VXX typically sees large price increase when the S&amp;P500 tanks. However, most of the time it slowly but surely drops in price. Take a look at a long-term chart and you’ll see what I mean.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5a898da51c0e93038159089f99cb1e36\" tg-width=\"840\" tg-height=\"470\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>As traders, we can also use VXX options to place trades that benefit from either rising or falling volatility.</p><h3>Buying VXX Call Options To Protect Against A Volatility Spike</h3><p>Some traders will buy VXX call options as a method of protecting against rising volatility. Let’s look at a couple of different examples.</p><p>A long call option trade gives the buyer of the option the right to purchase a certain stock at a certain price (strike price) up until a certain date (expiration date).</p><p>Suppose an investor is worried about a market drop and associated volatility spike between now and mid-September.</p><p>The investor could purchase a VXX September 16 call option with a strike price of 23. This call option contract was trading around $1.09 meaning the investor would need to pay $109 to purchase the call option.</p><p>The maximum loss is limited to the premium paid, which in this case is $109. The maximum loss would occur if VXX closes below 23 on September 16. The breakeven price is 24.30 which is calculated by taking the strike price and adding the premium paid.</p><p>The maximum potential gain is unlimited.</p><p>Savvy traders can further reduce the risk by selling an out-of-the-money call, turning the trade into a bull call spread.</p><p>For example, selling the September 16, 26 call would reduce the trade cost by around $80 but would also limit the upside above 26.</p><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Using VXX options can be simple and cheap way to buy some protection against a sharp selloff in stocks between now and September. The trade can be placed relatively cheaply at $130 for the long call or just $50 for the bull call spread.</p><p>While it is important to keep in mind that it may take a fairly large volatility spike to see VXX jump above 23, for a low cost, this particular option trade could help you sleep easier at night.</p><p>VXX and VXX options behave differently to regular ETF’s and options, so it is vital that any trader using this product fully understands the risks involved. Let’s look at a couple of different examples.A long call option trade gives the buyer of the option the right to purchase a certain stock at a certain price (strike price) up until a certain date (expiration date).Suppose an investor is worried about a market drop and associated volatility spike between now and mid-September.The investor could purchase a VXX September 16 call option with a strike price of 23. This call option contract was trading around $1.09 meaning the investor would need to pay $109 to purchase the call option.The maximum loss is limited to the premium paid, which in this case is $109. The maximum loss would occur if VXX closes below 23 on September 16. The breakeven price is 24.30 which is calculated by taking the strike price and adding the premium paid.The maximum potential gain is unlimited.Savvy traders can further reduce the risk by selling an out-of-the-money call, turning the trade into a bull call spread.For example, selling the September 16, 26 call would reduce the trade cost by around $80 but would also limit the upside above 26.ConclusionUsing VXX options can be simple and cheap way to buy some protection against a sharp selloff in stocks between now and September. In all, Apple rolled out the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 7, and an upgraded iPad and iPad mini.</p>\n<p>“We believe the biggest takeaways are AAPL’s pricing strategy, which remains unchanged across all product categories, as well as availability of devices on 9/24,” Zino says.</p>\n<p>It’s not particularly inspiring to hear that the major takeaways from a tech product launch event are the pricing and the availability date.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ISBC\">Investors</a> can find all the specs of the new devices online. As Zino highlights, there were no major aesthetic changes to any devices. Instead, this generation of Apple devices includes things like longer battery life, faster charging, more storage and improved camera systems.</p>\n<p>I doubt there’s anything in that group of features that was mind-blowing to Apple customers. Zino says the new product lineup is good enough to get the job done.</p>\n<p>“Given timing release, AAPL appears on pace to exceed Sep-Q and Dec-Q consensus expectations, but we acknowledge a tough bar starting in the Mar-Q,” he says.</p>\n<p>CFRA has a “buy” rating and $160 price target for AAPL stock.</p>\n<p><b>Why The Negative Reaction?