Still, the stock hasn’t responded the way bulls were hoping.</p>\n<p>All of this comes as the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq continue to grind outnew all-time highs.</p>\n<p>It also comes as FAANG stocks continue to trade incredibly well. Alphabet&nbsp;(<b>GOOGL</b>) -Get Reportis the top performerwith a near-40% gain in the first half of the year, while Netflix&nbsp;(<b>NFLX</b>) -Get Report&nbsp;is the worst, with a 2.3% drop.</p>\n<p>Alibaba has a similar first-half performance, down 2.6%. However, it’s doing far worse from the highs, down more than 30%.</p>\n<p>Can it turn around its woes in the second half and start rallying higher?</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9975f383919ff8cfc34fca49a32d8e8f\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"494\"></p>\n<p>Call me a hopeless optimist, but I feel that Alibaba can have a solid second-half performance.</p>\n<p>The overall market has done too well and so has large-cap tech. The fundamentals of the business are intact and growth is strong. It’s like Amazon&nbsp;(<b>AMZN</b>) -Get Report.Eventually, it will perform better&nbsp;- it’s a question of “when” and not “if.”</p>\n<p>Shares continue to hold the $210 to $212 area and have recently cleared downtrend resistance (blue line). That said, there’s plenty of overhead hurdles.</p>\n<p>Specifically, Alibaba stock is struggling with the 21-week moving average, as well as the 21-month and 10-month moving averages.</p>\n<p>Let’s be clear: There are not a lot of bullish technical components here. If Alibaba stock could hold the 10-week moving average on this week’s dip, I’d feel better about it.</p>\n<p>However, as long as it can hold up over the $210 level and really, the 200-week moving average, I feel okay about Alibaba going into the next six months.</p>\n<p>A push over $235 - thus putting it over all of the moving average hurdles mentioned above - could open up a run to $250, then $263. Can that change in the second half of 2021?\n\nAlibaba (BABA) -Get Report has been a total dog so far this year. Shares were trading well into the fourth quarter of 2020 but then a string of issues pummeled the stock.\nRegulators disrupted Ant's initial public offering, then dug deeper on Alibaba and dialed up the heat.\nInvestors don’t like regulatory issues as it is but particularly when we’re dealing with Chinese regulators.\nHowever, in April, Alibaba paid a smaller-than-expectedbut still record fine, hoping to puts its regulatory issues behind it. Still, the stock hasn’t responded the way bulls were hoping.\nAll of this comes as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq continue to grind outnew all-time highs.\nIt also comes as FAANG stocks continue to trade incredibly well. Alphabet (GOOGL) -Get Reportis the top performerwith a near-40% gain in the first half of the year, while Netflix (NFLX) -Get Report is the worst, with a 2.3% drop.\nAlibaba has a similar first-half performance, down 2.6%. However, it’s doing far worse from the highs, down more than 30%.\nCan it turn around its woes in the second half and start rallying higher?\n\nCall me a hopeless optimist, but I feel that Alibaba can have a solid second-half performance.\nThe overall market has done too well and so has large-cap tech. The fundamentals of the business are intact and growth is strong. It’s like Amazon (AMZN) -Get Report.Eventually, it will perform better - it’s a question of “when” and not “if.”\nShares continue to hold the $210 to $212 area and have recently cleared downtrend resistance (blue line). That said, there’s plenty of overhead hurdles.\nSpecifically, Alibaba stock is struggling with the 21-week moving average, as well as the 21-month and 10-month moving averages.\nLet’s be clear: There are not a lot of bullish technical components here. If Alibaba stock could hold the 10-week moving average on this week’s dip, I’d feel better about it.\nHowever, as long as it can hold up over the $210 level and really, the 200-week moving average, I feel okay about Alibaba going into the next six months.\nA push over $235 - thus putting it over all of the moving average hurdles mentioned above - could open up a run to $250, then $263. I think the attention being paid to Reddit and meme stocks is a bunch of hokum.</p>\n<p>The arguments abound whether the meme stock frenzy is&nbsp;a permanent part of the investing landscape.</p>\n<p>“This is not going to end well,” Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner told<i>CNBC</i>in early June while discussing the AMC rally. “I think historically we’ve seen this in the past, but I do believethis grouphas staying power.”</p>\n<p>However, if you’re a value investor, the mere presence of this kind of retail investor is music to your ears. While the sheep are out buying&nbsp;<b>GameStop</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GME</u></b>), you can pick up shares in some of America’s better companies that trade at a discount.</p>\n<p>That’s not easy when the&nbsp;Cyclically Adjusted PE Ratio&nbsp;(CAPE) of 38.11 is at the second-highest level on record — the highest was in December 1999 — with no end in sight to the multiple’s upward trajectory.</p>\n<p>With that in mind, I’ve rated the&nbsp;top 10 Reddit stocks— based on the number of comments made on r/WallStreetBets — from best to worst as a long-term buy:</p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>Tesla</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TSLA</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>KB Home</b>(NYSE:<b><u>KBH</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Palantir Technologies</b>(NYSE:<b><u>PLTR</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Clean Energy Fuels</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CLNE</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>BlackBerry</b>(NYSE:<b><u>BB</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Workhorse Group</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>WKHS</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>AMC Entertainment</b>(NYSE:<b><u>AMC</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>ContextLogic</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>WISH</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Globalstar</b>(NYSEAMERICAN:<b><u>GSAT</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Clover Health</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CLOV</u></b>)</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Tesla (TSLA)</b></p>\n<p>Say what you will about Elon Musk, but there’s no question he’s built one heck of a company. Soon, Tesla will have a fourth factory open in Berlin. Even though the original opening date of July 1 is no longer on the table due to myriad reasons, it will ultimately produce millions of electric vehicles (EVs) for willing European buyers.</p>\n<p>The company has added a&nbsp;battery cell production&nbsp;component to the plant outside Berlin. It will produce 500 million cells annually representing 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, 25% higher than&nbsp;<b>Volkswagen’s</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>VWAGY</u></b>) planned facility a couple hundred miles away.</p>\n<p>Across the pond in Texas, the company’s fifth so-called Gigafactory is getting closer to being ready for production. This plant will produce an updated version of the Model Y using “mega casting” technology to speed up the production process while delivering a lighter vehicle at the same time. It currently&nbsp;uses this technology&nbsp;at its plant in Shanghai.</p>\n<p>Tesla has afree cash flow (FCF) marginof 22.3% based on $35.94 billion in trailing-12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>KB Home (KBH)</b></p>\n<p>The largest homebuilders in America are having&nbsp;trouble keeping up with demand&nbsp;at the moment. At least for now, KB Home is meeting the demand from customers, 64% of which were first-time buyers in the latest quarter.</p>\n<p>“Operationally, our divisions are doing an&nbsp;excellent job&nbsp;of navigating this environment of demand strength and well-publicized supply chain constraints as we effectively balanced pace, price and starts to optimize our assets and manage our production,” said KB Home CEO Jeff Mezger in the Q2 2021 conference call.</p>\n<p>KB Home is so busy that the number of homes started in Q1 2021 and Q2 2021 was equivalent to 75% of the number of homes started for 2020. As a result, it expects to deliver $6 billion in housing revenue in 2021 at the midpoint of guidance, with operating margins between 11.5% and 12.0%.</p>\n<p>KB Home has anFCF margin of 6.5%based on $4.78 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Palantir Technologies (PLTR)</b></p>\n<p>Palantir has been a public company for less than a year. The provider of data analytics software platforms for government agencies, corporations, and other large institutions, sold no shares last September when directly listedon the NYSE.</p>\n<p>The reference price was $7.25. PLTR stock is up 277.7% through the start of June 29.</p>\n<p>Not only is it growing its business — in the latest quarter, itsU.S. commercial revenuegrew 72% year-over-year while its U.S. government revenue jumped 83% YOY — it is also busy investing in other tech companies looking to go public.