Fool","summary":"These industry leaders should prosper in the growing $175 billion interactive entertainment market.","content":"
The bulls in the market have been stomping on the bears for more than a year, but history shows that stock prices don't move up in a straight line. Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.
\n
If you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.
\n
\n
1. Activision Blizzard
\n
Activision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.
\n
The Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.
\n
Making big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.
\n
It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.
\n
Activision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.
\n
2. Electronic Arts
\n
Electronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.
\n
Most importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.
\n
EA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.
\n
In fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.
\n
3. Tencent
\n
Tencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.
\n
Gaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.
\n
Over the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.
\n
Tencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.
\n
\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"
\n
However, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.\nIf you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Activision Blizzard\nActivision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.\nThe Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.\nMaking big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.\nIt pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.\nActivision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.\n2. Electronic Arts\nElectronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.\nMost importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.\nEA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.\nIn fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.\n3. Tencent\nTencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.\nGaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.\nOver the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.\nTencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.\n\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"\nHowever, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. The stock price has fallen recently, which can be chalked up to regulatory issues and near-term investments in the business that will pressure profitability this year. But I would look at the recent drop in share price as a buying opportunity.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":50,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147050294,"gmtCreate":1626321852718,"gmtModify":1703757864193,"author":{"id":"3585388049997493","authorId":"3585388049997493","name":"StellaHJY","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585388049997493","authorIdStr":"3585388049997493"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gd","listText":"Gd","text":"Gd","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/147050294","repostId":"1137262141","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1137262141","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626320490,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1137262141?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-15 11:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wells Fargo Reports Another Disappointing Quarter: Interest Income Flat As Average Loans Tumble","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1137262141","media":"zerohedge","summary":"After the solid results from both JPM, Goldman, and BofA (which saw strong equity trading offset by ","content":"
After the solid results from both JPM, Goldman, and BofA (which saw strong equity trading offset by a slump in FICC) we got the now traditional disappointment from Wells Fargo which reported Q2 earnings that were mixed at best.
\n
While the bank reported Q2 total revenue of $20.270BN, up 11%, and beating estimates of $17.75BN, with EPS of $1.38 also stronger than the 0.98 expected (a number which included a $147M Gain on Sale of Student Loans, and a $79M Write-Down of Related Goodwill), the reality is that the same issues that have plagued Wells for years remained front and center, including slugging loan growth and depressed net interest income. And while CEO Charlie Scharf said that \"Wells Fargo benefited from the continued economic recovery, strong markets that helped drive gains in our affiliated venture capital businesses, and our progress on improving efficiency\" he cautioned again that \"the headwinds of low interest rates and tepid loan demand remained.”
\n

\n
And, like all the other big money-center banks, a bit portion of the bottom line EPS print - and beat - came from reserve releases, $1.639 billion, or $0.30/share, to be precise.
\n

\n
Digging a bit below the surface reveals that once again not all was well with the bank missing across all key operating metrics:
\n
\n
Net Interest Income $8.80B, Est. $8.97B
\n
2Q Net Interest Margin 2.02%, Est. 2.05%
\n
Efficiency Ratio 66%, Est. 76.6%
\n
Loans $854.75B, Est. $855.72B
\n
Total Average Loans $854.7B
\n
Recovery of Credit Losses $1.26B, Est. Well, no more, and in Q2 it bounced back over 19%, with the bank saying that it “retroactively changed the accounting for certain tax-advantaged investments to better align the financial statement presentation of the economic impact of these investments with the related tax credits.”
\n
That means changing the bank’s accounting for low-income housing tax credit investments from one kind of accounting (“equity method”) to another (“the proportional amortization method.”). As Bloomberg notes, the bank also shifted the presentation of investment tax credits related to solar investments -- reclassifying investment tax credits (“from accrued expenses and other liabilities to a reduction of the carrying value of the investment balances.”). \"All that actually had an impact: Quarterly results for last year’s second and third quarters changed, because the new system “improved our efficiency ratio and generally increased our effective income tax rate from what was previously reported.\"
\n
Looking at the big picture, there were a number of asterisks here:
\n
First, both the top and bottom line included anet gain from equity securities of $2.7 billion, up from $533 million in 2Q20 and $392 million in 1Q21.
