banks trading close to their all-time highs, should you still add them into your investment portfolio?","content":"

Singapore’s three local banks enjoyed an amazing run last year.

Buoyed by higher interest rates and benign economic conditions, the trio of banks saw their share prices hit all-time highs.

DBS Group (SGX: D05) led the pack with a stunning 44% share price increase in 2024.

OCBC Ltd (SGX: O39) came in second with a 28.4% share price gain while United Overseas Bank (SGX: U11), or UOB, came close with a 27.7% jump.

The strong performance of the three banks propelled the Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI) to a 17-year high and brought it close to its all-time high of 3,908 reached in October 2007.

However, investors have turned cautious.

With the three lenders logging big gains last year, is there still room to buy the local banks?

“Higher for longer” interest rates

It’s no secret that the banks have enjoyed their stellar run because of the surge in interest rates over the past two years.

From 2022 to 2023, interest rates rose at their fastest pace ever, with a 4.88 percentage point jump.

These rates were raised aggressively by the US Federal Reserve (“Fed”) to fight inflation.

However, the spectre of an economic slowdown looms when rates stay high as businesses and individuals hold back from borrowing.

The latest economic data from the US paints an optimistic picture, though.

For November 2024, nonfarm payrolls rose by 227,000 for the month, higher than estimates for 214,000.

The unemployment rate ticked slightly higher to 4.2%.

The US economy continues to produce a healthy number of jobs despite rates being where they are now.

Last month, the Fed made its third interest rate reduction for 2024, lowering its benchmark federal funds rate to a range of between 4.25% to 4.5%.

Despite the reduction, the central bank pencilled in just two interest rate cuts for this year, down from the four that it had forecast as recently as September.

This dot plot is good news for the three banks as a sustained high-interest-rate environment will benefit their net interest margins and prop up net interest income.

Incoming President Donald Trump’s policies may also prove inflationary as he has promised to impose harsh tariffs on trade partners.

Should these tariffs come to pass, the Fed may be forced to hold rates “higher for longer” to continue combating inflation.

Better non-interest income

Apart from net interest income, banks can rely on non-interest income to boost their total income.

Non-interest income consists of fees from dishing out loans, wealth management fees from managing investment portfolios, and credit card fees from consumers using their credit cards.

For the first nine months of 2024 (9M 2024), DBS Group saw a 27% year-on-year surge in non-interest income to S$3.2 billion.

OCBC’s non-interest income jumped 23% year on year to S$3.8 billion over the same period while UOB saw its net fee income climb 10% year on year to S$1.8 billion.

All three banks have done well to grow this component of their total income, and 2025 may have more to come.

DBS projects its non-interest income to grow by high-single-digits for 2025 while UOB sees “double-digit” fee growth.

Excess capital

Being conservatively managed has its perks as it allows banks to be more resilient and able to weather tough times when they arrive.

The trio of banks reported healthy excess capital that could be paid out to investors in the form of higher dividends while also reinvesting for growth.

DBS led the way by disclosing that it has around S$5.9 billion in excess capital, or around S$2 per share, that can either be used for share buybacks, higher ordinary dividends, or special dividends.

OCBC declined to disclose the amount of excess capital it has but CEO Helen Wong says that the lender has enough capital for mergers and acquisitions and business growth.

For UOB, CFO Lee Wai Fai said that the bank has excess capital of between S$2 billion to S$2.5 billion.

An optimistic outlook

Singapore recently reported that its GDP expanded by 4% for 2024, significantly better than the 1.1% GDP growth logged in 2023.

This ending figure is higher than the 3.5% GDP growth forecast by the Ministry for Trade and Industry back in November 2024.

UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong projected high single-digit loan growth for this year while DBS has also forecast loan growth, though it did not specify the quantum.

Get Smart: Room for further growth

Investors in the three Singapore banks enjoyed healthy capital gains last year along with rising dividends.

2025 should be an interesting year where the banks maintain their net interest income while growing their non-interest income.

A healthy economy should also spur loan growth, which should help to mitigate any fall in the banks’ net interest margins.

The presence of excess capital enables the banks to sustain or even raise their dividend payments.

In short, there is room for further growth for the three banks, barring unforeseen circumstances.

