its biggest daily percentage drop in two weeks, as investors shifted to defensive sectors and safe havens such as bonds and gold as geopolitical tensions between Washington and Russia over Ukraine flared.

After Ukrainian forces and pro-Moscow rebels traded fire in eastern Ukraine, U.S. President Joe Biden said there was every indication Russia was planning to invade in the next few days and was preparing a pretext to justify it.

Russia accused Biden of stoking tensions and released a strongly worded letter saying Washington was ignoring its security demands and threatening unspecified "military-technical measures".

On Wall Street, the growth-oriented technology and communication services sectors were among the hardest hit. Financials also declined as U.S. Treasury yields moved lower.

Developments in Ukraine have added to uncertainty about the path of the Federal Reserve's tightening plans to fight inflation.

"There's a lot of nervousness out there and as we approach the weekend nothing’s been settled between Russia and Ukraine," said Michael James, managing director, equity trading at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles.

"The continued weakness, especially in the growth names, is indicative of elevated nervousness and sellers continuing to swamp buyers in just about every stock."

The defensive utilities and consumer staples

sectors were Wall Street's only advancers, with staples getting a lift from a 4.01% jump in Walmart after it posted record holiday sales.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 622.24 points, or 1.78%, to 34,312.03, the S&P 500 lost 94.75 points, or 2.12%, to 4,380.26 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 407.38 points, or 2.88%, to 13,716.72.

The drop for the Dow was the biggest daily percentage decline since Nov. 30 while the Nasdaq's decline was its largest percentage fall since Feb. 3.

With the end of earnings season on the horizon, chipmaker Nvidia tumbled 7.51% as flat gross margins and concern about its exposure to the crypto market overshadowed an upbeat current-quarter revenue forecast, and helped give the Philadelphia Semiconductor index its first daily decline this week.

TripAdvisor Inc lost 2.50% after the hotel search website operator posted a surprise fourth-quarter loss. Albemarle Corp plunged 19.91% as the lithium producer forecast downbeat annual earnings.

As risk aversion pushed bond yields lower, big banks including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America all lost ground. Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo fell even after positive outlooks from the lenders.

Gold was another beneficiary of the move toward safer assets, touching an eight-month high of $1,900.99 an ounce.

Among other big movers, DoorDash Inc shot up 10.69% after it reported upbeat quarterly revenue as food delivery demand showed no sign of slowing.

Hasbro Inc gained 2.09% after activist investor Alta Fox Capital Management nominated five directors to the toymaker's board and urged changes including a spinoff of its unit housing games such as "Dungeons & Dragons".

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 2.81-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 3.63-to-1 ratio favored decliners.