\n
Second the bank's net income of $6 billion was boosted by a larger-than-expected release of loan-loss reserves. To wit, the bank noted that results included a $1.6 billion pre-tax reduction in the allowance for credit losses, and charge-offs continued to decline. Here, Scharff cautioned that even though he continues to see strong trends in all of our businesses,he expects charge-offs to increase at some point.Meanwhile, the bank's provision for credit losses decreased by $10.8 billion.
\n

\n
Things were especially ugly innet interest income, which tumbled a whopping 11% to $8.8BN from $9.9BNand flat sequentially. The bank blamed the fall on lower interest, lower loan balances due to weak demand and elevated prepayments. But it’s “stable” compared with last quarter, per the release. As a result, Net Interest Margin also slumped, dropping from 2.05% to 2.02%, missing expectations and another all time low.
\n
Commenting on this ongoing decline in Net Interest Income, the bank blamed it on lower rateseven though rates actually jumped substantially in Q2 both sequentially and Y/Y.
\n
\n
Net interest income decreased $1.1 billion, or 11%, YoY reflecting the impact of lower interest rates, lower loan balances due to soft demand and elevated prepayments, as well as higher mortgage-backed securities (MBS) premium amortization, partially offset by a decline in long-term debt
\n
Net interest income was stable compared with 1Q21 as favorable hedge ineffectiveness accounting results, higher Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) income, and one additional day in the quarter were offset by lower loan balancesand the impact of lower interest rates
\n
\n
Taking a deep dive into Wells Fargo’s consumer banking and lending, showed total revenue of $8.7 billion was up 14% year over year, and up just a tad from the first quarter. Consumer and small business banking’s $4.7 billion was up 40% year over year “driven by higher servicing income and higher mortgage origination and sales revenue,” but was also down 7% from last quarter.
\n
Why? Wells explains “Lower retail held-for-sale originations and gain-on-sale margins were partially offset by higher income related to the re-securitization of loans purchased from mortgage-backed securities.”
\n
Looking at the bank's bread and butter, Bloomberg notes that average loan balances of $331.9 billion were down from $353.1 billion last quarter (and $369.6 billion a year ago), while Wells Fargo’s $835.8 billion of average deposit balances were up from last quarter’s $789.4 billion $715.1 billion a year ago, all thanks to QE (more on this in a subsequent post).
\n
And this was the main reason for our downbeat take on Wells' results: the bank's average loans tumbled (again) in the second quarter as consumers and businesses, buoyed by pandemic stimulus programs, refrained from more borrowing. As shown below, the average balance of the bank’s lending book dropped 12% to $854.7 billion. The result mirrored a similar decline at Bank of America Corp., which said earlier that loans and leases in its consumer-banking unit also fell 12%.
\n

\n
Needless to say, you can't have a broad economic growth without loan growth.
\n
This brings up the $64K question: with Investors and analysts asking where’s loan growth, Wells still can't answer, and it certainly wasn't to be found in the bank's commercial banking business: The firm saw middle-market banking revenue fall 9% year-over-year, with the decline driven by reduced client demand and line utilization.
\n
On credit performance, net charge-offs (as a percentage of average loans) hit 0.43%, up a tiny bit from last quarter’s 0.42% -- but down from last year’s 0.6%.
\n
While interest income missed expectations, expenses also declined, and were down $1.2 billion Y/Y to $13.3 billion, thanks to a 1% drop in personnel expense, while non-personnel expenses were down $1.1 billion, or 20%, \"due to lower operating losses, as well as lower professional and outside services expense reflecting efficiency initiatives to reduce our spend on consultants and contractors.\"
\n
It looks like Wells Fargo’s dealmakers weren’t as prosperous as the investment bankers over at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs who stole the show yesterday with a flurry of deals driving the firms’ results. Wells Fargo saw investment banking revenue weaken by $37 million from the same time last year. It’s interesting because Scharf has taken steps to strengthen that division, even as he’s gone about pruning businesses deemed inefficient. Out of the six largest U.S. banks, Wells Fargo’s investment banking division is the smallest in terms of market share.
\n
Taking a quick look at the bank's modest corporate and investment banking division, which is far less material than its peers, we find that Wells bankers were not nearly as prosperous as the investment bankers over at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs who stole the show yesterday with a flurry of deals driving the firms’ results. Wells Fargo saw investment banking revenue weaken by $37 million from the same time last year, even though Scharf has allegedly taken steps to strengthen that division, even as he’s gone about pruning businesses deemed inefficient. Out of the six largest U.S. banks, Wells Fargo’s investment banking division is the smallest in terms of market share.
