Facedrive (TSXV:FD,OTC:FDVRF)</b></p>\n<p>Smart investors may be eyeing Facedrive (TSXV:FD,OTC:FDVRF) as a promising name with solid potential upside, even after having a banner year last year.</p>\n<p>Those who invested a year ago were able to more than double their money during a very tough year for most companies.</p>\n<p>But with a modest market cap compared to their competitors, we think there’s still plenty of room for this fast-mover to grow in the coming months.</p>\n<p>That's because the green ridesharing company has been making partnership deals and acquisitions left and right, and they show no signs of slowing down.</p>\n<p>And that’s helped them to gain the attention of retail investing websites like Motley Fool and several others.</p>\n<p>It seems that while Facedrive has been building up to this moment for years, it's coming into it at the perfect time.</p>\n<p>With the world finally re-opening after a year of lockdowns just as the EV rush is making headlines again, it's the perfect recipe for the success of green ridesharing.</p>\n<p>Facedrive's signature ridesharing service allows riders to take their pick between catching a ride in an EV, hybrid, or gas-powered vehicle.</p>\n<p>But while ridesharing was where it all started, they've taken off in exciting new directions with the help of their unique verticals.</p>\n<p>Today, they've spun the EV enthusiasm out into several apps with thousands of downloads...</p>\n<p>They've turned it into apparel partnerships with A-list celebrities Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith...</p>\n<p>And they've even branched out to develop contact tracing technology being implemented by Air Canada and a Canadian provincial government, to help fight the spread of COVID-19.</p>\n<p>This creative mindset helped them take a quick left turn when ridesharing hit some bumps in 2020, continuing to grow even while people were homebound.</p>\n<p>That's when they began making acquisitions within their Facedrive Foods delivery service.</p>\n<p>The company says these acquisitions led them to start making thousands of contactless food deliveries, using electric vehicles to bring people gourmet meals from their favorite restaurants.</p>\n<p>And as that's steadily grown over the last year, the company reports they're now fulfilling over 5,000 deliveries per day on average.</p>\n<p>But Facedrive's latest big hit came thanks to their acquisition of Steer, the subscription-based EV model.</p>\n<p>Now, instead of footing the $40,000 bill to get a new EV truck, customers can get in and drive their own at just a small fraction of that cost.</p>\n<p>After paying a monthly subscription fee similar to Netflix, Steer customers are able to take their pick from a line of high-end electric vehicles they can take home and use whenever they'd like.</p>\n<p>They can drive it as their own for as long as they're a monthly subscriber. Or if they'd like to swap it out for another from their digital showroom, they can make a trade whenever they'd like.</p>\n<p>The company reports this unique new model has been a growing success in the last 9 months.</p>\n<p>So much so that they've gone from only operating in the Washington D.C. area to crossing the border and moving into Canada.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/216edc479cbe360ae15cfbc56ef7f83d\" tg-width=\"450\" tg-height=\"450\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Steer just recently launched in Toronto, making their EV subscription model available to 2 of the biggest metro areas in North America.</p>\n<p>And after this initial phase, they’re probably already planning next steps to expand over the rest of the United States and Canada.</p>\n<p><b>3 - Rivian</b></p>\n<p>Rivian is another red-hot EV company making news lately because of their R1T truck.</p>\n<p>The R1T could soon start the wave of new EV sales as this new model is set to go public in June.</p>\n<p>Rivian has already been making headlines over the last year thanks in part to their landmark deal with Amazon.</p>\n<p>Amazon has made it known that they plan to go electric with their delivery trucks.</p>\n<p>They began testing Rivian trucks earlier this year. And they're expected to transition 10,000 of their vans to electric by 2022.</p>\n<p>That number could soar to over 100,000 vans by 2030.</p>\n<p>If all goes well for Rivian, it could turn out to be a massive deal that would quickly make them one of the biggest names in the space.</p>\n<p>But while everyone's waiting on Rivian going public for their chance to invest...</p>\n<p>They remain private at the moment, with nothing but an enormous amount of speculation around when they'll IPO and give everyday folks a chance to profit in the process.</p>\n<p><b>The Beginning of the EV Takeover?</b></p>\n<p>Thanks to Biden's big proposed $2.5 trillion gamble, we could soon see the EV industry move from being a fringe movement years ago to one day overtaking gas-powered vehicles.</p>\n<p>And while there are plenty of ways to play the EV boom in the days ahead, we're keeping an eye on ones already making big moves like Ford, Rivian, and Facedrive.