Buffett addressed investors around the world on Saturday at Berkshire Hathaway's 2021 Annual Shareholder Meeting.

<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/RN?name=RNLive&rndata={"liveId":"16196040827650"}\" target=\"_blank\">Playback Live Here!

In an hours-long event, the investing legend fielded questions on Berkshire's business and investment decisions, offered advice for first-time investorsand touted the strength of American corporations in a characteristically optimistic tone.Buffett nodded to the Federal Reserveand Congress for their swift response to the COVID-19 crisis, and underscored the rebound in the U.S. economy. And the Oracle of Omaha also addressed the recent rise in retail trading andonline brokerage firmslike Robinhood, the rally in bitcoinand the boom in SPAC mergers.

In many ways, this year's meeting looked different from those in the past. The annual event took placein a hotel conference room in Los Angelesrather than in an arena in Omaha, Nebraska, due to the ongoing pandemic.

Buffett's long-time business partner Charlie Munger also returned onstage this year to co-lead the event, after sitting out last year because of the pandemic. And in a new move, Buffett and Munger were joined by Berkshire's Vice Chairmen Gregory Abel and Ajit Jain,in a signal of potential succession plans at the company.

Here were some of the highlights from the event.

—

Buffett said Berkshire Hathaway is seeing signs of rising price pressures during the COVID-19 recovery, corroborating many market participants' concerns about increasing inflationary pressures.

\"We're seeing substantial inflation. We're raising prices, people are raising prices to us. And it's being accepted,\" Buffett said. \"We really do a lot of housing. The costs are just up, up, up. Steel costs. You know, just every day they're going up.\"

\"It's an economy – really, it's red hot. And we weren't expecting it,\" he added.

—

Buffett said trading apps like Robinhoodhave contributed to the \"casino aspect\" of the stock market as of late, exploiting individuals' inclinations to gamble.

“It’s become a very significant part of the casino aspect, the casino group, that has joined into the stock market in the last year, year and a half,\" Buffett said of Robinhood. \"There’s nothing, you know, there’s nothing illegal about it, there’s nothing immoral. But I don’t think you’d build a society around people doing it.\"

\"I think the degree to which a very rich society can reward people who know how to take advantage, essentially, of the gambling instincts of the American public, the worldwide public – it’s not the most admirable part of the accomplishment,\" Buffett added. \"But I think what America has accomplished is pretty admirable overall. And I think actually American corporations have turned out to be a wonderful place for people to put their money and save. But they also make terrific gambling chips, and if you cater to those gambling chips when people have money in their pocket for the first time and you tell them take my 30 or 40 or 50 trades a day and you’re not charging commission ... I hope we don’t have more of it.”

—

Buffett explained that Berkshire's move to unload many of its bank shares last year was not due to a lack of confidence in the banking industry, but more a decision to re-balance the portfolio and avoid being too heavily tilted toward one area.

\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion compared to the possible risk,\" Buffett said. \"We were over 10% of Bank of America. It's a real pain in the neck, more to the banks than us.\"

Berkshire held 1,032,952,006 shares of Bank of America as of the end of 2020, after adding 85.1 million shares in the third quarter alone. This gave Berkshire Hathaway an ownership stake of 11.9%. Berkshire cut its holdings of Wells Fargo from 345.7 million shares at year-end 2019 to 52.4 million by year-end 2020, and completely exited its holdings in JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and M&T Bank Corp (MTB).

\"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago,\" he added. \"The banking business around the world in various places might worry me, but our banks are in far, far better shape than 10 or 15 years ago.\"

—

A shareholder asked Jain, who leads Berkshire's insurance business, whether he would be hypothetically willing to write an insurance policy for SpaceX founder Elon Musk for his proposed colonization of Mars.

\"This is an easy one. No thank you, I’ll pass,\" Jain said.

“Well I would say it would depend on the premium,” Buffett interjected with a laugh. \"And I would say that I would probably have a somewhat different rate if Elon was on board or not on board. It makes a difference if someone is asking to insure something.”

—

Warren Buffett declined to directly offer an opinion in response to a question on bitcoin, an assethe previously likened to \"rat poison squared.\"

\"I knew there’d be a question on bitcoin or crypto and I thought to myself well, I watch these politicians dodge questions all the time … The truth is, I’m going to dodge that question,\" Buffett said. \"Because the truth is, we’ve probably got hundreds of thousands of people that are watching this that own bitcoin. And we’ve probably got two people that are short. So we’ve got a choice of making 400,000 people mad at us and unhappy, and making two people happy. And it’s just a dumb equation.\"

Munger, however, issued a more direct attack.

\"Those who know me well are just waving the red flag at the bull. Of course I hate the bitcoin success,\" he said. \"And I don’t welcome a currency that’s so useful kidnappers and extortionists and so forth. Nor do I like shoveling out a few extra billions and billions and billions of dollars to somebody who just invented a new financial product out of thin air. So I think I should say modestly that the whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interest of civilization.\"

—

Both Buffett and Munger issued strong words of support for share repurchases, especially after Berkshire reported repurchasing an additional $6.6 billion in stock in the first three months of 2021.

\"They're a way, essentially, of distributing the cash to the people that want the cash when other co-owners mostly want you to reinvest,\" Buffett said. \"It's a savings vehicle.\"

\"I find it almost impossible to believe some of the arguments that are made that it's terrible to repurchase shares from a partner if they want to get out of something, and you're able to do it at prices that are advantages to the people that are staying,\" Buffett said. \"And it helps slightly the person that wants out.\"

Munger offered a similar view.

\"You're repurchasing stock. Just a bullet higher, it's deeply immoral,\" Munger said. \"But if you're repurchasing stock because it's a fair thing to do in the interest of your existing shareholders, it's a highly moral act and the people who are criticizing it are bonkers.\"

—

Low interest rates have catalyzed a surge in valuations across equities, giving those who invest in the markets an opportunity to create wealth, Munger said during the Berkshire Hathaway question and answer segment.

\"I think one consequence of this present situation is, Bernie Sanders has basically won,\" Munger says. \"Because with everything boomed out so high and interest rates so low, what's going to happen is, the millennial generation is going to have a hell of a time getting rich compared to our generation ... He did it by accident, but he won.\"

\"And so the difference between the difference between the rich and the poor in the generation that's rising is going to be a lot less,\" he added. \"So Bernie has won.\"

—

Buffett received a question around special purpose acquisition companies, or blank-check companies, which have become a hugely popular means for firms to go public over the past year.

\"The SPACs generally have to spend their money in two years, as I understand it. If you have to buy a business in two years, you put a gun to my head and said you've got to buy a business in two years, I'd buy one but it wouldn't be much of one,\" Buffett.

\"If you're running money from somebody else and you get a fee and you get the upside and you don't have the downside, you're going to buy something,\" he added. \"And frankly we're not competitive with that.\"

\"It's an exaggerated version of what we've seen in kind of a gambling-type market,\" he added.

