Thus, Snap shareholders were clearly expecting a lot. But to see Snap come out with more than triple digits y/y revenue growth rates? That was particularly stunning.
\n
Previously, I had noted that investors should look beyond Snap's maturing MAUs in North America, and look towards its International opportunity as its next wave of growth opportunities.
\n
However, even though its overseas revenues were strong, the real driver of Snap's returns come from the pricing power of its North America users:
\n

\n
In the table above, I've stripped out all the other details for us to focus our discussions around Snap's Average Revenue Per User (\"ARPU\"). As you can see, pricing in North America was the real driver of revenues, with ARPU up 116% y/y. Why is this important?
\n
It's important because it shows that, even on the back of just 6% y/y growth in DAUs in North America, advertisers are eager to reach out and connect with Snap's young demographic and pay up for that opportunity.
\n
Could Spectacles be the Next Wave of Growth for Snap?
\n
For some time, Snap has been making investors aware that it's moving beyond just a social media platform and that it's now looking to take its Augmented Reality technology and deploy it into hardware.
\n
At first, this was met with investor skepticism. After all, Snap was taking an asset-light and lucrative business and pivoting towards a hardware revenue business, with lower margins.
\n
Indeed, it didn't make much sense why Snap would make such a move. Particularly given that Snap had, without any hardware investment, grown very successfully and built the necessary technology to spring off other manufacturers' capital investment into a business with nearly $4.5 billion in run-rate revenues as of Q4 2021.
\n
Having said that, Snap asserts that by further developing its Spectacles business unit, users can not only create more immersive content, but they will have access to other uses as well.
\n
For instance, by using Spectacles, users can use AR try-on technology to emulate a physical shopping experience and get clothing with the right fit and the right size, to reduce the need for online returns.
\n
The underlying idea is to increase user engagement and build an increased digital inventory of the users' life journeys. Other uses could be to increase the personalization of an online shopping experience.
\n
This is something that is likely to resonate strongly with Snap's young demographic and offers Snap an opportunity to differentiate itself against other players in this space.
\n
While Snap is quick to note that this is not yet a fully-fledged solution, it's nevertheless a way to improve shoppers' online experience by making visualization personal and as close to real as possible.
\n
Hence, the question investors have to answer is whether this is all already priced in or if there's still more upside potential?
\n
SNAP Stock Valuation: Not Cheap
\n
Snap is valued at approximately 29x forward sales. If we compare with Pinterest (PINS), which trades at approximately 19x forward sales, this reminds readers that a lot of excitement, optimism, expectation, and positive sentiment is evidently priced into Snap.
\n
On the other hand, shareholders may be quick to remark that even if Snap is richly valued, high quality and rapidly growing businesses rarely trade in the bargain basement -- particularly towards the end of a very long bull market.
\n
Moreover, keep in mind that Snap is now signaling to investors that its multi-year investments are now paying fruit and this now marks the third quarter of adjusted EBITDA profitability over its trailing twelve months.
\n
Hence, if Snap's Q2 2021's 116% top line appears strong and caught many headlines, then Snap's adjusted EBITDA growth of more than 200% looks even better.
\n
What's more, as we look out to its guidance next quarter, its bottom line EBITDA is expected to once again posttriple digits EBITDA growth y/y.
\n
Premortem (Investment Risks)
\n
Arguably, the single bearish consideration is that Snap's valuation doesn't offer investors much room for error. Not only does it trade more expensively than other social platforms, but it's also clearly a richly valued stock.
\n
To this end, we see that investors pricing a lot of optimism that Snap will continue to positively surprise investors. Consequently, any mishaps during any quarter, when a stock is so richly priced, leaves the stock primed for a meaningful sell-off.
\n
Next, the bulk of investor thesis is to a large extent contingent on Snap's DAUs continuing to steadily increase. What's more, Q2 2021 marked just a mid-single-digit increase in DAUs in North America.
\n

\n
If we look back to H1 2019 (pre-COVID), Snap's DAU growth was approximately compared with the same period in the prior year. This is an undeniable reminder that Snap's DAU growth had previously flattened and that it's entirely possible that it may flatten down once again. If that were to happen, investors would not regard Snap as a high growth name, and the number of investors that would be willing to pay for the stock would decrease.
\n
The Bottom Line: Is SNAP A Good Buy?
\n
Even though Snap is not a cheap stock, Snap continues to demonstrate that its revenue growth rates remain incredibly strong.