</p>\n<p><b>Other Giant Automakers Are Getting Into The Game</b></p>\n<p><b>General Motors (NYSE:GM)</b> is one Detroit’s old school automakers, and it’s looking to catch a ride on the EV bandwagon, benefiting from a shift from gas-powered to alternative technology such as hydrogen and electricity. It’s now well over 100 years old and has survived where many others have failed. Even with the downfall of Detroit, GM has persisted, and that’s due in large part to its ability to adapt. In fact, GM’s dive into alternative fuels began way back in 1966 when it produced the world’s first ever hydrogen powered van. And it has not stopped innovating, either.</p>\n<p>Recently, GM dropped a bomb on the market with the announcement of its new business unit, BrightDrop. The company is looking to capture a key share of the burgeoning delivery market, with plans to sell electric vans and services to commercial delivery companies.</p>\n<p>GM isn’t just betting big on EVs, either. It’s also looking to capitalize on the autonomous vehicle boom. Recently, it announced that it’s majority-owned subsidiary, Cruise, has just received approval from the California DMV to test its autonomous vehicles without a driver. And while they’re not the first to receive such an approval, it’s still huge news for GM.</p>\n<p><b>Toyota Motors (NYSE:TM), </b> for example, is a leader in the industry. Beginning with the Prius, Toyota has been on the cutting edge of green transportation for years and years. And now, it has developed a fuel cell system module and looks to start selling it after the spring this year in a bid to promote hydrogen use and help the world achieve carbon neutrality goals, the world’s largest car manufacturer said in February.</p>\n<p>According to Toyota, the new module can be used by companies developing fuel cell (FC) applications for trucks, buses, trains, and ships, as well as stationary generators.</p>\n<p>The fuel cell system module can be directly connected to an existing electrical instrument provided with a motor, inverter, and battery, Toyota said, noting that the modularization significantly improves convenience.</p>\n<p><b>Chinese EV Companies Making Major Moves</b></p>\n<p><b>Nio Limited</b> <b>(NYSE:NIO)</b> is one of Tesla’s most exciting new competitors, dominating the Chinese EV markets. After a rough start after going public in 2018, it’s been on a tear, producing vehicles with record-breaking range.</p>\n<p>Just a year ago, no one could have imagined how successful the Nio was going to be. In fact, many shareholders were ready to write off their losses and give up on the company. But China’s answer to Tesla’s dominance powered on, eclipsed estimates, and most importantly, kept its balance sheet in line. And it’s paid off. In a big way.</p>\n<p>Nio has made all the right moves over the past year to turn heads on the streets and in the marketplace... From its stunningly beautiful - and fast - EP9 supercar to its new line of family-friendly high-performance sedans, Nio is well on its way to retaking control of its local market from Elon Musk’s electric vehicle giant. And as Chinese EV sales continue to soar…Nio’s already-impressive ascension to electric superstar is only going to accelerate from here.</p>\n<p><b>Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI)</b> is another up-and-comer in the Chinese electric vehicle space. And while it may not be a veteran in the market like Tesla or even NIO, it’s quickly making waves on Wall Street. Backed by Chinese giants Meituan and Bytedance, Li has taken a different approach to the electric vehicle market. Instead of opting for pure-electric cars, it is giving consumers a choice with its stylish crossover hybrid SUV. This popular vehicle can be powered with gasoline or electricity, taking the edge off drivers who may not have a charging station or a gas station nearby.</p>\n<p>Though it just hit the NASDAQ in July of last year, the company has already seen its stock price more than double. Especially in the past month during the massive EV runup that netted investors triple-digit returns. It’s already worth more than $30 billion but it’s just getting started. And as the EV boom accelerates into high-gear, the sky is the limit for Li and its competitors.</p>\n<p><b>Canda Won’t Be Left Behind In The Electric Vehicle Boom</b></p>\n<p><b>GreenPower Motor (TSX:GPV) </b>is an exciting company that produces larger-scale electric transportation. Right now, it is primarily focused on the North American market, but the sky is the limit as the pressure to go green grows. GreenPower has been on the frontlines of the electric movement, manufacturing affordable battery-electric busses and trucks for over ten years. From school busses to long-distance public transit, GreenPower’s impact on the sector can’t be ignored.</p>\n<p><b>NFI Group (TSX:NFI)</b> is another one of Canada’s most exciting electric mass-transit makers. Though it has not yet rebounded from January highs, NFI still offers investors a promising opportunity to capitalize on the electric vehicle boom at a discount. Currently, it produces an SUV that goes under the name G3 and a sedan that's called P7. In addition, the company plans to release an upgraded version of its SUV called G3i in September and a new family-friendly sedan P5 by the end of the year. Overall, XPeng's stock showed decent results in recent months, as it has outperformed the S&P 500 Index for most of the last year, and is currently up ~5% since our latest article about its business was published in June.