the pressure on many high growth stocks. As we all get ready to welcome summer days that more closely resemble our pre-pandemic lives, the markets are rotating away from the growth stocks it favored during lockdowns and quarantines, especially tech shares.
\n
For instance, the tech-heavyNASDAQ 100index is down more than 4% since the start of May. we want to be a multi-planet species,” Musk said on Friday.\nWhile the company is flying astronauts with its Falcon 9 rockets and Crew Dragon capsules, SpaceX is working to develop Starship: An enormous stainless steel rocket, designed to be fully reusable and carry people to the moon and Mars.\n\nSpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk remains focused on his vision for the company: Establishing a permanent human presence on Mars, with its Starship rockets carrying people to and from the red planet.\n“We don’t want to be one of those single planet species, we want to be a multi-planet species,” Musk said on Friday, speaking after the company launched its Crew-2 mission to orbit.\n“It’s been now almost half a century since humans were last on the moon. That’s too long, we need to get back there and have a permanent base on the moon — again, like a big permanently occupied base on the moon. And then build a city on Mars to become a spacefaring civilization, a multi-planet species,” Musk also said.\nStarship is the enormous stainless steel rocket that SpaceX has been building and testing at its development facility in Boca Chica, Texas. Starship’s goal is to launch cargo and people on missions to the moon and Mars. Current Starship prototypes stand at about 150 feet tall, or about the size of a 15-story building, and each one is powered by three Raptor rocket engines.\nStarship prototype rocket SN10 stands on the launchpad at the company’s facility in Boca Chica, Texas.\nMusk has previously estimated that it will cost about $5 billion to fully develop Starship, although SpaceX has not disclosed how much it has spent on the program to date. The company has steadily raised funds in the past few years, to fund both Starship and its similarly ambitious Starlink project, with SpaceX’s valuation soaring to about $74 billion— making it one of the most valuable private companies in the world.\nAdditionally, SpaceX last week won a $2.9 billion contract from NASA, to help the space agency land astronauts on the moon’s surface with the first crewed mission targeting 2024.\n″[Starship has] mostly been funded internally thus far and it’s pretty expensive. As you can tell, if you’ve been watching videos, we’ve blown up a few of them,” Musk said.\nThe company has performed multiple successful test flights of Starship, although landing attempts after the last four high-altitude flights ended in fiery explosions. Despite the the prototypes’ destruction, SpaceX sees the test flights as progress toward creating a rocket that is fully reusable. SpaceX’s current Falcon fleet of rockets is partially reusable, as the company can land and reuse the rocket’s boosters.\nBut Musk hopes Starship transforms space travel into something more akin to commercial air travel. The rocket’s enormous size would also make it capable of launching several times as much cargo at once — for comparison, while SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets can send as many as 60 Starlink satellites at a time, SpaceX says Starship will be able to launch 400 Starlink satellites at a time.\nMusk remains “highly confident” that SpaceX will land humans on Mars by 2026, saying last December that it’s an achievable goal “about six years from now.” He added that SpaceX plans to send a Starship rocket without crew “in two years.”\nAn artist rendering of SpaceX’s Starship rockets on the surface of Mars.\nIn the meantime, SpaceX has many milestones to go before Starship can carry passengers. The rocket has yet to reach orbit. Musk last year said that the company will fly “hundreds of missions with satellites before we put people on board.”\nMusk may be focused on Mars, but the hurdles of Starship’s development are not lost on the space billionaire.\n“It’s a tough vehicle to build because we’re trying to crack this nut of a rapid and fully reusable rocket,” Musk said. “But the thing that’s really important to revolutionize space is a rapidly reusable rocket that’s reliable, too.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":55,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":379640069,"gmtCreate":1618733433551,"gmtModify":1704714447610,"author":{"id":"3574493331025980","authorId":"3574493331025980","name":"Xanpai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1404507036c15c65bd9510e63c95e668","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574493331025980","authorIdStr":"3574493331025980"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good fed","listText":"Good fed","text":"Good fed","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/379640069","repostId":"1165321503","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165321503","pubTimestamp":1618588143,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1165321503?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-16 23:49","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Fed’s Waller says the economy is ‘ready to rip’ but policy should stay put","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165321503","media":"cnbc","summary":"KEY POINTSFed Governor Christopher Waller told CNBC on Friday that the economy “is ready to rip.Howe","content":"
\n
KEY POINTSFed Governor Christopher Waller told CNBC on Friday that the economy “is ready to rip. However, he said there’s still “no reason to be pulling the plug” on the heavy levels of policy support ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; We get 70% of the population vaccinated, then all the fundamentals are there for good, strong growth that we left back in January, February of 2020,” he said. “We’ve still got room to catch up to where we were. We’re making up for lost ground.”‘No reason to be pulling the plug’The economy officially entered recession in February 2020, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, which makes the official call on contractions and expansions. While the U.S. is poised for another quarter of strong growth, gross domestic product is still running a bit below where it was prior to the Covid-19 onset. That’s part of the reason Waller concurs with his fellow central bankers in seeingthe need to keep policy loose. The Fed is currently holding short-term borrowing rates near zero while it purchases at least $120 billion of bonds each month. In a major policy shift last year, the Fed pledged that it will not raise rates until it sees full and inclusive employment, and is willing to tolerate inflation a bit above the traditional 2% target until it gets there. Fed officials have expressed concern about the uneven nature of the recovery, particularly regarding those at the lower end of the income spectrum.“We’ve got to make that up first,” Waller said. “Other parts of the economy seem to have really come back. We still have relatively high unemployment rates, particularly for minorities, and so we’ve still got a long way to go. There are still huge risks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1171122528","media":"cnn","summary":"London (CNN Business) Finally, some good news: The outlook for the global economy is clearly improvi","content":"
London (CNN Business) Finally, some good news: The outlook for the global economy is clearly improving.