","source":"thesmartinvestor_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=utf-8\" three local banks enjoyed an amazing run last year.Buoyed by higher interest rates and benign economic conditions, the trio of banks saw their share prices hit all-time highs.DBS Group (SGX: D05) led the pack with a stunning 44% share price increase in 2024.OCBC Ltd (SGX: O39) came in second with a 28.4% share price gain while United Overseas Bank (SGX: U11), or UOB, came close with a 27.7% jump. The strong performance of the three banks propelled the Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI) to a 17-year high and brought it close to its all-time high of 3,908 reached in October 2007.However, investors have turned cautious. With the three lenders logging big gains last year, is there still room to buy the local banks?“Higher for longer” interest ratesIt’s no secret that the banks have enjoyed their stellar run because of the surge in interest rates over the past two years. For November 2024, nonfarm payrolls rose by 227,000 for the month, higher than estimates for 214,000.The unemployment rate ticked slightly higher to 4.2%.The US economy continues to produce a healthy number of jobs despite rates being where they are now.Last month, the Fed made its third interest rate reduction for 2024, lowering its benchmark federal funds rate to a range of between 4.25% to 4.5%.Despite the reduction, the central bank pencilled in just two interest rate cuts for this year, down from the four that it had forecast as recently as September. This dot plot is good news for the three banks as a sustained high-interest-rate environment will benefit their net interest margins and prop up net interest income.Incoming President Donald Trump’s policies may also prove inflationary as he has promised to impose harsh tariffs on trade partners.Should these tariffs come to pass, the Fed may be forced to hold rates “higher for longer” to continue combating inflation.Better non-interest incomeApart from net interest income, banks can rely on non-interest income to boost their total income.Non-interest income consists of fees from dishing out loans, wealth management fees from managing investment portfolios, and credit card fees from consumers using their credit cards. For the first nine months of 2024 (9M 2024), DBS Group saw a 27% year-on-year surge in non-interest income to S$3.2 billion.OCBC’s non-interest income jumped 23% year on year to S$3.8 billion over the same period while UOB saw its net fee income climb 10% year on year to S$1.8 billion. All three banks have done well to grow this component of their total income, and 2025 may have more to come.DBS projects its non-interest income to grow by high-single-digits for 2025 while UOB sees “double-digit” fee growth.Excess capitalBeing conservatively managed has its perks as it allows banks to be more resilient and able to weather tough times when they arrive. The trio of banks reported healthy excess capital that could be paid out to investors in the form of higher dividends while also reinvesting for growth.DBS led the way by disclosing that it has around S$5.9 billion in excess capital, or around S$2 per share, that can either be used for share buybacks, higher ordinary dividends, or special dividends.OCBC declined to disclose the amount of excess capital it has but CEO Helen Wong says that the lender has enough capital for mergers and acquisitions and business growth. For UOB, CFO Lee Wai Fai said that the bank has excess capital of between S$2 billion to S$2.5 billion. An optimistic outlookSingapore recently reported that its GDP expanded by 4% for 2024, significantly better than the 1.1% GDP growth logged in 2023.This ending figure is higher than the 3.5% GDP growth forecast by the Ministry for Trade and Industry back in November 2024.UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong projected high single-digit loan growth for this year while DBS has also forecast loan growth, though it did not specify the quantum.Get Smart: Room for further growthInvestors in the three Singapore banks enjoyed healthy capital gains last year along with rising dividends.2025 should be an interesting year where the banks maintain their net interest income while growing their non-interest income.A healthy economy should also spur loan growth, which should help to mitigate any fall in the banks’ net interest margins. The presence of excess capital enables the banks to sustain or even raise their dividend payments. In short, there is room for further growth for the three banks, barring unforeseen circumstances.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":321652995489992,"gmtCreate":1719559050795,"gmtModify":1719559054530,"author":{"id":"4088172201001350","authorId":"4088172201001350","name":"AlanLai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c28e968cba3cf16099912c2d1e4ad6da","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088172201001350","authorIdStr":"4088172201001350"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hope Wood has excelled in each of these roles, and was named the best stock picker in 2020 by Bloomberg News. Last year, Ark's flagship ARK Innovation ETF trounced the greater market by posting a mind-boggling 148% return.