\n
Finally, in a testament to how the bank sees its own futures, headcount fell to 259,000 from 276,000 a year ago. That reduction helped to drive noninterest expenses at the bank down 8% from the same time last year. This was perhaps to be expected: Scharf has made trimming costs a priority, and the bank broke with competitors by resuming job cuts in August.
\n
The bottom line: as Bloomberg summarizes, consumers are still keeping up with their bills and employment has been improving, allowing banks to once again release billions in reserves they’d set aside during the worst of the pandemic. That’s bolstered profits. Still, the massive stimulus the U.S. government has pumped into the economy means there’s little demand for loans, hindering revenue especially at loan-intensive banks such as Wells.
\n
In immediate response, the market pushed WFC stock higher, but having time to digest the results, the stock is now again drifting lower.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And while CEO Charlie Scharf said that \"Wells Fargo benefited from the continued economic recovery, strong markets that helped drive gains in our affiliated venture capital businesses, and our progress on improving efficiency\" he cautioned again that \"the headwinds of low interest rates and tepid loan demand remained.”\n\nAnd, like all the other big money-center banks, a bit portion of the bottom line EPS print - and beat - came from reserve releases, $1.639 billion, or $0.30/share, to be precise.\n\nDigging a bit below the surface reveals that once again not all was well with the bank missing across all key operating metrics:\n\nNet Interest Income $8.80B, Est. $8.97B\n2Q Net Interest Margin 2.02%, Est. 2.05%\nEfficiency Ratio 66%, Est. 76.6%\nLoans $854.75B, Est. $855.72B\nTotal Average Loans $854.7B\nRecovery of Credit Losses $1.26B, Est. Recovery $545.4M\nWells Fargo Expect Charge-Offs Will Increase at Some Point\nWells Fargo Continues to See Strong Trends in All Businesses\n\nTo be sure, the top line improvement was a welcome change for a company whose revenue have stagnated for the better part of a year...\n... helping lift Net Income to pre-covid levels.\nA quick note on taxes: readers may recall that last year the bank benefited form an artificially low 6.4% effective tax rate. Well, no more, and in Q2 it bounced back over 19%, with the bank saying that it “retroactively changed the accounting for certain tax-advantaged investments to better align the financial statement presentation of the economic impact of these investments with the related tax credits.”\nThat means changing the bank’s accounting for low-income housing tax credit investments from one kind of accounting (“equity method”) to another (“the proportional amortization method.”). As Bloomberg notes, the bank also shifted the presentation of investment tax credits related to solar investments -- reclassifying investment tax credits (“from accrued expenses and other liabilities to a reduction of the carrying value of the investment balances.”). \"All that actually had an impact: Quarterly results for last year’s second and third quarters changed, because the new system “improved our efficiency ratio and generally increased our effective income tax rate from what was previously reported.\"\nLooking at the big picture, there were a number of asterisks here:\nFirst, both the top and bottom line included anet gain from equity securities of $2.7 billion, up from $533 million in 2Q20 and $392 million in 1Q21.\nSecond the bank's net income of $6 billion was boosted by a larger-than-expected release of loan-loss reserves. To wit, the bank noted that results included a $1.6 billion pre-tax reduction in the allowance for credit losses, and charge-offs continued to decline. Here, Scharff cautioned that even though he continues to see strong trends in all of our businesses,he expects charge-offs to increase at some point.Meanwhile, the bank's provision for credit losses decreased by $10.8 billion.\n\nThings were especially ugly innet interest income, which tumbled a whopping 11% to $8.8BN from $9.9BNand flat sequentially. The bank blamed the fall on lower interest, lower loan balances due to weak demand and elevated prepayments. But it’s “stable” compared with last quarter, per the release. As a result, Net Interest Margin also slumped, dropping from 2.05% to 2.02%, missing expectations and another all time low.\nCommenting on this ongoing decline in Net Interest Income, the bank blamed it on lower rateseven though rates actually jumped substantially in Q2 both sequentially and Y/Y.\n\nNet interest income decreased $1.1 billion, or 11%, YoY reflecting the impact of lower interest rates, lower loan balances due to soft demand and elevated prepayments, as well as higher mortgage-backed securities (MBS) premium amortization, partially offset by a decline in long-term debt\nNet interest income was stable compared with 1Q21 as favorable hedge ineffectiveness accounting results, higher Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) income, and one additional day in the quarter were offset by lower loan balancesand the impact of lower interest rates\n\nTaking a deep dive into Wells Fargo’s consumer banking and lending, showed total revenue of $8.7 billion was up 14% year over year, and up just a tad from the first quarter. Consumer and small business banking’s $4.7 billion was up 40% year over year “driven by higher servicing income and higher mortgage origination and sales revenue,” but was also down 7% from last quarter.\nWhy? Wells explains “Lower retail held-for-sale originations and gain-on-sale margins were partially offset by higher income related to the re-securitization of loans purchased from mortgage-backed securities.”