Powell will hold a news conference following the 2 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT) release of the Fed's latest policy statement.
\n
Graphic: \"Substantial further progress\" for the Fed?: https://graphics.reuters.com/USA-ECONOMY/FEDPROGRESS/yzdvxmmmdpx/chart.png
\n
INFECTIONS AND INFLATION
\n
The Fed remains in full crisis-fighting mode more than 16 months into a national state of emergency, continuing to hold its benchmark overnight interest rate near zero and buying bonds at a pace some policymakers have begun to question openly as too aggressive. Inflation is taking off, they note, and housing prices have hit record highs thanks in part to the relatively low interest rates on home mortgages.
\n
To avoid bigger problems down the road the Fed should pull back \"sooner rather than later,\" Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan said after the June 15-16 policy meeting. St. Louis Fed President James Bullard has voiced similar sentiments - only to see Missouri's second-biggest city reimpose an indoor mask mandate amid a rapid coronavirus outbreak in the state.
\n
Nationally, daily infections have risen about fourfold since the Fed met in June, making what had seemed a straightforward process - a turn from fighting recession to managing the rising prices and other risks of a strong recovery - into a more nuanced debate over how to continue planning for the pandemic's end while also acknowledging its persistence.
\n
A new Reuters poll showed 160 of 202 economists, or about 80%, said the spread of new coronavirus variants was the biggest risk to the recovery.
\n
The latest surge in cases has not shown up clearly yet in the economic data. Consumer confidence remains high and people are still boarding planes and heading to restaurants.
\n
Graphic: U.S. air travel is resuming: https://graphics.reuters.com/USA-ECONOMY/TRAVEL/zgpomwnnapd/chart.png
\n
Still, Bank of America analysts recently drew a cautionary tale from Michigan, where a wave of infections in February appeared to dent hiring and consumer spending.
\n
\"So far we have seen little evidence of the Delta variant significantly affecting economic activity or spending on services,\" those analysts wrote. But \"we have good reason to be concerned about the current outbreak and what it means.\"
\n
TAPER TALK CONTINUES
\n
Amid those risks, there's also no guarantee that inflation will fade on a timetable within the Fed's comfort zone - possibly leaving the central caught between slower growth and rising prices, the worst of both worlds.
\n
A new Fed framework ostensibly allows inflation to run above the central bank's formal 2% target to give the economy more room to generate jobs.
\n
That approach, however, was designed after a decade of low inflation, and on an expectation the chief challenge would be raising the weak pace of price increases. Yet as of May, with the world economy beset by supply-chain problems and other challenges tied to the economic reopening, the Fed's preferred inflation measure was nearly twice the target rate.
\n
If that trend continues \"they would have to say at some point 'we do have to remove accommodation' ... and they could not wait for maximum employment\" before raising interest rates, as their current policy pledges to do, said Bill English, a Yale School of Management professor and former head of the Fed's monetary affairs division.
\n
For that reason alone, Fed planning over how to reduce its bond-buying program is expected to continue. The central bank wants the monthly purchases to end before considering an interest rate increase, and the process of tapering them could take perhaps a year to complete - a lengthy runway if inflation persists and rate increases become more urgent.
\n
Officials have also promised ample advance notice before actually making any change, adding more months to the timetable.
\n
So far, officials are not foreclosing any option. Market analysts say they expect the Fed to clarify its plans for ending the bond-buying in the fall, and perhaps begin reducing purchases early next year.
\n
That presumes U.S. hiring continues, and that travel, dining out, and other close-contact social activities also recover.
\n
In an update to its World Economic Outlook, the International Monetary Fund on Tuesday raised its forecast for U.S. growth in 2021 to a torrid 7%. But in a related blog, Gita Gopinath, the IMF's chief economist, cautioned central banks not to be distracted into \"prematurely tightening policies\" by a rise in inflation that was expected to fade on its own.
\n
\"The recovery is not assured until the pandemic is beaten back globally,\" she wrote.
