long-term o","content":"

FuboTV(FUBO) is in a deeply negative capital position.

FuboTV's management has miraculous long-term objectives.

Investors can play it safe by staying away from FUBO stock.

New York-headquartered FuboTV(NYSE:FUBO) is a sports-focused streaming and wagering company. FUBO stock shot to the moon not long ago, but this probably is not sustainable.

FuboTVâs capital position is deeply negative. So, even when FuboTVâs management sets sky-high financial objectives, investors can stay grounded and ignore the hype.

Letâs not mince words here. Itâs a tough time to try to operate sports betting business. As inflation soared this year, FuboTV became the poster child of 2021âs growth plays gone wrong.

Still, this hasnât stopped FuboTVâs management from setting âbold targets,â as one analyst politely put it. Check FuboTVâs capital position and youâll likely find, however, that the companyâs lofty future goals donât justify investor interest today.

What Happened to FUBO Stock?

Since FUBO stock is still essentially a meme stock, itâs prone to wild price moves regardless of FuboTVâs fundamentals. For instance, the companyâs shares closed up 45% on Aug. 17 even though a Wedbush analyst had just downgraded the shares.

Itâs difficult to prove this, but it sounds like meme stock traders were trying to make a quick buck. Folks who followed them into the abyss were soon punished, though, as FuboTV shares coughed up those ill-gotten mid-August gains by early September.

Circling back to the âbold targetsâ quote, it came from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter. He warned that the company needed to raise capital and reduce cash burn or âit will be out of cash within a year.â

Overeager traders temporarily bid up FUBO stock despite Pachterâs dire prediction. The analyst also said he wasnât certain how dilutive any capital gain raise would be and worried about how soon they would take to reduce capital burn.

FuboTV Wonât Be Cash Flow Positive for a While

Pachterâs comments apparently refer to comments made by FuboTVâs management, which can be reviewed in the companyâs second-quarter 2022shareholder letter. In that letter, the companyâs management stated FuboTVâs intention attain positive cash flow by 2025.

In other words, donât expect FuboTV to be cash flow positive for several years, at least. This, along with Pachterâs concern about FuboTV diluting its shares through capital-raising efforts, should be off-putting to prospective FUBO stock investors.

Meanwhile, Evercore analyst Shweta Khajuria observed that FuboTVâs management expects to achieve not only positive free cash flow, but also positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, by 2025. Letâs see how the company is doing in 2022, though.

FuboTVâs shareholder letter reveals that the companyâs adjusted EBITDA was an already worrisome -$47.4 million in 2021âs second quarter. That financial hole deepened substantially to -$79.1 million in Q2 of 2022.

Now, letâs talk about cash flow, since FuboTVâs management seemed so eager to discuss this topic. Actually, we can let the folks at FuboTV speak for themselves:

âOperating cash flow in [Q2 2022] was negative $91.3 million, including $7.7 million operating cash outflow associated with the wagering business. This represented a $35.3 sequential reduction in operating cash flow.â

