The video game retailer plummeted 27% on Thursday, but it moved nicely higher the other four days of the week -- trimming its weeklong decline to just 6%.</li>\n <li>AMC closed out the week with a 3% gain, following the 83% burst higher the week before. The multiplex operator is benefiting from a surge in box office receipts, but they continue to track at less than half of where the industry was two years ago.</li>\n <li>Finally we have Carnival sinking 2% for the week. Cruise stocks have been buoyant ahead of a return to sailing this month, but we're already seeing COVID-19 cases pop up in the limited number of voyages taking place so far.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Those three stocks averaged a 1.7% decline for the week. The <b>S&amp;P 500</b> rose by 0.4% in that time, so I won. Right now, I see <b>Royal Caribbean</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:RCL), AMC Entertainment Holdings, and <b>Osprey Bitcoin Trust</b> (OTC:OBTC) as vulnerable investments in the near term. Here's why I think these are three stocks to avoid this week.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/844fa22418b0d6398103c6917b0d7eb3\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"459\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>1. Royal Caribbean</h2>\n<p>This was supposed to be the summer that the cruise industry finally roars back into being, but we're already seeing some choppy waters. Royal Caribbean's <i>Celebrity Millennium</i> became the first major cruise ship available to North American seafarers earlier this month since the industry shut down last March. A few days into the maiden voyage, a pair of passengers contracted the COVID-19 virus.</p>\n<p>There's also an operational standoff in Royal Caribbean's home state of Florida, where the governor is threatening to fine cruise lines for requiring vaccinations of its passengers. It's a Catch-22 for the industry, as the CDC requires at least 95% of a ship's passengers to be fully vaccinated to resume sailings without having to go through a series of costly test cruises.</p>\n<p>Royal Caribbean is my favorite of the three cruise lines as an investment, but it's also held up the best during the lull. With the reopening off to a bumpy start it also makes the stock vulnerable here.</p>\n<h2><b>2. AMC Entertainment</b></h2>\n<p>I'm a fan of a lot that AMC Entertainment has done to get bet better at a time when many of its smaller rivals have been merely walking in place. The country's largest multiplex operator has upped its seat reservations and mobile order tech and carved out a new revenue stream with actively promoted private rentals. The new Investor Connect program is sheer genius, monetizing its newborn attention as a meme stock with millions of retail investors by trying to convert them into customers.</p>\n<p>However, after ballooning its share count north of 500 million -- and the stock still moving higher -- there will eventually be a price to be paid in terms of valuation. AMC Entertainment enters this week with an enterprise value above $35 billion, and sooner or later someone is going to have to pay the tab at the end of the party.</p>\n<p>AMC is doing the right things to stay on top of a declining industry, but it's not enough to justify today's sticker price.&nbsp; This has historically been a low-margin business -- in the low single digits for net margin most years -- despite the markup on concessions. You'll see a year-over-year bounce this year, but we may never return to 2019 as a baseline. Theatrical release windows are being shattered by streaming initiatives. AMC has bloated its debt levels and share count to stay alive, but all of this comes at a price that right now seems too dear to pay.</p>\n<h2>3. Osprey Bitcoin Trust</h2>\n<p>I believe in keeping a small percent of your risk-tolerant portfolio in crypto, but not every vehicle is in the same boat. Osprey Bitcoin Trust offers investors a low-cost way to play the popularity of <b>Bitcoin</b> (CRYPTO:BTC) in a stock exchange-listed vehicle.</p>\n<p>Osprey Bitcoin Trust is a lot smaller than the market's original Bitcoin-owning trust, and it's also trading at an unsustainable premium. Osprey's mark-up to its stake of Bitcoin tokens has been contracting since hitting the market earlier this year, and I was starting to get interested when the premium narrowed to 12% a week ago.</p>\n<p>The mark-up is going the wrong way again. Osprey Bitcoin Trust owns what is currently $12.68 in Bitcoin, but it closed last week at $14.95. The multiplex operator is benefiting from a surge in box office receipts, but they continue to track at less than half of where the industry was two years ago.\nFinally we have Carnival sinking 2% for the week. Cruise stocks have been buoyant ahead of a return to sailing this month, but we're already seeing COVID-19 cases pop up in the limited number of voyages taking place so far.