The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a gain of about 9 points after being up more than 100 points earlier in the session, closing at 34,292.29. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added about 0.2% for its own record of 14,528.33.\nHomebuilder stocks moved higher after S&P Case-Shiller saidhome prices rose more than 14% in Aprilcompared to the prior year. Five U.S. cities, including Seattle, saw their largest annual increase on record. Shares of PulteGroup rose 2%.\nSemiconductor stocks gained strength later in the session, with Skyworks and Advanced Micro Devices climbing 4.5% and 2.8%, respectively. General Electric boosted the industrials sector, rising over 1% afterGoldman Sachs named the stock a top idea.\nThe market has churned out a series of record highs in recent weeks, but the gains have been relatively modest and some strategists have pointed to weak market breadth, measured by the performance of the average stock and the number of individual names making new highs, as a potential area of concern.\nOn Tuesday, there were slightly more declining stocks in the S&P 500 than those that rose during the session.\nHowever, the diminished breadth and volatility could simply be a natural pause during the summer months ahead of the busy earnings season in July, said Bill McMahon, the chief investment officer for active equity strategies at Charles Schwab Investment Management.\n\"I think people are in a little bit of a wait-and-see mode, so it's not surprising to see volatility decline and breadth worsen a tad,\" McMahon said, adding that concern about the spreading Delta variant of Covid-19 could also be weighing on stocks.\nShares of Morgan Stanley jumped more than 3% after the bank said it willdouble its quarterly dividend. The bank also announced a $12 billion stock buyback program. The announcement follows last week's stress tests by the Federal Reserve, which all 23 major banks passed. However, some other bank stocks gave up early gains and weighed on the broader indexes despite increasing their own payout plans.\nThe Conference Board's consumer confidence reading for June came in higher than expected, adding to the bullish readings about the economic recovery.\nWith the market entering the final trading days of June and the second quarter, the S&P 500 is on track to register its fifth straight month of gains. The Nasdaq is pacing for its seventh positive month in the last eight. The Dow, however, is in the red for the month, and on track to snap a four-month winning streak.\nSo far in 2021, the S&P 500 has added 14%, while the Nasdaq has added more than 12% with the Dow close behind.\nJPMorgan quantitative strategist Dubravkos Lakos-Bujas said on CNBC's \"Squawk Box\" that the market appeared to have near-term upside.\n\"The growth policy backdrop in our opinion still remains supportive for risk assets in general, certainly including equities. At the same time, the positioning is not really stretched to where we are in a problematic territory. So we do think there is still a runway. ... What's several times more difficult, though, is finding potential winners before they take off. Companies working on emerging technologies often face significant risks. At the same time, if successful, their stocks could generate windfall returns. Here are three such companies that are working on the technologies and infrastructure of the future.
\n
QuantumScape
\n
The number of electric vehicles in use worldwide is increasing with each passing day. The shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to EVs is unstoppable. QuantumScape (NYSE:QS) may play a critical role in this transition. The company believes that the solid-state batteries it is developing can provide greater range and quicker recharge times than the lithium-ion batteries currently in use. What's more, its batteries should, in theory, also cost less than lithium-ion batteries.
\n
If QuantumScape can deliver what it is promising, it would have a huge market for its batteries. The company estimates $450 billion of potential annual battery sales if all 90+ million vehicles produced annually shift to batteries.
\n
\n
There are, however, several risks to consider. QuantumScape is still developing the technology and is several years away from commercial production. Its batteries have so far only been sample tested in labs. In its second-quarter results, the company announced that it is testing 10-layer cells and progressing according to its plans. Notably, batteries for use in EVs need several dozen of such layers, something the company expects to accomplish in 2022. At the same time, QuantumScape is slightly ahead of schedule for its pre-pilot manufacturing line. Overall, the company said it is progressing on time.
\n
QuantumScape doesn't expect to generate positive EBITDA before 2027. That's a long time from now, and many things can go wrong in the meantime. But this stock must be on your watch list, even if you decide not to buy it right now.
\n
ChargePoint Holdings
\n