","source":"highlight_streetinsider","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Blip or bad moon rising? But in a related blog, Gita Gopinath, the IMF's chief economist, cautioned central banks not to be distracted into \"prematurely tightening policies\" by a rise in inflation that was expected to fade on its own.\n\"The recovery is not assured until the pandemic is beaten back globally,\" she wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":334,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":809363906,"gmtCreate":1627348513505,"gmtModify":1703488049526,"author":{"id":"3575008828232704","authorId":"3575008828232704","name":"DarrenWong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/394b0b4839a3420149c0a1372405c98d","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575008828232704","authorIdStr":"3575008828232704"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"OK","listText":"OK","text":"OK","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/809363906","repostId":"1129201185","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129201185","pubTimestamp":1627347052,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1129201185?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-27 08:50","market":"us","language":"en","title":"XBIO Stock: Xenetic Soars on Private Placement Announcement","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129201185","media":"investorplace","summary":"Xenetic Biosciences(NASDAQ:XBIO) is continuing a great month for itself. Bipartisan talk of antitrust actions against the e-commerce giant could mean that Amazon’s dominance could begin to face challenges from Washington. That comes as Bezos handed off the CEO role to Andy Jassy earlier this month.
\n
Shares of Amazon have underperformed the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 in 2021, even as the coronavirus pandemic forced Americans to rely on its service during the darkest days.
\n
Given all this, it is worth considering e-commerce alternatives if you’re worried that Amazon’s best days are behind it.
\n
Here are five smaller high-growth companies you may want to research:
\n
Sea
\n
Shares of Sea Ltd. are up about 45% in 2021, hitting new all-time highs as it continues its aggressive growth across Asia and Latin America.
\n
The Singapore-based company has a broad business model capitalizing on e-commerce and digital retail operations around the world. That includes its Garena digital entertainment platform that publishes video games and offers e-sports tie-ins, the Shopee e-commerce platform and SeaMoney digital financial services that include mobile payment services.
\n
Sea was a darling in 2020 as it rode the “stay at home trade” to great success. Revenue doubled year over year in 2020 to $4.4 billion, and the company’s momentum was the envy of Wall Street as Sea stock racked up roughly 640% gains on the calendar year.
\n
But the fundamentals shown by Sea in 2021 hint that the surge in share prices were justified. Consider that in its first-quarter report in May, revenue surged by about 150%— while gross profit tripled year over year.
\n
With its next earnings report scheduled for mid-August, Sea stock could see another leg up as it continues to prove Amazon isn’t the only e-commerce name worth watching.
\n
Coupang
\n
While Sea has been a cult stock for a while in some circles, one Asian e-commerce stock that is still flying under the radar for many is Korea-based Coupang Inc.. South Korea’s biggest e-commerce company began trading in March after an IPO that raised $4.6 billion, but since then shares have drifted lower — and other cult-like stocks have won all the attention.
\n
If you haven’t yet heard of Coupang, its model should be quite familiar. It sells various products including home goods, apparel, beauty products, sporting goods and electronics. It’s also looking beyond these tried-and-true categories to include a focus on fresh food and groceries, as well as services including travel and restaurant delivery.
\n
Though the fundamentals are light given its recent debut, the numbers we have do show this regional e-tailer is connecting in a big way in Korea. Namely, it saw net revenue growth of 74% in its first-quarter report in May, and gross profit up 70% year over year. Total customers grew 21%, and revenue per customer surged 44%.
\n
Admittedly, the total customer base in that quarter was just 16 million households — hardly Amazon-esque. And so far in 2021, share prices has slumped slightly, even though the S&P 500 has powered higher. But remember, this is a company that just raised $4.6 billion — with a “B” — and is serious about growth. Considering the language and logistical barriers to competition in the markets it serves that clearly have long-term growth potential, investors may want to consider the lull in Coupang shares a buying opportunity.
\n
MercadoLibre
\n
Taking a page out of the playbook of Silicon Valley stocks that boast high share prices and a refusal to split, MercadoLibre Inc. is currently trading well above four figures — and based on recent history, seems as if it’s likely to stay there.