\n\nThose three stocks averaged a 1.7% decline for the week. Certain stocks that have performed well when rates fell in the past might just be big winners again.\nInvestors anticipated higher interest rates this year as the economy reopens, triggering big growth and inflation. Yet despite some high inflation readings, rates have started reversing lower.\nThe May consumer price index came in hotter-than-expected on Thursday, jumping 5% from a year earlier — the fastest pace since 2008. Even so, the 10-year Treasury yield fell as low as 1.43% this week, down from its high for the year of 1.77% and the lowest level in three months.\nCNBC PRO identified eight periods of significant drops in the 10-year Treasury yield over the past decade. We then calculated the median return for S&P 500 stocks during those periods. The stocks below had the best returns during periods when the 10-year yield was falling.\nWhat’s more, we filtered out stocks that are currently not loved by analysts. And history fits that theory, with many tech names making the list of top low-rate performers.\nBig tech names like Amazon,Microsoft and Google-parent Alphabet made CNBC PRO’s screen — and it looks those stocks are already seeing some interest from investors. Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet are on track to gain a few percentage points this week.\nHigh-growth stock Nvidia is also on the list. Shares of the chip maker are up more than 30% in 2021 and have more than doubled in the past 12 months.\nReal estate investment trusts like Equinix,SBA Communications and Prologis also make CNBC PRO’s list. REITs typically perform well amid lower rates because they pay out a large portion of their revenue to investors in the form of dividends. This came despite&nbsp;closing 12% of the company’s stores..</p>\n<p>As of May 1 there was still $770.8 million of cash on the books, as the company sold new shares to engineer a turn toward e-commerce, led by former executives of&nbsp;<b>Amazon.Com</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>).</p>\n<p>Why, then, did the shares collapse? Because the numbers don’t matter. What matters is how small traders at WallStreetBets feel, and they’re feeling ripped off. Outgoing CEO George Sherman left with stock vested at&nbsp;$179 million. Other executives also made out&nbsp;big. The new guys could also net millions,without performing,from the stock’s gains.</p>\n<p>So far these are the game’s big winners.</p>\n<p><b>GME Stock: Is the Squeeze Still On?</b></p>\n<p>The price of Gamestop stock is not based on fundamentals. It’s based on a short squeeze, or the perception of one. With Gamestop adding a new shelf registration to issue new shares (which shorts can buy to cover their bets), that perception is diminishing.</p>\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<b>Twitter</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TWTR</u></b>) account of Wallstreetbets,the most popular tickers&nbsp;on June 11&nbsp;are&nbsp;<b>AMC Entertainment Holdings</b>(NYSE:<b><u>AMC</u></b>),<b>Blackberry</b>(NYSE:<b><u>BB</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Clover Health</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CLOV</u></b>). Gamestop is missing. This despite&nbsp;Igor Dusaniwsky of S3 Partners&nbsp;giving the stock a “short squeeze score” of 100 out of 100. (He used to measure it as 10 out of 10, but 100 sounds bigger.)</p>\n<p>Not all the juice has been squeezed. After falling 27% on June 10, shares bounced back in the thin pre-market trade June 11, recovering a small portion of the loss. What’s most scary to traders is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)&nbsp;investigation of past trading activity.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>What’s keeping the shares afloat, besides money inspired by the memes, is bearish commentary, like Baird calling Gamestop&nbsp;worthless.&nbsp;Such comments encourage shorts, and shorts encourage the squeeze.</p>\n<p><b>Ryan Cohen’s Play</b></p>\n<p>The practical result of the Gamestop squeeze has been to install&nbsp;<b>Chewy</b>(NYSE:<b><u>CHWY</u></b>) co-founder Ryan Cohen as chairman and, now, Amazon veteran Mike Furlong as CEO. Furlong wasn’t with the Amazon Web Services cloud unit. He was&nbsp;head of Australia operations.The new Chief Financial Officer is&nbsp;Mike Recupero, who had been running numbers for Amazon Prime Video.</p>\n<p>Together, these three men are supposed to create a great, grand new business model for Gamestop, based on the Internet. So far, this has meant&nbsp;fixing up a warehouse in Pennsylvania&nbsp;to sell games and systems online.</p>\n<p>But that’s not going to justify a market cap of $15.8 billion, which is 3 times sales at the first quarter run rate. If Gamestop could use the gamers’ cash hoard to help Amazon spin-out Twitch, its video game entertainment unit, that might be tempting. If it could use that hoard to help take Gabe Newell’s Valve public, that might also be interesting.