ten years' time.
\n
What Happened:The Apple Insider has reported, quoting Bloomberg's Mark Gurman's \"Power On\" newsletter, that Apple employees think Cook will stay around for one more major new product category before stepping down as CEO.
\n
\"The belief inside Apple is that Cook just wants to stick around for one more major new product category, which is likely to be Augmented Reality Glasses rather than a car — something that's even further out,\" writes Gurman.
\n
In December 2020, Reuters reported Apple is aiming to launch an autonomous electric vehicle in 2024.
\n
\"He also understands that running a Silicon Valley company is typically a young person's game, and he's not going to stay far beyond his prime,\" Gurman added.
\n
In April, when asked about staying with Apple for a decade, Cook said, \"Ten more years? Probably not. But I can tell you that I feel great right now and the date is not in sight. But ten more years is a long time — and probably not ten more years.\"
\n
Gurman speculates that Cook will retire sometime between 2025 and 2028. He added that Cook's pay deal would also expire in 2025.
\n
Why It Matters:Just ten years ago,Tim Cook took over as CEO of Apple for iconic visionary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. At Jobs' departure, some investors and analysts were skeptical of Cook's ability to fill Jobs' shoes.
\n
Apple integrated its popular voice assistant Siri into the iPhone 4S in 2011. During the inflation scare between mid-April and mid-May, for example, value stocks outperformed growth stocks — just as conventional wisdom would expect. Since mid-May, inflation worries have receded and value stocks have lagged.
\n
It doesn’t always work out this neatly. In fact, I could find no noteworthy historical relationship between inflation’s short-term trend and the performance of either the stock market as a whole or the relative performance of value- and growth stocks.
\n
To search for such correlations, I started by analyzing monthly inflation, interest rates and stock market data from Yale University finance professor Robert Shiller going back to 1871. I calculated the correlation coefficients between inflation and the S&P 500 over different short-term periods extending from the trailing one month to trailing 12 months.
\n
I largely came up empty. Consider the extent to which changes in the CPI explain or predict simultaneous changes in the S&P 500 (as measured by a statistic known as r-squared). Regardless of the time horizon between one- and 12 months, the CPI (or its predecessor) since 1871 has been able to predict no more than 4% of the S&P 500’s gyrations. (Note carefully that, when measuring these correlations, I focused on the S&P 500’s inflation-adjusted total return so as not to bias my calculations.)
\n
One of the reasons for the absence of a strong correlation is that the stock market has a love-hate relationship with inflation. When investors are more worried about economic weakness, or even deflation, higher inflation is sometimes seen as a good thing. At other times inflation and stocks are inversely correlated.
\n
This fluctuating correlation is illustrated in the chart below, which tracks the correlation coefficient between the CPI and the S&P 500’s inflation-adjusted total return over the trailing 12 months. Notice the absence of any consistent relationship.
\n

\n
As a double-check on this surprising conclusion, I reran my analysis focusing on interest rates rather than the CPI. That’s revealing because interest rates reflect not only recent changes in inflation but also expected future inflation. The correlations between short-term movements in interest rates and the stock market were even weaker than when I focused on inflation.
\n
Value vs. growth when inflation and interest rates rise
\n
What about value’s performance relative to growth? Surely it historically has followed the same pattern we’ve seen over the past couple of months?
\n
Not so. To reach that counterintuitive conclusion, I analyzed the monthly returns of U.S. value and growth stocks since 1926, courtesy of data from Dartmouth College finance professor Ken French. During the inflation scare between mid-April and mid-May, for example, value stocks outperformed growth stocks — just as conventional wisdom would expect. Since mid-May, inflation worries have receded and value stocks have lagged.\nIt doesn’t always work out this neatly. In fact, I could find no noteworthy historical relationship between inflation’s short-term trend and the performance of either the stock market as a whole or the relative performance of value- and growth stocks.\nTo search for such correlations, I started by analyzing monthly inflation, interest rates and stock market data from Yale University finance professor Robert Shiller going back to 1871. I calculated the correlation coefficients between inflation and the S&P 500 over different short-term periods extending from the trailing one month to trailing 12 months.\nI largely came up empty. (Note carefully that, when measuring these correlations, I focused on the S&P 500’s inflation-adjusted total return so as not to bias my calculations.)\nOne of the reasons for the absence of a strong correlation is that the stock market has a love-hate relationship with inflation. When investors are more worried about economic weakness, or even deflation, higher inflation is sometimes seen as a good thing. At other times inflation and stocks are inversely correlated.\nThis fluctuating correlation is illustrated in the chart below, which tracks the correlation coefficient between the CPI and the S&P 500’s inflation-adjusted total return over the trailing 12 months. Notice the absence of any consistent relationship.\n\nAs a double-check on this surprising conclusion, I reran my analysis focusing on interest rates rather than the CPI. That’s revealing because interest rates reflect not only recent changes in inflation but also expected future inflation. The correlations between short-term movements in interest rates and the stock market were even weaker than when I focused on inflation.\nValue vs. growth when inflation and interest rates rise\nWhat about value’s performance relative to growth? Surely it historically has followed the same pattern we’ve seen over the past couple of months?