They also have a more recent history of generating incredible stock price appreciation. But part of investing is buying stocks with a focus on anticipated <i>future</i> performance. Can these two dividend stocks keep it up over the next decade?</p><p>Let&#39;s take a closer look at these two companies and see whether they deserve a spot in the portfolios of dividend-seeking investors in 2022 and beyond.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f6a6e57b61949c9aa21c44a0a2af604\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>1. Target</h2><p>Speaking of mature companies, Target was founded in 1902. The Minneapolis-based corporation has thrived since the pandemic onset. It was deemed an essential retailer and allowed to stay open while nonessential businesses were forced to close. That factor, among others, caused Target&#39;s sales to surge. More impressively, sales have kept rising even as economies have reopened. Indeed, sales in the trailing 12 months are 48% higher than the previous 12 months.</p><p>One strength that has allowed Target to thrive during the pandemic could enable it to do well over the rest of the decade. It has developed an excellent omnichannel shopping experience. Consumers can shop at a Target store, on its mobile app, or its website. They can choose from multiple options on how to receive their order, including standard free delivery to their home, picking it up inside a Target store, driving up to a Target parking lot and having an employee deliver it to their car, or same-day delivery within hours of purchase for a small fee.</p><p>The multiple options have resonated well with customers and their unique preferences. Target&#39;s same-day services in particular have driven over $6 billion in sales growth in the last two years. It can also cost less for Target to fulfill orders through these new methods versus the traditional standard free delivery to customers&#39; homes. That can partly explain why management is forecasting Target will generate an operating profit margin of over 8% in the fiscal year 2021, its highest in the last decade.</p><p>Importantly, dividends are paid out of profits. Therefore, dividend investors could benefit from Target&#39;s increasing sales that are boosting profit margins. Management recently increased Target&#39;s quarterly dividend by 32.4% to $0.90 per share. That increase marks the 50th straight year of annual dividend increases for the retailer, qualifying it as a Dividend King.</p><p>The sustainability of Target&#39;s per share dividend is further strengthened by the fact that Target generated a free cash flow per share of at least $4 every year since 2014. Of course, its free cash flow has surged since the pandemic onset, which is even more reason supporting its dividend and potential increases in the coming years.</p><p>Target&#39;s payout is generating a dividend yield of 1.36%, which is in line with the <b>S&amp;P 500</b> as a whole. For both Target and the S&amp;P 500, the relatively low yield is more a reflection of the strong price performance recently artificially lowering the yield. Continued increases to the per-share dividend could raise that yield higher for investors who buy the stock today and hold through the decade.</p><h2>2. Home Depot</h2><p>Like Target, Home Depot has thrived since the pandemic&#39;s onset. Through a combination of government-mandated business closures and personal decisions, folks have been spending a lot more time working and learning from home. As a result of rapidly evolving lifestyles, folks have decided to make changes to their home.</p><p>In the nine months ended Oct. 31, Home Depot&#39;s sales reached $115 billion, up 15.6% from the same period the year before. That&#39;s more than double the annual 6.9% revenue growth Home Depot achieved over the last decade. Over the next decade, look for the annual revenue growth rate to hit closer to the past decade&#39;s average than to maintain that double-digit rate. Still, the long-run growth rate has been strong enough for Home Depot to deliver compounded earnings-per-share growth of 19.5% during the same timeframe.</p><p>That EPS growth rate should be plenty enough to support Home Depot&#39;s quarterly per-share dividend of $1.65. At a stock price hovering around $412, it has a dividend yield of 1.6%, which is not too shabby for income-seeking investors. Like Target, Home Depot generates sufficient free cash flow to support a stable and growing dividend. In every year since 2014, Home Depot generated more in free cash flow than it paid out in dividends (see chart).</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6b7c3331b3af911bfc73456acb7ed24d\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"436\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data By YCharts.</span></p><p>Note too, that the yield is a bit depressed lately because of the strong stock price appreciation Home Depot has seen over the past couple of years. The stock price is up roughly 170% since hitting March 2020 lows at the start of the pandemic. The price appreciation also shows very little sign of slowing.</p><h2>Investor takeaway</h2><p>Target and Home Depot are both excellent businesses that have consistently increased revenue and profits over the long run. The companies are in a good position to do well in the next decade and deliver consistent dividends throughout. Indeed, sales in the trailing 12 months are 48% higher than the previous 12 months.One strength that has allowed Target to thrive during the pandemic could enable it to do well over the rest of the decade. It has developed an excellent omnichannel shopping experience. Consumers can shop at a Target store, on its mobile app, or its website. They can choose from multiple options on how to receive their order, including standard free delivery to their home, picking it up inside a Target store, driving up to a Target parking lot and having an employee deliver it to their car, or same-day delivery within hours of purchase for a small fee.The multiple options have resonated well with customers and their unique preferences. Target's same-day services in particular have driven over $6 billion in sales growth in the last two years. It can also cost less for Target to fulfill orders through these new methods versus the traditional standard free delivery to customers' homes. That can partly explain why management is forecasting Target will generate an operating profit margin of over 8% in the fiscal year 2021, its highest in the last decade.Importantly, dividends are