Furthermore, given how NVDA had been closely tied to the cryptocurrency mining, we may expect reduced sales moving forward, seeing how the whole market had lost over $1T of combined value in recent days.</p><p>However, we encourage NVDA investors to ignore the noise as the stock remains a solid investment for the next decade. Nonetheless, please do not buy the dip as we expect the stock to retrace in the next few weeks, as the market grapples with the macro pessimism and crypto crash.</p><p><b>Why Did NVDA Fall From Grace?</b></p><p><b>NVDA Revenue, Net Income, and Gross Margin</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7c8b7f527622943487f298f58aec0a8f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"396\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Pre-pandemic, NVDA had grown its revenue and net income at a steady CAGR of 16.44% and 18.9%. It obviously grew exponentially in the past two years, given the massive demand for personal devices due to the increased remote work/ study/ entertainment options during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, NVDA grew its revenues at a tremendous CAGR of 57.05%, while its net income rose even faster at a CAGR of 86.94%. The company also steadily improved its gross margins from 58.8% in FY2017 to 64.9% in FY2022.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y Stock Price</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f98282f6ea46ae8ad6b84c285f70dc\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"229\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>As a result, it is evident that NVDA investors had benefited from its stellar growth, given that the stock had risen by 580% in the past two years, before the drastic moderation that occurred in late 2021.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y EV/Revenue and P/E Valuations</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bb56f00646af22e85bd8a43914c1b14a\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"228\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>However, we believe that the market correction is expected, given that NVDA was trading at ridiculous valuations at its peak, with EV/NTM Revenue of 28x and NTM P/E of 72.98x. That is way higher than Intel&#39;s (INTC) valuation of EV/NTM Revenue of 4.19x and NTM P/E of 15.47x in the past three years, and even AMD (AMD) at 10.59x and 65.39x, respectively. In hindsight, it is evident that NVDA has been highly (maybe over) valued, given its exposure to multiple market segments, such as AI technology, autonomous EVs, cloud computing servers, cryptocurrency, and metaverse, amongst others.</p><p>Nonetheless, we may also see a short-term impact, given Meta&#39;s (FB) slowing investments in the Reality Labs ( metaverse),reduced demand for GPUs from the crypto mining, and impacted auto production outputs from China&#39;s Zero Covid Policy. As an investor myself, I believe that high-growth tech companies, such as NVDA, should build up their future capabilities and product innovations, to keep their advantage in the highly competitive semiconductor industry moving forward. Nonetheless, the risks are also inherent that many companies may slow down their Capex investments in the next few quarters, given the impending recession and rising interest rates. Why pay 18 times revenue to own Cadillac when <b>Chevrolet</b> is what the people want?</p><p>Dances With Bulls</p><p>If I am right, Tesla is overvalued. Tesla is getting fat on the cream of the market when any dairyman knows the big sales are in low fat milk.</p><p>Tesla is indeed getting fat. Tesla bears turned into bulls after first quarter numbers came out. Tesla earned $3.3 billion, $2.86/share under GAAP, on first quarter revenue of $18.7 billion. Auto revenues were 87% ahead of a year earlier. But they were just 5% ahead of the previous quarter.</p><p>Bulls think Tesla is <b>Apple</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AAPL</u></b>), that it has the market sewn up. They say there will be haves and have-nots in the new tech market and Tesla will be one of the haves. They see continuing supply chain worries and assume Tesla will surmount them while rivals won’t.</p><p>Tesla has taught its industry many lessons, but the lessons are being learned. Buy a <b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:<b><u>TM</u></b>) today and you’ll be faced with a host of services aimed at tying you to the brand. For car dealers, service and support are where the money is. Even <b>General Motors</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GM</u></b>) has learned that you build your full line off one platform to keep costs down and focus on battery supply.</p><p>Despite Tesla’s pretensions, in other words, it’s a car company. No car company is worth 18 times its revenue.</p><p>The Great Replacement</p><p>A walk around my middle-class neighborhood tells the story. The “Great Replacement” today isn’t people quitting their jobs. It’s replacing America’s gas-guzzling fleet with EVs.