\nNot so. To reach that counterintuitive conclusion, I analyzed the monthly returns of U.S. value and growth stocks since 1926, courtesy of data from Dartmouth College finance professor Ken French. (Specifically, the value stock portfolio contained the 30% of the U.S. market with the lowest book/market ratios, while the growth stock portfolio contained the 30% with the highest such ratios.) When focusing on all trailing time periods from one- to 12 months, I found no statistically significant correlation between inflation and the relative performance of value and growth stocks.\nEven more surprising is what emerged when focusing on the relationship between interest rates and value’s performance relative to growth: I found an inverse correlation. That is just the opposite of what we saw over the past couple of months, and the opposite of what conventional wisdom teaches us about how value stocks should perform in a rising interest rate environment.\nMy analysis doesn’t suggest that investors should now do the opposite, betting on value when previously they bet on growth, or vice versa. The point of this analysis is that there’s an unsteady and often insignificant historical relationship between inflation and interest rates, on the one hand, and the stock market and value’s performance relative to growth, on the other.\nShort-term stock-market timers need to look elsewhere for stronger clues as to where the market is headed.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9934796350,"gmtCreate":1663296703470,"gmtModify":1676537247042,"author":{"id":"3586778691224672","authorId":"3586778691224672","name":"domL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/498db4712a4305a14688586cbd7c8243","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586778691224672","authorIdStr":"3586778691224672"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a That effort sought to unionize workers at a single warehouse in Bessemer through a National Labor Relations Board election.
\n
The Teamsters' aim is to go after \"Amazon as an employer rather than trying to organize site-by-site and workplace-by-workplace, which was what the Bessemer organizing drive ended up being,\" said Rebecca Givan, an associate labor studies professor at Rutgers University, who noted that there's likely not a single path to success when it comes to the Teamsters' approach.
\n
\"[The Teamsters] can try a number of different paths and deploy a number of different strategies. Brent futures traded near $74 a barrel on Monday.
\n
While other market-watchers, from trading house Trafigura Groupto Goldman Sachs Group Inc., have already said that oil could reach $100 again in the right conditions, the prediction from Bank of America is the firmest to date.
\n
If crude does return to triple digits, it will be the first time since 2014, before a flood of North American shale oil sent the market into a slump from which it has never fully recovered.
\n
The increasingly bullish outlook for oil is adding to pressure on the OPEC+ coalition led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, which meets next week to consider reviving some more of the production it cut during the pandemic.
\n
While Riyadh has signaled it prefers to move cautiously, an ever-tighter world market could compel the alliance to open the taps a little. Brent futures traded near $74 a barrel on Monday.\nWhile other market-watchers, from trading house Trafigura Groupto Goldman Sachs Group Inc., have already said that oil could reach $100 again in the right conditions, the prediction from Bank of America is the firmest to date.\nIf crude does return to triple digits, it will be the first time since 2014, before a flood of North American shale oil sent the market into a slump from which it has never fully recovered.\nThe increasingly bullish outlook for oil is adding to pressure on the OPEC+ coalition led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, which meets next week to consider reviving some more of the production it cut during the pandemic.\nWhile Riyadh has signaled it prefers to move cautiously, an ever-tighter world market could compel the alliance to open the taps a little. Prices have been stoked this month as fellow OPEC memberIranfails to clinch an agreement to relieve U.S. sanctions on its petroleum exports.\nCar Travel\nAccording to Bank of America, the immediate prospects for the OPEC+ alliance are bright.\nOil consumption will be bolstered next year as mass transit struggles to keep pace with extra travel demand, prompting passengers to make greater use of private cars.\nEven the ongoing popularity of remote working won’t dent fuel consumption as much as expected, as home-workers use cars during the day to run personal errands, the bank said.\n“Work-from-home means ‘work-from-car’ in many cases,” Blanch said.\nAt the same time, the bank expects that new oil supplies will remain constrained. Shareholders will pressure major companies to invest in renewable energy, or push shale drillers to return cash rather than spend on new drilling.\nStill, expectations for a tight market in 2022 are far from unanimous. A report from the International Energy Agency earlier this month showed that half of the projected increase in demand can be met by recovering output outside OPEC, predominantly from the U.S.\nThat would leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners with significant quantities of idle output -- and even more if Iran can strike a nuclear accord with the U.S. by then.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":98,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9019527430,"gmtCreate":1648611625045,"gmtModify":1676534364926,"author":{"id":"3586778691224672","authorId":"3586778691224672","name":"domL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/498db4712a4305a14688586cbd7c8243","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586778691224672","authorIdStr":"3586778691224672"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Invesco QQQ Trust(QQQ)$up up","listText":"$Invesco QQQ Trust(QQQ)$up up","text":"$Invesco QQQ Trust(QQQ)$up up","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/14ff90bd78b366c37f1eac6ca6776eb6","width":"1125","height":"3063"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9019527430","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":236,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