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/51f7c530182ce2c7abde426fcff7f474\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"443\"><span>Chart: Seeking Alpha</span></p>\n<p>One of the biggest achievements of XPeng is that it has managed to successfully navigate through the initial stages of the chip shortage crisis and made a lot of progress on improving its deliveries. The latestdatasuggests that there's still a strong demand for its offerings among tech-savvy Chinese consumers, as in June alone the company delivered a record 6,565 vehicles, an increase of 617% Y/Y. In addition, its Q2 deliveries were 17,398, up 439% Y/Y, while its 1H deliveries were 30,738 vehicles, up 459% Y/Y. Another good news is that the company's Q2 deliveries beat its projections of 15,500 - 16,000 units despite the pandemic and there's every reason to believe that the momentum is very likely to hold until the end of the year at the very least.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0479a72617e0ff9759beb7f820fc0494\" tg-width=\"925\" tg-height=\"445\"><span>Source:InsideEVs</span></p>\n<p>The biggest advantage of XPeng is that it operates in China, which is considered to be the biggest EV market in the world. Thanks to it, XPeng doesn't need to outsource its manufacturing or sales to other countries as it has a huge local market to sell to back at home. What's more important is that it also has strong governmental support, as some of its manufacturing facilities that are currently being built were co-financed by Chinese local governments. By receiving such help, XPeng is now on track to complete its third manufacturing facility in Wuhan, which will help it to reach an annual capacity of at least 300,000 vehicles. For comparison, Tesla (TSLA) in 2020 sold only 137,000 Model 3s in China. Therefore, an increase of the capacity to such substantial numbers signals that XPeng is ready to tackle the competition and increase its traction across the mainland going forward.</p>\n<p>Another important fact is that XPeng is more technologically advanced in China than Tesla and others. Almost half of its R&D workforce works on autonomous driving software, and as a result, the company has managed to develop one of the most advanced navigation systems, which should help it to become one of the first to reach Level 5 automation in the following years. On top of that, over 5 million kilometers were alreadydrivenwith the help of the navigation system since its launch earlier this year, and the latest version of the software can now automaticallyparkthe car in garages without human help if it remembers the spot in which the vehicle was parked before.</p>\n<p><b>Risks</b></p>\n<p>As for the risks, we see a couple of them. First of all, XPengtradesat a price-to-sales ratio of ~16x and could be considered richly valued at its current market cap of around $37 billion. For that reason, it's not a good investment for long-term value shareholders, and for those who don't want to expose their portfolios to Chinese assets.</p>\n<p>In addition, there's a risk that the start of the potential China-US trade war could prevent XPeng from accessing the US capital markets, as its current shares could be delisted. To tackle this issue, the company just recentlyraisednearly $2 billion by executing another IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange with a double main listing structure. This will help the company not only to have an access to the major capital market, but it will also give the Chinese mainland investors the ability to buy the stock through the Hong Kong Stock Connect, which should boost XPeng's valuation in the near future. On top of that, since XPeng's business doesn't have major exposure to outside markets, the blowback from the potential trade war will be minimal.</p>\n<p><b>Takeaway</b></p>\n<p>Despite those risks, we should not forget that China is on track to significantly decrease its carbon footprint in the next four decades. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the penetration rate of electric vehicles on Chinese roads is only going to increase in the following decades. As a result, we believe that there's plenty of room for XPeng to drive growth at this stage, and considering its great performance in Q2, we also believe that it has all the chances to become one of the biggest EV manufacturers in the region.</p>\n<p>The latest forecast suggests that XPeng could increase its revenues by 364% from $0.9 million in FY20 to $4.18 billion in FY22, while its EPS loss is also expected todecreasefrom -$0.33 in Q2'21 to only -$0.06 in Q3 and Q4. On top of that, the companyhad$5.12 billion in cash at the end of Q1, only $497 million in long-term debt, and thanks to the recent Honk Kong offering its liquidity position is already around $7 billion. As a result, XPeng doesn't have an overleveraged balance sheet, and thanks to the influx of new cash it's very unlikely that it'll be required to raise new debt or dilute its shareholders by offering new shares to fund its expansion. Therefore, we believe that its stock could be considered a growth play, especially since it has beenaddedto FTSE's indexes recently, which should help it to attract more attention from institutional investors.