\nLooking at the bank's bread and butter, Bloomberg notes that average loan balances of $331.9 billion were down from $353.1 billion last quarter (and $369.6 billion a year ago), while Wells Fargo’s $835.8 billion of average deposit balances were up from last quarter’s $789.4 billion $715.1 billion a year ago, all thanks to QE (more on this in a subsequent post).\nAnd this was the main reason for our downbeat take on Wells' results: the bank's average loans tumbled (again) in the second quarter as consumers and businesses, buoyed by pandemic stimulus programs, refrained from more borrowing. As shown below, the average balance of the bank’s lending book dropped 12% to $854.7 billion. The result mirrored a similar decline at Bank of America Corp., which said earlier that loans and leases in its consumer-banking unit also fell 12%.\n\nNeedless to say, you can't have a broad economic growth without loan growth.\nThis brings up the $64K question: with Investors and analysts asking where’s loan growth, Wells still can't answer, and it certainly wasn't to be found in the bank's commercial banking business: The firm saw middle-market banking revenue fall 9% year-over-year, with the decline driven by reduced client demand and line utilization.\nOn credit performance, net charge-offs (as a percentage of average loans) hit 0.43%, up a tiny bit from last quarter’s 0.42% -- but down from last year’s 0.6%.\nWhile interest income missed expectations, expenses also declined, and were down $1.2 billion Y/Y to $13.3 billion, thanks to a 1% drop in personnel expense, while non-personnel expenses were down $1.1 billion, or 20%, \"due to lower operating losses, as well as lower professional and outside services expense reflecting efficiency initiatives to reduce our spend on consultants and contractors.\"\nIt looks like Wells Fargo’s dealmakers weren’t as prosperous as the investment bankers over at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs who stole the show yesterday with a flurry of deals driving the firms’ results. Wells Fargo saw investment banking revenue weaken by $37 million from the same time last year. It’s interesting because Scharf has taken steps to strengthen that division, even as he’s gone about pruning businesses deemed inefficient. Out of the six largest U.S. banks, Wells Fargo’s investment banking division is the smallest in terms of market share.\nTaking a quick look at the bank's modest corporate and investment banking division, which is far less material than its peers, we find that Wells bankers were not nearly as prosperous as the investment bankers over at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs who stole the show yesterday with a flurry of deals driving the firms’ results. Wells Fargo saw investment banking revenue weaken by $37 million from the same time last year, even though Scharf has allegedly taken steps to strengthen that division, even as he’s gone about pruning businesses deemed inefficient. Out of the six largest U.S. banks, Wells Fargo’s investment banking division is the smallest in terms of market share.\nFinally, in a testament to how the bank sees its own futures, headcount fell to 259,000 from 276,000 a year ago. That reduction helped to drive noninterest expenses at the bank down 8% from the same time last year. This was perhaps to be expected: Scharf has made trimming costs a priority, and the bank broke with competitors by resuming job cuts in August.\nThe bottom line: as Bloomberg summarizes, consumers are still keeping up with their bills and employment has been improving, allowing banks to once again release billions in reserves they’d set aside during the worst of the pandemic. That’s bolstered profits. Still, the massive stimulus the U.S. government has pumped into the economy means there’s little demand for loans, hindering revenue especially at loan-intensive banks such as Wells.\nIn immediate response, the market pushed WFC stock higher, but having time to digest the results, the stock is now again drifting lower.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":120,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581636635898281","authorId":"3581636635898281","name":"pekss","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7dfef98c44b3810cffef7f3eb78524ba","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3581636635898281","authorIdStr":"3581636635898281"},"content":"The only major US bank stock price to rise (and significantly) last night post earning announcement","text":"The only major US bank stock price to rise (and significantly) last night post earning announcement","html":"The only major US bank stock price to rise (and significantly) last night post earning announcement"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":177580789,"gmtCreate":1627252086741,"gmtModify":1703485868789,"author":{"id":"3585388049997493","authorId":"3585388049997493","name":"StellaHJY","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585388049997493","authorIdStr":"3585388049997493"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes good yes good","listText":"Yes good yes good","text":"Yes good yes good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/177580789","repostId":"1115106146","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1115106146","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627182277,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1115106146?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-25 11:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Will Netflix Be a Trillion-Dollar Stock by 2030?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1115106146","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Will the streaming leader join the 12-zero club within the next decade?","content":"
Key Points
\n
\n
Netflix is the FAANG stock with the smallest market cap.