—

Buffett conceded that selling some of Apple's stock in 2020 was \"probably a mistake,\" with shares rising even further this year following the tech-led 2020 in the markets.

\"The brand and the product — it's an incredible product,\" Buffett said of Apple. \"It is indispensable to people.\"

\"I sold some stock last year, although our shareholders still saw their shares go up because we repurchased shares,\" he added. \"But that was probably a mistake.\"

Berkshire owned 907,559,761 shares of Appleas of the end of December for a total market value of $120.4 billion. By contrast, the firm spent just $31 billion accumulating this stake since late 2016.

—

A shareholder directed a question to Ajit Jain and Greg Abel asking about the relationship the two likely next leaders of Berkshire Hathaway have with one another, given how iconic the relationship between Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger has been over the course of the company's history.

\"There's no question the relationship Warren has with Charlie is unique,\" Jain said. \"It's not going to be duplicated, certainly not by me and Greg. I can't think of anybody that can duplicate it.\"

\"I certainly have a lot of respect, both at a professional level and personal level, in terms of what Greg's abilities are,\" Jain added. \"We do not interact with each other as often as Warren and Charlie do. But every quarter we will talk to each other about our respective decision.\"

\"Even though the interaction may be different than say how Warren and Charlie do it ... we make sure we're always following up with each other but it goes beyond that,\" Abel said. \"Ajit has a great understanding of the Berkshire culture. I strongly believe I do too.\"

—

One shareholder asked Buffett about Berkshire's decision to invest in the oil and gas industry, and queried whether we might have \"build our own unrealistic consensus on the pace of change\" to clean energy solutions. Buffett defended the company's investment in the industry and in Chevron specifically, whichwas a relatively recent investment for the firm.

\"I would say that people are on the extremes of both sides are a little nuts. I would hate to have all the hydrocarbons banned in three years,\" Buffett said. \"You wouldn't want a world — it wouldn't work. And on the other hand, what's happening will be adapted to over time just as we've adapted to all kinds of things.\"

\"We have no problem owning Costco or Walmart and a substantial number of their stores. And they sell cigarettes, it's a big item,\" he added as an analogy. \"It's a very tough situation ... It's a very tough time to decide what companies benefit societies more than others.\"

\"I don't like making the moral judgments on stocks in terms of actually running the businesses, but there's something about every business that you knew that you wouldn't like,\" he added. \"If you expect perfection in your spouse or in your friends or in companies you're not going to find it.\"

\"Chevron is not an evil company in the least, and I have no compunction about owning it in the least, about owning Chevron,\" Buffett concluded. \"And if we owned the entire business I would not feel uncomfortable about being in that business.\"

Answering a subsequent question about the Berkshire board of directors' recommendation to voteagainst reporting climate-related risks, Munger added, \"I don't know we know the answer to all these questions about global warming.\"

\"The people who ask the questions think they know the answer. We're just more modest.\"

—

Most investors would benefit from simply purchasing an S&P 500 index fund over the long run rather than picking individual stocks, even including Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett said during the question-and-answer session Saturday.

\"I recommend the S&P 500 index fund … I’ve never recommended Berkshire to anybody because I don’t want people to buy it because they think I’m tipping them into something,\" he said. \"On my death there's a fund for my then-widow and 90% will go into an S&P 500 index fund.\"

\"I do not think the average person can pick stocks,\" he added. \"We happen to have a large group of people that didn't pick stocks but they picked Charlie and me to manage money for them 50, 60 years ago. So we have a very unusual group of shareholders I think who look at Berkshire as a lifetime savings vehicle and one that they don’t have to think about and one that they'll, you know, they don't look at it again for 10 to 20 years.\"

Charlie Munger, on the other hand, had a different perspective.

\"I personally prefer holding Berkshire to holding the market,\" he said in response to the same question. \"I’m quite comfortable holding Berkshire. I think our businesses are better than the average in the market.\"

—

Buffett reiterated a staunchly supportive stance of U.S. corporations and capitalism in his opening remarks, highlighting that five of the six largest companies in the world by market capitalization currently comprise domestic companies. Those five companies are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook, with only Saudi Aramco of Saudi Arabia coming in as a non-U.S. mega-cap company in the top six.

But only a couple hundred years ago, the U.S. looked like the underdog.

\"In 1790 we had one-half of 1% of the world's population,\" Buffett said. \"600,000 of them were slaves. Ireland had more people than the United States had. Russia had five times as many people. Ukraine had twice as many people.\"

\"But here we were. What did we have? We had a map for the future, an aspirational map that somehow now only 232 years later, leaves us with five of the top six companies in the world,\" he said. \"It's not an accident. And it's not because we were way smarter, way stronger or anything of the sort. We had good soil, decent climate, but so did some of the other countries I named. This system has worked very well.\"

—

In opening remarks at the start of Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting, Buffett credited the U.S. economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis toswift action by the Federal Reserve and Congress.

\"The economy went off a cliff in March. It was resurrected in an extraordinarily effective way by Federal Reserve action and later on the fiscal front by Congress,\" Buffett said in opening remarks at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting.\"

He added that Berkshire Hathaway's own business has picked up tremendously alongside the broader economy, and suggested businesses like airlines were still among those most deeply affected by lingering effects from the pandemic.

\"Our businesses have done really quite well. This has been a very, very, very unusual recession in that it's been localized ... to an extraordinary extent. Right now business is really very good in a great many segments of the economy,\" he added. \"But there's still problems if you're in a few types of businesses that have been decimated such as international air travel or something of the sort.\"

—

The CEO of See's Candies, one of the longstanding companies owned by Berkshire Hathaway, told Yahoo Finance that the companyhas seen a strong rebound at the start of 2021. However, last year, business virtually ground to a halt.

\"This has been the longest decade of my life. We've been through a lot. Last year – it's a tale of a couple of different quarters. The first quarter was tremendous,\" See's Candies CEO Pat Egan said in an interview with Yahoo Finance's Julia La Roche ahead of the start of Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting. \"In the middle of March, when this [pandemic] really hit, we shut down all of our stores in a span of five days. So about 245 stores we closed in a matter of days. And then about a week and a half later, we closed our e-commerce fulfillment center down in Southern California. So for a period of time there, we essentially completely stopped.\"

\"We just said, we're not going to reopen stores or reopen plants until we can create a safe operating environment for our employees,\" he added. \"That took a while, and by the time we restored over the summer we saw customers coming back in. But for that period of time, it was pretty rough.\"

See's Candies just completed its \"best first quarter ever\" at the start of 2021, Egan added.

—

Berkshire Hathawayreported first-quarter results Saturday morning, underscoring arebound in profits across the firm's businesses amid the COVID-19 recovery. Berkshire also reported that it conducted another $6.6 billion of stock buybacks, extending its ramped-up share repurchase program from 2020.

Operating income during the first three months of the year increased to $7.02 billion, rising 19.5% compared to the $5.87 billion posted in the first quarter of 2020. Net earnings attributable to Berkshire shareholders swung back to a profit of $11.71 billion, compared to a loss of $49.75 billion in the same quarter last year.