paid out of profits. Therefore, dividend investors could benefit from Target's increasing sales that are boosting profit margins. Management recently increased Target's quarterly dividend by 32.4% to $0.90 per share. That increase marks the 50th straight year of annual dividend increases for the retailer, qualifying it as a Dividend King.The sustainability of Target's per share dividend is further strengthened by the fact that Target generated a free cash flow per share of at least $4 every year since 2014. Of course, its free cash flow has surged since the pandemic onset, which is even more reason supporting its dividend and potential increases in the coming years.Target's payout is generating a dividend yield of 1.36%, which is in line with the S&P 500 as a whole. For both Target and the S&P 500, the relatively low yield is more a reflection of the strong price performance recently artificially lowering the yield. Continued increases to the per-share dividend could raise that yield higher for investors who buy the stock today and hold through the decade.2. Home DepotLike Target, Home Depot has thrived since the pandemic's onset. Through a combination of government-mandated business closures and personal decisions, folks have been spending a lot more time working and learning from home. As a result of rapidly evolving lifestyles, folks have decided to make changes to their home.In the nine months ended Oct. 31, Home Depot's sales reached $115 billion, up 15.6% from the same period the year before. That's more than double the annual 6.9% revenue growth Home Depot achieved over the last decade. Over the next decade, look for the annual revenue growth rate to hit closer to the past decade's average than to maintain that double-digit rate. Still, the long-run growth rate has been strong enough for Home Depot to deliver compounded earnings-per-share growth of 19.5% during the same timeframe.That EPS growth rate should be plenty enough to support Home Depot's quarterly per-share dividend of $1.65. At a stock price hovering around $412, it has a dividend yield of 1.6%, which is not too shabby for income-seeking investors. Like Target, Home Depot generates sufficient free cash flow to support a stable and growing dividend. Pfizer(NYSE:PFE)and Moderna (MRNA) have been the biggest winners among big names.Reportsabout blood clots and adverse reactions did not help its cause almost immediately after the launch. The company did itself no favor with its own manufacturing and wastage problems as well. With the Fed's money printing policy and stimulus, investors (wondering if that is the right word here) were looking for riskier bets with higher pay offs. Earnings didn't matter. Dividends didn't matter. Hype mattered. Memes mattered. However, as we stated in our recent article on Altria, fundamentals don't matter until they do.</p>\n<p>Now, let's look at the things investors can look forward to in 2022.</p>\n<p><b>Spin-Off Progress</b></p>\n<p>JNJ recently&nbsp;announced&nbsp;that it plans to spin off its consumer products into a separate business. While the spin off is expected to take 18 to 24 months, it is highly likely that the company will be providing meaningful updates towards the goal. We found the CFO Joseph Wolk's quote in the article linked above interesting. The company believes the consumer division is not getting the spotlight it deserves, suppressing the overall valuation.</p>\n<p>Spin-offs may bring some bad memories but some recent spin-offs in Healthcare have not been terribly bad in the overall context. AbbVie (ABBV) has been a strong performer and let's not forget that it was a spin off from Abbott (ABT) in 2013.</p>\n<p>Pfizer's stock has seen a tremendous appreciation thanks to COVID vaccines and pills, while its spin-off Viatris (VTRS) has been much slower. This comparison augurs well for investors' sense since JNJ's pharmaceutical and medical devices division, which make up 85% of the company's earnings, will retain the company's current name. This is not to put down JNJ's consumer health group that has many well-known products like Band-Aid and Baby Powder.</p>\n<p><b>Market Rotation</b></p>\n<p>The last few weeks have been interesting to say the least. Omicron, Fed, Interest Rates, and Inflation have combined together to cause some wild swings in both directions. However, one cannot deny that value and safety names are getting a bid. And not many names are safer than JNJ. In terms of valuation, the stock is trading at a forward earnings multiple of 16 based on 2022 earnings estimate.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a4905c691cf7974bb1103af6cc6f9660\" tg-width=\"1189\" tg-height=\"121\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source:Seeking Alpha)</span></p>\n<p><b>Dividend Growth</b></p>\n<p>Going by the company'strack record, investors can be assured of a dividend increase in April, which would mark their<b>60th</b>consecutive dividend increase. Let that sink in for a minute. In a market where companies that IPOd in the last decade or less is all the rage, JNJ has been around for<b>135</b>years. Even more impressive is the company's dividend growth streak is five years from entering the senior citizen category.</p>\n<p>JNJ's dividend growth rate has been between 5% and 6% the last few years. The table below shows the expected yield on cost assuming a 5% annual dividend increase. Yield on cost is not a popular metric but we use it to get an initial assessment of the safety net.</p>\n<p>4% yield 10 yrs from now may not look earth shattering right now but as we've mentioned in many of our past articles, dividend stalwarts tend to have a base yield that the market associate them with. For example, Coca-Cola's (KO) yield at any point has very rarely been above 3.50% in spite of the company's dividend growth pedigree. This is because investors (retail and funds) bid up the stock price over time to catch up with the dividend increases. This gets more pronounced during sell offs like the first COVID sell off in 2020.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33bc6fbc74a2f32f2c79a43c64e9fc07\" tg-width=\"907\" tg-height=\"275\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>(Source: Table compiled by author with current dividend data from Seeking Alpha)</span></p>\n<p><b>Pedigree</b></p>\n<p>A 2016studyfound that the average life span of companies in S&amp;P 500 has gone down 70% from 61 years to 18 years. We continue reinvesting our dividends into JNJ and plan to add on pullbacks. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first <i>Call of Duty</i> title was released,&nbsp;would be worth nearly $30,000 today.</p>\n<p>The <i>Call of Duty</i> franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter.&nbsp;With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.</p>\n<p>Making big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.</p>\n<p>It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.</p>\n<p>Activision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including <i>World of Warcraft</i>, <i>Diablo</i>, and <i>Overwatch</i>. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet,&nbsp;which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.</p>\n<h2>2. Electronic Arts</h2>\n<p>Electronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably <i>Madden</i> and <i>FIFA</i>. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It&nbsp;has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.</p>\n<p>Most importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter <i>Apex Legends</i> launched in 2019&nbsp;and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings.&nbsp;EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous <i>NCAA Football</i> franchise under the new title <i>EA Sports College Football</i>, which should be released within the next few years.</p>\n<p>EA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work.&nbsp;So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic.&nbsp;These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's&nbsp;expansion into mobile.</p>\n<p>In fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year,&nbsp;which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%.&nbsp;The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.</p>\n<h2>3. Tencent</h2>\n<p>Tencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China.&nbsp;It owns Riot Games,&nbsp;the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in <i>League of Legends</i>. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.</p>\n<p>Gaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Activision Blizzard\nActivision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.\nThe Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.\nMaking big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.\nIt pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.\nActivision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.\n2. Electronic Arts\nElectronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.\nMost importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.\nEA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.\nIn fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.\n3. Tencent\nTencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.\nGaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.</p>\n<p>The handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain <b>AMC Entertainment</b> (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.</p>\n<h2>Wall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme</h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"</p>\n<p>The bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.</p>\n<p>Prior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Nowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.</li>\n <li>Losing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.</li>\n <li>Contending with billions of dollars in additional debt.</li>\n <li>Carrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.</li>\n <li>Clearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., <b>Walt Disney</b>'s Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for <i>Black Widow</i>).</li>\n</ul>\n<p>To boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Shares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.</li>\n <li>Buying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>It may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.</p>\n<h2>This trio of stocks can go to the moon</h2>\n<p>The good news is that there <i>are</i> companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.</p>\n<h2>Sea Limited</h2>\n<p>Don't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based <b>Sea Limited</b> (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.</p>\n<p>For the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.</p>\n<p>Over the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.</p>\n<p>Thirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.</p>\n<h2>Skillz</h2>\n<p>Another high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company <b>Skillz</b> (NYSE:SKLZ).</p>\n<p>Admittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.</p>\n<p>When the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.</p>\n<p>Skillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL). Football is the most popular sport by a long shot in the U.S. The expectation is that we'll see NFL-themed games and competitions hitting the platform by no later than 2022.</p>\n<p>Though Skillz is likely to lose money through 2022 as it beefs up marketing, its insane growth potential and potentially lucrative margins can't be overlooked.</p>\n<h2>Trulieve Cannabis</h2>\n<p>A final stock that can go to the moon is U.S. marijuana stock <b>Trulieve Cannabis</b> (OTC:TCNNF). According to <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NFC.U\">New Frontier</a> Data, the U.S. pot industry could be generating north of $41 billion in annual sales by 2025.</p>\n<p>Whereas most U.S. multistate operators are angling to have a presence in as many legalized markets as possible, Trulieve has taken on a strategy that looked odd at first, but has paid off incredibly well. Of the 91 dispensaries it had open in early July, 85 of them were located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. By absolutely saturating the Sunshine State, Trulieve has effectively gobbled up around half of all dried cannabis flower and oils market share. At the same time, its marketing costs have been kept low, pushing the company to 13 consecutive quarters of profitability.</p>\n<p>But make no mistake about it, Trulieve does have aspirations of moving beyond Florida. For instance, it recently announced the largest U.S. cannabis acquisition in history -- a $2.1 billion all-stock deal to acquire multistate operator <b>Harvest Health &amp; Recreation</b> (OTC:HRVSF). Harvest has a focus on five states, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of which is Florida. This means Trulieve's presence in the Sunshine State will soon get even bigger.