Despite their recent slides, many analysts remain incredibly upbeat on the following three FAANG stocks, even as recession risks surge.FAANG stocks have been unable to steer clear of the market hailstorm that’s hit the tech sector. Though high-flying hyper-growth stocks have dragged stocks lower in the first half, the fallen FAANG stocks still appear like great long-term holds, even as rates and recession risks rise by the month. Many may be quick to conclude that FAANG is dead. And although the acronym may be in need of an update following the epic blow-up of Meta and Netflix in the first half, I’d argue that the broader basket needs more time to demonstrate its resilience. As America’s top tech titans brace themselves for an economic slowdown, investors and analysts have been quick to temper expectations. Given their tremendous resilience, I’d argue it’s likely that it’s the FAANG stocks that could provide leadership as markets look to rebound. In this piece, we usedTipRanks’ Comparison tool to have a closer look at two Strong Buy-rated FAANG stocks.Alphabet (GOOGL)Alphabet is a wonderful tech company that you can never count out. The company caused a bit of a stir when it reported a mild earnings miss in its first quarter, with $24.62 per-share earnings, missing the $25.89 estimate. In a market that doesn’t even reward earnings beats, you can bet that earnings misses will be met with tremendous selling pressure. Though Alphabet’s rare quarterly flop may be viewed as the beginning of a disturbing trend, I’d argue that things weren’t nearly as ugly as they seemed under the hood. The search and cloud businesses were remarkably strong. Internet video behemoth YouTube acted as a major drag for the quarter, thanks in part to significant competition for user engagement and the reopening of the economy. Indeed, many shut-in consumers have been going out, rather than spending hours on custom-tailored videos served up by the YouTube algorithm.Though lockdown tailwinds are unlikely to return, even as new COVID variants do, I view YouTube as a powerful platform that could recover ahead of an economic slowdown.YouTube isn’t just a magnificent entertainment platform. It’s one that could be a lot more recession-resilient than skeptics think. As the economy slows down, consumers won’t be in a hurry to spend considerable sums anymore. Many may ditch their paid subscriptions, and start going out less to curb their monthly spending. As they do, people could spend more time engaging with YouTube’s free, ad-based platform.Though YouTube subscriptions could decline, I view the ad business as one that could take off as free entertainment tiers get a chance to shine. There’s nothing wrong with YouTube. Softness in the first quarter seems like more of a road bump than the beginning of an insidious trend. As YouTube bounces back, while search and cloud continue powering higher, GOOG stock makes for an exciting dip-buy. At writing, the stock trades at 5.3 times sales and 19.8 times trailing earnings.Wall Street is upbeat, with the average Alphabet price target of $3,090.23, implying a 36% upside.Apple (AAPL)Apple is another high-quality FAANG stock that investors don’t seem to be giving the benefit of the doubt. Despite clocking in a solid Q1 earnings beat, the cautious guide startled investors. There are supply-side constraints that not even Apple can navigate through without enduring a bit of pain.Still, as Apple moves past such issues in the second half, there are reasons to believe that demand could stay strong, as wealthier consumers continue to spend on the latest and greatest Apple devices and services. It’s encouraging that Apple fans tend to have a bit more disposable income than more cost-conscious Android users.Apple’s strong brand may help it dampen downside in a recession. However, it’s an innovation that could help Apple shrug off a coming 2023 economic slide. The much-anticipated mixed-reality headset is rumored to launch in early 2023.As you may remember, Apple unveiled the first iPhone in the face of the Great Financial Crisis. Looking back, the market crash of 2008 is just a small blip. Could Apple’s big headset launch induce upside such that the 2022 plunge will be dwarfed in a few years’ time? I’d argue it’s likely.Wall Street is staying bullish, with the average Apple price target of $186.09, implying a 34% upside.ConclusionFAANG stocks still seem like great buys, even though they’ve faded alongside the broader market. At this juncture, analysts expect most from Alphabet over the year ahead. Personally, I find it hard to pick just one of the two Strong Buy-rated FAANG stars.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":47,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9085085166,"gmtCreate":1650619051054,"gmtModify":1676534764824,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$YANGZIJIANG SHIPBLDG HLDGS LTD(BS6.SI)$:(","listText":"$YANGZIJIANG SHIPBLDG HLDGS LTD(BS6.SI)$:(","text":"$YANGZIJIANG SHIPBLDG HLDGS LTD(BS6.SI)$:(","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b92aee5d07414b212684c485a78993bf","width":"1242","height":"2448"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9085085166","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":395,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9926460967,"gmtCreate":1671609038559,"gmtModify":1676538563395,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What the ","listText":"What the ","text":"What the","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9926460967","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":4,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9070943535,"gmtCreate":1657001247427,"gmtModify":1676535930491,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh dear ","listText":"Oh dear ","text":"Oh dear","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9070943535","repostId":"2249327393","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2249327393","pubTimestamp":1656999190,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2249327393?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-07-05 13:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Pauses Plants After Ending Shaky Quarter With a Production Milestone","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2249327393","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Tesla Inc. investors have a lot to parse after the July 4 holiday: a disappointing quarter of delive","content":"