FUBO Stock Isnât Worth Gambling On

FuboTVâs management is free to engage in wishful thinking if they want to do so. FUBO stock shot to the moon not long ago, but this probably is not sustainable.FuboTVâs capital position is deeply negative. So, even when FuboTVâs management sets sky-high financial objectives, investors can stay grounded and ignore the hype.Letâs not mince words here. Itâs a tough time to try to operate sports betting business. As inflation soared this year, FuboTV became the poster child of 2021âs growth plays gone wrong.Still, this hasnât stopped FuboTVâs management from setting âbold targets,â as one analyst politely put it. Check FuboTVâs capital position and youâll likely find, however, that the companyâs lofty future goals donât justify investor interest today. What Happened to FUBO Stock?Since FUBO stock is still essentially a meme stock, itâs prone to wild price moves regardless of FuboTVâs fundamentals. For instance, the companyâs shares closed up 45% on Aug. 17 even though a Wedbush analyst had just downgraded the shares.Itâs difficult to prove this, but it sounds like meme stock traders were trying to make a quick buck. Folks who followed them into the abyss were soon punished, though, as FuboTV shares coughed up those ill-gotten mid-August gains by early September.Circling back to the âbold targetsâ quote, it came from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter. He warned that the company needed to raise capital and reduce cash burn or âit will be out of cash within a year.âOvereager traders temporarily bid up FUBO stock despite Pachterâs dire prediction. The analyst also said he wasnât certain how dilutive any capital gain raise would be and worried about how soon they would take to reduce capital burn.FuboTV Wonât Be Cash Flow Positive for a WhilePachterâs comments apparently refer to comments made by FuboTVâs management, which can be reviewed in the companyâs second-quarter 2022shareholder letter. In that letter, the companyâs management stated FuboTVâs intention attain positive cash flow by 2025.In other words, donât expect FuboTV to be cash flow positive for several years, at least. This, along with Pachterâs concern about FuboTV diluting its shares through capital-raising efforts, should be off-putting to prospective FUBO stock investors.Meanwhile, Evercore analyst Shweta Khajuria observed that FuboTVâs management expects to achieve not only positive free cash flow, but also positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, by 2025. Letâs see how the company is doing in 2022, though.FuboTVâs shareholder letter reveals that the companyâs adjusted EBITDA was an already worrisome -$47.4 million in 2021âs second quarter. That financial hole deepened substantially to -$79.1 million in Q2 of 2022.Now, letâs talk about cash flow, since FuboTVâs management seemed so eager to discuss this topic. Actually, we can let the folks at FuboTV speak for themselves:âOperating cash flow in [Q2 2022] was negative $91.3 million, including $7.7 million operating cash outflow associated with the wagering business. This represented a $35.3 sequential reduction in operating cash flow.âFUBO Stock Isnât Worth Gambling OnFuboTVâs management is free to engage in wishful thinking if they want to do so. This shouldnât instill prospective investors with a false sense of hope, however.Sure, FUBO stock might get a boost from meme stock traders sometimes. Consider whether the sharp rallies are based on firm fundamentals, though, and whether theyâre sustainable. All in all, investing in FuboTV now is a pure gamble based on hope and hype rather than hard financial facts.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":346,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9934696459,"gmtCreate":1663232674771,"gmtModify":1676537233234,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's fly FUBO","listText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's fly FUBO","text":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's fly FUBO","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/aefaec95a28f3403d203580152d05387","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9934696459","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":195,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9936721685,"gmtCreate":1662834073547,"gmtModify":1676537147767,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$ lets go FUBO","listText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$ lets go FUBO","text":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$ lets go FUBO","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/758992d0b46b2770bafde5e5c4dc21e5","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9936721685","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":125,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9936721843,"gmtCreate":1662834018583,"gmtModify":1676537147759,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Invitae(NVTA)$let's go NVTA","listText":"$Invitae(NVTA)$let's go NVTA","text":"$Invitae(NVTA)$let's go NVTA","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/cb4b0f352e344a5b1165598b023b9d79","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9936721843","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":227,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9938413430,"gmtCreate":1662647927421,"gmtModify":1676537109721,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's go FUBO","listText":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's go FUBO","text":"$fuboTV Inc.(FUBO)$let's go FUBO","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/56d77af719f94d3af5531c119b95c196","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9938413430","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":15,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9997726539,"gmtCreate":1661860871524,"gmtModify":1676536591971,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$GameStop(GME)$<v-v data-views=\"1\"></v-v>Bullish time to long.. The news came after months of buying by the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B). Buffett said earlier this year that OXY was a bet on âhigher oil prices, and the permian basin being all itâs cracked up to be.â Since making the comments, he has gone on to acquire more than 20% of the company.

Due to his aggressive buying and kind words about OXY, Buffett is thought to be considering a full buyout of the company. OXY currently has a $66 billion market cap, and Berkshire has $101 billion in cash and short-term securities. Itâs entirely possible for Berkshire to acquire 100% of OXY at the current stock price, and Buffett has been known to have been aching for a big acquisition for a long time.

Itâs not clear that he actually will do the deal. Buying more shares will drive the stock price up. If the market cap hits $101 billion, then OXY will be too expensive for Buffett to buy without borrowing. Buffett isnât known for a love of leverage, so if he wants to buy Occidental Petroleum outright, heâll probably make an offer while the price is still modest.

Itâs not a foregone conclusion that Buffett will buy OXY. The deal would leave him with less cash than he likes to have, and may even require large borrowings. Still, we have to ask the question:

Is Occidental Petroleum about to become a merger arbitrage play?

If Buffett makes an offer for OXY, then the only question investors will have to ask is âwill the deal close on these terms?â If it does, and if the offer price is higher than todayâs price, then investors will lock in a substantial profit. In this article, I will explore the potential for a Berkshire-Occidental acquisition and explain why I consider the stock a good value whether such a deal transpires or not.

Signs Buffett Wants to Buy Occidental Petroleum

Warren Buffett has not said that he wants to fully acquire Occidental Petroleum. In fact, a recent Wall Street Journal article explicitly said that hedoes not want to. According to WSJ, Buffett needed the 50% permission in order to avoid regulatory issues. However, it would be unwise to assume that Buffett isnât going to buy OXY. Consider these two points:

Buffett has generally kept pretty quiet about his deals until the last minute. He spent a long time buying up BNSF stock before he finally made an offer to buy the company. By the time he finally made an offer, he already owned 23%.

Logically, nobody would want to announce an offer before making it, because that would give other people time to come up with competing bids.

With those two points in mind, you can see that Buffettâs not making an offer on OXY doesnât prove that heâs not buying it. If he intended to make an offer at some point in the future, he wouldnât say so now â that could trigger a bidding war with another interested party. So, the main signs that Buffett is interested in buying OXY â the long series of buys and the seeking of regulatory permission for more â still stand. Buffett owns 20.2% of OXY and has sought to buy up to 50% - that looks like the behavior of a buyer. It doesnât in itself prove that Buffett is going to make an offer for OXY, but it does show that heâs behaving the way many companies do before mergers.

Itâs not a foregone conclusion that a big buyer will eventually be a full owner. Therefore, we canât consider Occidental Petroleum a merger arbitrage play today. However, there is a non-zero chance that it will become one in the future. So, anybody investing in the stock should consider the possibility of it being bought by Berkshire.

What Would Buffett Pay for OXY?

Were Berkshire to make an offer for OXY, then the offer price would be the main determinant of investorsâ returns. Therefore, it makes sense to think about what Berkshire would pay for OXY.

