However, the economy has shifted lately, and the auto sector is stuck with demand-side issues.

Providing substance to my claim is a recent statement by OL USA Chief Executive Officer Alan Baer: “Some industries are forecasting purchase order reductions of 20 to 30 percent, while others see no interruptions in their order flow. Overall, the risk appears to be to the downside. The decrease appears tied to economic uncertainty and not the migration of operations out of China.”

It’s easy to see why certain companies would aim to reduce inventory, and I base my claim on economic policies, as well as the interlinkages within our global economy. To elaborate, I’d like to use the U.S. Treasury yield curve as a reference point. The curve suggests that interest rates will rise for the next two years, subsequently eroding the spending power of the everyday consumer for the foreseeable future.

Source: Gurufocus

Nio’s Q1 Loss Widens

Nio delivered better-than-expected revenue and earnings when it announced first-quarter results earlier this month. However, while revenue was up 24% year over year to $1.56 billion, the loss of$281.2 million was much steeper than the year-ago loss of $68.8 million.

Nio’s deliveries were hit by coronavirus-related shutdowns in China, with the company delivering just 5,074 EVs in April and 7,024 in May.

Nio’s outlook also disappointed the Street. Management said it anticipates second-quarter revenue between $1.47 billion and $1.59 billion. Analysts had been calling for $1.74 billion.

Lastly, NIO’s gross margins are a continuing concern, as they retreated to 14.6% in Q1 from 19.5% the year before.

The Bottom Line on NIO Stock

Based on various data points, I see a company that doesn’t exhibit a pathway to economies of scale, leaving it with a mountain to climb during this challenging economic period.

In addition, NIO’sreturn on invested capital (ROIC) of -29.47% implies that it’s struggling to obtain further market share without underpricing its vehicles in the marketplace.

The latest surge in NIO stock probably isn’t warranted. However, the economy has shifted lately, and the auto sector is stuck with demand-side issues.Providing substance to my claim is a recent statement by OL USA Chief Executive Officer Alan Baer: “Some industries are forecasting purchase order reductions of 20 to 30 percent, while others see no interruptions in their order flow. Overall, the risk appears to be to the downside. The decrease appears tied to economic uncertainty and not the migration of operations out of China.”It’s easy to see why certain companies would aim to reduce inventory, and I base my claim on economic policies, as well as the interlinkages within our global economy. To elaborate, I’d like to use the U.S. Treasury yield curve as a reference point. The curve suggests that interest rates will rise for the next two years, subsequently eroding the spending power of the everyday consumer for the foreseeable future.Source: GurufocusNio’s Q1 Loss WidensNio delivered better-than-expected revenue and earnings when it announced first-quarter results earlier this month. However, while revenue was up 24% year over year to $1.56 billion, the loss of$281.2 million was much steeper than the year-ago loss of $68.8 million.Nio’s deliveries were hit by coronavirus-related shutdowns in China, with the company delivering just 5,074 EVs in April and 7,024 in May.Nio’s outlook also disappointed the Street. Management said it anticipates second-quarter revenue between $1.47 billion and $1.59 billion. Analysts had been calling for $1.74 billion.Lastly, NIO’s gross margins are a continuing concern, as they retreated to 14.6% in Q1 from 19.5% the year before. The Bottom Line on NIO StockBased on various data points, I see a company that doesn’t exhibit a pathway to economies of scale, leaving it with a mountain to climb during this challenging economic period. In addition, NIO’sreturn on invested capital (ROIC) of -29.47% implies that it’s struggling to obtain further market share without underpricing its vehicles in the marketplace. The latest surge in NIO stock probably isn’t warranted. Shares are severely overvalued, trading at nearly 6 times sales and more than 120 times cash flow.NIO stock is a strong sell.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":201,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9965972866,"gmtCreate":1669886431355,"gmtModify":1676538263314,"author":{"id":"3582946466474986","authorId":"3582946466474986","name":"Slsebast","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5e6cb07de6d0a1ecc7d173d350831e6","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582946466474986","authorIdStr":"3582946466474986"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nope","listText":"Nope","text":"Nope","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9965972866","repostId":"1155654122","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1155654122","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1669909390,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1155654122?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-01 23:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Will iPhone 14 Troubles Drag Apple Stock in December?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1155654122","media":"The Street","summary":"The holiday quarter is shaping up to be a tough one for Apple due to supply issues. Should Apple stock investors worry?