Another stock to potentially benefit from the growth in EVs is electric charging company ChargePoint (NYSE:CHPT). With more than 112,000 charging points in North America and Europe, ChargePoint is one of the biggest EV charging companies in the world. The company claims to control 70% of the public level 2 charging market share in North America.
\n
Like other EV charging providers, ChargePoint isn't profitable right now. It hopes to generate positive EBITDA in 2024. Though a well-functioning public charging network is essential for the growth of EVs, the model for development of this infrastructure is still evolving. Some EV makers, such as Tesla, are developing their own charging networks. Others, such as General Motors, are partnering with several public EV charging companies, essentially suggesting that all chargers are basically the same.
\n
EV charging companies, in turn, are finding innovative ways to generate revenue while continuing to expand their infrastructure. This infrastructure, if properly developed and maintained, should surely be of value in the future. As a top player, ChargePoint could be better placed than others to benefit from the expected growth in EVs. You wouldn't want to miss watching how this company evolves over time.
\n
Bloom Energy
\n
Fuel cells have certainly attracted investors' attention lately. However, makers of proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, such as Plug Power, remain the primary focus. That's because PEM fuel cells find applications in the transport segment due to their quick start and stop times, as well as their lighter weight.
\n
However, another key area for fuel cells that doesn't get so much interest but is of great significance is stationary baseload generation and back-up power. Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) is primarily focused on this segment. It is also expanding into carbon capture technologies, marine transport, and hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers. Overall, the company pegs its total addressable market at over $2 trillion.
\n
Bloom Energy fares better on key financial metrics compared to other fuel cell makers. In the last three years, the company has grown its revenue, shrank losses, and improved margins. Bloom Energy expects that its cash from operations will move toward positive territory for full-year 2021. It also expects to achieve non-GAAP operating margin of around 3% for the year. This overlooked stock definitely needs to be on your watch list of growth stocks.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 High-Risk Stocks to Add to Your Watch List
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 High-Risk Stocks to Add to Your Watch List\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-14 10:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Identifying winning stocks in hindsight is a simple task. The company estimates $450 billion of potential annual battery sales if all 90+ million vehicles produced annually shift to batteries.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nThere are, however, several risks to consider. Overall, the company said it is progressing on time.\nQuantumScape doesn't expect to generate positive EBITDA before 2027. That's a long time from now, and many things can go wrong in the meantime. But this stock must be on your watch list, even if you decide not to buy it right now.\nChargePoint Holdings\nAnother stock to potentially benefit from the growth in EVs is electric charging company ChargePointย (NYSE:CHPT). With more than 112,000 charging points in North America and Europe, ChargePoint is one of the biggest EV charging companies in the world. The company claims to control 70% of the public level 2 charging market share in North America.\nLike other EV charging providers, ChargePoint isn't profitable right now. It hopes to generate positive EBITDA in 2024. Though a well-functioning public charging network is essential for the growth of EVs, the model for development of this infrastructure is still evolving. Some EV makers, such as Tesla, are developing their own charging networks. Others, such as General Motors, are partnering with several public EV charging companies, essentially suggesting that all chargers are basically the same.\nEV charging companies, in turn, are finding innovative ways to generate revenue while continuing to expand their infrastructure. This infrastructure, if properly developed and maintained, should surely be of value in the future. As a top player, ChargePoint could be better placed than others to benefit from the expected growth in EVs. You wouldn't want to miss watching how this company evolves over time.\nBloom Energy\nFuel cells have certainly attracted investors' attention lately. However, makers of proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, such as Plug Power, remain the primary focus. That's because PEM fuel cells find applications in the transport segment due to their quick start and stop times, as well as their lighter weight.\nHowever, another key area for fuel cells that doesn't get so much interest but is of great significance is stationary baseload generation and back-up power. Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) is primarily focused on this segment. It is also expanding into carbon capture technologies, marine transport, and hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers. Overall, the company pegs its total addressable market at over $2 trillion.\nBloom Energy fares better on key financial metrics compared to other fuel cell makers. In the last three years, the company has grown its revenue, shrank losses, and improved margins. Bloom Energy expects that its cash from operations will move toward positive territory for full-year 2021. It also expects to achieve non-GAAP operating margin of around 3% for the year. This overlooked stock definitely needs to be on your watch list of growth stocks.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":146,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893228272,"gmtCreate":1628265763996,"gmtModify":1703504343713,"author":{"id":"3581971370837763","authorId":"3581971370837763","name":"WChen91","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b80c447bbb749afb1e2e06b5ce30531b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581971370837763","authorIdStr":"3581971370837763"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"??","listText":"??","text":"??","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/893228272","repostId":"1155656235","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1155656235","pubTimestamp":1628227304,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1155656235?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-06 13:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"20 cloud stocks expected to increase sales the most over the next two years","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1155656235","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Cloud ETFs are close to record highs, propelled by a rally in the sector\nAnalysts see stellar sales ","content":"
Cloud ETFs are close to record highs, propelled by a rally in the sector
\n
Analysts see stellar sales growth ahead for companies that provide cloud services. But thatโs not actually the case. In fact, advertising is gradually becoming a material contributor to the companyโs revenue base.
\n
In a research note Tuesday, Bernstein analystToni Sacconaghidoes a deep dive into Appleโs ad business. While the company doesnโt talk about the business much andprovides little disclosure, Sacconaghi estimates that Apple will generate about $3 billion in ad revenue in the September 2021 fiscal year, up from about $300 million in fiscal 2017. He thinks the total could grow to the $7 billion-to-$10 billion-a-year range by fiscal 2023 or 2024, boosting growth in Appleโs services business as much as three percentage points.
\n
Sacconaghi notes that most of Appleโs ad business is centered on search ads in the App Store. He says growth drivers in the business include the June addition of search ads in China, higher ad loads, and the introduction of banner ads to the store in May. He also points out that Apple generates modest revenue todayโlikely under $500 million a yearโfrom ads in the Apple News and Stocks apps.
\n
There are other opportunitiesโincluding Apple Maps and Apple TV. Sacconaghi estimates that Google generates about $4 billion in ad revenue a year from Maps, with a user base about four times the size, suggesting $1 billion a year in potential ad revenue. But thatโs not actually the case. In fact, advertising is gradually becoming a material contributor to the companyโs revenue base.\nIn a research note Tuesday, Bernstein analystToni Sacconaghidoes a deep dive into Appleโs ad business. While the company doesnโt talk about the business much andprovides little disclosure, Sacconaghi estimates that Apple will generate about $3 billion in ad revenue in the September 2021 fiscal year, up from about $300 million in fiscal 2017. He thinks the total could grow to the $7 billion-to-$10 billion-a-year range by fiscal 2023 or 2024, boosting growth in Appleโs services business as much as three percentage points.\nSacconaghi notes that most of Appleโs ad business is centered on search ads in the App Store. He says growth drivers in the business include the June addition of search ads in China, higher ad loads, and the introduction of banner ads to the store in May. He also points out that Apple generates modest revenue todayโlikely under $500 million a yearโfrom ads in the Apple News and Stocks apps.\nThere are other opportunitiesโincluding Apple Maps and Apple TV. Sacconaghi estimates that Google generates about $4 billion in ad revenue a year from Maps, with a user base about four times the size, suggesting $1 billion a year in potential ad revenue. And he says that the streaming-device companyRoku (ROKU)provides โa helpful precedentโ for how Apple can generate revenue from Apple TV hardwareโwhere he sees another $1 billion-plus opportunity.\nThe analyst adds that Apple could place ads on other propertiesโlike Apple Fitness+ and Garage Bandโbut that the adoption of advertising in applications like Apple Mail, Apple TV+, or Appleโs home screens likely would โirk consumers and undermine Appleโs strongly avowed stance on privacy.