We know that Buffettâs buys this year have been pretty much constant. The last filing was on August 8, so we donât know if he made any buys at the recent highs (around $75). We do know that he was buying almost weekly up to the August 8 filing. So we can safely put the highs prior to that date ($70) as a floor on what Buffett thinks OXYâs intrinsic value is.

And what about a ceiling?

Thatâs more complicated, and will require some competitive analysis. Buffett is known for his love of moat stocks, so if we can find a durable competitive advantage for OXY, we may get an idea of what Buffett thinks itâs worth.

Occidental Petroleum has a number of competitive advantages, including:

A $40 breakeven WTI Crude price. This compares favorably to $45 for Chevron (CVX) and $41 for Exxon (XOM).

Extensive assets in the Permian Basin, one of the worldâs most productive fields.

Geographic proximity to huge markets like California and Texas, an advantage as it saves on transportation/midstream costs.

No refining operations. Refining operations areless profitable when oil prices are high, because their input costs are higher. This hurts the big oil conglomerates like Exxon, which have extensive refining operations, but helps companies like OXY, which simply sell oil.

This is a mighty list of competitive advantages for OXY. Taking all of this into account, it stands to reason that Buffett thinks Occidental Petroleum is worth more than it is today.

How much exactly does he think itâs worth?

Thatâs impossible to say for sure, but consider this:

OXY stock has $12.12 in free cash flow per share according to Seeking Alpha Quant. Thatâs more than it had in 2011, when the stock peaked at $109.

If you assume 10% FCF growth over 5 years, followed by no growth forever, and discount at 8%, you get a DCF model that values the stock at $187.

So weâve got a range of $109 to $187 using different approaches. It seems like Buffett wouldnât value a stock at the very top of its range of possible valuations, being a value investor. But itâs quite possible that he thinks OXY is worth at least $109. If so, an eventual offer coming in at $100+ is a real possibility.

The Matter of Oil Prices

The big risk to Occidental Petroleum, as with most oil stocks, is oil prices going lower. Yes, OXY has a low breakeven price, but it does need oil to hold certain levels to achieve certain business outcomes. For example:

It needs oil above $40 to breakeven.

It needs oil somewhere above $90 to achieve positive growth from the second quarter levels.

On the surface, it looks like Occidentalâs third quarter earnings will decline sequentially. Oil prices were lower in the third quarter, so earnings should go down, right?

Not so fast. Occidentalâs third quarter revenue is likely to be lower than its second quarter revenue, but earnings are a different matter. You see, OXY has been paying off debt all year long. In the most recent quarter, OXY paid off $4.8 billion worth of debt â 19% of the total! If that $4.8 billion in debt was yielding 4%, then it carried $192 million in annual interest expenses. In the second quarter, interest expense was $114 million, down from $391 million in Q1. $114 million is $456 million on an annual basis. If the $4.8 billion in debt repayment occurred late in the quarter, then we could see the interest expense come down even more. Interest is a cost taken off of net income, so the lower that debt goes, the higher the earnings. This provides OXY with a buffer against the earnings impact of lower oil prices.

Warren Buffett has called Occidental Petroleum a bet on higher oil prices. Evidently, he thinks oil prices will rise or at least stay at todayâs relatively high levels. But with massive debt reduction, there is less of a âneedâ for higher oil prices. So itâs quite possible that OXY is a good value even if oil prices donât budge and Buffett never makes an offer.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line on Occidental Petroleum is that itâs a wildly profitable oil company thatâs improving its balance sheet and making big gains. Whether Buffett buys it or not, itâs a great value.

At todayâs prices, OXY trades at a mere 9 times adjusted earnings, 7 times GAAP earnings, and 4.3 times operating cash flow. Itâs extremely cheap. So investors have much more to like here than just a potential Buffett buyout. With all the debt itâs repaying, OXY doesnât even need rising oil prices to produce medium-term earnings growth. Itâs reducing its interest expenses by hundreds of millions of dollars on an annualized basis â that alone can produce earnings growth. If Buffett does buy OXY, the offer price could potentially be $100 or higher, given the companyâs valuation and the fact that Buffett bought its stock aggressively near todayâs prices. If Buffett buys, thereâs potential to lock in some quick profits and invest them elsewhere. If he doesnât, thereâs potential for long-term gains well exceeding the amount that he would have offered. In any case, Buffett already owns 20.2% of the float, and is known for extremely long holding periods. For this reason, investors can bank on a large percentage of OXYâs shares never being sold, which will put upward pressure on the stock price. On the whole, Iâm very excited about Occidental Petroleum stock.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Occidental Petroleum: The Next Merger Arbitrage Play?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nOccidental Petroleum: The Next Merger Arbitrage Play?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-24 19:07 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryOccidental Petroleum stock has been rising steadily all year.OXY's unusually smooth rise has likely been due to Warren Buffett's consistent buying (along with buying by those betting on his ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"OXY":"è„żæčçłæČč"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4536577-occidental-petroleum-possible-merger-arbitrage-play","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2261462613","content_text":"SummaryOccidental Petroleum stock has been rising steadily all year.OXY's unusually smooth rise has likely been due to Warren Buffett's consistent buying (along with buying by those betting on his eventual takeover).Recently Buffett got permission to buy 50% of OXY.In this article I argue that OXY could become a merger arbitrage play given Buffett's aggressive buying.Paul MorigiRecently, Warren Buffett got permission tobuy 50% of Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) stock. There are a number of reasons for the recovery. Inflation and oil prices are coming down. The job market remains strong. Consumer confidence is rebounding, and corporate earnings were solid in the second quarter.