\n
It will face tough competition over the next decade.
\n
Its chances of joining the trillion-dollar club by 2030 are slim.
\n
\n
Netflix(NASDAQ:NFLX)represents the \"N\" in the FAANG cohort of top tech companies, which also include Facebook,Amazon,Apple, and Google's parent company Alphabet.
\n
But with a market cap of $236 billion, Netflix is also much smaller than its four FAANG peers. slim.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":106,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9900176444,"gmtCreate":1658675800788,"gmtModify":1676536190154,"author":{"id":"3585388049997493","authorId":"3585388049997493","name":"StellaHJY","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585388049997493","authorIdStr":"3585388049997493"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Call me old-school, but I've always considered a market cap in excess of $100 billion to be a megacap stock (today, some folks believe in a megacap cutoff of $200 billion).
\n
Historically, companies that surpass a $100 billion market cap are slow-growing, but they're often profitable, time-tested, and offer modest long-term appreciation. However, the latter may not be the case for a trio of megacap stocks.
\n
Of the nearly 120 companies with at least a $100 billion market cap, only three have a high-water Wall Street price target that implies a doubling in their respective share prices. Can these megacap stocks actually double? Let's take a closer look.
\n
\n
Tesla Motors: Implied upside of 129%
\n
Perhaps unsurprisingly, auto stock Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) offers the highest implied upside, based on the beefiest Wall Street price target -- $1,471 a share -- as of this past weekend. If this price target came to fruition, we'd be talking about a 129% increase in Tesla's stock. It's also worth mentioning that ARK invest CEO and Chief Investment Officer Cathie Wood believes Tesla can hit $3,000 a share by mid-decade.
\n
The obvious reason for bullishness has to do with the epic multi-decade vehicle replacement cycle that'll see people and businesses switching to electric vehicles (EV) and other forms of alternative energy-powered transportation. Tesla had a first-mover advantage in the U.S., and it's building a name for itself in China, which is the largest auto market in the world. By 2035, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China estimates that half of all new vehicles sold in China will be powered by alternative energy.
\n
Another reason some Wall Street analysts have rallied around Tesla is the company's clear-cut competitive advantages. For example, Tesla's batteries have higher capacity, more power, and better range than the batteries being developed by its peers. The introduction of the Model 3 also brought the price of entry-level EV ownership down considerably.
\n
But Tesla is also a highly polarizing stock, with a low price target from Wall Street of just $67. That's because there's a mountain of competition brewing in the EV space domestically and abroad. General Motors (NYSE:GM) plans to spend $35 billion on EVs and autonomous innovation through mid-decade. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is planning to spend $30 billion through 2025 on EVs. GM and Ford will each be launching 30 new electric vehicles globally within five years.
\n
An even bigger concern might just be Tesla's inability to generate a profit from selling EVs. Although it's been reporting adjusted quarterly profits for more than a year, Tesla's \"profitability\" has hinged on it selling renewable energy credits to other automakers or selling its digital assets (Bitcoin) for a profit. It's hard to envision Tesla being worth $1.4 trillion without even demonstrating to Wall Street that it can generate a recurring profit from selling EVs.
\n
\n
JD.com: Implied upside of 101%
\n
Wall Street is also expecting big things from China's second-largest online retailer, JD.com (NASDAQ:JD). Though the consensus of all analysts is that JD offers a hearty 43% upside, one analyst foresees the company making a currency-converted run at close to $105 a share. This implies potential gains of 101% for the e-commerce giant.
