I was mostly interested not in his “hot takes” on the event, but in why the sell-side expert thinks that Apple shares are worth only $115 – representing 13% downside risk.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c8e4c7c9ed80330b554bb91087bf6ee0\" tg-width=\"1240\" tg-height=\"827\"><span>Figure 1: Apple's Spring Loaded event logo.</span></p>\n<p><b>Some bullishness first</b></p>\n<p>In its note, Wolfe Research presented what seemed to be positive reactions to Apple’s product refresh event of April 20. Here are some key observations from the analyst:</p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>The M1-equipped iMac</b>&nbsp;was a good surprise, since the last refresh had happened as recently as August 2020. I believe that,with the introduction of its new M1 chip&nbsp;and redesigned architecture, Apple will continue to accelerate product innovation.</li>\n <li><b>The iPad Pro</b>&nbsp;was also redesigned around the M1 silicon, rather than the traditional A-series chip. Once again, I see Apple looking for an edge in product innovation as a way to keep demand for its devices elevated in the post-pandemic period.</li>\n <li><b>The purple iPhone 12</b>&nbsp;was Apple’s first stand-alone, off-cycle smartphone. With&nbsp;the 12 mini allegedly struggling&nbsp;to find traction, maybe the Cupertino company saw an opportunity to increase entry-level iPhone sales by simply introducing a prettier-looking case.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The analyst summarized his main observations about Spring Loaded with this quote:</p>\n<blockquote>\n “M1 expansion, not new products, is our key positive takeaway.”\n</blockquote>\n<p><b>Why Apple stock could correct</b></p>\n<p>Now, on to the bear case. Wolfe’s argument for a 13% share price decline has nothing to do with Apple’s most recent product refresh cycle. Rather, the analyst justified bearishness as follows:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>“<i>Throughout the pandemic, Apple has blown away its consensus estimates; [yet, the stock] has underperformed the market by [about] 10% year to date</i>”. Wolfe is alluding to the fact that nothing else, from the perspective of financial performance, seems able to push Apple stock higher. In fact, shares have been down since January 2021 and flat since early-August 2020.</li>\n <li>“<i>Residual strength in the iPhone Pro and Pro Max due to channel inventory fill should ease heading into fiscal third quarter</i>”. In plain English, Wolfe seems to think that some of Apple’s recent sales growth may have been driven by inventory buildup at stores. As the stock of new higher-end iPhones decline, revenue growth should moderate.</li>\n <li>“<i>The Mac, iPad, and Services segments face stiff compares as Apple circles onto its first full quarter of pandemic comps</i>”. I think that a tough 2020 benchmark could, in fact, be a potential headwind, especially in the back half of fiscal 2021. How can Apple top iPad sales growth of 43% in last year’s holiday and pre-holiday quarters? The good news is that the Cupertino company has been aggressive at rolling out appealing new tablets and personal computers in the past few months.</li>\n <li>“<i>We [remain] apprehensive of the expectations embedded in Apples high multiple</i>”. To be fair, the stock’s valuations seem a bit stretched. I&nbsp;discussed the subject in more detail&nbsp;recently, concluding that:</li>\n</ul>\n<blockquote>\n “Apple’s rich multiples could find upside resistance from here. I was mostly interested not in his “hot takes” on the event, but in why the sell-side expert thinks that Apple shares are worth only $115 – representing 13% downside risk.\nFigure 1: Apple's Spring Loaded event logo.\nSome bullishness first\nIn its note, Wolfe Research presented what seemed to be positive reactions to Apple’s product refresh event of April 20. Here are some key observations from the analyst:\n\nThe M1-equipped iMac was a good surprise, since the last refresh had happened as recently as August 2020. I believe that,with the introduction of its new M1 chip and redesigned architecture, Apple will continue to accelerate product innovation.\nThe iPad Pro was also redesigned around the M1 silicon, rather than the traditional A-series chip. Once again, I see Apple looking for an edge in product innovation as a way to keep demand for its devices elevated in the post-pandemic period.\nThe purple iPhone 12 was Apple’s first stand-alone, off-cycle smartphone. With the 12 mini allegedly struggling to find traction, maybe the Cupertino company saw an opportunity to increase entry-level iPhone sales by simply introducing a prettier-looking case.\n\nThe analyst summarized his main observations about Spring Loaded with this quote:\n\n “M1 expansion, not new products, is our key positive takeaway.”\n\nWhy Apple stock could correct\nNow, on to the bear case. Wolfe’s argument for a 13% share price decline has nothing to do with Apple’s most recent product refresh cycle. Rather, the analyst justified bearishness as follows:\n\n“Throughout the pandemic, Apple has blown away its consensus estimates; [yet, the stock] has underperformed the market by [about] 10% year to date”. Wolfe is alluding to the fact that nothing else, from the perspective of financial performance, seems able to push Apple stock higher. I think that a tough 2020 benchmark could, in fact, be a potential headwind, especially in the back half of fiscal 2021. Mastercard had around 2.7 billion cards in circulation at the end of 2020 and handled 24.8 billion transactions in its latest quarter, showcasing the power of its global ecosystem.