Among the recent winners in the rebound is Amazon, which is up more than 40% from its bottom in June, helped by a stock split, improving consumer sentiment, a strong second-quarter earnings report, and two surprise acquisitions, One Medical and iRobot.

After falling nearly 50% from its peak last year, investors may be wondering if the FAANG stock can keep up that momentum. The company is also charging an incremental $0.35 for every item it ships for sellers on its marketplace, which is likely to flow straight to the bottom line as sellers have little alternative but to pay it. That also shows that Amazon has pricing power in e-commerce both with its customer base and the millions of sellers who do business on its platform.

While e-commerce gets much of the attention in the media and among customers, its cloud infrastructure business, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been the primary profit driver for years and continues to grow at an impressive pace. In the second quarter, AWS revenue rose 33% to $19.7 billion with a 29% operating margin. Demand for cloud services remains strong and should continue to propel Amazon's profits forward, which makes it the most important number for investors to watch.

A question of when, not if

Considering its expected profit growth from e-commerce and cloud computing, as well as businesses like advertising, Amazon will almost certainly reach $200 a share. However, the key question facing investors is when, and that will depend on how the broad market behaves. If the rebound we saw in recent weeks continues, Amazon could hit $200 before the end of the year. After all, this stock traded as high as $188 last year, so $200 would only represent a slight gain from its previous peak.

If inflation persists, interest rates continue to climb, and consumer sentiment wanes, Amazon stock is likely to remain under pressure. It's a cyclical business and directly exposed to consumer discretionary spending and the health of the overall economy.

Regardless of what happens in the short term though, Amazon should eventually reach $200. The company continues to gain market share in retail, build leverage in its marketplace, grow its cloud business, and innovate with new technologies. It's a good bet to beat the market at the current price.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Amazon Stock: Headed to $200?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAmazon Stock: Headed to $200?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-23 10:50 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The bear market may not be officially over, but it's looking like the bears are going back into hibernation. After its worst first half of a year in more than 50 years, the S&P 500 is up 13% since June...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMZN":"äșé©Źé"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/08/22/amazon-stock-headed-to-200/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2261388549","content_text":"The bear market may not be officially over, but it's looking like the bears are going back into hibernation. After its worst first half of a year in more than 50 years, the S&P 500 is up 13% since June 30, putting up an 18% since it hit bottom on June 17. There are a number of reasons for the recovery. Inflation and oil prices are coming down. The job market remains strong. Consumer confidence is rebounding, and corporate earnings were solid in the second quarter.Among the recent winners in the rebound is Amazon, which is up more than 40% from its bottom in June, helped by a stock split, improving consumer sentiment, a strong second-quarter earnings report, and two surprise acquisitions, One Medical and iRobot. After falling nearly 50% from its peak last year, investors may be wondering if the FAANG stock can keep up that momentum. From its current price, climbing to $200 would imply another 40% gain. The road to $200Amazon's second-quarter earnings report helped make the case for the stock to return to $200 as a number of tailwinds are emerging for it to keep gaining. The S&P 500 hit an all-time intraday high in early January, but closed the first quarter of the year with its biggest quarterly decline in nearly two years. Individual stocks, of course, plunged too. While that's scary, you could build a lot of wealth in the long term if you buy the dip, provided you know where to look. Here are three no-brainer stocks that have tanked in recent months you'd want to buy now and hold.

The growth potential here is unmistakable

Caught in the sell-off of growth stocks, Upstart Holdings stock has lost more than one-third its value this year, and a staggering 66% of its value in the past six months, as of this writing. It's true that Upstart stock ran up too high too fast, but it's also true that the company is growing rapidly and sitting on trillion-dollar opportunities. If you believe in Upstart's growth story, now's the time to buy.

Upstart uses artificial intelligence to analyze more than 1,000 data points per borrower to screen them and assess the risks of lending. So while lenders like banks can use Upstart's services to originate low-risk loans, potential borrowers can get quick loans at low rates. It's a win-win for both sides. Much of the process is automated, and Upstart also doesn't have to bear credit risks as it doesn't lend money but only helps originate loans in return for a fee.

Upstart's numbers for 2021 reveal stunning growth:

Revenue up 264% to $849 million.

Income from operations up 1,097% to $141 million.

Net income up 2,164% to $135 million.

