the S&P 500 gained 0.74 points, or 0.02%, at 4,227.26; and the Nasdaq Composite added 43.19 points, or 0.31%, at 13,924.91.Of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, consumer discretionary enjoyed the biggest percentage gain, and utilities suffered the largest loss.Sales of Tesla Inc’s China-made electric cars jumped in May by 29%, marking a 177% year-on-year increase, according to the China Passenger Car Association. The stock erased initial gains on the news to close down 0.3%.Boeing Co shares were boosted by Southwest Airlines’ announcement that it had ordered 34 new 737 MAX aircraft, but the planemaker’s shares pared gains to end the session flat.GameStop, the company most closely associated with the Reddit-driven short squeeze phenomenon, is expected to report quarterly results after markets close on Wednesday.Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the NYSE by a 1.74-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.66-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted 54 new 52-week highs and one new low; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 172 new highs and 16 new lows.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 11.82 billion shares, compared with the 10.75 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":186,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":133341467,"gmtCreate":1621718603059,"gmtModify":1704361630321,"author":{"id":"3581591015314710","authorId":"3581591015314710","name":"Ljoney","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8376cac12c1b661feac4d507eb1379e4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581591015314710","authorIdStr":"3581591015314710"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice, like j comment","listText":"Nice, like j comment","text":"Nice, like j comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/133341467","repostId":"1174075999","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1174075999","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1621607834,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1174075999?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-21 22:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto stocks tumbled again on China's crackdown on bitcoin mining and trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1174075999","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Cryptocurrencies have fallen,Bitcoin fell below $38000 per coin, down 6.65% in the day;while Ethereum fell below $2500 per coin, down more than 14%.In a statement from Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and the State Council, authorities said tighter regulation is needed to protect the financial system. The statement, released late Friday in China time, said it is necessary to \"crack down on Bitcoin mining and trading behavior, and resolutely prevent the transmission of individual risks to the social fi","content":"
Crypto stocks tumbled again on China's crackdown on bitcoin mining and trading.

Cryptocurrencies have fallen,Bitcoin fell below $38000 per coin, down 6.65% in the day;while Ethereum fell below $2500 per coin, down more than 14%.

In a statement from Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and the State Council, authorities said tighter regulation is needed to protect the financial system.

The statement, released late Friday in China time, said it is necessary to \"crack down on Bitcoin mining and trading behavior, and resolutely prevent the transmission of individual risks to the social field.\"

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Last March, again in 2020 as the pandemic took hold, we pared back menu basically to hotdogs and pizza and soda and smoothies, and we eliminated all seating, those takeout only. We began several weeks ago adding back tables and seating and — at a handful of outdoor food courts in a few states,\" Costco CFO Richard Galanti told analysts on an earnings call Thursday evening.Galanti explained Costco is bringing back popular menu items while also reconfiguring seating arrangements for diners.\"Over the past few months, we've also added back a few more food items, including bringing back a new and improved churros, which will be at all U.S. locations by the 4th of July, and adding a high-end soft ice cream to replace our frozen yogurt. And by June 7, we plan to have tables in seating back at most locations, but with more physical separation, tables of 4 instead of 6 and 8 and about half the seating capacity as we had before. Again, these are still subject to doing this in waves and see how it goes and subject to any additional state rules or restrictions in a few cases,\" Galanti said.Free food samples — another long-time favorite of Costco shoppers — will also be returning soon at 170 stores, Galanti confirmed.Even without its beloved food courts back to full operation, Costco crushed analyst estimates for the most recent quarter as shoppers continued stock up for work-for-home life amidst the pandemic. Worldwide customer store traffic rose an impressive 12.9%, and 11.9% in the U.S. alone. Costco's worldwide membership renewal rate remained relatively unchanged compared to last year at 88.4%.Here is how Costco performed versus Wall Street estimates for its fiscal third quarter:Net Sales: $45.3 billion vs. $43.5 billionSame-Store Sales: +20.6% vs. +16%Operating Profits: $1.66 billion vs. $1.41 billionDiluted EPS: $2.75 vs. $2.33Analysts stayed upbeat.\"Fiscal third quarter results reinforce our view that Costco is exiting COVID with a larger and higher quality member base that will support elevated compound returns for years to come,\" said Jefferies analyst Stephanie Wissink in a research note to clients.Wissink reiterated a Buy rating on Costco with a $445 price target.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":157,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":376292147,"gmtCreate":1619129264989,"gmtModify":1704719959504,"author":{"id":"3581591015314710","authorId":"3581591015314710","name":"Ljoney","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8376cac12c1b661feac4d507eb1379e4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581591015314710","authorIdStr":"3581591015314710"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Up n coming topic","listText":"Up n coming topic","text":"Up n coming topic","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/376292147","repostId":"1194377792","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1194377792","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619106065,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1194377792?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-22 23:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Fund Draws $29.4M in 2 Weeks, Filings Show","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1194377792","media":"CoinDesk","summary":"Morgan Stanley’s new bitcoin product is already one of the largest funds of its kind by investor cou","content":"
Morgan Stanley’s new bitcoin product is already one of the largest funds of its kind by investor count.

Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman(Christinne Muschi/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

One of Morgan Stanley’s new bitcoin-only private funds raised $29.4 million from 322 investors in its first 14 days, according to regulatory documents published Thursday.

Managed by FS Investments with NYDIG custodying the bitcoin, the fund is one of two new bitcoin investment vehicles offered by newly-bullish Morgan Stanley. Please note the risks.

Thesis

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) heads into its highly-anticipated FQ2'23 (quarter ended September 30) earnings release on November 17, even as it held back from reporting actual sales figures for its 2022 Singles' Day (11.11) sales event for the first time.

Alibaba reported that its 11.11 event "[delivered GMV] for brands in line with [2021] despite economic and COVID-related headwinds." Notably, Alibaba reported a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RMB540.3B for 2021's 11.11 event.

Therefore, all eyes will be on CEO Daniel Zhang & team on November 17, as Bloomberg had reported earlier that Alibaba's 11.11 event "may suffer a decline unprecedented in the event's 14-year history."

Despite that, BABA has outperformed the S&P 500 (SPX) (SP500) since we upgraded it to Strong Buy in our previous article. Moreover, BABA's recent recovery was bolstered by the anticipation of a progressive easing of COVID policy. As such, the positive reaction by the market was not surprising.

We discuss why we glean that the mean reversion move for BABA remains attractive at the current levels. Despite the massive pessimism seen as investors further de-rated China's political risks, BABA's price action remains constructive. Coupled with a well-beaten-down valuation in line with its Hong Kong tech peers, we assess that BABA's reward/risk profile remains attractive.

Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term price target (PT) of $90.

Refinement Of China's COVID Policy Is Good Progress

China lifted the market's sentiments last week as the newly installed Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) highlighted the need for "more decisive" measures, as Bloomberg reported:

In a meeting of the new Politburo Standing Committee, the members called for more decisive measures to curb the spread of the virus so as to resume normal life and production as soon as possible, according to the Xinhua News Agency. - Bloomberg

Therefore the "20 measures" rolled out by China's State Council and National Health Commission that reduced centralized quarantine time and flight suspension penalties were not expected by the market. Moreover, it occurred while COVID cases continued rising. Bloomberg reported that China's COVID cases increased to 11.3K on Friday (November 11), breaking above 10K for the first time since April on Thursday.

Furthermore, some cities actually reduced mass testing despite the rising cases. Hence, we believe the odds for a progressive ending in COVID zero are increasingly likely.

Still, investors should not rule out Beijing tightening its COVID policy again if COVID cases continue to rise higher, or even spike. China has maintained that the recent measures do not indicate that China has moved to living with the virus. Stamping out COVID expeditiously remains the guiding principle of its policy measures. As such, investors should expect near-term downside volatility if Beijing tightens further.

What's Next For Alibaba?

Alibaba Revenue change % and Adjusted EBITDA change % consensus estimates (S&P Cap IQ)

Therefore, we think the thesis for a bottoming in Alibaba's revenue and profitability growth by FY23 (year ending March 2023) is increasingly likely.

China's hand has likely been forced by the worsening global macroeconomic headwinds that has added significant stress to its domestic malaise. Moreover, China's trade surplus weakened further in October as exports fell for the first time since May 2020, down 0.3% YoY.

