't report much revenue pre-IPO -- but that will change quickly. Deliveries of R1T trucks are expected to start soon, with broader deliveries beginning in early 2022.</p>\n<p>Bloomberg has reported that Rivian could seek a $70 billion valuation in an IPO, with <b>Goldman Sachs</b>, <b>JPMorgan</b>, and <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSTLW\">Morgan Stanley</a></b> signed on as advisors. That's a lofty valuation for a company this early in its growth cycle, but I do think Rivian is building a valuable brand and products that will appeal to the masses. Only time will tell if this valuation is too high.</p>\n<p>I don't often get excited about pre-IPO companies because we don't know a lot about their financials and it can be very early to judge what they'll look like as more mature companies. Specifically, Palantir ended June 17 with a market cap of nearly $48 billion, but is on track to bring in perhaps $1.5 billion in full-year sales in 2021. That's a multiple of about 32 times sales. Even if Palantir continues to grow its top-line at 30% annually, it could take years for this price-to-sales multiple to come down to anywhere close to the average for cloud stocks.</p>\n<p>Another possible concern is the growth potential for its government-focused Gotham platform. Big government contract wins in the U.S. have been primarily responsible for Palantir's exceptional growth rate. However, there remains an outside chance that President Joe Biden may curb funding to some of the federal agencies that employ Palantir's services.</p>\n<p>Over the long run, I'm optimistic and believe Palantir's platform is unlike anything else available. While Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine is a mainstay in the U.S., and it's likely to play a clear role in other markets, time might prove the company's enemy. Even though Wall Street's consensus price target for the company has quintupled in recent months, it <i>still</i> implies up to 71% downside over the next year.</p>\n<p>The biggest issue for GameStop is that its valuation has completely detached from its underlying fundamentals. While it's not uncommon for stocks to trade on emotion for short periods of time, operating performance is what always dictates the long-term movement in the share price of a stock. When it comes to operating performance, GameStop has been a dud.</p>\n<p>Although the company's first-quarter fiscal results highlighted a 25% net sales increase from the prior-year period, total sales for the company have been falling precipitously for years. That's because video game retailer GameStop recognized the shift to digital gaming too late, and it's now stuck with its massive portfolio of brick-and-mortar gaming stores. Even though e-commerce sales have been a bright spot for the company, slashing costs and closing stores remains its No. 1 priority.</p>\n<p>With sufficient cash, bankruptcy isn't a concern for GameStop. The company behind an experimental COVID-19 vaccine (Covaxin) and a trio of internally developed eye-blindness candidates is expected to shed 18% of its value, if Wall Street's consensus price target is correct.</p>\n<p>Arguably the biggest issue for Ocugen is the clinical update the company issued on June 10 concerning Covaxin. Even though partner Bharat Biotech led a large clinical study in India that yielded an overall efficacy of 78%, along with 100% efficacy in preventing severe forms of COVID-19, Ocugen announced on June 10 that it would forgo seeking an EUA in the U.S. and would instead file for a biologics license application. In other words, Ocugen's path to a quick emergency approval in the U.S. just flew out the window.</p>\n<p>What's more, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's requested additional information and data on Covaxin. This is a fancy of saying that Ocugen will very likely have to run a clinical study in the U.S. prior to submitting Covaxin for approval. Following its incredible run higher (NVIDIA has doubled over the past year), graphics processing unit giant NVIDIA closed 3% above Wall Street's consensus price target, as of June 17.</p>\n<p>One reason for tempered expectations at this point has to be valuation. Even with NVIDIA crushing expectations and seeing strong PC gaming demand, sales growth is expected to slow from an estimated 49% in fiscal 2022 to a high single digit percentage in each of the next two fiscal years. In fact, the company closed at nearly 20 times projected sales for the current fiscal year. That's a bit optimistic given an expected sales growth slowdown.</p>\n<p>Perhaps the other reason Wall Street expects NVIDIA to go sideways is the company's cryptocurrency mining chip segment. While sales of crypto chips could hit $400 million in the current quarter, demand is entirely dependent on the hype surrounding digital currencies and the favorability of technical charts. Crypto is just as well known for its long bear markets as it is for the big gains it's delivered over the past decade. If another lull strikes, a fast-growing ancillary segment for NVIDA could easily become a drag.