That was especially good news for the growth-heavyNasdaq Composite(NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC), which was up more than 1% at midday on Friday.
\n
It isn't every day that you see aNasdaq stockdouble in value, but that happened on Friday. Below, we'll take a closer look atSupport.com(NASDAQ:SPRT)and what made it rise so much, along with examining some better-known stocks with more modest but still respectable gains on the day.
\n
Shares of Support.com soared more than 130% at midday on Friday. The move followed a better than40% rise for the fledgling software companyon Thursday, and reflects a combination of factors that once again show that retail investors are playing a major role in how individual stocks move.
\n
Support.com has historically sought to provide outsourced customer support functions for business customers, looking to serve industries across the economy with voice, chat, and self-serve customer service functions. Yet the company took an interest in the cryptocurrency arena earlier this year, announcing a merger with crypto mining company Greenidge Generation. That has linked the company's fortunes to those of the cryptocurrency market, and with prices of many of the most-followed crypto tokens having recovered substantially in recent weeks, Support.com has gained more attention.
\n
In fact, that heightened visibility from retail investors might well have spawned the big move higher for Support.com. Like many other stocks that retail investors have focused their efforts on lately, Support.com has a substantial following of institutional investors that are selling the stock short. That's reopened a playbook that individual investors have used on a number of occasions in 2021 to try to prompt a short squeeze, and that's a big part of why a stock that was priced at $2 per share as recently March is now sporting a share price 25 times that level currently.
\n
As market participants have learned from the experiences of companies likeAMC Entertainment HoldingsandGameStop, share prices can stay at elevated levels for a long time even when there are substantial challenges that their underlying fundamental businesses still have to overcome. Support.com's inconsistent profitability and falling revenue make it an unlikely candidate for a rebound, but that doesn't mean the stock won't keep soaring from here.
\n
A good day for growth stocks
\n
More broadly, growth investors reacted favorably to the Fed news. High-growth stocks benefit from the availability of cheap financing and the added value of future earnings from low interest rates, so the Fed's relatively dovish stance fits well with most of their business models. For instance,Coupa Software(NASDAQ:COUP)was up 6% early Friday afternoon, whileGoodRx Holdings(NASDAQ:GDRX)picked up 5%.
\n
Earnings also provided some boosts.Workday(NASDAQ:WDAY)climbed 10% after posting strong results on Thursday afternoon. Generally, software-as-a-service companies have fared well, and low rates help support the value of their recurring revenue far into the future as well.
\n
Smart investors should focus more on the long-term prospects for proven successful businesses than on companies with weak fundamentals getting attention for technical reasons. The same stocks that double in a day can get cut in half the next for no additional reason, but great companies can often generate huge returns that will benefit investors for years to come.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
This Unknown Nasdaq Stock Just Doubled Friday
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThis Unknown Nasdaq Stock Just Doubled Friday\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-30 14:31 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Yet there are better stocks to focus on.\n\nKey Points\n\nMarkets surged on the Fed's stance on monetary policy.\nSupport.com got a huge boost unrelated to fundamental business factors.\nOther high-growth ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/27/this-unknown-nasdaq-stock-just-doubled-friday/?source=eptyholnk0000202&utm_source=yahoo-host&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=article","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1175862316","content_text":"Yet there are better stocks to focus on.\n\nKey Points\n\nMarkets surged on the Fed's stance on monetary policy.\nSupport.com got a huge boost unrelated to fundamental business factors.\nOther high-growth stocks are better bets for the long run.\n\n\nMarkets moved sharply higher on Friday, as investors reacted favorably to positive comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the central bank's symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Is the sky starting to fall?
\n
It sure does look ugly out there. S&P 500 futures have declined 0.6% Thursday morning, indicating an opening loss of around 28 points, or 0.6%, for the index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), meanwhile, could be headed for a 237 point, or 0.7%, decline, per futures markets.
\n
If the losses hold, it would be the S&P 500’s third consecutive drop, the index’s longest losing streak since the three-day losing streak that ended on July 19. At this pace, the index would shed around 2.4% over a three-day period, also the worst since that July tumble.
\n
If you want reasons for the decline, well, there are plenty. Taper fears are at the top of the list, despite the fact that the Fed has been about as transparent about the fact that it will end its bond-buying program soon as it’s possible to be. (Can a big article in The Wall Street Journal with the headline “Fed Officials Weigh Ending Asset Purchases by Mid-2022” be any more obvious?)
\n
But history shows that markets react to changes in monetary policy—even when they know the change is coming, says Bleakley Advisory Group’s Peter Boockvar. “[We] have to be reminded of how stocks responded to EVERY SINGLE change in Fed policy towards tightening since 2010,” he writes. “Outside of the August 2015 selloff related to the Chinese yuan modest devaluation and the Covid induced crash, every notable correction in stocks surrounded a change Fed policy toward tightening.”