Furthermore, China's producer price index (PPI) declined 1.3% YoY in October, down for the first time in over two years. Hence, the disinflation signals are building up in China's economy, likely spurring policymakers to act more urgently to arrest China's economic malaise.

Therefore, while Alibaba may report a relatively tepid or even lower-than-project FQ2 earnings release, the market is already looking ahead. While still early, Goldman Sachs had previously highlighted that it expected a reopening in the "second quarter of [2023]." Therefore, we believe Wall Street's estimates have been predicated on such a possibility.

Given that China has already started to set the wheels in motion, despite the surge in COVID cases, we believe the reward/risk for an earlier exit is likely pointing to the upside.

Is BABA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?

BABA price chart (weekly) (TradingView)

We emphasized in our previous update that BABA has two robust support zones that could see buyers defending vigorously against further selling pressure.

Therefore, even after the market forced sellers to give up after it broke below its March lows, buyers came in to defend its October 2015 levels ($57). That level appears to have been defended resolutely, which suggests that the market pulled the rug on weak holders who added the dips in March/May 2022.

Notwithstanding, we still need BABA to retake its March level and sit above it decisively for our thesis of a mean-reversion setup toward the $95 level to play out accordingly.

With China moving progressively away from its zero COVID strategy, we believe the potential for Alibaba to outperform the markedly downgraded consensus projections is looking increasingly likely.

Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term PT of $90.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Please note the risks.ThesisAlibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) heads into its highly-anticipated FQ2'23 (quarter ended September 30) earnings release on November 17, even as it held back from reporting actual sales figures for its 2022 Singles' Day (11.11) sales event for the first time.Alibaba reported that its 11.11 event \"[delivered GMV] for brands in line with [2021] despite economic and COVID-related headwinds.\" Notably, Alibaba reported a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RMB540.3B for 2021's 11.11 event. Therefore, all eyes will be on CEO Daniel Zhang & team on November 17, as Bloomberg had reported earlier that Alibaba's 11.11 event \"may suffer a decline unprecedented in the event's 14-year history.\"Despite that, BABA has outperformed the S&P 500 (SPX) (SP500) since we upgraded it to Strong Buy in our previous article. Coupled with a well-beaten-down valuation in line with its Hong Kong tech peers, we assess that BABA's reward/risk profile remains attractive.Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term price target (PT) of $90.Refinement Of China's COVID Policy Is Good ProgressChina lifted the market's sentiments last week as the newly installed Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) highlighted the need for \"more decisive\" measures, as Bloomberg reported:In a meeting of the new Politburo Standing Committee, the members called for more decisive measures to curb the spread of the virus so as to resume normal life and production as soon as possible, according to the Xinhua News Agency. - BloombergTherefore the \"20 measures\" rolled out by China's State Council and National Health Commission that reduced centralized quarantine time and flight suspension penalties were not expected by the market. Moreover, it occurred while COVID cases continued rising. Bloomberg reported that China's COVID cases increased to 11.3K on Friday (November 11), breaking above 10K for the first time since April on Thursday.Furthermore, some cities actually reduced mass testing despite the rising cases. Hence, we believe the odds for a progressive ending in COVID zero are increasingly likely.Still, investors should not rule out Beijing tightening its COVID policy again if COVID cases continue to rise higher, or even spike. China has maintained that the recent measures do not indicate that China has moved to living with the virus. Stamping out COVID expeditiously remains the guiding principle of its policy measures. As such, investors should expect near-term downside volatility if Beijing tightens further. What's Next For Alibaba?Alibaba Revenue change % and Adjusted EBITDA change % consensus estimates (S&P Cap IQ)Therefore, we think the thesis for a bottoming in Alibaba's revenue and profitability growth by FY23 (year ending March 2023) is increasingly likely.China's hand has likely been forced by the worsening global macroeconomic headwinds that has added significant stress to its domestic malaise. Moreover, China's trade surplus weakened further in October as exports fell for the first time since May 2020, down 0.3% YoY.Furthermore, China's producer price index (PPI) declined 1.3% YoY in October, down for the first time in over two years. Hence, the disinflation signals are building up in China's economy, likely spurring policymakers to act more urgently to arrest China's economic malaise. Therefore, while Alibaba may report a relatively tepid or even lower-than-project FQ2 earnings release, the market is already looking ahead. While still early, Goldman Sachs had previously highlighted that it expected a reopening in the \"second quarter of [2023].\" Therefore, we believe Wall Street's estimates have been predicated on such a possibility.Given that China has already started to set the wheels in motion, despite the surge in COVID cases, we believe the reward/risk for an earlier exit is likely pointing to the upside. Is BABA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?BABA price chart (weekly) (TradingView)We emphasized in our previous update that BABA has two robust support zones that could see buyers defending vigorously against further selling pressure. Therefore, even after the market forced sellers to give up after it broke below its March lows, buyers came in to defend its October 2015 levels ($57). That level appears to have been defended resolutely, which suggests that the market pulled the rug on weak holders who added the dips in March/May 2022.Notwithstanding, we still need BABA to retake its March level and sit above it decisively for our thesis of a mean-reversion setup toward the $95 level to play out accordingly. With China moving progressively away from its zero COVID strategy, we believe the potential for Alibaba to outperform the markedly downgraded consensus projections is looking increasingly likely.Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term PT of $90.