\n
MercadoLibre stock has cooled off in 2021 and is sitting on a slight loss year to date, compared with an uptrend broadly for U.S. stocks. However, that’s after this Latin American stock racked up 200% gains last year. Argentina-based MercadoLibre is hardly slowing down, however, as in the first quarter it reported 70 million active users — an increase of 62% above the just over 43 million users in the prior year. Gross merchandise volume was up even more at a 77% year-over-year growth rate to just over $6 billion, compared with $3.4 billion in the first quarter of 2020.
\n
What’s really exciting for investors, however, is that the gains in core e-commerce transactions is supplemented by continued growth into financial services. MercadoLibre reported an impressive $2.9 billion in payment volume through its mobile wallet platform, and its Mercado Credito lending platform saw its portfolio grow to $576 million — more than doubling over the prior year.
\n
Amazon has taught e-commerce companies that dominating all aspects of the consumer experience is how to truly build a dominant operation. With MercadoLibre growing sales but also increasingly connecting on the financial side, it is setting up itself to be a force in Latin America — and a real competitor to even entrenched western e-commerce brands.
\n
Newegg
\n
Newegg Commerce Inc. is a consumer-electronics e-tailer that has a bit of a following in computer geek circles but largely has gone unnoticed by most consumers and investors. That is, until it spiked from $10 a share to a brief high above $60 a share in July.
\n
The inciting incident was news that Newegg would carry hard-to-get Nvidia graphics hardware, and theoretically see a big bump in revenue and profits as a result. However, Newegg may be proving that it is much more than just a tangential play piggybacking off Nvidia as it proves there is real value to specialty retailers that serve a specific audience — and can offer in-demand products instead of knock-offs propped up by fraudulent five-star reviews.
\n
Newegg went public via a SPAC, so it doesn’t have a lot of history to show investors just yet. But what little we know is proof that Newegg stock has potential. Consider it commands an impressive market share when it comes to core hardware items like PC processors, motherboards and the like. It also ranks as a top-five website worldwide when it comes to computer and electronics retailing sites, and is a go-to site for cryptocurrency miners as well as PC gamers.
\n
According to what we know about the financials, Newegg topped $2.1 billion in sales, thanks to its dominance in this profitable niche of computer components. And as evidenced by its recent Nvidia score, it has deep relationships with consumer electronics suppliers to ensure it is not just another Amazon clone selling cut-rate flat screens.
\n
Shopify
\n
If you’re interested in what life looks like for e-commerce beyond Amazon, look no further than Shopify Inc..This Canada-based tech company offers a platform for any company to build out web and mobile storefronts, integrate those operations into physical retail locations and then assist with the nitty gritty of inventory, shipping and payments.
\n
Shopify stock was one of those names that made a lot of headlines in 2020 as part of the pandemic-related surge in service providers made for social distancing. Shares surged from about $400 to $1,100 last year as a result of everyone looking to do business digitally. But in 2021, Shopify stock has tacked on almost 40% more, proving this is not just a COVID trade. After all, the e-commerce potential it helps merchants realize is real and lasting beyond the pandemic.
\n
Case in point:Fiscal first-quarter revenue growth reported at the end of April was a red hot 110%. But what long-term investors will like even more is that its subscription service metric MRR — that is, monthly recurring revenue — accelerated 62% year-over-year to prove that many of the initial spend on building out these platforms is sticking as clients maintain their Shopify presence.
