Zhang and Kevin Yao. China pledged on Thursday to increase the budget deficit, issue more debt and loosen monetary policy to maintain a stable economic growth rate as it gears up for more trade tensions with the United States. This dovish shift in messaging shows China is willing to go even deeper into debt, prioritising, at least in the near term, growth over financial risks, analysts said.At CEWC, Beijing sets targets for economic growth, the budget deficit, debt issuance and other variables for the year ahead. The targets are agreed at the meeting, but won't be officially released until an annual parliament meeting in March. Reuters reported last month that government advisers recommended that Beijing keeps its growth target of around 5% unchanged next year. The CEWC readout said it was \"necessary to maintain steady economic growth,\" but did not mention a specific number. The targets are agreed at the meeting, but won't be officially released until an annual parliament meeting in March.Reuters reported last month that government advisers recommended that Beijing keeps its growth target of around 5% unchanged next year. The CEWC readout said it was \"necessary to maintain steady economic growth,\" but did not mention a specific number.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"YANG":1.1,"HSTECH":1.1,"PDD":1.1,"00700":1.1,"XPEV":1.1,"NIO":1.1,"BABA":1.1,"YINN":1.1,"HSI":1.1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1957,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":288643422875672,"gmtCreate":1711502230194,"gmtModify":1711502233810,"author":{"id":"3575256884333459","authorId":"3575256884333459","name":"MorphyInc","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8fa62407baa49ccbcbca7d374aa8a803","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575256884333459","authorIdStr":"3575256884333459"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thank you big boys for giving ppl like me a 20% discount To building my dividend portfolio ","listText":"Thank you big boys for giving ppl like me a 20% discount To building my dividend portfolio ","text":"Thank you big boys for giving ppl like me a 20% discount To building my dividend portfolio","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/288643422875672","repostId":"2422671551","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2066,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":270929777332472,"gmtCreate":1707182759283,"gmtModify":1707182763625,"author":{"id":"3575256884333459","authorId":"3575256884333459","name":"MorphyInc","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8fa62407baa49ccbcbca7d374aa8a803","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575256884333459","authorIdStr":"3575256884333459"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Huat liao","listText":"Huat liao","text":"Huat liao","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/270929777332472","repostId":"1195609121","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1195609121","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1707144502,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1195609121?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-02-05 22:48","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nvidia Hits Record High as Goldman Sachs Boosts PT on AI Prospects","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195609121","media":"Reuters","summary":"Goldman Sachs raised its price target on Nvidia Corp on Monday.Analysts Toshiya Hari explained why in a research note today.Nvidia stock has more than tripled in the trailing twelve months.Nvidia Corp","content":"

Nvidia's shares scaled a new peak on Monday after Goldman Sachs raised its price target for the high-flying chipmaker's stock in anticipation of a major boost to its earnings from the artificial intelligence (AI) boom.

The stock rose 4.3% to $690.34 and looked set to add about $70 billion to the company's market capitalization. As tech hype cools and interest rates seem poised for a big shift, more speculative “growth” investments, primarily equity in quickly expanding or innovative companies, are having a rough few months. In their place, there’s more interest in so-called “value” investments, such as equity in companies that are already generating profits.

That has led to deep losses and varying degrees of embarrassment for investors who’ve made highly forward-looking bets. The tech-focused NASDAQ index has seenbig volatilityand is currently flat against its mid-January level. High-profile professional growth investors likeChamath Palihapitiya, just months ago a relentless and celebrated champion of a kind of less-transparent IPO known as a SPAC, have taken both financial and reputational hits.

David Z. Morris is CoinDesk’s Chief Insights Columnist.

A lot of attention has been focused on Ark Invest, which manages exchange-traded funds investing in things like fintech, genomics, and space exploration. Ark CEO Cathie Wood had become something of an investing rock star in recent years, thanks to a rich45% annualized returnover the past five years in its flagship Innovation Fund, which has grown to more than $50 billion in managed assets.

But the fund has dropped by close to 30% since mid-February, thanks to serious collapses of its stakes in everything fromgene-editing to Tesla. ARKK is also one of the largest holders of Coinbase stock, which is similarly down 25% since its IPO on April 14.