</p><p>The pandemic had negatively affected Mastercard in 2020, with revenue down 9% year over year and net income declining by 21% year over year. Despite the weaker results, the company provided a business update showing that transaction volume for the week ended Jan. 21 was actually up 2% year over year worldwide. The closure of borders and curtailment of air travel meant that cross-border transaction volumes remained at 70% of the level they were in the same period last year.</p><p>The company remains unshaken by this temporary decline, and it has been steadfast in building its capabilities through acquisitions and partnerships. In March, Mastercard formally completed its acquisition of the majority of the corporate services business of Nets, a European payments technology company. With interest rates at historic lows, stocks have become the go-to vehicle for investors seeking growth, and for companies seeking investors – the cohort conducting or contemplating IPOs – the partnership is natural. An IPO brings costs with it, in the form of compliance and disclosure rules – the market’s rapid gains outweigh them for the present.\nThis brings us to Goldman Sachs. The banking firm’s stock analysts have been looking for the equities primed to gain in current conditions. And just this week, they’ve tapped two stocks new to the public markets as likely to jump 60% or more in coming months – a solid return that investors should note. Compass boasts a 4% market share in the crowded residential segment; by comparison, competitor Redfin’s market share is 1%.\nLooking at Compass by the numbers paints an impressive picture. In its fiscal year 2020, Compass employed over 19,000 real estate agents, facilitated over 145,000 transactions with a total gross value of $152 billion, saw top-line revenues of $3.7 billion, and operated in 46 markets across 16 states.\nBased on that performance, on April 1, the company went public. Compass put 25 million shares of common stock on the market, at price of $18 each, and netted $450 million.\nAmong the bulls is Goldman analyst Michael Ng, who likes the fundamental of this newly public stock.\n“Compass is the largest independent U.S. real estate brokerage by gross transaction value (GTV) and differentiates itself from competing brokerages by providing its residential real estate agents with a first party, end-to-end platform for workflow and customer management, driving higher annual commissions for Compass agents over time. Compass targets the $2 trillion existing home sales addressable market in the US and, within that, ~$95 bn in annual real estate agent commissions,” the analyst wrote.\nGetting to the bottom line, Ng adds, “[We] believe that attractive valuation and adjacent services optionality create a positive risk-reward…”\nTo this end, Ng rates Compass shares a Buy along with a $32 price target. Investors stand to pocket ~79% gain should the analyst's thesis play out. The company has backing from Alibaba, and in the last three years has secured a 34% market share and over 219 million users, making it the largest charging service provider in China’s mobile device ecosystem.\nLarge market share in a large market has brought in the cash. The company’s revenue in 2020 hit 2.8 billion yuan, or $431 million at current exchange rates, and has spread out to encompass a network of 664,000 power bank rental spots across more than 1,500 of the country’s 2,846 counties and local districts. The user base expanded by 47% in 2020.\nSmart Share Global started trading on the NASDAQ on April 1, with the offering of 17.65 million shares to the public at an initial price of $8.50. The stock actually opened at $10, and closed that first day at $8.54, putting the total capital raised in the neighborhood of $150 million.\nAnalyst Ronald Keung, of Goldman Sachs, sees plenty of reasons to buy into Smart Share Global, and in his initiation report on the stock he lays them out.\n\"We like EM’s: (1) growing network effect, with an extensive national network of 5mn power banks at 664k POIs across 1,500cities (by YE2020), driving better user experience and brand recognition... (2) better-than-peer unit economics with the company picking POIs of high margin/monetization potential, thereby generating Rmb2 daily revenue per power bank, vs peers’Rmb1-1.5. Genuine Parts</h2>\n<p>You may know aftermarket auto parts retailer <b>Genuine Parts</b> (NYSE:GPC) better as the owner of NAPA Auto Parts stores. It has a long history of outperformance with sales growing in 87 of the last 93 years (last year being <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of those anomalies where revenue dropped, though for obvious reasons).</p>\n<p>Still, the long-term outlook remains not only positive, but quite upbeat. The auto industry was also hurt by the pandemic, which means people were buying new cars but keeping their rust buckets on the road longer and they'll need parts to keep them running.</p>\n<p>Worse for new car dealers, the computer chip shortage that's plaguing numerous industries, and the auto industry in particular, has manufacturers lowering expectations for production for the coming year. <b>Ford</b> just issued a fairly robust earnings report but its guidance that it expects production to fall by 1.1 million vehicles this year put a damper on its stock.</p>\n<p>Again, that means car owners will need to keep their current vehicles in good shape, so Genuine Parts will still be needed. And it's that constant ebb and flow of demand for people to fix their cars that has sustained the auto parts retailer over the past century, and will likely keep it motoring for at least another 100 years into the future. (Even if we're driving flying cars by then, owners will still need the parts to repair them.)