</p>\n<p>For example, it has invested in six private investments in public equity (PIPE) in the past three months. These PIPEs are part of the ongoing interest in special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Palantir invests&nbsp;in the PIPEs&nbsp;to gain financial returns and collaborate with these companies, which use its data analytic tools for their businesses.</p>\n<p>I’m not 100% sold on Palantir&nbsp;just yet, but it’s a good long-term buy compared to some of the Reddit stocks on this list.</p>\n<p>Palantir has anFCF margin of 9%based on $1.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Clean Energy Fuels</b><b>(</b><b>CLNE)</b></p>\n<p>Back in February,I recommended CLNE. At the time, it was trading around $12.97. It was one of seven stocks to buy under $20. As I write this, it’s just under $11, so it’s lost ground over the past four months.</p>\n<p>I liked Clean Energy for several reasons.</p>\n<p>First, it provides three kinds of natural gas fuel for commercial trucks: compressed (CNG), liquified (LNG), and renewable (RNG). It’s the only fuel provider to do so. Secondly, RNG fuel enables trucking companies to deliver their services while getting close to or achieving carbon negative status. Third, it’s got fueling stations in 43 states and Canada. Lastly, it’s got deep pockets.<b>Total</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>TTFNF</u></b>) owns 25% of its stock.</p>\n<p>Oh, and as I said in February, from an adjusted EBITDA basis (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), it makes money while also growing revenues at a steady pace.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, Clean Energy has anFCF margin of 24.2%based on $283 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>BlackBerry (BB)</b></p>\n<p>I can remember when&nbsp;President Barack Obama&nbsp;first entered the White House in January 2009. The BlackBerry was considered the cat’s meow when it came to mobile phones. By the time he left office in January 2017, it was in the dustbin of history.</p>\n<p>Now supplying security software to automobile manufacturers and other enterprises and governments worldwide — a research firm recently said its QNX software is installed in195 million vehicles&nbsp;worldwide — the Reddit crowd have taken to the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company.</p>\n<p>Things have turned around for BlackBerry.</p>\n<p>At least, enough so to provide CEO John Chen with a handsome compensation package. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis recently blasted the company, suggesting its&nbsp;compensation plan&nbsp;had no relation to its overall corporate performance.</p>\n<p>As a result of the January Reddit rally, which saw BB stock move from $6.70 at the beginning of the month to a 52-week high of $28.77 by the end, Chen could receive as much as $206 million in cash and stock compensation from the long-term incentives issued in 2019.</p>\n<p>On a GAAP basis,BlackBerry still loses money. That said, the pivot it’s made to software has given it another shot at tech stardom. We’ll see if it gain regain its former glory from the Obama years.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, BlackBerry has anFCF margin of 9.3%based on $861 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Workhorse Group (WKHS)</b></p>\n<p>The last time I wrote about Workhorse Group was in late April. At the time, it was trading around $12.50. I argued that if it got the&nbsp;backlog of 8,000&nbsp;commercial electric vehicle delivery trucks out the door over the next 12 to 24 months, it would have an ultra-low price-to-sales ratio of 4.2.</p>\n<p>Long story short, if it did, its stock would be worth more than $12.50.</p>\n<p>Well, on June 16, Workhorse&nbsp;officially protested&nbsp;the United States Postal Service awarding the estimated $6 billion contract to manufacture its next-generation delivery vehicle to&nbsp;<b>Oshkosh</b>(NYSE:<b><u>OSK</u></b>). The news pushed WKHS to $17.54 at the start of June 29.</p>\n<p><i>InvestorPlace’s</i>&nbsp;Dana Blankenhorn recently discussed Workhorse. He believes that the company was in the commercial EV game to&nbsp;ride on the coattails&nbsp;of big guns like&nbsp;<b>Ford</b>(NYSE:<b><u>F</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>General Motors</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GM</u></b>). That’s not the craziest theory in the world.</p>\n<p>In the latest quarter, Workhorse delivered six trucks to customers and generated $521,000 in revenue. It plans to produce&nbsp;1,000 trucks&nbsp;in 2021. It will have to pick up the pace if it wants to reach that goal. In the meantime, investors can expect its quarterly losses to accelerate as we make our way through the year.</p>\n<p>Workhorse has an&nbsp;FCF margin of -5,320.2%&nbsp;based on $1.83 million in trailing 12-month revenue. It is for speculative investors only.</p>\n<p><b>AMC Entertainment (AMC)</b></p>\n<p>AMC is a stock that I’m conflicted about.</p>\n<p>On the one hand, I believe that Americans will return to movie theaters in large numbers come fall. That will likely return the chain to pre-Covid revenue numbers. On the other hand, it has a burdensome debt load.</p>\n<p>Despite using the Reddit surge to raise much-needed cash to repay some of this debt — on June 3, it announced it would sell 11.55 million shares at the market to bring in another&nbsp;$600 million— it still has&nbsp;$11.05 billion&nbsp;owed, or 37.6% of its vastly overvalued market capitalization of $29.4 billion.</p>\n<p>Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner appeared on&nbsp;<i>CNBC</i>&nbsp;in early June. While he&nbsp;commended AMC management&nbsp;for selling shares when prices were high, the company is not worth $28 billion.</p>\n<p>“Absent some serious strategic undertakings by that company, it’s still just not worth what it’s trading for right now,” Roessner stated.</p>\n<p>I couldn’t agree more.</p>\n<p>AMC has anFCF margin of -280%based on $449 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>ContextLogic (WISH)</b></p>\n<p>In February, I wrote an article about the e-commerce site with the headline“ContextLogic Has Nothing to Do With Retail”<i>.</i>I didn’t understand the composition of its board. It had no retail experience on its board to oversee the CEO.</p>\n<p>“If ContextLogic’s goal is to beat&nbsp;<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b>AMZN</b>) at discount e-commerce apparel, its board of directors is a sure sign that’s not what it’s after,” I said.</p>\n<p>I finished the article by stating I didn’t get an inspirational vibe from Context Logic’s board of directors. In the four months since, WISH has lost 49% of its value and trades well below its&nbsp;IPO price&nbsp;of $24.</p>\n<p>ContextLogic has anFCF margin of -8%based on $2.87 billion in trailing 12-month revenue. I’m really not sure what Redditors see in this one.</p>\n<p><b>Globalstar (GSAT)</b></p>\n<p>Not everyone thinks the provider of mobile satellite services is a bad bet.</p>\n<p>B. Riley analyst Mike Crawford initiated coverage of Globalstar on June 21. The analyst gives it a “buy” rating and a&nbsp;$3.25 target price, double where it’s currently trading. He estimates that the company’s C-Band spectrum could be worth as much as $15 billion. Based on 1.79 billion shares outstanding, that’s $8.38 a share, considerably higher than the analyst’s target price.</p>\n<p>From where I sit, the fact that it’s currently trading at&nbsp;a price-to-sales ratio of 25.39&nbsp;and&nbsp;not making money&nbsp;on a GAAP basis makes it very hard for me to get behind the company.</p>\n<p>However, Globalstar does have one big ace up its sleeve.</p>\n<p>On page 87 of its&nbsp;2020 10-K, you will see that it had $1.8 billion in U.S. net operating loss (NOL) carryforwards with less than 1% expiring before 2025. It has an additional $200 million in foreign NOL carryforwards. So, should it start generating significant profits — that’s still very much up in the air — the loss carryforwards will shield the company’s earnings from taxes for the foreseeable future.</p>\n<p>Globalstar has anFCF margin of 18%based on $123 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Clover Health (CLOV)</b></p>\n<p>They say timing is everything.</p>\n<p>In early June, I wrote an article about the healthcare technology company, which uses data to provide healthcare plans for more than 130,000 Americans. At the time, I felt like there was a fair bit of&nbsp;upside resistance at $10.</p>\n<p>While I wouldn’t buy the money-losing stock, a patient investor with a higher than average risk tolerance would be wise to buy around $9, or hopefully less. And then came the June 8 Reddit-induced short squeeze, doubling CLOV’s share price within hours.</p>\n<p>“By afternoon trading [June 8], Clover had already traded over&nbsp;650 million shares, 30 times more than its 30-day average volume of 22 million shares, according to FactSet,”<i>CNBC</i>‘s Yun Lireported. “By the closing bell on Wall Street, more than 720 million shares had changed hands.”</p>\n<p>CLOV stock closed June 7 trading at $11.92. By 4 p.m. the next day, it was over $22.</p>\n<p>In my article, I mentioned the investing lesson a 17-year-old learned about managing your expectations when playing with real money. I really hope he was able to sell his call options in the June surge. I think the attention being paid to Reddit and meme stocks is a bunch of hokum.\nThe arguments abound whether the meme stock frenzy is a permanent part of the investing landscape.