forecast revenue growth as much as $1 billion above Wall Street estimates for the current quarter Wednesday, as the gaming and data-center chip company faces continued demand amid a chip shortage.
\n
For the fiscal second, or current, quarter, Nvidia $(NVDA)$ forecast revenue of $6.17 billion to $6.43 billion, while analysts surveyed by FactSet have forecast revenue of $5.47 billion on average.
\n
\"In our data-center business, right now our product lineup couldn't be better,\" said Colette Kress, Nvidia's chief financial officer, when prompted by analysts on a conference call to elaborate on the outlook. \"We have a strong overall portfolio, both for training and for inferencing, and we're seeing strong demand across our hyperscales and vertical industries.\"
\n
\"We've made a deliberate effort on the gaming perspective to supply to our gamers the cards that they would like given the strong demand that we see,\" Kress said. \"So that will also support the sequential growth that we're receiving.\"
\n
In the fiscal first quarter, gaming sales rallied 106% to a record $2.76 billion, surpassing the previous high mark of $2.5 billion, while analysts surveyed by FactSet had expected Nvidia gaming sales of $2.72 billion.
\n
\"We expect to remain supply-constrained into the second half of the year,\" Kress said.
\n
To address that short supply, Nvidia has worked to deter cryptocurrency miners from using its gaming chips for mining rigs. Early in the first quarter, the company launched a chip designed for cryptocurrency mining; sales of the so-called CMP chips came in at $155 million.
\n
More recently, Nvidia said it would tweak the performance of its new gaming cards to make them specifically less attractive to miners . While cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum are off about 40% from their recent records, they're still trading at eye-popping gains, compared with a year ago.
\n
On the whole, Nvidia reported first-quarter net income of $1.91 billion, or $3.03 a share, compared with $917 million, or $1.47 a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings, which exclude stock-based compensation expenses and other items, were $3.66 a share, compared with $1.80 a share in the year-ago period.
\n
Revenue soared to a record $5.66 billion, up 84% from $3.08 billion in the year-ago quarter. In April, Nvidia upped its forecast , even as global chip-supply shortages and high demand hampered sales across the industry.
\n
Analysts had estimated adjusted earnings of $3.29 a share on revenue of $5.4 billion. Shares dipped 0.9% in after-hours trading. That followed a 0.3% rise in the regular session to close at $628.
\n
On the data-center side, sales surged 79% to a record $2.05 billion from the year-ago period, while analysts expected sales of $2 billion.
\n
\"We're seeing strength across the board in data centers and we're seeing strengthening demand,\" said Chief Executive Jensen Huang on the conference call. \"From scientific computing, both physical and life sciences, data analytics and classical machine learning, cloud computing and cloud graphics -- which is becoming more important because of remote work -- and very importantly AI, both for training as well as a inferencing for classical machine-learning models.\"
\n
Also, Nvidia's Kress updated investors on the company's planned acquisition of microprocessor-design company Arm Ltd. for $40 billion from Softbank Group Corp. , that was announced back in September.
\n
\"On our Arm acquisition, we are making steady progress in working with the regulators across key regions,\" Kress said. \"We remain on track to close the transaction within our original timeframe of early 2022.\"
\n
Amid supply shortages, the chip industry has consistently turned in strong earnings this season, with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. topped Street expectations following a series of downgrades.
\n
Over the past 12 months, Nvidia shares have climbed 80%, while the PHLX Semiconductor Index has gained 73%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index has risen 40%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index has gained 47%. The company recently announced its first stock split in 14 years after massive gains . All but eliminating Wells Fargo
\n
Everyone knew it was coming, but Buffett all but made it official last quarter, nearly eliminating his position in his onetime favorite bank, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). Berkshire Hathaway sold 51.7 million shares, dropping its stake to a mere 675,000 shares valued at $26.3 million.
\n
This essentially ends what was an epic run for the Oracle of Omaha and Wells Fargo. Buffett first purchased shares in the large U.S. bank in 1989, and by 1994, he had acquired more than 13% of its outstanding shares. At the end of the third quarter of 2019, before the pandemic, Buffett's stake, which had a rough original cost basis of just below $9 billion, was worth close to $20 billion. And at one point back in 2017, it was reportedly worth as much as $29 billion.