\n
Shopify isn’t quite the scale of Amazon, but at $200 billion or so in market value right now with a comfortable operating profit to sustain it, investors who want to bet the field vs. Bezos & Co. could do worse than plug into Shopify stock.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Amazon's stock looks tired. Five other companies, including Sea and Coupang, are taking it further\nSea Ltd.'s Shopee e-commerce platform.\nJeff Bezos has plenty of achievements under his belt, the most recent being his extraterrestrial excursion.\nBut Amazon.com shareholders may not be so impressed. Bipartisan talk of antitrust actions against the e-commerce giant could mean that Amazon’s dominance could begin to face challenges from Washington. That comes as Bezos handed off the CEO role to Andy Jassy earlier this month.\nShares of Amazon have underperformed the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 in 2021, even as the coronavirus pandemic forced Americans to rely on its service during the darkest days.\nGiven all this, it is worth considering e-commerce alternatives if you’re worried that Amazon’s best days are behind it.\nHere are five smaller high-growth companies you may want to research:\nSea\nShares of Sea Ltd. are up about 45% in 2021, hitting new all-time highs as it continues its aggressive growth across Asia and Latin America.\nThe Singapore-based company has a broad business model capitalizing on e-commerce and digital retail operations around the world. That includes its Garena digital entertainment platform that publishes video games and offers e-sports tie-ins, the Shopee e-commerce platform and SeaMoney digital financial services that include mobile payment services.\nSea was a darling in 2020 as it rode the “stay at home trade” to great success. Revenue doubled year over year in 2020 to $4.4 billion, and the company’s momentum was the envy of Wall Street as Sea stock racked up roughly 640% gains on the calendar year.\nBut the fundamentals shown by Sea in 2021 hint that the surge in share prices were justified. Consider that in its first-quarter report in May, revenue surged by about 150%— while gross profit tripled year over year.\nWith its next earnings report scheduled for mid-August, Sea stock could see another leg up as it continues to prove Amazon isn’t the only e-commerce name worth watching.\nCoupang\nWhile Sea has been a cult stock for a while in some circles, one Asian e-commerce stock that is still flying under the radar for many is Korea-based Coupang Inc.. South Korea’s biggest e-commerce company began trading in March after an IPO that raised $4.6 billion, but since then shares have drifted lower — and other cult-like stocks have won all the attention.\nIf you haven’t yet heard of Coupang, its model should be quite familiar. With share prices at 10-year lows, I found plenty of attractive dividend stocks to buy.
\n
Although the rapid market recovery has been great for my portfolio, it means I missed out on some bargains. Today, I’m going to look at two dividend stocks I’d really like to buy if the market crashes again.
\n
Hydrogen and batteries
\n
I’m pretty certain that hydrogen fuel cells and batteries will replace diesel and petrol in most vehicles over the next couple of decades. My pick for exposure to these fast-growing sectors is FTSE 100 group JOHNSON MATTHEY PLC.
\n
This industrial group is best known today for producing catalytic converters used in diesel and petrol engines. But the company is now developing the next generation of technology, as it’s done several times before in its204-year history.
\n
Catalytic converters are still profitable and generate plenty of cash for the group. This is being reinvested in hydrogen and battery development. Unlike many loss-making start-ups, JMAT already has strong relationships with large car manufacturers. The company also has a track record of large-scale industrial production. I reckon it’s in a good position to take the lead on clean technology.
\n
The main risk I can see is that Johnson Matthey will fail to develop the winning products for the next generation of vehicles. This could cause profits to slump for years as the firm tries to catch up.
\n
Personally, I’m willing to back this company’s long history of successful innovation. I see JMAT as an ideal dividend stock to buy for long-term exposure (and income) from clean power technologies.
\n
A safe dividend stock to buy in uncertain times?
\n
Johnson Matthey’s future relies on the company developing the right products at the right time and it may not be easy.
\n
However, I reckon things are a little simpler for my second company, DOMINO'S PIZZA GROUP PLC. This business knows what its customers want and how to make it.
\n
Domino’s traded well last year, for obvious reasons. Sales rose by 11.4% to £1,348.4m, whilepre-tax profitrose by 2.5% to £101.2m. Profits would have been higher, but the company spent £9m on Covid-19 costs, such as PPE and cleaning, to help support its franchisees.
\n
The main challenge for this FTSE 250 group is to find ways to sell more pizzas to more people. That’s become an issue in recent years. The company has clashed with its franchisees — who own and run its branches — over costs and plans for new openings.
\n
Fixing this dispute would be a big win for CEO Dominic Paul. After a long period of stalemate, the company said in March it had tabled a new offer “in an attempt to reset” the relationship. There’s no word yet on progress, but as far as I can see it’s in everyone’s interest to get a solution. So I’m hopeful.