Such high growth rates may not be sustainable, but Upstart won't stop growing given the markets it is targeting. After unsecured personal loans, Upstart has already entered auto loans and tapped top automakers like Volkswagen as initial clients. The growth potential here is unmistakableCaught in the sell-off of growth stocks, Upstart Holdings stock has lost more than one-third its value this year, and a staggering 66% of its value in the past six months, as of this writing. It's true that Upstart stock ran up too high too fast, but it's also true that the company is growing rapidly and sitting on trillion-dollar opportunities. If you believe in Upstart's growth story, now's the time to buy.Upstart uses artificial intelligence to analyze more than 1,000 data points per borrower to screen them and assess the risks of lending. So while lenders like banks can use Upstart's services to originate low-risk loans, potential borrowers can get quick loans at low rates. It's a win-win for both sides. Much of the process is automated, and Upstart also doesn't have to bear credit risks as it doesn't lend money but only helps originate loans in return for a fee.Upstart's numbers for 2021 reveal stunning growth:Revenue up 264% to $849 million.Income from operations up 1,097% to $141 million.Net income up 2,164% to $135 million.Such high growth rates may not be sustainable, but Upstart won't stop growing given the markets it is targeting. After unsecured personal loans, Upstart has already entered auto loans and tapped top automakers like Volkswagen as initial clients. Upstart is aiming for small-dollar and small-business loans next, and expects to enter mortgage lending in 2023.The mortgage market alone is worth at least $4 trillion based on originations, while the auto loan market is worth more than $700 billion. That's massive, and one of the biggest reasons why Upstart stock looks so appealing right now. This megatrend could make early investors a fortuneIf you're ever stuck about where to start when it comes to investing, look out for megatrends, or structural shifts that could change the dynamics of an industry. When the year started, shares initially surged more than 20%. But the stock has now given up all of those gains, with a year-to-date return of negative 1%. This means the stock has significantly underperformed the S&P 500's 18% gain this year.
\n
But one analyst thinks the stock could take off.
\n
\"We still really like this stock.\"
\n
In February,Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Pottermade a bold call, boosting his 12-month price target for thegrowth stockfrom $515 to $1,200. He said Tesla deliveries could increase from 500,000 vehicles in 2020 to nearly 900,000 this year. Of course, this projection was made before global supply shortages worsened. Nevertheless, Tesla is growing extremely rapidly. The company's second-quarter deliveries more than doubled compared to the year-ago quarter, rising to 201,304.
\n
Following Tesla's second-quarter earnings release late last month, the analyst reiterated this target, noting that the company looks poised to benefit from market share gains, the monetization of the company's Autopilot software, and \"underappreciated opportunities\" in Tesla's energy business, which includes revenue from battery energy storage and solar energy generation products.
\n
Further, Potter pointed to Tesla's strong second-quarter operating margin of 11%, which he expects will see incremental improvement from Tesla's recently launched Autopilot subscription.
\n
On Aug. 3, Potter once again reiterated an overweight rating on the stock and a $1,200 price target, saying \"We still really like this stock.\" He pointed to growing demand for battery electric vehicles overall.
\n
So what gives?
\n
If shares could truly rise to $1,200, why do so many investors seem to think the stock is worth so much less (based on the stock's price of just under $700 at the time of this writing). After all, if $1,200 was generally viewed by investors as a likely outcome for Tesla stock within the next 12 months, shares would be trading significantly higher today.
\n
The issue boils down to the stock's forward-looking valuation. With a price-to-earnings ratio of about 370 at the time of this writing, Tesla shares are largely priced for strong growth for years to come. Since the company's valuation is based largely on profits far into the future, slight variances in views for Tesla's future growth trajectory yield dramatically different assumptions about the stock's intrinsic value today.
\n
Investors, therefore, shouldn't be quick to buy Tesla stock just because one analyst has a high price target for shares. Still, Potter does notably have some good points about Tesla's strong business momentum. Even Tesla itself reiterated guidance for vehicle deliveries to grow more than 50% this year -- and that guidance was provided during a time that many companies around the world (including Tesla) are negatively impacted by supply chain shortages. Further, Tesla management noted in its second-quarter update that demand for its vehicles was at an all-time high going into Q3.
\n
While a $1,200 price target for Tesla stock would be difficult to justify, shares may be trading low enough for investors to start a small position in the stock.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Stock: Headed to $1,200?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Stock: Headed to $1,200?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-08 09:13 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Key Points\n\nTesla deliveries more than doubled year over year in Q2.\nRising demand for electric vehicles could benefit Tesla.\nInvestors should exercise caution when it comes to analysts' price targets...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"çčæŻæ"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/07/tesla-stock-headed-to-1200/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1159872041","content_text":"Key Points\n\nTesla deliveries more than doubled year over year in Q2.\nRising demand for electric vehicles could benefit Tesla.\nInvestors should exercise caution when it comes to analysts' price targets.\n\nIt's been a wild year for Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)stock. The company's second-quarter deliveries more than doubled compared to the year-ago quarter, rising to 201,304.\nFollowing Tesla's second-quarter earnings release late last month, the analyst reiterated this target, noting that the company looks poised to benefit from market share gains, the monetization of the company's Autopilot software, and \"underappreciated opportunities\" in Tesla's energy business, which includes revenue from battery energy storage and solar energy generation products.\nFurther, Potter pointed to Tesla's strong second-quarter operating margin of 11%, which he expects will see incremental improvement from Tesla's recently launched Autopilot subscription.\nOn Aug. 3, Potter once again reiterated an overweight rating on the stock and a $1,200 price target, saying \"We still really like this stock.\" He pointed to growing demand for battery electric vehicles overall.\nSo what gives?\nIf shares could truly rise to $1,200, why do so many investors seem to think the stock is worth so much less (based on the stock's price of just under $700 at the time of this writing). After all, if $1,200 was generally viewed by investors as a likely outcome for Tesla stock within the next 12 months, shares would be trading significantly higher today.\nThe issue boils down to the stock's forward-looking valuation. With a price-to-earnings ratio of about 370 at the time of this writing, Tesla shares are largely priced for strong growth for years to come. Since the company's valuation is based largely on profits far into the future, slight variances in views for Tesla's future growth trajectory yield dramatically different assumptions about the stock's intrinsic value today.\nInvestors, therefore, shouldn't be quick to buy Tesla stock just because one analyst has a high price target for shares. Further, Tesla management noted in its second-quarter update that demand for its vehicles was at an all-time high going into Q3.\nWhile a $1,200 price target for Tesla stock would be difficult to justify, shares may be trading low enough for investors to start a small position in the stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":8,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162755943,"gmtCreate":1624077240482,"gmtModify":1703828379247,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What to buy? TheS&P 500slid 1.3% to 4,166.45. Both the Dow and S&P 500 hit their session lows in the final minutes of trading and closed around those levels. TheNasdaq Compositeclosed 0.9% lower at 14,030.38. Economic comeback plays led the market losses.\nFor the week, the 30-stock Dow lost 3.5%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down by 1.9% and 0.2%, respectively, week to date.\nSt. Louis Federal Reserve President Jim Bullardtold CNBC's \"Squawk Box\"on Friday it was natural for the Fed to tilt a little \"hawkish\" this week and that the first rate increase from the central bank would likely come in 2022. His comments came after the Fed on Wednesday added two rate hikes to its 2023 forecast and increased its inflation projection for the year, putting pressure on stock prices.\n\"The fear held by some investors is that if the Fed tightens policy sooner than expected to help cool inflationary pressures, this could weigh on future economic growth,\" Truist Advisory Services chief market strategist Keith Lerner said in a note. To be sure, he added it would be premature to give up on the so-called value trade right now.\nPockets of the market most sensitive to the economic rebound led the sell-off this week. The S&P 500 energy sector and industrials dropped 5.2% and 3.8%, respectively, for the week. Financials and materials meanwhile, lost more than 6% each. These groups had been market leaders this year on the back of the economic reopening.\nThe decline in stocks came as the Fed's actions caused a drastic flattening of the so-called Treasury yield curve. This means the yields of shorter-duration Treasurys â like the 2-year note â rose while longer-duration yields like the benchmark 10-year declined. The retreat in long-dated bond yields reflects less optimism toward economic growth, while the jump in short-end yields shows the expectations of the Fed raising rates.\nThis phenomenon hurt bank stocks particularly as their earnings could take a hit when the spread between short-term and long-term rates narrows. Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase shares on Friday lost more than 2% each. Citigroup fell by 1.8%, posting its 12th straight daily decline.\nFed Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday that officials have discussed tapering bond buying and would at some point begin slowing the asset purchases.\n\"This week's first whiff of an eventual change in Fed policy was a reminder that emergency monetary conditions and the free-money era will ultimately end,\" strategists at MRB Partners wrote in a note. \"We expect a series of incremental retreats from the Fed's benign inflation outlook in the coming months.\"\nCommodity prices were underpressure this weekas China attempted to cool rising prices and as the U.S. dollar strengthens. Copper, gold and platinum fell once again on Friday.\nFriday also coincided with the quarterly \"quadruple witching\" in which options and futures on indexes and equities expire. This event may have contributed to more volatile trading during the session.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":16,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9996242153,"gmtCreate":1661180341777,"gmtModify":1676536468499,"author":{"id":"3587009666575640","authorId":"3587009666575640","name":"ILuvPrata","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bdbc611d628c84e59d5bbedefd0c556","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3587009666575640","authorIdStr":"3587009666575640"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc(APE)$ keep dropping? The Federal Reserve's shift on monetary policy that'll see it get more aggressive with interest rate hikes, coupled with all of the major U.S. indexes pushing into correction territory during the first quarter, has weighed heavily on previously high-flying growth stocks.