</b></p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/BAC\">Bank of America</a> analyst Wamsi Mohan says the technology in the new products is impressive. But Apple always has impressive technology. That doesn’t necessarily mean AAPL stock is a good investment.</p>\n<p>“Product announcements today are incremental, and we view consensus expectations of roughly flat iPhone unit and [average sales prices] for F22 as unlikely to materialize vs. our 241mn/210mn [estimates] for iPhones in F21/F22 despite ongoing carrier incentives,” Mohan says.</p>\n<p>To make matters worse, Mohan says waning stimulus benefits will push this generation’s iPhone sales mix down toward the lower end of the price scale. In addition, he says fiscal 2021 iPad revenue of around $30 billion is about 50% higher than Apple’s typical iPad revenue. Mohan speculates that jump may be due to Covid-19 pandemic pull-in of sales that typically would have happened in fiscal 2022. That phenomenon could be very bad news for iPhone comps in the next several quarters.</p>\n<p>Finally, Mohan says AAPL stock faces external pressures as well.</p>\n<p>“Regulatory issues (Epic Games and Google) could create a headwind to the valuation multiple in the near term as investors recalibrate the risk to Services growth trajectory,” he says.</p>\n<p>Bank of America has a “neutral” rating and $160 price target for AAPL stock.</p>\n<p><b>No Easy Money In AAPL Stock</b></p>\n<p>One thing I noticed about the two analyst reactions to the iPhone event were their price targets. To me, that’s a perfect representation of the lukewarm attitude many analysts and investors have toward AAPL stock and the new iPhone. Even bulls aren’t particularly excited.</p>\n<p>AAPL stock isn’t the value play it once was. Its earnings multiple has more than doubled in the past five years to 29.1x. The iPhone 13 isn’t going to move the needle. But it’s likely not going to be a disaster either.</p>\n<p>The easy money in AAPL stock was likely made long ago. If you’re looking for a stock that’s going to leave the<b>S&amp;P 500</b>in the dust, Apple isn’t it. Namely, investors have been closely watching for months to hear when officials will begin tapering their purchases of Treasury and mortgage securities, which have been taking place at a pace of $120 billion per month for more than a year during the pandemic.</p>\n<p>This asset purchase program had been a major policy underpinning U.S. equity markets this year, providing liquidity throughout the economic crisis induced by the virus. But as the economy makes headway in recovering, Fed officials' talk around pulling in the reins on this program has started to increase.</p>\n<p>Last week, Federal Reserve officials signaled the announcement of the start of tapering was edging closer. According to the meeting minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting, most monetary policymakers believed the economy will have made enough progress toward recovering to warrant tapering.</p>\n<p>\"Most participants noted that, provided that the economy were to evolve broadly as they anticipated, they judged that it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year because they saw the Committee’s 'substantial further progress' criterion as satisfied with respect to the price-stability goal and as close to being satisfied with respect to the maximum employment goal,\" according to the FOMC minutes.</p>\n<p>But as many pundits have noted, the central bank still has a host of meetings left in 2021 to serve as a platform for further discussing or announcing tapering. As a result, Jackson Hole this week may cause few ripples, with policymakers like Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell sticking to their previously telegraphed language about waiting to see further improvements in the labor market before escalating talk of tapering further.</p>\n<p>\"Jackson Hole next week is certainly a target for when we might hear some actual firm language around taper. I'm not really expecting much out of Jackson Hole,\" Garrett Melson, Natixis Investment Managers Solutions portfolio strategist, told Yahoo Finance last week. \"We're more in the camp that we probably start to hear something around the November meeting. Perhaps they're as quick as December to start actually implementing the taper. Furthermore, hosts and co-hosts will be able to limit the number of users who can share screens, send messages, and mute others.</p>\n<p><b>An Affordable Smartphone</b></p>\n<p>Let’s face it: not everyone is ready to buy a $1,200 smartphone.</p>\n<p>At the same time, people want high quality. New jobless claims are down more than 50% since January.</p>\n<p>Stock markets have hit turbulence this week after eking out a series of record highs. Investors broadly remain upbeat about the outlook for share prices, given the rapid pace of earnings growth. The yield on 10-year Treasury notes slid to 1.242% from 1.273% Wednesday.