</p>\n<p>However, the real lure of this deal is the 15 dispensaries Harvest Health operates in its home market of Arizona, a state that legalized recreational weed in November. Trulieve shouldn't have any problem taking its Florida blueprint and applying it in other key markets. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.\nThe handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.\nWall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme\nUnfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"\nThe bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.\nPrior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:\n\nNowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.\nLosing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.\nContending with billions of dollars in additional debt.\nCarrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.\nClearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., Walt Disney's Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for Black Widow).\n\nTo boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:\n\nShares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.\nBuying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.\n\nIt may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.\nThis trio of stocks can go to the moon\nThe good news is that there are companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.\nSea Limited\nDon't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.\nFor the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.\nOver the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.\nThirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.\nSkillz\nAnother high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ).\nAdmittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.\nWhen the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.\nSkillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL). Football is the most popular sport by a long shot in the U.S. The expectation is that we'll see NFL-themed games and competitions hitting the platform by no later than 2022.\nThough Skillz is likely to lose money through 2022 as it beefs up marketing, its insane growth potential and potentially lucrative margins can't be overlooked.\nTrulieve Cannabis\nA final stock that can go to the moon is U.S. marijuana stock Trulieve Cannabis (OTC:TCNNF). According to New Frontier Data, the U.S. pot industry could be generating north of $41 billion in annual sales by 2025.\nWhereas most U.S. multistate operators are angling to have a presence in as many legalized markets as possible, Trulieve has taken on a strategy that looked odd at first, but has paid off incredibly well. Of the 91 dispensaries it had open in early July, 85 of them were located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. By absolutely saturating the Sunshine State, Trulieve has effectively gobbled up around half of all dried cannabis flower and oils market share. At the same time, its marketing costs have been kept low, pushing the company to 13 consecutive quarters of profitability.\nBut make no mistake about it, Trulieve does have aspirations of moving beyond Florida. For instance, it recently announced the largest U.S. cannabis acquisition in history -- a $2.1 billion all-stock deal to acquire multistate operator Harvest Health & Recreation (OTC:HRVSF). Harvest has a focus on five states, one of which is Florida. This means Trulieve's presence in the Sunshine State will soon get even bigger.\nHowever, the real lure of this deal is the 15 dispensaries Harvest Health operates in its home market of Arizona, a state that legalized recreational weed in November. Trulieve shouldn't have any problem taking its Florida blueprint and applying it in other key markets. We know this because Robinhood added approximately 3 million new users in 2020.</p>\n<p>There are a number of lures for retail investors with Robinhood. For example, Robinhood doesn't charge a commission when stocks that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange or <b>Nasdaq</b>&nbsp;exchange are bought or sold. Robinhood is also <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of many brokerages that allows for fractional share investing. And, who can forget that Robinhood also gifts free shares of stock to new users.</p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> respect, it's a fantastic thing to see young people putting their money to work. Time is the biggest ally investors have. The earlier they start putting their money to work, the better chance they have of compounding their nest egg.</p>\n<p>On the other hand, Robinhood's retail investors have been buying some really awful stocks. Table by author.</p>\n<h2>Continuing to chase meme stocks</h2>\n<p>Like bees to honey, retail investors have been inseparable from meme stocks for almost six months. A meme stock is a company valued more for its social media favorability/hype than its operating performance.</p>\n<p>Since mid-January, retail investors have been banding together to buy shares and out-of-the-money call options on stocks with high levels of short interest. In many instances, companies with high levels of short interest have poor-performing businesses. This is how we've witnessed GameStop and AMC Entertainment become extremely popular on Robinhood.</p>\n<p>The good news for GameStop is that it's been able to use its monumental run to sell shares of common stock and raise capital. It's completely erased its debt and given itself more than enough cash to oversee its ongoing transformation into a digital gaming company. To be clear, this doesn't negate the fact that GameStop's previous management team completely dropped the ball on the shift to digital gaming. What it does do is give the company enough capital to at least attempt a transformation.</p>\n<p>The same can't be said for AMC, which sold the vast majority of its shares six months ago to avoid bankruptcy. Even with a handful of recent capital raises, AMC has well over $3 billion in net debt, and its 2027 bond prices indicate the company is still a bankruptcy risk.</p>\n<p>To make matters worse, movie theater ticket sales have been in a 19-year decline. Even with a larger share of the movie theater industry, AMC's pie is shrinking. It's pretty clear that social media hype, ignorance of fundamental data, and misinformation are the key drivers behind AMC's irrational rally.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bc514068ded899a817770f684369db36\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Canadian cannabis binge</h2>\n<p>Robinhood's retail investors also have quite the crush on Canadian marijuana stocks. Five of the 33 most-held companies on Robinhood's leaderboard hail from our neighbor to the north.