</p><p>Tesla made the big jump look cool. We have two Teslas on my block. But for most people it’s still a question of small steps. That’s why I recently became the fifth homeowner on my street to buy a Toyota hybrid. It cuts my gas use in half, but I don’t have to worry about finding a plug in the middle of West Virginia. It also cost half what a Tesla costs.</p><p>Cars with plugs, like Tesla, still represent just 5% of the U.S. car market. Hybrids are where the growth is in today’s mass market, which is dominated by Japanese, Korean and Chinese names.</p><p>Tesla’s market share in China is falling. In Europe, <b>Volkswagen</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>VWAGY</u></b>) and <b>Stellantis</b>(NYSE:<b><u>STLA</u></b>) now have bigger shares of the plug-in market.</p><p>The Bottom Line on TSLA Stock</p><p>Bulls look at CEO Elon Musk’s effort to buy <b>Twitter</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TWTR</u></b>) and worry that might distract him. They even bought Tesla when it seemed he might back off the Twitter purchase.</p><p>The Twitter saga tells me Musk is bored. Tesla is being run by car guys. The great strategic cut-and-thrust is mostly over. He wants to do something else. So don’t buy or sell Tesla stock based on Musk.</p><p>Look at the fundamentals. In the near term, they’re great, but you’re overpaying. Furthermore, given how NVDA had been closely tied to the cryptocurrency mining, we may expect reduced sales moving forward, seeing how the whole market had lost over $1T of combined value in recent days.</p><p>However, we encourage NVDA investors to ignore the noise as the stock remains a solid investment for the next decade. Nonetheless, please do not buy the dip as we expect the stock to retrace in the next few weeks, as the market grapples with the macro pessimism and crypto crash.</p><p><b>Why Did NVDA Fall From Grace?</b></p><p><b>NVDA Revenue, Net Income, and Gross Margin</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7c8b7f527622943487f298f58aec0a8f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"396\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Pre-pandemic, NVDA had grown its revenue and net income at a steady CAGR of 16.44% and 18.9%. It obviously grew exponentially in the past two years, given the massive demand for personal devices due to the increased remote work/ study/ entertainment options during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, NVDA grew its revenues at a tremendous CAGR of 57.05%, while its net income rose even faster at a CAGR of 86.94%. The company also steadily improved its gross margins from 58.8% in FY2017 to 64.9% in FY2022.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y Stock Price</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f98282f6ea46ae8ad6b84c285f70dc\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"229\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>As a result, it is evident that NVDA investors had benefited from its stellar growth, given that the stock had risen by 580% in the past two years, before the drastic moderation that occurred in late 2021.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y EV/Revenue and P/E Valuations</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bb56f00646af22e85bd8a43914c1b14a\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"228\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>However, we believe that the market correction is expected, given that NVDA was trading at ridiculous valuations at its peak, with EV/NTM Revenue of 28x and NTM P/E of 72.98x. That is way higher than Intel&#39;s (INTC) valuation of EV/NTM Revenue of 4.19x and NTM P/E of 15.47x in the past three years, and even AMD (AMD) at 10.59x and 65.39x, respectively. In hindsight, it is evident that NVDA has been highly (maybe over) valued, given its exposure to multiple market segments, such as AI technology, autonomous EVs, cloud computing servers, cryptocurrency, and metaverse, amongst others.</p><p>Nonetheless, we may also see a short-term impact, given Meta&#39;s (FB) slowing investments in the Reality Labs ( metaverse),reduced demand for GPUs from the crypto mining, and impacted auto production outputs from China&#39;s Zero Covid Policy. As a result, given the uncertainties, we expect the pain to continue for a while longer as the market consolidates in the next few quarters.</p><p>In the meantime, we encourage you to read our previous article on NVDA, which would help you better understand its market opportunities in the AI technology, automotive, and data center industries.</p><p><b>NVDA Is Still Investing In Growth, Though We See Short-Term Impacts</b></p><p><b>NVDA Cash/ Equivalents, FCF, and FCF Margins</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fdb6487d84c744bc4e43411a3930b4d1\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"396\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Nonetheless, NVDA has been an excellent Free Cash Flow (FCF) generator, while reporting its record-breaking FCF of $8.13B and FCF margins of 30.2% in FY2022. The company also ended the year with a decent $1.99B of cash and equivalents, which will prove helpful for its expanding R&amp;D expenses at an average of 21.5% to its annual revenues in the past five years.