\n
While there's a lot to like in Snap's investment, I will sit out this opportunity as I prefer to invest in companies where the outlook is not as rosy, but the valuation is dramatically cheaper.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Snap Stock: One Of Fastest Growing Social Media Companies
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSnap Stock: One Of Fastest Growing Social Media Companies\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-27 19:28 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nSnap had a high bar to cross to impress investors. Since taking the helm of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, the Oracle of Omaha has led his stock to an average annual return of 20%. Taking into account the 20% year-to-date gain for Berkshire's Class A shares (BRK.A), shareholders have seen Buffett generate aggregate returns of almost 3,400,000% in 56 years.
\n
Although Berkshire Hathaway has a relatively large portfolio filled with four dozen different securities, Buffett has never been a big fan of diversification. As a result, only a small number of holdings comprise the bulk of Berkshire Hathaway's $206.4 billion in unrealized gains, as of this past weekend.
\n
Based on the cost basis of Berkshire's major holdings (outlined in the company's 2020 annual shareholder letter), the following five stocks have netted Buffett $181.1 billion in combined unrealized gains (about 88% of all current unrealized profit), not including dividends paid.
\n

\n
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett is all smiles with his company sitting on over $206 billion in unrealized gains. Image source: The Motley Fool.
\n
Apple: $101,764,676,001 in unrealized gains
\n
Easily the best investment of Buffett's tenured career is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Even after modestly paring down his company's stake in the tech kingpin, Berkshire Hathaway still owns 907,559,761 shares at a cost basis of $34.26 a share. With Apple closing last week at $146.39 a share, the Oracle of Omaha and his team are sitting on close to a $102 billion unrealized gain.
\n
Investors certainly shouldn't look for this stake to be reduced any further anytime soon. That's because Buffett views Apple as Berkshire Hathaway's \"third business.\" It's a globally recognized brand with an exceptionally loyal following, as evidenced by the mammoth lines outside of its stores anytime a new product hits the shelves. And, as you're probably aware, the iPhone is the dominant smartphone by market share in the U.S.
\n
In addition to Apple being a product innovation juggernaut, CEO Tim Cook is overseeing a steady transition toward services. By emphasizing various subscription-based platforms, Apple can reduce some of the revenue lumpiness associated with tech replacement cycles and likely boost its operating margins.
\n
A final reason Buffett isn't bailing on Apple is the company's generous shareholder return program. Though some of you might be scratching your head given that Apple's dividend yield is \"only\" 0.6%, the $0.88 base annual payout is closer to 2.6% of Berkshire Hathaway's cost basis. Tack on Apple's aggressive share repurchase program and you have a very shareholder-friendly company.
\n

\n
\n
Bank of America: $24,530,235,143 in unrealized gains
\n
There's no industry on the planet Buffett loves more than bank stocks -- and there's no bank stock Buffett favors more than Bank of America (NYSE:BAC). Berkshire Hathaway owns over 1.03 billion shares of BofA with a cost basis of $14.17 a share. This works out to an unrealized gain of just over $24.5 billion, based on where BofA shares closed this past Friday, July 16.
\n
Buffett has always been a big fan of playing the economic numbers game, which is exactly what he's doing with Bank of America. Since the U.S. economy spends a disproportionate amount of time expanding, relative to contracting, bank stocks like BofA should benefit from stronger loan origination and higher net interest income. The Oracle of Omaha is fully aware that recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle, but he fully understands that the long term strongly favors optimists.
\n
More specific to the business, BofA stands to benefit from eventual interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive of all the big banks, with the company noting in the June-ended quarter that a 100 basis point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve would net it an extra $8 billion in net interest income over the next 12 months.
\n
With BofA pushing digitization initiatives and bolstering its dividend program, it's far likelier that Buffett ups his stake in the company than sells a single share.
\n

\n
\n
American Express: $24,488,160,264 in unrealized gains
\n
Whereas the gains racked up in Apple and BofA have come within the past couple of years, the nearly $24.5 billion in unrealized gains in credit services behemoth American Express (NYSE:AXP) have been built up over the past 28 years. With a cost basis of right around $8.49 a share, Buffett's patience has paid off in a big way with AmEx.
\n
Similar to Bank of America, American Express is a cyclical company that benefits from the aforementioned numbers game. If the U.S. and global economy are expanding, consumers and businesses are more likely to spend more, thereby helping boost payment processing revenue and profits. Keep in mind, though, AmEx is a double dipper. In addition to processing payments, it's also a credit services provider. This means it can generate growing amounts of fee revenue and interest income during long-winded periods of expansion.