\n
A return to the mean was always likely, and ARK Innovation is slightly in the red year to date and down 20% from highs established in February. Investors have rotated to value stocks like banks and energy, and sold disruptive technology stocks Wood favors.
\n
However, that hasn't changed Wood's long-term focus, and she's doubled down on many names. Here are three growth stocks from her portfolio down 25% (or more) from their 52-week highs that are positioned for long-term success.
\n
Spotify's brilliant podcasting move will pay off
\n
Shares of Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) are down 38% from year-to-date highs, most recently due to sluggish monthly active user growth in the second quarter. Like many of the investments in Wood's portfolio, Spotify was considered a pandemic stock and benefited from the work-from-home shift -- shares doubled in 2020. Spotify stock might have taken a breather this year, but the financials point to continued success.
\n
Spotify is well on the way to eliminating its biggest weakness. The unit economics of the music industry are difficult and competitive, particularly among Spotify's 210 million ad-supported monthly active users (MAUs) as it competes against free radio and outlets like Apple Music. During the second quarter, it was weakness in MAU growth that sent shares tumbling.
\n
Despite slightly missing MAU figures, Spotify continues to be effective at converting users into more lucrative paying subscribers. The company reported a 20% year-over-year increase in subscribers last quarter, at the top end of management's expectations. This helped the company post $2.75 billion in revenue, higher than analyst expectations of $2.23 billion.
\n
Much of the growth can be credited to Spotify's recent moves into podcasting. Last year Spotify signed podcaster Joe Rogan to a massive $100 million contract and followed that up this year with a $60 million deal with Alexandra Cooper of \"Call Her Daddy.\"
\n
For Spotify, podcasting packs a one-two punch: In addition to boosting subscribers, the unit economics of podcasting are more favorable than music over the long term. There's no wonder the area is red-hot with both Apple and Netflix racing to build out their capability. In the short run, they're unlikely to compete with Spotify, and it's likely Cathie Wood knows that.
\n
Zillow Group could revolutionize the homebuying process
\n
Shares of real-estate-focused website Zillow Group (NASDAQ:ZG) (NASDAQ:Z) have been cut in half since February. That's a significant change in fortunes; the company advanced nearly 200% last year as the pandemic unpredictably boosted home sales and prices. The housing market is beginning to return to normal, as sales of new homes fell to a pandemic-era low in June.
\n
Despite the recent setback, Zillow remains primed for long-term growth by continuing to disrupt a trillion-dollar industry. In an era of e-commerce and on-demand transactions, the homebuying process is a relic of yesteryear. Homebuying is not only time-consuming, it's full of middlemen that can take as much as 10% of the transaction cost!
\n
Zillow started as a database but continues to move deeper into the transactional process by incorporating valuation, financing, and agent referral functionality. In 2019, the company took its most aggressive move to disrupt the market completely by launching Zillow Offers, an iBuying program through which the company transacts with homebuyers and sellers directly.
\n
The company has competition in the space from Redfin and Opendoor Technologies, but iBuying will not be a winner-take-all market, and Zillow's massive user database and history will allow the company to win significant share. iBuying could disrupt a trillion-dollar industry, and Zillow will be one of the major winners.
\n
Etsy's acquisitions position it for geographical and Gen Z success
\n
Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) shares are down 25% from 52-week highs established in March. Like Spotify, the most recent catalyst was second-quarter earnings. Although the company beat analyst expectations for revenue and earnings, analysts were concerned with slowing user growth and forward guidance.
\n
The company guided for third-quarter revenue of $513 million at the midpoint, lower than analyst forecasts of $528 million. Additionally, new buyer growth decelerated from last-year's pandemic mania, although habitual buyers (six or more purchase days and $200 in yearly spend) continue to grow at a rapid clip.
\n