\n
But as the fallout of Wells Fargo's phony accounts scandal and other revelations about its consumer abuses continued to play out, Buffett began to lose faith in the institution and started trimming his position. It looks like Buffett ultimately ended up making much less on his Wells Fargo investment than he could have, considering he sold more than 323 million shares between the end of Q1 2020 and the end of Q1 2021. During that 12-month period, the bank's shares traded from a low of $21.45 to a high of $39.07. At the end of 2019, they traded north of $53.
\n
The stock closed at $45.73 on Thursday, and many investors still believe Wells Fargo is undervalued these days, trading at 135% tangible book value (equity minus intangible assets and goodwill). Bank valuations have shot up in recent months, and Wells Fargo in particular could see more tailwinds when the Federal Reserve lifts the $1.95 trillion asset cap that the bank has been operating under since 2018.
\n
2. Dumping Synchrony Financial
\n
Last quarter, Berkshire Hathaway also eliminated its entire stake in the consumer finance credit card company Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), selling its 21.1 million shares. Synchrony uses what it calls a \"partner-centric\" business model under which it teams up with leading retailers and digital brands that promote Synchrony's credit cards. Consumers can get deals on specific purchases by opening Synchrony credit cards, which are often branded under a retailer's name.
\n
While I wouldn't say I saw this move coming, it doesn't entirely surprise me. Over the last year, Buffett has become even more selective about which banks he wants to own. He seems to be picking a winner or two in each banking industry subcategory -- for instance, he sold his stake in America's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, and loaded up on America's second-largest bank, Bank of America.
\n
Considering that Buffett already has a huge position in American Express, and loves the brand, that is likely going to be his pick for a credit-card-focused holding. Berkshire Hathaway likely made a good profit on that Synchrony investment, though, considering that the stock hit its highest level ever during Q1.
\n
3. Trimming U.S. Bancorp again
\n
Berkshire Hathaway also sold about 1.45 million shares of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) in the first quarter -- but it still owns nearly 129.7 million shares. The Oracle of Omaha has sold small quantities of shares of the Minnesota-based regional bank a few times over the last year, and it's a bit unclear why. It does appear that he has made U.S. Bancorp his regional bank pick, though. He sold off his other regional bank holdings, including his stakes in PNC Financial Services Group and M&T Bank, in the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
One possible explanation relates to Buffett's well-known desire to keep his stakes in those banks below 10%, so he can avoid the additional reporting requirements that a higher ownership level would trigger. At the end of the first quarter, Buffett owned about 8.7% of U.S. Bancorp's outstanding shares. So his stock sale may have simply been a move to prepare for the bank's planned share repurchases, which should accelerate later this year. Last quarter's adjustment should maintain Berkshire Hathaway's stake at a level comfortably under the 10% threshold, even after U.S. Bancorp's total share count is reduced.
\n
Overall, I still feel confident that Buffett plans to stick with U.S. Bancorp, although I will continue to watch his moves in upcoming quarters to see if he further reduces his stake in it.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-21 23:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"WFC":"富国银行","USB":"美国合众银行","BRK.A":"伯克希尔","BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","SYF":"Synchrony Financial"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/05/21/here-are-the-3-bank-moves-warren-buffett-has-made/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2137906121","content_text":"Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, Warren Buffett, made during the period. Has the recent correction made them more attractive?","content":"
The euphoria surrounding electric vehicles (EVs) has boiled over from vehicle manufacturers to EV charging stocks as well. Blink Charging (NASDAQ:BLNK) stock surged around 2,000% last year. Similarly, shares of Switchback Energy Acquisition Corporation, an energy sector-focused special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), surged 220% in 2020 after it announced a merger with ChargePoint (NYSE:CHPT) in September. The merger was completed in February.
\n
Another SPAC that's merging with an EV charging company is Climate Change Crisis Real Impact I Acquisition Corporation (NYSE:CLII). The stock jumped 65% on the day it announced merger with EVgo, expected to close in this quarter. Similarly, shares of TPG Pace Beneficial Finance (NYSE:TPGY) more than doubled on the day the SPAC announced its merger with EVBox, expected to close in June. Likewise, shares of SPAC Tortoise Acquisition II (NYSE:SNPR) rocketed more than 30% after it announced a merger with Volta. The merger is expected to complete in this quarter.
\n
So there's a lot of hype surrounding EV charging stocks, many of which are using the SPAC route to go public. But is the enthusiasm justified, or are these stocks overhyped? Let's find out.