Consolidated shareholders' equity rose by $4.8 billion to $448 billion by the end of March compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.

<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/RN?name=RNLive&rndata={"liveId":"16196040827650"}\" target=\"_blank\">If you want to watch the full live video, please click here.
","source":"yahoofinance_sg","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And the Oracle of Omaha also addressed the recent rise in retail trading andonline brokerage firmslike Robinhood, the rally in bitcoinand the boom in SPAC mergers. In many ways, this year's meeting looked different from those in the past. The annual event took placein a hotel conference room in Los Angelesrather than in an arena in Omaha, Nebraska, due to the ongoing pandemic.Buffett's long-time business partner Charlie Munger also returned onstage this year to co-lead the event, after sitting out last year because of the pandemic. And in a new move, Buffett and Munger were joined by Berkshire's Vice Chairmen Gregory Abel and Ajit Jain,in a signal of potential succession plans at the company. Here were some of the highlights from the event.—Buffett said Berkshire Hathaway is seeing signs of rising price pressures during the COVID-19 recovery, corroborating many market participants' concerns about increasing inflationary pressures.\"We're seeing substantial inflation. We're raising prices, people are raising prices to us. And it's being accepted,\" Buffett said. \"We really do a lot of housing. The costs are just up, up, up. Steel costs. You know, just every day they're going up.\"\"It's an economy – really, it's red hot. And we weren't expecting it,\" he added.—Buffett said trading apps like Robinhoodhave contributed to the \"casino aspect\" of the stock market as of late, exploiting individuals' inclinations to gamble.“It’s become a very significant part of the casino aspect, the casino group, that has joined into the stock market in the last year, year and a half,\" Buffett said of Robinhood. \"There’s nothing, you know, there’s nothing illegal about it, there’s nothing immoral. But I don’t think you’d build a society around people doing it.\"\"I think the degree to which a very rich society can reward people who know how to take advantage, essentially, of the gambling instincts of the American public, the worldwide public – it’s not the most admirable part of the accomplishment,\" Buffett added. I hope we don’t have more of it.”—Buffett explained that Berkshire's move to unload many of its bank shares last year was not due to a lack of confidence in the banking industry, but more a decision to re-balance the portfolio and avoid being too heavily tilted toward one area.\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion compared to the possible risk,\" Buffett said. \"We were over 10% of Bank of America. It's a real pain in the neck, more to the banks than us.\"Berkshire held 1,032,952,006 shares of Bank of America as of the end of 2020, after adding 85.1 million shares in the third quarter alone. This gave Berkshire Hathaway an ownership stake of 11.9%. Berkshire cut its holdings of Wells Fargo from 345.7 million shares at year-end 2019 to 52.4 million by year-end 2020, and completely exited its holdings in JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and M&T Bank Corp (MTB).\"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago,\" he added. \"The banking business around the world in various places might worry me, but our banks are in far, far better shape than 10 or 15 years ago.\"—A shareholder asked Jain, who leads Berkshire's insurance business, whether he would be hypothetically willing to write an insurance policy for SpaceX founder Elon Musk for his proposed colonization of Mars.\"This is an easy one. No thank you, I’ll pass,\" Jain said.“Well I would say it would depend on the premium,” Buffett interjected with a laugh. \"And I would say that I would probably have a somewhat different rate if Elon was on board or not on board. It makes a difference if someone is asking to insure something.”—Warren Buffett declined to directly offer an opinion in response to a question on bitcoin, an assethe previously likened to \"rat poison squared.\"\"I knew there’d be a question on bitcoin or crypto and I thought to myself well, I watch these politicians dodge questions all the time … The truth is, I’m going to dodge that question,\" Buffett said. \"Because the truth is, we’ve probably got hundreds of thousands of people that are watching this that own bitcoin. And we’ve probably got two people that are short. So we’ve got a choice of making 400,000 people mad at us and unhappy, and making two people happy. And it’s just a dumb equation.\"Munger, however, issued a more direct attack.\"Those who know me well are just waving the red flag at the bull. So I think I should say modestly that the whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interest of civilization.\"—Both Buffett and Munger issued strong words of support for share repurchases, especially after Berkshire reported repurchasing an additional $6.6 billion in stock in the first three months of 2021.\"They're a way, essentially, of distributing the cash to the people that want the cash when other co-owners mostly want you to reinvest,\" Buffett said. \"It's a savings vehicle.\"\"I find it almost impossible to believe some of the arguments that are made that it's terrible to repurchase shares from a partner if they want to get out of something, and you're able to do it at prices that are advantages to the people that are staying,\" Buffett said. \"And it helps slightly the person that wants out.\"Munger offered a similar view.\"You're repurchasing stock. Just a bullet higher, it's deeply immoral,\" Munger said. \"But if you're repurchasing stock because it's a fair thing to do in the interest of your existing shareholders, it's a highly moral act and the people who are criticizing it are bonkers.\"—Low interest rates have catalyzed a surge in valuations across equities, giving those who invest in the markets an opportunity to create wealth, Munger said during the Berkshire Hathaway question and answer segment.\"I think one consequence of this present situation is, Bernie Sanders has basically won,\" Munger says. \"Because with everything boomed out so high and interest rates so low, what's going to happen is, the millennial generation is going to have a hell of a time getting rich compared to our generation ... He did it by accident, but he won.\"\"And so the difference between the difference between the rich and the poor in the generation that's rising is going to be a lot less,\" he added. \"So Bernie has won.\"—Buffett received a question around special purpose acquisition companies, or blank-check companies, which have become a hugely popular means for firms to go public over the past year.\"The SPACs generally have to spend their money in two years, as I understand it. If you have to buy a business in two years, you put a gun to my head and said you've got to buy a business in two years, I'd buy one but it wouldn't be much of one,\" Buffett.\"If you're running money from somebody else and you get a fee and you get the upside and you don't have the downside, you're going to buy something,\" he added. \"And frankly we're not competitive with that.\"\"It's an exaggerated version of what we've seen in kind of a gambling-type market,\" he added.—Buffett conceded that selling some of Apple's stock in 2020 was \"probably a mistake,\" with shares rising even further this year following the tech-led 2020 in the markets.\"The brand and the product — it's an incredible product,\" Buffett said of Apple. \"It is indispensable to people.\"\"I sold some stock last year, although our shareholders still saw their shares go up because we repurchased shares,\" he added. \"But that was probably a mistake.\"Berkshire owned 907,559,761 shares of Appleas of the end of December for a total market value of $120.4 billion. By contrast, the firm spent just $31 billion accumulating this stake since late 2016.—A shareholder directed a question to Ajit Jain and Greg Abel asking about the relationship the two likely next leaders of Berkshire Hathaway have with one another, given how iconic the relationship between Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger has been over the course of the company's history.\"There's no question the relationship Warren has with Charlie is unique,\" Jain said. \"It's not going to be duplicated, certainly not by me and Greg. I can't think of anybody that can duplicate it.\"\"I certainly have a lot of respect, both at a professional level and personal level, in terms of what Greg's abilities are,\" Jain added. \"We do not interact with each other as often as Warren and Charlie do. But every quarter we will talk to each other about our respective decision.