The S&P 500 posted 6 new 52-week highs and 19 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 27 new highs and 249 new lows.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The electric vehicle leader has once again demonstrated its prowess this week in the face of bearish analyst reports. So what do you need to know about TSLA stock right now?On Monday, Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi reiterated his “sell” recommendation and his $300 price target. The analyst shared concerns around a slowdown in the full-self driving (FSD) software and delays in production of a $25,000 car. However, investors learned again today that one analyst isn’t strong enough to drive down a company like Tesla. You should brush off Sacconaghi’s concerns and embrace TSLA stock as a winner. What Is Happening With TSLA StockIn his note, Sacconaghiexpressed concern that Tesla wouldn’t be developing a more affordable electric vehicle in the near future. The decision “feels at odds with Tesla’s goal of driving EV adoption as quickly as possible,” he wrote. The analyst is referring to CEO Elon Musk’s eyebrow-raising comments during the fourth-quarter earnings call. There, he shared that the automaker would not be prioritizing new models in 2022. Instead, Tesla would focus on scaling production of its current lineup. This decision stems, at least partially, from ongoing global supply chain issues. While Sacconaghi sees the decision to not prioritize a $25,000 car before 2025 as a problem, Musk’s decision exemplifies what investors should like about Tesla. The EV maker made it through 2021 despite supply chain challenges, still posting record deliveries for Q4. Focusing on what it knows — and on what sells — in 2022 is a smart decision.Beyond that, recent data reveal that Tesla is the most-searched car brand in the world. When consumers shop for electric vehicles, Tesla is still the first name they think of. That holds true despite its high prices.Indeed, it will serve Tesla well to continue with its current business model and not cheapen its brand. Driving a Tesla is still considered a status symbol by many, giving it a competitive edge. What Comes NextThe bottom line is that Tesla does not need to cheapen its name by producing more affordable cars, at least right now. A revolution in electric vehicles is underway, and the road ahead for Tesla looks smooth.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1642,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9094323116,"gmtCreate":1645063486830,"gmtModify":1676533993327,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586826549848021","authorIdStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!","listText":"Great!","text":"Great!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9094323116","repostId":"1191171027","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1191171027","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1645061443,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191171027?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-17 09:30","market":"other","language":"en","title":"Australian Hiring Persists Through Omicron, Signaling Resilience","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191171027","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Australia’s economy unexpectedly added jobs last month while unemployment held up, underscoring the ","content":"
\n
Australia’s economy unexpectedly added jobs last month while unemployment held up, underscoring the resilience of the labor market in the face of a renewed coronavirus outbreak.Employment increased by...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Unemployment was steady at 4.2% despite participation edging up. The impact of the omicron variant of coronavirus was seen in hours worked, which dropped by 8.8%.Australian bonds advanced after the jobs numbers, bringing the three-year yield down two basis points to 1.63%. The Aussie dollar edged lower to 71.96 U.S. cents. Futures traders trimmed bets that the Reserve Bank will hike interest rates in May to about 60%, from 80% odds seen on Tuesday.“Nationally, and in New South Wales and Victoria, the number of people who worked reduced hours because they were sick was around three times the pre-pandemic average for January,” said Bjorn Jarvis, head of labor statistics at the ABS. “In other states and territories, it was twice as many people.”The survey was conducted in the first two weeks of January, at the peak of the omicron wave when Australia had about 800,000 active Covid-19 cases. The strength of Australia’s labor market is a key reason why economists and financial markets expect the RBA will begin raising rates in coming months. Governor Philip Lowe, by contrast, reckons it will take time for low unemployment to translate into much faster wages growth, suggesting a tightening cycle remains some way off.RBA Says Pickup in Wages Growth Likely to Be ‘Only Gradual’ (1)Figures from the National Skills Commission this week showed the Internet Vacancy Index climbed 4.4% last month to a 13-year high. Over the year to January, recruitment activity is up nearly 41% with advertisements at all-time highs in 10 occupations. The RBA forecasts unemployment will this year fall below 4%, a level unseen since the early 1970s, though wages growth is only seen lifting to 3% in 2023. Lowe wants faster wages growth in order to sustainably return inflation to its 2-3% target before he begins raising rates after a prolonged period of weak consumer-price growth.Other Details:Full-time roles decreased by 17,000 while part-time positions rose by 30,000The underemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage point to 6.7%Underutilization increased 0.1 percentage point to 10.9%The participation rate rose to 66.2% from 66.1% a month earlier","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"XAO.AU":0,"XJO.AU":0,"XKO.AU":0}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1502,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9095717384,"gmtCreate":1644991106235,"gmtModify":1676533984340,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586826549848021","authorIdStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice! Business","summary":"New York (CNN Business) - Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been criticized by progressives","content":"
New York (CNN Business) - Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been criticized by progressives for going soft on big banks and not doing enough to address the climate crisis. Now, a lifelong Republican is joining that critique.
\n
Sheila Bair, one of the few American regulators who sounded the alarm prior to the subprime mortgage meltdown, told CNN that Powell has presided over a troubling rollback of the rules installed to prevent a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis.
\n
\"His real weakness is on financial regulation,\" said Bair, who led the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 2006 to 2011. \"Oversight is weaker since Janet Yellen left. That's an easy one.\"