\n
A fast-growing market
\n
Investor excitement for these stocks is certainly not baseless. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the number of electric vehicles on the road globally, including plug-in hybrid EVs, is expected to rise from less than 10 million in 2019 to 140 million by 2030. This number could rise to 245 million if governments worldwide cooperate and adopt policies advancing clean energy. To this end, automakers and battery manufacturers have committed investments of over $300 billion in bringing out new EV models and increasing production capacity.
\n
\n
Of course, more electric chargers would be needed to power the growing number of EVs. Global investment in EV charging infrastructure is expected to reach around $387 billion by 2040. The IEA estimates a six-fold increase in electricity demand from EVs by 2030. Notably, in 2019 as many as 6.5 million chargers, out of a total of 7.3 million EV chargers globally, were private. Yet public charging is expected to play a key role in the increased adoption of EVs. As much as one-third of the energy demand from EVs may go to public charging by 2030, according to some estimates.
\n
President Joe Biden's support, including plans of installing 500,000 public charging stations by 2030, has added to the enthusiasm for EV charging stocks.
\n
Can EV charging companies become profitable?
\n
Although the excitement is understandable, in some cases it might have been overblown. Before getting in, investors need to consider that none of the EV charging companies are profitable right now. That's because developing charging infrastructure is capital intensive. The companies' revenue should grow over the years as the number of EVs rises. Still, it will be several years before these companies become profitable, if at all. That's because it is difficult to generate big profits by selling electricity.
\n
Moreover, preference for home charging may mean limited demand, and margins, for public chargers. Charging networks of EV makers, such as Tesla's own network, may also further constrain the demand for common public chargers.
\n
For companies that have not yet merged with their respective SPACs, it might be too early to decide a possible winner. Climate Change Crisis Real Impact I Acquisition Corporation, TPG Pace Beneficial Finance, and Tortoise Acquisition II are more than 40% off their 2021 highs. Though the mergers are pending, the SPAC prices are moving based on expectations for their respective EV charging companies. Notably, with changed valuations, there is a risk that some of these deals may not complete. The hype surrounding these SPACs, thus, looks overblown.
\n
The best EV charging stock
\n
Among the publicly listed companies, ChargePoint looks better than Blink Charging. With $146 million in annual revenue, ChargePoint has a market capitalization of around $6 billion. That makes more sense than Blink Charging's $1.1 billion market capitalization with just $6.2 million in annual sales.
\n
CHPT Revenue (Annual) data by YCharts
\n
Blink Charging hasn't provided an expected EBITDA breakeven year, while ChargePoint expects to generate positive adjusted EBITDA by 2024.
\n
With more than 132,000 charging points in North America and Europe, ChargePoint already has a strong network and reach. The company's revenue for the full-year fiscal 2021 (ending on January 31) exceeded its guidance, which lends some credibility to its guidance of EBITDA breakeven by 2024. Prior to the impact of COVID-19, ChargePoint's revenue grew 60% in 2019. The company expects to grow revenue at that rate, on average, through 2026.
\n
Another key factor that differentiates ChargePoint from other EV charging providers is its focus on commercial customers. The company's revenues are not tied to electricity or utilization of its station. The merger was completed in February.\nAnother SPAC that's merging with an EV charging company is Climate Change Crisis Real Impact I Acquisition Corporation (NYSE:CLII). The merger is expected to complete in this quarter.\nSo there's a lot of hype surrounding EV charging stocks, many of which are using the SPAC route to go public. But is the enthusiasm justified, or are these stocks overhyped? Let's find out.\nA fast-growing market\nInvestor excitement for these stocks is certainly not baseless. To this end, automakers and battery manufacturers have committed investments of over $300 billion in bringing out new EV models and increasing production capacity.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nOf course, more electric chargers would be needed to power the growing number of EVs. As much as one-third of the energy demand from EVs may go to public charging by 2030, according to some estimates.\nPresident Joe Biden's support, including plans of installing 500,000 public charging stations by 2030, has added to the enthusiasm for EV charging stocks.\nCan EV charging companies become profitable?\nAlthough the excitement is understandable, in some cases it might have been overblown. Before getting in, investors need to consider that none of the EV charging companies are profitable right now. That's because developing charging infrastructure is capital intensive. The companies' revenue should grow over the years as the number of EVs rises. Still, it will be several years before these companies become profitable, if at all. That's because it is difficult to generate big profits by selling electricity.\nMoreover, preference for home charging may mean limited demand, and margins, for public chargers. Charging networks of EV makers, such as Tesla's own network, may also further constrain the demand for common public chargers.\nFor companies that have not yet merged with their respective SPACs, it might be too early to decide a possible winner. The hype surrounding these SPACs, thus, looks overblown.\nThe best EV charging stock\nAmong the publicly listed companies, ChargePoint looks better than Blink Charging. With $146 million in annual revenue, ChargePoint has a market capitalization of around $6 billion. That makes more sense than Blink Charging's $1.1 billion market capitalization with just $6.2 million in annual sales.\nCHPT Revenue (Annual) data by YCharts\nBlink Charging hasn't provided an expected EBITDA breakeven year, while ChargePoint expects to generate positive adjusted EBITDA by 2024.\nWith more than 132,000 charging points in North America and Europe, ChargePoint already has a strong network and reach. The company's revenue for the full-year fiscal 2021 (ending on January 31) exceeded its guidance, which lends some credibility to its guidance of EBITDA breakeven by 2024. Prior to the impact of COVID-19, ChargePoint's revenue grew 60% in 2019. The company expects to grow revenue at that rate, on average, through 2026.