Should You Buy the Dip?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2220742835","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Nio (NYSE:NIO) has seen its stock slide 53% since January, despite having five EV models on the mark","content":"

Nio (NYSE:NIO) has seen its stock slide 53% since January, despite having five EV models on the market and a new Hong Kong listing to help stoke investment. Should investors buy the dip?

Founded in 2014, NIO has focused on manufacturing premium EVs for the Chinese market. The company currently offers five EV models and plans to begin delivery of its new premium smart electric sedan, the ET7, this month.

Based in China, the company held its initial public offering on the NYSE in 2018, raising around $1B.

EV stocks have been hammered

Shares of NIO have tumbled 53% since the beginning of January. This is part of a larger slide in broader EV space. Shares of industry player Rivian (RIVN) have plunged 64%, while Lucid (LCID) shares have tumbled 42%, Fisker (FSR) 33% and Tesla (TSLA) 24%.

Other Chinese EV makers suffered severe selling as well. Li (LI) shares have sunk 39% this year, while XPeng (XPEV) has dropped 58%. This chip maker has seen its value increase more than 10-fold over the past five years alone. At least it did, before the recent precipitous drop of more than 30% from its peak.At Nvidiaās peak, the company was valued at nearly $900 billion, and was inching toward the $1-trillion valuation mark. This valuation has been reserved for only the highest-growth mega-cap stocks in the world.Unfortunately, a series of macro headwinds have taken the wind out of the proverbial sails of growth stocks. The past few months have been rough, with investors pricing in higher interest rates and an inflation-driven future into stock prices. Can Nvidia once again return to its former capital appreciation glory? I think so, at least over the medium term. I remain bullish on NVDA stock, and hereās why.Nvidiaās Outlook Remains StrongFrom a fundamentals standpoint, thereās a lot to like about how Nvidia is valued, particularly after its 30% drop from its peak. This company currently trades at a forward price-earnings multiple of 43.Additionally, the companyās forward growth estimates still come in at around 34%. That means that this stock is just a hair above a price-earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio of 3.2. For stocks like Nvidia, thatās cheap. There are some reasons why investors may consider this valuation a very decent one right now. Itās not necessarily a view based on the companyās historical performance, which has been excellent. Rather, itās what Nvidia has on its plate in terms of future growth prospects. Many long-term investors in Nvidia see growth coming from three main markets. Thereās the companyās base semiconductor market, which is expected to grow at a reasonable pace of around 9% per year. Then thereās the gaming market and AI market, of which Nvidia is providing an increasing number of chips. These market segments are much faster-growing, with double-digit expected compound annual growth rates (CAGR) over the medium term.In addition to these sectors, Nvidiaās chips power much of the crypto mining sector. Like it or not, this remains a hot sector, and one which is seeing a lot of investment. Over time, Nvidiaās ability to capture high-end market share in computing is likely to create a moat that will be hard for other companies to penetrate.Relative to its peers, thereās a lot to like about how Nvidia is positioned in terms of future growth. Relative to the companyās valuation, NVDA stock provides an attractive growth profile and an easy-to-understand investment thesis right now.Solid Fourth Quarter EarningsOkay, so thatās looking forward. Letās look back on the companyās recent earnings.Nvidiaās fourth-quarter earnings were, in a word, strong. The company reported earnings per share of $1.32, beating out consensus estimates of $1.08 per share. Further, the companyās revenue of $7.64 billion came in much higher than expected, representing year-over-year growth of 69% and 53%, respectively.Any company thatās able to grow both its top and bottom line by these margins ought to be considered. Whatās more, Nvidia managed to grow its bottom line faster than its revenue. This implies margin expansion, something long-term bulls must like. Finally, thereās the forward-looking projections that should be considered. The market is pricing in a forward growth rate of only 34%. ConsideringNvidia essentially doubled this growth rate, at least on its bottom line, thereās a lot to like about the potential for stock price upgrades following future earnings calls. That is, should the company be able to repeat these results moving forward.Wall Streetās TakeAs per TipRanksā analyst rating consensus, NVDA is a Strong Buy. Out of 22 analyst ratings, there are 19 Buy recommendations and three Hold recommendations.TheĀ average Nvidia price targetĀ $362.22. Analyst price targets range from a high of $400 per share to a low of $250 per share.Bottom LineWhether or not Nvidia will hit a $1-trillion valuation this year remains to be seen. Macro headwinds remain strong right now, and this argument is one thatās certainly on the fringes of what most investors expect. However, over a medium-term time frame (say, two to five years), such an outlook is possible, if not probable. Should Nvidia continue to grow as it has been, and beat future growth expectations, this is a stock that certainly has the ability to run to a $1-trillion valuation. For context, Nvidia stock currently sits at a valuation of around $600 billion at the time of writing.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":623,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9039505306,"gmtCreate":1646065635308,"gmtModify":1676534087294,"author":{"id":"3575032741986642","authorId":"3575032741986642","name":"AngelAw","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8206a20c5dd9d81d85c5335051c8830","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575032741986642","authorIdStr":"3575032741986642"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good š°","listText":"Good š°","text":"Good š°","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9039505306","repostId":"1178585755","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1178585755","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1646061682,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1178585755?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-28 23:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Solar Stocks Jumped in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1178585755","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Solar stocks jumped in morning trading.Jinko Solar,Ā SolarEdge,Ā Maxeon Solar Technologies,Ā Sunnova En","content":"