\n
Another facet to AmEx's success is the company's ability to bring in affluent clientele. The well-to-do are far less inclined to alter their spending habits when minor economic disruptions rear their heads. As a result, AmEx isn't as likely to be hurt by credit delinquencies as some of its lending peers.
\n
With Berkshire Hathaway an American Express shareholder since 1993, I don't foresee Buffett or his team selling shares anytime soon.
\n

\n
\n
Coca-Cola: $21,262,000,000 in unrealized gains
\n
Speaking of tenured holdings, no stock has been a fixture in Buffett's portfolio for longer than beverage giant Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO). With a cost basis of a fraction under $3.25 a share, Buffett and his team have piled up almost $21.3 billion in unrealized gains by owning Coca-Cola since 1988.
\n
Like Apple, we're talking about a company with insanely strong branding and brand recognition. Coke products are sold in all but two countries worldwide (Cuba and North Korea), and it has more than 20 brands in its product portfolio generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Coca-Cola enjoys the best of both worlds, with 20% of the developed market cold beverage share (i.e., highly predictable cash flow) and 10% of emerging market cold beverage share, which represents a higher-growth opportunity over the long run.
\n
Beyond geographic diversity, marketing is a big reason for Coca-Cola's success. The company has not been shy about turning to social media and well-known ambassadors to represent its brand, and it has clear holiday tie-ins that go back decades.
\n
Considering that Berkshire Hathaway is netting almost a 52% annual dividend yield based on its original cost basis for Coca-Cola, there's absolutely no incentive to sell this position.
\n

\n
\n
Moody's: $9,076,258,024 in unrealized gains
\n
While Apple singlehandedly takes the crown for generating the highest unrealized return in nominal dollars for the Oracle of Omaha, credit ratings agency Moody's (NYSE:MCO) might well be Warren Buffett's greatest investment on a percentage basis of all time. Berkshire's cost basis is $10.05 a share following Moody's spinoff from Dun & Bradstreet in 2000. Moody's closed this past week at almost $378 a share -- good enough for a 3,661% return and nearly $9.1 billion unrealized gain.
\n
One thing keeping Moody's busy is historically low lending rates. With the Federal Reserve standing pat for as long as possible on interest rates, businesses haven't been shy about issuing debt to hire, acquire, innovate, or even buy back stock, as in Apple's case. With so much corporate debt issued, Moody's has been active evaluating the debt landscape.
\n
Equally exciting has been the generally heightened levels of market volatility and economic uncertainty since the beginning of 2020. Though Moody's is best known for its credit ratings operations, its fastest-growing segment tends to be analytics. As long as deep levels of uncertainty exist, Moody's Analytics has double-digit annual growth potential.
\n
As with Coke, Buffett's patience has resulted in an insanely high yield on cost with Moody's. Despite a 0.7% nominal yield, Berkshire Hathaway is netting an almost 25% yield annually, based on its initial cost basis.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Warren Buffett Has Gained Over $181 Billion on These 5 Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWarren Buffett Has Gained Over $181 Billion on These 5 Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-23 11:44 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) CEO Warren Buffett is arguably in a class of his own when it comes to investing legends. Even after modestly paring down his company's stake in the tech kingpin, Berkshire Hathaway still owns 907,559,761 shares at a cost basis of $34.26 a share. With Apple closing last week at $146.39 a share, the Oracle of Omaha and his team are sitting on close to a $102 billion unrealized gain.\nInvestors certainly shouldn't look for this stake to be reduced any further anytime soon. That's because Buffett views Apple as Berkshire Hathaway's \"third business.\" It's a globally recognized brand with an exceptionally loyal following, as evidenced by the mammoth lines outside of its stores anytime a new product hits the shelves. And, as you're probably aware, the iPhone is the dominant smartphone by market share in the U.S.\nIn addition to Apple being a product innovation juggernaut, CEO Tim Cook is overseeing a steady transition toward services. By emphasizing various subscription-based platforms, Apple can reduce some of the revenue lumpiness associated with tech replacement cycles and likely boost its operating margins.\nA final reason Buffett isn't bailing on Apple is the company's generous shareholder return program. Though some of you might be scratching your head given that Apple's dividend yield is \"only\" 0.6%, the $0.88 base annual payout is closer to 2.6% of Berkshire Hathaway's cost basis. Tack on Apple's aggressive share repurchase program and you have a very shareholder-friendly company.