But make no mistake about it: The billionaire investor really likes dividends. In fact, he highlighted the huge amounts that Berkshire receives in dividends from a couple of its top holdings in his most recent letter to shareholders.
\n
Berkshire's dividend payments will no doubt increase thanks to some of its recent purchases. Buffett just bought three high-yield dividend stocks. Here's which stocks he scooped up -- and whether or not they're good picks for you too.
\n
AbbVie
\n
Berkshire initiated a position in AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) during the third quarter of 2020 with a purchase of nearly 21.3 million shares. Buffett appears to like the big drugmaker. Berkshire owned AbbVie over 25.5 million shares of the stock by the end of the fourth quarter.
\n
AbbVie's pedigree as a dividend stock is impressive. It's a Dividend Aristocrat with 49 consecutive years of dividend increases. Since being spun off from Abbott Labs in 2013, AbbVie has boosted its dividend by 225%. The dividend yield currently stands at nearly 4.9%.
\n
I think that many investors will, like Buffett, find AbbVie to be an attractive pick. In addition to its great dividend, the stock is cheap with shares trading at less than nine times expected earnings.
\n
The company faces some headwinds beginning in 2023 with the entrance of biosimilars to its top-selling drug Humira in the U.S. market. However, it won't take long for AbbVie to recover. The company expects to deliver modest revenue growth in 2024 followed by high-single-digit growth throughout the rest of the decade.
\n
Chevron
\n
Buffett hasn't been a big fan of the energy sector over the last couple of years. However, he seems to be warming up at least somewhat. In the fourth quarter, Berkshire opened a sizable position in Chevron(NYSE:CVX).
\n
The oil and gas giant is also a Dividend Aristocrat with 33 consecutive years of dividend hikes. Chevron's dividend yield of over 4.9% is juicy enough to catch the eye of most income investors.
\n
There are other reasons investors might like Chevron in addition to its strong dividend. The energy sector could mount a strong comeback this year as the economy reopens. The increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccines combined with the recent stimulus package should help drive the recovery.
\n
Chevron ranks as one of the best energy stocks around. The company continues to enjoy a solid financial position. It reduced capital spending even while positioning itself well for rising oil and gas prices with the well-timed acquisition of Noble Energy. Although the stock is likely to remain volatile, Chevron should still be a winner for investors over the next five-to-10 years.
\n
Verizon Communications
\n
The biggest addition of all for Berkshire in Q4 was its initiation of a position in Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ). Buffett and his team were so enthusiastic about the telecom giant that Berkshire bought around $9 billion worth of Verizon's shares.
\n
So why did Buffett buy Verizon? He almost certainly appreciated the company's dividend. Although Verizon isn't a Dividend Aristocrat, it has increased its dividend payout for 14 years running. The telecom leader's dividend yield of nearly 4.5% provides Berkshire a much better return than parking its money in money market accounts.
\n
Verizon also appears to be poised to be a leader in high-speed 5G networks. Buffett might not be an expert in autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things, but he definitely understands the importance of a solid infrastructure. And Verizon's 5G infrastructure is massive and growing.