</p>\n<p>Trouble is, that last paragraph is pure speculation. So far as I know, no move toward cloud gaming is contemplated.</p>\n<p><b>GME Stock: The Bottom Line</b></p>\n<p>I never recommend shorting stocks. Even when you’re right you can be wrong.</p>\n<p>When you short a stock you’re borrowing it, promising to buy it back. That means a hedge fund, or just a mean online gang, can bid up shares and squeeze you, without regard to fundamentals.</p>\n<p>The game is 150 years old, but the modern model is the&nbsp;<b>Herbalife</b>(NYSE:<b><u>HLF</u></b>) squeeze of the last decade.I covered the story for<i>TheStreet</i>.&nbsp;Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman publicly bet against Herbalife in late 2012. Other hedge funds then supported the stock. Ackman lost his bet.</p>\n<p>Since the height of the squeeze, at the end of 2013, Herbalife is up 56%. Because the numbers don’t matter. What matters is how small traders at WallStreetBets feel, and they’re feeling ripped off. Outgoing CEO George Sherman left with stock vested at $179 million. Other executives also made out big. The new guys could also net millions,without performing,from the stock’s gains.\nSo far these are the game’s big winners.\nGME Stock: Is the Squeeze Still On?\nThe price of Gamestop stock is not based on fundamentals. It’s based on a short squeeze, or the perception of one. With Gamestop adding a new shelf registration to issue new shares (which shorts can buy to cover their bets), that perception is diminishing.\nAccording to the Twitter(NASDAQ:TWTR) account of Wallstreetbets,the most popular tickers on June 11 are AMC Entertainment Holdings(NYSE:AMC),Blackberry(NYSE:BB) and Clover Health(NASDAQ:CLOV). Gamestop is missing. This despite Igor Dusaniwsky of S3 Partners giving the stock a “short squeeze score” of 100 out of 100. (He used to measure it as 10 out of 10, but 100 sounds bigger.)\nNot all the juice has been squeezed. After falling 27% on June 10, shares bounced back in the thin pre-market trade June 11, recovering a small portion of the loss. What’s most scary to traders is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation of past trading activity. \nWhat’s keeping the shares afloat, besides money inspired by the memes, is bearish commentary, like Baird calling Gamestop worthless. Such comments encourage shorts, and shorts encourage the squeeze.\nRyan Cohen’s Play\nThe practical result of the Gamestop squeeze has been to install Chewy(NYSE:CHWY) co-founder Ryan Cohen as chairman and, now, Amazon veteran Mike Furlong as CEO. Furlong wasn’t with the Amazon Web Services cloud unit. He was head of Australia operations.The new Chief Financial Officer is Mike Recupero, who had been running numbers for Amazon Prime Video.\nTogether, these three men are supposed to create a great, grand new business model for Gamestop, based on the Internet. So far, this has meant fixing up a warehouse in Pennsylvania to sell games and systems online.\nBut that’s not going to justify a market cap of $15.8 billion, which is 3 times sales at the first quarter run rate. If Gamestop could use the gamers’ cash hoard to help Amazon spin-out Twitch, its video game entertainment unit, that might be tempting. If it could use that hoard to help take Gabe Newell’s Valve public, that might also be interesting.\nTrouble is, that last paragraph is pure speculation. So far as I know, no move toward cloud gaming is contemplated.\nGME Stock: The Bottom Line\nI never recommend shorting stocks. The multiplex operator is benefiting from a surge in box office receipts, but they continue to track at less than half of where the industry was two years ago.</li>\n <li>Finally we have Carnival sinking 2% for the week. Cruise stocks have been buoyant ahead of a return to sailing this month, but we're already seeing COVID-19 cases pop up in the limited number of voyages taking place so far.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Those three stocks averaged a 1.7% decline for the week. The <b>S&amp;P 500</b> rose by 0.4% in that time, so I won. Right now, I see <b>Royal Caribbean</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:RCL), AMC Entertainment Holdings, and <b>Osprey Bitcoin Trust</b> (OTC:OBTC) as vulnerable investments in the near term. Here's why I think these are three stocks to avoid this week.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/844fa22418b0d6398103c6917b0d7eb3\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"459\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>1. Royal Caribbean</h2>\n<p>This was supposed to be the summer that the cruise industry finally roars back into being, but we're already seeing some choppy waters. Royal Caribbean's <i>Celebrity Millennium</i> became the first major cruise ship available to North American seafarers earlier this month since the industry shut down last March. A few days into the maiden voyage, a pair of passengers contracted the COVID-19 virus.