\"\"Even though the interaction may be different than say how Warren and Charlie do it ... we make sure we're always following up with each other but it goes beyond that,\" Abel said. \"Ajit has a great understanding of the Berkshire culture. I strongly believe I do too.\"—One shareholder asked Buffett about Berkshire's decision to invest in the oil and gas industry, and queried whether we might have \"build our own unrealistic consensus on the pace of change\" to clean energy solutions. Buffett defended the company's investment in the industry and in Chevron specifically, whichwas a relatively recent investment for the firm.\"I would say that people are on the extremes of both sides are a little nuts. I would hate to have all the hydrocarbons banned in three years,\" Buffett said. \"You wouldn't want a world — it wouldn't work. And on the other hand, what's happening will be adapted to over time just as we've adapted to all kinds of things.\"\"We have no problem owning Costco or Walmart and a substantial number of their stores. And they sell cigarettes, it's a big item,\" he added as an analogy. \"It's a very tough situation ... It's a very tough time to decide what companies benefit societies more than others.\"\"I don't like making the moral judgments on stocks in terms of actually running the businesses, but there's something about every business that you knew that you wouldn't like,\" he added. \"If you expect perfection in your spouse or in your friends or in companies you're not going to find it.\"\"Chevron is not an evil company in the least, and I have no compunction about owning it in the least, about owning Chevron,\" Buffett concluded. \"And if we owned the entire business I would not feel uncomfortable about being in that business.\"Answering a subsequent question about the Berkshire board of directors' recommendation to voteagainst reporting climate-related risks, Munger added, \"I don't know we know the answer to all these questions about global warming.\"\"The people who ask the questions think they know the answer. We're just more modest.\"—Most investors would benefit from simply purchasing an S&P 500 index fund over the long run rather than picking individual stocks, even including Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett said during the question-and-answer session Saturday.\"I recommend the S&P 500 index fund … I’ve never recommended Berkshire to anybody because I don’t want people to buy it because they think I’m tipping them into something,\" he said. \"On my death there's a fund for my then-widow and 90% will go into an S&P 500 index fund.\"\"I do not think the average person can pick stocks,\" he added. \"We happen to have a large group of people that didn't pick stocks but they picked Charlie and me to manage money for them 50, 60 years ago. So we have a very unusual group of shareholders I think who look at Berkshire as a lifetime savings vehicle and one that they don’t have to think about and one that they'll, you know, they don't look at it again for 10 to 20 years.\"Charlie Munger, on the other hand, had a different perspective.\"I personally prefer holding Berkshire to holding the market,\" he said in response to the same question. \"I’m quite comfortable holding Berkshire. I think our businesses are better than the average in the market.\"—Buffett reiterated a staunchly supportive stance of U.S. corporations and capitalism in his opening remarks, highlighting that five of the six largest companies in the world by market capitalization currently comprise domestic companies. Those five companies are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook, with only Saudi Aramco of Saudi Arabia coming in as a non-U.S. mega-cap company in the top six.But only a couple hundred years ago, the U.S. looked like the underdog.\"In 1790 we had one-half of 1% of the world's population,\" Buffett said. \"600,000 of them were slaves. Ireland had more people than the United States had. Russia had five times as many people. Ukraine had twice as many people.\"\"But here we were. This system has worked very well.\"—In opening remarks at the start of Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting, Buffett credited the U.S. economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis toswift action by the Federal Reserve and Congress.\"The economy went off a cliff in March. It was resurrected in an extraordinarily effective way by Federal Reserve action and later on the fiscal front by Congress,\" Buffett said in opening remarks at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting.\"He added that Berkshire Hathaway's own business has picked up tremendously alongside the broader economy, and suggested businesses like airlines were still among those most deeply affected by lingering effects from the pandemic.\"Our businesses have done really quite well. This has been a very, very, very unusual recession in that it's been localized ... to an extraordinary extent. Right now business is really very good in a great many segments of the economy,\" he added. \"But there's still problems if you're in a few types of businesses that have been decimated such as international air travel or something of the sort.\"—The CEO of See's Candies, one of the longstanding companies owned by Berkshire Hathaway, told Yahoo Finance that the companyhas seen a strong rebound at the start of 2021. However, last year, business virtually ground to a halt.\"This has been the longest decade of my life. So for a period of time there, we essentially completely stopped.\"\"We just said, we're not going to reopen stores or reopen plants until we can create a safe operating environment for our employees,\" he added. \"That took a while, and by the time we restored over the summer we saw customers coming back in. But for that period of time, it was pretty rough.\"See's Candies just completed its \"best first quarter ever\" at the start of 2021, Egan added.—Berkshire Hathawayreported first-quarter results Saturday morning, underscoring arebound in profits across the firm's businesses amid the COVID-19 recovery. Berkshire also reported that it conducted another $6.6 billion of stock buybacks, extending its ramped-up share repurchase program from 2020.Operating income during the first three months of the year increased to $7.02 billion, rising 19.5% compared to the $5.87 billion posted in the first quarter of 2020. Net earnings attributable to Berkshire shareholders swung back to a profit of $11.71 billion, compared to a loss of $49.75 billion in the same quarter last year.Consolidated shareholders' equity rose by $4.8 billion to $448 billion by the end of March compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.If you want to watch the full live video, please click here.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":198,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":120490350,"gmtCreate":1624330557270,"gmtModify":1703833692164,"author":{"id":"3575606306400947","authorId":"3575606306400947","name":"Denn205","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d2f59642eabe148cd6384a0ce937629","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment tq","listText":"Like and comment tq","text":"Like and comment tq","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/120490350","repostId":"1191349655","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":74,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3562791266647459","authorId":"3562791266647459","name":"atsc","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9ec47b1c36e59ba1ef8caac8ab619319","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1},"content":"Done and like back pls","text":"Done and like back pls","html":"Done and like back pls"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":119139632,"gmtCreate":1622525497826,"gmtModify":1704185637592,"author":{"id":"3575606306400947","authorId":"3575606306400947","name":"Denn205","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d2f59642eabe148cd6384a0ce937629","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment tq","listText":"Like and comment tq","text":"Like and comment tq","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/119139632","repostId":"1105273964","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1105273964","pubTimestamp":1622511256,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1105273964?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-01 09:34","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Here Are the 11 Best Performing IPOs of the Year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1105273964","media":"Barron's","summary":"The market for initial public offerings has recently delivered some great first-day gains for investors who were able to get shares before the companies went public. That left us with 11 names. Most retail investors have to wait until companies start publicly trading to buy stock.Barron’slooked at businesses that have gone public in the past 12 months to find some strong performers.

