The annual event is typically a chance for the tech company to introduce changes to the software used everyday by millions of people.</p>\n<p>eyond new gadgets and the introduction of iOS 15, WWDC will also be an opportunity for Apple to address its developer community in the midst of two major recent spats with app makers — a contentious legal battle with Fortnite-maker Epic Games over its App Store fees and a feud with Facebook (FB) over Apple's new app-tracking privacy policy.</p>\n<p>This year, for the second time, Apple's WWDC will be held online, though there will still be plenty for developers to do virtually, including more than 200 sessions on how to build new apps and services.</p>\n<p>The event begins with a keynote at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, June 7. Here's what to expect based on the latest reports and rumors.</p>\n<p><b>New gadgets</b></p>\n<p>The most significant hardware announcement expected during WWDC is the introduction of a redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro, and possibly a 14-inch version, too, Bloomberg has reported.</p>\n<p>The device — like other recent computer and iPad launches from the company — would likely be built with Apple's M1 chip, which it has said provides longer battery life and faster processing speeds, among other benefits. The new laptop could also bring back the popular MagSafe power connector, Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said in an email last week.</p>\n<p>Among other hardware updates, Apple could announce a new version of its AirPods, a breakout product for the company but one that is facing increasing competition from the likes of Google and others.</p>\n<p>\"I'm sure Apple is aware of that competition\" and has plans to counter it, said Mike Bailey, director of research at FBB Capital Partners.</p>\n<p>Finally, the iPad could get major new operating system updates, after Apple introduced a new iPad Pro with its M1 chip last fall.</p>\n<p>\"We expect to see the lines between the Mac and the iPad continue to blur with powerful demos of high-performance video editing software and more,\" Wood said.</p>\n<p><b>iMessage gets a social media makeover</b></p>\n<p>Based on the company's promotional materials for WWDC, a centerpiece of the event could be iMessage, the messaging service used by countless Apple device owners.</p>\n<p>The iPhone maker has been working to make iMessage more like a social media platform that competes with Facebook's WhatsApp. Bloomberg reported that iOS 15 iMessage updates will include new options for automatic replies, beyond the existing auto-reply for when users are driving.</p>\n<p>This could further inflame the tensions with Facebook that emerged over privacy.</p>\n<p><b>Focus on privacy</b></p>\n<p>Industry watchers expect Apple to double down on its privacy focus during WWDC this year.</p>\n<p>At last year's conference, Apple announced its iOS 14.5 update that now gives users the option to deny apps permission to track their activity, a move that has drawn the ire of Facebook, which uses this data to target ads. past week to $1.9 trillion. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, slid some 11% Wednesday to break below $40,000 and is now about $25,000 off its record high set in April.</p>\n<p>Multiple factors are at play, ranging from criticism of the environmental impact of Bitcoin’s energy usage by onetime proponent Elon Musk, to the risk of a regulatory squeeze on what some have called the Wild West of investing. Meanwhile, Dogecoin's moat is practically nonexistent.</p>\n<p>I also like that Amazon can continue to deliver solid growth without requiring anything extraordinary to happen. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic fueled online sales, e-commerce still accounted for only 14% of total retail sales in the U.S. last year.</p>\n<p>Amazon also has multiple ways to generate additional growth. The company is expanding into telehealth. Its&nbsp;ad business could double&nbsp;within the next two years. Amazon has invested in self-driving-car technology. That's just the tip of the iceberg. As for Dogecoin, it's totally dependent on having investors choose it over a growing list of other cryptocurrencies.</p>\n<p><b>Disney</b></p>\n<p>As adorable as Dogecoin's Shiba Inu mascot is, my view is that the better dogs to bet on are Goofy, the 101 Dalmatians, Lady, Tramp, and Pluto. I'm referring, of course, to investing in shares of&nbsp;<b>Walt Disney</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:DIS).</p>\n<p>There's one thing Disney has that Dogecoin very well might not -- staying power. For decades, fans have enjoyed the company's movies, theme parks, TV shows, and more. And the Disney brand is as strong as ever.</p>\n<p>Sure, the company was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, things are&nbsp;returning to normal at Disney World. Disney&nbsp;land in California has reopened at long last. The increasing availability of vaccines should help Disney regain its stride.</p>\n<p>I think Disney has plenty of growth opportunities over the next decade and beyond. Its Disney+ streaming service especially stands out. Look for the House of Mouse to expand heavily into augmented reality as well. Microsoft recently snagged a huge contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to supply AR headsets. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. Virgin Galactic lost 6%, while Apple shed about 2%.</p><p>Yahoo Finance takes a quick look at what could be driving the reassessment of richly valued tech stocks by Mr. Market.</p><h2>Fed member spooks growth investors</h2><p>Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester sparked concern on stock valuations and inflation in an exclusive interview with our Brian Cheung on Yahoo Finance Live.</p><p>\"My read is that there is certainly in terms of equity prices there is upward — they are high. There is upward valuation pressure there,\" Mester said.</p><p>Mester also appeared to be open to letting inflation run hot — something tech investors probably didn't want to hear. In effect, it raises the potential for the Fed to perhaps lift rates in 2022 to combat inflation, which is often not a good backdrop for investors in tech who prefer to invest alongside low interest rates.</p><p>The Fed’s target on inflation is 2%.</p><p>“Seeing inflation move up to two and somewhat above 2 [percent] is not a problem,” Mester said in the interview.</p><h2>Goldman keeps it real on taxes and tech</h2><p>The week didn't start well for tech investors as a note out by Goldman Sachs on tech profits was widely chatted about on the Street.</p><p>\"If the Biden corporate tax plan were fully enacted, FAAMG [<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FB\">Facebook</a>, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google] 2022 estimated earnings would decrease by roughly 9% relative to consensus expectations,\" Goldman Sachs chief U.S. equity strategist David Kostin said.</p><p>The Biden administration is seeking to lift the corporate tax rate to 28% from the Trump-era's 21%.</p><p>He is also readying to increase the capital gains tax on the wealthiest Americans to 43.4%, including a surtax to help fund infrastructure investments. The current capital gains tax stands at a top rate of 23.8%, which has been in place since Jan. 1, 2013. Kostin added that FAAMG stocks are also vulnerable to any increase in the capital gains tax.</p><p>\"If the capital gains tax rate becomes set to rise in 2022, investors subject to the higher rate may choose to realize some of their substantial capital gains in 2021 at the lower current tax rate. The FAAMG stocks have appreciated by $5 trillion during the last 5 years, accounting for 29% of the S&amp;P 500 market cap increase during that time,\" Kostin said.</p><h2>Tech stocks break down on the charts</h2><p>The weakness in tech stocks these past five sessions has spurred technical breakdowns on the charts, Wall Street observers note. In other words, tech stock bulls are losing the battle in sentiment to the bears and it's unclear right now what shifts the narrative back.</p><p>\"Even though the Nasdaq (and the broad XLK tech ETF) were not hit as hard as the chip stocks were yesterday, they still saw some considerable weakness. The Nasdaq closed RIGHT ON its own 100-day moving average. That line has been an even better support level for the Nasdaq…bouncing off of it four other times since September of last year.