\n
Covid concerns continue to rise, whether its cases forcing shutdowns in New Zealand or reports that the vaccines aren’t as effective against the Delta variant as originally thought. Again, none of this is terribly new, but then again, the market chooses when it wants to react, not folks with a keyboard.
\n
If you listen to the thrum of the Street, though, you get the sense that the market has been due for a correction. There’s some truth to that. The S&P 500 has been more than 8% above its 200-day moving average for 198 days, the longest in 40 years and among the five longest stretches in history. These streaks are usually followed by a couple of months of choppy trading, with a median gain of just 0.3% over the following two months. “By the time it reached the current length, other super-strong trends saw buyers take a break,” writes Sundial Capital Research’s Jason Goepfert.
\n
Of course, it might just be August, says DataTrek’s Nicholas Colas. He notes that the S&P 500 typically has one 1% up or down move every week since 1957, but has had just three during the first seven weeks of the third quarter. August, because of its low volume and history of higher volatility would be a good time to catch up.
\n
That’s especially true with stocks starting to move together again. “[As] much as we like U.S. equities, we have to respect both the tape (suddenly higher correlations) and seasonality (late August volatility),” Colas writes. “Both tell us to be cautious over the next 2-3 weeks.”
\n
So buckle up. Investors today seem to be hedging their bets accordingly.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":403,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":894892702,"gmtCreate":1628815128406,"gmtModify":1676529862372,"author":{"id":"3577345324058629","authorId":"3577345324058629","name":"埃及妖后","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6cdcb0ed51686b3b151c75086b3f68a4","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577345324058629","authorIdStr":"3577345324058629"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy on dip","listText":"Buy on dip","text":"Buy on dip","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/894892702","repostId":"1108538845","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1108538845","pubTimestamp":1628811085,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1108538845?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-13 07:31","market":"us","language":"en","title":"ContextLogic EPS misses by $0.04, misses on revenue","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108538845","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"ContextLogic Inc. reported Q2 revenue of $656 million versus the consensus estimate of $722.92 milli","content":"
\n
ContextLogic Inc. reported Q2 revenue of $656 million versus the consensus estimate of $722.92 million.
\n
Adjusted EBITDA loss of $67M.
\n
Q2 GAAP EPS of -$0.18 misses by $0.04.
\n
Shares-7.4%.
\n
\n

\n
\n
“Wish has begun executing on initiatives designed to enhance the user experience and increase engagement on the Wish app following second-quarter results that did not meet our expectations,” said Wish Founder and CEO Piotr Szulczewski. “Our goal is to ensure that users love coming to Wish often for an entertaining shopping experience where they find unique products at affordable prices. He explained that the purpose behind the combination was to create a distribution structure for CBD and THC beverages once the legal situation had clarified.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":134,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":142974479,"gmtCreate":1626130668291,"gmtModify":1703753779814,"author":{"id":"3577345324058629","authorId":"3577345324058629","name":"埃及妖后","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6cdcb0ed51686b3b151c75086b3f68a4","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577345324058629","authorIdStr":"3577345324058629"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Clover Health Corp(CLOV)$Like for like plsThis to the moon","listText":"$Clover Health Corp(CLOV)$Like for like plsThis to the moon","text":"$Clover Health Corp(CLOV)$Like for like plsThis to the moon","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/142974479","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":68,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":156199703,"gmtCreate":1625200269102,"gmtModify":1703738234957,"author":{"id":"3577345324058629","authorId":"3577345324058629","name":"埃及妖后","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6cdcb0ed51686b3b151c75086b3f68a4","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577345324058629","authorIdStr":"3577345324058629"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Next is $clov","listText":"Next is $clov","text":"Next is $clov","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/156199703","repostId":"1133090424","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1133090424","pubTimestamp":1625195955,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1133090424?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-02 11:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Young Adults Are Taking Big Risks On AMC And GameStop?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1133090424","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Young traders entered the stock market in droves in the past year, many betting on popular meme stoc","content":"
Young traders entered the stock market in droves in the past year, many betting on popular meme stocks like GameStop Corp. and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc .
\n
These two financially challenged and relatively low-rated stocks are far from safe, blue-chip investments, and a new study by the University of Sydney School of Economics sheds some light on why young traders are willing to make such big bets on a pair of extremely risky stocks.
\n
YOLO Trading:One of the hallmarks of meme stock mania is that traders on Reddit, Twitter and elsewhere are posting screenshots of their \"YOLO trades\" and documenting their buys for the whole world to see. That's a historically low rate -- mainly thanks to the huge rally that investors have seen in the past year.
\n
But many individual stocks are much more generous with their payouts. Let's look at a few attractive dividend-paying stocks that deliver at least twice the market's average yield. Read on to see why PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS), IBM (NYSE:IBM), and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) all deserve a spot on your income watchlist.