The news flow continues to be predominantly bearish for Apple stock and its investors. So far this post-Thanksgiving week, shares have already dipped 5%, a good bit more than the S&P 500’s more modest decline.

The culprit remains the same of the past few weeks: the shortage of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max devices. Could this be the beginning of a decline in share price that persists through December, or just a bump in the road that AAPL investors should largely ignore?

Too few iPhone 14 Pro to sell

Most recently, Bloomberg reported that Apple’s iPhone Pro sales could take a hit to the tune of 6 million units this year.

ItauBBA’s Thiago Kapulskis is just about the only analyst on the Street with an underperform rating on Apple stock. At least so far, Kapulskis has proven right in his caution toward iPhone unit sales estimates in the holiday quarter. In his most recent note, he said:

“This reduction of 6 million units, if it occurs, represents ~7% reduction in relation to Apple’s initial expectations. This, in our view, increases the risk for estimates, especially as it is mainly about the high-end models (iPhone Pro), which is where the market is more focused.”

More upbeat is Webush’s Dan Ives, who acknowledges the “absolute body blow” that this supply issue has been – but he sees the silver lining. According to the analyst, demand for the iPhone remains robust, which should help to support sales past the holiday period.

My take on Apple stock vs. iPhone worries

To me, the market is not wrong in its bearish knee-jerk reaction to the news coming out of China. The holiday quarter is the big one for Apple, when the Cupertino company tends to generate about one-third of its full-year revenues.

Keep in mind that, in the market, there aren’t only long-term investors exchanging AAPL shares. Traders making short-term bets are an important diving force as well. As it stands, Apple seems to be facing a rough fiscal Q1 quarter, and the January earnings print could disappoint.

However, as the reader probably knows, I think that Apple is a stock to own, and not trade – an idea that CNBC’s Jim Cramer has also defended. Therefore, I try to put this quarter’s supply issues in the context of Apple’s long-term prospects.

Let’s do some math: 6 million fewer units of the iPhone Pro sold in fiscal Q1, at an ASP of $1,100, adds up to $6.6 billion in lost or delayed sales. This figure represents about 5% of Apple’s total quarter revenues in the holiday period last year.

If I assume gross margin of 35%, which is consistent with Apple’s product margin as a whole, the impact to the bottom line could be $1.9 billion after tax, or 12 cents per share. Assign a multiple of 25 times, and we are looking at impact to share price of $3, which is next to nothing.

And keep in mind: 6 million fewer iPhone 14 Pro units sold in the quarter does not mean lost sales, necessarily. At least a good chunk of this total could merely be pushed forward, with revenues finally being recognized in the March 2023 quarter.

The point is that, in my opinion, Apple’s current supply issues should not be too big of a concern in the grand scheme of things – unless one assumes that this will be a recurring problem well into next year.

In a nutshell: it makes sense to me that Apple stock is under pressure for now. But if the share price continues to decline, the dip could prove to be an opportunity for long-term investors to buy the stock for cheaper and realize the potential gains over time.