\n“This is not going to end well,” Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner toldCNBCin early June while discussing the AMC rally. “I think historically we’ve seen this in the past, but I do believethis grouphas staying power.”\nHowever, if you’re a value investor, the mere presence of this kind of retail investor is music to your ears. While the sheep are out buying GameStop(NYSE:GME), you can pick up shares in some of America’s better companies that trade at a discount.\nThat’s not easy when the Cyclically Adjusted PE Ratio (CAPE) of 38.11 is at the second-highest level on record — the highest was in December 1999 — with no end in sight to the multiple’s upward trajectory.\nWith that in mind, I’ve rated the top 10 Reddit stocks— based on the number of comments made on r/WallStreetBets — from best to worst as a long-term buy:\n\nTesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)\nKB Home(NYSE:KBH)\nPalantir Technologies(NYSE:PLTR)\nClean Energy Fuels(NASDAQ:CLNE)\nBlackBerry(NYSE:BB)\nWorkhorse Group(NASDAQ:WKHS)\nAMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)\nContextLogic(NASDAQ:WISH)\nGlobalstar(NYSEAMERICAN:GSAT)\nClover Health(NASDAQ:CLOV)\n\nTesla (TSLA)\nSay what you will about Elon Musk, but there’s no question he’s built one heck of a company. Soon, Tesla will have a fourth factory open in Berlin. Even though the original opening date of July 1 is no longer on the table due to myriad reasons, it will ultimately produce millions of electric vehicles (EVs) for willing European buyers.\nThe company has added a battery cell production component to the plant outside Berlin. It will produce 500 million cells annually representing 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, 25% higher than Volkswagen’s(OTCMKTS:VWAGY) planned facility a couple hundred miles away.\nAcross the pond in Texas, the company’s fifth so-called Gigafactory is getting closer to being ready for production. This plant will produce an updated version of the Model Y using “mega casting” technology to speed up the production process while delivering a lighter vehicle at the same time. It currently uses this technology at its plant in Shanghai.\nTesla has afree cash flow (FCF) marginof 22.3% based on $35.94 billion in trailing-12-month revenue.\nKB Home (KBH)\nThe largest homebuilders in America are having trouble keeping up with demand at the moment. At least for now, KB Home is meeting the demand from customers, 64% of which were first-time buyers in the latest quarter.\n“Operationally, our divisions are doing an excellent job of navigating this environment of demand strength and well-publicized supply chain constraints as we effectively balanced pace, price and starts to optimize our assets and manage our production,” said KB Home CEO Jeff Mezger in the Q2 2021 conference call.\nKB Home is so busy that the number of homes started in Q1 2021 and Q2 2021 was equivalent to 75% of the number of homes started for 2020. As a result, it expects to deliver $6 billion in housing revenue in 2021 at the midpoint of guidance, with operating margins between 11.5% and 12.0%.\nKB Home has anFCF margin of 6.5%based on $4.78 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.\nPalantir Technologies (PLTR)\nPalantir has been a public company for less than a year. The provider of data analytics software platforms for government agencies, corporations, and other large institutions, sold no shares last September when directly listedon the NYSE.\nThe reference price was $7.25. PLTR stock is up 277.7% through the start of June 29.\nNot only is it growing its business — in the latest quarter, itsU.S. commercial revenuegrew 72% year-over-year while its U.S. government revenue jumped 83% YOY — it is also busy investing in other tech companies looking to go public.\nFor example, it has invested in six private investments in public equity (PIPE) in the past three months. These PIPEs are part of the ongoing interest in special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Palantir invests in the PIPEs to gain financial returns and collaborate with these companies, which use its data analytic tools for their businesses.\nI’m not 100% sold on Palantir just yet, but it’s a good long-term buy compared to some of the Reddit stocks on this list.\nPalantir has anFCF margin of 9%based on $1.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.\nClean Energy Fuels(CLNE)\nBack in February,I recommended CLNE. At the time, it was trading around $12.97. It was one of seven stocks to buy under $20. As I write this, it’s just under $11, so it’s lost ground over the past four months.\nI liked Clean Energy for several reasons.\nFirst, it provides three kinds of natural gas fuel for commercial trucks: compressed (CNG), liquified (LNG), and renewable (RNG). It’s the only fuel provider to do so. Secondly, RNG fuel enables trucking companies to deliver their services while getting close to or achieving carbon negative status. Third, it’s got fueling stations in 43 states and Canada. Lastly, it’s got deep pockets.Total(OTCMKTS:TTFNF) owns 25% of its stock.\nOh, and as I said in February, from an adjusted EBITDA basis (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), it makes money while also growing revenues at a steady pace.\nIn the meantime, Clean Energy has anFCF margin of 24.2%based on $283 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nBlackBerry (BB)\nI can remember when President Barack Obama first entered the White House in January 2009. The BlackBerry was considered the cat’s meow when it came to mobile phones. By the time he left office in January 2017, it was in the dustbin of history.\nNow supplying security software to automobile manufacturers and other enterprises and governments worldwide — a research firm recently said its QNX software is installed in195 million vehicles worldwide — the Reddit crowd have taken to the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company.\nThings have turned around for BlackBerry.\nAt least, enough so to provide CEO John Chen with a handsome compensation package. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis recently blasted the company, suggesting its compensation plan had no relation to its overall corporate performance.\nAs a result of the January Reddit rally, which saw BB stock move from $6.70 at the beginning of the month to a 52-week high of $28.77 by the end, Chen could receive as much as $206 million in cash and stock compensation from the long-term incentives issued in 2019.\nOn a GAAP basis,BlackBerry still loses money. That said, the pivot it’s made to software has given it another shot at tech stardom. We’ll see if it gain regain its former glory from the Obama years.\nIn the meantime, BlackBerry has anFCF margin of 9.3%based on $861 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nWorkhorse Group (WKHS)\nThe last time I wrote about Workhorse Group was in late April. At the time, it was trading around $12.50. I argued that if it got the backlog of 8,000 commercial electric vehicle delivery trucks out the door over the next 12 to 24 months, it would have an ultra-low price-to-sales ratio of 4.2.\nLong story short, if it did, its stock would be worth more than $12.50.\nWell, on June 16, Workhorse officially protested the United States Postal Service awarding the estimated $6 billion contract to manufacture its next-generation delivery vehicle to Oshkosh(NYSE:OSK). The news pushed WKHS to $17.54 at the start of June 29.\nInvestorPlace’s Dana Blankenhorn recently discussed Workhorse. He believes that the company was in the commercial EV game to ride on the coattails of big guns like Ford(NYSE:F) and General Motors(NYSE:GM). That’s not the craziest theory in the world.\nIn the latest quarter, Workhorse delivered six trucks to customers and generated $521,000 in revenue. It plans to produce 1,000 trucks in 2021. It will have to pick up the pace if it wants to reach that goal. In the meantime, investors can expect its quarterly losses to accelerate as we make our way through the year.\nWorkhorse has an FCF margin of -5,320.2% based on $1.83 million in trailing 12-month revenue. It is for speculative investors only.\nAMC Entertainment (AMC)\nAMC is a stock that I’m conflicted about.\nOn the one hand, I believe that Americans will return to movie theaters in large numbers come fall. That will likely return the chain to pre-Covid revenue numbers. On the other hand, it has a burdensome debt load.\nDespite using the Reddit surge to raise much-needed cash to repay some of this debt — on June 3, it announced it would sell 11.55 million shares at the market to bring in another $600 million— it still has $11.05 billion owed, or 37.6% of its vastly overvalued market capitalization of $29.4 billion.\nFormer E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner appeared on CNBC in early June. While he commended AMC management for selling shares when prices were high, the company is not worth $28 billion.\n“Absent some serious strategic undertakings by that company, it’s still just not worth what it’s trading for right now,” Roessner stated.\nI couldn’t agree more.\nAMC has anFCF margin of -280%based on $449 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nContextLogic (WISH)\nIn February, I wrote an article about the e-commerce site with the headline“ContextLogic Has Nothing to Do With Retail”.I didn’t understand the composition of its board. It had no retail experience on its board to oversee the CEO.