\n

\n
\n
1. PepsiCo
\n
Pepsi is just a year away from reaching Dividend King status, which will apply after it raises its dividend for a 50th consecutive year in 2022. But income investors don't have to wait until then to own this diversified consumer foods giant.
\n
Pepsi's deep portfolio of snacks helped it post solid growth in 2020 despite pandemic-related demand slumps in the soda industry. Wall Street is worried about a modest profitability drop ahead as the company invests more in growth niches like energy drinks. But Pepsi is playing the long game, and cash it spends upgrading its supply chain should pay off for shareholders over time.
\n
2. IBM
\n
IBM boasts some attractive dividend metrics. It yields over 4%, and the IT giant has also raised its dividend in each of the last 25 years.
\n
There are some notable risks to be aware of, though. IBM is executing a spin-off right now that might threaten its overall payout. Sales growth has been hard to find recently, too, with revenue falling 2% in early 2021 after accounting for currency exchange shifts.
\n
Still, income investors will enjoy IBM's gushing cash flow and its large, stable business. You might be happy to collect an above-average dividend while waiting for big bets in areas like cloud services to deliver faster sales growth in the years to come.
\n
3. Pfizer
\n
Despite its central role in ending the COVID-19 pandemic, Pfizer stock has trailed the broader market over the past year. That situation has helped push its yield above 4%, though, in a welcome development for dividend fans.
\n
The biotech giant recently raised its growth outlook after sales jumped 42% in the first quarter. Besides its COVID-19 vaccine, which will require several more treatments over the next few years, other promising drugs include blood clot-fighting Eliquis, which grew sales by over 30% in early 2021.
\n
Sure, Pfizer isn't likely to see a repeat approaching anything close to the $26 billion it is expecting to book for the COVID-19 vaccine this year. But this dividend stock still has a lot to offer investors who want exposure to the biotech world.
\n
4. Hasbro
\n
There's plenty of room to grow in the toy niche -- if you're a dominant global player, that is. Hasbro has been cashing in on its leading position for years, through its mix of company-owned brands like Monopoly and Nerf and exclusive partnerships with giants like Disney. Growth in these areas allowed sales to rise 1% last quarter despite a 34% COVID-19-related slump in its TV division.
\n
Wall Street has acknowledged this good news by sending the stock higher over the past year. That's a historically low rate -- mainly thanks to the huge rally that investors have seen in the past year.\nBut many individual stocks are much more generous with their payouts. Let's look at a few attractive dividend-paying stocks that deliver at least twice the market's average yield. Read on to see why PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS), IBM (NYSE:IBM), and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) all deserve a spot on your income watchlist.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. PepsiCo\nPepsi is just a year away from reaching Dividend King status, which will apply after it raises its dividend for a 50th consecutive year in 2022. But income investors don't have to wait until then to own this diversified consumer foods giant.\nPepsi's deep portfolio of snacks helped it post solid growth in 2020 despite pandemic-related demand slumps in the soda industry. Wall Street is worried about a modest profitability drop ahead as the company invests more in growth niches like energy drinks. But Pepsi is playing the long game, and cash it spends upgrading its supply chain should pay off for shareholders over time.\n2. IBM\nIBM boasts some attractive dividend metrics. It yields over 4%, and the IT giant has also raised its dividend in each of the last 25 years.\nThere are some notable risks to be aware of, though. IBM is executing a spin-off right now that might threaten its overall payout. Sales growth has been hard to find recently, too, with revenue falling 2% in early 2021 after accounting for currency exchange shifts.\nStill, income investors will enjoy IBM's gushing cash flow and its large, stable business. You might be happy to collect an above-average dividend while waiting for big bets in areas like cloud services to deliver faster sales growth in the years to come.\n3. Pfizer\nDespite its central role in ending the COVID-19 pandemic, Pfizer stock has trailed the broader market over the past year. That situation has helped push its yield above 4%, though, in a welcome development for dividend fans.\nThe biotech giant recently raised its growth outlook after sales jumped 42% in the first quarter. Besides its COVID-19 vaccine, which will require several more treatments over the next few years, other promising drugs include blood clot-fighting Eliquis, which grew sales by over 30% in early 2021.\nSure, Pfizer isn't likely to see a repeat approaching anything close to the $26 billion it is expecting to book for the COVID-19 vaccine this year. But this dividend stock still has a lot to offer investors who want exposure to the biotech world.\n4. Hasbro\nThere's plenty of room to grow in the toy niche -- if you're a dominant global player, that is. Hasbro has been cashing in on its leading position for years, through its mix of company-owned brands like Monopoly and Nerf and exclusive partnerships with giants like Disney. Growth in these areas allowed sales to rise 1% last quarter despite a 34% COVID-19-related slump in its TV division.\nWall Street has acknowledged this good news by sending the stock higher over the past year. But investors can still get an almost 3% yield by owning its shares.\nIn mid-2021, prices are rising for many things, including stocks. But investors can still find attractive businesses to own that also happen to pay generous dividends.