","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Will iPhone 14 Troubles Drag Apple Stock in December?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWill iPhone 14 Troubles Drag Apple Stock in December?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-12-01 23:43 GMT+8 The Street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The holiday quarter is shaping up to be a tough one for Apple due to supply issues. The home-exercise technology company also had its sails trimmed on Thursday when analysts at Citi cut their price target on Peloton's (PTON) stock to $38 a share on expectations of higher expenses and falling demand for Peloton (PTON) products next year.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":514,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9995337663,"gmtCreate":1661407144255,"gmtModify":1676536513379,"author":{"id":"3582946466474986","authorId":"3582946466474986","name":"Slsebast","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5e6cb07de6d0a1ecc7d173d350831e6","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582946466474986","authorIdStr":"3582946466474986"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$<v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v>","listText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$<v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v>","text":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9995337663","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":88,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9921262289,"gmtCreate":1671069438941,"gmtModify":1676538484612,"author":{"id":"3582946466474986","authorId":"3582946466474986","name":"Slsebast","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5e6cb07de6d0a1ecc7d173d350831e6","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582946466474986","authorIdStr":"3582946466474986"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Vanguard S&P 500 ETF(VOO)$ <v-v data-views=\"0\"></v-v>","listText":"$Vanguard S&P 500 ETF(VOO)$ <v-v data-views=\"0\"></v-v>","text":"$Vanguard S&P 500 ETF(VOO)$","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/38a58277c43ab13724b8296e806e9bd5","width":"1125","height":"2101"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9921262289","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":811,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9938887430,"gmtCreate":1662595163521,"gmtModify":1676537094886,"author":{"id":"3582946466474986","authorId":"3582946466474986","name":"Slsebast","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5e6cb07de6d0a1ecc7d173d350831e6","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582946466474986","authorIdStr":"3582946466474986"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9938887430","repostId":"1119363305","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1119363305","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1662613739,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1119363305?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-08 13:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tim Cook Didn’t Have \"One More Thing,\" so Apple Offered Consumers a Break, for Once","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1119363305","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Apple’s iPhone 14 event was notable more for what the company didn’t do: Raise prices on its top-end smartphonesApple CEO Tim Cook holds a new iPhone 14 Pro during Wednesday’s eventn Cupertino, Calif.","content":"

Apple’s iPhone 14 event was notable more for what the company didn’t do: Raise prices on its top-end smartphones

Apple CEO Tim Cook holds a new iPhone 14 Pro during Wednesday’s eventn Cupertino, Calif. Cook kept the price the same as the last two iPhone models, however, and even added in some other deals: Free satellite emergency service for two years, and an update to Apple Care+ to remove a limit on the number of repairs each year.

“It was a shock, I thought a $100 price increase was a foregone conclusion,” said Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities. “Apple read the room and Cook didn’t want to raise prices.”

At the very least, analysts expected Apple to increase prices on its top-end smartphones, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max. Maribel Lopez, principal analyst at Lopez Research, said she had been hearing talk of price hikes of up to several hundred dollars that would “fork the line,” or allow greater separation between lower-priced and premium offerings.

“This was their opportunity, they were going to fork the line, and have very affordable and very flagship, and that was surprising that didn’t happen,” Lopez said. “I think that is the right move. It’s becoming difficult to get people to upgrade, they hold onto them longer, they are not inexpensive.”

The concern for investors from this move would be Apple’s profit margin. Record inflation has not just hit consumers — electronics manufacturers are seeing higher prices and uncertain supply of many components. The 15-year-old iPhone family is still Apple’s biggest revenue and profit generator, even as it is a mature product, so a margin decline would be felt acutely on the overall bottom line.

Lopez and Ives said the move should not be too much of a drag on Apple’s margins, however, thanks to strength with suppliers and a move toward using Apple’s own semiconductors.

“They have more control over their supply chain,” Ives said, adding that “the Apple silicon gives them flexibility.”

“Everything being an A or an M chip, that allows them a certain flexibility,” Lopez said. “It’s a classic vertical integration strategy.”

Apple unveiled some new offerings that were not price-related, mostly features targeted at increasingly specific audiences, such as the Apple Ultra Watch for serious fitness enthusiasts. But Cook again didn’t take the opportunity to use co-founder Steve Jobs’ product-launch catchphrase, “one more thing,” at the end of an unveiling to show off the next big product — even though Apple may have a big launch on the way.