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBank of America: $24,530,235,143 in unrealized gains\nThere's no industry on the planet Buffett loves more than bank stocks -- and there's no bank stock Buffett favors more than Bank of America (NYSE:BAC). Berkshire Hathaway owns over 1.03 billion shares of BofA with a cost basis of $14.17 a share. This works out to an unrealized gain of just over $24.5 billion, based on where BofA shares closed this past Friday, July 16.\nBuffett has always been a big fan of playing the economic numbers game, which is exactly what he's doing with Bank of America. Since the U.S. economy spends a disproportionate amount of time expanding, relative to contracting, bank stocks like BofA should benefit from stronger loan origination and higher net interest income. The Oracle of Omaha is fully aware that recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle, but he fully understands that the long term strongly favors optimists.\nMore specific to the business, BofA stands to benefit from eventual interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive of all the big banks, with the company noting in the June-ended quarter that a 100 basis point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve would net it an extra $8 billion in net interest income over the next 12 months.\nWith BofA pushing digitization initiatives and bolstering its dividend program, it's far likelier that Buffett ups his stake in the company than sells a single share.\n\nImage source: American Express.\nAmerican Express: $24,488,160,264 in unrealized gains\nWhereas the gains racked up in Apple and BofA have come within the past couple of years, the nearly $24.5 billion in unrealized gains in credit services behemoth American Express (NYSE:AXP) have been built up over the past 28 years. With a cost basis of right around $8.49 a share, Buffett's patience has paid off in a big way with AmEx.\nSimilar to Bank of America, American Express is a cyclical company that benefits from the aforementioned numbers game. If the U.S. and global economy are expanding, consumers and businesses are more likely to spend more, thereby helping boost payment processing revenue and profits. Keep in mind, though, AmEx is a double dipper. In addition to processing payments, it's also a credit services provider. This means it can generate growing amounts of fee revenue and interest income during long-winded periods of expansion.\nAnother facet to AmEx's success is the company's ability to bring in affluent clientele. The well-to-do are far less inclined to alter their spending habits when minor economic disruptions rear their heads. As a result, AmEx isn't as likely to be hurt by credit delinquencies as some of its lending peers.\nWith Berkshire Hathaway an American Express shareholder since 1993, I don't foresee Buffett or his team selling shares anytime soon.\n\nImage source: Coca-Cola.\nCoca-Cola: $21,262,000,000 in unrealized gains\nSpeaking of tenured holdings, no stock has been a fixture in Buffett's portfolio for longer than beverage giant Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO). With a cost basis of a fraction under $3.25 a share, Buffett and his team have piled up almost $21.3 billion in unrealized gains by owning Coca-Cola since 1988.\nLike Apple, we're talking about a company with insanely strong branding and brand recognition. Coke products are sold in all but two countries worldwide (Cuba and North Korea), and it has more than 20 brands in its product portfolio generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Coca-Cola enjoys the best of both worlds, with 20% of the developed market cold beverage share (i.e., highly predictable cash flow) and 10% of emerging market cold beverage share, which represents a higher-growth opportunity over the long run.\nBeyond geographic diversity, marketing is a big reason for Coca-Cola's success. The company has not been shy about turning to social media and well-known ambassadors to represent its brand, and it has clear holiday tie-ins that go back decades.\nConsidering that Berkshire Hathaway is netting almost a 52% annual dividend yield based on its original cost basis for Coca-Cola, there's absolutely no incentive to sell this position.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nMoody's: $9,076,258,024 in unrealized gains\nWhile Apple singlehandedly takes the crown for generating the highest unrealized return in nominal dollars for the Oracle of Omaha, credit ratings agency Moody's (NYSE:MCO) might well be Warren Buffett's greatest investment on a percentage basis of all time. Berkshire's cost basis is $10.05 a share following Moody's spinoff from Dun & Bradstreet in 2000. Moody's closed this past week at almost $378 a share -- good enough for a 3,661% return and nearly $9.1 billion unrealized gain.\nOne thing keeping Moody's busy is historically low lending rates. With the Federal Reserve standing pat for as long as possible on interest rates, businesses haven't been shy about issuing debt to hire, acquire, innovate, or even buy back stock, as in Apple's case. With so much corporate debt issued, Moody's has been active evaluating the debt landscape.\nEqually exciting has been the generally heightened levels of market volatility and economic uncertainty since the beginning of 2020. Though Moody's is best known for its credit ratings operations, its fastest-growing segment tends to be analytics. As long as deep levels of uncertainty exist, Moody's Analytics has double-digit annual growth potential.