\n
In the meantime, Domino’s share price has risen by 30% over the last year and by 60% over the last two years. This has left the stock trading on 20 times forecast earnings, with a dividend yield of 2.5%. I think the shares are probably up with events for now, but this is a dividend stock I’d been keen to buy on any market dips.
\n
Markets around the world are reeling from the coronavirus pandemic…
\n
And with so many great companies trading at what look to be ‘discount-bin’ prices, now could be the time for savvy investors to snap up some potential bargains.
\n
But whether you’re a newbie investor or a seasoned pro, deciding which stocks to add to your shopping list can be daunting prospect during such unprecedented times.
\n
Fortunately, The Motley Fool is here to help: our UK Chief Investment Officer and his analyst team have short-listed five companies that they believe STILL boast significant long-term growth prospects despite the global lock-down…
\n
You see, here at The Motley Fool we don’t believe “over-trading” is the right path to financial freedom in retirement; instead, we advocate buying and holding (for AT LEAST three to five years) 15 or more quality companies, with shareholder-focused management teams at the helm.
\n
That’s why we’re sharing the names of all five of these companies in a special investing report. If you’re 50 or over, we believe these stocks could be a great fit for any well-diversified portfolio, and that you can consider building a position in all five right away.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 top dividend stocks to buy if the market crashes
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 top dividend stocks to buy if the market crashes\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-23 16:56 GMT+8 The Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Last year’s market crash created some wonderful buying opportunities. There’s no word yet on progress, but as far as I can see it’s in everyone’s interest to get a solution. So I’m hopeful.\nIn the meantime, Domino’s share price has risen by 30% over the last year and by 60% over the last two years. This has left the stock trading on 20 times forecast earnings, with a dividend yield of 2.5%. I think the shares are probably up with events for now, but this is a dividend stock I’d been keen to buy on any market dips.\nMarkets around the world are reeling from the coronavirus pandemic…\nAnd with so many great companies trading at what look to be ‘discount-bin’ prices, now could be the time for savvy investors to snap up some potential bargains.\nBut whether you’re a newbie investor or a seasoned pro, deciding which stocks to add to your shopping list can be daunting prospect during such unprecedented times.\nFortunately, The Motley Fool is here to help: our UK Chief Investment Officer and his analyst team have short-listed five companies that they believe STILL boast significant long-term growth prospects despite the global lock-down…\nYou see, here at The Motley Fool we don’t believe “over-trading” is the right path to financial freedom in retirement; instead, we advocate buying and holding (for AT LEAST three to five years) 15 or more quality companies, with shareholder-focused management teams at the helm.\nThat’s why we’re sharing the names of all five of these companies in a special investing report. If you’re 50 or over, we believe these stocks could be a great fit for any well-diversified portfolio, and that you can consider building a position in all five right away.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":233,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147078848,"gmtCreate":1626323795084,"gmtModify":1703757899019,"author":{"id":"3575008828232704","authorId":"3575008828232704","name":"DarrenWong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/394b0b4839a3420149c0a1372405c98d","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575008828232704","idStr":"3575008828232704"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/147078848","repostId":"1158294193","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1158294193","pubTimestamp":1626315862,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1158294193?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-15 10:24","market":"sh","language":"en","title":"Asia’s Air Travel May Take Three Years to Recover From Pandemic","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1158294193","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Region’s recovery is lagging behind pace in the U.S., Europe.\nDelta’s spread, renewed lockdowns set ","content":"
\n
Region’s recovery is lagging behind pace in the U.S., Europe.
\n
Delta’s spread, renewed lockdowns set back border reopenings.
\n
\n
Asian air travel may take another three years to recover fully from the devastation wrought by the pandemic, lagging behind rebounds in other regions and offering a stern headwind for refiners making jet fuel.
\n
It’ll take until 2024 for international air travel across the region to reach pre-virus levels, a year after global traffic hits that milestone, according to the International Air Transport Association. Low rates of vaccination in many countries, the challenge posed by the fast-spreading delta variant, and persistent lockdowns have all set back the recovery even as the U.S. and Europe press on.