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":58,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9085370875,"gmtCreate":1650665231428,"gmtModify":1676534771333,"author":{"id":"3581591015314710","authorId":"3581591015314710","name":"Ljoney","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8376cac12c1b661feac4d507eb1379e4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581591015314710","authorIdStr":"3581591015314710"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Zepp Health Corporation(ZEPP)$Let go","listText":"$Zepp Health Corporation(ZEPP)$Let go","text":"$Zepp Health Corporation(ZEPP)$Let go","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/8555826a7529a3ad3d2c171dcc6ba262","width":"1125","height":"2674"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9085370875","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":136,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":139291672,"gmtCreate":1621634112796,"gmtModify":1704360710124,"author":{"id":"3581591015314710","authorId":"3581591015314710","name":"Ljoney","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8376cac12c1b661feac4d507eb1379e4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581591015314710","authorIdStr":"3581591015314710"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like n comment ","listText":"Like n comment ","text":"Like n comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/139291672","repostId":"2137906121","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2137906121","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1621611396,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2137906121?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-21 23:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2137906121","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Berkshire Hathaway has continued to reduce its stakes in banks.","content":"
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, Warren Buffett, made during the period. As has been the case for most of the past year, Buffett was active in the financial sector, mostly reducing Berkshire Hathaway's positions in banks. At the company's annual investor day earlier this month, Buffett provided some explanation for all the stock selling he's done in that sector.
\n
\"I like banks generally,\" he said, \"I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten.\"
\n
Let's review the three big changes Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway made to their bank holdings in the first quarter.
\n
\n
1. All but eliminating Wells Fargo
\n
Everyone knew it was coming, but Buffett all but made it official last quarter, nearly eliminating his position in his onetime favorite bank, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). Berkshire Hathaway sold 51.7 million shares, dropping its stake to a mere 675,000 shares valued at $26.3 million.
\n
This essentially ends what was an epic run for the Oracle of Omaha and Wells Fargo. Buffett first purchased shares in the large U.S. bank in 1989, and by 1994, he had acquired more than 13% of its outstanding shares. At the end of the third quarter of 2019, before the pandemic, Buffett's stake, which had a rough original cost basis of just below $9 billion, was worth close to $20 billion. And at one point back in 2017, it was reportedly worth as much as $29 billion.
\n
But as the fallout of Wells Fargo's phony accounts scandal and other revelations about its consumer abuses continued to play out, Buffett began to lose faith in the institution and started trimming his position. It looks like Buffett ultimately ended up making much less on his Wells Fargo investment than he could have, considering he sold more than 323 million shares between the end of Q1 2020 and the end of Q1 2021. During that 12-month period, the bank's shares traded from a low of $21.45 to a high of $39.07. At the end of 2019, they traded north of $53.
\n
The stock closed at $45.73 on Thursday, and many investors still believe Wells Fargo is undervalued these days, trading at 135% tangible book value (equity minus intangible assets and goodwill). Bank valuations have shot up in recent months, and Wells Fargo in particular could see more tailwinds when the Federal Reserve lifts the $1.95 trillion asset cap that the bank has been operating under since 2018.
\n
2. Dumping Synchrony Financial
\n
Last quarter, Berkshire Hathaway also eliminated its entire stake in the consumer finance credit card company Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), selling its 21.1 million shares. Synchrony uses what it calls a \"partner-centric\" business model under which it teams up with leading retailers and digital brands that promote Synchrony's credit cards. Consumers can get deals on specific purchases by opening Synchrony credit cards, which are often branded under a retailer's name.
\n
While I wouldn't say I saw this move coming, it doesn't entirely surprise me. Over the last year, Buffett has become even more selective about which banks he wants to own. He seems to be picking a winner or two in each banking industry subcategory -- for instance, he sold his stake in America's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, and loaded up on America's second-largest bank, Bank of America.
\n
Considering that Buffett already has a huge position in American Express, and loves the brand, that is likely going to be his pick for a credit-card-focused holding. Berkshire Hathaway likely made a good profit on that Synchrony investment, though, considering that the stock hit its highest level ever during Q1.
\n
3. Trimming U.S. Bancorp again
\n
Berkshire Hathaway also sold about 1.45 million shares of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) in the first quarter -- but it still owns nearly 129.7 million shares. The Oracle of Omaha has sold small quantities of shares of the Minnesota-based regional bank a few times over the last year, and it's a bit unclear why. It does appear that he has made U.S. Bancorp his regional bank pick, though. He sold off his other regional bank holdings, including his stakes in PNC Financial Services Group and M&T Bank, in the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
