On Thursday, Amazon (AMZN) joined the list of fallen tech giants. After disastrous results for Alphabet, Microsoft and then Meta, the ecommerce leader took its turn to reflect the difficulties faced by the market leaders in the current economic climate.Shares are taking a hit in pre-market trading after the company said it expects a deceleration in sales growth for the holiday season, with waning demand amidst fears of a recession and the strong dollar all taking their toll. Meanwhile, Amazon also delivered a mixed Q3 report.First, the bright spot; posting a quarterly profit for the first time in 2022, Amazon delivered EPS of $0.28, coming in ahead of the Street’s forecast of $0.22.But there was a miss on the top-line as revenue increased by 14.7% year-over-year to $127.1 billion, falling shy of the consensus estimate by $370 million.Exhibiting the lowest growth rate since the start of 2014, AWS sales increased by 27.5% from the same period a year ago to $20.5 billion, below the analysts’ prediction of $21.2 billion. And then there was the guide; for Q4, Amazon’s operating income is expected in the region between $0 and $4.0 billion, with sales coming in between $140 billion to $148 billion. That was a big letdown as Wall Street had called for operating income of $5.05 billion and revenue of $155.09 billion. With the shares hammered and the stock on course to head back below the $1 trillion market cap threshold for the first time since April 2020, Truist’s Youssef Squali has some reassuring words for battered investors.“AMZN’s results were generally in line with expectations but the linearity of 3Q and the 4Q guide show that demand trends are slowing into October,” the 5-star analyst said. “In addition to macro headwinds, AMZN is also working to regain productivity losses from Covid, which are taking a bit longer to materialize and weighing on margins. That said, we view these challenges as temporary and see AMZN with the power of Prime, AWS leadership and rapidly growing ad business as best positioned to ride these multiple secular growth trends in FY23/beyond.”To this end, Squali maintains a Buy rating although the price target is lowered from $170 to $160. Still, the revised figure suggests shares will climb 44% higher over the coming months.Amazon remains a favorite on Wall Street. While one analyst stays on the sidelines, all 30 other reviews on file are positive, making the consensus view here a Strong Buy. Going by the $169.32 average target, the shares have room for 53% growth in the year ahead.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":421,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9082358768,"gmtCreate":1650528356478,"gmtModify":1676534745351,"author":{"id":"3581931764412996","authorId":"3581931764412996","name":"Chuily","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/3d1fa911f7256b2fd04dc108831875ff","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581931764412996","idStr":"3581931764412996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9082358768","repostId":"2228940605","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2228940605","pubTimestamp":1650512557,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2228940605?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-21 11:42","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Pinterest Earnings: What to Watch on April 27","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2228940605","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"User growth will be in focus when the image-discovery platform operator reports first-quarter results.","content":"<html><head></head><body><p><b>Pinterest</b> is slated to report its first-quarter 2022 results after the market closes on Wednesday, April 27. A conference call with analysts is scheduled for the same day at 4:30 p.m. ET.</p><p>The visual-based social media company is heading toward its release on a mixed note. Last quarter, shares rose 11.2% after revenue and earnings beat the Wall Street consensus estimates. Indeed, earnings exceeded analysts' expectations in all four quarters last year.</p><p>However, user growth -- particularly in the United States -- continues to be pressured by tough year-over-year comparables from the earlier stages of the pandemic, when people were spending much more time in their homes and online.</p><p>Pinterest stock has been on a largely steady downslide since the second half of 2021, following it seesawing up-and-down in the first half of that year and soaring 254% in 2020. The stock is down nearly 75% since hitting its all-time high in mid-February 2021.</p><p>The stock's struggles are attributable to a combination of investor concern over user growth and market dynamics, which began to weigh on the stock late last year. That's when concerns about looming Federal Reserve interest rate increases began to hurt stocks in general, and particularly tech growth stocks and other interest rate-sensitive stocks.</p><p>Here's what to watch in Pinterest's upcoming Q1 report.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/461b3f422d86712c6ba8451fee1215c2\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Pinterest's key numbers</h2><p>Following are the company's results from Q1 2021, its Q1 2022 guidance, and Wall Street's consensus estimates to use as benchmarks.