\nAs with Coke, Buffett's patience has resulted in an insanely high yield on cost with Moody's. Despite a 0.7% nominal yield, Berkshire Hathaway is netting an almost 25% yield annually, based on its initial cost basis.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":193,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":175172731,"gmtCreate":1627017598923,"gmtModify":1703482537552,"author":{"id":"3585797482260363","authorId":"3585797482260363","name":"QqSM","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585797482260363","authorIdStr":"3585797482260363"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good review. The Fed seems to be favoring its full employment mandate more than its price stability mandate.”\n“Accordingly, the upcoming Fed meeting could be impactful,” Carter said.\nBenchmark Treasury yields eased after the bid at the largest-ever TIPS auction touched a record low, pressuring rate sensitive banks.\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 25.35 points, or 0.07%, to 34,823.35, the S&P 500 gained 8.79 points, or 0.20%, to 4,367.48 and the Nasdaq Composite added 52.64 points, or 0.36%, to 14,684.60.\nOf the 11 major sectors of the S&P 500, tech was shining brightest, gaining 0.7%. Energy stocks suffered the largest percentage drop.\nThe second-quarter reporting season barreled ahead at full-throttle, with 104 of the companies in the S&P 500 having reported. Of those, 88% have beaten consensus estimates, according to Refinitiv.\nDrugmaker Biogen Inc gained 1.1% after hiking its full-year revenue guidance, while Domino’s Pizza Inc surged 14.6% to an all-time high on the heels of its quarterly report.\nSouthwest Airlines Co posted a bigger-than-expected quarterly loss, sending its stock down 3.5%, and American Airlines Group Inc dipped 1.1% even after reporting a quarterly profit.\nThe S&P 1500 Airlines index ended the session off 1.7%.\nShares of Texas Instruments Inc slid 5.3% after its current-quarter revenue forecast cast concerns as to whether the company will be able to meet spiking demand in the face of a global semiconductor shortage.\nThe Philadelphia SE Semiconductor index ended the session down 0.9%.\nChipmaker Intel Corp slipped more than 1% in extended trading after the chipmaker posted results and raised its annual revenue forecast.\nDeclining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.82-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.90-to-1 ratio favored decliners.\nThe S&P 500 posted 39 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 70 new highs and 54 new lows.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 8.25 billion shares, compared with the 10.12 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":509,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":172079396,"gmtCreate":1626923784415,"gmtModify":1703480681123,"author":{"id":"3585797482260363","authorId":"3585797482260363","name":"QqSM","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585797482260363","authorIdStr":"3585797482260363"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great summary. With a gain of just over 207% so far in 2021, Moderna’s share performance tops the index’s existing leader, L Brands Inc., which has risen about 104%.
\n
In the runup to its inclusion in the U.S. benchmark, Moderna’s stock has made fresh highs advancing more than 30% over four sessions before a 2% dip on Tuesday. Its shares closed 4.5% higher at $321.11, another record, with a market value of about $129 billion.
\n
Moderna’s rise has come largely from its innovations in developing messenger RNA vaccines, which use the body’s cells as mini vaccine factories. That has led some Wall Street analysts to call it the “Tesla of biotech” because the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company is charting a course that may change the way infectious diseases are treated.
\n
The company secured its place in the upper echelons of U.S. biotechs next to AbbVie Inc. and Amgen Inc. -- after receiving emergency authorization for its Covid-19 vaccination last December, just a week behind Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE.
\n
But the parallels with Tesla don’t necessarily bode well for Moderna’s stock. Since the day before Tesla’s inclusion in the benchmark in December, it has fallen about 6% versus the index’s gain of nearly 18%. Other recent additions to the index have also underperformed.
\n
Shares of companies entering the index typically rally ahead of the inclusion as investors adjust their portfolios. Moderna’s shares were already losing steam on Tuesday, closing 2% lower at $307.33.
\n
Skeptics of Moderna’s surge in recent months note that its pipeline is in the early stages of human testing while the market for Covid-19 booster shots isn’t yet fully understood.
\n
Still, recent lab results show Moderna’s jab produces antibodies against the Covid-19 Delta variant. Analysts at Goldman Sachs also predict Moderna could have a new flu shot on the market by 2023 and a combination of a flu and Covid-19 vaccine as soon as 2024. The company also is working on new vaccines and medicines for cancer and HIV as well as Zika and heart disease.