</p><p><b>NVDA R&amp;D Expenses and % to Revenue</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d2295ab78fcdb724f700193b47538ade\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"395\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Assuming that NVDA continues its reinvestments, we may expect the company to spend up to $7.4B in R&amp;D expenses for FY2023. As an investor myself, I believe that high-growth tech companies, such as NVDA, should build up their future capabilities and product innovations, to keep their advantage in the highly competitive semiconductor industry moving forward. Nonetheless, the risks are also inherent that many companies may slow down their Capex investments in the next few quarters, given the impending recession and rising interest rates. Consequently, NVDA may also reduce its R&amp;D expenses for the short term, given the potential deceleration in revenue growth.</p><p><b>NVDA Projected Revenue and Net Income</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d2badc1948a2e2ab65b118973f20c6a4\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"395\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Over the next three years, NVDA is expected to report impressive revenue and net income growth at a CAGR of 18.99% and 27.19%, respectively. For FY2023, consensus estimates that the company will report revenues of $34.77B and a net income of $14.39B, representing remarkable YoY growth of 29.2% and 47.5%, respectively.</p><p>Investors will be looking closely at NVDA&#39;s FQ1&#39;23 performance, in which it had guided for revenues of $8.1B and gross margins of 65.2%. Assuming that the company successfully smashed its own and consensus estimates of $8.09B, we can be sure of a short-term recovery. However, it is also important to note that NVDA is expected to record a one-time write-off worth $1.36B for the quarter, due to the collapse of the ARM acquisition. In addition, given the quarter&#39;s exposure to the prolonged lockdowns in China, NVDA&#39;s revenue may also be impacted negatively. As a result, we expect a mixed FQ1&#39;23 performance, potentially leading to a further decline in its stock performance. We shall see.</p><p><b>So, Is NVDA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?</b></p><p>NVDA is currently trading at an EV/NTM Revenue of 11.93x, and NTM P/E of 30x, lower than its 5Y mean of 13.34x and 39.91x, respectively. The stock is also trading at $171.24 on 19 May 2022, down 50% from 52 weeks high of $346.47. Given the recent market pessimism, there is a likelihood that the stock may retrace further below its 52 weeks low of $135.43 in the next few days, before recovering upon a positive catalyst, namely its FQ1&#39;23 earnings call on 25 May 2022.</p><p>Even then, the NVDA stock could potentially remain stagnant post-earnings, similar to its peer, AMD. The latter had reported stellar FQ1&#39;22 earnings, while also raising its FY2022 guidance. In response, the stock rose by 9% from $91.13 to $99.42 on 3 May 2022, before drifting sideways for the next two weeks to reach $96.67 on 19 May 2022. We can be sure that if such an upbeat earnings call had occurred during the heights of the pandemic, AMD would have seen a more pronounced growth in valuation and stock price, similar to the 25% growth after FQ3&#39;21 earnings and 15% growth after FQ2&#39;21 earnings. As a result, interested tech investors must be aware that we are in the midst of maximum pain, significantly worsened by the cryptocurrency winter, the ongoing Ukraine war, and China&#39;s Zero Covid Policy.</p><p>Given the uncertainties and reasons listed above, we may expect softer FQ2&#39;23 guidance from NVDA&#39;s management as well. Though the stock may seem an attractive buy at its current &#34;undervaluation,&#34; given its growth potential and promising pipeline, we would encourage prudence for now. We expect a more attractive entry point moving forward, after more clarity from its FQ1&#39;23 earnings call. We can be sure that if such an upbeat earnings call had occurred during the heights of the pandemic, AMD would have seen a more pronounced growth in valuation and stock price, similar to the 25% growth after FQ3'21 earnings and 15% growth after FQ2'21 earnings. As a result, interested tech investors must be aware that we are in the midst of maximum pain, significantly worsened by the cryptocurrency winter, the ongoing Ukraine war, and China's Zero Covid Policy.Given the uncertainties and reasons listed above, we may expect softer FQ2'23 guidance from NVDA's management as well. In the following sections, I will explain my reasoning for making this move.</p><p><b>You must take profits to make profits</b></p><p>I often quote my father, who was my mentor and an outstanding stockbroker. One of his mantras was &#34;You have to take profits to make profits.