\n
Wall Street's fascination with JD has to do with its similarities to Amazon.com and its (pardon the pun) prime location (i.e., at the heart of China's rapidly growing economy). Though the company does, in certain instances, act as a third-party marketplace, it's primarily a direct retailer of goods to online shoppers and maintains its own inventory. Having greater control over product quality and logistics is what's helped Amazon to generate insane amounts of cash flow, and it should do the same for JD. As of the end of March, JD's annual active customer count was a stone's throw from 500 million, up 29% from the prior-year period.
\n
Equally exciting is the rapid growth JD is experiencing from its service operations, which encompasses things like healthcare services, cloud services, and advertising. In late April, Cloudflare announced that it would partner with JD to expand its network in China. For JD, Cloudflare's use of its cloud infrastructure will create another channel of fast-growing sales. In Q1, this service segment grew sales by a blistering 73% from the prior-year quarter.
\n
However, JD is far from being the only fish in the pond in the world's second-largest economy. Though being a direct retailer comes with its advantages, it's nevertheless under constant pressure from the likes of Alibaba and Pinduoduo. Even Tencent Holdings, which has been a longtime shareholder of JD, is a potential threat with its slow but steady push into mobile e-commerce.
\n
Yet, even with increasing competition and regulatory uncertainty in China, JD offers a very realistic shot at eventually hitting Wall Street's upper echelon price target. Take note, I'm not saying JD gets there within 12 months, as is the common timeframe for Wall Street price targets. But within the next few years, $105 is a very realistic target given its 20%-plus sustainable growth rate and cloud services push.
\n
\n
Netflix: Implied upside of 124%
\n
The last megacap stock that Wall Street believes has the potential to double is streaming content provider Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX). The most aggressive price target on Wall Street foresees Netflix galloping to $1,154 a share, or 124% higher than where the company settled this past week.
\n
Similar to Tesla, Wall Street's fascination with Netflix has a lot to do with the company's first-mover advantage. Folks were scratching their heads when CEO Reed Hastings decided to shift away from a highly profitable DVD-delivery business and focus his company's attention on streaming. With hindsight being 20/20, we know this was a genius move. Netflix ended June with almost 209.2 million global streaming subscribers.
\n
Netflix also has a long history of turning heads thanks to its original programming. It's released dozens of original shows and movies, many of which have turned casual subscribers into users who become hooked on the service.
\n
But there are also a number of good reasons to believe that $1,154 isn't achievable. For instance, competition in the streaming space has been steadily picking up, with Netflix losing some of its share in the United States. In particular, Walt Disney's streaming service Disney+ took just 16 months to go from launch to more than 100 million subscribers. The timing of the pandemic certainly helped Disney+, however its ascension can't be ignored.
\n
Furthermore, there's uncertainty about subscriber growth in a post-pandemic world. Make no mistake about it, we're still in a global pandemic. But with vaccination rates climbing, it's a fair assumption that people are going to be spending more time outside their homes rather than in front of their televisions or laptops. This could certainly slow Netflix's subscriber growth.
\n
A final reason for skepticism in this high-water price target is Netflix's long history of net cash outflows. It's no secret that Netflix wants to expand internationally, and it's willing to spend big to gobble up international streaming share. But it's difficult to imagine Netflix being worth close to $500 billion without any consistent positive cash flow.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Can These Megacap Stocks Double? General Motors (NYSE:GM) plans to spend $35 billion on EVs and autonomous innovation through mid-decade. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is planning to spend $30 billion through 2025 on EVs. GM and Ford will each be launching 30 new electric vehicles globally within five years.\nAn even bigger concern might just be Tesla's inability to generate a profit from selling EVs. Although it's been reporting adjusted quarterly profits for more than a year, Tesla's \"profitability\" has hinged on it selling renewable energy credits to other automakers or selling its digital assets (Bitcoin) for a profit. It's hard to envision Tesla being worth $1.4 trillion without even demonstrating to Wall Street that it can generate a recurring profit from selling EVs.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nJD.com: Implied upside of 101%\nWall Street is also expecting big things from China's second-largest online retailer, JD.com (NASDAQ:JD). Though the consensus of all analysts is that JD offers a hearty 43% upside, one analyst foresees the company making a currency-converted run at close to $105 a share. This implies potential gains of 101% for the e-commerce giant.\nWall Street's fascination with JD has to do with its similarities to Amazon.com and its (pardon the pun) prime location (i.e., at the heart of China's rapidly growing economy). As of the end of March, JD's annual active customer count was a stone's throw from 500 million, up 29% from the prior-year period.