There are reasons to be excited about Etsy's path forward due to its recent acquisitions. Wood has excelled in each of these roles, and was named the best stock picker in 2020 by Bloomberg News. Last year, Ark's flagship ARK Innovation ETF trounced the greater market by posting a mind-boggling 148% return.\nA return to the mean was always likely, and ARK Innovation is slightly in the red year to date and down 20% from highs established in February. Investors have rotated to value stocks like banks and energy, and sold disruptive technology stocks Wood favors.\nHowever, that hasn't changed Wood's long-term focus, and she's doubled down on many names. Here are three growth stocks from her portfolio down 25% (or more) from their 52-week highs that are positioned for long-term success.\nSpotify's brilliant podcasting move will pay off\nShares of Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) are down 38% from year-to-date highs, most recently due to sluggish monthly active user growth in the second quarter. Like many of the investments in Wood's portfolio, Spotify was considered a pandemic stock and benefited from the work-from-home shift -- shares doubled in 2020. Spotify stock might have taken a breather this year, but the financials point to continued success.\nSpotify is well on the way to eliminating its biggest weakness. The unit economics of the music industry are difficult and competitive, particularly among Spotify's 210 million ad-supported monthly active users (MAUs) as it competes against free radio and outlets like Apple Music. During the second quarter, it was weakness in MAU growth that sent shares tumbling.\nDespite slightly missing MAU figures, Spotify continues to be effective at converting users into more lucrative paying subscribers. The company reported a 20% year-over-year increase in subscribers last quarter, at the top end of management's expectations. This helped the company post $2.75 billion in revenue, higher than analyst expectations of $2.23 billion.\nMuch of the growth can be credited to Spotify's recent moves into podcasting. Last year Spotify signed podcaster Joe Rogan to a massive $100 million contract and followed that up this year with a $60 million deal with Alexandra Cooper of \"Call Her Daddy.\"\nFor Spotify, podcasting packs a one-two punch: In addition to boosting subscribers, the unit economics of podcasting are more favorable than music over the long term. There's no wonder the area is red-hot with both Apple and Netflix racing to build out their capability. In the short run, they're unlikely to compete with Spotify, and it's likely Cathie Wood knows that.\nZillow Group could revolutionize the homebuying process\nShares of real-estate-focused website Zillow Group (NASDAQ:ZG) (NASDAQ:Z) have been cut in half since February. That's a significant change in fortunes; the company advanced nearly 200% last year as the pandemic unpredictably boosted home sales and prices. The housing market is beginning to return to normal, as sales of new homes fell to a pandemic-era low in June.\nDespite the recent setback, Zillow remains primed for long-term growth by continuing to disrupt a trillion-dollar industry. In an era of e-commerce and on-demand transactions, the homebuying process is a relic of yesteryear. Homebuying is not only time-consuming, it's full of middlemen that can take as much as 10% of the transaction cost!\nZillow started as a database but continues to move deeper into the transactional process by incorporating valuation, financing, and agent referral functionality. In 2019, the company took its most aggressive move to disrupt the market completely by launching Zillow Offers, an iBuying program through which the company transacts with homebuyers and sellers directly.\nThe company has competition in the space from Redfin and Opendoor Technologies, but iBuying will not be a winner-take-all market, and Zillow's massive user database and history will allow the company to win significant share. iBuying could disrupt a trillion-dollar industry, and Zillow will be one of the major winners.\nEtsy's acquisitions position it for geographical and Gen Z success\nEtsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) shares are down 25% from 52-week highs established in March. Like Spotify, the most recent catalyst was second-quarter earnings. Although the company beat analyst expectations for revenue and earnings, analysts were concerned with slowing user growth and forward guidance.\nThe company guided for third-quarter revenue of $513 million at the midpoint, lower than analyst forecasts of $528 million. Additionally, new buyer growth decelerated from last-year's pandemic mania, although habitual buyers (six or more purchase days and $200 in yearly spend) continue to grow at a rapid clip.\nThere are reasons to be excited about Etsy's path forward due to its recent acquisitions. First, the company has acquired Depop, the Gen Z-friendly apparel resale app. This category is expected to double to nearly $80 billion by 2025.\nAdditionally, the company acquired the \"Etsy of Brazil,\" Elo7. This gives Etsy a foothold in the Latin American e-commerce market that is expected to triple in value by 2025. Delisting fears are massively exaggerated and Alibaba's eCommerce business, free cash flow and expected top line growth are available at an attractive price.