\n
Bair, an appointee of President George W. Bush, also said that the Powell-led Fed hasn't done enough to address climate change. She called for a more structured consideration of climate risk in bank supervising and stress testing.
\n
\"There are very real financial risks the banking system is exposed to because of climate,\" Bair said.
\n
Biden's big decision
\n
The comments come as President Joe Biden weighs reappointing Powell to another four-year term leading the world's most powerful central bank. Progressives, led by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have called on Biden to replace Powellas chairman when his term expires in February.
\n
A White House official previously told CNN that Biden will appoint candidates to the Fed who he thinks \"will be the most effective in implementing monetary policy.\"
\n
Powell has been praised by some economists for his response to the biggest test of his tenure: the global pandemic.
\n
In March 2020, the Fed moved swiftly to slash interest rates to zero and announced unprecedented programs aimed at unfreezing credit markets. Some economists argue those emergency actions prevented the Covid recession from morphing into a full-blown depression.
\n
Bair said Powell deserves \"high marks for acting quickly and decisively\" to the pandemic that erupted in March 2020 and for publicly communicating the Fed's mission.
\n
'It's all weakening'
\n
However, the former FDIC chief argues the Fed and other agencies should have been tightening financial regulations prior to the arrival of Covid to snuff out asset bubbles and force banks to build capital buffers ahead of a potential storm.
\n
\"They did the opposite. They kept loosening and loosening, even as the economy was growing well under Trump,\" said Bair, who has long been an outspoken proponent of tougher regulation. \"It definitely disregards a key lesson of the financial crisis.\"
\n
The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which spent more than a year examining the causes of the financial crisis, found that regulatory lapses contributed to the 2008 meltdown.
\n
\"Widespread failures in financial regulation and supervision proved devastating to the stability of the nation's financial markets,\"the commission concluded.
\n
Today, Bair serves on various boards, including at Fannie Mae where she's the chair. Bair is also reviving her career as a children's book author by launching a series of books titled Money Tales, that will focus on financial education.
\n
The vast majority of the 2010 financial reform law known as Dodd-Frank is still in effect today. Yet Bair worries about a steady chipping away of those safeguards. She pointed to a slew of changes made during the Powell era, including altering bank stress test assumptions, reforming the controversial Volcker Rule and eliminating a margin requirement on derivatives transactions.
\n
During each of those regulatory tweaks, proponents have cited a desire to \"modernize\" the rules of the road. Bair rejects that sentiment.
\n
\"I don't know how that's modernization. Directionally, it's all weakening,\" she said. \"If they want to modernize, it would be nice to see them kick into gear on cryptocurrency. That's been a very slow train.\"
\n
(Bair sits on the board of Paxos, a fintech company backed by PayPal that describes itself as the first regulated blockchain infrastructure platform.)
\n
Powell defends regulatory record
\n
Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of investment firm SkyBridge Capital, defended Powell's tenure running the Fed and questioned who would be a better candidate.
\n
\"Jerome Powell has by and large done a very good job,\" Scaramucci told CNN. \"If you want to replace him for optics purposes, go ahead. But I think it would be a mistake.\"
\n
The Federal Reserve declined to comment in response to Bair's criticism.
\n
Despite Bair's comments, the Powell-led Fed has taken steps to address the climate crisis.
\n
Late last year, the central bank joined an international network of global financial regulators focused on climate change. In June,Powell said the climate crisis poses \"profound challenges for the global economy and certainly the financial system.\"
\n
During a July Senate hearing, Powell defended his regulatory track record. He argued the severity of stress tests has \"very much been maintained\" and effectively raised capital requirements for the biggest banks. Powell also pointed to how last year the Fed suspended share buybacks for banks and capped dividends, steps that drove their capital levels even higher.
\n
\"By and large, our financial institutions are well capitalized,\" Powell said. \"They did manage to get through the recent pandemic and the acute phase of it and the recovery and did their jobs during it.\"
\n
Banks survived this time
\n
The Fed announced last month that big banks will be required to hold approximately $1 trillion in high-quality capital — \"enough to survive a severe recession and still be able to lend to households and businesses.\"
\n
Bair agrees that banks are certainly better capitalized than during the last crisis, when the implosion of Lehman Brothers threatened to tank the entire financial system.
\n
However, Bair pointed out that big banks benefited massively from the Fed's unprecedented intervention in March 2020, including its promise to buy junk bonds and other corporate debt.
\n
\"I don't think they have a lot to brag about,\" Bair said of the major banks. \"I'm glad they didn't fail. The electric vehicle leader has once again demonstrated its prowess this week in the face of bearish analyst reports. A revolution in electric vehicles is underway, and the road ahead for Tesla looks smooth.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1642,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":884020597,"gmtCreate":1631840950019,"gmtModify":1676530649251,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good for consumers","listText":"Good for consumers","text":"Good for consumers","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/884020597","repostId":"2168547276","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1532,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":886292722,"gmtCreate":1631592115666,"gmtModify":1676530584620,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/886292722","repostId":"1153845005","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":829,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":883539766,"gmtCreate":1631252656755,"gmtModify":1676530509693,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks ","listText":"Thanks ","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/883539766","repostId":"1174037142","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1174037142","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1631251640,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1174037142?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-10 13:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Lehman-era regulator says Jerome Powell forgot a key lesson of 2008","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1174037142","media":"CNN Business","summary":"New York (CNN Business) - Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been criticized by progressives","content":"