By and large, these drops have been driven less by disappointing current performance than shifting expectations about the future – arguably the defining risk of growth investing. Because the present price of growth investments is so dependent on projected returns far into the future, small present changes in a company’s results, positive or negative, can translate into huge impacts on the stock. The pandemic has encapsulated this perfectly: lockdowns created major spikes in “stay home” tech stocks because trendlines suddenly pointed to immense future growth, but reopening has pulled those expectations back down to Earth, driving a lot of ARKK’s losses.

(This is, it should be said, far preferable to the way some prominent speculative investments worked in the past. A practice known as mark-to-market accounting was widely abused by entities including Enron and Lehman Brothers in the 1990s and 200os, and basically amounted to letting growth companies disguise themselves as present successes by putting a price on their own future earnings and booking them as present revenue. But that’s a topic for another day.)

Perhaps even more significant than pandemic reversals are increases inTreasury Bond yieldsand inflation upticks that might lead the Fed to increase interest rates more quickly. Bond yields and interest rates in particular are a direct threat to growth investing because they create more attractive returns on very low-risk investments. At the same time, higher rates make debt and other capital more expensive for growth companies, who typically don’t have the cash flows to fund their own growth.

There’s no real way to escape these sorts of risks when you’re attempting to monetize the future. What matters is how a growth investor responds, and crucially, whether that response follows the same forward-leaning logic as the initial investing thesis. Wood is catching heat right now because of ARKK’s trouble, but her response has been nothing if not consistent: she has repeatedly and loudly declared that the slump in growth stocks is a buying opportunity, with falling prices only amplifying potential future returns.

Higher rates make debt and other capital more expensive for growth companies, who typically don’t have the cash flows to fund their own growth

Because Ark funds publicize their trades, we know Wood isn’t just talking: ARKK has been steadily buying assets like Square, Twilio, and even Zoom as the stocks head south. The fund is also aggressively buying the dip in Coinbase, growing its position as of today to 624 million shares – 3% of ARKK’s holdings and, incredibly, more than 10% of all Coinbase shares. That’s particularly bold because Coinbase could be described as a growth investment squared: its own growth deeply dependent on demand for assets that are, in turn, highly speculative themselves.

I assume Wood’s belief in her bets is sincere, but it’s also just good optics for a growth fund. Halting buys on Coinbase or other bets as they go down would be an implicit admission that previous buys at higher prices were a mistake. Buying an asset that’s slumping short-term is a strong signal of long-term belief.

Wood’s consistency, along with her track record, appear to have been fairly effective in helping investors keep the faith even in the face of short-term losses. It’s inevitable some will reflexively sell a ticker that drops 30% in four months, but according to Seeking Alpha, ARKK only saw$1 billion in capital outflows, or around 2% of the fund’s total assets, over the past week.

That’s far from amazing, and at that rate it could add up quickly, but it’s also far from a worst-case scenario. That’s because the American consumer is a contrarian stock-market indicator. More often than not over the past four decades, large declines in consumer confidence have been followed by above-average stock market returns.
\n
This should come as a big relief for Wall Street bulls, who have otherwise been fretting about the University of Michigan index’s latest reading. From a July level of 81.2,the index fell last week to 70.2. That’s the lowest since December 2011 — lower even than the lowest reading registered in the darkest early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
To appreciate how much this latest reading was unexpected, consider that the economists surveyed in advance by MarketWatch were predicting, on average, that the index would come in at 81.3 — a slight right rise from the July number.
\n
To analyze the significance of drops as big as this latest one, I calculated the correlations between monthly changes in the University of Michigan index since 1978 and the S&P 500’s subsequent performance on both an inflation- and dividend-adjusted basis. I found that whenever this sentiment index dropped by at least 10 percentage points, the S&P 500 over the subsequent three months gained an average of 3.6%.
\n
That’s double the 1.7% average three-month gain following months in which the consumer sentiment index gained at least 10 percentage points. Moreover, as evident in the chart below, this contrast at the six-month horizon is even greater: 7.5% versus 2.6%.
\n