โ\nMeanwhile, Sacconaghi says, Appleโs position on Identifier for Advertisers, or IDFA, offers the company some competitive advantages. โWhile we believe that Appleโs move to eliminate IDFA was done in the spirit of advancing consumer privacy, it may ultimately provide Apple with an advertising platform that is competitively advantaged vs. peers who donโt have access to Appleโs richer APIs,โ he writes.\nThe analyst notes thatAmazon.comโs (AMZN) ad business was similar in size to Appleโs in 2017โand now has a run rate north of $25 billion and is a substantial part of the investment thesis on the stock. โAlong similar lines, a large and growing advertising business could help Apple accelerate its overall Services growth rate, which would likely be viewed positively by investors,โ he concludes.\nApple shares were up 0.1%, at $145.72, in recent trading. Some seem to think so. Just last week, analysts at Deutsche Bank cited the high valuation of the S&P 500 relative to its history as a potential reason for worry. And it's true that low interest rates, technological disruption, and a government stimulus have all come together to put stocks at high valuations relative to current earnings.
\n
The naysayers always have some reason the market is about to crash, but that doesn't mean it will happen, or that the market won't got on to hit new highs over time, as it always has.
\n
Still, if you're nervous about the valuations of many top stocks, there are quite a few bargains to be had. With enough looking, investors can still find quality companies trading at low valuation ratios across a range of sectors. Today, financial stock Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS), tech giant Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), and U.S. cannabis company Ayr Wellness (OTC:AYRW.F) all appear to fit that description.
\n
\n
Discover one of the cheapest dividend stocks around
\n
Credit card giant Discover Financial is up an impressive 33% on the year, but the stock is still one of the cheapest in the financial sector, which is also one of the lowest-valued sectors around. Yes, thanks to government stimulus and much better-than-expected loss rates coming out of the pandemic, Discover has released a lot of the extra credit reserves it took in the first two quarters of 2020, which has turbocharged its earnings this year, bringing its P/E ratio down to just 7.7. Yet the stock still trades at less than 10 times its average 2022 estimate, which doesn't incorporate any extraordinary benefits.
\n
Why so cheap? Well, investors are perennially skeptical of unsecured credit card loans, and that's where Discover makes the vast majority of its profits. Its other lending products are student loans and unsecured personal loans. Discover, of course, also has its proprietary credit card network, but its payments business, while perhaps making the business vertically integrated and more efficient, yields little in operating profit.
\n
Still, the flip side of this \"risk\" is that Discover can charge high credit card interest rates, which gives it a net interest margin over 10% -- much higher than traditional banks. And Discover has a history of managing risk very well. Its operating income showed remarkable stability for the five years before the COVID-19 pandemic, with a high return on equity consistently in the low to mid-20% range. Earnings and dividends per share grew every year with the help of generous share repurchases.
\n
Now that the pandemic is receding, those share repurchases are commencing again, with management recently authorizing a new $2.4 billion share repurchase program, which would amount to 7% of Discover's market cap, along with a 14% dividend increase, to a 1.7% yield at today's stock price. Discover is also now back in growth mode, after tightening things up last year. CEO Roger Hochschild said on the conference call with analysts that new account growth is up 26% over 2019.
\n
While the delta variant may slow the recovery, 2021 economic growth should still be strong, with consumer balance sheets in good shape. That means financials like Discover should do well, and those benefits should trickle down to its shareholders, too.
\n
\n
Micron is confident enough to reinitiate a dividend
\n
If I were to tell you that a company recently felt confident enough in its outlook to reinitiate a dividend for the first time in 25 years, you might be surprised that the stock would be down 22% from recent highs, and that it trades for just 7 times next year's earnings estimates. Yet that's exactly what has happened with Micron Technology, a global leader in memory and storage chips.
\n
There's no doubt that Micron's business can be highly cyclical, and that we are currently in some stage of an upswing in memory prices. Therefore, investors appear to be thinking ahead, anticipating the next downturn, which is why shares have lagged recently.
\n