But I think a lot of them would have if the Fed hadn't stepped in big time to rescue the whole economy.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Lehman-era regulator says Jerome Powell forgot a key lesson of 2008
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nLehman-era regulator says Jerome Powell forgot a key lesson of 2008\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-10 13:27 GMT+8 CNN Business\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
New York (CNN Business) - Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been criticized by progressives for going soft on big banks and not doing enough to address the climate crisis. Some economists argue those emergency actions prevented the Covid recession from morphing into a full-blown depression.\nBair said Powell deserves \"high marks for acting quickly and decisively\" to the pandemic that erupted in March 2020 and for publicly communicating the Fed's mission.\n'It's all weakening'\nHowever, the former FDIC chief argues the Fed and other agencies should have been tightening financial regulations prior to the arrival of Covid to snuff out asset bubbles and force banks to build capital buffers ahead of a potential storm.\n\"They did the opposite. They kept loosening and loosening, even as the economy was growing well under Trump,\" said Bair, who has long been an outspoken proponent of tougher regulation. \"It definitely disregards a key lesson of the financial crisis.\"\nThe Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which spent more than a year examining the causes of the financial crisis, found that regulatory lapses contributed to the 2008 meltdown.\n\"Widespread failures in financial regulation and supervision proved devastating to the stability of the nation's financial markets,\"the commission concluded.\nToday, Bair serves on various boards, including at Fannie Mae where she's the chair. Bair is also reviving her career as a children's book author by launching a series of books titled Money Tales, that will focus on financial education.\nThe vast majority of the 2010 financial reform law known as Dodd-Frank is still in effect today. Yet Bair worries about a steady chipping away of those safeguards. She pointed to a slew of changes made during the Powell era, including altering bank stress test assumptions, reforming the controversial Volcker Rule and eliminating a margin requirement on derivatives transactions.\nDuring each of those regulatory tweaks, proponents have cited a desire to \"modernize\" the rules of the road. Bair rejects that sentiment.\n\"I don't know how that's modernization. Directionally, it's all weakening,\" she said. \"If they want to modernize, it would be nice to see them kick into gear on cryptocurrency. That's been a very slow train.\"\n(Bair sits on the board of Paxos, a fintech company backed by PayPal that describes itself as the first regulated blockchain infrastructure platform.)\nPowell defends regulatory record\nAnthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of investment firm SkyBridge Capital, defended Powell's tenure running the Fed and questioned who would be a better candidate.\n\"Jerome Powell has by and large done a very good job,\" Scaramucci told CNN. \"If you want to replace him for optics purposes, go ahead. But I think it would be a mistake.\"\nThe Federal Reserve declined to comment in response to Bair's criticism.\nDespite Bair's comments, the Powell-led Fed has taken steps to address the climate crisis.\nLate last year, the central bank joined an international network of global financial regulators focused on climate change. In June,Powell said the climate crisis poses \"profound challenges for the global economy and certainly the financial system.\"\nDuring a July Senate hearing, Powell defended his regulatory track record. He argued the severity of stress tests has \"very much been maintained\" and effectively raised capital requirements for the biggest banks. Powell also pointed to how last year the Fed suspended share buybacks for banks and capped dividends, steps that drove their capital levels even higher.\n\"By and large, our financial institutions are well capitalized,\" Powell said. \"They did manage to get through the recent pandemic and the acute phase of it and the recovery and did their jobs during it.\"\nBanks survived this time\nThe Fed announced last month that big banks will be required to hold approximately $1 trillion in high-quality capital — \"enough to survive a severe recession and still be able to lend to households and businesses.\"\nBair agrees that banks are certainly better capitalized than during the last crisis, when the implosion of Lehman Brothers threatened to tank the entire financial system.\nHowever, Bair pointed out that big banks benefited massively from the Fed's unprecedented intervention in March 2020, including its promise to buy junk bonds and other corporate debt.\n\"I don't think they have a lot to brag about,\" Bair said of the major banks. \"I'm glad they didn't fail. But I think a lot of them would have if the Fed hadn't stepped in big time to rescue the whole economy.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".DJI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":524,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":813359402,"gmtCreate":1630136778506,"gmtModify":1676530233340,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] ","listText":"[Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] ","text":"[Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/813359402","repostId":"2162024053","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":639,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9094294598,"gmtCreate":1645147409902,"gmtModify":1676534003051,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Peace ","listText":"Peace ","text":"Peace","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9094294598","repostId":"2212149643","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2212149643","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1645139000,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2212149643?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-18 07:03","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US STOCKS-Stocks Slide as Heightened Ukraine Tensions Weigh","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2212149643","media":"Reuters","summary":"U.S. stocks slid on Thursday, with the S&P 500 marking its biggest daily percentage drop in two weeks, as investors shifted to defensive sectors and safe havens such as bonds and gold as geopolitical ","content":"