One possible explanation relates to Buffett's well-known desire to keep his stakes in those banks below 10%, so he can avoid the additional reporting requirements that a higher ownership level would trigger. At the end of the first quarter, Buffett owned about 8.7% of U.S. Bancorp's outstanding shares. So his stock sale may have simply been a move to prepare for the bank's planned share repurchases, which should accelerate later this year. Last quarter's adjustment should maintain Berkshire Hathaway's stake at a level comfortably under the 10% threshold, even after U.S. Bancorp's total share count is reduced.
\n
Overall, I still feel confident that Buffett plans to stick with U.S. Bancorp, although I will continue to watch his moves in upcoming quarters to see if he further reduces his stake in it.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-21 23:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"USB":"美国合众银行","BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","WFC":"富国银行","BRK.A":"伯克希尔","SYF":"Synchrony Financial"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/05/21/here-are-the-3-bank-moves-warren-buffett-has-made/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2137906121","content_text":"Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, Warren Buffett, made during the period. Last quarter's adjustment should maintain Berkshire Hathaway's stake at a level comfortably under the 10% threshold, even after U.S. Bancorp's total share count is reduced. \nOverall, I still feel confident that Buffett plans to stick with U.S. Bancorp, although I will continue to watch his moves in upcoming quarters to see if he further reduces his stake in it.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":91,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3568230509761996","authorId":"3568230509761996","name":"AndreR93","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/96d3de091542c3cf445343cfbe260aeb","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3568230509761996","authorIdStr":"3568230509761996"},"content":"Reply pls","text":"Reply pls","html":"Reply pls"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":375326453,"gmtCreate":1619310806972,"gmtModify":1704722211647,"author":{"id":"3581591015314710","authorId":"3581591015314710","name":"Ljoney","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8376cac12c1b661feac4d507eb1379e4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581591015314710","authorIdStr":"3581591015314710"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment n like","listText":"Comment n like","text":"Comment n like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/375326453","repostId":"1166519043","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1166519043","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619192700,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1166519043?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-23 23:45","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Stock Split: Will It Happen Again?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1166519043","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Tesla not only has to contend with pure-play EV-makers. Some estimates implied that Tesla would take a lion's share of the EV market despite the rapid increase in the number of competitors.
\n
By 2025, Tesla not only has to contend with pure-play EV-makers. It will also face new entrants such as Apple Inc. (AAPL) as well as Chinese smartphone giants Huawei and Xiaomi Corporation (OTC:XIACF)(OTCPK:XIACY). More traditional automakers will also be producing electric vehicles, even as they continue to churn out internal combustion engine-based cars.
\n
Even if the demand side is plausible, it would mean Tesla, Inc. needs to build many more factories. Given the effusive praise we have heard from Elon Musk regarding the speed of factory construction and on China in general, we could expect additional new plants to be cited in the populous country. That could add more geopolitical risks to the stock, as SA author John Engle argued.
\n
Then again, as many readers on Seeking Alpha, analysts, and Cathie Wood have postulated, Tesla's true potential lies in a future rollout of an autonomous ride-hailing fleet. Consequently, Tesla's revenue is projected to rise from $31.54 billion in 2020 to a whopping $388.52 billion on a consensus basis in 2030. That would bring the price-to-sales ratio to a mere 1.84 times on a forward basis.
\n
Source: Seeking Alpha Premium
\n
If Tesla did not disappoint the most bullish of the optimists forecasting its revenue to hit $600.7 billion in 2030, its P/S ratio would drop even lower to 1.19 times! You might say, all that sales are wonderful but what does their profitability look like? Well, the analysts believe TSLA would make boatloads of money. The consensus EPS estimate for 2030 is $33.48, a massive jump from the $0.64 it achieved in 2020. If the 2030 EPS estimate is realized, those earnings at today's price would reflect a ratio of 22.2 times, which could be seen as incredibly low.
\n
Source: Seeking Alpha Premium
\n
With EV sales projected by industry consultancy Canalys to remain below 50 percent of the total car sales by 2030, there remains significant growth potential for Tesla to increase its revenue. As such, assuming the analysts are correct, the share price of TSLA will not stay at the present level for the P/S ratio to be just 1.84 times and the P/E ratio at 22.2 times, the share price of TSLA would rise further than where it stands today.
\n