&#34; The meaning behind this is the fact it&#39;s all &#34;unrealized&#34; paper gains until you actually sell the security and transfer the proceeds into your checking account and/or into another investment. Further, he was very disciplined regarding when profits should be taken and why. Fortunately, I fell in love with my Tesla position and have held it way longer than my father ever would have, making it one of my most lucrative investments. Nevertheless, I endured several drawdowns over the years. Now, with Musk buying Twitter (TWTR) by pledging an additional $45 billion worth of Tesla shares, I have decided to take profits and sit this one out amongst other reasons. Let me explain.</p><p><b>Musk&#39;s highly leveraged Tesla position increases risk</b></p><p>Elon is buying a majority of Twitter by taking out a $49 billion margin loan against his Tesla shares. He already has pledged a substantial amount of Tesla shares previously, bringing his margin total to $89 billion. Further, Musk is the first lienholder on the Twitter position. He is on the hook for essentially the first $33 billion of Twitter, if by some chance they can&#39;t pay the bills.</p><p>Musk has already stated it&#39;s not about the money to him, so that doesn&#39;t necessarily give me a nice warm fuzzy feeling about the prospects. Further, if for some unforeseen reason Tesla shares fall and Musk gets a margin call, that would be a major debacle. It has happened before. Nearly 10 years ago to the day, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters demoted its founder and chairman, Robert Stiller, and its lead director, William Davis, after the high-flying coffee company&#39;s share-price plunged forced the men into emergency stock sales resulting from margin calls. In fact, many companies have banned the practice at this point. Now, this is definitely a &#34;backburner&#34; type issue as Musk is constantly receiving new shares and options, yet it is there in the back of my mind. Further, I really don&#39;t find the new Cybertruck appealing. I like Ford&#39;s F150 Lightning pickup, which leads me to my next point.</p><p><b>The competition has finally arrived</b></p><p>The Ford F150 Lightning is now officially in production. I have done my research on the truck and I love it. Ford CEO Jim Farley said on Monday:</p><blockquote><i>The company is not joking around by saying the electric F-150 lightning could be as big a product for the automaker as the Model T back in 1908.</i></blockquote><p>I would have to agree. Ford plans to scale production of the F-150 Lightning even faster than competitors, with plans to boost manufacturing of the Lightning at a plant in Dearborn to 150,000 units in the next year, up from an initial target of 40,000 vehicles.</p><p>What&#39;s more, Ford has secured the lithium-ion batteries needed to meet its expected level of production of 150,000 units next year. Moreover, the company plans to prioritize supplies of semiconductor chips toward the F-150 Lightning.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c42cd5b5effe20ffbbd01bed01c0e3bc\" tg-width=\"617\" tg-height=\"389\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Ford F150 Lightning Pickup (Ford website)</span></p><p>The response has been so overwhelming, Ford is no longer taking retail reservations at this time. Additionally, Ford isn&#39;t the only competition. As I&#39;m sure you are aware, there is a plethora of new EV vehicle entrants into the race. The primary reason I&#39;ve chosen to switch from Tesla to Ford is the product. Secondarily, is valuation. Let me explain.</p><p><b>Two completely different animals when it comes to valuation</b></p><p>Tesla trades at 16 times sales while Ford currently trading at 0.47 times sales. Basically, making Ford the Rodney Dangerfield of EV players – “Ford don&#39;t get no respect!” Ha! Now, Tesla may very well deserve its elevated valuation based on its growth rate trajectory and the value of said future cash flows. Nonetheless, under the current Federal Reserve regime, the value of these future cash flows may be diminished greatly by inflation and increased interest rates. I am making a conscious effort to reduce my exposure to &#34;long-duration assets.&#34; Let me explain why Ford presents a better opportunity under current conditions.</p><p><b>Ford significantly undervalued</b></p><p>First of all, Ford is basically trading for a song at the present valuation. Ford&#39;s forward P/E of 6.57 is just over a third of the current S&amp;P 500 Forward P/E of 19.44. The stock is trading for 1.2 times book of $12.14. If ever there was a bargain basement buying opportunity in Ford, this is it.