However, Micron is a consistently improving business, and it should become less cyclical, for a few reasons. First, the DRAM industry, where Micron gets about two-thirds of its revenue, has consolidated to just three large players. Those three are now exercising disciplined supply growth, a contrast from the past. In addition, the ability to scale DRAM further is becoming harder, meaning that increasing supply is becoming more difficult. At the same time, DRAM demand is strong and diversified across artificial-intelligence servers, cloud growth, 5G mobile phones, more powerful laptops, and more computerized automobiles. Finally, Micron has recently caught up to competitors in leading-edge technology, while gearing its portfolio toward higher-value solutions.
\n
All of this has meant higher highs and higher lows in terms of margins through the cycles. At the beginning of the 2000s, Micron's adjusted EBITDA margins would turn negative in cyclical troughs; however, EBITDA margins bottomed around 40% in the last downcycle and are still trending upward.
\n
Combined with a strong balance sheet with more cash than debt, Micron is one of the cheapest stocks in the otherwise-expensive tech sector, despite a positive outlook for demand for the next decade. The reason? It's a bit hard to say, but it could be several things: \"Hot money\" may have been chasing federal legislation that would end cannabis prohibition, but with no action yet this far into the year, it appears patience is wearing thin. In addition, many institutional investors still can't own U.S. pot stocks, which can only trade on Canadian exchanges or over the counter until federal decriminalization happens.
\n
Up-and-coming cannabis company Ayr Wellness was already one of the cheapest stocks in the space, and the recent sector sell-off has made it even more of a bargain. The sell-off doesn't have much to do with earnings results, as Ayr just reported heady 222% revenue growth in its recent quarter, while raising its 2022 guidance to $800 million in revenue and $300 million in adjusted EBITDA. That means its stock, with a market cap just under $1.5 billion, trades at a forward enterprise value-to-EBITDA multiple of just 5.
\n
That's a really cheap valuation for a high-growth company. In fact, it's so cheap that Ayr's management just initiated a repurchase program for up to 5% of Ayr's shares outstanding over the next 12 months. With so much opportunity for growth, devoting cash to repurchasing shares says something about what management thinks of the current stock price.
\n
While cannabis legislation hasn't come as fast as many had hoped, it's still in play. The deadline just passed for stakeholders to give comments that will inform the final Senate legalization bill, co-sponsored by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, and Sen. Some seem to think so. Just last week, analysts at Deutsche Bankย cited the high valuation of the S&P 500 relative to its history as a potential reason for worry. And it's true that low interest rates, technological disruption, and a government stimulus have all come together to put stocks at high valuations relative to current earnings.\nThe naysayers always have some reason the market is about to crash, but that doesn't mean it will happen, or that the market won't got on to hit new highs over time, as it always has.\nStill, if you're nervous about the valuations of many top stocks, there are quite a few bargains to be had. With enough looking, investors can still find quality companies trading at low valuation ratios across a range of sectors. Today, financial stock Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS), tech giant Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), and U.S. cannabis company Ayr Wellness (OTC:AYRW.F) all appear to fit that description.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nDiscover one of the cheapest dividend stocks around\nCredit card giant Discover Financial is up an impressive 33% on the year, but the stock is still one of the cheapest in the financial sector, which is also one of the lowest-valued sectors around. Yes, thanks to government stimulus and much better-than-expected loss rates coming out of the pandemic, Discover has released a lot of the extra credit reserves it took in the first two quarters of 2020, which has turbocharged its earnings this year, bringing its P/E ratio down to just 7.7. Yet the stock still trades at less than 10 times its average 2022 estimate, which doesn't incorporate any extraordinary benefits.\nWhy so cheap? Well, investors are perennially skeptical of unsecured credit card loans, and that's where Discover makes the vast majority of its profits. Its other lending products are student loans and unsecured personal loans. Discover, of course, also has its proprietary credit card network, but its payments business, while perhaps making the business vertically integrated and more efficient, yields little in operating profit.\nStill, the flip side of this \"risk\" is that Discover can charge high credit card interest rates, which gives it a net interest margin over 10% -- much higher than traditional banks. And Discover has a history of managing risk very well. Its operating income showed remarkable stability for the five years before the COVID-19 pandemic, with a high return on equity consistently in the low to mid-20% range. Earnings and dividends per share grew every year with the help of generous share repurchases.