Solar stocks jumped in morning trading.Jinko Solar,Ā SolarEdge,Ā Maxeon Solar Technologies,Ā Sunnova Energy International,Ā Enphase Energy,Ā SunRun,Ā ReneSola,Ā Daqo New Energy,Ā SunPower,Ā SPI Energy,Ā First Solar,Ā Canadian SolarĀ andĀ Hannon ArmstrongĀ climbed between 4% and 10%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; But the idea certainly applies. It's never a straight path upward -- even for the most promising stocks.

We've seen a perfect example of this in recent months. Many top stocks have plunged. And that actually makes them even better picks for long-term investors. Here are three growth stocks to buy that have crashed more than 60%.

1. Teladoc Health

Shares ofĀ Teladoc Health (NYSE:TDOC) have plummeted close to 70% from the peak set in early 2021. Investors worried that the virtual care provider's valuation got too frothy after a huge run-up fueled by COVID-19 lockdowns.

However, it's a mistake to think that Teladoc's fortunes hinge on the coronavirus. The company's revenue growth and visit volumes have continued to increase even with most lockdowns becoming a distant memory. People who have tried virtual visits liked their experience. Eighty-two percent of consumers said that telehealth was equal to or better than in-person care, according to a survey conducted by Piper Sandler.

Teladoc estimates that its total addressable market tops $260 billion annually. To put that into perspective, the company will probably record revenue of around $2 billion for 2021 and currently sports a market cap of $12 billion. What's even more impressive is that $75 billion of Teladoc's total addressable market opportunity lies within its existing member base.

Sure, Teladoc faces some competition. But it's indisputably the leader in virtual care with the broadest array of products and services, the widest geographical reach, and the biggest client base.

2. Pinterest

Like Teladoc, Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) stock is down close to 70% from its high set early last year. The steep sell-off stemmed primarily from declining monthly average user (MAU) volumes.

However, those falling MAU numbers really aren't as troubling as some might think. The underlying reason is the explosion in users that Pinterest experienced during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. Even with the declines, the company's MAU numbers remain well above pre-pandemic levels.

Importantly, Pinterest's average revenue per user (ARPU) continues to grow robustly. It has plenty of room to improve. The company's ARPU is less than one-sixth of what Meta PlatformsĀ pulls in with its Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp apps.

There's a good argument that Pinterest's best days are yet to come. The company doesn't face the controversies that have plagued other top social media stocks. Thanks to the big decline over the past 12 months, its shares are also attractively valued. Once Pinterest moves past its challenging year-over-year MAU comparisons, the stock could deliver a strong rebound.

3. Novocure

Novocure's (NASDAQ:NVCR) share price has plunged more than 65% since June 2021. The primary issue for the company is that its revenue growth has been weak. But investors should focus on Novocure's long-term prospects instead of its current malaise.

Don't look for a return to soaring sales growth this year. Novocure projects that the number of patients using its Tumor Treating Fields (TTF) to treat glioblastoma (an aggressive type of brain cancer) and malignant pleural mesothelioma will increase only 2% to 5%.

However, TTF holds promise in using electrical fields to disrupt the replication of tumor cells in other types of cancer. Novocure expects to report results from its phase 3 study of TTF in treating non-small cell lung cancer and its phase 2 study in gastric cancer this year. The company also anticipates thatĀ an interim analysis from a late-stage study for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer will wrap up in the second quarter of 2022. Final data from this study should be on the way next year.

In addition, Novocure plans to kick off a limited launch in Europe later this year for its next-generation array. The company thinks this array will increase TTF's dose delivery with less heat generation, which could increase the efficacy of the therapy.