First, we searched for companies that listed via a traditional initial public offering: This meant we filtered out businesses that merged withspecial purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs. Then, we searched for companies that went public on either the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. We also focused on entities that had at least a $1 billion market capitalization. We narrowed our search to companies with the highesttotal returns from their stock offering prices..

That left us with 11 names. First up:CureVac(ticker: CVAC), which was the screen’s best-performing IPO and had a total return of 596.75%. CureVac specializes in the messenger RNA, or mRNA, technology that is the basis of several leading Covid-19 vaccine programs. The German biotech company went public inAugust at $16 a shareand soared 249% in its first day, with the stock closing at $55.90. In January, CureVacstruck a deal with Bayerto accelerate the development and supply of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate. The company’s mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine is now in clinical trials, and Phase2b/3 data is expected this summer. Since its IPO, the stock has nearly doubled, closingFriday at $111.48 .

Strong performances need not be dictated by success on the first day of trading. Four of the companies that made our list were busted deals—meaning that their shares fell below their IPO prices on the first day of trading.

Case in point:ZIM Integrated Shipping(ZIM). The asset-light shipping company went public in January with a $15 offering price, but closed that day at $11.50. Yet by May 19, ZIM’s stockhad gained 295%after itreported first-quarter earnings of $589.6 million, or $5.35 a share. The companyalso declared a special cash dividend of $2 a share. ZIM is the second-best-performing IPO in the past 12 months, based on a total return of 209.33%, according to FactSet. It closed on Friday at $46.40.

Another example isAcademy Sports & Outdoors(ASO): The companywent public in Octoberwith a $13 offering price, with the stock closing at $12.99 during its first day of public trading.Academy was profitable when it went public, a rarity in the IPO market. InMarch, the company reported that its net incomesoared 416%, to $91.5 million, or 97 cents a share, for its fourth fiscal quarter ended Jan. 30. Its shares have nearly tripled since the IPO, and were trading at $36.53 on Friday. Academy Sports ranks third with a total return from the offering price of 181%, FactSet said.

Strong GainersThese companies all went public in the last year and produced high total returns compared to their IPO prices.Rounding out this category areCorsair Gaming(CRSR), a California companythat makes performance gear for gamers, and the Dubai-basedYalla Group(YALA), whichmakes a voice-chat app usedin the Middle East and North Africa called Yalla. Both stocks have rebounded strongly after less-than-stellar September IPOs.

Some companies that made our list soared during their debuts, but have since seen their shares retreat. Still, these companies are producing gains.

ConsiderBigCommerce(BIGC), which provides a cloud e-commerce platform that is used by such customers as SkullCandy, Savannah Bee Co, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.BigCommerce went public in Augustwith a $24 offering price—and the stock soared 201% that day, closing at $72.27. Since the IPO, the shares have fallen nearly 25%, amid a broader technology selloff.

The company, however, has reported some positive developments, like a deal in February that wouldgive BigCommerce customersthe ability to sell directly on Walmart Marketplace. It also reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results. BigCommerce has produced a total return of nearly 127%, according to FactSet.

Other companies have seen their shares jump since going public.Dream Finders Homes (DFH), which designs, builds, and sells homes in high-growth markets, was already profitable when it made its trading debut in January at $13 a share. Most retail investors have to wait until companies start publicly trading to buy stock.Barron’slooked at businesses that have gone public in the past 12 months to find some strong performers.First, we searched for companies that listed via a traditional initial public offering: This meant we filtered out businesses that merged withspecial purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs. Then, we searched for companies that went public on either the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. We also focused on entities that had at least a $1 billion market capitalization. We narrowed our search to companies with the highesttotal returns from their stock offering prices..That left us with 11 names. Since its IPO, the stock has nearly doubled, closingFriday at $111.48 .Strong performances need not be dictated by success on the first day of trading. Four of the companies that made our list were busted deals—meaning that their shares fell below their IPO prices on the first day of trading.Case in point:ZIM Integrated Shipping(ZIM). It closed on Friday at $46.40.Another example isAcademy Sports & Outdoors(ASO): The companywent public in Octoberwith a $13 offering price, with the stock closing at $12.99 during its first day of public trading.Academy was profitable when it went public, a rarity in the IPO market. InMarch, the company reported that its net incomesoared 416%, to $91.5 million, or 97 cents a share, for its fourth fiscal quarter ended Jan. 30. Its shares have nearly tripled since the IPO, and were trading at $36.53 on Friday. Academy Sports ranks third with a total return from the offering price of 181%, FactSet said.Strong GainersThese companies all went public in the last year and produced high total returns compared to their IPO prices.Rounding out this category areCorsair Gaming(CRSR), a California companythat makes performance gear for gamers, and the Dubai-basedYalla Group(YALA), whichmakes a voice-chat app usedin the Middle East and North Africa called Yalla. Both stocks have rebounded strongly after less-than-stellar September IPOs.Some companies that made our list soared during their debuts, but have since seen their shares retreat. Still, these companies are producing gains.ConsiderBigCommerce(BIGC), which provides a cloud e-commerce platform that is used by such customers as SkullCandy, Savannah Bee Co, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.BigCommerce went public in Augustwith a $24 offering price—and the stock soared 201% that day, closing at $72.27. BigCommerce has produced a total return of nearly 127%, according to FactSet.Other companies have seen their shares jump since going public.Dream Finders Homes (DFH), which designs, builds, and sells homes in high-growth markets, was already profitable when it made its trading debut in January at $13 a share. Shares soared 61%, $20.95 on its first day.Prices for houses in Marchgrew at the fastest rate since 2005, which has helped real estate stocks. We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel. Cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future, but this cannot come at great cost to the environment. Tesla will not be selling any Bitcoin and we intend to use it for transactions as soon as mining transitions to more sustainable energy. We are also looking at other cryptocurrencies that use <1% of Bitcoin's energy/transaction.\"\nMainstream investors and some corporate buyers including Tesla,Square,Metromileand Nexon haveflocked to bitcoin, viewing the digital currency as a potential inflation hedge while central banks print money to relieve coronavirus-distressed economies.\nMajor Wall Street banks like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have also sought to provide their wealthy clients with bitcoin exposure.\nBut some investors, like Softbank founder Masayoshi Son, still aren't buying in to the crypto craze.\n\"There's a lot of discussion over if it's a good thing or a bad thing, what's the true value or is it in a bubble. Honestly speaking, I don't know,\" Son said at a recentearnings conference.\nWhile Tesla said it would not accept bitcoin for vehicle purchases on Wednesday, Musk specified that Tesla plans to hold rather than sell the bitcoin it already has, and would be looking into other cryptocurrencies that require less energy for transactions.\nDuring the first quarter of 2021, Tesla bought $1.5 billion worth of \"digital assets,\" then sold $272 million worth. According to a financial filing from Tesla on April 26,profits from bitcoin salesspecifically allowed the company to notch a $101 million \"positive impact\" toward profitability.\nMusk has been a very public fan of bitcoin and dogecoin, tweeting and joking about these with his millions of Twitter followers over the past year.\nThis past weekend, the Tesla chief made his hosting debut on \"Saturday Night Live\" and devoted part of his opening monologue and one sketch to talking up dogecoin. Instead of helping drive up the price of the meme-inspired token, dogecoinactually tanked 30%over the course of the hour that Musk was hosting SNL.\nDuring a frenzied sell-off at that time, the popular trading platform Robinhood experienced an outage in its crypto trading.\nFollowing Musk's announcement on Thursday, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that the team will continue to accept bitcoin and other crpytocurrencies because \"we know that replacing Gold as a store of value will help the environment.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":13,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":146962031,"gmtCreate":1626050043123,"gmtModify":1703752272414,"author":{"id":"3575606306400947","authorId":"3575606306400947","name":"Denn205","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d2f59642eabe148cd6384a0ce937629","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment ","listText":"Like and comment ","text":"Like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/146962031","repostId":"1114863871","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":11,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":115906746,"gmtCreate":1622944844085,"gmtModify":1704193496799,"author":{"id":"3575606306400947","authorId":"3575606306400947","name":"Denn205","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d2f59642eabe148cd6384a0ce937629","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment tq","listText":"Like and comment tq","text":"Like and comment tq","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/115906746","repostId":"2141283409","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2141283409","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1622944143,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2141283409?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-06 09:49","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Square to invest $5 mln in Blockstream's solar-powered bitcoin mining facility","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2141283409","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 5 (Reuters) - Blockchain technology company Blockstream Mining said on Saturday that Square Inc","content":"
June 5 (Reuters) - Blockchain technology company Blockstream Mining said on Saturday that Square Inc will invest $5 million to build an open-source, solar-powered bitcoin mining facility at one of Blockstream's U.S. sites.

