CEO Elon Musk said the delayed new version of the company’s Model S sedan will be delivered starting in May 2021, and Model X deliveries will begin in the third quarter of the year.

Tesla reported first-quarter results after the bell on Monday. The company beat expectations handily, buoyed by sales of bitcoin and regulatory credits, but the stock dipped as much as 2.5% after hours as investors digested the numbers.

Here’s how the company fared in the quarter, compared with analyst estimates compiled by Refinitiv:

Earnings:93 cents per share vs. 79 cents per share expected

Revenue:$10.39 billion vs. $10.29 billion expected, up 74% from a year ago

Net profit reached a quarterly record of $438 million on a GAAP basis, and the company recorded $518 million in revenue from sales of regulatory credits during the period. It also recorded a $101 million positive impact from sales of bitcoin during the quarter.

CEO Elon Musk’s electric vehicle business reported in the first quarter vehicle deliveries of 184,800 Model 3 and Model Y cars, beating expectations and setting a record for Tesla. However, the company also said it produced none of its higher-end Model S sedans or Model X SUVs for the period ending March. It delivered2,020 older Model S sedans and Model X SUVs from inventory.

On Monday’s earnings call, Musk said the new version of the company’s Model S sedans will finally be delivered to customers starting in May 2021, with Model X deliveries to begin in the third quarter of the year. Musk and CFO Zachary Kirkhorn both said supply chain issues are likely to remain a challenge for Tesla this year.

In January 2021 (during a fourth-quarter 2020 earnings update) Musk had said that the Model S Plaid was already in production would be delivered starting in February 2021. But he admitted on Monday, “There were more challenges than expected,” in producing the refreshed version of these vehicles. He did not elaborate.

Tesla is now aiming to produce 2,000 Model S and X vehicles per week later this year.

The company said Monday it expects more than 50% vehicle delivery growth in 2021 overall, which implies minimum deliveries around 750,000 vehicles this year.

The fact Tesla grew vehicle unit sales by more than 100% year over year but grew service centers by only 28% and its mobile service fleet by only 22% explains why some Tesla customers face frustratingly long wait times for repairs. Service expansion is not keeping pace with the volume of vehicles sold.

Tesla said it has weathered chip shortages that have plagued the auto industry in part by “pivoting extremely quickly to new microcontrollers, while simultaneously developing firmware for new chips made by new suppliers.” It did not disclose the names of its new suppliers.

It also reiterated Musk’s frequent claim that cameras, not radar, are a better path toward autonomous vehicles. “Our AI-based software architecture has been increasingly reliant on cameras, to the point where radar is becoming unnecessary earlier than expected. As a result, our FSD [Full Self-Driving] team is fully focused on evolving to a vision-based autonomous system and we are nearly ready to switch the US market to Tesla Vision,” the company said in its earnings release.

Revenue for its energy generation and storage business nearly doubled for Tesla versus the same period in 2020, when Musk said Covid, then an emerging pandemic, had slowed its energy business to a crawl. But energy revenue declined from $787 million in the fourth quarter to $595 million in the first quarter of 2021.

Recently, Tesla increased prices for its solar rooftops by 50%, and now requires anyone ordering solar photovoltaics (including Tesla solar roof tiles) to also order the Powerwall, Tesla’s home energy storage system. The sudden price change applied retroactively to some vexed customers.

Musk said on the Q1 2021 call that he is aiming for homes with solar rooftops and batteries from Tesla to function as a “giant distributed utility” that can help incumbent electrical utilities supply customers with all the electricity they need as demand and extreme weather events increase.

Executives did not say how they would change their production or mix of battery cells from suppliers in order to make a higher volume of vehicles and energy storage products in 2021.