</p>\n<p>With all of this in mind, we also think that right now is a good entry point to purchase the company's shares, as the likely increase in deliveries and capacity along with the launch of the upcoming P5 sedan in the following months could push its stock to higher levels. The latestdatasuggests that there's still a strong demand for its offerings among tech-savvy Chinese consumers, as in June alone the company delivered a record 6,565 vehicles, an increase of 617% Y/Y. In addition, its Q2 deliveries were 17,398, up 439% Y/Y, while its 1H deliveries were 30,738 vehicles, up 459% Y/Y. Another good news is that the company's Q2 deliveries beat its projections of 15,500 - 16,000 units despite the pandemic and there's every reason to believe that the momentum is very likely to hold until the end of the year at the very least.\nSource:InsideEVs\nThe biggest advantage of XPeng is that it operates in China, which is considered to be the biggest EV market in the world. Thanks to it, XPeng doesn't need to outsource its manufacturing or sales to other countries as it has a huge local market to sell to back at home. What's more important is that it also has strong governmental support, as some of its manufacturing facilities that are currently being built were co-financed by Chinese local governments. By receiving such help, XPeng is now on track to complete its third manufacturing facility in Wuhan, which will help it to reach an annual capacity of at least 300,000 vehicles. For comparison, Tesla (TSLA) in 2020 sold only 137,000 Model 3s in China. Therefore, an increase of the capacity to such substantial numbers signals that XPeng is ready to tackle the competition and increase its traction across the mainland going forward.\nAnother important fact is that XPeng is more technologically advanced in China than Tesla and others. Almost half of its R&D workforce works on autonomous driving software, and as a result, the company has managed to develop one of the most advanced navigation systems, which should help it to become one of the first to reach Level 5 automation in the following years. On top of that, over 5 million kilometers were alreadydrivenwith the help of the navigation system since its launch earlier this year, and the latest version of the software can now automaticallyparkthe car in garages without human help if it remembers the spot in which the vehicle was parked before.\nRisks\nAs for the risks, we see a couple of them. First of all, XPengtradesat a price-to-sales ratio of ~16x and could be considered richly valued at its current market cap of around $37 billion. For that reason, it's not a good investment for long-term value shareholders, and for those who don't want to expose their portfolios to Chinese assets.\nIn addition, there's a risk that the start of the potential China-US trade war could prevent XPeng from accessing the US capital markets, as its current shares could be delisted. To tackle this issue, the company just recentlyraisednearly $2 billion by executing another IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange with a double main listing structure. This will help the company not only to have an access to the major capital market, but it will also give the Chinese mainland investors the ability to buy the stock through the Hong Kong Stock Connect, which should boost XPeng's valuation in the near future. On top of that, since XPeng's business doesn't have major exposure to outside markets, the blowback from the potential trade war will be minimal.\nTakeaway\nDespite those risks, we should not forget that China is on track to significantly decrease its carbon footprint in the next four decades. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the penetration rate of electric vehicles on Chinese roads is only going to increase in the following decades. As a result, we believe that there's plenty of room for XPeng to drive growth at this stage, and considering its great performance in Q2, we also believe that it has all the chances to become one of the biggest EV manufacturers in the region.\nThe latest forecast suggests that XPeng could increase its revenues by 364% from $0.9 million in FY20 to $4.18 billion in FY22, while its EPS loss is also expected todecreasefrom -$0.33 in Q2'21 to only -$0.06 in Q3 and Q4. On top of that, the companyhad$5.12 billion in cash at the end of Q1, only $497 million in long-term debt, and thanks to the recent Honk Kong offering its liquidity position is already around $7 billion. As a result, XPeng doesn't have an overleveraged balance sheet, and thanks to the influx of new cash it's very unlikely that it'll be required to raise new debt or dilute its shareholders by offering new shares to fund its expansion. Therefore, we believe that its stock could be considered a growth play, especially since it has beenaddedto FTSE's indexes recently, which should help it to attract more attention from institutional investors.