Blockstream, in an announcement on its blog said the \"facility will be a proof-of-concept for a 100% renewable energy Bitcoin mine at scale.\"

Square, in a tweet said it was teaming up with Blockstream as part of its Bitcoin Clean Energy Initiative.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Unfortunately for investors, the transition has been in place for the better part of a decade. Those turnaround efforts include investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence and the divestiture of legacy businesses. While there are now signs of green shoots, it is yet to be seen as to whether the seeds sown have fallen on rocky ground.
\n
Although the company has a rapidly growing business in hybrid cloud offerings, and a potential growth engine in quantum computing, it faces intense competition in the former industry and uncertain prospects in the latter. Most of the firm’s other businesses are in the doldrums, so IBM’s growth prospects are opaque.
\n
What is certain is that as of today, IBM has a reasonable and diminishing debt load and strong free cash flow.
\n
Management is attempting to address growth concerns in part by focusing on the firm’s cloud offerings, while it spins off its managed infrastructure business. That company will be named Kyndryl. However, the debt which the new entity will shoulder, along with the portion of the current dividend that it will carry, has not been divulged.
\n
Recent Quarterly Results
\n
IBM reported Q2 results last Monday. With non-GAAP EPS of $2.33, the company beat estimates by $0.04.
\n
Revenue of $18.7 billion was flat when adjusted for currency and divestitures.
\n
The negative side of the report had Systems revenue declining by 7%. However, this was largely due to the normal IBM Z mainframe cycle, down 13% year over year.
\n
The global financing division, which represents a low single digit percentage of overall revenues, was down 9%. Global technology services, which represents roughly a third of overall revenue and will largely be spun off as Kyndryl, had flattish growth.
\n
The positive side of the report had Cloud & Cognitive Software cloud revenue up 29% and Global Business Services cloud revenue up 35%. Total cloud revenue of $27 billion increased by 15% over the last 12 months, while cloud revenue grew 13% in the quarter to $7.0 billion.
\n
Net cash from operating activities hit $17.7 billion, and adjusted free cash flow totaled $11 billion over the last 12 months.
\n
Since year-end 2020, the company has reduced debt by $6.4 billion.
\n
Management guides for adjusted free cash flow of $11 billion to $12 billion in 2021.
\n
Where IBM Stands Tall
\n
IBM is viewed by many as at best a third rate IT company and at worst as a dinosaur, headed towards extinction.
\n
It is evident that the company’s revenues have declined for years; however, to accurately assess the stock, investors must understand that IBM’s legacy businesses have many strengths.
\n
For example, IBM is the world’s largest IT services company and the dominant provider of mainframes. Among the Fortune 50 companies, 47 are IBM clients.
\n
Half of the world’s wireless connections are handled by the firm.
\n
IBM's mainframe systems process nearly 90% of the globe’s credit card transactions, and 97% of the world's largest banks rely on IBM products and services. Consequently, twenty-nine billion ATM transactions are processed annually using IBM systems.
\n
Eight out of 10 global retailers rely on IBM products and services while 80% of the travel industry's reservations run through IBM systems. That results in 4 billion flight reservations being processed using the company’s IT services.
\n
Source: Forbes
\n
It is evident that IBM has a massive customer base that provides large scale recurring revenues. In many cases, moving to competitors' offerings would mean risking the transfer of sensitive information, a move many are not willing to take.
\n
However, with the transition to cloud services and open source software, there is an increased adoption by firms of mix and match IT infrastructures. In turn, this is eroding IBM’s competitive advantage associated with customer switching costs.
\n
The Sources Of Potential Growth
\n
Investors are generally aware of IBM's effort to drive growth through its hybrid cloud offerings. However, when questioned at JPMorgan’s recent investor conference, CFO Jim Kavanaugh provided insight into how hybrid cloud drives revenue in some of IBM’s other divisions.
\n
\n For every $1 (in business) we land on a hybrid cloud platform, we see $3 to $5 of software drag and $6 to $8 of services drag overall.\n
\n
Of course, Kavanaugh is using drag to refer to increased revenue in software and services associated with adoption of IBM’s hybrid cloud. If Kavanaugh’s claims are accurate, that means every dollar spent on the company’s hybrid cloud platform translates into $9 to $13 in additional revenue from the firm’s software and services offerings.
\n
Because hybrid cloud uses a mix of on-premises private cloud and public cloud services, it offers clients a degree of data privacy. This is of particular concern for customers in healthcare and financial services. Consequently, I would posit that IBM might have an advantage in competing with other hybrid cloud providers as it has extensive relationships within those industries.
\n
I reviewed a variety of prognostications regarding projected growth rates for the hybrid cloud market. The most recent study, which also falls in the middle of other predictions, is by Mordor Intelligence. That firm forecasts a CAGR of 18.73% from 2021 through 2026.
\n
Investors should be aware that the major operators in this space are Cisco (CSCO), Hewlett Packard (HPE), Amazon (AMZN), Citrix Systems (CTXS), and IBM.
\n
The following chart provides a record of the firm’s total cloud growth over the last six quarters.
\n
Source: Company reports / Chart by Author
\n
Aside from cloud, there is another source of potential growth, although it is unlikely to materialize soon.
\n
Early in 2019, IBM introduced the Q System One. IBM Q systems are the world's first quantum computer designed for scientific and commercial use.
\n
Pardon the pun, but quantum computers represent a quantum leap in technology. Prescient And Strategic Intelligence forecasts a CAGR of 56% for the industry through 2030 with the quantum computer market share reaching nearly $65 billion.
\n
For additional insights regarding quantum computing and IBM’s position within that industry, I point you to my article, “IBM: Why My Eye Is Fixed On Big Blue.”
\n
Understanding Kyndryl
\n
Once Kyndryl is launched, it will have more than 90,000 employees and more than 4,600 customers in 115 countries. With a $60 billion services backlog, the new entity will begin with projected revenues of $19 billion. At twice the size of its closest competitor, the company will be the world’s largest managed infrastructure services provider.
\n
The split will transform IBM from a company that pulls half of its revenue from services to a firm with its software and solutions businesses generating over half of its revenue on a recurring basis.
\n
Global Business Services, which currently constitutes 22% of the company’s revenue, will account for over 40% of sales. Unfortunately for investors, the transition has been in place for the better part of a decade. Those turnaround efforts include investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence and the divestiture of legacy businesses. While there are now signs of green shoots, it is yet to be seen as to whether the seeds sown have fallen on rocky ground.\nAlthough the company has a rapidly growing business in hybrid cloud offerings, and a potential growth engine in quantum computing, it faces intense competition in the former industry and uncertain prospects in the latter. Most of the firm’s other businesses are in the doldrums, so IBM’s growth prospects are opaque.\nWhat is certain is that as of today, IBM has a reasonable and diminishing debt load and strong free cash flow.\nManagement is attempting to address growth concerns in part by focusing on the firm’s cloud offerings, while it spins off its managed infrastructure business. That company will be named Kyndryl. However, the debt which the new entity will shoulder, along with the portion of the current dividend that it will carry, has not been divulged.\nRecent Quarterly Results\nIBM reported Q2 results last Monday. With non-GAAP EPS of $2.33, the company beat estimates by $0.04.