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1ecd5be52cd449328e56f792ebe9ad27\" tg-width=\"467\" tg-height=\"134\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Ford Fundamentals (Finviz)</span></p><p>On top of this, management has done an excellent job of cleaning up the balance sheet. The company maintains a fortress balance sheet with $11.63 per share in cash alone. This helps me not just sleep well, but sleep like a baby at night. Furthermore, the stock has sold off substantially since the start of the year and appears to me to be at an inflection point.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5faca498ac9117d6d6aebc61f4c22dea\" tg-width=\"278\" tg-height=\"389\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Ford 2022 Performance (Finviz)</span></p><p>With the stock trading for rock bottom pricing and having the weak hands thoroughly shaken out over the last few months by the insipid macro environment, I suggest now is an excellent time to start a position heading into earnings. One of my top investing mentors, Sir John Templeton&#39;s quote of &#34;Buy at the point of maximum pessimism&#34; seems quite apropos. The market just experienced a 7 to 1 advance/decline trading day today with 7 stocks down for every 1 stock up. This qualifies as a substantial washout in my book. The baby has definitely been thrown out with the bath water in my book. Furthermore, the Ford CEO Jim Farley is a salesman extraordinaire.</p><p><b>Ford CEO Jim Farley is special</b></p><p>Ford&#39;s CEO Jim Farley has personality for days and is extremely competitive. His statement that the Ford F150 Lightning will be bigger than the model T is the proof in the pudding of what I say. Not to mention the electrifying Ford Mustang Mach-E which definitely lives up to the hype.</p><p>Farley has captured the attention of all, rivaling the likes of P.T. Barnum in some ways, much like his famous cousin Chris Farley of Saturday Night Live, who I absolutely adored. Yet, don&#39;t get me wrong, he has the wherewithal and business acumen to back it up. His career in automobiles was inspired by his grandfather who began working for Ford in 1914. I have faith that Farley will be able to present the best case for the company on the upcoming earnings call. Ford is due to report earnings on April 27th after the close.</p><p><b>Ford Earnings Preview</b></p><p>The following table details Ford&#39;s expected earnings estimates.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2b5856ccd7559c4442c6cfac6efae3d8\" tg-width=\"617\" tg-height=\"242\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>You can see that there have been six downward revisions over the last 90 days. With the stock down significantly going into earnings and expectations diminished, I see the company beating estimates and rising. Even so, the real focus will be on guidance, which has already &#34;quasi&#34; been announced with them revealing they will produce 150,000 F150 Lightning pickups rather than the original 40,000. I am expecting Ford to pop on earnings. This is why I made the move to sell Tesla and buy Ford ahead of the announcement. Nonetheless, I have only bought one-third of the position in order to reduce risk. In these situations where I have a positive outlook on earnings, I will divide the buys into thirds. One-third before earnings to gain a foothold, one-third after earnings, and one-third in reserve to buy on any future potential weakness. I always suggest layering into new positions over time to reduce risk. Now let&#39;s wrap it up.</p><p><b>Wrap up</b></p><p>I love Elon Musk and all that he has done for the country and the world frankly. Even so, adding Twitter to his endeavors in addition to Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, The Boring Company, and any others I may have forgotten, I think he may be reaching his limit. Further, he definitely has maxed out his Tesla margin credit card at this point, which gives me pause. Yet, the primary factor that sealed the deal for me was what I believe is Ford&#39;s superior product, the F150 Lightning, which I plan to buy as soon as available. On top of this, Ford&#39;s conservative valuation was a major selling point as well. The valuation factor is of particular import to me based on the recent change in the Federal Reserve&#39;s regime, from Dove to Hawk. And finally, I made this move in order to cash in and &#34;realize&#34; the substantial gains I had with my long-term Tesla position. I have held it in a tax advantaged account, so the capital gains created were not an issue for me. I bring this up because this transaction is particular to my unique situation. It may not be appropriate for all investors. That is why you should always consult a financial advisor before making any decisions regarding your investments. In the following sections, I will explain my reasoning for making this move.You must take profits to make profitsI often quote my father, who was my mentor and an outstanding stockbroker. One of his mantras was \"You have to take profits to make profits.