\nWith all of this in mind, we also think that right now is a good entry point to purchase the company's shares, as the likely increase in deliveries and capacity along with the launch of the upcoming P5 sedan in the following months could push its stock to higher levels. Without a cord, the earbud gets its power from a tiny cylindrical battery that has about 1% of the capacity of an iPhone’s battery.\nBut lithium-ion batteries, like those used by the AirPods, wear out the more they are used.\nSome owners have noticed that, after a few years, used AirPods eventually will last only an hour or so before needing to be recharged -- a big decay from the four-to-five-hour battery life they have when new. Because each AirPod is so small and so tightly packed into its housing, it’s almost impossible to swap out the old battery for a new one. Most people give up and just buy a new pair.\nThe limited lifespan of AirPods is exactly the kind of problem that the “right-to-repair” movement wants to fix. Repair shops and lobbyists that support repair reform want lawmakers to implement a variety of rules, including increased access to manuals and official parts and consumer protections around warranties.\nBut one of their most important requests is for companies to design products with repair in mind, instead of packing gadgets with unlabeled parts and sticking them together with glue, forcing users to use a knife to take them apart.\nThis desire puts repair advocates at odds with hardware companies like Apple, whose business models depend on customers upgrading to the latest model every few years. When Apple offered cheap iPhone battery repairs a few years ago, it hurt sales as consumers were able to hang on to their old phones for longer instead of upgrading. Apple also charges customers for repairs and extended warranties.\n“We design our products for durability in order to minimize the need for repair,” Apple wrote in an environmental report earlier this year. “But in the instance a repair is needed, we believe our customers should have convenient access to safe and reliable repair services, to get their product back up and running as quickly as possible.”\nThe right-to-repair movement gains steam\nPolicymakers have started to engage more closely with right-to-repair advocates in recent years. State-level bills have been introduced in a majority of states, but electronics companies have lobbied against them and none have passed.\nIn May, the Federal Trade Commission released a 56-page report on repair restrictions, concluding that repair restrictions have “steered consumers into manufacturers’ repair networks or to replace products before the end of their useful lives” — exactly the problem users are running into with their AirPods.\nThe Biden administration on Friday ordered the FTC to write new regulations targeted at limiting manufacturers’ ability to hamper independent or do-it-yourself repairs as part of a sweeping executive order. New repair rules have not yet been drafted.\n“Tech and other companies impose restrictions on self and third-party repairs, making repairs more costly and time-consuming, such as by restricting the distribution of parts, diagnostics, and repair tools,” the White House wrote in a fact sheet about the order on Friday, linking to a story about fixing Apple products. Apple declined to comment on the White House executive order.\nThe FTC has not said what it plans to do, but repair advocates want a few key policy changes, as detailed in its May report. They want companies to be required to make official replacement parts available. They want access to tools that could make repairs easier without reverse-engineering the tools or parts themselves. And ultimately, they want products to be designed with longer lifespans.\nApple is not the only company that would be affected by these policies. Much of the recent pressure is on medical device companies and tractor manufacturers. But given Apple’s ubiquity, it has become a poster child for repair, especially because it promotes its environmental efforts as a corporate value.\nApple has launched a program it calls the “Independent Repair Program” which gives repair shops the option to enter into a certification process and contract with Apple in order to get access to authentic Apple parts, tools and manuals.\nApple has also reduced the price of its battery replacement for iPhones, and recent models have been designed to make it easier to replace a battery or cracked screen, according to iFixit. Plus, compared to other consumer electronics companies, Apple has a large existing network of stores and authorized repair shops.\nStill, many Apple products remain challenging to repair at home or as a business with no contact with Apple.