The two will keep working together on philanthropic efforts, which have addressed education, gender equality and health care.\"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,\" Bill and Melinda Gates wrote in a statement that Bill Gatestweeted out.“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”The decision reflects a personal change at the top of American business.Bill Gates led Microsoft as CEO from its founding with Paul Allen in 1975 until 2000, leaving Steve Ballmer to run the company, while Bill Gates became chairman and chief software architect. In 2008 Gatesgave up his day-to-day roleat the company to spend more time on the nonprofit Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.Last year Bill Gatesstepped downfrom Microsoft’s board asthe coronavirusbecame a force around the world. He began spending more time on the foundation alongside Melinda Gates. The two are co-chairs and trustees of the foundation, which launched in 2000.Bill and Melinda Gates both worked at Microsoft. She had been a general manager at the software company, where she worked on products such as the Encarta encyclopedia, according to herLinkedIn profile. The two met at a dinner for Microsoft employees in 1987. “It took him quite a few months before he asked me out,” Melinda Gateslater said. Bill Gates hadweighed the pros and cons on a blackboard, and in 1994 the couple were married in Hawaii.Financial details of the Gateses parting ways are not yet clear. Bill Gates owns 1.37% of Microsoft’s outstanding shares, which are worth more than $26 billion, according to FactSet. The couple were creators, along with Warren Buffett, of theGiving Pledge, a program that requires participants to give away more than half of their wealth. At one point the couple decided to move $20 billion worth of Microsoft stock to the foundation as they sought to increase their commitment to philanthropy, Bill Gates wrote in a 2019blog post. Today the foundation has more than $51 billion in assets, according to a tax filing, making itone of the world’s wealthiest foundations.“In the case of Melinda, it is a truly equal partner,” Bill Gates said in the 2019 Netflix documentary “Inside Bill’s Brain.” “She’s a lot like me in that she is optimistic and she is interested in science. She is better with people than I am. She’s a tiny bit less hardcore about knowing, you know, immunology, than I am.”In 2015 the two began pursuing areas they were interested in. Bill Gates established Breakthrough Energy, an initiative to slow climate change that includes a venture arm, and Melinda Gates created Pivotal Ventures, a company that makes investments to foster equality. For Valentine’s Day in 2020, Bill Gates posted a photoon Instagramshowing him standing with his arm around Melinda Gates. “I couldn’t ask for a better partner on this journey,” the caption said. Each year for more than a decade the Gateses have published a letter about their foundation work. In thelatest one, published in January, they reflected on the impact of the pandemic, beyond supporting the development of vaccines. “For us, the days became a blur of video meetings, troubling news alerts, and microwaved meals,” they wrote.Bill Gates is the world’s fourth richest person, behindAmazon’sJeff Bezos, LVMH’s Bernard Arnault and Tesla’s Elon Musk, according toForbes. The announcement comes two years after Bezos said he and his wife, MacKenzie, weregetting divorced. Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are among the world’s richest people, and Amazon and Microsoft compete in the cloud computing business. In particular, high-growth stocks that were able to hold up well despite the recessionary conditions in the broader economy stood out as big winners and rewarded their shareholders handsomely.

However, that narrative has changed lately.on Thursday, the Nasdaq was down another 3%, building on losses that have taken the index into correction territory even as other benchmarks were at or near record highs. Moreover, it seems as though the Nasdaq is falling even though Fed chair Jerome Powell told investors Wednesday that the economy appeared to be in solid shape.

There's one possible answer for this apparent disconnect. If investors are actually paying attention to a common way of valuing high-growth stocks, then the Fed's nonchalance about a key impact that a stronger economy could bring might explain the near-panic among shareholders of those stocks.

More damage in high-growth stocks

To be clear, Thursday's declines weren't monumental by themselves.Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), for instance, was down just 7%.MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) saw a 6.6% slump, while Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) lost 6% and Atlassian (NASDAQ:TEAM) took a 6.3% hit.

However, those declines are just the latest in a series of drops for these stocks and many like them. Tesla is trading about 27% lower than its all-time highs from just a couple months ago. Zoom has given up roughly 46% from its record levels late last year. The move seems to reveal skepticism about whether the growth stocks have seen their shares rise too far, too quickly.

What the Fed has to do with high-growth stocks

It might seem as though the Federal Reserve's actions wouldn't necessarily have any impact on high-growth stocks. Investor interest in these companies has been so high that access to capital hasn't been a problem. Many of them have more than enough cash to make it through tough times in the future, and some of them are even cash-flow positive and can sustain themselves simply by maintaining current business levels.