</p><table border=\"1\"><tbody><tr><th>Metric</th><th>Q1 2021 Result</th><th>Pinterest's Q1 2022 Guidance</th><th>Wall Street's Q1 2022 Consensus Estimate</th><th>Wall Street's Projected Change</th></tr><tr><td>Revenue</td><td>$485.2 million</td><td>Growth in the high-teens percentage range</td><td>$573.6 million</td><td>18%</td></tr><tr><td>Adjusted* earnings per share (EPS)</td><td>$0.11</td><td>N/A</td><td>$0.02</td><td>(82%)</td></tr></tbody></table><p>Data sources: Pinterest and Yahoo! Finance. *"Adjusted" is synonymous with "non-GAAP"(generally accepted accounting principles). Note: Pinterest didn't issue earnings guidance.</p><p>For context, last quarter -- the big holiday quarter -- Pinterest's revenue grew 20% year over year to $846.7 million. That result comfortably surpassed the Street's consensus estimate of $828.4 million, and was also higher than the company's guidance of growth in the high-teens percentage range. Adjusted net income was $339.4 million, or $0.49 per share, up 14% from the year-ago period. That result beat the $0.45 per share analysts had been expecting.</p><h2>Key user stats: U.S. numbers will be in focus</h2><p>Pinterest's revenue is determined by two metrics: the number of global monthly active users (MAUs) and global average revenue per user (ARPU), which reflects the advertising rates it achieved. U.S. users are more valuable to the company than international ones since they bring in considerably more advertising revenue.</p><p>Last quarter, global MAUs fell 6% year over year to approximately 431 million. A conference call with analysts is scheduled for the same day at 4:30 p.m. ET.The visual-based social media company is heading toward its release on a mixed note. Last quarter, shares rose 11.2% after revenue and earnings beat the Wall Street consensus estimates. Indeed, earnings exceeded analysts' expectations in all four quarters last year. However, user growth -- particularly in the United States -- continues to be pressured by tough year-over-year comparables from the earlier stages of the pandemic, when people were spending much more time in their homes and online.Pinterest stock has been on a largely steady downslide since the second half of 2021, following it seesawing up-and-down in the first half of that year and soaring 254% in 2020. The stock is down nearly 75% since hitting its all-time high in mid-February 2021.The stock's struggles are attributable to a combination of investor concern over user growth and market dynamics, which began to weigh on the stock late last year. That's when concerns about looming Federal Reserve interest rate increases began to hurt stocks in general, and particularly tech growth stocks and other interest rate-sensitive stocks. Here's what to watch in Pinterest's upcoming Q1 report.Image source: Getty Images.Pinterest's key numbersFollowing are the company's results from Q1 2021, its Q1 2022 guidance, and Wall Street's consensus estimates to use as benchmarks.MetricQ1 2021 ResultPinterest's Q1 2022 GuidanceWall Street's Q1 2022 Consensus EstimateWall Street's Projected ChangeRevenue$485.2 millionGrowth in the high-teens percentage range$573.6 million18%Adjusted* earnings per share (EPS)$0.11N/A$0.02(82%)Data sources: Pinterest and Yahoo! Finance. *\"Adjusted\" is synonymous with \"non-GAAP\"(generally accepted accounting principles). Note: Pinterest didn't issue earnings guidance. For context, last quarter -- the big holiday quarter -- Pinterest's revenue grew 20% year over year to $846.7 million. That result comfortably surpassed the Street's consensus estimate of $828.4 million, and was also higher than the company's guidance of growth in the high-teens percentage range. Adjusted net income was $339.4 million, or $0.49 per share, up 14% from the year-ago period. That result beat the $0.45 per share analysts had been expecting.Key user stats: U.S. numbers will be in focusPinterest's revenue is determined by two metrics: the number of global monthly active users (MAUs) and global average revenue per user (ARPU), which reflects the advertising rates it achieved. U.S. users are more valuable to the company than international ones since they bring in considerably more advertising revenue.Last quarter, global MAUs fell 6% year over year to approximately 431 million. U.S. MAUs declined 12% to 86 million, while international MAUs edged down 4% to 346 million. Global ARPU rose 23% year over year to $1.93. Growth was driven by a 25% jump in U.S. ARPU to $7.43 and an 62% surge in international ARPU to $0.57.In last quarter's earnings release, the company provided the following numbers as of Feb. 1, one month into the first quarter: U.S. MAUs of about 86.6 million, nearly 1% higher than at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, and global MAUs of about 436.8 million. Three negative narratives drive this sentiment: Heavy investment in the metaverse, reduced ad spending, and tough competition from TikTok. Because of this, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FB\">Meta Platforms</a> stock is trading at an all-time low when valued from a price-to-free cash flow standpoint.</p><p>While these concerns are real, a ratio of 16 times free cash flow is far too low for a high-quality business like this. Investors must understand Meta Platforms' risks and know how these will affect the financials.