</p>\n<p>Even though cannabis-focused research company BDSA has forecasted weed sales growth in Canada from $2.6 billion in 2020 to $6.4 billion by 2026, the Canadian pot industry has been a disaster. Regulators have caused all sorts of supply chain issues, consumers have flocked to lower-margin value brands, and Canadian marijuana stocks overzealously expanded and, in some instances, decimated their balance sheets in the process.</p>\n<p>Robinhood investors' fascination with Sundial Growers is nothing short of frustrating. It may well be the single most-avoidable marijuana stock. Although its management team was able to pay off the company's existing debt by issuing stock and conducting debt-for-equity swaps, these share offerings simply haven't stopped. In a little over a seven-month stretch, more than 1.35 billion shares were issued. Sundial is showing zero regard for its shareholders, and its management team hasn't even laid out a concrete plan for how it'll spend its cash.</p>\n<p>We've seen similar issues from Aurora Cannabis, the second most-popular Canadian weed stock. Once the most-held stock on Robinhood, Aurora has drowned its shareholders in dilution. Even after selling one of its greenhouses and shuttering a number of other cultivation facilities, its cost-cutting has put it nowhere near close to generating a profit. As long as Aurora keeps burning through cash, its management team will continue to issue stock.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e0e9f554fbd3314fbbb8ba78c5a65d3e\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"524\"><span>Image source: American Airlines.</span></p>\n<h2>An obsession with travel companies</h2>\n<p>Another absolute head-scratcher is Robinhood investors' obsession with travel companies -- specifically airlines and cruise ship operators.</p>\n<p>On one hand, the case could be made that the coronavirus pandemic overly punished the travel industry. Though we remain firmly in a global pandemic, increased domestic vaccination rates offer hope that the U.S. could soon put the pandemic in the rearview mirror. For instance, the Transportation Security Administration screened over 2 million passengers in a single day in mid-June for the first time since before the pandemic was declared.</p>\n<p>On the other hand, the travel industry tends to be built on mediocre margins, at best, and it typically requires the economy to be running on all cylinders. Despite recovering from a recession, most airline stocks are now lugging around billions in extra debt that they didn't have two years ago. American Airlines, which I've previously anointed as the worst airline stock, has $34 billion in net debt and $48 billion in aggregate debt. The interest American Airlines is going to have to pay to service this debt could cripple its growth initiatives for the next decade.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, companies like Norwegian Cruise Line came perilously close to bankruptcy during the pandemic. Unlike airlines, which are essential for business travel, cruise ships aren't essential. They'll remain at the mercy of the pandemic until it's firmly in the rearview mirror. That means Norwegian may continue losing money well into 2022, if not beyond.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bd808070a9dde55f37210b59edc2e23\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"393\"><span>A Tesla Model S plugged in for charging. Image source: Tesla.</span></p>\n<h2>Alternative energy for autos in focus</h2>\n<p>Lastly, Robinhood investors appear to be going all-in on anything that has to do with alternative/clean energy for vehicles.</p>\n<p>Electric vehicle (EV) kingpin Tesla has surpassed Apple to become the most-held stock on the platform, while Ford, General Motors, Workhorse Group, NIO, and Churchill Capital are other EV producers that found their way into the top 50 leaderboard (GM and Ford predominantly produce combustion-engine vehicles at the moment). If we also include Plug Power, FuelCell Energy, and Ideanomics, that's nine of the top 48 Robinhood stocks that are devoted to alternative energy adoption for autos.</p>\n<p>There's pretty much no question at this point that EVs and potentially hydrogen fuel cells represent the future of the automotive industry. We know this because Robinhood added approximately 3 million new users in 2020.\nThere are a number of lures for retail investors with Robinhood. For example, Robinhood doesn't charge a commission when stocks that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq exchange are bought or sold. Robinhood is also one of many brokerages that allows for fractional share investing. And, who can forget that Robinhood also gifts free shares of stock to new users.\nIn one respect, it's a fantastic thing to see young people putting their money to work. The earlier they start putting their money to work, the better chance they have of compounding their nest egg.\nOn the other hand, Robinhood's retail investors have been buying some really awful stocks. Table by author.\nContinuing to chase meme stocks\nLike bees to honey, retail investors have been inseparable from meme stocks for almost six months. A meme stock is a company valued more for its social media favorability/hype than its operating performance.\nSince mid-January, retail investors have been banding together to buy shares and out-of-the-money call options on stocks with high levels of short interest. In many instances, companies with high levels of short interest have poor-performing businesses. This is how we've witnessed GameStop and AMC Entertainment become extremely popular on Robinhood.\nThe good news for GameStop is that it's been able to use its monumental run to sell shares of common stock and raise capital. It's completely erased its debt and given itself more than enough cash to oversee its ongoing transformation into a digital gaming company. To be clear, this doesn't negate the fact that GameStop's previous management team completely dropped the ball on the shift to digital gaming. What it does do is give the company enough capital to at least attempt a transformation.\nThe same can't be said for AMC, which sold the vast majority of its shares six months ago to avoid bankruptcy. Even with a handful of recent capital raises, AMC has well over $3 billion in net debt, and its 2027 bond prices indicate the company is still a bankruptcy risk.