\n
Even with its 5G prospects, I don't view Verizon as a great growth stock at this point. However, I think that it's a pretty good pick for income-seeking investors.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Warren Buffett Just Bought These 3 High-Yield Dividend Stocks. In large part this was because investors were disappointed by the growth trajectory for the first quarter of the year, despite a 100% year-over-year increase, Ives and Backe said. \n
\n
\n Essential reading:Tesla is in decline, SUVs are king, and more insights from this critical electric-vehicle market \n
\n
\n The selloff in EV stocks has mostly been focused on Chinese companies, the Wedbush analysts said, pointing to Xpeng $(XPEV)$ and Li Auto $(LI)$ stocks, as well as U.S. electric-vehicle battery company QuantumScape $(QS)$, which is backed by Bill Gates and Volkswagen , among others. \n
\n
\n Despite the recent headwinds, Wedbush remains bullish on electric-vehicle stocks, projecting a $5 trillion market opportunity over the next 10 years. This is based on a growth in EV market penetration from 3% today to 10% by 2025, with much more to come. \n
\n
\n The analysts point to established auto makers, like Volvo , GM $(GM)$, and Ford $(F)$, getting into the electric-vehicle business as substantive evidence that there is pent-up global demand for EV technology. \n
\n
\n More:Audi is betting on the luxury market in a new electric-vehicle venture with China's oldest car maker \n
\n
\n So look beyond just auto stocks, Wedbush advises, to the wider ecosystem, which includes QuantumScape as well as other companies exposed to the sector, like sustainable battery recycler Li-Cycle--which intends to list in New York via a merger with Peridot Acquisition $(PDAC)$. The analysts also project that there will be a \"green tidal wave\" driven by President Joe Biden's administration, with tax credits and incentives around electric-vehicles. \n
\n
\n In the short term, however, Ives and Backe say that China will be \"the linchpin of growth\" for the EV market, with \"eye popping demand\" in 2021 and 2022 giving Tesla, with its Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, a major competitive advantage. \n
\n
\n Domestic players Nio, BYD, Xpeng, and Li Auto are also \"firing on all cylinders and just scratching the surface\" of total addressable demand in China, the analyst said. \n
\n
\n -Jack Denton; The analysts also project that there will be a \"green tidal wave\" driven by President Joe Biden's administration, with tax credits and incentives around electric-vehicles. \n\n\n In the short term, however, Ives and Backe say that China will be \"the linchpin of growth\" for the EV market, with \"eye popping demand\" in 2021 and 2022 giving Tesla, with its Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, a major competitive advantage. \n\n\n Domestic players Nio, BYD, Xpeng, and Li Auto are also \"firing on all cylinders and just scratching the surface\" of total addressable demand in China, the analyst said. \n\n\n -Jack Denton; 415-439-6400; AskNewswires@dowjones.com \n\n\n \n\n\n$(END)$ Dow Jones Newswires\n\n\n March 04, 2021 09:52 ET (14:52 GMT)\n\n\n Copyright (c) 2021 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":163,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365965447,"gmtCreate":1614690726689,"gmtModify":1704774065657,"author":{"id":"3577143241221050","authorId":"3577143241221050","name":"HongShen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c60bda6a31aa639774808d0d6dde6b56","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577143241221050","authorIdStr":"3577143241221050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Help comment and like","listText":"Help comment and like","text":"Help comment and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/365965447","repostId":"1137118289","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":169,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":366016624,"gmtCreate":1614359533568,"gmtModify":1704771243445,"author":{"id":"3577143241221050","authorId":"3577143241221050","name":"HongShen","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c60bda6a31aa639774808d0d6dde6b56","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577143241221050","authorIdStr":"3577143241221050"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment pls","listText":"Like and comment pls","text":"Like and comment pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/366016624","repostId":"2114239306","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2114239306","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1614356592,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2114239306?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-27 00:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Chinese EV Company Li Did Well Last Quarter, But Not Well Enough","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2114239306","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Chinese electric-vehicle maker Li Auto Inc. (NASDAQ: LI) reported solid fourth-quarter numbers Thursday, but guidance wasn't quite as rosy.","content":"

Chinese electric-vehicle maker Li Auto Inc. (NASDAQ:LI) reported solid fourth-quarter numbers Thursday, but guidance wasn't quite as rosy.
\n
Li wasn't the only Chinese EV company to feel a blowback. Nio Limited (NYSE:NIO), which is due to report Monday, fell 9.7% and Xpeng Inc (NYSE:XPEV) lost 8.55% Thursday. Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) also gave up 8.1% in the wake of the results. Earlier this week, Texas-based Hyliion Holdings Corporation (NYSE:HYLN), which makes EV powertrains for commercial fleets, reported a loss of 13 cents a share in the fourth quarter.
\n
Figures
\n
The results were a little confusing, but good as Li reported $636 million in sales as revenue jumped 39%, exceeding $604 million that analysts projected in sales. The company reported a loss from operations but a positive net income. Still, the loss from operations was about $12 million which is smaller than expected. Li Auto earnings came in at 2 cents a share whereas analysts expected a loss of 4 cents on revenue of $565.5 million. The company also generated positive free cash flow. Investors like it when young companies demonstrate the ability to be self-funding by generating the cash they need to grow from their own operations.