Several catalysts are on the way for this beaten-down healthcare stock. Patient investors who buy Novocure could be richly rewarded.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Growth Stocks to Buy That Have Crashed More Than 60%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Growth Stocks to Buy That Have Crashed More Than 60%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-04 19:18 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The Beatles' classic hit \"The Long and Winding Road\" wasn't about growth stocks. Novocure projects that the number of patients using its Tumor Treating Fields (TTF) to treat glioblastoma (an aggressive type of brain cancer) and malignant pleural mesothelioma will increase only 2% to 5%.However, TTF holds promise in using electrical fields to disrupt the replication of tumor cells in other types of cancer. Final data from this study should be on the way next year.In addition, Novocure plans to kick off a limited launch in Europe later this year for its next-generation array. The company thinks this array will increase TTF's dose delivery with less heat generation, which could increase the efficacy of the therapy.Several catalysts are on the way for this beaten-down healthcare stock. Patient investors who buy Novocure could be richly rewarded.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1299,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9098830594,"gmtCreate":1644074331993,"gmtModify":1676533888040,"author":{"id":"3575032741986642","authorId":"3575032741986642","name":"AngelAw","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8206a20c5dd9d81d85c5335051c8830","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575032741986642","authorIdStr":"3575032741986642"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9098830594","repostId":"1197042929","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197042929","pubTimestamp":1644019993,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1197042929?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-05 08:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US IPO Weekly Recap: The February IPO market kicks off with 2 biotechs","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197042929","media":"Renaissance Capital","summary":"The February IPO market kicked off with two cancer-focused biotechs, joined by four SPACs. The health care workers in the study, which was published Monday, had no previous laboratory documentation of Covid-19 infection. Two doses are better than one, federal health officials said, adding that the vaccines' effectiveness jumped to 90% two weeks after the second dose.\"These findings indicate that authorized mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are effective for preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection, regardless of symptom status, among working-age adults in real-world conditions,\" the U.S. agency wrote in the study. \"COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all eligible persons.\"The new CDC findings are likely to bolster arguments from some health experts and public health officials that the U.S. should prioritize giving Americans just one dose of the vaccines before moving on to second doses, accelerating the pace of vaccinations across the nation.Unlike Johnson & Johnson's vaccine, which requires one dose, Pfizer's and Moderna's vaccines require two shots given three to four weeks apart. White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has repeatedly said over the past few months that the U.S. should stick to the two-dose regimen.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":619,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355727299,"gmtCreate":1617108246211,"gmtModify":1704695914426,"author":{"id":"3575032741986642","authorId":"3575032741986642","name":"AngelAw","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8206a20c5dd9d81d85c5335051c8830","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575032741986642","authorIdStr":"3575032741986642"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Just wait","listText":"Just wait","text":"Just wait","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/355727299","repostId":"1151024477","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151024477","pubTimestamp":1617107153,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1151024477?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-30 20:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Elon Musk says Tesla Semi will be hard to scale until next year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1151024477","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"(March 30)Ā TeslaĀ CEO Elon MuskĀ saysĀ near-term cell supply will make it hard to scale the Semi until ","content":"
(March 30) Tesla CEO Elon Musk says near-term cell supply will make it hard to scale the Semi until next yearwhen the limitation will be less onerous.

Yesterday, Tesla won anew orderfor electric semi trucks from MHX Leasing Funds and last week reports emerged that PepsiCo would takedelivery of 15 electric trucks by the end of the year.

Shares of Tesla are down 1.96% premarket to $599.33.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; This chip maker has seen its value increase more than 10-fold over the past five years alone. For context, Nvidia stock currently sits at a valuation of around $600 billion at the time of writing.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":623,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9035538752,"gmtCreate":1647625128073,"gmtModify":1676534252461,"author":{"id":"3575032741986642","authorId":"3575032741986642","name":"AngelAw","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8206a20c5dd9d81d85c5335051c8830","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575032741986642","authorIdStr":"3575032741986642"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"K","listText":"K","text":"K","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9035538752","repostId":"1152756032","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1152756032","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1647617579,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1152756032?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-18 23:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Chinese ADRs Continued to Expand Gains in Morning Trading, with DiDi Surging over 50%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1152756032","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Chinese ADRs continued to expand gains in morning trading, with DiDi surgingĀ over 50%.","content":"

Chinese ADRs continued to expand gains in morning trading, with DiDi surgingĀ over 50%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Within 24 hours of reporting dismal resul","content":"

Suddenly, investors are givingĀ FacebookĀ a big thumbs down. Within 24 hours of reporting dismal results on Wednesday night,Ā FacebookĀ parentĀ Meta PlatformsĀ lost more than a quarter of its market capitalization, some $250 billion. It was the largest single-day loss of corporate value in U.S. history.

And the value destruction might not be over. For Facebook, this is different than the privacy scandals and political controversies that have surrounded the company. This time, the problems are with the business itself.