\nAnother key factor that differentiates ChargePoint from other EV charging providers is its focus on commercial customers. The company's revenues are not tied to electricity or utilization of its station. Instead, it generates revenue from, say, a corporate client who wants to give free charging as a perk to its employees. ChargePoint has already secured more than 4,000 commercial customers. However, the company is yet to prove the viability of its business model.\nSo, even though ChargePoint looks better than other EV charging stocks right now, it too faces risks. Conservative investors might want to let this story play out before jumping in.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":350,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":194957968,"gmtCreate":1621337134054,"gmtModify":1704355995934,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":7,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/194957968","repostId":"2136796277","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":400,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3578468158955348","authorId":"3578468158955348","name":"Kel9670ong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bd86c42e207fbd94e7f8877a29457d71","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3578468158955348","idStr":"3578468158955348"},"content":"excessive short selling must me discouraged","text":"excessive short selling must me discouraged","html":"excessive short selling must me discouraged"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199962815,"gmtCreate":1620664096137,"gmtModify":1704346439100,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b1d7989527eec8d7e15ad3ac1e9a8355","width":"1125","height":"2412"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/199962815","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":467,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199966347,"gmtCreate":1620663955489,"gmtModify":1704346437460,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/199966347","repostId":"2134630976","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2134630976","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1620659400,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2134630976?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-10 23:10","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Oil prices move lower as traders assess impact of Colonial Pipeline shutdown","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2134630976","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Gasoline futures fall back after earlier gains.Oil futures moved lower on Monday, giving up earlier ","content":"
Gasoline futures fall back after earlier gains.

Oil futures moved lower on Monday, giving up earlier gains, seen after a ransomware attack forced the shutdown of pipelines supplying around 45% of fuel to the East Coast. The deployment of Wisk air-taxis is contingent upon the FAA certifying the aircraft for commercial operation.“We have been focused on developing an aircraft and customer experience that is efficient, accessible and most importantly, safe,” Wisk CEO Gary Gysin said in a release announcing the deal. “The combination of our expertise as an autonomous eVTOL aircraft manufacturer and operator, with the operational expertise of Blade, will help usher in an even greater level of safety and service.”Wisk Cora eVTOL air taxiSource: Wisk AeroFor Blade, the Wisk partnership is the company’s latest move to add eVTOLs, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, to its charter network. In mid-April, it struck a deal with Beta Technologies for the operation of 20 piloted eVTOLs starting in 2025.Unlike the Beta Technologies aircraft, the Wisk eVTOLs are being designed to fly autonomously, carrying two passengers up to 25 miles when fully charged.“We look forward to working with Wisk to help accelerate Blade’s transition from conventional rotorcraft to safe, quiet, emission-free electric vertical aircraft,” Rob Wiesenthal, CEO of Blade said in a release announcing the deal.Wisk, which builds autonomous eVTOLs, was formed in 2019 when Boeing agreed to combine some of its development work on eVTOLs with a division of Kitty Hawk, the firm started by Google co-founder Larry Page and Sebastian Thrun. In April, Wisk filed a federal lawsuit accusing Archer Aviation, which is also developing an eVTOL, of “brazen theft.”In the complaint, Wisk accused Archer of stealing “intellectual property and confidential information.”Deloitte says passenger and cargo eVTOLs will be a $4 billion market by 2025 and $57 billion by 2035.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":132,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102587391,"gmtCreate":1620224347813,"gmtModify":1704340450526,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ","listText":"Great ","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102587391","repostId":"1177803248","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":251,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102584338,"gmtCreate":1620224306524,"gmtModify":1704340449545,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ","listText":"Great ","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102584338","repostId":"1177803248","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":371864556,"gmtCreate":1618927510275,"gmtModify":1704717030103,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576493234218060","idStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/371864556","repostId":"1162662309","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":194957968,"gmtCreate":1621337134054,"gmtModify":1704355995934,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576493234218060","authorIdStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":7,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/194957968","repostId":"2136796277","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2136796277","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1621337033,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2136796277?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-18 19:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Gamestop, AMC short sellers sit on nearly $1 billion loss - As has been the case for most of the past year, Buffett was active in the financial sector, mostly reducing Berkshire Hathaway's positions in banks. At the company's annual investor day earlier this month, Buffett provided some explanation for all the stock selling he's done in that sector.