\nThe only AirPods battery replacement company\niFixit, a company that provides disassembly instructions and sells replacement parts for gadgets, gives AirPods models a score of zero out of 10 for repairability. According to iFixit, repairing these earbuds involves soldering, hot air guns and slicing through glue — that is, if replacement battery parts are even available. In the end, a would-be home repairer would have to put the four-gram computer back together again.\nApple provides “battery service” for AirPods, at the cost of $49 per earbud. But functionally, Apple simply gives you a replacement pair, and the old earbuds are recycled. It’s not a repair, it’s a replacement. And it’s expensive. AirPods originally cost $159, so opting for battery service costs more than half of the price of a new pair.\nApple sold about 72.8 million AirPods units in 2020, according to a CounterPoint research estimate, so tens of millions of consumers will face the same lack of choice in the coming years.\nPodSwap is a Miami company founded by Emma Stritzinger and Emily Alpert which aims to keep AirPods “out of the landfill.” They’re not associated with Apple.\nThey believe they’re the only company performing AirPod battery replacements, although other companies “refurbish” old AirPods, the founders told CNBC. The company was formed after the founders experienced dying AirPods themselves and thought that upgrading or replacing them would be wasteful and impractical.\nI recently replaced a pair of AirPods that were only holding a charge for 45 minutes -- too short to complete a phone call. I paid $59 on PodSwap’s Shopify site and a few days later received a replacement pair of AirPods with new batteries. They weren’t my old AirPods, they were another set that had their batteries replaced.\nAlong with those new pods, PodSwap includes a box and a return label. It wants your old AirPods back. It then cleans and sanitizes the old pair, puts in new batteries and sends them out to the next person who wants to change the battery in their old AirPods.\nBut PodSwap faces many challenges that show why repair advocates want new rules. Alpert said the design of the AirPod makes it challenging for repair shops or companies like theirs to do a lot of battery replacements. PodSwap’s process uses both robotics and manual labor, the founders said.\n“The process was developed through trial and error and a large number of units were ‘sacrificed’ and ultimately recycled. One major challenge we faced was overcoming the uniqueness of this product. Each AirPod is assembled with slight differences, which creates complexity in the disassembly,” Alpert said.\nPodSwap plans to soon offer service for the AirPods Pro, a newer model that costs $249 and are, surprisingly, powered by a standard-sized coin battery.\nBut the AirPods Pro have many of the same problems as the first model — tight tolerances, potential damage while taking them apart, a lack of replacement parts, and a design that suggests the product was always designed to last a limited time.\n“We have found the AirPods Pro’s batteries to be more difficult to replace,” Alpert said. “The ergonomic design and tight unforgiving tolerances make it exceptionally challenging to replace the batteries repeatedly, with a high degree of efficiency.”\nPodSwap wasn’t totally seamless for me — I got sent a combination of “first generation” and “second generation” AirPods. While the People’s Bank of China has said the cut to the reserve requirement ratio last week was a liquidity operation andnot a sign of a changein policy direction, the sudden and broad move took many by surprise and stoked concerns about the growth outlook.</p>\n<p>As well as the tapering of policy stimulus, the last quarter saw a range of headwinds to the economy, from surging raw materials prices to chip shortages in the automotive sector and localized virus outbreaksinterrupting exports. The data will show how much those sector specific issues hit overall growth.</p>\n<p>Premier Li Keqiang sounded a cautious note this week,warningthat the nation needs to prepare for cyclical risks and make counter-cyclical adjustments. The government should focus on supporting smaller companies, hesaid, but reiterated that the government shouldn’t adopt flood-like stimulus policies.</p>\n<p>Here are five things to look for in the second-quarter gross domestic product report and June activity data:</p>\n<p><b>Growth Momentum</b></p>\n<p>The sources that powered China’s recovery -- strong exports, property investment and industrial production -- remained solid in the first half of the year, but showed a moderation from the end of 2020 as developed economies normalized and Beijing tried to limit property speculation.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d62de752e140d95a8046bb510544ee1\" tg-width=\"656\" tg-height=\"383\"></p>\n<p>As a result economists expect headline GDP growth to slow markedly to 8% in the second quarter from the record 18.3% expansion seen in the first three months of the year. Beijing is likely to look beyond the headline number to determine whether growth is slowing and the economy needs further policy easing.</p>\n<p>To correct for that distortion, economists can look at official quarter-on-quarter growth, which is forecast to accelerate to 1% from 0.6% in the first quarter. The data is subject to frequent revisions though. The best alternative is to look at average two-year growth from 2019. By thatmeasure, the line for quarter-on-quarter acceleration is anything above 5%.