Musk said the company’s 4680 cells, which it developed independently and makes at a pilot plant in Fremont, California, are not yet reliable enough to be shipped in Tesla vehicles. The administration aims to approve a first proposal designed to create jobs, revamp U.S. infrastructure and fight climate change before it turns toward a second plan to improve education and expand paid leave and health-care coverage.\nThrough the plan announced Wednesday, the White House aims to show it can “revitalize our national imagination and put millions of Americans to work right now,” the administration official said.\nThe White House plans to fund the spending by raising the corporate tax rate to 28%. Republicans slashed the levy to 21% from 35% as part of their 2017 tax law.\nThe administration also aims to boost the global minimum tax for multinational corporations and ensure they pay at least 21%. The White House also aims to discourage firms from listing tax havens as their address and writing off expenses related to offshoring, among other reforms.\nBiden hopes the package will create manufacturing jobs and rescue failing American infrastructure as the country tries to emerge from the shadow of Covid-19. He and congressional Democrats also aim to combat climate change and start a transition to cleaner energy sources.\nThe president was set to announce his plans in Pittsburgh, a city where organized labor has a strong presence and the economy has undergone a shift from traditional manufacturing and mining to health care and technology. Biden, who has pledged to create union jobs as part of the infrastructure plan, launched his presidential campaign at a Pittsburgh union hall in 2019.\nWhile Democrats narrowly control both chambers of Congress, the party faces challenges in passing the infrastructure plan. The GOP broadly supports efforts to rebuild roads, bridges and airports and expand broadband access, but Republicans oppose tax hikes as part of the process.\n“We’re hearing the next few months might bring a so-called infrastructure proposal that may actually be a Trojan horse for massive tax hikes and other job-killing left-wing policies,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said earlier this month.\nBiden has said he hopes to win Republican support for an infrastructure bill. If Democrats cannot get 10 GOP senators on board, they will have to try to pass the bill through budget reconciliation, which would not require any Republicans to back the plan in a chamber split 50-50 by party.\nThey would also have to consider whether to package the physical infrastructure plans with other recovery policies including universal pre-K and expanded paid leave. Republicans likely would not back more spending to boost the social safety net, especially if Democrats move to hike taxes on the wealthy to fund programs.\nThe administration official did not say whether Biden would seek to pass the plan with bipartisan support.\n“We will begin and will already have begun to do extensive outreach to our counterparts in Congress,” the official said.\nAsked Monday about how the bill could pass, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden would “leave the mechanics of bill passing to [Senate Majority] Leader [Chuck] Schumer and other leaders in Congress.”\nAs of now, Democrats will have two more shots at budget reconciliation before the 2022 midterms. Schumer, D-N.Y., hopes to convince the chamber’s parliamentarian to allow Democrats to use the process at least once more beyond those two opportunities, according to NBC News.\nThe party passed its $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package without a Republican vote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":206,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355373281,"gmtCreate":1617031424943,"gmtModify":1704801165013,"author":{"id":"3574376913793228","authorId":"3574376913793228","name":"Cychu","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574376913793228","authorIdStr":"3574376913793228"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"OMG","listText":"OMG","text":"OMG","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/355373281","repostId":"2123518862","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355379454,"gmtCreate":1617031348678,"gmtModify":1704801164205,"author":{"id":"3574376913793228","authorId":"3574376913793228","name":"Cychu","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574376913793228","authorIdStr":"3574376913793228"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"great","listText":"great","text":"great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/355379454","repostId":"1165495068","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165495068","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617030268,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1165495068?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-29 23:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"One dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines was 80% effective in preventing Covid in CDC study of health workers","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165495068","media":"cnbc","summary":"A single dose ofPfizerorModerna'sCovid-19vaccines was 80% effective in preventing coronavirus infections, according to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study of vaccinated health-care workers. The effectiveness of partial immunization was seen two weeks after the first dose, according to the CDC, which looked at nearly 4,000 health care personnel, first responders and frontline workers between Dec. 14 and March 13. Schumer, D-N.Y., hopes to convince the chamber’s parliamentarian to allow Democrats to use the process at least once more beyond those two opportunities, according to NBC News.\nThe party passed its $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package without a Republican vote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":206,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355373281,"gmtCreate":1617031424943,"gmtModify":1704801165013,"author":{"id":"3574376913793228","authorId":"3574376913793228","name":"Cychu","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574376913793228","authorIdStr":"3574376913793228"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"OMG","listText":"OMG","text":"OMG","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/355373281","repostId":"2123518862","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2123518862","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617030636,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2123518862?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-29 23:10","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nio, XPeng File For Hong Kong Listings: Report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2123518862","media":"Benzinga","summary":"NIO Limited and XPeng Inc. have made further progress in their endeavor to pursue a listing outside of the U.S.What Happened: Nio and XPeng have filed regulatory applications to list their shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange, local Chinese media outlet cls.cn reported, citing people familiar with the matter.Li Auto Inc. has yet to submit its application, the report said.Nio and XPeng spokespeople declined to comment on the report when contacted by Benzinga. The news of the Chinese EV trio —","content":"

\n
NIO Limited (NYSE: NIO) and XPeng Inc. (NYSE: XPEV) have made further progress in their endeavor to pursue a listing outside of the U.S.
\n
What Happened: Nio and XPeng have filed regulatory applications to list their shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange, local Chinese media outlet cls.cn reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
\n
Li Auto Inc. (NASDAQ: LI) has yet to submit its application, the report said.
\n
Nio and XPeng spokespeople declined to comment on the report when contacted by Benzinga.
\n
The news of the Chinese EV trio — Nio, XPeng and Li Auto — contemplating Hong Kong listings was initially broken by Reuters in early March.