\nEqually exciting is the rapid growth JD is experiencing from its service operations, which encompasses things like healthcare services, cloud services, and advertising. In late April, Cloudflare announced that it would partner with JD to expand its network in China. For JD, Cloudflare's use of its cloud infrastructure will create another channel of fast-growing sales. In Q1, this service segment grew sales by a blistering 73% from the prior-year quarter.\nHowever, JD is far from being the only fish in the pond in the world's second-largest economy. Though being a direct retailer comes with its advantages, it's nevertheless under constant pressure from the likes of Alibaba and Pinduoduo. Even Tencent Holdings, which has been a longtime shareholder of JD, is a potential threat with its slow but steady push into mobile e-commerce.\nYet, even with increasing competition and regulatory uncertainty in China, JD offers a very realistic shot at eventually hitting Wall Street's upper echelon price target. Take note, I'm not saying JD gets there within 12 months, as is the common timeframe for Wall Street price targets. But within the next few years, $105 is a very realistic target given its 20%-plus sustainable growth rate and cloud services push.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nNetflix: Implied upside of 124%\nThe last megacap stock that Wall Street believes has the potential to double is streaming content provider Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX). The most aggressive price target on Wall Street foresees Netflix galloping to $1,154 a share, or 124% higher than where the company settled this past week.\nSimilar to Tesla, Wall Street's fascination with Netflix has a lot to do with the company's first-mover advantage. Folks were scratching their heads when CEO Reed Hastings decided to shift away from a highly profitable DVD-delivery business and focus his company's attention on streaming. With hindsight being 20/20, we know this was a genius move. Netflix ended June with almost 209.2 million global streaming subscribers.\nNetflix also has a long history of turning heads thanks to its original programming. It's released dozens of original shows and movies, many of which have turned casual subscribers into users who become hooked on the service.\nBut there are also a number of good reasons to believe that $1,154 isn't achievable. For instance, competition in the streaming space has been steadily picking up, with Netflix losing some of its share in the United States. In particular, Walt Disney's streaming service Disney+ took just 16 months to go from launch to more than 100 million subscribers. The timing of the pandemic certainly helped Disney+, however its ascension can't be ignored.\nFurthermore, there's uncertainty about subscriber growth in a post-pandemic world. Make no mistake about it, we're still in a global pandemic. But with vaccination rates climbing, it's a fair assumption that people are going to be spending more time outside their homes rather than in front of their televisions or laptops. This could certainly slow Netflix's subscriber growth.\nA final reason for skepticism in this high-water price target is Netflix's long history of net cash outflows. It's no secret that Netflix wants to expand internationally, and it's willing to spend big to gobble up international streaming share. But it's difficult to imagine Netflix being worth close to $500 billion without any consistent positive cash flow.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":72,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":809097190,"gmtCreate":1627338322710,"gmtModify":1703487717193,"author":{"id":"3585388049997493","authorId":"3585388049997493","name":"StellaHJY","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585388049997493","authorIdStr":"3585388049997493"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/809097190","repostId":"1191215576","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":83,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174434308,"gmtCreate":1627123861304,"gmtModify":1703484567128,"author":{"id":"3585388049997493","authorId":"3585388049997493","name":"StellaHJY","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585388049997493","authorIdStr":"3585388049997493"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gd","listText":"Gd","text":"Gd","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/174434308","repostId":"2153980423","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2153980423","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1627081209,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2153980423?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-24 07:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street surges to all-time closing high on earnings, economic revival","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2153980423","media":"Reuters","summary":"* All 3 major indexes post weekly gains\n* Dow closes above 35,000 for first time ever\n* Social media","content":"
* All 3 major indexes post weekly gains
\n
* Dow closes above 35,000 for first time ever
\n
* Social media stocks rally after upbeat results
\n
* Intel sales forecast implies rocky second half
\n
* Indexes up: Dow 0.68%, S&P 1.01%, Nasdaq 1.04%
\n
Wall Street gained ground for the fourth straight session on Friday, extending a rally that pushed all three major U.S. stock indexes to record closing highs as upbeat earnings and signs of economic revival fueled investor risk appetite.
\n
The Dow closed above 35,000 for the first time ever.
\n
\"We see a continuation of the last couple days.