\" The meaning behind this is the fact it's all \"unrealized\" paper gains until you actually sell the security and transfer the proceeds into your checking account and/or into another investment. Further, he was very disciplined regarding when profits should be taken and why. Fortunately, I fell in love with my Tesla position and have held it way longer than my father ever would have, making it one of my most lucrative investments. Nevertheless, I endured several drawdowns over the years. Now, with Musk buying Twitter (TWTR) by pledging an additional $45 billion worth of Tesla shares, I have decided to take profits and sit this one out amongst other reasons. Let me explain.Musk's highly leveraged Tesla position increases riskElon is buying a majority of Twitter by taking out a $49 billion margin loan against his Tesla shares. He already has pledged a substantial amount of Tesla shares previously, bringing his margin total to $89 billion. Further, Musk is the first lienholder on the Twitter position. He is on the hook for essentially the first $33 billion of Twitter, if by some chance they can't pay the bills.Musk has already stated it's not about the money to him, so that doesn't necessarily give me a nice warm fuzzy feeling about the prospects. Further, if for some unforeseen reason Tesla shares fall and Musk gets a margin call, that would be a major debacle. It has happened before. Nearly 10 years ago to the day, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters demoted its founder and chairman, Robert Stiller, and its lead director, William Davis, after the high-flying coffee company's share-price plunged forced the men into emergency stock sales resulting from margin calls. In fact, many companies have banned the practice at this point. Now, this is definitely a \"backburner\" type issue as Musk is constantly receiving new shares and options, yet it is there in the back of my mind. Further, I really don't find the new Cybertruck appealing. I like Ford's F150 Lightning pickup, which leads me to my next point.The competition has finally arrivedThe Ford F150 Lightning is now officially in production. I have done my research on the truck and I love it. Ford CEO Jim Farley said on Monday:The company is not joking around by saying the electric F-150 lightning could be as big a product for the automaker as the Model T back in 1908.I would have to agree. Ford plans to scale production of the F-150 Lightning even faster than competitors, with plans to boost manufacturing of the Lightning at a plant in Dearborn to 150,000 units in the next year, up from an initial target of 40,000 vehicles.What's more, Ford has secured the lithium-ion batteries needed to meet its expected level of production of 150,000 units next year. Moreover, the company plans to prioritize supplies of semiconductor chips toward the F-150 Lightning.Ford F150 Lightning Pickup (Ford website)The response has been so overwhelming, Ford is no longer taking retail reservations at this time. Additionally, Ford isn't the only competition. As I'm sure you are aware, there is a plethora of new EV vehicle entrants into the race. The primary reason I've chosen to switch from Tesla to Ford is the product. Secondarily, is valuation. Let me explain.Two completely different animals when it comes to valuationTesla trades at 16 times sales while Ford currently trading at 0.47 times sales. Basically, making Ford the Rodney Dangerfield of EV players – “Ford don't get no respect!” Ha! Now, Tesla may very well deserve its elevated valuation based on its growth rate trajectory and the value of said future cash flows. Nonetheless, under the current Federal Reserve regime, the value of these future cash flows may be diminished greatly by inflation and increased interest rates. I am making a conscious effort to reduce my exposure to \"long-duration assets.\" Let me explain why Ford presents a better opportunity under current conditions.Ford significantly undervaluedFirst of all, Ford is basically trading for a song at the present valuation. Ford's forward P/E of 6.57 is just over a third of the current S&P 500 Forward P/E of 19.44. The stock is trading for 1.2 times book of $12.14. If ever there was a bargain basement buying opportunity in Ford, this is it.Ford Fundamentals (Finviz)On top of this, management has done an excellent job of cleaning up the balance sheet. The company maintains a fortress balance sheet with $11.63 per share in cash alone. This helps me not just sleep well, but sleep like a baby at night. Furthermore, the stock has sold off substantially since the start of the year and appears to me to be at an inflection point.Ford 2022 Performance (Finviz)With the stock trading for rock bottom pricing and having the weak hands thoroughly shaken out over the last few months by the insipid macro environment, I suggest now is an excellent time to start a position heading into earnings. One of my top investing mentors, Sir John Templeton's quote of \"Buy at the point of maximum pessimism\" seems quite apropos. The market just experienced a 7 to 1 advance/decline trading day today with 7 stocks down for every 1 stock up. This qualifies as a substantial washout in my book. The baby has definitely been thrown out with the bath