\n
A survey of 191 hedge funds and institutional investors from Jefferies trading desk indicated that roughly 73% of respondents expect Moderna shares to be little changed or to fall 20% or worse into year end.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose more than 530 points in afternoon trading, paced by economically-centric names such as American Express (AXP), IBM (IBM) and Goldman Sachs (GS).
\n
Small-cap stocks as measured by the Russell 2000 (^RUT) also rose solidly.
\n
Despite the market turnaround Tuesday, angst lingers after Monday's steep sell-off. Triggered by rising COVID-19 infections globally, investors reasoned that economies would be forced to close again due to increased infections. Or at the very least, economic recoveries from the depths of the pandemic would stall out soon as mobility restrictions are reimposed.
\n

\n
The Nasdaq (^IXIC) and S&P 500 (^GSPC) notched their biggest drop in nearly two months. Meanwhile, the benchmark 10-year note had its largest decline in over three months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 900 points, marking its its worst drop since October 2020.
\n
The Dow Jones Transportation Index (^DJT) — which tracks the performance of economically sensitive names such as FedEx (FDX)— declined deeper into correction territory (down 10% from its highs).
\n
Even the often teflon stock known as Apple (AAPL) lost 3%.
\n
Some of the lone winners in Monday's drubbing were the popular 2020 stay-at-home trades — for instance, Peloton (PTON) gained 8% and Etsy (ETSY) advanced 3.5%.
\n
\"This market is vulnerable to news that could turn yesterday’s decline into something more material,\" Essaye says. The strategist, however, continues to view dips in the market as buying opportunities in large part because of low interest rates and the existence of COVID-19 vaccines.
\n
But others on the Street are more cautious, preferring to watch the action right now rather than view market dips as attractive entry points into stocks. Their collective reason: The pandemic is far from over, and the market best realize that and quickly.
\n
\"I am not saying we aren't having a [economic] recovery, but what it did for me [Monday's sell-off] was just remind me that COVID does inject an uncertainty and perhaps some unevenness, some bumps along the road. It won't be all smooth sailing,\" said Lori Calvasina, RBC's head of U.S. equity strategy, on Yahoo Finance Live. \"This is not a market that could absorb bad news.\"
\n
Monday's market beating proves that theory out.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose more than 530 points in afternoon trading, paced by economically-centric names such as American Express (AXP), IBM (IBM) and Goldman Sachs (GS).\nSmall-cap stocks as measured by the Russell 2000 (^RUT) also rose solidly.\nDespite the market turnaround Tuesday, angst lingers after Monday's steep sell-off. Triggered by rising COVID-19 infections globally, investors reasoned that economies would be forced to close again due to increased infections. Or at the very least, economic recoveries from the depths of the pandemic would stall out soon as mobility restrictions are reimposed.\n\nThe Nasdaq (^IXIC) and S&P 500 (^GSPC) notched their biggest drop in nearly two months. Meanwhile, the benchmark 10-year note had its largest decline in over three months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 900 points, marking its its worst drop since October 2020.\nThe Dow Jones Transportation Index (^DJT) — which tracks the performance of economically sensitive names such as FedEx (FDX)— declined deeper into correction territory (down 10% from its highs).\nEven the often teflon stock known as Apple (AAPL) lost 3%.\nSome of the lone winners in Monday's drubbing were the popular 2020 stay-at-home trades — for instance, Peloton (PTON) gained 8% and Etsy (ETSY) advanced 3.5%.\n\"This market is vulnerable to news that could turn yesterday’s decline into something more material,\" Essaye says. The strategist, however, continues to view dips in the market as buying opportunities in large part because of low interest rates and the existence of COVID-19 vaccines.\nBut others on the Street are more cautious, preferring to watch the action right now rather than view market dips as attractive entry points into stocks. Their collective reason: The pandemic is far from over, and the market best realize that and quickly.\n\"I am not saying we aren't having a [economic] recovery, but what it did for me [Monday's sell-off] was just remind me that COVID does inject an uncertainty and perhaps some unevenness, some bumps along the road. It won't be all smooth sailing,\" said Lori Calvasina, RBC's head of U.S. equity strategy, on Yahoo Finance Live. \"This is not a market that could absorb bad news.\"\nMonday's market beating proves that theory out.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":93,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":809426222,"gmtCreate":1627388655666,"gmtModify":1703488923319,"author":{"id":"3585797482260363","authorId":"3585797482260363","name":"QqSM","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585797482260363","authorIdStr":"3585797482260363"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice analysis.