Tesla Inc. investors have a lot to parse after the July 4 holiday: a disappointing quarter of deliveries, a record month of production, and now several weeks of downtime at multiple plants.

The electric-car maker will halt most production on its Model Y assembly line in Shanghai for the first two weeks of July, then stop the Model 3 line for a 20-day stretch starting July 18, Bloomberg reported last month. Upgrade work at the factory to boost output of both vehicles is expected to be completed by early August, people familiar with the matter said.

On Monday, TeslaMag said the carmaker’s plant near Berlin will take a two-week break starting July 11. The German site reported that Tesla aims to roughly double its production rate from August, citing an unidentified source. The company built 1,000 Model Ys at the factory during at least one week last month.

Tesla didn’t mention these plans in its July 2 production and deliveries statement. The carmaker offered an upbeat line -- it made more vehicles in June than any month in its history -- while disclosing 254,695 deliveries for the quarter, short of analysts’ estimates.

The “relative weakness” of the quarter was expected, Philippe Houchois, a Jefferies analyst with a buy rating on Tesla shares, said in a July 3 note. He wrote that Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk’s comments referring to the company’s new plants as “money furnaces” suggest Tesla’s free cash flow may have been affected by significant working capital disruptions.

The biggest blow to Tesla’s performance last quarter came from Shanghai’s weeks-long lockdown in response to a Covid outbreak. Upgrade work at the factory to boost output of both vehicles is expected to be completed by early August, people familiar with the matter said.On Monday, TeslaMag said the carmaker’s plant near Berlin will take a two-week break starting July 11. The German site reported that Tesla aims to roughly double its production rate from August, citing an unidentified source. The company built 1,000 Model Ys at the factory during at least one week last month.Tesla didn’t mention these plans in its July 2 production and deliveries statement. The company went to extraordinary lengths to reopen its factory there and keep it running, with thousands of workers sleeping on site to maintain partial production.Whereas Shanghai is Tesla’s most productive plant, its factories near Berlin and Austin, Texas, are only just getting going. Time decay is in favor of the option seller.

What's the expected return and possible outcomes?

Return: The premium collected ($238) for setting aside $10,000 represents a return of 2.38% for about a month. That's a respectable return for the duration given the current market conditions. Sure, the bear market bounce may continue and the stock may outperform the returns from this option chain but downside starts only at $97.62 for this put seller ($100 strike price minus $2.38) vs. the downside starting right away at the market price for the stock buyer.

Outcome #1: If Alibaba stays above $100 by the expiration date, we retain just the premium above. We will not be obligated to buy the shares.

Outcome #2: If Alibaba goes below $100 by the expiration date, we will be forced to buy 100 shares at $100, irrespective of where the stock trades at that time. Keeping the premium netted in mind, the average cost in this case will be $97.62 ($100 minus $2.38).

Outcome #3: As an option seller, one can "buy to close" anytime instead of waiting till the expiration date. For example, let's say a week after selling this put, Alibaba's stock moves up to $130 from the current price of $117. In this case, the put seller may "buy to close" the chain to lock in profits and roll the funds onto another chain (or another stock). That may be appealing to those who have the time and patience to play short-dated options many times over. But we typically let the option expire before choosing another chain (or another stock).