\n“If ContextLogic’s goal is to beat Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) at discount e-commerce apparel, its board of directors is a sure sign that’s not what it’s after,” I said.\nI finished the article by stating I didn’t get an inspirational vibe from Context Logic’s board of directors. In the four months since, WISH has lost 49% of its value and trades well below its IPO price of $24.\nContextLogic has anFCF margin of -8%based on $2.87 billion in trailing 12-month revenue. I’m really not sure what Redditors see in this one.\nGlobalstar (GSAT)\nNot everyone thinks the provider of mobile satellite services is a bad bet.\nB. Riley analyst Mike Crawford initiated coverage of Globalstar on June 21. The analyst gives it a “buy” rating and a $3.25 target price, double where it’s currently trading. He estimates that the company’s C-Band spectrum could be worth as much as $15 billion. Based on 1.79 billion shares outstanding, that’s $8.38 a share, considerably higher than the analyst’s target price.\nFrom where I sit, the fact that it’s currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 25.39 and not making money on a GAAP basis makes it very hard for me to get behind the company.\nHowever, Globalstar does have one big ace up its sleeve.\nOn page 87 of its 2020 10-K, you will see that it had $1.8 billion in U.S. net operating loss (NOL) carryforwards with less than 1% expiring before 2025. It has an additional $200 million in foreign NOL carryforwards. So, should it start generating significant profits — that’s still very much up in the air — the loss carryforwards will shield the company’s earnings from taxes for the foreseeable future.\nGlobalstar has anFCF margin of 18%based on $123 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nClover Health (CLOV)\nThey say timing is everything.\nIn early June, I wrote an article about the healthcare technology company, which uses data to provide healthcare plans for more than 130,000 Americans. At the time, I felt like there was a fair bit of upside resistance at $10.\nWhile I wouldn’t buy the money-losing stock, a patient investor with a higher than average risk tolerance would be wise to buy around $9, or hopefully less. And then came the June 8 Reddit-induced short squeeze, doubling CLOV’s share price within hours.\n“By afternoon trading [June 8], Clover had already traded over 650 million shares, 30 times more than its 30-day average volume of 22 million shares, according to FactSet,”CNBC‘s Yun Lireported. “By the closing bell on Wall Street, more than 720 million shares had changed hands.”\nCLOV stock closed June 7 trading at $11.92. By 4 p.m. the next day, it was over $22.\nIn my article, I mentioned the investing lesson a 17-year-old learned about managing your expectations when playing with real money. I really hope he was able to sell his call options in the June surge. The fundamentals of the business are intact and growth is strong. It’s like Amazon&nbsp;(<b>AMZN</b>) -Get Report.Eventually, it will perform better&nbsp;- it’s a question of “when” and not “if.”</p>\n<p>Shares continue to hold the $210 to $212 area and have recently cleared downtrend resistance (blue line). That said, there’s plenty of overhead hurdles.</p>\n<p>Specifically, Alibaba stock is struggling with the 21-week moving average, as well as the 21-month and 10-month moving averages.</p>\n<p>Let’s be clear: There are not a lot of bullish technical components here. If Alibaba stock could hold the 10-week moving average on this week’s dip, I’d feel better about it.</p>\n<p>However, as long as it can hold up over the $210 level and really, the 200-week moving average, I feel okay about Alibaba going into the next six months.</p>\n<p>A push over $235 - thus putting it over all of the moving average hurdles mentioned above - could open up a run to $250, then $263. However, the firm stumbled with its 10-nanometer process, and recently announced its 7-nm process will be delayed until 2023.</p>\n<p>This left the door open to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), and that firm has taken full advantage of the opportunity. AMD has taken a large share of the CPU market and is making inroads into the once nearly impenetrable server market.</p>\n<p>AMD now has seven consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth under its belt, and it appears the firm is gaining momentum: management now guides for 60% revenue growth for the full year, up from the 50% forecast provided in the previous quarter.</p>\n<p>However, AMD also competes with NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA), and the latter company’s GPU technology is stealing market share. NVDA has also been successful in gaining access to adjacent markets with its GPUs, especially AI and automotive markets.</p>\n<p><b>The Ins And Outs of Intel</b></p>\n<p>An understanding of Intel also provides insights into AMD. This is due to the overlap between the two companies, particularly in regards to x86 chips. Intel developed the x86 chip in 1978. To satisfy demands by IBM that Intel would not be the sole supplier of the chips, INTC provided x86 instruction set architecture licensing to AMD.</p>\n<p>Consequently, Intel and AMD have a duopoly position in the PC and server markets, as nearly all computer software is written for x86 architecture. The result is that both have a wide moat related to the x86 ecosystem.</p>\n<p>Gaming consoles in particular are based on x86 architecture due to those platforms generally providing more powerful CPUs and GPUs with multiple compute cores. Like PCs, consoles operate with games that use x86 based software. Once again, this stifles potential competition from ARM-based devices.</p>\n<p>Until fairly recently, AMD was a distant second to INTC as a supplier of x86 chips. However, AMD teamed with Taiwan Semiconductor(NYSE:TSM)to use that manufacturer’s 7nm process to surpass INTC in process technology. Combined with AMD’s developing new innovative chip designs, this one-two punch resulted in INTC losing significant market share.</p>\n<p>At the end of Q1, AMD held 19.30% of the x86 desktop&nbsp;market, a 70 basis point gain year-over-year. In Q2 AMD corralled 8% of the server market, up from a 5%&nbsp;market&nbsp;share in Q4 of 2019.</p>\n<p>Despite these setbacks, it seems premature to view Intel as a moribund business. INTC is one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. The firm dominates the server market, and still holds 60% of the global x86 CPU&nbsp;market.</p>\n<p>The company has an enormous R&amp;D budget, and it is expanding into new markets, primarily Artificial Intelligence, Field-Programmable Gate Array chips, and automotive offerings, through its acquisitions of Habana Labs, Altera, Movidius, and Mobileye.</p>\n<p>Investors should not be swayed by the claim that Intel’s new 10nm chips are inferior to 7nm solely on the basis that 7 is superior to 10. While once used to denote the technology level of a chip design, it has been misused to the point of being useless.</p>\n<p>However, there are a number of concerns that must be acknowledged. Intel lags competitors in the smartphone market. As consumers shift to mobile devices, this could result in a sustained headwind as smartphones take the place of PCs. On the other hand, it should be acknowledged that INTC’s server processor business has seen growth associated with the surge in mobile devices and cloud computing.</p>\n<p>Intel also faces increased competition from AMD in the data center space, as well as customers developing their own ARM-based chips for CPUs.</p>\n<p><b>An Overview of AMD</b></p>\n<p>In years past, INTC held the lion’s share of the x86 market. This was due in part to Intel’s leading-edge manufacturing combined with AMD’s wafer supply agreements with less than stellar GlobalFoundries.</p>\n<p>However, a seismic shift occurred due to three factors: driven by innovative designs, AMD brought competitive products to market, AMD shifted to TSMC for production, and Intel faced repeated manufacturing delays. AMD’s chips are designed for PCs, game consoles, servers, and blockchain applications. And like INTC, AMD’s offerings are largely protected from competition due to the preponderance of software for PCs and servers being designed for x86 architecture.</p>\n<p>AMD’s strong growth has largely come at the expense of Intel as AMD has steadily chipped away at the former company’s CPU market share.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e7f8fbcab5da8a24d01d2b6408bd5686\" tg-width=\"576\" tg-height=\"336\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source:Seeking Alpha</span></p>\n<p>AMD’s focus on CPU and GPU semi-custom processor applications has resulted in their use in Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation game consoles.</p>\n<p>In regards to PC integrated GPUs, AMD is roughly in parity with NVIDIA while INTC dominates with roughly 68% of the market.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/67a0fe74d986cf882623a8f39587d0d8\" tg-width=\"544\" tg-height=\"394\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source:tom'sHARDWARE</span></p>\n<p>However, NVIDIA dominates the discrete GPU space with an 80% plus market share with AMD sweeping up what is left. NVIDIA’s discrete GPUs are arguably superior to AMD’s (more on that later); therefore, investors should not look for growth here.