However, the recent rise in interest rates due to inflationary fears has been troubling to investors. One potential impact is that if you value a company based on the discounted value of its future financial results, then higher interest rates make the performance that comes further into the future less valuable. With rates at zero, it almost doesn't matter from a valuation standpoint whether a company makes money now or five years from now, and low rates reward companies that defer smaller profits now in favor of larger profits later. That's been the basis for the huge run-ups in these stocks.

Higher interest rates reverse that trend. Suddenly, companies will get rewarded for producing results now rather than later. Valuations on companies that will take years to play out will take a hit.

Seize the opportunity

For long-term investors, that actually might be good news. It would signal that the stock price declines aren't about fears that companies aren't going to be able to live up to their full potential. Rather, it just reduces the value put on those same strong future results.

If you can get the same strong business at a discount, you should jump at the chance. That's the advantage long-term investors have, and now's the time to look closely at some of the stocks the rest of the market is giving up on.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Are the Nasdaq's Highest-Growth Stocks Panicking About a Strong Economy?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Are the Nasdaq's Highest-Growth Stocks Panicking About a Strong Economy?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-19 10:53 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The answer may lie in a simple concept. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) was the stock market leader throughout most of 2020, powering ahead to much greater gains than its fellow major ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".DJI":"道琼斯","TSLA":"特斯拉",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite","ZM":"Zoom",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/18/why-are-the-nasdaqs-highest-growth-stocks-panickin/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1193357878","content_text":"The answer may lie in a simple concept. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) was the stock market leader throughout most of 2020, powering ahead to much greater gains than its fellow major benchmarks. Its share price has had a spectacular growth in 2020 (rising by about 400%), primarily because of the pandemic, which has benefited from the surge in demand for all its digital businesses. This accelerated growth is unlikely to be repeated in 2021. However, 2021 will continue to usher in strong growth because of increasing online demand in the region.
\n
Sea is a promising company and has the potential to become one of the largest companies in ASEAN because of its strong appetite for growth and expansion. It is already three times the size of Singapore Telecommunication corporation and twice that of PTT (Thai Petroleum) by enterprise value.
\n
Sea’s future share price movement would depend on further increases in revenue growth and new revenue streams. However, it has significant risks and challenges from competition. At the current share price, Sea is 34% over valued (see annex 1) and is trading at 27 times of sales (2.5 times the average of its competitors, see annex 2). However, Sea’s good growth prospects within the next 2 years justify its price.
\n
Sea’s three core businesses (gaming, e-commerce and financial services) have been growing rapidly (160% year-on-year by revenue). The revenue stream to watch in 2021 is its fintech arm (i.e. SeaMoney), which is currently contributing only one percent to Sea’s overall revenue. It has been awarded a banking licence by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2020 (1 of 2 awardees) and acquired Bank Kesejahteraan Ekonomi (in Indonesia) in January 2021. Its financial services business is well positioned for a prospective growth towards the end of 2021 and into 2022. SeaMoney on its own could potentially add an additional $15 per share to Sea’s overall share price by end of 2021 (based on fundamental discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation with ADYEN’s historical data as a comparator).
\n
Overview
\n
The bulk of Sea’s business is in Southeast Asia. It operates in three key busines segments, through Garena (digital gaming), Shopee (e-commerce), and SeaMoney (digital financial services). Despite its rapid regional expansion, it has not yet generated profit. This situation is normal for businesses such as Sea, which has been focusing on building market position and expansion. Sea benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated its growth due to the surge in demand for its digital businesses.
\n
Valuation of Sea Ltd
\n
Determining a value for Sea is difficult at this point in time as the future potential of SeaMoney has yet to take shape. However, a ten-year DCF projection based on the company’s past performance can be used to determine a minimum intrinsic share price value without the growth contribution of SeaMoney (see figure 1 and table 1). Based on the DCF valuation, a $155.99 share price can be considered a low estimate for Sea. It is unlikely that the share price will drop below this point, barring external shocks and significant regulatory changes to the business sectors that it serves.
\n
Figure 1: Sea Ltd: Revenues, net income and free cash flows (Millions of Dollars)
\n
Source: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd.
\n
Table 1: Rates used in DCF valuation model
\n
Source: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd.
\n
Growth drivers
\n
Sea operates in a large agreeable market (Southeast Asia). It is one of the largest and fastest growing regions in the world (4.9% per year in the four next years) with a population of 670 million people and a GDP of $4.7 trillion by 2025 (more than that of India). The region’s internet economy has more than tripled over the past four years, reaching $100 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow to $300 billion by 2025 (a 20% CAGR) according to the Google, Temasek and Bain, e-Conomy SEA 2020 annual report. Digital financial services are another promising market for the region as it is expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2025, accounting for half the money transactions conducted in Southeast Asia.
\n
Sea has multiple revenue streams, and the company has ample opportunities to explore new revenue streams and enhance synergistic advantages. Garena is already profitable and is an exclusive distributor of Tencent Games in Southeast Asia. It has been expanding in game development. This business segment is bank rolling Shopee and SeaMoney. The latter has the potential to contribute to Sea’s future growth. It is currently contributing only 1 percent of Sea’s revenue (see figure 1). It is not unreasonable to assume SeaMoney’s revenue could witness an exponential growth, if compared against the historical growth of Dutch fintech company, Adyen (also with a banking licence) (see figure 2).
\n
Figure 1: Sea Ltd revenue breakdown
\n
Source: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd.
\n
Figure 2: SeaMoney vs. Adyen revenue
\n
Source: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd and Adyen.
\n
Risks
\n
There are some risks to consider. They include the following:
\n
\n
Existing competition (high impact):Given the attractiveness of the markets that Sea participates in, there is fierce competition (especially in e-commerce and fintech) from other players such as Lazada, Grab, Gojek, Tokopedia and Bukalapak. This competitive pressure put into question Sea’s future growth and profits.
\n
New competition Gojek/Tokopedia merger (high impact):In January 2021, Gojek and Grab merger talks fell apart. Currently, Gojek and Tokopedia are in the process to merge to form a $40 billion powerhouse and Grab is seeking IPO. The anticipated new entity (Gojek & Tokopedia) will be a formidable competitor to Sea in Indonesia, given Gojek’s and Tokopedia’s extensive business networks in the region.
\n
Financial risk (moderate impact):Sea has been increasing its debt leverage, at US$1.92 billion (September 2020) – an increase of US$470.6 million in a year. However, it also has US$3.55 billion in cash, leading to a US$1.63 billion net cash position. While Sea is losing money, it has generated positive free cash flow of US$96 million (September 2020) and therefore has limited short-term balance sheet risk.
\n
Sustainability (high impact):Sea has not been profitable in the past five years and will not be until 2022. It has been using the profits from Garena (its only profitable business segment) to finance the expansion of its e-commerce and Fintech businesses.
\n
Over-valuation (moderate impact):Sea is currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 27 times. This ratio is high as compared with Tencent Holdings at 11 times, Alibaba at 10 times and Meituan at 15 times. Although justifiable, this is a high premium to take on.
\n
Regulations (high impact):Sea is subject to government regulations. Its financial services business is especially susceptible to regulatory changes. This can be further complicated by the number of countries it operates in. However, this is unlikely to be an issue in Singapore, Sea’s home country.
\n
Share dilution (moderate impact):Sea has been constantly diluting its shares to support the financing of its various business expansions (see table 2).
\n
\n
Table 2: Sea’s shares
\n