water in my book. Furthermore, the Ford CEO Jim Farley is a salesman extraordinaire.Ford CEO Jim Farley is specialFord's CEO Jim Farley has personality for days and is extremely competitive. His statement that the Ford F150 Lightning will be bigger than the model T is the proof in the pudding of what I say. Not to mention the electrifying Ford Mustang Mach-E which definitely lives up to the hype.Farley has captured the attention of all, rivaling the likes of P.T. Barnum in some ways, much like his famous cousin Chris Farley of Saturday Night Live, who I absolutely adored. Yet, don't get me wrong, he has the wherewithal and business acumen to back it up. His career in automobiles was inspired by his grandfather who began working for Ford in 1914. I have faith that Farley will be able to present the best case for the company on the upcoming earnings call. Ford is due to report earnings on April 27th after the close.Ford Earnings PreviewThe following table details Ford's expected earnings estimates.Seeking AlphaYou can see that there have been six downward revisions over the last 90 days. With the stock down significantly going into earnings and expectations diminished, I see the company beating estimates and rising. Even so, the real focus will be on guidance, which has already \"quasi\" been announced with them revealing they will produce 150,000 F150 Lightning pickups rather than the original 40,000. I am expecting Ford to pop on earnings. This is why I made the move to sell Tesla and buy Ford ahead of the announcement. Nonetheless, I have only bought one-third of the position in order to reduce risk. In these situations where I have a positive outlook on earnings, I will divide the buys into thirds. One-third before earnings to gain a foothold, one-third after earnings, and one-third in reserve to buy on any future potential weakness. I always suggest layering into new positions over time to reduce risk. Now let's wrap it up.Wrap upI love Elon Musk and all that he has done for the country and the world frankly. Even so, adding Twitter to his endeavors in addition to Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, The Boring Company, and any others I may have forgotten, I think he may be reaching his limit. Further, he definitely has maxed out his Tesla margin credit card at this point, which gives me pause. Yet, the primary factor that sealed the deal for me was what I believe is Ford's superior product, the F150 Lightning, which I plan to buy as soon as available. On top of this, Ford's conservative valuation was a major selling point as well. The valuation factor is of particular import to me based on the recent change in the Federal Reserve's regime, from Dove to Hawk. And finally, I made this move in order to cash in and \"realize\" the substantial gains I had with my long-term Tesla position. I have held it in a tax advantaged account, so the capital gains created were not an issue for me. I bring this up because this transaction is particular to my unique situation. We may find out that it doesn&#39;t need to be as fearful as this, and markets do tend to overreact on the downside.&#34;</p><p>All of the 11 S&amp;P 500 sector indexes declined, with consumer discretionary and consumer staples leading the way lower, both down more than 6%.</p><p>Rising inflation, the conflict in Ukraine, prolonged supply chain snarls, pandemic-related lockdowns in China and monetary policy tightening by central banks have weighed on financial markets recently, stoking concerns about a global economic slowdown.</p><p>Wells Fargo Investment Institute on Wednesday said it expects a mild U.S. recession at the end of 2022 and early 2023.</p><p>Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell vowed on Tuesday that the U.S central bank will raise rates as high as needed to kill a surge in inflation that he said threatened the foundation of the economy.</p><p>Traders are pricing in 50-basis point interest rate hikes by the Fed in June and July.</p><p>Unofficially, the S&amp;P 500 declined 4.04% to end the session at 3,923.68 points.</p><p>The Nasdaq declined 4.73% to 11,418.15 points, while Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 3.57% to 31,490.07 points.</p><p>The S&amp;P 500 is down about 18% so far in 2022 and the Nasdaq has fallen about 27%, hit by tumbling growth stocks. Almost two-thirds of S&amp;P 500 stocks are down 20% or more from their 52-week highs, according to Refinitiv data.</p><p>Wall Street&#39;s recent sell-off has left the S&amp;P 500 trading at around 17 times expected earnings, its lowest PE valuation since the 2020 sell-off caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to Refinitiv data.</p><p>The CBOE volatility index, also known as Wall Street&#39;s fear gauge, rose to 31 points after falling for six straight sessions.</p><p>Volume on U.S. exchanges was 12.5 billion shares, compared with a 13.4 billion average over the last 20 trading days.</p><p>Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 5.09-to-1 ratio;