\nRevenue of $18.7 billion was flat when adjusted for currency and divestitures.\nThe negative side of the report had Systems revenue declining by 7%. However, this was largely due to the normal IBM Z mainframe cycle, down 13% year over year.\nThe global financing division, which represents a low single digit percentage of overall revenues, was down 9%. Global technology services, which represents roughly a third of overall revenue and will largely be spun off as Kyndryl, had flattish growth.\nThe positive side of the report had Cloud & Cognitive Software cloud revenue up 29% and Global Business Services cloud revenue up 35%. Total cloud revenue of $27 billion increased by 15% over the last 12 months, while cloud revenue grew 13% in the quarter to $7.0 billion.\nNet cash from operating activities hit $17.7 billion, and adjusted free cash flow totaled $11 billion over the last 12 months.\nSince year-end 2020, the company has reduced debt by $6.4 billion.\nManagement guides for adjusted free cash flow of $11 billion to $12 billion in 2021.\nWhere IBM Stands Tall\nIBM is viewed by many as at best a third rate IT company and at worst as a dinosaur, headed towards extinction.\nIt is evident that the company’s revenues have declined for years; however, to accurately assess the stock, investors must understand that IBM’s legacy businesses have many strengths.\nFor example, IBM is the world’s largest IT services company and the dominant provider of mainframes. Among the Fortune 50 companies, 47 are IBM clients.\nHalf of the world’s wireless connections are handled by the firm.\nIBM's mainframe systems process nearly 90% of the globe’s credit card transactions, and 97% of the world's largest banks rely on IBM products and services. Consequently, twenty-nine billion ATM transactions are processed annually using IBM systems.\nEight out of 10 global retailers rely on IBM products and services while 80% of the travel industry's reservations run through IBM systems. That results in 4 billion flight reservations being processed using the company’s IT services.\nSource: Forbes\nIt is evident that IBM has a massive customer base that provides large scale recurring revenues. In many cases, moving to competitors' offerings would mean risking the transfer of sensitive information, a move many are not willing to take.\nHowever, with the transition to cloud services and open source software, there is an increased adoption by firms of mix and match IT infrastructures. In turn, this is eroding IBM’s competitive advantage associated with customer switching costs.\nThe Sources Of Potential Growth\nInvestors are generally aware of IBM's effort to drive growth through its hybrid cloud offerings. However, when questioned at JPMorgan’s recent investor conference, CFO Jim Kavanaugh provided insight into how hybrid cloud drives revenue in some of IBM’s other divisions.\n\n For every $1 (in business) we land on a hybrid cloud platform, we see $3 to $5 of software drag and $6 to $8 of services drag overall.\n\nOf course, Kavanaugh is using drag to refer to increased revenue in software and services associated with adoption of IBM’s hybrid cloud. If Kavanaugh’s claims are accurate, that means every dollar spent on the company’s hybrid cloud platform translates into $9 to $13 in additional revenue from the firm’s software and services offerings.\nBecause hybrid cloud uses a mix of on-premises private cloud and public cloud services, it offers clients a degree of data privacy. This is of particular concern for customers in healthcare and financial services. Consequently, I would posit that IBM might have an advantage in competing with other hybrid cloud providers as it has extensive relationships within those industries.\nI reviewed a variety of prognostications regarding projected growth rates for the hybrid cloud market. The most recent study, which also falls in the middle of other predictions, is by Mordor Intelligence. That firm forecasts a CAGR of 18.73% from 2021 through 2026.\nInvestors should be aware that the major operators in this space are Cisco (CSCO), Hewlett Packard (HPE), Amazon (AMZN), Citrix Systems (CTXS), and IBM.\nThe following chart provides a record of the firm’s total cloud growth over the last six quarters.\nSource: Company reports / Chart by Author\nAside from cloud, there is another source of potential growth, although it is unlikely to materialize soon.\nEarly in 2019, IBM introduced the Q System One. IBM Q systems are the world's first quantum computer designed for scientific and commercial use.\nPardon the pun, but quantum computers represent a quantum leap in technology. Prescient And Strategic Intelligence forecasts a CAGR of 56% for the industry through 2030 with the quantum computer market share reaching nearly $65 billion.\nFor additional insights regarding quantum computing and IBM’s position within that industry, I point you to my article, “IBM: Why My Eye Is Fixed On Big Blue.”\nUnderstanding Kyndryl\nOnce Kyndryl is launched, it will have more than 90,000 employees and more than 4,600 customers in 115 countries. With a $60 billion services backlog, the new entity will begin with projected revenues of $19 billion. At twice the size of its closest competitor, the company will be the world’s largest managed infrastructure services provider.\nThe split will transform IBM from a company that pulls half of its revenue from services to a firm with its software and solutions businesses generating over half of its revenue on a recurring basis.\nGlobal Business Services, which currently constitutes 22% of the company’s revenue, will account for over 40% of sales. Here it is important to note that the division grew revenue by 12% year over year in the last quarter.\nIBM will retain Red Hat and its solution provider business, the systems businesses, and its mission-critical public cloud service, and a software portfolio focused on big data, AI, and security.\nInitially, the two companies will each be the largest customer of the other.\nWhat remains to be known regarding the spinoff is how much debt each company will shoulder, and the share of the dividend that the companies will pay. Krishna stated the two companies will work together to sustain the current payout level.\nHas IBM Turned The Corner?\nAnyone who follows IBM knows the company has experienced an extended period of poor results. The following chart provides a record of the firm’s quarterly FCF over the last fourteen quarters.\nSource: Data from ycharts / chart by author\nWhile this is not proof positive that the company is back on track, the recent trend is at least encouraging.\nIn 2020, IBM generated $10.8 billion in free cash flow. Management guides for adjusted free cash flow of $11 billion to $12 billion in 2021. This excludes $3 billion in structural impacts related to the Kyndryl spinoff.\nThe CEO recently stated he expects IBM to generate $12 billion to $13 billion in FCF in 2022.\nDebt And Dividend\nWhile investors can rightfully complain of a variety of management moves over the years, the firm has maintained a reasonable debt profile while engaging in a number of acquisitions.\nThe company has reduced the debt by roughly $18 billion since its peak in mid-2019. IBM maintains an investment level credit rating, and the following chart provides a record of the company’s progress paying down debt of late.\nSource: IBM Presentation\nIBM has a yield of 4.64%, a payout ratio a bit below 61%, and a 5 year dividend growth rate of 4.26%. As previously noted, following the spinoff of Kyndryl, the two companies will team to provide a payout equivalent to the current dividend.\nIs IBM Stock Overvalued?\nIBM shares trade for $141.13. The average 12 month price target of 8 analysts is $153.50. The price target of the 3 analysts rating the stock since the last earnings report is $151.33.\nIBM has a P/E of 24.05x and a forward P/E of 17.67x. She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.
\n
“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”
\n
While investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.
\n
And even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.
\n
What's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.
\n
“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.
\n
The Buffett Indicator
\n
Larry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock
\n
One metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.
\n
But the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.
\n