\n
To be sure, there aren’t that many months since 1978 in which the consumer sentiment index rose or fell by this much. The inverse relationship between the sentiment index’s monthly changes and the U.S. stock market’s subsequent performance is only marginally statistically significant. So you should not use the occasion of the sentiment index’s big drop to throw caution to the wind.
\n
Nevertheless, if you want to believe that this historical relationship is statistically insignificant, you still can’t conclude that this most recent drop is a bad sign. You’d instead have to conclude that the University of Michigan index tells you nothing about the stock market’s prospects in coming months.
\n
So there you have it. Either this latest drop means nothing, or it is bullish. If you want to believe that this latest drop is bad news, you will have to base your argument on something other than U.S. stock market history since 1978.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
American consumers’ gray mood could put the S&P 500 in the green over the next 6 months
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAmerican consumers’ gray mood could put the S&P 500 in the green over the next 6 months\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-18 09:56 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Consumers’ sentiment is a contrarian indicator, so their current pessimism is bullish for stocks\nLast week’s unexpected plunge in the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is actually good ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".DJI":"道琼斯",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite"},"source_url":"https://www.marketwatch.com/story/american-consumers-gray-mood-could-put-the-s-p-500-in-the-green-over-the-next-6-months-11629181914?mod=home-page","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1118463201","content_text":"Consumers’ sentiment is a contrarian indicator, so their current pessimism is bullish for stocks\nLast week’s unexpected plunge in the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is actually good news for U.S. stock investors. I found that whenever this sentiment index dropped by at least 10 percentage points, the S&P 500 over the subsequent three months gained an average of 3.6%.\nThat’s double the 1.7% average three-month gain following months in which the consumer sentiment index gained at least 10 percentage points. Moreover, as evident in the chart below, this contrast at the six-month horizon is even greater: 7.5% versus 2.6%.\n\nTo be sure, there aren’t that many months since 1978 in which the consumer sentiment index rose or fell by this much. The inverse relationship between the sentiment index’s monthly changes and the U.S. stock market’s subsequent performance is only marginally statistically significant. So you should not use the occasion of the sentiment index’s big drop to throw caution to the wind.\nNevertheless, if you want to believe that this historical relationship is statistically insignificant, you still can’t conclude that this most recent drop is a bad sign. You’d instead have to conclude that the University of Michigan index tells you nothing about the stock market’s prospects in coming months.\nSo there you have it. Either this latest drop means nothing, or it is bullish. If you want to believe that this latest drop is bad news, you will have to base your argument on something other than U.S. stock market history since 1978.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".SPX":0.9,".IXIC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":839047673,"gmtCreate":1629111164192,"gmtModify":1676529933531,"author":{"id":"3575256884333459","authorId":"3575256884333459","name":"MorphyInc","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8fa62407baa49ccbcbca7d374aa8a803","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575256884333459","idStr":"3575256884333459"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$Time to realise?","listText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$Time to realise?","text":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$Time to realise?","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a6d6fdab76233540564c58b5be838b5f","width":"1170","height":"2026"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/839047673","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":348,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":178741254,"gmtCreate":1626840953778,"gmtModify":1703766219124,"author":{"id":"3575256884333459","authorId":"3575256884333459","name":"MorphyInc","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8fa62407baa49ccbcbca7d374aa8a803","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575256884333459","idStr":"3575256884333459"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Maybe a technical rebound or a passing phase, keep a close watch on the data coming out this 27 Jul. Those searching for signs of ","content":"
Investors are always trying to anticipate the next stock market crash. Those searching for signs of the next major downturn for the market got some evidence supporting the idea that it could come sooner rather than later, with investors continuing to worry about the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and in other areas of the world. As of 11:15 a.m. EDT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average(DJINDICES:^DJI)was down 767 points to 33,921. The S&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC)had dropped 65 points to 4,262, and the Nasdaq Composite(NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)was lower by 143 points to 14,284.