Meta (ticker: FB) offered a first-quarter outlook that reveals slowing usage of its social media apps and troubling trends in advertising sales. Fixing the problems will take multiple quarters, and potentially years. Meanwhile, the repairs will have to be made as the company pivots to the metaverse, a significant gamble on an unproven technology.

By the end of a long week of tech earnings (see this weekās Tech Trader), it became clear that Metaās problems are unique, and not part of a broader industry downturn. Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) posted strong results driven by demand for advertising space on Google Search and YouTube. And on Thursday afternoonāone day after Metaās nightmarish reportāsmaller rivalsĀ SnapĀ (SNAP) andĀ PinterestĀ (PINS) surprised investors with better-than-expected numbers, including Snapās first-ever profit.

Amazon.comĀ (AMZN) rounded out the big week of earnings with its own impressive resultsāincluding 32% growth in its advertising business. Those reports helped tech stocks snap back on Friday: The Nasdaq Composite rallied 2%, but Meta shares were flat.

The lack of buying on the dip reflects the serious issues Meta raised with its earnings. For the first quarter, the company sees revenue of $27 billion to $29 billion, up between 3% and 11% from a year ago. That would be a sharp deceleration from 48% growth a year ago. Meta said results would be affected by āheadwindsā to both the number of ad impressions generated by its platforms and by pressures on ad pricing.

The forecast came as a shock to Facebook investors who have grown used to reliable growth, even amid controversy. Meta by its own admission is now dealing with multiple issues: slowing usage of the companyās core social media apps, tough earnings comparisons, decelerating spending by advertisers that are facing labor and product shortages, and intensified competition from TikTok, the short-form video app owned by China-based ByteDance.

Metaās mention of weaker ad impressions was the real shocker. The company said its core Facebook business had one million fewer daily average users in the December quarter versus the previous three months. That has never happened before. The slowdown could reflect people spending more time out of the house after two years of severe pandemic restrictions. Alternatively, or perhaps additionally, it could be that people are simply growing a little tired of social media, and using the platforms a little less.

On its post-earnings call with investors, Meta repeatedly pointed to competition from TikTok. Meta is going after TikTok with a competitive service called Reels, which have been pushed across Facebook feeds. But it is going to take time for Facebook to catch up to TikTokās popularity, if it ever does. Meanwhile, the issue is cutting into Metaās revenues.

āOn the impressions side, we expect continued headwinds from both increased competition for peopleās time and a shift of engagement within our apps toward video surfaces like Reels, which monetize at lower rates than Feed and Stories,ā the company said. In other words, competition from TikTok is forcing Facebook to push users into less profitable parts of its platform.

On ad pricing, meanwhile, Meta continues to deal withĀ AppleāsĀ (AAPL) adoption of tough new rules that limit advertisersā ability to track consumer behavior on iOS devices. Those changes werenāt yet in place a year ago, so the comparison will be felt again in the first quarter. āWe anticipate modestly increasing ad targeting and measurement headwinds from platform and regulatory changes,ā Meta said.

The company has previously expressed confidence that it could develop workarounds for Appleās changes, which affect ad targeting along with knowing when ads trigger purchases or other consumer behaviors. But Meta now sounds less confident about a near-term fix, saying the Apple changes will trim its revenue by $10 billion this year.

Perhaps most worrisome for Facebook is that Snap and Pinterest, rivals that in theory should be suffering a similar slowdown from Appleās changes, didnāt report the same issues in the quarter.

Falling Hard

Facebook parent Meta Platforms lost more than a quarter of its market value on Thursday. Itās the largest single-day loss of corporate value ever.

To be sure, the Meta story still has investor appeal, most notably a cheap stock. After the selloff, Meta trades at a discount to the S&P 500ā19.3 times versus 20.3 times, respectively. Meta has also been aggressively buying back stockā$33 billion over the past two quarters. While those purchases look ill-timed, the buybacks suggest that the Meta board considers the stock cheap. That doesnāt mean it canāt get cheaper.