Also note that if you start having second thoughts and don't want to own the stock if assigned, you may "buy to close" at a loss too, saving your $10,000 in process but perhaps losing few more dollars than the premium you received. In short, you may choose to close the chain any time before the expiration date.

Why we wouldn't mind owning Alibaba at $100

At $100, Alibaba will be trading at a forward multiple of 13.50. Sure, earnings may be revised down or the company may miss estimates. Let's water down the projected EPS by 20% from $7.37 to $5.89. Using $5.89 EPS, buying Alibaba at $100 would represent a multiple just shy of 17. As a comparison, despite the near 20% fall year-to-date, S&P 500 is trading at current multiple of about 20. Alibaba has a rich and favorable history when it comes to beating estimates as the company has beaten estimates all but three times in the last 4 years.

BABA EPS Surprise (SeekingAlpha.Com)

Our portfolio consists of US based stocks almost exclusively. Sure, many operate internationally but almost all are US stocks at the end of the day. We could use some diversification and the market we've studied the most after US is China, due to past experience of owning stocks like Baidu (BIDU) and Sohu.com (SOHU). Please note that owning Alibaba or any other Chinese stock for that matter is fraught with risks including but not limited to delisting fears and trustworthiness of their accounting. That said, almost all the negatives appear to be priced in. But for the bear market rally going on, Alibaba would likely still be trading in double digits.

Stocks are in a bear market bounce as of this writing and we believe this bounce has more room. The $100 strike price is almost a good 20% away from current price and the stock will likely be above $100 with a probability of 77% as shown below. Our intent is the premium in this case, as described below.

BABA Chain (Think or Swim)

Key learnings from previous articles

"When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, Sir?" is a popular quote attributed to English Economist John Maynard Keynes. A good investor learns from mistakes made by self and keeps an open mind for feedback from others. This section highlights three key topics from reader comments in the previous articles.

What is your intent, lower price or premium?

Some readers rightly pointed out that too often, the put seller forgets the true intent behind the exercise. Is it to own the shares at a lower price or is it collecting premium as a source of income? Neither is wrong. For us, the intent is generate additional income using the cash in our portfolio. We carefully pick stocks we wouldn't mind owning at our strike price but quite often, we move onto the next stock should the previous trade close without getting assigned. For example, the cash that we used to secure the premium on Amazon (AMZN) is now free to be used elsewhere. We are not looking at Amazon right now but at Alibaba instead. However, if your intent is to strictly own Amazon at a lower price, consider selling puts on that same name till you get assigned. If you say, "I'd rather buy the stock if am chasing anything in particular", then the next section is for you.

Stock or Option?

Buy the stock if you like it right here right now. This is not a recommendation to buy Alibaba here per se. But to clarify the obvious, if ownership of shares in the long run is the ultimate goal and you believe the price is right, go for it. But please do understand the downsides of this approach and the cushion Options provide.

One reader argued that selling the $5 puts on Palantir was risky as stocks may plunge through the strike price. Sure, sometimes they do. But sometimes they don't. Let's say Palantir plunged to $3 and the put seller gets assigned at $5 in our previous example. After accounting for the premium of 21 cents a share, the put seller is looking at a paper loss of $1.79 per share or $1,790 in total. This is calculated as follows:

Strike Price: $5

Market Price when assigned: $3

Premium collected when selling the put: 21 cents

Total shares purchased at expiration: 1,000

Paper Loss is calculated as: 1,000 * ($3-$5+$0.21) = 1000 * (-$1.79) = -$1,790

Now, had the same put seller, who is supposed to be a believer in the stock, bought 1,000 shares at $8, the paper loss would be $5,000 in the event the stock falls through to $3 as argued above.

Climate vs Weather

We wrote in some of our previous articles that selling covered calls works better in down-trending market and selling puts works better in up-trending market. We still stand by this statement. However, an addendum is due.

In down-trending markets like the present, sell covered calls on days the stock in question is up. This nets higher premium as the stock is closer to your strike price.

In up-trending markets, sell puts on days the stock in question is down. This nets higher premium as the stock is closer to your strike price.