\nNow that the pandemic is receding, those share repurchases are commencing again, with management recently authorizing a new $2.4 billion share repurchase program, which would amount to 7% of Discover's market cap, along with a 14% dividend increase, to a 1.7% yield at today's stock price. Discover is also now back in growth mode, after tightening things up last year. CEO Roger Hochschild said on the conference call with analysts that new account growth is up 26% over 2019.\nWhile the delta variant may slow the recovery, 2021 economic growth should still be strong, with consumer balance sheets in good shape. That means financials like Discover should do well, and those benefits should trickle down to its shareholders, too.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nMicron is confident enough to reinitiate a dividend\nIf I were to tell you that a company recently felt confident enough in its outlook to reinitiate a dividend for the first time in 25 years, you might be surprised that the stock would be down 22% from recent highs, and that it trades for just 7 times next year's earnings estimates. Yet that's exactly what has happened with Micron Technology, a global leader in memory and storage chips.\nThere's no doubt that Micron's business can be highly cyclical, and that we are currently in some stage of an upswing in memory prices. Therefore, investors appear to be thinking ahead, anticipating the next downturn, which is why shares have lagged recently.\nHowever, Micron is a consistently improving business, and it should become less cyclical, for a few reasons. Finally, Micron has recently caught up to competitors in leading-edge technology, while gearing its portfolio toward higher-value solutions.\nAll of this has meant higher highs and higher lows in terms of margins through the cycles. At the beginning of the 2000s, Micron's adjusted EBITDA margins would turn negative in cyclical troughs; however, EBITDA margins bottomed around 40% in the last downcycle and are still trending upward.\nCombined with a strong balance sheet with more cash than debt, Micron is one of the cheapest stocks in the otherwise-expensive tech sector, despite a positive outlook for demand for the next decade. In fact, the growing confidence means Chatterjee has added Apple to the firmโs Analyst Focus List as โa Growth idea.โ\nโThe recent momentum led by better market share, drives us to also estimate higher sustainable volumes in future quarters, leading us to see a path to Apple outperforming investor expectations over a longer time horizon rather than just the upcoming earnings print,โ the 5-star analyst said, confirming Apple is also a Top Pick.\nTo reflect the increase in build rates, Chatterjee has โmodestlyโ increased iPhone volume expectations, but of more importance to the analyst is the โpath to upsideโ for the shares in the medium-term.\nThis is because of the potential for better iPhone 12 sales but also due to what Chatterjee considers are low expectations from the iPhone 13โs fall launch, which could create โanother leg to the upside opportunity.โ\nItโs a potent mix which is given additional allure with the launch of the iPhone SE3 next year and means Apple can โnot only pleasantly surprise with a more robust iPhone 13 cycle, but also has the opportunity to drive material upside to consensus expectations for FY22.โ\nTo this end, Chatterjee rates Apple shares an Overweight (i.e. Buy), while slightly lifting the price target from $170 to $175. The revised figure implying shares will add 19.5% from current levels.\nSo, thatโs J.P. Morganโs view, what does the rest of the Street have in mind for Apple? Based on 20 Buys, 5 Holds and 2 Sells, the stock currently has a Moderate Buy consensus rating. The forecast is for shares to appreciate by 8% over the coming months, given the average price target clocks in at $158.62.\nTo find good ideas for tech stocks trading at attractive valuations, visit TipRanksโย Best Stocks to Buy, a newly launched tool that unites all of TipRanksโ equity insights.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":160,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9092691067,"gmtCreate":1644599204738,"gmtModify":1676533945351,"author":{"id":"3581971370837763","authorId":"3581971370837763","name":"WChen91","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b80c447bbb749afb1e2e06b5ce30531b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581971370837763","authorIdStr":"3581971370837763"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"๐๐ผ","listText":"๐๐ผ","text":"๐๐ผ","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9092691067","repostId":"2210159258","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2210159258","pubTimestamp":1644592522,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2210159258?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-11 23:15","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 High-Yield Dividend Stocks That Are Trading Near Their 52-Week Lows","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2210159258","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Both offer yields more than twice what the S&P 500 provides.","content":"