</p>\n<p>There's also an operational standoff in Royal Caribbean's home state of Florida, where the governor is threatening to fine cruise lines for requiring vaccinations of its passengers. It's a Catch-22 for the industry, as the CDC requires at least 95% of a ship's passengers to be fully vaccinated to resume sailings without having to go through a series of costly test cruises.</p>\n<p>Royal Caribbean is my favorite of the three cruise lines as an investment, but it's also held up the best during the lull. With the reopening off to a bumpy start it also makes the stock vulnerable here.</p>\n<h2><b>2. AMC Entertainment</b></h2>\n<p>I'm a fan of a lot that AMC Entertainment has done to get bet better at a time when many of its smaller rivals have been merely walking in place. The country's largest multiplex operator has upped its seat reservations and mobile order tech and carved out a new revenue stream with actively promoted private rentals. The new Investor Connect program is sheer genius, monetizing its newborn attention as a meme stock with millions of retail investors by trying to convert them into customers.</p>\n<p>However, after ballooning its share count north of 500 million -- and the stock still moving higher -- there will eventually be a price to be paid in terms of valuation. AMC Entertainment enters this week with an enterprise value above $35 billion, and sooner or later someone is going to have to pay the tab at the end of the party.</p>\n<p>AMC is doing the right things to stay on top of a declining industry, but it's not enough to justify today's sticker price.&nbsp; This has historically been a low-margin business -- in the low single digits for net margin most years -- despite the markup on concessions. You'll see a year-over-year bounce this year, but we may never return to 2019 as a baseline. Theatrical release windows are being shattered by streaming initiatives. AMC has bloated its debt levels and share count to stay alive, but all of this comes at a price that right now seems too dear to pay.</p>\n<h2>3. Osprey Bitcoin Trust</h2>\n<p>I believe in keeping a small percent of your risk-tolerant portfolio in crypto, but not every vehicle is in the same boat. Osprey Bitcoin Trust offers investors a low-cost way to play the popularity of <b>Bitcoin</b> (CRYPTO:BTC) in a stock exchange-listed vehicle.</p>\n<p>Osprey Bitcoin Trust is a lot smaller than the market's original Bitcoin-owning trust, and it's also trading at an unsustainable premium. Osprey's mark-up to its stake of Bitcoin tokens has been contracting since hitting the market earlier this year, and I was starting to get interested when the premium narrowed to 12% a week ago.</p>\n<p>The mark-up is going the wrong way again. Osprey Bitcoin Trust owns what is currently $12.68 in Bitcoin, but it closed last week at $14.95. Yet despite some high inflation readings, rates have started reversing lower.\nThe May consumer price index came in hotter-than-expected on Thursday, jumping 5% from a year earlier — the fastest pace since 2008. Even so, the 10-year Treasury yield fell as low as 1.43% this week, down from its high for the year of 1.77% and the lowest level in three months.\nCNBC PRO identified eight periods of significant drops in the 10-year Treasury yield over the past decade. We then calculated the median return for S&P 500 stocks during those periods. The stocks below had the best returns during periods when the 10-year yield was falling.\nWhat’s more, we filtered out stocks that are currently not loved by analysts. The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or Jolts, showed&nbsp;a record 9.3 million unfilled openings&nbsp;in April. In addition, 384,000 people left their positions that month, bringing the total of voluntary job quitters to a record four million.</p>\n<p>Anecdotal evidence, including some in the Fed’s beige book summary of economic conditions prepared for the coming meeting, suggests that employers aren’t finding enough workers because of generous unemployment compensation. Unusual for a social science such as economics, there will be a real-time experiment to test this hypothesis as 25 states end the extra $300 weekly payment early.</p>\n<p>Jefferies economists Aneta Markowska and Thomas Simons write in a research note that these 25 states account for about a quarter of all the unemployed workers. Ending their extra jobless benefits could boost employment by roughly two million in the next few months, they estimate. Another growth spurt should follow in September and October after the extra unemployment insurance expires in the remaining states; schools reopen—providing free daycare for some would-be workers, especially women; and many office employees return to their desks, they add.</p>\n<p>At that point, the Fed might start talking about actually reducing its massive securities purchases. Given the “taper tantrum” thrown by the markets when the central bank slowed its bond buying in 2013, this Fed will want to disclose how, when, and how fast it plans to slow its pour into the punch bowl.