\n
Conclusion
\n
Sea Ltd is a potentially high rewarding long-term investment but has a considerable amount of risk. However, the author believes that the company will overcome most of its challenge and strengthen its position as one of the dominant digital players in Southeast Asia. Investors should consider buying Sea as a long-term investment and with the strategy to buy the share when it dips in price and to slowly increase their position over time.
\n
Sea is one of the most exciting stories to watch. Key issues to follow closely are the company’s growth, SeaMoney development and rising challenges for competitors. Sea is defiantly a worthy pick for investors who are looking to diversify their portfolio with a good Southeast Asian stock.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Sea Limited Is A Stock To Watch: High Risk, High Return
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSea Limited Is A Stock To Watch: High Risk, High Return\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-18 11:58 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nSea Ltd is a potentially high-rewarding long-term investment.\nThe company is involved in three key areas of digital businesses (digital gaming, e-commerce and fintech), which have benefited ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SE":"Sea Ltd"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4414622-sea-stock-high-risk-high-return","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1114091354","content_text":"Summary\n\nSea Ltd is a potentially high-rewarding long-term investment.\nThe company is involved in three key areas of digital businesses (digital gaming, e-commerce and fintech), which have benefited immensely from the pandemic.\nIts future share price movement would depend on the company’s growth and operational expansion, the development of the company’s fintech/digital banking business segment, and potential risks from competitors.\n\nInvestment thesis\nIt is difficult to determine Sea’s(NYSE:SE)share price movement for the short run (early to mid-2021). Cybersecurity, cloud computing, and telehealth are all examples of fast-growing trends that investors can't seem to get enough of.