Metaās risks are growing and theyāre no longer just about Facebook's legacy business. The company is spending aggressively on its metaverse build outācapital spending this year is expected to be between $29 billion and $34 billion, up from $19.2 billion last year. No one really knows if the plan will work: How many people want to attend concerts, parties, and meetings in an imaginary world while wearing a virtual reality headset? Within 24 hours of reporting dismal results on Wednesday night,Ā FacebookĀ parentĀ Meta PlatformsĀ lost more than a quarter of its market capitalization, some $250 billion. It was the largest single-day loss of corporate value in U.S. history. And the value destruction might not be over. For Facebook, this is different than the privacy scandals and political controversies that have surrounded the company. This time, the problems are with the business itself.Meta (ticker: FB) offered a first-quarter outlook that reveals slowing usage of its social media apps and troubling trends in advertising sales. Fixing the problems will take multiple quarters, and potentially years. Meanwhile, the repairs will have to be made as the company pivots to the metaverse, a significant gamble on an unproven technology.By the end of a long week of tech earnings (see this weekās Tech Trader), it became clear that Metaās problems are unique, and not part of a broader industry downturn. Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) posted strong results driven by demand for advertising space on Google Search and YouTube. And on Thursday afternoonāone day after Metaās nightmarish reportāsmaller rivalsĀ SnapĀ (SNAP) andĀ PinterestĀ (PINS) surprised investors with better-than-expected numbers, including Snapās first-ever profit.Amazon.comĀ (AMZN) rounded out the big week of earnings with its own impressive resultsāincluding 32% growth in its advertising business. Meta by its own admission is now dealing with multiple issues: slowing usage of the companyās core social media apps, tough earnings comparisons, decelerating spending by advertisers that are facing labor and product shortages, and intensified competition from TikTok, the short-form video app owned by China-based ByteDance.Metaās mention of weaker ad impressions was the real shocker. The company said its core Facebook business had one million fewer daily average users in the December quarter versus the previous three months. That has never happened before. The slowdown could reflect people spending more time out of the house after two years of severe pandemic restrictions. Alternatively, or perhaps additionally, it could be that people are simply growing a little tired of social media, and using the platforms a little less.On its post-earnings call with investors, Meta repeatedly pointed to competition from TikTok. Meta is going after TikTok with a competitive service called Reels, which have been pushed across Facebook feeds. But it is going to take time for Facebook to catch up to TikTokās popularity, if it ever does. Meanwhile, the issue is cutting into Metaās revenues.āOn the impressions side, we expect continued headwinds from both increased competition for peopleās time and a shift of engagement within our apps toward video surfaces like Reels, which monetize at lower rates than Feed and Stories,ā the company said. But Meta now sounds less confident about a near-term fix, saying the Apple changes will trim its revenue by $10 billion this year.Perhaps most worrisome for Facebook is that Snap and Pinterest, rivals that in theory should be suffering a similar slowdown from Appleās changes, didnāt report the same issues in the quarter.Falling HardFacebook parent Meta Platforms lost more than a quarter of its market value on Thursday. Itās the largest single-day loss of corporate value ever.To be sure, the Meta story still has investor appeal, most notably a cheap stock. That doesnāt mean it canāt get cheaper.Metaās risks are growing and theyāre no longer just about Facebook's legacy business. The metaverse has become CEO Mark Zuckerbergās biggest betāand it gives the company a quickly changing risk profile, one that looks uncomfortable even with a cheap stock.Metaās user base is mammothā3.6 billion monthly active users, or close to half the Earthās population. But growth is finally slowing, the advertising business is in trouble, regulators are circling, and the metaverse is in its infancy. And to add to investor worries, the company just announced it is shutting down its e-commerce operation in India.

These recent headwinds may worry some investors enough to stay away from the stock, but for those with patience, Sea presents a great opportunity.

Is international expansion hitting a roadblock?

Sea has shrewdly established the key pillars of its business -- Garena, Shopee, and Sea Money -- to take advantage of three global megatrends: gaming, e-commerce, and digital financial services, respectively. The company established its roots in Southeast Asia and quickly emerged into a global player, extending its presence into South America and Europe.

Its global expansion seemed to be going well, but on March 6, Sea announced that it was closing its Shopee business in France, which was a surprise for investors but largely viewed as a mere blip in the long-term plan. The news that really raised investors' eyebrows came on March 28 when Sea announced it is pulling the curtains on its e-commerce operations in India.

Why would Sea exit potentially one of the largest markets in the world and derail its growth prospects? In the backdrop of its recent stock performance -- and the growing uncertainty around the economic environment with rising inflation and a major war -- many investors may be losing faith in the company.

Digging deeper may offer some clues

The seeds of Sea's exit from India may have been sown around Feb. 2022. The Indian government, citing national security and user data privacy concerns, banned 54 Chinese mobile apps. This ban included Free Fire, Garena's wildly popular battle royale mobile game. The immediate question from many familiar with Sea was: Why was Free Fire banned, when Sea is a Singaporean company, not a Chinese one.

One likely reason is that Tencent Holdings, the Chinese entertainment giant, has an 18.7% stake in Sea. That relationship likely raised enough red flags for the Indian government. It is interesting to note regulators permitted Free Fire Max, the premium version of Free Fire, to continue operations in India.