\nTo make matters worse, movie theater ticket sales have been in a 19-year decline. Even with a larger share of the movie theater industry, AMC's pie is shrinking. It's pretty clear that social media hype, ignorance of fundamental data, and misinformation are the key drivers behind AMC's irrational rally.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nCanadian cannabis binge\nRobinhood's retail investors also have quite the crush on Canadian marijuana stocks. Five of the 33 most-held companies on Robinhood's leaderboard hail from our neighbor to the north.\nEven though cannabis-focused research company BDSA has forecasted weed sales growth in Canada from $2.6 billion in 2020 to $6.4 billion by 2026, the Canadian pot industry has been a disaster. Regulators have caused all sorts of supply chain issues, consumers have flocked to lower-margin value brands, and Canadian marijuana stocks overzealously expanded and, in some instances, decimated their balance sheets in the process.\nRobinhood investors' fascination with Sundial Growers is nothing short of frustrating. It may well be the single most-avoidable marijuana stock. Although its management team was able to pay off the company's existing debt by issuing stock and conducting debt-for-equity swaps, these share offerings simply haven't stopped. In a little over a seven-month stretch, more than 1.35 billion shares were issued. Sundial is showing zero regard for its shareholders, and its management team hasn't even laid out a concrete plan for how it'll spend its cash.\nWe've seen similar issues from Aurora Cannabis, the second most-popular Canadian weed stock. Once the most-held stock on Robinhood, Aurora has drowned its shareholders in dilution. Even after selling one of its greenhouses and shuttering a number of other cultivation facilities, its cost-cutting has put it nowhere near close to generating a profit. As long as Aurora keeps burning through cash, its management team will continue to issue stock.\nImage source: American Airlines.\nAn obsession with travel companies\nAnother absolute head-scratcher is Robinhood investors' obsession with travel companies -- specifically airlines and cruise ship operators.\nOn one hand, the case could be made that the coronavirus pandemic overly punished the travel industry. Though we remain firmly in a global pandemic, increased domestic vaccination rates offer hope that the U.S. could soon put the pandemic in the rearview mirror. For instance, the Transportation Security Administration screened over 2 million passengers in a single day in mid-June for the first time since before the pandemic was declared.\nOn the other hand, the travel industry tends to be built on mediocre margins, at best, and it typically requires the economy to be running on all cylinders. Despite recovering from a recession, most airline stocks are now lugging around billions in extra debt that they didn't have two years ago. American Airlines, which I've previously anointed as the worst airline stock, has $34 billion in net debt and $48 billion in aggregate debt. The interest American Airlines is going to have to pay to service this debt could cripple its growth initiatives for the next decade.\nMeanwhile, companies like Norwegian Cruise Line came perilously close to bankruptcy during the pandemic. Unlike airlines, which are essential for business travel, cruise ships aren't essential. They'll remain at the mercy of the pandemic until it's firmly in the rearview mirror. Image source: Tesla.\nAlternative energy for autos in focus\nLastly, Robinhood investors appear to be going all-in on anything that has to do with alternative/clean energy for vehicles.\nElectric vehicle (EV) kingpin Tesla has surpassed Apple to become the most-held stock on the platform, while Ford, General Motors, Workhorse Group, NIO, and Churchill Capital are other EV producers that found their way into the top 50 leaderboard (GM and Ford predominantly produce combustion-engine vehicles at the moment). If we also include Plug Power, FuelCell Energy, and Ideanomics, that's nine of the top 48 Robinhood stocks that are devoted to alternative energy adoption for autos.\nThere's pretty much no question at this point that EVs and potentially hydrogen fuel cells represent the future of the automotive industry. However, I declare that this is far from the full story.</p>\n<p>As I go through the positives and negatives of Disney's thesis, I proclaim that its stock is still cheaply valued, even now.</p>\n<p>Ultimately, Disney is priced at 34x next year's earnings, which is not expensive for what's at play here.</p>\n<p><b>What's the Bull Thesis Right Now?</b></p>\n<p>Disney's stock has been a solid performer during the past twelve months, driven by the consistently positive news flow that Disney+ could be perceived by many households as a necessary streaming package - either alongside Netflix (NFLX) or in some households instead of Netflix.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, investors had been willing to put aside the fact that Disney's Parks and Experiences have been operating as a shell of its former self during the past twelve months with the expectation that Disney+ would be the future driver of the stock's performance.</p>\n<p>Indeed, investors have been fed a consistent diet of Disney+'s progress to the point that anything less than a positive surprise there, together with its earnings results, should be viewed as less inspiring that they showed apathy towards the stock last week.</p>\n<p>As a reminder, even though Disney+ had&nbsp;104 million subscribers, a substantial number of its latest increase was driven by India's Disney Plus Hotstar, lending itself towards Disney+'s APRU being down 29% y/y to $3.99.</p>\n<p>However, I believe that there are more moving parts to this story.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/da684fea62f5c9ef33c5c223f56890e2\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"290\"><span>Source: author's calculations, press statements</span></p>\n<p>The story is now about to unfold in an interesting way. There are two paths to this story that are worth bearing in mind.</p>\n<p>The first path, as we can see above, is as Disney starts lapping its challenging 2020 period so that its performance into 2021 will start to look very strong.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, even though Disney's Parks are operating with limited capacity a present, investors understand that the end of restrictions in the US and China is nearing. This will be a very positive driver of the story for new shareholders to the stock.