</p>\n<p>Although AMD’s EPYC server CPU products were competitive with that of rivals, initially the company relied on aggressive pricing to promote its first generation of EPYC offerings. However, the EPYC line has gained wider acceptance, and with the Milan processors, the company is gaining market share. As server CPUs provide a better profit margin than the company’s other products, expansion into that space should aid in driving revenue.</p>\n<p>Late last year,AMD entered intoa deal&nbsp;to acquire&nbsp;Xilinx (XLNX), a leader in field programmable gate array (FPGA) chips. FPGAs can be used for a wide variety of applications. Because shifting to a competing FPGA provider requires retraining of engineers in software and design tools, customers are loath to make a switch to a competing vendor. Consequently, if the Xilinx deal goes through, AMD will have acquired a wide moat business. Management guides for operational efficiencies of approximately $300 million within 18 months of closing the transaction.</p>\n<p>The Xilinx acquisition should bolster AMD’s data center and artificial intelligence businesses.</p>\n<p>AMD agreed to acquire Xilinx for $35 billion in an all-stock transaction.</p>\n<p><b>A Survey of NVIDIA</b></p>\n<p>NVDA's focus on the graphics processing units market has led the company to a dominant position in the discrete GPU space. The firm is the leader in discrete GPUs for computing platforms, especially gaming consoles. The fact that Intel licensed intellectual property from NVIDIA to integrate GPUs into its PC chipset testifies to the lead the company maintains.</p>\n<p>The chart below provides a record of the burgeoning ASP the company has been able to command over the last half decade, beginning with the Pascal architecture in 2016, and progressing through Turing to Ampere.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/04fb1d71f9df02f6c63907fe784b2fd8\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"720\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source:AMD Investor Presentation</span></p>\n<p>The firm’s chips are also found in many high-end PCs, and NVDA has particular strength in the incipient AI and self-driving vehicle markets.</p>\n<p>GPUs are being teamed with CPUs to&nbsp;enhance&nbsp;computation workloads. This stratagem is designed to bolster the ability of AI systems to perform computationally intensive tasks. AI related to&nbsp;autonomous&nbsp;vehicles is a developing strength for NVIDIA. Another arena in which the firm is making its mark is in cloud</p>\n<p>AI and data centers pose the most likely avenue of growth for NVDA. To strengthen its position in both businesses, the company moved last year to acquire ARM Holdings (ARMHF) from parent company Softbank for $40 billion.</p>\n<p>ARM is the globe’s largest licensor of chip designs. Its chips are ubiquitous and can be found in mobile phones, smart TVs, and tablet computers. 160 billion chips have been made using ARM designs.</p>\n<p>Perhaps of equal importance is that 13 million developers work with ARM devices. To place that in context, NVDA has 2 million developers working on its array of devices.</p>\n<p>Unfortunately for investors, bothChinaand theU.K.are reportedly balking at approving the deal.</p>\n<p><b>Head-To-Head Comparisons</b></p>\n<p><b>Valuation Metrics</b></p>\n<p>The following chart provides a variety of metrics related to each stock's valuation. As there can be fairly wide variations in PEG ratios due to analysts’ inputs, I prefer that readers have access to multiple sources when I find wide variance in the ratio.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/884fc2142d97afcc9e2308e50058dd45\" tg-width=\"576\" tg-height=\"336\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Chart by author</span></p>\n<p>Note that Seeking Alpha provides a three to five-year PEG, Schwab simply lists its metric as a PEG ratio, while Yahoo! Finance calculates a five-year ratio. This could explain some of the variance in the numbers provided.</p>\n<p>Perusing the first chart, it is obvious that NVDA is the most overvalued. It is also interesting to note that in the current P/E and the forward price/cash flow estimates show AMD as valued near the sector median.</p>\n<p>Count me as an investor that places great emphasis on a stocks PEG Ratio. Viewing the second chart, AMD has the best PEG of the three companies. I also note that analysts from each source calculated AMD’s PEG ratio as better than the sector median.</p>\n<p>Do not misinterpret my findings. While INTC has a lower valuation in many respects, when considering other factors, I rate AMD higher overall. In other words, it is not the cheapest valuation but the best valuation, for lack of a better means to articulate my view.</p>\n<p><b>=Advantage AMD</b></p>\n<p><b>Analysts’ Price Targets</b></p>\n<p>NVIDIA shares currently trade for $202.95. The average 12-month price target of 33 analysts is $186.49. The average price target of the 17 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $210.53, about 3.7% above the current price of the stock.</p>\n<p>AMD shares currently trade for $107.58. The average 12-month price target of 28 analysts is $108.56. The average price target of the 11 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $117.27, roughly 9% above the prevailing share price.</p>\n<p>Intel shares currently trade for $54.05. The average 12-month price target of 34 analysts is $59.86. The average price target of the 16 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $58.97, a 9% premium over the current share price.</p>\n<p>Investors should be aware that it has been nearly three months since NVDA posted quarterly earnings while INTC and AMD reported recently.</p>\n<p><b>=Tie AMD/INTC</b></p>\n<p><b>Growth Rates</b></p>\n<p>The next chart provides data for growth rates. Unless otherwise noted, the metrics reflect analysts' average two-year forecasts.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8ae1b79b3731a985fc209e626ca4886\" tg-width=\"577\" tg-height=\"337\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source:Seeking Alpha Premium/ Chart by author</span></p>\n<p>While investors familiar with these three companies would expect INTC to perform poorly in relation to NVDA and AMD in regarding growth, in several cases Intel is projected to experience negative growth rates.</p>\n<p>Advanced Micro Devices projected growth leads that of NVIDIA in every category, and at times by very wide margins.</p>\n<p><b>=Advantage AMD</b></p>\n<p>I considered providing a chart outlining the profitability of each company; however, suffice it to say that each is highly profitable, and that a juxtaposition of the three would result in a tie.</p>\n<p>I often provide a comparison that breaks down dividend metrics, but AMD does not pay a dividend, and NVDA has an anemic yield. INTC currently yields about 2.6%. The dividend is well funded.</p>\n<p><b>Debt Metrics</b></p>\n<p>NVIDIA had $12.67 billion in cash and $5.96 billion at the end of the last quarter. Should the ARM acquisition meet approval, the deal is structured so that $21 billion of the $40 billion purchase price will be in stock.</p>\n<p>AMD has restructured its debt resulting in reduced interest costs. AMD had about $3.8 billion in cash and $313 million in long-term debt at the end of the most recent quarter.</p>\n<p>Intel's has solid investment-grade credit ratings. The company held nearly $24.86 billion cash at the end of the last quarter and had $31.7 billion long-term debt.</p>\n<p>All three firms have strong financial positions. Weighing the possibility that NVDA and AMD may add debt due to prospective acquisitions, I am rating the three firms as equals.</p>\n<p><b>R&amp;D Budgets</b></p>\n<p>This is the first time I have&nbsp;compared&nbsp;the R&amp;D budgets of companies for a head-to-head showdown. However, in the semiconductor industry, that can be of pivotal importance.</p>\n<p>Last fiscal year, Intel devoted over $13.5 billion to R&amp;D, NVDA spent nearly $2.83 billion, and AMD budgeted a bit over $1.9 billion on research and development.</p>\n<p>AMD is at a clear disadvantage, and that weakness is magnified because it often competes against INTC and NVDA in different arenas. It should be noted that a portion of Intel’s R&amp;D is funneled to its foundry business. Nevertheless, it is the clear winner here, and AMD is the obvious loser.</p>\n<p>I should add that NVDA is chipping away at AMD’s share of the discrete GPU market, and I believe that trend will continue, in part due to the disparity in R&amp;D budgets.</p>\n<p><b>=Advantage INTC</b></p>\n<p><b>Bottom Line: Which Is The Best Chip Stock?</b></p>\n<p>To arrive at an answer, much depends on whether NVIDIA can complete its acquisition of ARM.</p>\n<p>Because ARM processors are more power and cost-efficient than x86 chips, NVDA could gain market share in the data center space. Since around a third of Intel’s revenue flows from data centers, that could represent a headwind for INTC and a positive for NVDA. However, there is a good chance the deal will fail to close.</p>\n<p>The degree of success Intel finds as its&nbsp;planned&nbsp;foundries come online is another factor that should be weighed.</p>\n<p>A development to be weighed is that AMD has now reached parity with INTC in the PC market in terms of the quality of its products. Furthermore, AMD is gaining market share in the server market, and I expect that trend to continue.