When dividend stocks go on sale, it can be an opportunity for investors to lock in a higher-than-normal yield. The dividend yield, of course is a function of both quarterly payments and the share price; when the latter falls, the yield goes up.

A couple of already high-yielding stocks that are paying more than the S&P 500 average of 1.3% and have fallen near their 52-week lows are Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) and 3M (NYSE:MMM). Here's why despite recent investor bearishness, these could be solid additions to your portfolios today.

1. Gilead Sciences

Drugmaker Gilead Sciences is trading at around $63 a share and has been inching closer to its 52-week low of $61.39. The stock nosedived after the company released its latest quarterly results on Feb. 1. Gilead's performance for the past three months of 2021 was underwhelming with the company's sales of $7.2 billion declining 2.4% from the same period a year ago. Net income of $376 million was also just a fraction of the $1.5 billion that it reported a year earlier; the healthcare company says the decline was largely due to a legal settlement of $625 million involving Arcus Biosciences.

For 2022, Gilead projects that its sales will come in between $23.8 billion and $24.3 billion; at the midpoint of $24 billion, that would be a decline of 12% from the $27.3 billion it recorded in 2021. The company expects diluted earnings per share (EPS) to be between $4.70 and $5.20 for the year, so it could still potentially come in better than the $4.93-per-share profit it reported this past year.

Even if there is a decline in profitability, those numbers will still be strong enough to support the company's dividend, which currently pays shareholders $2.92 per share a year. At the low point of its EPS estimate, Gilead's payout ratio would still be fairly modest at 62%; that would leave plenty of room for the company not only to support but also to grow its already high dividend, which currently yields 4.6%.

Although Gilead is facing some challenges, particularly from losses in exclusivity for some of its key products, the company is working on building out its pipeline. In oncology alone, there are over 30 clinical trials currently taking place.

Gilead remains in solid shape despite some risks, and investors are compensated for it as the stock trades at a lower forward price-to-earnings multiple than other drugmakers:

GILD PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts.

2. 3M

Multinational conglomerate 3M hit a new 52-week low this week as it also fell out of favor with investors. The company, which makes healthcare masks and respirators, was a popular investment during the pandemic's early stages. And as COVID-19 case numbers began to subside last year and hopes about a return to normal rose, interest in the stock began to wane.

The company released fourth-quarter numbers on Jan. 25, reporting sales of $8.6 billion for the period ended Dec. 31, 2021. That was flat from the prior year. Meanwhile, net income declined by 4.7% to $1.3 billion. By contrast, sales rose 5.8% in 2020's fourth quarter. That was largely due to an increase in safety and industrial revenue (including personal hygiene products and masks). This time around, however, that segment of its business fell 2% to about $3.1 billion.

Other business units (healthcare, transportation and electronics) are smaller and also showed little or no growth. The lone exception and growth catalyst in Q4 was its consumer business (e.g. bandages, cleaning, and stationery products) which rose by 4% and helped keep the quarter's sales just slightly above the prior-year numbers. All this diversification makes the business resilient -- and as a whole, 3M continues to do well. For all of 2021, net sales rose 10% year over year to $35.4 billion.

For income investors, the company's payouts look more than safe even if the growth rate starts to falter. 3M is a Dividend King thanks to increasing its dividend payments for more than 60 years in a row. And there's little doubt that streak will continue; it paid out $5.92 per share in dividends for 2021. With an EPS of $10.12, that puts its payout ratio at just 58%. So there's plenty of room for the company to continue making and increasing payouts.

3M shares haven't been this low since the fall of 2020, and the stock's yield is currently at 3.7%. Now could be a great time to add this investment to your portfolio.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 High-Yield Dividend Stocks That Are Trading Near Their 52-Week Lows
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 High-Yield Dividend Stocks That Are Trading Near Their 52-Week Lows\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-11 23:15 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When dividend stocks go on sale, it can be an opportunity for investors to lock in a higher-than-normal yield.