\n
Tesla stock split history: What was Tesla's stock price before the recent split?
\n
In other words, Tesla's share price would continue to rise over the next five to ten years. With that in mind, the question is, will TSLA split again? Before discussing that, let's review Tesla's previous split.
\n
On August 11, 2020, Tesla announced, after the market closed, that its board approved a five-for-one split of shares to \"make stock ownership more accessible to employees and investors.\" This marked Tesla's first-ever split announcement. The stock jumped from a pre-split price of $1374.4 to as high as $1585 the next day before closing at $1554.75. TSLA went on to clock further gains the rest of the month, appreciating over 80 percent by the end of August 2020.
\n

\n
How did Tesla's most recent stock split affect share prices?
\n
Interestingly, after the split was affected, Tesla stock lost much of the August gains in just a few trading sessions in early September. The share price decline was speculated by some to be due to shareholders paring their holdings since the split had resulted in them holding more TSLA shares. This seems logical as the purpose of the split was to accord shareholders with greater \"liquidity\" over their TSLA holding.
\n
However, the weakness in Tesla's share price was more likely attributable to a capital-raising exercise announced pre-market on September 1, 2020. Although only up to $5 billion worth of shares representing just over 1 percent of Tesla's market cap were to be sold, investors were probably looking for a trigger to take profit considering that TSLA was running in overbought territory for more than two weeks, according to the relative strength index [RSI] momentum indicator at that time.
\n
TSLA's strong run upwards had also led to the stock becoming \"overweight\" on many shareholders' portfolios. Ironically, that meant investors, whether individuals or fund managers had to reduce their Tesla holdings to avoid concentration risk. For funds with concentration guidelines or rules, it's not even a choice but a mandatory reduction exercise once the Tesla position became outsized.
\n
To make matters worse, Tesla stock was subsequently dragged down further into correction territory amid a sell-off by investors of tech favorites and \"all things frothy.\" The share price recovered some grounds quickly but the stock stagnated for a few months thereafter before a powerful wave of EV hypeswept TSLA up again to new heights.
\n
Source: Yahoo Finance
\n
When will Tesla stock split again?
\n
Although Tesla's share price has pulled back from the peak earlier in the year, it remains much higher than the post-split level last year. At $744.12 at the time of writing, TSLA is 49 percent higher than the $498.32 close on August 31, 2020, the day of the stock split.
\n
If the past is any reference, Tesla executives did the stock split when the share price was in quadruple-digit. TSLA will need to rise more than 34 percent for that to happen again. As I opined earlier, Tesla stock appears to be poised for further upside. I believe it's more of a question of when, not if, will TSLA hit above $1,000 per share.
\n
Nevertheless, even in the current investing environment where there are platforms allowing the trading of fractional shares, there are still benefits for stocks with smaller prices. One obvious advantage is the impact on psychology, as the mind interprets low prices as \"cheaply valued\" and having room to head north.
\n
The leadership at Apple must be thinking the same as the folks at Tesla when the company executed its stock split around the same time as the EV giant last August. It may not happen and the share price could still zoom upwards on speculations, improving sentiment, or due to business fundamentals.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":89,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3565174018553243","authorId":"3565174018553243","name":"Wilsonfusion","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/6de88fd82d0cd3dde5c611b9bad2c0df","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3565174018553243","authorIdStr":"3565174018553243"},"content":"Done. The comments, however, don’t appear to be matching up. While chip makers’ comments are setting off alarms, car makers—whose stocks are mostly off to a great start in 2021—are downplaying the problem.
\n
A lack of microchips that make modern cars function has resulted in unplanned downtime for many auto makers. Ford Motor (ticker: F), for instance, said it was extending outages at three assembly plants Thursday.Terrence Curtin, CEO of electrical component supplier TE Connectivity (TEL) toldBarron’s this week that roughly 1 million cars weren’t built in the first quarter because of the shortage. That is about 5% of global auto output. And General Motors (GM) called the shortage a billion dollar headwind to 2021 operating profits when the company reported fourth quarter numbers earlier this year.
\n
Auto stocks, however, have been largely unaffected by the issue. GM and Ford shares, for instance, are both up 36% year to date. Parts suppliers TE and BorgWarner (BWA) are up 9% and 28%, respectively. Car dealer Auto Nation (AN) stock is also on fire as well, up about 38% so far in 2021.
\n
Demand is strong, rebounding from the 2020 pandemic-induced recession. The optimism for higher sales in 2021 and 2022 is trumping any concern about near term disruption. But the disruption might get worse before it gets better and auto investors will have to square that reality with their outlooks as more company report first quarter numbers.
\n
Ford is set to report earnings April 28. GM follows on May 5. Daimler (DAI.Germany), for its part, reported first quarter numbers Friday. Things still look good. Car sales rose, product mix was favorable and profitability improved. Management doesn’t sound too worried about microchips. “The impact from semiconductor shortage was not very material in the first quarter,” said CFO Harald Wilhelm on an investor call. Second quarter impacts are possible, but “we anticipate to recover part of the lost volumes by the end of the year.”
\n
Daimler stock is down 1.1% in overseas trading. Year to date, share are up about 28%.
\n
Stellantis (STLA) CEO Carlos Tavares sounded a little more cautious in an April 15 conference noting that production impacts would extend into the second half of 2021 and that “visibility on the speed at which this is going to be fixed is reasonably low right now.”
\n
Along with some auto makers, Intel (INTC) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) have also reported first quarter results. Taiwan Semi went first, saying the automotive shortage should be “greatly reduced” by the third quarter of 2021.
\n
Resolution is good news, but Q3 is a little later than auto companies expected at the beginning of the year. Intel management was a little more cautious on their earnings conference call. They said the shortage might stretch on for longer than investors currently expect. “The industry is now challenged by a shortage of foundry capacity, substrates and components,” commented CEO Patrick Gelsinger Thursday evening. “It will take a couple of years for the ecosystem to make the significant investments to address these shortages.”
\n
Investors should get ready to hear more about shortages extending deeper into 2021. The stocks won’t get a pass unless companies keep putting up good numbers like Diamler. Auto suppler Gentex (GNTX), for instance, missed first quarter sales estimates because of the shortage. The company reported $484 million in first quarter sales Friday. Wall Street was looking for $491 million. Gentex management estimated that $45 million in sales was lost due to the shortage.
\n
Gentex shares are down about 1% in early trading. That isn’t a big move, but it is a wobble with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively.
\n
The chip issue isn’t going away. And it will remain a watch item for auto investors, who aren’t use to thinking about foundries and substrates, as Intel’s Gelsinger put it.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Car Stocks Aren’t Getting Crushed by the Chip Shortage
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Car Stocks Aren’t Getting Crushed by the Chip Shortage\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-04-23 23:13 GMT+8 Barrons\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Dreamstime\nWith first quarter results coming in, car and semiconductor companies are commenting on the microchip shortage which is hampering global auto production.