</p>\n<p>Consider that, if we look back two years ago to&nbsp;Q2 2019, Disney's Parks, Experiences, and Products segment was reporting 25% operating margins. Moreover, this segment alone was responsible for 40% of Disney's operating income.</p>\n<p>In other words, approximately 40% of Disney's bottom line has been hugely impacted over the past twelve months, but as investors start to reprice this stock over the next two to three years, investors will be casting their eyes towards Disney's Parks, Experiences, and Products segment has a substantial driver of cash flows.</p>\n<p>This segment is very important because it will be the foundation that will allow Disney to reinvest back into its Disney+ segment and to chip away at its meaningfully overleveraged balance sheet. Remember, Disney still carries a net debt position of $40 billion as of Q2 2021.</p>\n<p>Now, let's discuss the second path to the story.</p>\n<p><b>Funding Disney+ Will be Challenging</b></p>\n<p>Households have a love-hate affection towards Netflix. On the one hand, its library is huge. On the other hand, after years of multi-billion dollar investment, many of its titles are mediocre at best. Yet, when it boils down to it, households still tune in and remain&nbsp;highly engaged&nbsp;with Netflix.</p>\n<p>But where Disney will find it difficult to compete with Netflix is that it will struggle to invest as aggressively into its content. Yes, Disney has a very strong library of high-quality shows, but that will only keep households engaged for a limited period of time.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, given that Disney's balance sheet is already stretched (as discussed above), and that Disney is evidently far behind when it comes to Netflix's pricing power, Disney finds itself in a challenging position.</p>\n<p>Also, whereas Disney+ decreased its pricing, down 29% y/y, as it added a large number of subscribers in India, Netflix in the same period increased its&nbsp;pricing globally&nbsp;(including LATAM, if we take it at F/X neutral).</p>\n<p><b>Valuation - Reasons to be Bullish on This Stock</b></p>\n<p>Considering all the nuanced interpretations of Disney's near-term potential, I find that the stock remains cheaply valued.</p>\n<p>Yes, Disney still has a lot of work to accomplish over the coming twelve months, but as its Parks and Resorts start to return to fuller capacity, this will drive its bottom-line profitability.</p>\n<p>If we use analysts' estimates for fiscal 2021 of $5.05 of EPS, this puts the stock trading for 34x forward earnings. In the present market, where many unprofitable stocks were considered a bargain at 30x forward sales, Disney remains very valued when all is considered.</p>\n<p>Moreover, compared with Netflix, that stock is priced at closer to 38x its 2022 earnings. Having said that, keep in mind the very challenging comparisons Netflix will have with 2020 over the coming two years. Even though I'm bullish on Netflix, this doesn't stop me from recognizing that Disney's valuation is even more enticing than Netflix's.</p>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line</b></p>\n<p>Even if Disney+ slightly missed subscriber targets, there's no need to throw out the bull investment thesis here, particularly as its parks and resorts are about to return to full capacity over the coming several months.</p>\n<p>Disney's stock has a substantial pent-up potential with Disney+ driving forward the narrative, while its parks and resorts are likely to bring in a substantial amount of cash flows that will help to chip away at its debt profile, as well as fund new impressive titles, that will drive Disney's&nbsp;flywheel.</p>","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; However, I declare that this is far from the full story.\nAs I go through the positives and negatives of Disney's thesis, I proclaim that its stock is still cheaply valued, even now.\nUltimately, Disney is priced at 34x next year's earnings, which is not expensive for what's at play here.\nWhat's the Bull Thesis Right Now?\nDisney's stock has been a solid performer during the past twelve months, driven by the consistently positive news flow that Disney+ could be perceived by many households as a necessary streaming package - either alongside Netflix (NFLX) or in some households instead of Netflix.\nFurthermore, investors had been willing to put aside the fact that Disney's Parks and Experiences have been operating as a shell of its former self during the past twelve months with the expectation that Disney+ would be the future driver of the stock's performance.\nIndeed, investors have been fed a consistent diet of Disney+'s progress to the point that anything less than a positive surprise there, together with its earnings results, should be viewed as less inspiring that they showed apathy towards the stock last week.\nAs a reminder, even though Disney+ had 104 million subscribers, a substantial number of its latest increase was driven by India's Disney Plus Hotstar, lending itself towards Disney+'s APRU being down 29% y/y to $3.99.\nHowever, I believe that there are more moving parts to this story.\nSource: author's calculations, press statements\nThe story is now about to unfold in an interesting way. There are two paths to this story that are worth bearing in mind.\nThe first path, as we can see above, is as Disney starts lapping its challenging 2020 period so that its performance into 2021 will start to look very strong.\nFurthermore, even though Disney's Parks are operating with limited capacity a present, investors understand that the end of restrictions in the US and China is nearing. This will be a very positive driver of the story for new shareholders to the stock.\nConsider that, if we look back two years ago to Q2 2019, Disney's Parks, Experiences, and Products segment was reporting 25% operating margins. Moreover, this segment alone was responsible for 40% of Disney's operating income.\nIn other words, approximately 40% of Disney's bottom line has been hugely impacted over the past twelve months, but as investors start to reprice this stock over the next two to three years, investors will be casting their eyes towards Disney's Parks, Experiences, and Products segment has a substantial driver of cash flows.\nThis segment is very important because it will be the foundation that will allow Disney to reinvest back into its Disney+ segment and to chip away at its meaningfully overleveraged balance sheet. Remember, Disney still carries a net debt position of $40 billion as of Q2 2021.