But if there's one opportunity that's set head and shoulders above the rest, it's the metaverse.

In simple terms, the metaverse is the next iteration of the internet. It describes a 3D virtual environment that'll allow users to interact with their surroundings, including other users. Not only is there a gaming/entertainment aspect to the metaverse, but this collective of virtual worlds is expected to breed an entirely new ecosystem.

Making the metaverse tick is a big job, and it's going to take a large number of companies and innovators. There'll need to be enough processing capacity, storage capacity, reduced latency for users within virtual worlds, digital identity verification/security, and payment platforms in place, just to name a few of the critical functions necessary for the metaverse to succeed.

Yet, if all goes as planned, the metaverse could be the biggest investing opportunity since the birth of the internet. Matthew Ball, the CEO of venture capital company Epyllion, has estimated the metaverse market value at $10 trillion to $30 trillion within the next 10 to 15 years. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley believes the metaverse can eventually be worth $8 billion just in China!

Although the metaverse remains a work in progress, select Wall Street analysts and investment banks see three metaverse-associated stocks skyrocketing between 195% and 383% over the coming 12 months.

Coinbase Global: Implied upside of 208%

The first metaverse stock with exceptional upside potential over the next year is the leading cryptocurrency exchange and ecosystem Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN). Analyst Lisa Ellis of MoffettNathanson currently has the highest price target on Coinbase at $600. If it were to trade for this figure, investors would more than triple their money, based on where shares closed this past weekend.

Coinbase would be a pretty obvious beneficiary of the metaverse, given that protocol tokens from blockchain-based games have proved essential to early iterations of a decentralized metaverse. With Coinbase leading the way among crypto investments and transactions, it could become the de facto stop for digital currency purchases needed within virtual worlds or ecosystems.

But Coinbase sees its future in the metaverse going well beyond its cryptocurrency exchange. In December, the company released a note implying that its role will be to create "an identity on-ramp into the metaverse." Coinbase believes there'll be numerous metaverses linked together, and that having a secure identity tag, stored as a non-fungible token (NFT), will allow users easy access from one metaverse to the next. In addition to focusing on NFT identity tags, the company notes that it's working on technology that'll allow users to purchase their own avatar.

However, investors should understand that Coinbase is far from a lock to succeed. Though it's been raking in the dough from increased crypto transactions over the past 13-plus months, competition among crypto exchanges is heating up. We've watched this same fee-based price war play out with traditional brokerages, and it ended with trading commissions eventually going to zero.

Coinbase is also highly dependent on the success of Bitcoin and Ethereum, which make up the bulk of trading volume on its platform. Any weakness from the "Big Two" can quickly reduce sales and profits. With the metaverse many years away from being a big growth driver for Coinbase, it's more likely these concerns will limit this stock's upside.

Matterport: Implied upside of 383%

If you want something a bit more under the radar, borderline small-cap stock Matterport (NASDAQ:MTTR) has the potential to nearly quintuple, at least according to one analyst. Daniel Ives at Wedbush Securities has an aggressive $38 price target on shares of Matterport, which equates to upside of 383%, based on where it closed last week.

Of the three stocks on this list, Matterport has the most direct ties to the metaverse. This is a company that takes physical objects in the real world and creates 3D digital twins of them in the virtual world. The applications for this technology are immediate. For instance, real estate companies are using this technology to allow prospective buyers to get a real feel for properties on the market.

But as you can imagine, there's plenty of use for Matterport's spatial data technology in the metaverse. Imagine being able to take your home, or perhaps the home you've always dreamed about, and place it on your own plot of land in the virtual world. Though we're likely a ways away from that happening, investors are already buying into Matterport specifically for the intrigue surrounding its metaverse ties.

For the time being, Matterport's growth is primarily derived from cloud-based subscriptions. While users do have the option of accessing their digital twins for free, a paid subscription is required so that others can access these virtual twins. As of the end of the third quarter, Matterport's annual recurring revenue (what it expects to generate annually from subscription revenue) was $62.7 million.