To understand this nuance, think of the often misused terms: "Weather" and "Climate". Climate is long term. Weather is short term. Down or Up trending market is long term. Down or up days in a market trend is short term.

Conclusion

Using Options exclusively may not be for everyone but once you understand your intent, risks, and options (pun intended), basic Options strategies can be used profitably around a core portfolio. Get your goals straight (intent), pick a stock you wouldn't mind owning, execute, learn, and repeat. Good luck.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Own Alibaba At $100
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nOwn Alibaba At $100\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-06-28 12:03 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryAs stated before, no strategy is devoid of risks.Truly understanding your intent is key.Be prepared for wild swings with Alibaba, irrespective of owning the stock or options.maybefalse/iStock ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BABA":"阿里巴巴","09988":"阿里巴巴-W"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4520501-own-alibaba-stock-at-100-options-strategy-sell-puts","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"2246818713","content_text":"SummaryAs stated before, no strategy is devoid of risks.Truly understanding your intent is key.Be prepared for wild swings with Alibaba, irrespective of owning the stock or options.maybefalse/iStock Unreleased via Getty ImagesSeeking Alpha's readers are an interesting and perhaps unique mix. But for the bear market rally going on, Alibaba would likely still be trading in double digits.Stocks are in a bear market bounce as of this writing and we believe this bounce has more room. The $100 strike price is almost a good 20% away from current price and the stock will likely be above $100 with a probability of 77% as shown below. Our intent is the premium in this case, as described below.BABA Chain (Think or Swim)Key learnings from previous articles\"When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, Sir?\" is a popular quote attributed to English Economist John Maynard Keynes. If you say, \"I'd rather buy the stock if am chasing anything in particular\", then the next section is for you.Stock or Option?Buy the stock if you like it right here right now. This is calculated as follows:Strike Price: $5Market Price when assigned: $3Premium collected when selling the put: 21 centsTotal shares purchased at expiration: 1,000Paper Loss is calculated as: 1,000 * ($3-$5+$0.21) = 1000 * (-$1.79) = -$1,790Now, had the same put seller, who is supposed to be a believer in the stock, bought 1,000 shares at $8, the paper loss would be $5,000 in the event the stock falls through to $3 as argued above.Climate vs WeatherWe wrote in some of our previous articles that selling covered calls works better in down-trending market and selling puts works better in up-trending market. We still stand by this statement. However, an addendum is due.In down-trending markets like the present, sell covered calls on days the stock in question is up. This nets higher premium as the stock is closer to your strike price. In up-trending markets, sell puts on days the stock in question is down. This nets higher premium as the stock is closer to your strike price. To understand this nuance, think of the often misused terms: \"Weather\" and \"Climate\". Climate is long term. Weather is short term. Down or Up trending market is long term. Down or up days in a market trend is short term.ConclusionUsing Options exclusively may not be for everyone but once you understand your intent, risks, and options (pun intended), basic Options strategies can be used profitably around a core portfolio. Get your goals straight (intent), pick a stock you wouldn't mind owning, execute, learn, and repeat. Good luck.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":8,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9956589309,"gmtCreate":1674054959001,"gmtModify":1676538920955,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Inthink life wil be easier with no wants","listText":"Inthink life wil be easier with no wants","text":"Inthink life wil be easier with no wants","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9956589309","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":396,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9958804720,"gmtCreate":1673673108061,"gmtModify":1676538873837,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I think this rocks what do you think","listText":"I think this rocks what do you think","text":"I think this rocks what do you think","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9958804720","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":29,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9959518929,"gmtCreate":1673020214161,"gmtModify":1676538770938,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Valid post","listText":"Valid post","text":"Valid post","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9959518929","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":227,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9927734713,"gmtCreate":1672588287633,"gmtModify":1676538708050,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Valid post","listText":"Valid post","text":"Valid post","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9927734713","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9066949956,"gmtCreate":1651844028375,"gmtModify":1676534982152,"author":{"id":"4087967453749230","authorId":"4087967453749230","name":"Tigertraders","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4181acfd075639c4037ab285ddc75802","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087967453749230","authorIdStr":"4087967453749230"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$GoPro(GPRO)$how come so many people havefree GoPro share?