But there's also good news. Since every crash or correction in the major U.S. indexes throughout history has eventually been erased by a bull market rally, the recent dip in the broader market is the perfect opportunity to put your money to work. If you were to invest $300,000 into the following beaten-down growth stocks, there's a really good chance they can make you a millionaire by 2030, if not sooner.

Pinterest

The beaten-down growth stock I'm most confident can rally 233% or more over the next eight years for patient investors is social media platform Pinterest ( PINS 0.81% ). Shares of the company have declined 71% from their all-time high.

Pinterest was initially viewed as a key COVID-19 pandemic winner. With people forced to stay home during periods of lockdown, many turned to online sites to engage with others and pass the time. This sent Pinterest's monthly active user (MAU) count way up. But with COVID-19 vaccination rates rising and most of the U.S. getting back to some semblance of normal, MAUs have gone in reverse in each of the past three quarters. Without MAU growth, Pinterest's once high-flying share price has been pummeled.

However, the shellacking shares have taken is a gift for long-term investors for a variety of reasons. To begin with, Pinterest's historic MAU growth is still within historic norms if you span out four or five years. It's to be expected that the company's active user count would decelerate after pandemic lockdowns caused an abnormally large and unsustainable increase in MAUs.

Perhaps more important, declining MAUs in the short term haven't adversely affected Pinterest's ability to monetize its user base. Despite a small year-over-year decline in MAUs in 2021, the company reported a 36% increase in global average revenue per user (ARPU), with ARPU growth of 80% in international markets. These figures clearly show that merchants and advertisers are willing to pay a premium to reach Pinterest's 431 million MAUs.