</p>\n<p><b>Consumption and Re-Balancing</b></p>\n<p>Households arestill cautiousfollowing the pandemic shock to incomes. Early indicators such astourism spendingsuggested that remained the case in June, but the pace of consumer spending as showed by monthly retail sales has gradually picked up since the beginning of the year. The best gauge of momentum will be the 2-year growth rate, of retail sales, with areadingabove May’s figure of 4.5% seen as an improvement.</p>\n<p>“Near-real-time data show that online sales of some durable goods picked up month-on-month in June, after sharp declines in recent months,” analysts at Pantheon Macroeconomics said in a note. “We think this likely translated into a pick-up for the value of retail sales more generally, after two consecutive months of decline.”</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/edcd820eff398f16b1273046db161af1\" tg-width=\"644\" tg-height=\"389\">But even optimists expect retail growth will remain well below pre-pandemic rates of around 8%. That means the economy is short of “re-balancing” toward one driven by consumer demand.</p>\n<p>Unemployment data for June will show whether a tightening job market could help with that. Still, “China has a very long way to go before we can say that it is meaningfully re-balancing,” said Michael Pettis, a professor of finance at Peking University.</p>\n<p><b>Investment and Commodities</b></p>\n<p>The state of Chinese investment in property, manufacturing and infrastructure drives aglobal industrialand commodity cycle. Beijing tightened financing for property development in the first half of the year, while slow bond sales by local governments meant infrastructure investment was muted. Economists expect the slowing trend to continue, with fixed asset investment seen expanding 12% in the first half of the year, from the 15.4% increase recorded in January to May.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c061b86bce3452d247d1973772cbb712\" tg-width=\"649\" tg-height=\"386\"></p>\n<p>With base effects also at play, economists will look for a two-year average growth figure above 4.2% for the first half to indicate an acceleration. That could have been driven by year-to-date growth in manufacturing investment, whichturned positivefor the first time in the year to May. A bigger role for manufacturing investment could also mean that growth has become more sustainable.</p>\n<p>China sawrecord-breakingmonthly production of commodities such as steel in the second quarter as exports and property investment remained strong and prices for industrial goods surged. An upside surprise from production data will give support to the idea thatfactory gate inflationwill be temporary as supply catches up with demand.</p>\n<p><b>Policy Rescue</b></p>\n<p>If the data suggests a loss of momentum in the second quarter, Beijing is likely to try to avoid further deceleration. The latestdatasuggests that there's still a strong demand for its offerings among tech-savvy Chinese consumers, as in June alone the company delivered a record 6,565 vehicles, an increase of 617% Y/Y. In addition, its Q2 deliveries were 17,398, up 439% Y/Y, while its 1H deliveries were 30,738 vehicles, up 459% Y/Y. Another good news is that the company's Q2 deliveries beat its projections of 15,500 - 16,000 units despite the pandemic and there's every reason to believe that the momentum is very likely to hold until the end of the year at the very least.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0479a72617e0ff9759beb7f820fc0494\" tg-width=\"925\" tg-height=\"445\"><span>Source:InsideEVs</span></p>\n<p>The biggest advantage of XPeng is that it operates in China, which is considered to be the biggest EV market in the world. Thanks to it, XPeng doesn't need to outsource its manufacturing or sales to other countries as it has a huge local market to sell to back at home. What's more important is that it also has strong governmental support, as some of its manufacturing facilities that are currently being built were co-financed by Chinese local governments. By receiving such help, XPeng is now on track to complete its third manufacturing facility in Wuhan, which will help it to reach an annual capacity of at least 300,000 vehicles. For comparison, Tesla (TSLA) in 2020 sold only 137,000 Model 3s in China. Therefore, an increase of the capacity to such substantial numbers signals that XPeng is ready to tackle the competition and increase its traction across the mainland going forward.</p>\n<p>Another important fact is that XPeng is more technologically advanced in China than Tesla and others. Almost half of its R&D workforce works on autonomous driving software, and as a result, the company has managed to develop one of the most advanced navigation systems, which should help it to become one of the first to reach Level 5 automation in the following years. On top of that, over 5 million kilometers were alreadydrivenwith the help of the navigation system since its launch earlier this year, and the latest version of the software can now automaticallyparkthe car in garages without human help if it remembers the spot in which the vehicle was parked before.