</p>\n<p>For what it's worth, I see no fundamental reasons to sell NVIDIA if you're already a long-term shareholder. In March, the company announced a&nbsp;new gaming card.</p>\n<p><b>What to expect</b></p>\n<p>Earnings: Of the 34 analysts surveyed by FactSet, AMD on average is expected to post adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share, up from 35 cents a share expected at the beginning of the quarter and 18 cents a share reported in the year-ago period. Estimize, a software platform that crowdsources estimates from hedge-fund executives, brokerages, buy-side analysts and others, calls for earnings of 48 cents a share.</p>\n<p>Revenue: Back in January, AMD predicted first-quarter sales between $3.1 billion and $3.3 billion, while analysts on average had forecast revenue of $2.68 billion at the time. Now, 31 analysts, on average, expect revenue of $3.18 billion, up from the $1.79 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. Estimize expects revenue of $3.25 billion.</p>\n<p>Stock movement: In the first quarter, AMD shares fell 14.4%. In contrast, the PHLX Semiconductor Index gained 11.8%, the S&amp;P 500 index gained 5.8%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 2.8%.</p>\n<p><b>What analysts are saying</b></p>\n<p>Susquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Rolland, who has a positive rating and a $115 price target on AMD, said PC and graphics processing unit checks point to continued strong demand in the first quarter.</p>\n<p>\"While many believe upside is capped by capacity constraints, we believe AMD is quickly becoming [Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (2330.TW)] preferred 'CPU' partner, as Intel's IDM 2.0 strategy appears increasingly competitive to thefoundry,\" Rolland said. \"Therefore, we would not be surprised to see AMD receive more than enough wafers to track toward full-year guidance and perhaps beyond.\"</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSTLW\">Morgan Stanley</a> analyst Joseph Moore, who just reinstated estimates for AMD, said he expects strong earnings above the consensus from AMD with \"strong demand across the board, and supply constraints due to substrates and to a lesser extent wafers.\"</p>\n<p>Moore expects fab priority to keep going to high margin products like servers and \"enthusiast desktop microprocessors\" and \"lowest-margin customers that are strategic and sole sourced\" like Microsoft Corp.'s <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSFT\">$(MSFT)$</a> and Sony Group Corp.'s gaming consoles.</p>\n<p>\"With competitors also dealing with supply constraints, overall pricing should be healthy,\" Moore said. But if Wall Street's <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a>-year consensus price target proves accurate, Palantir will head in reverse by up to 12%.</p>\n<p>The likeliest reason Wall Street is tempering expectations on Palantir is valuation. Specifically, Palantir ended June 17 with a market cap of nearly $48 billion, but is on track to bring in perhaps $1.5 billion in full-year sales in 2021. That's a multiple of about 32 times sales. Even if Palantir continues to grow its top-line at 30% annually, it could take years for this price-to-sales multiple to come down to anywhere close to the average for cloud stocks.</p>\n<p>Another possible concern is the growth potential for its government-focused Gotham platform. Big government contract wins in the U.S. have been primarily responsible for Palantir's exceptional growth rate. However, there remains an outside chance that President Joe Biden may curb funding to some of the federal agencies that employ Palantir's services.</p>\n<p>Over the long run, I'm optimistic and believe Palantir's platform is unlike anything else available. But tempering near-term expectations given its valuation premium may be warranted.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a38605bee8e62f3e8aa414fa24278e7e\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>Moderna: Implied downside of 11%</h3>\n<p>Biotech stock <b>Moderna</b> (NASDAQ:MRNA) is arguably the biggest beneficiary of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. It's <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of only three drugmakers to currently have their COVID-19 vaccine approved on an emergency-use authorization (EUA) basis in the United States. But if Wall Street's consensus 12-month price target is correct, it's stock is also on its way to a double-digit decline.</p>\n<p>Why the lack of love from Wall Street? The answer looks to be analysts looking to the future. While Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine is a mainstay in the U.S., and it's likely to play a clear role in other markets, time might prove the company's enemy. Over time, new vaccines are expected to come onto the scene, which'll eat away at Moderna's potential pool of patients.