So how does the above event lead to Sea's India exit for Shopee? Free Fire is at the center of Sea's playbook of international expansion -- the company attracts a large user base with its engrossing video game, learns about users' online habits, and creates opportunities to promote its e-commerce and digital payment services. Additionally, Garena designed Free Fire to run flawlessly even on low-end smartphones, ensuring the game can reach the majority of the population in developing countries.

Free Fire Max doesn't have the same reach as it requires mobile phones with higher-end configurations. Not having Free Fire to lay the foundation in India threw a wrench in Sea's proven formula for expansion.

Finally, no one knows how the political situation between India and China may unfold. India may not ban Shopee today, but that doesn't mean it won't do so in the future. For Shopee to succeed in this highly competitive market, it would need to invest significantly, and the risk underlying that investment is simply too high. All factors considered, Sea's move to shutter its e-commerce operation in India looks like a smart and proactive business decision.

Robust execution and long runway bode well

Sea's founder and CEO Forrest Li has led the company brilliantly. Gamers now enjoy Free Fire in over 130 countries as Shopee launched in four countries in Latin America, three countries in Europe, and in China -- all in the past two and a half years. Free Fire has been the highest-grossing mobile app for 10 consecutive quarters in Southeast Asia and Latin America, according to data.ai. Sea's total revenue grew a whopping 128% in 2021 to reach $10 billion. Gross profits for the same period increased 189% to $3.9 billion.

The company is investing heavily to expand into new markets, and as a result, net losses also grew 26% during the year to $2.0 billion. However, Li believes that by 2025, the cash generated by Shopee and Sea Money, the primary beneficiaries of Sea's investments, collectively will enable these two businesses to substantially self-fund their own long-term growth.

The global opportunity for Sea remains large. Southeast Asia, Sea's core market, is one of the world's fastest-growing regions with a population rising over 50% faster than the United States' and a GDP increasing more than twice as quickly. An expanding middle-class, rising average household incomes, and rapidly spreading cellphone and internet usage are creating more shoppers in the seven Southeast Asian countries where Sea operates.

The company is also gaining major traction in Brazil, the sixth-largest country by population. Shopee Brazil recorded more than 140 million orders in the fourth quarter, growing at close to 400% year over year. The company is also making headways in other South American countries.

Despite shutting down its e-commerce operation in India, Sea is projecting Shopee's revenue to grow 76% in 2022, while Sea Money grows 155%. These are very impressive numbers that underscore Sea's global scale and its ability to overcome hurdles in its growth trajectory.

Now may be a good time to board the ship

Management is forecasting a decline in bookings for Garena this year, which is understandable as the company faces the near-term headwinds of reopening economies across the world and Free Fire's ban in India. But Li remains aspirational and focused on the long-term prospects of the company.

Responding to the over 65% drop in the company's share price, Li assured employees in an email: "Do not fear: we are in a strong position internally, and we are clear on our next steps. This is short-term pain that we have to endure to truly maximise our long-term potential." Lee went on to say: "The scale of our ambition remains unchanged: to make a long-lasting mark in history."

Sea has successfully entered multiple international markets. The company is carefully assessing its opportunity in each region and making shrewd decisions to either expand or exit those markets. And to add to investor worries, the company just announced it is shutting down its e-commerce operation in India. These recent headwinds may worry some investors enough to stay away from the stock, but for those with patience, Sea presents a great opportunity.Image source: Getty Images. Is international expansion hitting a roadblock?Sea has shrewdly established the key pillars of its business -- Garena, Shopee, and Sea Money -- to take advantage of three global megatrends: gaming, e-commerce, and digital financial services, respectively. In the backdrop of its recent stock performance -- and the growing uncertainty around the economic environment with rising inflation and a major war -- many investors may be losing faith in the company.Digging deeper may offer some cluesThe seeds of Sea's exit from India may have been sown around Feb. 2022. The Indian government, citing national security and user data privacy concerns, banned 54 Chinese mobile apps. This ban included Free Fire, Garena's wildly popular battle royale mobile game. The immediate question from many familiar with Sea was: Why was Free Fire banned, when Sea is a Singaporean company, not a Chinese one.One likely reason is that Tencent Holdings, the Chinese entertainment giant, has an 18.7% stake in Sea. Additionally, Garena designed Free Fire to run flawlessly even on low-end smartphones, ensuring the game can reach the majority of the population in developing countries.Free Fire Max doesn't have the same reach as it requires mobile phones with higher-end configurations. All factors considered, Sea's move to shutter its e-commerce operation in India looks like a smart and proactive business decision.Robust execution and long runway bode wellSea's founder and CEO Forrest Li has led the company brilliantly. The company is also making headways in other South American countries.Despite shutting down its e-commerce operation in India, Sea is projecting Shopee's revenue to grow 76% in 2022, while Sea Money grows 155%. These are very impressive numbers that underscore Sea's global scale and its ability to overcome hurdles in its growth trajectory. Now may be a good time to board the shipManagement is forecasting a decline in bookings for Garena this year, which is understandable as the company faces the near-term headwinds of reopening economies across the world and Free Fire's ban in India. But Li remains aspirational and focused on the long-term prospects of the company.Responding to the over 65% drop in the company's share price, Li assured employees in an email: \"Do not fear: we are in a strong position internally, and we are clear on our next steps. This is short-term pain that we have to endure to truly maximise our long-term potential.\" Lee went on to say: \"The scale of our ambition remains unchanged: to make a long-lasting mark in history.\"Sea has successfully entered multiple international markets. The company is carefully assessing its opportunity in each region and making shrewd decisions to either expand or exit those markets. Sea's strategy of failing fast leads to efficient capital allocation for the company and bodes well for its future. It is still executing well, and despite its exit from India has a long runway in front of it.Data by YCharts. As a result of the sell-off, shares are trading at a three-year low price-to-sales valuation of 6.6 as of this writing. markets are good times to buy stocks, but caution is still needed.