\nNow, let's discuss the second path to the story.\nFunding Disney+ Will be Challenging\nHouseholds have a love-hate affection towards Netflix. On the one hand, its library is huge. On the other hand, after years of multi-billion dollar investment, many of its titles are mediocre at best. Yet, when it boils down to it, households still tune in and remain highly engaged with Netflix.\nBut where Disney will find it difficult to compete with Netflix is that it will struggle to invest as aggressively into its content. Yes, Disney has a very strong library of high-quality shows, but that will only keep households engaged for a limited period of time.\nFurthermore, given that Disney's balance sheet is already stretched (as discussed above), and that Disney is evidently far behind when it comes to Netflix's pricing power, Disney finds itself in a challenging position.\nAlso, whereas Disney+ decreased its pricing, down 29% y/y, as it added a large number of subscribers in India, Netflix in the same period increased its pricing globally (including LATAM, if we take it at F/X neutral).\nValuation - Reasons to be Bullish on This Stock\nConsidering all the nuanced interpretations of Disney's near-term potential, I find that the stock remains cheaply valued.\nYes, Disney still has a lot of work to accomplish over the coming twelve months, but as its Parks and Resorts start to return to fuller capacity, this will drive its bottom-line profitability.\nIf we use analysts' estimates for fiscal 2021 of $5.05 of EPS, this puts the stock trading for 34x forward earnings. In the present market, where many unprofitable stocks were considered a bargain at 30x forward sales, Disney remains very valued when all is considered.\nMoreover, compared with Netflix, that stock is priced at closer to 38x its 2022 earnings. Having said that, keep in mind the very challenging comparisons Netflix will have with 2020 over the coming two years. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.</p>\n<p>The handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain <b>AMC Entertainment</b> (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.</p>\n<h2>Wall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme</h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"</p>\n<p>The bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.</p>\n<p>Prior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Nowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.</li>\n <li>Losing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.</li>\n <li>Contending with billions of dollars in additional debt.</li>\n <li>Carrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.</li>\n <li>Clearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., <b>Walt Disney</b>'s Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for <i>Black Widow</i>).</li>\n</ul>\n<p>To boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Shares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.</li>\n <li>Buying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>It may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.</p>\n<h2>This trio of stocks can go to the moon</h2>\n<p>The good news is that there <i>are</i> companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.</p>\n<h2>Sea Limited</h2>\n<p>Don't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based <b>Sea Limited</b> (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.</p>\n<p>For the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.</p>\n<p>Over the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.</p>\n<p>Thirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.</p>\n<h2>Skillz</h2>\n<p>Another high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company <b>Skillz</b> (NYSE:SKLZ).</p>\n<p>Admittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.</p>\n<p>When the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.</p>\n<p>Skillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL). Football is the most popular sport by a long shot in the U.S. The expectation is that we'll see NFL-themed games and competitions hitting the platform by no later than 2022.</p>\n<p>Though Skillz is likely to lose money through 2022 as it beefs up marketing, its insane growth potential and potentially lucrative margins can't be overlooked.</p>\n<h2>Trulieve Cannabis</h2>\n<p>A final stock that can go to the moon is U.S. marijuana stock <b>Trulieve Cannabis</b> (OTC:TCNNF). According to <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NFC.U\">New Frontier</a> Data, the U.S. pot industry could be generating north of $41 billion in annual sales by 2025.</p>\n<p>Whereas most U.S. multistate operators are angling to have a presence in as many legalized markets as possible, Trulieve has taken on a strategy that looked odd at first, but has paid off incredibly well. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.\nThe handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.\nWall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme\nUnfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"\nThe bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.\nPrior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:\n\nNowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.\nLosing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.\nContending with billions of dollars in additional debt.\nCarrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.\nClearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., Walt Disney's Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for Black Widow).\n\nTo boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:\n\nShares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.\nBuying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.\n\nIt may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.\nThis trio of stocks can go to the moon\nThe good news is that there are companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.\nSea Limited\nDon't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.\nFor the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.\nOver the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.\nThirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.\nSkillz\nAnother high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ).\nAdmittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.\nWhen the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.\nSkillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL).