The catch with Matterport is that it's going to require patience. Profitability isn't expected anytime soon, and the company is still valued at close to 13 times Wall Street's forecast sales for 2022.

Sea Limited: Implied upside of 195%

A final metaverse stock with plenty of upside, according to Wall Street, is Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE). The high-water price target on Wall Street of $467 comes from analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam at Tellimer Research. Should Sea make waves and hit this lofty prognostication, shareholders would enjoy gains of 195%!

Sea's ties to the metaverse are fairly fresh, with the company responsible for raising about $6.3 million for artificial intelligence-based gaming company Refract. Interestingly, the funding that Sea helped anchor allowed Refract to complete an acquisition of its own (game developer Deep Dive Studios).

It should be noted that Sea already has a wildly successful gaming unit, known as Garena. The company's mobile game, Free Fire, is a global hit. During the September-ended quarter, 729 million people were actively gaming on its platform, with 12.8% of those users paying to play. It's worth pointing out that the industry's pay-to-play conversion ratio is often closer to just 2%.

Beyond gaming, Sea Limited is building up its digital financial services segment, known as SeaMoney. When the third quarter closed, more than 39 million people were paying for digital wallet services. Cybersecurity, cloud computing, and telehealth are all examples of fast-growing trends that investors can't seem to get enough of.But if there's one opportunity that's set head and shoulders above the rest, it's the metaverse.Image source: Getty Images. In simple terms, the metaverse is the next iteration of the internet. It describes a 3D virtual environment that'll allow users to interact with their surroundings, including other users. Not only is there a gaming/entertainment aspect to the metaverse, but this collective of virtual worlds is expected to breed an entirely new ecosystem.Making the metaverse tick is a big job, and it's going to take a large number of companies and innovators. There'll need to be enough processing capacity, storage capacity, reduced latency for users within virtual worlds, digital identity verification/security, and payment platforms in place, just to name a few of the critical functions necessary for the metaverse to succeed.Yet, if all goes as planned, the metaverse could be the biggest investing opportunity since the birth of the internet. Matthew Ball, the CEO of venture capital company Epyllion, has estimated the metaverse market value at $10 trillion to $30 trillion within the next 10 to 15 years. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley believes the metaverse can eventually be worth $8 billion just in China!Although the metaverse remains a work in progress, select Wall Street analysts and investment banks see three metaverse-associated stocks skyrocketing between 195% and 383% over the coming 12 months.Image source: Getty Images.Coinbase Global: Implied upside of 208%The first metaverse stock with exceptional upside potential over the next year is the leading cryptocurrency exchange and ecosystem Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN). Analyst Lisa Ellis of MoffettNathanson currently has the highest price target on Coinbase at $600. If it were to trade for this figure, investors would more than triple their money, based on where shares closed this past weekend.Coinbase would be a pretty obvious beneficiary of the metaverse, given that protocol tokens from blockchain-based games have proved essential to early iterations of a decentralized metaverse. With Coinbase leading the way among crypto investments and transactions, it could become the de facto stop for digital currency purchases needed within virtual worlds or ecosystems. But Coinbase sees its future in the metaverse going well beyond its cryptocurrency exchange. In December, the company released a note implying that its role will be to create \"an identity on-ramp into the metaverse.\" Coinbase believes there'll be numerous metaverses linked together, and that having a secure identity tag, stored as a non-fungible token (NFT), will allow users easy access from one metaverse to the next. We've watched this same fee-based price war play out with traditional brokerages, and it ended with trading commissions eventually going to zero.Coinbase is also highly dependent on the success of Bitcoin and Ethereum, which make up the bulk of trading volume on its platform. Any weakness from the \"Big Two\" can quickly reduce sales and profits. With the metaverse many years away from being a big growth driver for Coinbase, it's more likely these concerns will limit this stock's upside.Image source: Getty Images.Matterport: Implied upside of 383%If you want something a bit more under the radar, borderline small-cap stock Matterport (NASDAQ:MTTR) has the potential to nearly quintuple, at least according to one analyst. Daniel Ives at Wedbush Securities has an aggressive $38 price target on shares of Matterport, which equates to upside of 383%, based on where it closed last week.Of the three stocks on this list, Matterport has the most direct ties to the metaverse. Profitability isn't expected anytime soon, and the company is still valued at close to 13 times Wall Street's forecast sales for 2022.Image source: Getty Images.Sea Limited: Implied upside of 195%A final metaverse stock with plenty of upside, according to Wall Street, is Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE). The high-water price target on Wall Street of $467 comes from analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam at Tellimer Research. Should Sea make waves and hit this lofty prognostication, shareholders would enjoy gains of 195%!Sea's ties to the metaverse are fairly fresh, with the company responsible for raising about $6.3 million for artificial intelligence-based gaming company Refract. It's worth pointing out that the industry's pay-to-play conversion ratio is often closer to just 2%.Beyond gaming, Sea Limited is building up its digital financial services segment, known as SeaMoney. When the third quarter closed, more than 39 million people were paying for digital wallet services. With access to basic banking services somewhat limited in many of the emerging markets Sea operates, the company looks to have a fast-growing business segment that could help to democratize access to financial services over time. But what may really define Sea for many years to come is Shopee, the company's rapidly growing e-commerce platform. Shopee has consistently been the most downloaded shopping app in Southeastern Asia, and it's gaining steam in Brazil. Shopee's gross merchandise value (GMV) annual run-rate surpassed $67 billion in the third quarter, which is up from $10 billion in GMV for the entirety of 2018.Of the three companies listed here, Sea appears the most likely to eventually make a run at Wall Street's loftiest price target.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":324,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9910190737,"gmtCreate":1663569590629,"gmtModify":1676537292670,"author":{"id":"3577095404727353","authorId":"3577095404727353","name":"NamelessArgo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b532f02fe0ebb74463977b8107a04e0f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577095404727353","authorIdStr":"3577095404727353"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Not sure if this should count as bad news or good news..","listText":"Not sure if this should count as bad news or good news..","text":"Not sure if this should count as bad news or good news..","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9910190737","repostId":"2268954726","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2268954726","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1663566441,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2268954726?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-19 13:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Sea Plans to Fire 3% of Shopee Indonesia Staff","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2268954726","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Sea Ltd. is preparing to fire 3% of Shopee employees in Indonesia, part of a broader wave of regiona","content":"