There's also been some concern about how Apple's iOS privacy changes could adversely affect ad-driven platforms. These changes won't even raise an eyebrow for Pinterest. Whereas most social media platforms rely on likes and other data tracking tools to determine what interests their users, the entire premise of Pinterest is for users to post and share the things, places, and services that interest them. Users are effectively allowing advertisers to specifically target them, which should give Pinterest excellent ad-pricing power.

Pinterest is quite profitable on a recurring basis and expected by Wall Street to more than double its sales by mid-decade. A $300,000 investment turning into $1 million by 2030 would be a conservative estimate, in my view.

Nio

Another beaten-down growth stock that can make investors millionaires by the turn of the decade with an initial investment of $300,000 is electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio ( NIO 4.18% ). Shares of Nio have tumbled 67% since mid-January 2021.

There are three reasons Nio has been taken to the woodshed over the past year or so. First, the auto industry is dealing with serious supply chain issues that are constraining production and/or expansion opportunities. Second, a rising-rate environment places more emphasis on stock valuations, which has clearly weighed on the (for the moment) money-losing Nio. Third, there have been renewed worries about China-based stocks being delisted from the major U.S. exchanges (Nio is headquartered in Shanghai, China).

While all three of these are tangible concerns, they're short-term in nature and highly unlikely to disrupt Nio's long-term growth strategy. With virtually all major economies looking to reduce their carbon footprint, EVs are something of a no-brainer/sustainable growth opportunity.

What's been really impressive about Nio is the company's production ramp-up in the wake of supply chain challenges. In less than two years, it's gone from delivering fewer than 4,000 EVs in a quarter to more than 25,000. Management believes the company may have a chance to hit 50,000 EV deliveries per month before the year is over.

Innovation will also be a key driver for Nio. The company recently introduced its first two sedans, the ET7 and ET5. Buyers who upgrade to the top battery option can get up to 621 miles of range. The ET7 and ET5 are direct competitors to Tesla's Model S and Model 3, but Nio's EVs offer superior range.

Don't overlook the company's battery-as-a-service (BaaS) program, either. The BaaS program, which was introduced in August 2020, reduces the initial purchase price of a Nio EV and allows buyers to charge, swap, and upgrade their batteries in the future. Meanwhile, Nio generates a monthly fee from BaaS members and keeps early buyers loyal to the brand.

By 2024, Wall Street is forecasting a per-share profit of $2.50 for Nio. Based on its current share price of $22 and lightning-fast growth rate, it looks like a screaming bargain.

Teladoc Health

A third beaten-down growth stock that can turn $300,000 into $1 million by 2030 for patient investors is telemedicine giant Teladoc Health ( TDOC 2.27% ). Shares of Teladoc have fallen by more than 75% since hitting an all-time high in February 2021.

In somewhat similar fashion to Pinterest, Teladoc Health was initially lauded as a pandemic winner and subsequently pummeled. The reason? Investors have been betting on a substantial growth slowdown in Teladoc with the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic seemingly in the rearview mirror.

To build on this point, hindsight has shown that Teladoc's acquisition of leading applied health signals company Livongo in the fourth quarter of 2020 was pricey. Costs associated with this acquisition have ballooned near-term net losses at a time when investors are becoming more critical of company valuations. But neither these higher near-term costs nor concerns about a post-pandemic slowdown should faze long-term investors.

Although Teladoc is often praised for its pandemic-related growth, it's important to recognize that this company was growing like wildfire well before COVID-19 spread globally. Between 2013 and 2019, Teladoc averaged... averaged... 74% annual sales growth. This tells investors that Teladoc's virtual visit platform wasn't just in the right place at the right time during the pandemic. Rather, it's the right product/service for a shifting treatment landscape in the U.S.

Telehealth looks to be a win up and down the treatment landscape. While not all appointments can be virtual, those that can are often more convenient for patients. Virtual visit platforms also allow physicians to keep better tabs on their chronically ill patients. The end result should be improved patient outcomes and less money out of the pockets of health insurers. You can bet that any product or service that costs health insurers less will be promoted heavily by insurance companies.