U.S. stocks slid on Thursday, with the S&P 500 marking its biggest daily percentage drop in two weeks, as investors shifted to defensive sectors and safe havens such as bonds and gold as geopolitical tensions between Washington and Russia over Ukraine flared.

On Wall Street, the growth-oriented technology and communication services sectors were among the hardest hit. economy unexpectedly added jobs last month while unemployment held up, underscoring the resilience of the labor market in the face of a renewed coronavirus outbreak.Employment increased by 12,900 roles in January from a month earlier, Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed Thursday. Unemployment was steady at 4.2% despite participation edging up. The impact of the omicron variant of coronavirus was seen in hours worked, which dropped by 8.8%.Australian bonds advanced after the jobs numbers, bringing the three-year yield down two basis points to 1.63%. The Aussie dollar edged lower to 71.96 U.S. cents. Futures traders trimmed bets that the Reserve Bank will hike interest rates in May to about 60%, from 80% odds seen on Tuesday.“Nationally, and in New South Wales and Victoria, the number of people who worked reduced hours because they were sick was around three times the pre-pandemic average for January,” said Bjorn Jarvis, head of labor statistics at the ABS. “In other states and territories, it was twice as many people.”The survey was conducted in the first two weeks of January, at the peak of the omicron wave when Australia had about 800,000 active Covid-19 cases.The strength of Australia’s labor market is a key reason why economists and financial markets expect the RBA will begin raising rates in coming months. Governor Philip Lowe, by contrast, reckons it will take time for low unemployment to translate into much faster wages growth, suggesting a tightening cycle remains some way off.RBA Says Pickup in Wages Growth Likely to Be ‘Only Gradual’ (1)Figures from the National Skills Commission this week showed the Internet Vacancy Index climbed 4.4% last month to a 13-year high. Over the year to January, recruitment activity is up nearly 41% with advertisements at all-time highs in 10 occupations.The RBA forecasts unemployment will this year fall below 4%, a level unseen since the early 1970s, though wages growth is only seen lifting to 3% in 2023. Lowe wants faster wages growth in order to sustainably return inflation to its 2-3% target before he begins raising rates after a prolonged period of weak consumer-price growth.Other Details:Full-time roles decreased by 17,000 while part-time positions rose by 30,000The underemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage point to 6.7%Underutilization increased 0.1 percentage point to 10.9%The participation rate rose to 66.2% from 66.1% a month earlier","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"XAO.AU":0,"XJO.AU":0,"XKO.AU":0}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1502,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":860648675,"gmtCreate":1632179325697,"gmtModify":1676530716861,"author":{"id":"3586826549848021","authorId":"3586826549848021","name":"Liujia2","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42101c6369cc6f52c0e3228c6bdfc02d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586826549848021","idStr":"3586826549848021"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!","listText":"Great!","text":"Great!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/860648675","repostId":"2168408683","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1698,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