Sea Ltd. is preparing to fire 3% of Shopee employees in Indonesia, part of a broader wave of regional job cuts intended to curb ballooning losses and win back investors.

The Singapore-based company will begin notifying affected staff Monday at its cash-burning e-commerce arm Shopee, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg News. Amazon said earlier this year that Bezos would be stepping down from his post as CEO and that cloud chief Andy Jassywould succeed him.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":374763210,"gmtCreate":1619481513130,"gmtModify":1704724532112,"author":{"id":"3577095404727353","authorId":"3577095404727353","name":"NamelessArgo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b532f02fe0ebb74463977b8107a04e0f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577095404727353","authorIdStr":"3577095404727353"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Why there is a dip ?

If investors are actually paying attention to a common way of valuing high-growth stocks, then the Fed's nonchalance about a key impact that a stronger economy could bring might explain the near-panic among shareholders of those stocks.More damage in high-growth stocksTo be clear, Thursday's declines weren't monumental by themselves.Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), for instance, was down just 7%.MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) saw a 6.6% slump, while Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) lost 6% and Atlassian (NASDAQ:TEAM) took a 6.3% hit. What the Fed has to do with high-growth stocksIt might seem as though the Federal Reserve's actions wouldn't necessarily have any impact on high-growth stocks. That's been the basis for the huge run-ups in these stocks.Higher interest rates reverse that trend. Suddenly, companies will get rewarded for producing results now rather than later. Valuations on companies that will take years to play out will take a hit.Seize the opportunityFor long-term investors, that actually might be good news. It would signal that the stock price declines aren't about fears that companies aren't going to be able to live up to their full potential. Rather, it just reduces the value put on those same strong future results. If you can get the same strong business at a discount, you should jump at the chance. That's the advantage long-term investors have, and now's the time to look closely at some of the stocks the rest of the market is giving up on.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":347,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":327935326,"gmtCreate":1616047872865,"gmtModify":1704790192186,"author":{"id":"3577095404727353","authorId":"3577095404727353","name":"NamelessArgo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b532f02fe0ebb74463977b8107a04e0f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577095404727353","authorIdStr":"3577095404727353"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read.","listText":"Good read.","text":"Good read.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/327935326","repostId":"1114091354","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1114091354","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1616039884,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1114091354?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-18 11:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Sea Limited Is A Stock To Watch: High Risk, High Return","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1114091354","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Summary\n\nSea Ltd is a potentially high-rewarding long-term investment.\nThe company is involved in th","content":"
Summary
\n
\n
Sea Ltd is a potentially high-rewarding long-term investment.
\n
The company is involved in three key areas of digital businesses (digital gaming, e-commerce and fintech), which have benefited immensely from the pandemic.
\n
Its future share price movement would depend on the company’s growth and operational expansion, the development of the company’s fintech/digital banking business segment, and potential risks from competitors.
\n
\n
Investment thesis
\n
It is difficult to determine Sea’s(NYSE:SE)share price movement for the short run (early to mid-2021).