</p>\n<p><b>Risks</b></p>\n<p>As for the risks, we see a couple of them. First of all, XPengtradesat a price-to-sales ratio of ~16x and could be considered richly valued at its current market cap of around $37 billion. For that reason, it's not a good investment for long-term value shareholders, and for those who don't want to expose their portfolios to Chinese assets.</p>\n<p>In addition, there's a risk that the start of the potential China-US trade war could prevent XPeng from accessing the US capital markets, as its current shares could be delisted. To tackle this issue, the company just recentlyraisednearly $2 billion by executing another IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange with a double main listing structure. By receiving such help, XPeng is now on track to complete its third manufacturing facility in Wuhan, which will help it to reach an annual capacity of at least 300,000 vehicles. Without a cord, the earbud gets its power from a tiny cylindrical battery that has about 1% of the capacity of an iPhone’s battery.\nBut lithium-ion batteries, like those used by the AirPods, wear out the more they are used.\nSome owners have noticed that, after a few years, used AirPods eventually will last only an hour or so before needing to be recharged -- a big decay from the four-to-five-hour battery life they have when new. Because each AirPod is so small and so tightly packed into its housing, it’s almost impossible to swap out the old battery for a new one. Most people give up and just buy a new pair.\nThe limited lifespan of AirPods is exactly the kind of problem that the “right-to-repair” movement wants to fix. Repair shops and lobbyists that support repair reform want lawmakers to implement a variety of rules, including increased access to manuals and official parts and consumer protections around warranties.\nBut one of their most important requests is for companies to design products with repair in mind, instead of packing gadgets with unlabeled parts and sticking them together with glue, forcing users to use a knife to take them apart.\nThis desire puts repair advocates at odds with hardware companies like Apple, whose business models depend on customers upgrading to the latest model every few years. When Apple offered cheap iPhone battery repairs a few years ago, it hurt sales as consumers were able to hang on to their old phones for longer instead of upgrading. Apple also charges customers for repairs and extended warranties.\n“We design our products for durability in order to minimize the need for repair,” Apple wrote in an environmental report earlier this year. “But in the instance a repair is needed, we believe our customers should have convenient access to safe and reliable repair services, to get their product back up and running as quickly as possible.”\nThe right-to-repair movement gains steam\nPolicymakers have started to engage more closely with right-to-repair advocates in recent years. State-level bills have been introduced in a majority of states, but electronics companies have lobbied against them and none have passed.\nIn May, the Federal Trade Commission released a 56-page report on repair restrictions, concluding that repair restrictions have “steered consumers into manufacturers’ repair networks or to replace products before the end of their useful lives” — exactly the problem users are running into with their AirPods.\nThe Biden administration on Friday ordered the FTC to write new regulations targeted at limiting manufacturers’ ability to hamper independent or do-it-yourself repairs as part of a sweeping executive order. New repair rules have not yet been drafted.\n“Tech and other companies impose restrictions on self and third-party repairs, making repairs more costly and time-consuming, such as by restricting the distribution of parts, diagnostics, and repair tools,” the White House wrote in a fact sheet about the order on Friday, linking to a story about fixing Apple products. Apple declined to comment on the White House executive order.\nThe FTC has not said what it plans to do, but repair advocates want a few key policy changes, as detailed in its May report. They want companies to be required to make official replacement parts available. They want access to tools that could make repairs easier without reverse-engineering the tools or parts themselves. And ultimately, they want products to be designed with longer lifespans.\nApple is not the only company that would be affected by these policies. Much of the recent pressure is on medical device companies and tractor manufacturers. If Alibaba stock could hold the 10-week moving average on this week’s dip, I’d feel better about it.</p>\n<p>However, as long as it can hold up over the $210 level and really, the 200-week moving average, I feel okay about Alibaba going into the next six months.</p>\n<p>A push over $235 - thus putting it over all of the moving average hurdles mentioned above - could open up a run to $250, then $263.