Investors shouldn't be concerned about higher costs associated with the Livongo acquisition, either. Most of these acquisition-based costs are now in the past, which will allow investors to focus on the positives, such as cross-selling opportunities between Teladoc's and Livongo's platforms. The Federal Reserve's shift on monetary policy that'll see it get more aggressive with interest rate hikes, coupled with all of the major U.S. indexes pushing into correction territory during the first quarter, has weighed heavily on previously high-flying growth stocks.But there's also good news. Since every crash or correction in the major U.S. indexes throughout history has eventually been erased by a bull market rally, the recent dip in the broader market is the perfect opportunity to put your money to work. If you were to invest $300,000 into the following beaten-down growth stocks, there's a really good chance they can make you a millionaire by 2030, if not sooner.PinterestThe beaten-down growth stock I'm most confident can rally 233% or more over the next eight years for patient investors is social media platform Pinterest ( PINS 0.81% ). Shares of the company have declined 71% from their all-time high.Pinterest was initially viewed as a key COVID-19 pandemic winner. With people forced to stay home during periods of lockdown, many turned to online sites to engage with others and pass the time. This sent Pinterest's monthly active user (MAU) count way up. But with COVID-19 vaccination rates rising and most of the U.S. getting back to some semblance of normal, MAUs have gone in reverse in each of the past three quarters. Without MAU growth, Pinterest's once high-flying share price has been pummeled.However, the shellacking shares have taken is a gift for long-term investors for a variety of reasons. To begin with, Pinterest's historic MAU growth is still within historic norms if you span out four or five years. It's to be expected that the company's active user count would decelerate after pandemic lockdowns caused an abnormally large and unsustainable increase in MAUs.Perhaps more important, declining MAUs in the short term haven't adversely affected Pinterest's ability to monetize its user base. Despite a small year-over-year decline in MAUs in 2021, the company reported a 36% increase in global average revenue per user (ARPU), with ARPU growth of 80% in international markets. These figures clearly show that merchants and advertisers are willing to pay a premium to reach Pinterest's 431 million MAUs.There's also been some concern about how Apple's iOS privacy changes could adversely affect ad-driven platforms. These changes won't even raise an eyebrow for Pinterest. Whereas most social media platforms rely on likes and other data tracking tools to determine what interests their users, the entire premise of Pinterest is for users to post and share the things, places, and services that interest them. Users are effectively allowing advertisers to specifically target them, which should give Pinterest excellent ad-pricing power.Pinterest is quite profitable on a recurring basis and expected by Wall Street to more than double its sales by mid-decade. A $300,000 investment turning into $1 million by 2030 would be a conservative estimate, in my view.NioAnother beaten-down growth stock that can make investors millionaires by the turn of the decade with an initial investment of $300,000 is electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio ( NIO 4.18% ). Shares of Nio have tumbled 67% since mid-January 2021.There are three reasons Nio has been taken to the woodshed over the past year or so. First, the auto industry is dealing with serious supply chain issues that are constraining production and/or expansion opportunities. Second, a rising-rate environment places more emphasis on stock valuations, which has clearly weighed on the (for the moment) money-losing Nio. Third, there have been renewed worries about China-based stocks being delisted from the major U.S. exchanges (Nio is headquartered in Shanghai, China).While all three of these are tangible concerns, they're short-term in nature and highly unlikely to disrupt Nio's long-term growth strategy. With virtually all major economies looking to reduce their carbon footprint, EVs are something of a no-brainer/sustainable growth opportunity.What's been really impressive about Nio is the company's production ramp-up in the wake of supply chain challenges. In less than two years, it's gone from delivering fewer than 4,000 EVs in a quarter to more than 25,000. Management believes the company may have a chance to hit 50,000 EV deliveries per month before the year is over.Innovation will also be a key driver for Nio. The company recently introduced its first two sedans, the ET7 and ET5. Buyers who upgrade to the top battery option can get up to 621 miles of range. The ET7 and ET5 are direct competitors to Tesla's Model S and Model 3, but Nio's EVs offer superior range.Don't overlook the company's battery-as-a-service (BaaS) program, either. The BaaS program, which was introduced in August 2020, reduces the initial purchase price of a Nio EV and allows buyers to charge, swap, and upgrade their batteries in the future. Meanwhile, Nio generates a monthly fee from BaaS members and keeps early buyers loyal to the brand.By 2024, Wall Street is forecasting a per-share profit of $2.50 for Nio. Based on its current share price of $22 and lightning-fast growth rate, it looks like a screaming bargain.Teladoc HealthA third beaten-down growth stock that can turn $300,000 into $1 million by 2030 for patient investors is telemedicine giant Teladoc Health ( TDOC 2.27% ). Shares of Teladoc have fallen by more than 75% since hitting an all-time high in February 2021.In somewhat similar fashion to Pinterest, Teladoc Health was initially lauded as a pandemic winner and subsequently pummeled. The reason? Investors have been betting on a substantial growth slowdown in Teladoc with the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic seemingly in the rearview mirror.To build on this point, hindsight has shown that Teladoc's acquisition of leading applied health signals company Livongo in the fourth quarter of 2020 was pricey. Costs associated with this acquisition have ballooned near-term net losses at a time when investors are becoming more critical of company valuations. But neither these higher near-term costs nor concerns about a post-pandemic slowdown should faze long-term investors.Although Teladoc is often praised for its pandemic-related growth, it's important to recognize that this company was growing like wildfire well before COVID-19 spread globally. Between 2013 and 2019, Teladoc averaged... averaged... 74% annual sales growth. This tells investors that Teladoc's virtual visit platform wasn't just in the right place at the right time during the pandemic. Rather, it's the right product/service for a shifting treatment landscape in the U.S.Telehealth looks to be a win up and down the treatment landscape. While not all appointments can be virtual, those that can are often more convenient for patients. Virtual visit platforms also allow physicians to keep better tabs on their chronically ill patients. The end result should be improved patient outcomes and less money out of the pockets of health insurers. You can bet that any product or service that costs health insurers less will be promoted heavily by insurance companies.Investors shouldn't be concerned about higher costs associated with the Livongo acquisition, either. Most of these acquisition-based costs are now in the past, which will allow investors to focus on the positives, such as cross-selling opportunities between Teladoc's and Livongo's platforms. Teladoc's net loss in 2022 should shrink considerably from 2020 and 2021.As a Teladoc shareholder, my expectation is for the company to push to recurring profitability by as soon as 2024. All the while, sustained sales growth should top 20%. That's a recipe for investors to generate a 233% return, if not greater, by 2030.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":10,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