</p>\n<p>One of the most attractive things about Genuine Parts, however, is its record of dividend payments. The company has paid investors a cash dividend every year since going public in 1928, and its payout this year of $3.26 per share represents the 65th consecutive year it increased the dividend, which currently yields 2.6% annually.</p>\n<h2>2. Leggett &amp; Platt</h2>\n<p>Robinhood's meme stock crowd would probably never pile into <b>Leggett &amp; Platt</b> (NYSE:LEG) because making innerspring coils for mattresses and sofas is not the sort of sexy play that pops up in internet chatrooms. Yet this study business has been around since 1883 and keeps chugging along largely out of view of the masses, but producing outsized returns for those in the know.</p>\n<p>Over the last 40 years, Leggett &amp; Platt has returned almost 10,600% for investors, compared to nearly 3,800% by the <b>S&amp;P 500</b>, meaning $10,000 invested in this oh-so-boring company at the start of 1980 would be worth well over $1 million today (the stock index would have generated $387,000 in the same time frame).</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9a359d21957cbcf9962e9b005b965fb7\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"435\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Data by YCharts.</p>\n<p>Leggett &amp; Platt has done that by sticking to its knitting, or rather its steel coils. It rarely extends far outside those operations, which account for half of its annual revenue, and when it does it tends to be in closely related fields.</p>\n<p>Beyond mattresses and sofas, the company supplies the auto and aerospace industries, furniture manufacturers, and flooring and textile businesses with products that are in some fashion closely related to its core components, such as mechanical and lumbar support for seats; steel mechanisms and motion hardware for chairs; and synthetic fabrics for ground stabilization, drainage protection, erosion, and weed control.</p>\n<p>Yet like Genuine Parts, Leggett &amp; Platt is also a longtime dividend payer, and it notes that maintaining its inclusion in the list of Dividend Aristocrat stocks, or those companies that have increased their shareholder payout for 25 consecutive years or more, is a high priority for the company.</p>\n<p>The dividend actually ranks second on its list of priorities after investing in organic growth, and with 49 straight years of dividend hikes, Leggett &amp; Platt is poised to become a Dividend King, or a company with 50 or more years of raising its payout (a much smaller elite group of stocks, of which Genuine Parts is also a member).</p>\n<p>Because it is a conservatively run business in a fairly conservative industry, there's little reason why it shouldn't be able to keep going as it has for many years to come, and that's why Leggett &amp; In the first half of 2020, salesforce controlled 19.8% of all global CRM revenue, according to IDC. Comparatively, the next four companies behind it in global share don't add up to 19.8%.</p>\n<p>Salesforce is also in the midst of acquiring enterprise communications platform <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WORK\">Slack Technologies</a></b>&nbsp;for $27.7 billion in a cash and stock deal. U.S. cannabis multistate operator (MSO) <b>Cresco Labs</b> (OTC:CRLBF) has all the tools necessary to deliver a 300% or greater gain for investors by 2030.</p>\n<p>Like other MSOs, Cresco has a burgeoning retail segment. It has 24 operational stores at the moment, with an additional five retail licenses in its back pocket. However, it has two pending acquisitions that'll bolster the total number of retail stores it can eventually open to closer to four dozen.</p>\n<p>What's interesting about Cresco's retail presence is that it's chosen a number of states where license issuance is limited. It's maxed out its retail footprint in Illinois and Ohio with 10 and five stores, respectively. By choosing states where license issuance is limited, Cresco is assuring itself a healthy share of cannabis revenue.</p>\n<p>However, the real allure of Cresco is its wholesale operations. As one of only a handful of companies with a cannabis distribution license in California, it's able to place its proprietary and third-party products into more than 575 dispensaries throughout the state. With people stuck in their homes, they turned to social media for engagement. For Pinterest, this resulted in 124 million net new monthly active users (MAU), representing a 37% increase. Understand, though, that Pinterest's MAUs grew by an average of 30% annually in the three years preceding the pandemic.</p>\n<p>What makes Pinterest such a growth powerhouse is its allure outside the United States. On one hand, the average revenue it generates per user is a lot lower outside the U.S. Then again, this also gives the company the opportunity to double its average revenue per international user many times over this decade.</p>\n<p>Additionally, few if any social media platforms provide a more targeted audience to advertisers than Pinterest. This is a platform where users willingly post about the things, services, and places that interest them. It's been over a quarter of a century since spending on companion pets declined on a year-over-year basis. Time and again, pet owners have shown their willingness to spend freely to keep their four-legged friends happy and healthy. That's where BarkBox comes in.</p>\n<p>BarkBox is a technology-driven dog-focused company that's amassed 1.1 million subscribers, and its gross margins are north of 60%. It's recently been registering its highest monthly \"product retention\" rate since inception and has forecast a near doubling in sales between 2021 and 2023 to more than $700 million. In short, it's one of the fastest-growing pet stocks, yet is valued at one of the lowest sales multiples.</p>\n<p>BarkBox is also using innovation to drive sales growth.