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/398f53d1e7c68dd8da25b7202c250183\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"433\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>FB Price to Free Cash Flow data by YCharts</p><h2>It's getting harder to grow revenue</h2><p>CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the metaverse won't be cheap. However, he is committed to bringing about this change through the company's Reality Labs division, which provides "augmented and virtual reality related consumer hardware, software, and content." Meta broke out this division for the first time in the fourth quarter, and the results weren't pretty. In 2021, the division lost $10.2 billion on revenue of $2.3 billion. It's also not slowing down on expenses. In 2021, Meta spent $71 billion on operating expenses, but management is guiding for $90 billion to $95 billion in 2022.</p><p>Revenue is expected to be negatively affected by recent iOS privacy changes from<b> Apple</b>. This has caused Meta customers to see a lower return on investment (ROI) for their ad campaigns. Meta claimed in the Q4 conference call that the changes disproportionately affect smaller businesses. With less successful advertisements, companies reduce their budgets and focus on other areas.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/90028667ee7c0da172cd55cab6dcb759\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Image source: Getty Images.</p><p>Meta is also worried about ByteDance's TikTok social media app. While Facebook announced Reels to offer a similar product and effectively compete, TikTok is still capturing a large chunk of the social media market share. For the first time ever as a public company, Facebook's daily active users fell from the previous quarter.</p><p>With rising costs, revenue growth pressures, and a strong competitor, the future looks grim for Meta Platforms.</p><h2>Valuations suggest this stock is a bargain</h2><p>Are these concerns truly valid? After all, Meta Platforms is still the most dominant social media company and is highly profitable. Management also expects revenue growth of 3% to 11% for Q1, and investors will find out on April 27 if Meta hit that guidance.</p><p>If Meta can reach the top end of the revenue guidance and continue with 30% expense growth, the company will still be cheaply valued. In 2021, Meta Platforms produced $38.4 billion in free cash flow (FCF) on revenue of $118 billion, an impressive 33% margin. Three negative narratives drive this sentiment: Heavy investment in the metaverse, reduced ad spending, and tough competition from TikTok. Because of this, Meta Platforms stock is trading at an all-time low when valued from a price-to-free cash flow standpoint. While these concerns are real, a ratio of 16 times free cash flow is far too low for a high-quality business like this. Investors must understand Meta Platforms' risks and know how these will affect the financials.FB Price to Free Cash Flow data by YChartsIt's getting harder to grow revenueCEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the metaverse won't be cheap. However, he is committed to bringing about this change through the company's Reality Labs division, which provides \"augmented and virtual reality related consumer hardware, software, and content.\" Meta broke out this division for the first time in the fourth quarter, and the results weren't pretty. In 2021, the division lost $10.2 billion on revenue of $2.3 billion. It's also not slowing down on expenses. In 2021, Meta spent $71 billion on operating expenses, but management is guiding for $90 billion to $95 billion in 2022.Revenue is expected to be negatively affected by recent iOS privacy changes from Apple. This has caused Meta customers to see a lower return on investment (ROI) for their ad campaigns. Meta claimed in the Q4 conference call that the changes disproportionately affect smaller businesses. With less successful advertisements, companies reduce their budgets and focus on other areas.Image source: Getty Images.Meta is also worried about ByteDance's TikTok social media app. While Facebook announced Reels to offer a similar product and effectively compete, TikTok is still capturing a large chunk of the social media market share. For the first time ever as a public company, Facebook's daily active users fell from the previous quarter. With rising costs, revenue growth pressures, and a strong competitor, the future looks grim for Meta Platforms.Valuations suggest this stock is a bargainAre these concerns truly valid? After all, Meta Platforms is still the most dominant social media company and is highly profitable. Management also expects revenue growth of 3% to 11% for Q1, and investors will find out on April 27 if Meta hit that guidance. If Meta can reach the top end of the revenue guidance and continue with 30% expense growth, the company will still be cheaply valued. In 2021, Meta Platforms produced $38.4 billion in free cash flow (FCF) on revenue of $118 billion, an impressive 33% margin. If sales grow 10% for the year and its FCF margin is affected by the $21.5 billion in increased operating costs, the company could generate $35.2 billion in free cash flow. With no stock price appreciation, this would value the stock at 17.2 times 2022 free cash flow.