</p>\n<p>On the other hand, AMD is losing share in the discrete GPU market to NVDA. NVDA has a technological lead in that space which will probably continue.</p>\n<p>While AMD and NVDA are seen as growth machines, one should not ignore that Intel’s Internet of Things business increased by 47% in the last quarter. Mobileye also saw a surge in growth with revenue increasing 124%. Although these businesses only totaled $1.3 billion in revenue, a fraction of Intel's total revenue of $18.5 billion, they still represent areas of high growth.</p>\n<p>However, note the header refers to “chip stock.” Consequently, technological advantages are but one part of the puzzle. However, the firm stumbled with its 10-nanometer process, and recently announced its 7-nm process will be delayed until 2023.\nThis left the door open to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), and that firm has taken full advantage of the opportunity. AMD has taken a large share of the CPU market and is making inroads into the once nearly impenetrable server market.\nAMD now has seven consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth under its belt, and it appears the firm is gaining momentum: management now guides for 60% revenue growth for the full year, up from the 50% forecast provided in the previous quarter.\nHowever, AMD also competes with NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA), and the latter company’s GPU technology is stealing market share. NVDA has also been successful in gaining access to adjacent markets with its GPUs, especially AI and automotive markets.\nThe Ins And Outs of Intel\nAn understanding of Intel also provides insights into AMD. This is due to the overlap between the two companies, particularly in regards to x86 chips. Intel developed the x86 chip in 1978. To satisfy demands by IBM that Intel would not be the sole supplier of the chips, INTC provided x86 instruction set architecture licensing to AMD.\nConsequently, Intel and AMD have a duopoly position in the PC and server markets, as nearly all computer software is written for x86 architecture. The result is that both have a wide moat related to the x86 ecosystem.\nGaming consoles in particular are based on x86 architecture due to those platforms generally providing more powerful CPUs and GPUs with multiple compute cores. Like PCs, consoles operate with games that use x86 based software. Once again, this stifles potential competition from ARM-based devices.\nUntil fairly recently, AMD was a distant second to INTC as a supplier of x86 chips. However, AMD teamed with Taiwan Semiconductor(NYSE:TSM)to use that manufacturer’s 7nm process to surpass INTC in process technology. Combined with AMD’s developing new innovative chip designs, this one-two punch resulted in INTC losing significant market share.\nAt the end of Q1, AMD held 19.30% of the x86 desktop market, a 70 basis point gain year-over-year. In Q2 AMD corralled 8% of the server market, up from a 5% market share in Q4 of 2019.\nDespite these setbacks, it seems premature to view Intel as a moribund business. INTC is one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. The firm dominates the server market, and still holds 60% of the global x86 CPU market.\nThe company has an enormous R&D budget, and it is expanding into new markets, primarily Artificial Intelligence, Field-Programmable Gate Array chips, and automotive offerings, through its acquisitions of Habana Labs, Altera, Movidius, and Mobileye.\nInvestors should not be swayed by the claim that Intel’s new 10nm chips are inferior to 7nm solely on the basis that 7 is superior to 10. While once used to denote the technology level of a chip design, it has been misused to the point of being useless.\nHowever, there are a number of concerns that must be acknowledged. Intel lags competitors in the smartphone market. As consumers shift to mobile devices, this could result in a sustained headwind as smartphones take the place of PCs. On the other hand, it should be acknowledged that INTC’s server processor business has seen growth associated with the surge in mobile devices and cloud computing.\nIntel also faces increased competition from AMD in the data center space, as well as customers developing their own ARM-based chips for CPUs.\nAn Overview of AMD\nIn years past, INTC held the lion’s share of the x86 market. This was due in part to Intel’s leading-edge manufacturing combined with AMD’s wafer supply agreements with less than stellar GlobalFoundries.\nHowever, a seismic shift occurred due to three factors: driven by innovative designs, AMD brought competitive products to market, AMD shifted to TSMC for production, and Intel faced repeated manufacturing delays. AMD’s chips are designed for PCs, game consoles, servers, and blockchain applications. And like INTC, AMD’s offerings are largely protected from competition due to the preponderance of software for PCs and servers being designed for x86 architecture.\nAMD’s strong growth has largely come at the expense of Intel as AMD has steadily chipped away at the former company’s CPU market share.\nSource:Seeking Alpha\nAMD’s focus on CPU and GPU semi-custom processor applications has resulted in their use in Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation game consoles.\nIn regards to PC integrated GPUs, AMD is roughly in parity with NVIDIA while INTC dominates with roughly 68% of the market.\nSource:tom'sHARDWARE\nHowever, NVIDIA dominates the discrete GPU space with an 80% plus market share with AMD sweeping up what is left. NVIDIA’s discrete GPUs are arguably superior to AMD’s (more on that later); therefore, investors should not look for growth here.\nAlthough AMD’s EPYC server CPU products were competitive with that of rivals, initially the company relied on aggressive pricing to promote its first generation of EPYC offerings. However, the EPYC line has gained wider acceptance, and with the Milan processors, the company is gaining market share. As server CPUs provide a better profit margin than the company’s other products, expansion into that space should aid in driving revenue.\nLate last year,AMD entered intoa deal to acquire Xilinx (XLNX), a leader in field programmable gate array (FPGA) chips. FPGAs can be used for a wide variety of applications. Because shifting to a competing FPGA provider requires retraining of engineers in software and design tools, customers are loath to make a switch to a competing vendor. Consequently, if the Xilinx deal goes through, AMD will have acquired a wide moat business. Management guides for operational efficiencies of approximately $300 million within 18 months of closing the transaction.\nThe Xilinx acquisition should bolster AMD’s data center and artificial intelligence businesses.\nAMD agreed to acquire Xilinx for $35 billion in an all-stock transaction.\nA Survey of NVIDIA\nNVDA's focus on the graphics processing units market has led the company to a dominant position in the discrete GPU space. The firm is the leader in discrete GPUs for computing platforms, especially gaming consoles. The fact that Intel licensed intellectual property from NVIDIA to integrate GPUs into its PC chipset testifies to the lead the company maintains.\nThe chart below provides a record of the burgeoning ASP the company has been able to command over the last half decade, beginning with the Pascal architecture in 2016, and progressing through Turing to Ampere.\nSource:AMD Investor Presentation\nThe firm’s chips are also found in many high-end PCs, and NVDA has particular strength in the incipient AI and self-driving vehicle markets.\nGPUs are being teamed with CPUs to enhance computation workloads. This stratagem is designed to bolster the ability of AI systems to perform computationally intensive tasks. AI related to autonomous vehicles is a developing strength for NVIDIA. Another arena in which the firm is making its mark is in cloud\nAI and data centers pose the most likely avenue of growth for NVDA. To strengthen its position in both businesses, the company moved last year to acquire ARM Holdings (ARMHF) from parent company Softbank for $40 billion.\nARM is the globe’s largest licensor of chip designs. Its chips are ubiquitous and can be found in mobile phones, smart TVs, and tablet computers. 160 billion chips have been made using ARM designs.\nPerhaps of equal importance is that 13 million developers work with ARM devices. To place that in context, NVDA has 2 million developers working on its array of devices.\nUnfortunately for investors, bothChinaand theU.K.are reportedly balking at approving the deal.\nHead-To-Head Comparisons\nValuation Metrics\nThe following chart provides a variety of metrics related to each stock's valuation. All data labeled forward is analysts’ next fiscal year consensus estimate.\nSource:Seeking Alpha Premium/ chart by author\nNext, I’m using a graph to provide PEG ratios for the three companies. As there can be fairly wide variations in PEG ratios due to analysts’ inputs, I prefer that readers have access to multiple sources when I find wide variance in the ratio.\nChart by author\nNote that Seeking Alpha provides a three to five-year PEG, Schwab simply lists its metric as a PEG ratio, while Yahoo! Finance calculates a five-year ratio. This could explain some of the variance in the numbers provided.