</p>\n<p>The other worry is that no one is exactly certain how long COVID-19 vaccine immunity will last. Even though Wall Street's consensus price target for the company has quintupled in recent months, it <i>still</i> implies up to 71% downside over the next year.</p>\n<p>The biggest issue for GameStop is that its valuation has completely detached from its underlying fundamentals. While it's not uncommon for stocks to trade on emotion for short periods of time, operating performance is what always dictates the long-term movement in the share price of a stock. When it comes to operating performance, GameStop has been a dud.</p>\n<p>Although the company's first-quarter fiscal results highlighted a 25% net sales increase from the prior-year period, total sales for the company have been falling precipitously for years. That's because video game retailer GameStop recognized the shift to digital gaming too late, and it's now stuck with its massive portfolio of brick-and-mortar gaming stores. Even though e-commerce sales have been a bright spot for the company, slashing costs and closing stores remains its No. 1 priority.</p>\n<p>With sufficient cash, bankruptcy isn't a concern for GameStop. The company behind an experimental COVID-19 vaccine (Covaxin) and a trio of internally developed eye-blindness candidates is expected to shed 18% of its value, if Wall Street's consensus price target is correct.</p>\n<p>Arguably the biggest issue for Ocugen is the clinical update the company issued on June 10 concerning Covaxin. Even though partner Bharat Biotech led a large clinical study in India that yielded an overall efficacy of 78%, along with 100% efficacy in preventing severe forms of COVID-19, Ocugen announced on June 10 that it would forgo seeking an EUA in the U.S. and would instead file for a biologics license application. In other words, Ocugen's path to a quick emergency approval in the U.S. just flew out the window.</p>\n<p>What's more, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's requested additional information and data on Covaxin. This is a fancy of saying that Ocugen will very likely have to run a clinical study in the U.S. prior to submitting Covaxin for approval. Even with NVIDIA crushing expectations and seeing strong PC gaming demand, sales growth is expected to slow from an estimated 49% in fiscal 2022 to a high single digit percentage in each of the next two fiscal years. In fact, the company closed at nearly 20 times projected sales for the current fiscal year. That's a bit optimistic given an expected sales growth slowdown.</p>\n<p>Perhaps the other reason Wall Street expects NVIDIA to go sideways is the company's cryptocurrency mining chip segment. While sales of crypto chips could hit $400 million in the current quarter, demand is entirely dependent on the hype surrounding digital currencies and the favorability of technical charts. Crypto is just as well known for its long bear markets as it is for the big gains it's delivered over the past decade. If another lull strikes, a fast-growing ancillary segment for NVIDA could easily become a drag.</p>\n<p>For what it's worth, I see no fundamental reasons to sell NVIDIA if you're already a long-term shareholder. But if Wall Street's one-year consensus price target proves accurate, Palantir will head in reverse by up to 12%.\nThe likeliest reason Wall Street is tempering expectations on Palantir is valuation. Specifically, Palantir ended June 17 with a market cap of nearly $48 billion, but is on track to bring in perhaps $1.5 billion in full-year sales in 2021. That's a multiple of about 32 times sales. Even if Palantir continues to grow its top-line at 30% annually, it could take years for this price-to-sales multiple to come down to anywhere close to the average for cloud stocks.\nAnother possible concern is the growth potential for its government-focused Gotham platform. Big government contract wins in the U.S. have been primarily responsible for Palantir's exceptional growth rate. That cut the stock's loss for the second quarter to nearly 19%. The stock also retook a key technical level on its chart: the50-day moving average.</p>\n<p>On May 24, the company unveiled more than 100 upgrades \"to refine and improve every aspect of the Airbnb service, from our website and app to our community support and policies,\" Airbnb noted in a news release. Investors liked the news. On May 27, shares surged 6.3% in triple its average volume over the past 50 sessions.</p>\n<p>That helped ABNB stock end a seven-week slump and lodge a 4.2% gain for the week ended May 28. Airbnb powered 7% higher the very next week. And the small size of weekly declines lately adds another hint that institutional investors are feasting on the beaten-down shares.</p>\n<p>On June 21, Airbnb announced that the first house designed by the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, Casa Vicens in Barcelona, has been listed on its rental website.</p>\n<p>How would the bears view the action lately?