Sometimes a badly beaten down stock is cheap for a reason.

After looking like it was about to plunge into correction territory, the S&P 500 has pared its losses for the new year by almost half after notching several days of gains. It's still quite likely that a stock market crash will happen sooner rather than later, as there have been 27 separate times since the end of World War II when the benchmark index has plunged 10% or more.

Even though 80% of corrections do not turn into bear markets, according to data from the Schwab Center for Financial Research, it's always good to prepare for a collapse.

But some stocks are already in the midst of their own bear markets, having tumbled by more than 20%, and the year is only just a month old. I've argued elsewhere that a market correction is not to be feared, and in fact should be celebrated, because one of the benefits a downturn brings is that good stocks become cheap, giving savvy investors a chance to swoop in and pick up shares at a discount.

The four stocks below are the biggest losers in the S&P 500 in 2022, so it's worth considering whether they are buys. Now, not every stock that craters is worth purchasing, as sometimes there could be something amiss in their operations that warrants the lower valuation. So with this quartet down between 28% and 33% from where they started the year, let's see if these index miscreants are opportunities -- or if you should stay away.

Etsy (down 28.3%)

Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) was a high-flying stock during the pandemic, particularly during the early days of the COVID outbreak when everyone wanted to know where to buy a face mask since they were in short supply. CEO Josh Silverman told Fortune at the time that traffic to the site spiked, with people specifically searching for "face masks" -- searches for the term hit nine per second.

You might think, with the urgency surrounding the pandemic having died down for most people, business would have slowed down for Etsy. Not so. The handcrafted and artistic goods e-commerce platform continues to post higher revenue, and is still adding more users each quarter. At the end of the third quarter, Etsy reported that gross merchandise sales (GMS) jumped 18% over last year, and were more than 2.5 times greater than the same period in 2019.

As Silverman noted in relation to Etsy's strong first-quarter results, "Last year the world took notice of Etsy's highly differentiated value proposition, and that incredible momentum has continued."

So why is Etsy's stock down? It seems mostly related to a sector rotation by the market transitioning away from previous high-flying tech stocks and those companies that benefited from the pandemic. Etsy ticked both those boxes, but its business remains strong and growing. It looks like a good candidate to pick up at a significant discount.

EPAM Systems (down 28.8%)

IT consultant EPAM Systems (NYSE:EPAM) is also mostly a victim of the stock market shunning growth tech stocks. It got socked by the pandemic as business slowed to a crawl because customers were leery about spending any money during lockdowns, but last year business turned up again with a vengeance.

Revenue was up 53% in the third quarter, almost breaching the $1 billion threshold, and the company is on track to post $1.1 billion in sales in the fourth quarter. Efficiency is critical for companies now, and EPAM helps businesses identify problems and create and implement solutions. Its deep pool of 47,000 engineers, designers, and consultants helps optimize business processes.

It has potential for even more growth, as analysts at IDC estimate enterprises will spend $6.5 trillion dollars on digital transformation initiatives over the next two years. The biggest risk facing EPA Systems seems to be if a recession hit, as it could cause companies to rein in their IT expenditures once again. Still, that would be just another short-term hiccup, and investors should have a much longer outlook for their investments. That makes EPAM's stock look like a good value.

Netflix (down 29.1%)

Yet another stock hammered by the world moving further away from the pandemic, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) was already trending lower since November. But the bottom fell out of its stock when the movie streamer reported fourth-quarter earnings.