And those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.
\n
How to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock
\n
Orman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.
\n
1. Buy low
\n
Part of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.
\n
“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”
\n
She points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.
\n
Because you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.
\n
2. Invest on a schedule
\n
katjen / Shutterstock
\n
While she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.
\n
She wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.
\n
In fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.
\n
“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”
\n
She suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.
\n
This kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.
\n
There are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.
\n
3. Diversify with fractional shares
\n
To help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.
\n
Orman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.
\n
With the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.
\n
“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”
\n
“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”
\n
What else you can do
\n
goodluz / Shutterstock
\n
Whether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.
\n
First, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.
\n
Then, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.
\n
That will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.
\n
If you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.
\n
While everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.
","source":"lsy1621813427262","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.\n“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”\nWhile investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.\nAnd even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.\nWhat's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.\n“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.\nThe Buffett Indicator\nLarry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock\nOne metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.\nBut the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.\nAnd those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.\nHow to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock\nOrman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.\n1. Buy low\nPart of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.\n“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”\nShe points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.\nBecause you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.\n2. Invest on a schedule\nkatjen / Shutterstock\nWhile she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.\nShe wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.\nIn fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.\n“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”\nShe suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.\nThis kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.\nThere are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.\n3. Diversify with fractional shares\nTo help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.\nOrman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.\nWith the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.\n“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”\n“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”\nWhat else you can do\ngoodluz / Shutterstock\nWhether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.\nFirst, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.\nThen, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.\nThat will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.\nIf you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.\nWhile everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":35,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162213805,"gmtCreate":1624064364107,"gmtModify":1703827897136,"author":{"id":"3575606306400947","authorId":"3575606306400947","name":"Denn205","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d2f59642eabe148cd6384a0ce937629","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment tq","listText":"Like and comment tq","text":"Like and comment tq","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/162213805","repostId":"1156696708","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1156696708","pubTimestamp":1624063306,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1156696708?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-19 08:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow falls more than 500 points to close out its worst week since October","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1156696708","media":"cnbc","summary":"Stocks fell on Friday, with theDow Jones Industrial Averageposting its worst weekly loss since Octob","content":"
\n
Stocks fell on Friday, with theDow Jones Industrial Averageposting its worst weekly loss since October, as traders worried the Federal Reserve could start raising rates sooner than expected.\nThe blue-...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; TheS&P 500slid 1.3% to 4,166.45. Both the Dow and S&P 500 hit their session lows in the final minutes of trading and closed around those levels. TheNasdaq Compositeclosed 0.9% lower at 14,030.38. Economic comeback plays led the market losses.\nFor the week, the 30-stock Dow lost 3.5%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down by 1.9% and 0.2%, respectively, week to date.\nSt. Louis Federal Reserve President Jim Bullardtold CNBC's \"Squawk Box\"on Friday it was natural for the Fed to tilt a little \"hawkish\" this week and that the first rate increase from the central bank would likely come in 2022. His comments came after the Fed on Wednesday added two rate hikes to its 2023 forecast and increased its inflation projection for the year, putting pressure on stock prices.\n\"The fear held by some investors is that if the Fed tightens policy sooner than expected to help cool inflationary pressures, this could weigh on future economic growth,\" Truist Advisory Services chief market strategist Keith Lerner said in a note. To be sure, he added it would be premature to give up on the so-called value trade right now.\nPockets of the market most sensitive to the economic rebound led the sell-off this week. The S&P 500 energy sector and industrials dropped 5.2% and 3.8%, respectively, for the week. Financials and materials meanwhile, lost more than 6% each. These groups had been market leaders this year on the back of the economic reopening.\nThe decline in stocks came as the Fed's actions caused a drastic flattening of the so-called Treasury yield curve. This means the yields of shorter-duration Treasurys — like the 2-year note — rose while longer-duration yields like the benchmark 10-year declined. The retreat in long-dated bond yields reflects less optimism toward economic growth, while the jump in short-end yields shows the expectations of the Fed raising rates.\nThis phenomenon hurt bank stocks particularly as their earnings could take a hit when the spread between short-term and long-term rates narrows. Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase shares on Friday lost more than 2% each. Citigroup fell by 1.8%, posting its 12th straight daily decline.\nFed Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday that officials have discussed tapering bond buying and would at some point begin slowing the asset purchases.\n\"This week's first whiff of an eventual change in Fed policy was a reminder that emergency monetary conditions and the free-money era will ultimately end,\" strategists at MRB Partners wrote in a note. \"We expect a series of incremental retreats from the Fed's benign inflation outlook in the coming months.\"\nCommodity prices were underpressure this weekas China attempted to cool rising prices and as the U.S. dollar strengthens. Copper, gold and platinum fell once again on Friday.\nFriday also coincided with the quarterly \"quadruple witching\" in which options and futures on indexes and equities expire. This event may have contributed to more volatile trading during the session.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":122,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