\n
\"I like banks generally,\" he said, \"I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten.\"
\n
Let's review the three big changes Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway made to their bank holdings in the first quarter.
\n
\n
At the company's annual investor day earlier this month, Buffett provided some explanation for all the stock selling he's done in that sector.\n\"I like banks generally,\" he said, \"I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten.\"\nLet's review the three big changes Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway made to their bank holdings in the first quarter.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. All but eliminating Wells Fargo\nEveryone knew it was coming, but Buffett all but made it official last quarter, nearly eliminating his position in his onetime favorite bank, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). Berkshire Hathaway sold 51.7 million shares, dropping its stake to a mere 675,000 shares valued at $26.3 million.\nThis essentially ends what was an epic run for the Oracle of Omaha and Wells Fargo. And at one point back in 2017, it was reportedly worth as much as $29 billion.\nBut as the fallout of Wells Fargo's phony accounts scandal and other revelations about its consumer abuses continued to play out, Buffett began to lose faith in the institution and started trimming his position. At the end of 2019, they traded north of $53.\nThe stock closed at $45.73 on Thursday, and many investors still believe Wells Fargo is undervalued these days, trading at 135% tangible book value (equity minus intangible assets and goodwill). Bank valuations have shot up in recent months, and Wells Fargo in particular could see more tailwinds when the Federal Reserve lifts the $1.95 trillion asset cap that the bank has been operating under since 2018.\n2. Dumping Synchrony Financial\nLast quarter, Berkshire Hathaway also eliminated its entire stake in the consumer finance credit card company Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), selling its 21.1 million shares. Synchrony uses what it calls a \"partner-centric\" business model under which it teams up with leading retailers and digital brands that promote Synchrony's credit cards. Consumers can get deals on specific purchases by opening Synchrony credit cards, which are often branded under a retailer's name.\nWhile I wouldn't say I saw this move coming, it doesn't entirely surprise me. Over the last year, Buffett has become even more selective about which banks he wants to own. He seems to be picking a winner or two in each banking industry subcategory -- for instance, he sold his stake in America's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, and loaded up on America's second-largest bank, Bank of America.\nConsidering that Buffett already has a huge position in American Express, and loves the brand, that is likely going to be his pick for a credit-card-focused holding. Berkshire Hathaway likely made a good profit on that Synchrony investment, though, considering that the stock hit its highest level ever during Q1.\n3. Trimming U.S. Bancorp again\nBerkshire Hathaway also sold about 1.45 million shares of U.S. \nOne possible explanation relates to Buffett's well-known desire to keep his stakes in those banks below 10%, so he can avoid the additional reporting requirements that a higher ownership level would trigger. \nOverall, I still feel confident that Buffett plans to stick with U.S. Bancorp, although I will continue to watch his moves in upcoming quarters to see if he further reduces his stake in it.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":329,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199966347,"gmtCreate":1620663955489,"gmtModify":1704346437460,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576493234218060","authorIdStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/199966347","repostId":"2134630976","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":402,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9022499557,"gmtCreate":1653563529879,"gmtModify":1676535304351,"author":{"id":"3576493234218060","authorId":"3576493234218060","name":"SKCHAI","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576493234218060","authorIdStr":"3576493234218060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great 👍 ","listText":"Great 👍 ","text":"Great 👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9022499557","repostId":"1120869554","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1120869554","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1653559601,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1120869554?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-26 18:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Alibaba, NVIDIA, Costco and More: U.S. Stocks To Watch","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1120869554","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:Wall Street expects Alibaba to report quar","content":"

Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:

Wall Street expects Alibaba to report quarterly earnings at $1.10 per share on revenue of $29.95 billion before the opening bell.