What's happening: The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development unveiled major upgrades to its global forecast on Tuesday. It said that \"economic prospects have improved markedly in recent months,\" pointing to the deployment of coronavirus vaccines and additional stimulus announcements.

The Paris-based agency now expects the world economy to grow by 5.6% in 2021, an improvement of more than one percentage point from its estimate in December.

The US economy is predicted to expand by 6.5% this year, over three percentage points better than the December forecast. The agency pointed to the effects of \"strong fiscal support\" from President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus package.

But the OECD also emphasized that extreme uncertainty remains, and that plenty of factors could jeopardize the recovery.

One example: Investors have become increasingly concerned that a rush of activity could trigger a spike in prices later this year, forcing central banks to raise interest rates or taper bond purchases sooner than expected.

According to the OECD, a rebound in demand, especially from China, is pushing up food and metals prices, while oil prices have staged a strong comeback. But the group said it will be essential for policymakers to keep the stimulus coming, even if inflation overshoots some targets.

The possibility of a sharp rise in prices is far from the only fear.

The agency noted that vaccine campaigns are moving at different speeds around the world, and coronavirus variants that resist vaccines could still emerge.

\"Slow progress in vaccine rollout and the emergence of new virus mutations resistant to existing vaccines would result in a weaker recovery, larger job losses and more business failures,\" it said in its report.

The OECD also said that it's essential that governments maintain their support for the economy even as the situation starts to brighten. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has issued a similar warning, cautioning that countries should not \"brutally\" pull stimulus.

\"A premature tightening of fiscal policy must be avoided,\" the group said.

Another worry is high levels of debt. The OECD focused on corporate debt loads, in particular, with debt servicing burdens at or above their level during the 2008 financial crisis even though interest rates are at historic lows.

\"Although some firms have used borrowing to build up sizable cash buffers since the onset of the pandemic, high leverage could moderate new investment,\" it said. If the recovery is slower than expected, or government support programs end too soon, this could \"trigger additional debt delinquencies or defaults.\"

Right now, these are just hypotheticals. But so are expectations of booming growth, which are due to play out in the coming months. The OECD report is a reminder that while the outlook is brightening, it's also tentative.

These stocks are thriving while Big Tech gets hammered

Tech companies are clearly the big losers in markets right now. Apple is nearing bear market territory, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite entered a correction on Monday, having dropped 10.5% below the record it notched in mid-February.

But plenty of firms are benefiting from the stock market rotation, as investors give companies they'd dumped earlier in the pandemic a second look.

See here: Disney (DIS) shares jumped more than 6% Monday, while Visa (V) and American Express (AXP) both rose 2%.

These firms all stand to benefit if a strong economic rebound materializes later this year, sparking a surge in travel and consumer spending. They're getting more attention as Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus bill heads back to the House of Representatives, where it's on track for a final vote Wednesday.

Other winners: Shares of Southwest Airlines (LUV) gained 6.4% on Monday, while Gap (GPS) rose 5.8%. JPMorgan Chase's stock rose more than 1%.

This divide — fueled by Wall Street's growing interest in shares that may be undervalued — helps explain why the major US stock indexes have diverged in recent days. While the Nasdaq Composite plunged 2.4% on Monday, the Dow rose almost 1%.

Analysts think the trend could continue if government bond yields keep pushing higher, making high-growth tech companies less attractive.

\"The imminent passage of another huge fiscal support package in the US adds to our conviction that the reflation and rotation trends currently underway in bond and equity markets both have further to run,\" Oliver Jones, senior markets economist at Capital Economics, said in a note to clients.

ViacomCBS shares are riding high

There's no escaping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's blockbuster interview with Oprah this week. That's good news for ViacomCBS (VIACA), which aired the interview in the United States.

Shares of the media giant soared nearly 13% on Monday, reaching an all-time high. The interview drew 17 million viewers when it aired Sunday, according to Nielsen's TV ratings scale.

Some context: CBS averaged 6.5 million viewers in prime time the previous Sunday night, my CNN Business colleague Brian Stelter reports. The two-hour special was also higher-rated than the most recent Emmys and Golden Globes award telecasts.