Apple reportedly is working on three sets of augmented/virtual-reality glasses, with one expected to launch next year and compete with Meta Platforms Inc.’s Oculus offerings. It would be only the second major product category to launch under Cook’s leadership, beside the Apple Watch.

But Apple never shows off the next big thing without a fully formed product ready to roll. So instead, Cook is just trying to keep consumers happy with new iPhones — at flat prices with better cameras, longer battery life and new features — until its next foray is actually ready.

That doesn’t do much for investors, though. This term catapulted into the mainstream in late October when the social media giant formerly known as Facebook announced it was changing its corporate name to Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:FB) to reflect its focus on the metaverse.
\n
The metaverse, which is essentially a melding of the physical and virtual worlds, is widely viewed as the next evolution of the internet. Market size projections for the metaverse vary widely, so suffice it to say this space is poised to be massive.
\n
Let's take a look at the Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF (NYSEMKT:META), the world's first metaverse exchange-traded fund (ETF). This term catapulted into the mainstream in late October when the social media giant formerly known as Facebook announced it was changing its corporate name to Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:FB) to reflect its focus on the metaverse.\nThe metaverse, which is essentially a melding of the physical and virtual worlds, is widely viewed as the next evolution of the internet. Market size projections for the metaverse vary widely, so suffice it to say this space is poised to be massive.\nLet's take a look at the Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF (NYSEMKT:META), the world's first metaverse exchange-traded fund (ETF). You might decide that one or more of this ETF's holdings are worth further exploration or that you want to buy the ETF itself.\nRoundhill Ball Metaverse ETF: Performance and the basics\nThis ETF only began trading on June 30, 2021, so it's too soon to make any judgments about its performance. That said, since its inception, it's down 2.1% through Dec. 16. This performance lags that of the broader market, as the S&P 500 index has returned 9.5% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite has gained 4.7% over this period.\nThe Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF is an index fund that's designed to track the performance of the Ball Metaverse Index, which consists of a portfolio of worldwide companies involved in the metaverse. It had 40 holdings as of Dec. 16. The fund is rebalanced quarterly and has an expense ratio of 0.75%, which is moderately reasonable.\nThis ETF is far from a pure play on the metaverse, as its holdings are mostly huge companies that are involved in multiple businesses.\nRoundhill Ball Metaverse ETF: Top 10 stock holdings\n\n\n\nHolding No. \n Company\nMarket Cap \nWall Street's Projected Annualized EPS Growth Over Next 5 Years\nWeight (% of Portfolio)\nYTD 2021 Return \n\n\n\n\n\n1\nNvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA)\n$710 billion\n39.4%\n10.6%\n118%\n\n\n2\nRoblox (NYSE:RBLX)\n$55 billion\nN/A\n8.6%\nN/A*\n\n\n3\nMicrosoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)\n$2.4 trillion\n16.5%\n7.7%\n47.3%\n\n\n4\nMeta Platforms\n$932 billion\n21.4%\n6.6%\n22.6%\n\n\n5\nUnity Software (NYSE:U)\n$38 billion\nN/A\n4.9%\n(13%)\n\n\n6\nApple\n$2.8 trillion\n15.7%\n4.2%\n30.6%\n\n\n7\nAmazon.com\n$1.7 trillion\n36%\n4.2%\n3.7%\n\n\n8\nAutodesk\n$59 billion\n28.8%\n4.1%\n(11.7%)\n\n\n9\nQualcomm\n$200 billion\n25.6%\n3.9%\n19.1%\n\n\n10\nTencent Holdings\n$545 billion\n3.7%\n3.9%\n(20.8%)\n\n\nTotal Top 10\nN/A\nN/A\nN/A\n58.7%\nN/A\n\n\nN/A\nS&P 500 / Nasdaq Composite Indexes\nN/A\nN/A\nN/A\n26% / 17.8%\n\n\n\nData sources: Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF, Yahoo!