\n
Throughout the quarter, Li delivered 14,464 of its Li One SUV, its only vehicle in production which is technically a hybrid because it has a small gas engine to extend its range. This is 67% more than the third quarter's 8,660 with the total for 2020 being approximately 32,624 deliveries. Its rival Nio sold 17,353 units in Q4 and 43,728 for the year, while Xpeng sold 12,964 in Q4 and 27,041 for the year. What enabled Li to deliver a bottom-line profit from an operating loss is the required accounting of securities.
\n
Outlook
\n
Management expects first-quarter revenue to come in the range of $450.6 million to $493.5 million. This range would represents a growth between 246% and 279% compared to previous fiscal year's quarter. Deliveries are expected to be in the range between 10,500 and 11,500 vehicles, up 263%-297% compared to the same quarter last year but less than the fourth quarter which will make reaching analyst projections for 2021 sales projections more challenging. The company reported that January deliveries soared 356% YoY to 5,379 but that is below December 2020's 6,126.
\n
As the automotive industry is undergoing a once-in-a-century shift to smart EVs, the fourth quarter ended a big year for Li that grew significantly due to strong demand for its distinctive product offering and superior user experience. The government's support for EVs also doesn't hurt as to encourage adoption, not only are license plates guaranteed but they are also free.
\n
The earnings provided a sigh of relief for investors as Li stock has had a rocky ride lately. As of Wednesday's close, shares were down about 11% month to date.
\n
This article is not a press release and is contributed by IAMNewswire. The rally began after 2:30 p.m. (1930 GMT).
\n
Other so-called “stonks” - an intentional misspelling of ‘stocks’ - favored by retail traders on sites such as Reddit’s WallStreetBets, also shot higher. AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc gained 18%, Koss Corp rallied more than 50% and BlackBerry Corp rose nearly 9%. Shares of Canadian cannabis company Tilray Inc gained nearly 13%.
\n
Analysts could not pinpoint one reason for the sharp move. At least one ruled out a short squeeze like that which fired the “Reddit rally” in January when mom-and-pop investors bought GameStop furiously to punish hedge funds that had bet against the retailer. Some Twitter users pointed to an activist investor’s tweet of an ice cream cone picture. Others cited factors including a reshuffling of top executives and options trading.
\n
Shortly before 2 p.m., activist investor Ryan Cohen, a major shareholder of GameStop and founder of Chewy.com, tweeted a picture of a McDonald’s ice cream cone with a frog emoji. Some GameStop bulls wondered online whether it was a veiled message that Cohen would fix GameStop’s business, like the fast-food chain fixed its ice cream machines.
\n
“I don’t know what an ice-cream means,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst covering GameStop at Wedbush Securities. “People are looking for signals.”
\n
Others pointed to the resignation of GameStop Chief Financial Officer Jim Bell as the company focuses on shifting into technology-driven sales.
\n
“GameStop announced the resignation of its CFO last night. Some may have taken this as a good sign that RC Ventures is making a difference at the company in terms of trying to accelerate the shift to digital,” said Joseph Feldman, an analyst at Telsey Advisory Group.
\n
Stephanie Wissink, analyst at Jefferies Research cited her research report noting that the CFO resigned after the company settled with activist investor Ryan Cohen’s RC Ventures.
Her note said the chain of stores would likely signal a change in business model by going after “a CFO with a more extensive tech (vs. retail) background.”
\n
Ihor Dusaniwsky, managing director of predictive analytics at analytics firm S3 Partners, said short covering was “not the predominant reason for this price move.”
\n
“It’s mostly long buying with short covering sprinkled in to help grease the skids up,” Dusaniwsky said.
\n
Fewer than 18 million GameStop shares were shorted as of Tuesday, down from over 70 million in early January, according to S3.
\n
Some said options trading may have amplified the move.
\n
Henry Schwartz, head of product intelligence at Cboe Global Markets, said the most active options contracts for GameStop were in calls around the $50 and $60 strike prices, expiring Friday. Those contracts began picking up in volume after 11 a.m., Schwartz said, adding that when the stock started jumping after 2:30 p.m., whoever was short those contracts may have had to buy GME stock to hedge their position.
\n
GameStop devotees on Reddit’s popular WallStreetBets forum expressed surprise.
\n
“Why is GME going up?” another retail trader asked on WallStreetBets. “Because we like the stock”, another replied, borrowing a line from well-known GameStop backer Keith Gill, known as RoaringKitty.
\n
Another user posted, “I missed out on GME the first time, I’m not making that mistake again.