\n
You can always make a bearish case for why the stock market should stop going up, at least in the short run. However, investors spend too much time trying to figure out exact timing. If you're truly worried about your exposure to the stock market, then the time to take action isbeforethe worst of the next bear market happens. Below, we'll take a closer look at what's hitting the market today and what response might be most appropriate.
\n
Slowing down
\n
Many investors couldn't understand the huge gains that the stock market has produced over the past 15 months. Even as the global economy struggled under the weight of pandemic-caused lockdowns, the stock market reflected a level of optimism that simply didn't seem to be there yet. Eventually, vaccines led to reopenings, which in turn started to help lift the prospects for companies hit hard by the pandemic.
\n
Now, though, the fear among investors is that the markets have gotten ahead of themselves. As the delta variant helps stoke rising COVID-19 case counts, the idea that the pandemic would soon no longer be a major factor in the economy is starting to lose credibility.
\n
That change of attitude is having dramatic impacts across the financial markets:
\n
\n
Bond yields have plunged as investors seek the reliable, though minuscule, returns available from fixed income securities. Ten-year Treasury yields dropped below 1.2% Monday morning, and after having seen some upward movement in recent months, international bond yields now appear likely to remain negative in many countries throughout Europe for the foreseeable future.
\n
The drop in long-term rates has hit financial stocks hard, withGoldman Sachs(NYSE:GS)leading big banks lower with a nearly 4% drop. Financials are playing a major role in pulling the Dow down by a larger percentage than other markets on Monday.
\n
Signs ofinflationary pressureare showing early signs of potentially reversing. The S&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC)had dropped 65 points to 4,262, and the Nasdaq Composite(NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)was lower by 143 points to 14,284.\nYou can always make a bearish case for why the stock market should stop going up, at least in the short run. However, investors spend too much time trying to figure out exact timing. If you're truly worried about your exposure to the stock market, then the time to take action isbeforethe worst of the next bear market happens. Below, we'll take a closer look at what's hitting the market today and what response might be most appropriate.\nSlowing down\nMany investors couldn't understand the huge gains that the stock market has produced over the past 15 months. Even as the global economy struggled under the weight of pandemic-caused lockdowns, the stock market reflected a level of optimism that simply didn't seem to be there yet. Eventually, vaccines led to reopenings, which in turn started to help lift the prospects for companies hit hard by the pandemic.\nNow, though, the fear among investors is that the markets have gotten ahead of themselves. As the delta variant helps stoke rising COVID-19 case counts, the idea that the pandemic would soon no longer be a major factor in the economy is starting to lose credibility.\nThat change of attitude is having dramatic impacts across the financial markets:\n\nBond yields have plunged as investors seek the reliable, though minuscule, returns available from fixed income securities. Ten-year Treasury yields dropped below 1.2% Monday morning, and after having seen some upward movement in recent months, international bond yields now appear likely to remain negative in many countries throughout Europe for the foreseeable future.\nThe drop in long-term rates has hit financial stocks hard, withGoldman Sachs(NYSE:GS)leading big banks lower with a nearly 4% drop. Financials are playing a major role in pulling the Dow down by a larger percentage than other markets on Monday.\nSigns ofinflationary pressureare showing early signs of potentially reversing. Crude oil fell nearly $5 per barrel on Monday, falling to $67 per barrel and causing oil-related stocks to fall.Chevron(NYSE:CVX)was among the Dow's weakest performers, falling more than 3% Monday morning.\nMeanwhile, some stocks are benefiting.Moderna(NASDAQ:MRNA)shares rose, perhaps in anticipation ofgreater vaccine sales, whilePeloton Interactive(NASDAQ:PTON)also gained ground as some anticipate that more fitness enthusiasts might stay home if health risk levels increase.\n\nMeanwhile, cyclical stocks in areas like industrials and materials are also particularly weak. The declines are coming after a generally strong performance over the past year.\nDon't panic -- but be ready for what might come next\nIt's always hard to deal with market downturns, and in particular, the long-term rise in the Dow makes declines seem worse than they really are. Drops of 2% have always been commonplace on Wall Street, but with the Dow having jumped as far as it has, the inevitable \"Dow Down 700+\" headlines always look more ominous.\nPanic-selling after a stock market crash almost never works out well, and that's why feeling comfortable with your current level of riskbeforea crash comes is so important.