Watch this space: ViacomCBS shares were already riding high thanks to the launch of its Paramount+ streaming service, which debuted earlier this month. One example: Investors have become increasingly concerned that a rush of activity could trigger a spike in prices later this year, forcing central banks to raise interest rates or taper bond purchases sooner than expected.According to the OECD, a rebound in demand, especially from China, is pushing up food and metals prices, while oil prices have staged a strong comeback. But the group said it will be essential for policymakers to keep the stimulus coming, even if inflation overshoots some targets. The possibility of a sharp rise in prices is far from the only fear. The agency noted that vaccine campaigns are moving at different speeds around the world, and coronavirus variants that resist vaccines could still emerge.\"Slow progress in vaccine rollout and the emergence of new virus mutations resistant to existing vaccines would result in a weaker recovery, larger job losses and more business failures,\" it said in its report. The OECD also said that it's essential that governments maintain their support for the economy even as the situation starts to brighten. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has issued a similar warning, cautioning that countries should not \"brutally\" pull stimulus.\"A premature tightening of fiscal policy must be avoided,\" the group said.Another worry is high levels of debt. The OECD focused on corporate debt loads, in particular, with debt servicing burdens at or above their level during the 2008 financial crisis even though interest rates are at historic lows.\"Although some firms have used borrowing to build up sizable cash buffers since the onset of the pandemic, high leverage could moderate new investment,\" it said. If the recovery is slower than expected, or government support programs end too soon, this could \"trigger additional debt delinquencies or defaults.\"Right now, these are just hypotheticals. But so are expectations of booming growth, which are due to play out in the coming months. The OECD report is a reminder that while the outlook is brightening, it's also tentative. These stocks are thriving while Big Tech gets hammeredTech companies are clearly the big losers in markets right now. Apple is nearing bear market territory, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite entered a correction on Monday, having dropped 10.5% below the record it notched in mid-February.But plenty of firms are benefiting from the stock market rotation, as investors give companies they'd dumped earlier in the pandemic a second look.See here: Disney (DIS) shares jumped more than 6% Monday, while Visa (V) and American Express (AXP) both rose 2%.These firms all stand to benefit if a strong economic rebound materializes later this year, sparking a surge in travel and consumer spending. They're getting more attention as Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus bill heads back to the House of Representatives, where it's on track for a final vote Wednesday.Other winners: Shares of Southwest Airlines (LUV) gained 6.4% on Monday, while Gap (GPS) rose 5.8%. JPMorgan Chase's stock rose more than 1%.This divide — fueled by Wall Street's growing interest in shares that may be undervalued — helps explain why the major US stock indexes have diverged in recent days. While the Nasdaq Composite plunged 2.4% on Monday, the Dow rose almost 1%.Analysts think the trend could continue if government bond yields keep pushing higher, making high-growth tech companies less attractive.\"The imminent passage of another huge fiscal support package in the US adds to our conviction that the reflation and rotation trends currently underway in bond and equity markets both have further to run,\" Oliver Jones, senior markets economist at Capital Economics, said in a note to clients.ViacomCBS shares are riding highThere's no escaping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's blockbuster interview with Oprah this week. That's good news for ViacomCBS (VIACA), which aired the interview in the United States.Shares of the media giant soared nearly 13% on Monday, reaching an all-time high. The interview drew 17 million viewers when it aired Sunday, according to Nielsen's TV ratings scale. Some context: CBS averaged 6.5 million viewers in prime time the previous Sunday night, my CNN Business colleague Brian Stelter reports. The two-hour special was also higher-rated than the most recent Emmys and Golden Globes award telecasts.Watch this space: ViacomCBS shares were already riding high thanks to the launch of its Paramount+ streaming service, which debuted earlier this month. Whether the run-up can continue may depend on how many subscribers the company can nab in an increasingly crowded space.Up nextThe Children's Place (PLCE) and Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) report results before US markets open. H&R Block (HRB) follows after the close.Coming tomorrow: A key measure of inflation for February will provide fresh insight for investors nervous about higher prices.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":11,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":384670447,"gmtCreate":1613651977989,"gmtModify":1704883210205,"author":{"id":"3574493331025980","authorId":"3574493331025980","name":"Xanpai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1404507036c15c65bd9510e63c95e668","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574493331025980","authorIdStr":"3574493331025980"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Finally some excitement ","listText":"Finally some excitement ","text":"Finally some excitement","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/384670447","repostId":"1102078157","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1102078157","pubTimestamp":1613643052,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1102078157?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-18 18:10","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"Singapore Exchange hopes to list SPACs as early as this year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1102078157","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"[SINGAPORE] The Singapore Exchange (SGX)could list blank-cheque companies this year if it gets enoug","content":"
[SINGAPORE] The Singapore Exchange (SGX)could list blank-cheque companies this year if it gets enough support from the industry.

An impending marketconsultation on special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC)this quarter could take some time to get feedback, chief executive officer (CEO) Loh Boon Chye said in an interview Wednesday.

\"If the market is supportive, we hope to be able to do that sometime this year.\"

SPACs became a buzzword last year, sprouting by the dozen as the rich and famous - from hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman to former US Speaker of the House Paul Ryan - and private equity firms rushed to set up new ones.

SPACs are increasingly seen as an appealing alternative route to public markets because the process avoids the risk and uncertainty of an initial public offering, though they've also been criticised for their structure, where managers - the founders - collect fees as an incentive to find a target and complete a deal.