Netflix fell short not only of analyst expectations for new subscriber additions, but its own guidance as well, and then warned it won't be adding many in the first quarter either. Profits also plunged 34% from the year-ago period. It was hardly the stellar performance the market had come to expect from the streaming service, but there's an argument to be made that the beating the stock took was a bit excessive.

Netflix is actually still growing. It now has 222 million subscribers, and it just imposed a new price increase in North America to help offset the slowing growth in this very mature market. International markets still offer enormous potential for bigger gains.

The streamer isn't the only one slowing down after a monstrous period of expansion during the lockdown portion of the pandemic. Disney (NYSE: DIS) also took a hit after Disney+ growth underwhelmed Wall Street.

As the leading streaming service, and one that's still growing and still has a lot of potential overseas, Netflix ought to be considered a buy at this new lower price.

Moderna (down 33.3%)

Hey, what do you know? Another pandemic favorite now down on its luck. Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) needs no introduction, as there's a chance you've been stuck by its vaccine for COVID-19, and maybe its booster shot, too. And both it and fellow vaccine maker Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) want to convince you an annual booster may be needed, too.

Should that become a reality, Moderna will be set for a steady flow of revenue. It's still quite likely that a stock market crash will happen sooner rather than later, as there have been 27 separate times since the end of World War II when the benchmark index has plunged 10% or more.Even though 80% of corrections do not turn into bear markets, according to data from the Schwab Center for Financial Research, it's always good to prepare for a collapse.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.But some stocks are already in the midst of their own bear markets, having tumbled by more than 20%, and the year is only just a month old. So with this quartet down between 28% and 33% from where they started the year, let's see if these index miscreants are opportunities -- or if you should stay away.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.Etsy (down 28.3%)Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) was a high-flying stock during the pandemic, particularly during the early days of the COVID outbreak when everyone wanted to know where to buy a face mask since they were in short supply. CEO Josh Silverman told Fortune at the time that traffic to the site spiked, with people specifically searching for \"face masks\" -- searches for the term hit nine per second. You might think, with the urgency surrounding the pandemic having died down for most people, business would have slowed down for Etsy. Not so. The handcrafted and artistic goods e-commerce platform continues to post higher revenue, and is still adding more users each quarter. At the end of the third quarter, Etsy reported that gross merchandise sales (GMS) jumped 18% over last year, and were more than 2.5 times greater than the same period in 2019.As Silverman noted in relation to Etsy's strong first-quarter results, \"Last year the world took notice of Etsy's highly differentiated value proposition, and that incredible momentum has continued.\"So why is Etsy's stock down? It seems mostly related to a sector rotation by the market transitioning away from previous high-flying tech stocks and those companies that benefited from the pandemic. Etsy ticked both those boxes, but its business remains strong and growing. It looks like a good candidate to pick up at a significant discount.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.EPAM Systems (down 28.8%)IT consultant EPAM Systems (NYSE:EPAM) is also mostly a victim of the stock market shunning growth tech stocks. It got socked by the pandemic as business slowed to a crawl because customers were leery about spending any money during lockdowns, but last year business turned up again with a vengeance.Revenue was up 53% in the third quarter, almost breaching the $1 billion threshold, and the company is on track to post $1.1 billion in sales in the fourth quarter. That makes EPAM's stock look like a good value.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.Netflix (down 29.1%)Yet another stock hammered by the world moving further away from the pandemic, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) was already trending lower since November. But the bottom fell out of its stock when the movie streamer reported fourth-quarter earnings.Netflix fell short not only of analyst expectations for new subscriber additions, but its own guidance as well, and then warned it won't be adding many in the first quarter either. Profits also plunged 34% from the year-ago period. It was hardly the stellar performance the market had come to expect from the streaming service, but there's an argument to be made that the beating the stock took was a bit excessive.Netflix is actually still growing. As the leading streaming service, and one that's still growing and still has a lot of potential overseas, Netflix ought to be considered a buy at this new lower price.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.Moderna (down 33.3%)Hey, what do you know? Another pandemic favorite now down on its luck. Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) needs no introduction, as there's a chance you've been stuck by its vaccine for COVID-19, and maybe its booster shot, too. And both it and fellow vaccine maker Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) want to convince you an annual booster may be needed, too.Should that become a reality, Moderna will be set for a steady flow of revenue. Its vaccine just got full authorization from the Food & Drug Administration, which eases concerns some held about a vaccine that was only brought to market under emergency-use authorization. While the influx of cash and profits has been the result of its vaccine, the proceeds will help Moderna finance its pipeline of other drug candidates and develop its mRNA technology to apply to other possible breakthroughs.Moderna stock is not only cheap price-wise, but across numerous metrics too. It trades at just 10 times trailing earnings, 6 times next year's estimates, at a fraction of its sales, and at only 5 times the free cash flow it produces.