\nPerusing the first chart, it is obvious that NVDA is the most overvalued. It is also interesting to note that in the current P/E and the forward price/cash flow estimates show AMD as valued near the sector median.\nCount me as an investor that places great emphasis on a stocks PEG Ratio. Viewing the second chart, AMD has the best PEG of the three companies. I also note that analysts from each source calculated AMD’s PEG ratio as better than the sector median.\nDo not misinterpret my findings. While INTC has a lower valuation in many respects, when considering other factors, I rate AMD higher overall. In other words, it is not the cheapest valuation but the best valuation, for lack of a better means to articulate my view.\n=Advantage AMD\nAnalysts’ Price Targets\nNVIDIA shares currently trade for $202.95. The average 12-month price target of 33 analysts is $186.49. The average price target of the 17 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $210.53, about 3.7% above the current price of the stock.\nAMD shares currently trade for $107.58. The average 12-month price target of 28 analysts is $108.56. The average price target of the 11 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $117.27, roughly 9% above the prevailing share price.\nIntel shares currently trade for $54.05. The average 12-month price target of 34 analysts is $59.86. The average price target of the 16 analysts that rated the stock following the latest earnings report is $58.97, a 9% premium over the current share price.\nInvestors should be aware that it has been nearly three months since NVDA posted quarterly earnings while INTC and AMD reported recently.\n=Tie AMD/INTC\nGrowth Rates\nThe next chart provides data for growth rates. Unless otherwise noted, the metrics reflect analysts' average two-year forecasts.\nSource:Seeking Alpha Premium/ Chart by author\nWhile investors familiar with these three companies would expect INTC to perform poorly in relation to NVDA and AMD in regarding growth, in several cases Intel is projected to experience negative growth rates.\nAdvanced Micro Devices projected growth leads that of NVIDIA in every category, and at times by very wide margins.\n=Advantage AMD\nI considered providing a chart outlining the profitability of each company; however, suffice it to say that each is highly profitable, and that a juxtaposition of the three would result in a tie.\nI often provide a comparison that breaks down dividend metrics, but AMD does not pay a dividend, and NVDA has an anemic yield. INTC currently yields about 2.6%. The dividend is well funded.\nDebt Metrics\nNVIDIA had $12.67 billion in cash and $5.96 billion at the end of the last quarter. Should the ARM acquisition meet approval, the deal is structured so that $21 billion of the $40 billion purchase price will be in stock.\nAMD has restructured its debt resulting in reduced interest costs. AMD had about $3.8 billion in cash and $313 million in long-term debt at the end of the most recent quarter.\nIntel's has solid investment-grade credit ratings. The company held nearly $24.86 billion cash at the end of the last quarter and had $31.7 billion long-term debt.\nAll three firms have strong financial positions. Weighing the possibility that NVDA and AMD may add debt due to prospective acquisitions, I am rating the three firms as equals.\nR&D Budgets\nThis is the first time I have compared the R&D budgets of companies for a head-to-head showdown. However, in the semiconductor industry, that can be of pivotal importance.\nLast fiscal year, Intel devoted over $13.5 billion to R&D, NVDA spent nearly $2.83 billion, and AMD budgeted a bit over $1.9 billion on research and development.\nAMD is at a clear disadvantage, and that weakness is magnified because it often competes against INTC and NVDA in different arenas. It should be noted that a portion of Intel’s R&D is funneled to its foundry business. Nevertheless, it is the clear winner here, and AMD is the obvious loser.\nI should add that NVDA is chipping away at AMD’s share of the discrete GPU market, and I believe that trend will continue, in part due to the disparity in R&D budgets.\n=Advantage INTC\nBottom Line: Which Is The Best Chip Stock?\nTo arrive at an answer, much depends on whether NVIDIA can complete its acquisition of ARM.\nBecause ARM processors are more power and cost-efficient than x86 chips, NVDA could gain market share in the data center space. Since around a third of Intel’s revenue flows from data centers, that could represent a headwind for INTC and a positive for NVDA. However, there is a good chance the deal will fail to close.\nThe degree of success Intel finds as its planned foundries come online is another factor that should be weighed.\nA development to be weighed is that AMD has now reached parity with INTC in the PC market in terms of the quality of its products. Furthermore, AMD is gaining market share in the server market, and I expect that trend to continue.\nOn the other hand, AMD is losing share in the discrete GPU market to NVDA. NVDA has a technological lead in that space which will probably continue.\nWhile AMD and NVDA are seen as growth machines, one should not ignore that Intel’s Internet of Things business increased by 47% in the last quarter. Mobileye also saw a surge in growth with revenue increasing 124%. Although these businesses only totaled $1.3 billion in revenue, a fraction of Intel's total revenue of $18.5 billion, they still represent areas of high growth.\nHowever, note the header refers to “chip stock.” Consequently, technological advantages are but one part of the puzzle. MKS, which has a market capitalization of about $10 billion, will fund the acquisition through cash and debt financing.\nThe offer represents a premium of about 10% to Atotech’s closing price on June 10, when Reuters reported MKS had approached Atotech with an acquisition offer.\nThe deal comes at a time the chip industry has been dealing with a global shortage of semiconductors that has shuttered some auto production lines and its impact has been felt in other areas, including consumer electronics.\nAtotech, backed by buyout firm Carlyle Group Inc, made its U.S. public market debut in February at $17 per share. I think the attention being paid to Reddit and meme stocks is a bunch of hokum.</p>\n<p>The arguments abound whether the meme stock frenzy is&nbsp;a permanent part of the investing landscape.</p>\n<p>“This is not going to end well,” Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner told<i>CNBC</i>in early June while discussing the AMC rally. “I think historically we’ve seen this in the past, but I do believethis grouphas staying power.”</p>\n<p>However, if you’re a value investor, the mere presence of this kind of retail investor is music to your ears. Soon, Tesla will have a fourth factory open in Berlin. Even though the original opening date of July 1 is no longer on the table due to myriad reasons, it will ultimately produce millions of electric vehicles (EVs) for willing European buyers.</p>\n<p>The company has added a&nbsp;battery cell production&nbsp;component to the plant outside Berlin. It will produce 500 million cells annually representing 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, 25% higher than&nbsp;<b>Volkswagen’s</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>VWAGY</u></b>) planned facility a couple hundred miles away.</p>\n<p>Across the pond in Texas, the company’s fifth so-called Gigafactory is getting closer to being ready for production. This plant will produce an updated version of the Model Y using “mega casting” technology to speed up the production process while delivering a lighter vehicle at the same time. It currently&nbsp;uses this technology&nbsp;at its plant in Shanghai.</p>\n<p>Tesla has afree cash flow (FCF) marginof 22.3% based on $35.94 billion in trailing-12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>KB Home (KBH)</b></p>\n<p>The largest homebuilders in America are having&nbsp;trouble keeping up with demand&nbsp;at the moment. At least for now, KB Home is meeting the demand from customers, 64% of which were first-time buyers in the latest quarter.</p>\n<p>“Operationally, our divisions are doing an&nbsp;excellent job&nbsp;of navigating this environment of demand strength and well-publicized supply chain constraints as we effectively balanced pace, price and starts to optimize our assets and manage our production,” said KB Home CEO Jeff Mezger in the Q2 2021 conference call.</p>\n<p>KB Home is so busy that the number of homes started in Q1 2021 and Q2 2021 was equivalent to 75% of the number of homes started for 2020. As a result, it expects to deliver $6 billion in housing revenue in 2021 at the midpoint of guidance, with operating margins between 11.5% and 12.0%.</p>\n<p>KB Home has anFCF margin of 6.5%based on $4.78 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Palantir Technologies (PLTR)</b></p>\n<p>Palantir has been a public company for less than a year. The provider of data analytics software platforms for government agencies, corporations, and other large institutions, sold no shares last September when directly listedon the NYSE.</p>\n<p>The reference price was $7.25. PLTR stock is up 277.7% through the start of June 29.</p>\n<p>Not only is it growing its business — in the latest quarter, itsU.S. commercial revenuegrew 72% year-over-year while its U.S. government revenue jumped 83% YOY — it is also busy investing in other tech companies looking to go public.