</p>\n<p>One might take the sober view that<b>Airbnb</b>(ABNB) is still attempting a fledgling recovery after falling seven weeks in a row, trying to bottom out after posting Q1 results on May 14.</p>\n<p>Weak action replaced the uptrend, albeit a brief one, that began with a January breakout past a 175.07proper buy pointin anarrow, closet-width IPO base. Some investors may feel some frustration over how ABNB stock has made a full round trip of its gains.</p>\n<p>When a stock gives up a double-digit percentage gain from thebuy point, it triggers adefensive sell signal.</p>\n<p>For now, Airbnb stock has locked current shareholders into a narrowing trading range lately, between 130 and 160.</p>\n<p><b>Airbnb Stock: Is It A Buy Now?</b></p>\n<p>This story analyzes all facets of the innovator in leisure travel in terms of fundamentals, technicals and mutual fund ownership. The company also noted a 13% year-over-year rise in \"nights and experiences booked\" to 64.4 million. It recorded a net loss of $1.17 billion (-$1.95 a share) vs. a net loss of $341 million in Q1 of 2020 (-$1.30 per share).</p>\n<p>The Street had expected the company to lose $1.19 a share and post $714 million in sales, down 15% vs. a year earlier.</p>\n<p><b>ABNB Analysis: Is Relative Strength On The Mend?</b></p>\n<p>This may confuse some investors: How can a stock like Airbnb show a weakRelative Strength Ratingof 12 (on a scale of 1 to 99) when the stock has already gone up a lot from its initial offering price?</p>\n<p>One reason: ABNB has now traded 6-1/2 months in the public market, but the RS Rating covers 12-month relative price performance. In general, you want to home in on companies that show an RS Rating of 85 or higher. Why? That way you're selecting stocks already showing strength and ranking in the top 15% in terms of stock price strength.</p>\n<p>When it comes to picking high-flying growth stocks, those withsuperior price strengthtend to make new highs, then keep going higher.</p>\n<p>Also, the RS Rating places emphasis on the past three months of action. Since the start of Q2, ABNB stock in fact has fallen sharply. So that underwhelming performance also hurts its relative strength score.</p>\n<p>Keep an eye on theAccumulation/Distribution Rating, too. Right now, Airbnb gets a solid B+ grade on a scale of A to E. This proprietary IBD rating measures the amount of heavy institutional buying vs. selling. A grade of C+ or higher denotes net institutional buying over the past 13 weeks; C- or lower points to net selling.</p>\n<p>If you want a stock that is eagerly getting scooped by mutual funds, banks, college endowments and the like, prefer those with an A or B grade before you buy.</p>\n<p><b>ABNB Stock Fundamentals Today</b></p>\n<p>The San Francisco-based firm's disruptive business model: Allow house and condo owners turn their properties into short-term rentals. The idea has hatched plenty of competitors. Even large hotel chains offer similar properties in addition to their standard lodging accommodations. So, competition is truly fierce. Plus, coronavirus walloped the lodging industry in 2020. No wonder Airbnb's revenue declined in three of its four quarters last year.</p>\n<p>After a nominal pickup in the top line in the first quarter of 2020, Airbnb saw revenues fall 72%, 18% and 22% vs. year-ago levels in Q2, Q3 and Q4, respectively.</p>\n<p>Over that same time frame, Airbnb lost a total $1.74 a share. The company has 608 million shares outstanding.</p>\n<p>Will business improve in 2021?</p>\n<p>Right now, Wall Street thinks Airbnb will keep bleeding red ink, losing another $1.59 a share in 2021. However, the bottom-line consensus estimate for 2022 has turned from a net loss of 26 cents to earnings of 8 cents a share, an encouraging sign.</p>\n<p>Analysts polled by FactSet also see revenue rebounding 271% in the second quarter of this year to $1.24 billion vs. year-ago levels, then gain another 42% to $1.9 billion in Q3.</p>\n<p>So, any fresh positive guidance on both the top and bottom lines could spark renewed buying in Airbnb stock.</p>\n<p>For now, Airbnb's recent 10Earnings Per Share Ratingmeans its profit record in the near and long term is superior to only 10% of all publicly traded companies. In most cases, you'd prefer companies with an EPS score of 80 or higher. The SMR Rating, analyzing sales, profit margins and return on equity, sits at the lowest possible E grade.</p>\n<p><b>The I In CAN SLIM: Institutional Ownership</b></p>\n<p>Fortunately, mutual funds are increasingly accumulating ABNB stock.</p>\n<p>MarketSmith datashows the total number of mutual funds owning a piece of Airbnb has recently hit 734 funds at the end of the first quarter vs. 656 in Q4 2020. Top funds holding a stake include Janus Henderson Enterprise Fund (JANEX), Franklin Growth (FKGRX), MFS Growth (MFEGX) and Barron Asset Retail (BARAX).</p>\n<p>Management owns 1% of the entire company. The float, at 189 million shares, is rising. Yet, this float poses just a fraction of the 608.4 million shares outstanding.