\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SE":"Sea Ltd"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4414622-sea-stock-high-risk-high-return","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1114091354","content_text":"Summary\n\nSea Ltd is a potentially high-rewarding long-term investment.\nThe company is involved in three key areas of digital businesses (digital gaming, e-commerce and fintech), which have benefited immensely from the pandemic.\nIts future share price movement would depend on the company’s growth and operational expansion, the development of the company’s fintech/digital banking business segment, and potential risks from competitors.\n\nInvestment thesis\nIt is difficult to determine Sea’s(NYSE:SE)share price movement for the short run (early to mid-2021). Garena is already profitable and is an exclusive distributor of Tencent Games in Southeast Asia. It has been expanding in game development. This business segment is bank rolling Shopee and SeaMoney. The latter has the potential to contribute to Sea’s future growth. It is currently contributing only 1 percent of Sea’s revenue (see figure 1). It is not unreasonable to assume SeaMoney’s revenue could witness an exponential growth, if compared against the historical growth of Dutch fintech company, Adyen (also with a banking licence) (see figure 2).\nFigure 1: Sea Ltd revenue breakdown\nSource: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd.\nFigure 2: SeaMoney vs. Adyen revenue\nSource: Author’s calculation, with data from Sea Ltd and Adyen.\nRisks\nThere are some risks to consider. They include the following:\n\nExisting competition (high impact):Given the attractiveness of the markets that Sea participates in, there is fierce competition (especially in e-commerce and fintech) from other players such as Lazada, Grab, Gojek, Tokopedia and Bukalapak. This competitive pressure put into question Sea’s future growth and profits.\nNew competition Gojek/Tokopedia merger (high impact):In January 2021, Gojek and Grab merger talks fell apart. Currently, Gojek and Tokopedia are in the process to merge to form a $40 billion powerhouse and Grab is seeking IPO. The anticipated new entity (Gojek & Tokopedia) will be a formidable competitor to Sea in Indonesia, given Gojek’s and Tokopedia’s extensive business networks in the region.\nFinancial risk (moderate impact):Sea has been increasing its debt leverage, at US$1.92 billion (September 2020) – an increase of US$470.6 million in a year. However, it also has US$3.55 billion in cash, leading to a US$1.63 billion net cash position. While Sea is losing money, it has generated positive free cash flow of US$96 million (September 2020) and therefore has limited short-term balance sheet risk.\nSustainability (high impact):Sea has not been profitable in the past five years and will not be until 2022. It has been using the profits from Garena (its only profitable business segment) to finance the expansion of its e-commerce and Fintech businesses.\nOver-valuation (moderate impact):Sea is currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 27 times. This ratio is high as compared with Tencent Holdings at 11 times, Alibaba at 10 times and Meituan at 15 times. Although justifiable, this is a high premium to take on.\nRegulations (high impact):Sea is subject to government regulations. Its financial services business is especially susceptible to regulatory changes. This can be further complicated by the number of countries it operates in. However, this is unlikely to be an issue in Singapore, Sea’s home country.\nShare dilution (moderate impact):Sea has been constantly diluting its shares to support the financing of its various business expansions (see table 2).\n\nTable 2: Sea’s shares\n\nConclusion\nSea Ltd is a potentially high rewarding long-term investment but has a considerable amount of risk. However, the author believes that the company will overcome most of its challenge and strengthen its position as one of the dominant digital players in Southeast Asia. Investors should consider buying Sea as a long-term investment and with the strategy to buy the share when it dips in price and to slowly increase their position over time.\nSea is one of the most exciting stories to watch. Key issues to follow closely are the company’s growth, SeaMoney development and rising challenges for competitors. Sea is defiantly a worthy pick for investors who are looking to diversify their portfolio with a good Southeast Asian stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":313,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