</p>\n<p>For example, it has invested in six private investments in public equity (PIPE) in the past three months. These PIPEs are part of the ongoing interest in special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Palantir invests&nbsp;in the PIPEs&nbsp;to gain financial returns and collaborate with these companies, which use its data analytic tools for their businesses.</p>\n<p>I’m not 100% sold on Palantir&nbsp;just yet, but it’s a good long-term buy compared to some of the Reddit stocks on this list.</p>\n<p>Palantir has anFCF margin of 9%based on $1.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Clean Energy Fuels</b><b>(</b><b>CLNE)</b></p>\n<p>Back in February,I recommended CLNE. At the time, it was trading around $12.97. It was one of seven stocks to buy under $20. As I write this, it’s just under $11, so it’s lost ground over the past four months.</p>\n<p>I liked Clean Energy for several reasons.</p>\n<p>First, it provides three kinds of natural gas fuel for commercial trucks: compressed (CNG), liquified (LNG), and renewable (RNG). It’s the only fuel provider to do so. Secondly, RNG fuel enables trucking companies to deliver their services while getting close to or achieving carbon negative status. Third, it’s got fueling stations in 43 states and Canada. Lastly, it’s got deep pockets.<b>Total</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>TTFNF</u></b>) owns 25% of its stock.</p>\n<p>Oh, and as I said in February, from an adjusted EBITDA basis (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), it makes money while also growing revenues at a steady pace.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, Clean Energy has anFCF margin of 24.2%based on $283 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>BlackBerry (BB)</b></p>\n<p>I can remember when&nbsp;President Barack Obama&nbsp;first entered the White House in January 2009. The BlackBerry was considered the cat’s meow when it came to mobile phones. By the time he left office in January 2017, it was in the dustbin of history.</p>\n<p>Now supplying security software to automobile manufacturers and other enterprises and governments worldwide — a research firm recently said its QNX software is installed in195 million vehicles&nbsp;worldwide — the Reddit crowd have taken to the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company.</p>\n<p>Things have turned around for BlackBerry.</p>\n<p>At least, enough so to provide CEO John Chen with a handsome compensation package. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis recently blasted the company, suggesting its&nbsp;compensation plan&nbsp;had no relation to its overall corporate performance.</p>\n<p>As a result of the January Reddit rally, which saw BB stock move from $6.70 at the beginning of the month to a 52-week high of $28.77 by the end, Chen could receive as much as $206 million in cash and stock compensation from the long-term incentives issued in 2019.</p>\n<p>On a GAAP basis,BlackBerry still loses money. That said, the pivot it’s made to software has given it another shot at tech stardom. We’ll see if it gain regain its former glory from the Obama years.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, BlackBerry has anFCF margin of 9.3%based on $861 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Workhorse Group (WKHS)</b></p>\n<p>The last time I wrote about Workhorse Group was in late April. At the time, it was trading around $12.50. I argued that if it got the&nbsp;backlog of 8,000&nbsp;commercial electric vehicle delivery trucks out the door over the next 12 to 24 months, it would have an ultra-low price-to-sales ratio of 4.2.</p>\n<p>Long story short, if it did, its stock would be worth more than $12.50.</p>\n<p>Well, on June 16, Workhorse&nbsp;officially protested&nbsp;the United States Postal Service awarding the estimated $6 billion contract to manufacture its next-generation delivery vehicle to&nbsp;<b>Oshkosh</b>(NYSE:<b><u>OSK</u></b>). The news pushed WKHS to $17.54 at the start of June 29.</p>\n<p><i>InvestorPlace’s</i>&nbsp;Dana Blankenhorn recently discussed Workhorse. He believes that the company was in the commercial EV game to&nbsp;ride on the coattails&nbsp;of big guns like&nbsp;<b>Ford</b>(NYSE:<b><u>F</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>General Motors</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GM</u></b>). That’s not the craziest theory in the world.</p>\n<p>In the latest quarter, Workhorse delivered six trucks to customers and generated $521,000 in revenue. It plans to produce&nbsp;1,000 trucks&nbsp;in 2021. It will have to pick up the pace if it wants to reach that goal. In the meantime, investors can expect its quarterly losses to accelerate as we make our way through the year.</p>\n<p>Workhorse has an&nbsp;FCF margin of -5,320.2%&nbsp;based on $1.83 million in trailing 12-month revenue. It is for speculative investors only.</p>\n<p><b>AMC Entertainment (AMC)</b></p>\n<p>AMC is a stock that I’m conflicted about.</p>\n<p>On the one hand, I believe that Americans will return to movie theaters in large numbers come fall. That will likely return the chain to pre-Covid revenue numbers. On the other hand, it has a burdensome debt load.</p>\n<p>Despite using the Reddit surge to raise much-needed cash to repay some of this debt — on June 3, it announced it would sell 11.55 million shares at the market to bring in another&nbsp;$600 million— it still has&nbsp;$11.05 billion&nbsp;owed, or 37.6% of its vastly overvalued market capitalization of $29.4 billion.</p>\n<p>Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner appeared on&nbsp;<i>CNBC</i>&nbsp;in early June. While he&nbsp;commended AMC management&nbsp;for selling shares when prices were high, the company is not worth $28 billion.</p>\n<p>“Absent some serious strategic undertakings by that company, it’s still just not worth what it’s trading for right now,” Roessner stated.</p>\n<p>I couldn’t agree more.</p>\n<p>AMC has anFCF margin of -280%based on $449 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>ContextLogic (WISH)</b></p>\n<p>In February, I wrote an article about the e-commerce site with the headline“ContextLogic Has Nothing to Do With Retail”<i>.</i>I didn’t understand the composition of its board. It had no retail experience on its board to oversee the CEO.</p>\n<p>“If ContextLogic’s goal is to beat&nbsp;<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b>AMZN</b>) at discount e-commerce apparel, its board of directors is a sure sign that’s not what it’s after,” I said.</p>\n<p>I finished the article by stating I didn’t get an inspirational vibe from Context Logic’s board of directors. In the four months since, WISH has lost 49% of its value and trades well below its&nbsp;IPO price&nbsp;of $24.</p>\n<p>ContextLogic has anFCF margin of -8%based on $2.87 billion in trailing 12-month revenue. I’m really not sure what Redditors see in this one.</p>\n<p><b>Globalstar (GSAT)</b></p>\n<p>Not everyone thinks the provider of mobile satellite services is a bad bet.</p>\n<p>B. Riley analyst Mike Crawford initiated coverage of Globalstar on June 21. The analyst gives it a “buy” rating and a&nbsp;$3.25 target price, double where it’s currently trading. He estimates that the company’s C-Band spectrum could be worth as much as $15 billion. Based on 1.79 billion shares outstanding, that’s $8.38 a share, considerably higher than the analyst’s target price.</p>\n<p>From where I sit, the fact that it’s currently trading at&nbsp;a price-to-sales ratio of 25.39&nbsp;and&nbsp;not making money&nbsp;on a GAAP basis makes it very hard for me to get behind the company.</p>\n<p>However, Globalstar does have one big ace up its sleeve.</p>\n<p>On page 87 of its&nbsp;2020 10-K, you will see that it had $1.8 billion in U.S. net operating loss (NOL) carryforwards with less than 1% expiring before 2025. It has an additional $200 million in foreign NOL carryforwards. So, should it start generating significant profits — that’s still very much up in the air — the loss carryforwards will shield the company’s earnings from taxes for the foreseeable future.</p>\n<p>Globalstar has anFCF margin of 18%based on $123 million in trailing 12-month revenue.</p>\n<p><b>Clover Health (CLOV)</b></p>\n<p>They say timing is everything.</p>\n<p>In early June, I wrote an article about the healthcare technology company, which uses data to provide healthcare plans for more than 130,000 Americans. At the time, I felt like there was a fair bit of&nbsp;upside resistance at $10.</p>\n<p>While I wouldn’t buy the money-losing stock, a patient investor with a higher than average risk tolerance would be wise to buy around $9, or hopefully less. And then came the June 8 Reddit-induced short squeeze, doubling CLOV’s share price within hours.</p>\n<p>“By afternoon trading [June 8], Clover had already traded over&nbsp;650 million shares, 30 times more than its 30-day average volume of 22 million shares, according to FactSet,”<i>CNBC</i>‘s Yun Lireported. “By the closing bell on Wall Street, more than 720 million shares had changed hands.”</p>\n<p>CLOV stock closed June 7 trading at $11.92. By 4 p.m. the next day, it was over $22.</p>\n<p>In my article, I mentioned the investing lesson a 17-year-old learned about managing your expectations when playing with real money. I really hope he was able to sell his call options in the June surge.