Alibaba is stepping up its share buybacks

Alibaba announced a massive increase in its share buyback, which couldn't have come at a better time. Shares of Alibaba dropped by more than half over the last year and they trade, by and large, disconnected from Alibaba's free cash flow value. The buyback, which comes just a week after shares were subjected to resurfacing ADR delisting fears, has been increased from $15B to $25B. According to a company release from March 22, Alibaba is going to execute the share buyback over a period of two years. The $25B buyback calculates to about 8.6% of Alibaba's market cap. Alibaba's upsized share buyback authorization caused the stock to spike 11% on Tuesday.

Data by YCharts

Alibaba is no stranger to share buybacks and regularly repurchases American depositary shares under existing share buyback authorizations. Under the previous buyback authorization, Alibaba repurchased $9.2B of its American depositary shares and the new buyback significantly expands on the firm's ability to return more free cash flow to shareholders in the next two years.

In the past, I often mentioned Alibaba's considerable free cash flow, high free cash flow margins and still attractive long term growth prospects in the Chinese e-Commerce market as reasons to buy the stock. Alibaba's free cash flow value, however, is the best reason to buy into Alibaba. The Chinese e-Commerce firm has also made good use of its free cash flow in the past, investing in new growth segments such as cloud computing or digital media.

In the first nine months of FY 2022 Alibaba's various businesses generated 113.9B Chinese Yuan in free cash flow which calculates to $17.9B. Alibaba's free cash flow margin for the first nine months of FY 2022 was 18%. Alibaba also has a history or returning a significant amount of its free cash flow to shareholders, which is why the upsized share buyback is such a big deal. In the first nine months of FY 2022, Alibaba reinvested 41.8B Chinese Yuan of its free cash flow back into its businesses which calculates to a 37% FCF share. A massive 49.1B Chinese Yuan of free cash flow went to share repurchases in the last nine months, meaning Alibaba returned 43% of its free cash flow to shareholders. The upsized buyback will allow Alibaba to use an even higher percentage of free cash flow going forward to buy back shares.

Alibaba

Why the buyback is so important

There are two reason why I believe the buyback is so important and game-changer for Alibaba's investors. The first reason is that Chinese Big Tech is highly unpopular right now and the buyback does help investors regain confidence in Alibaba's growth prospects. The second reason is that Alibaba's free cash flow is hugely undervalued right now, so a buyback couldn't have come at a better time. As I indicated in my last work on Alibaba, the firm's adjusted market capitalization, adjusted for Alibaba's considerable net cash of $59.5B, translated to a P-FCF ratio of just 7 X just a week ago. Alibaba's net cash represents approximately 20% of Alibaba's market cap, lending a large safety margin to Alibaba's stock.

This week, shares of Alibaba continued to surge and reversed some of the losses sustained earlier in the month. However, Alibaba's free cash flow is still very, very attractively priced. Alibaba's current P-FCF ratio is 8x, assuming $7.0B in quarterly free cash flow next year (implied free cash flow margin of 18%) and total revenues of $157B.

Risks with Alibaba

An ADR delisting is unlikely, I believe, but new regulatory measures are a risk for shares of Alibaba going forward. There is also a potential risk of Alibaba getting slapped by regulators with new fines which would lower free cash flow estimates. The biggest commercial risk for Alibaba, as I see it, is a prolonged slowdown in revenue growth, especially in its all-important domestic e-Commerce business which still generates the majority of Alibaba's revenues. What would change my mind about Alibaba is if the company saw a material decline in its free cash flow growth and margins or if the government forced the e-Commerce company to sell off valuable parts of its business.

Final thoughts

Alibaba's upsized buyback is a game-changer because it allows Alibaba to return a larger percentage of its free cash flow to shareholders at a time in which the firm's FCF is massively undervalued. The P-FCF ratio for Alibaba's business, which keeps growing at 20% annually on the top line, is just 8 X. I believe Alibaba is doing exactly the right thing here and the buyback has the nice side effect of boosting confidence in Alibaba's platform business!

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; What would change my mind about Alibaba is if the company saw a material decline in its free cash flow growth and margins or if the government forced the e-Commerce company to sell off valuable parts of its business.Final thoughtsAlibaba's upsized buyback is a game-changer because it allows Alibaba to return a larger percentage of its free cash flow to shareholders at a time in which the firm's FCF is massively undervalued. The P-FCF ratio for Alibaba's business, which keeps growing at 20% annually on the top line, is just 8 X. I believe Alibaba is doing exactly the right thing here and the buyback has the nice side effect of boosting confidence in Alibaba's platform business!","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":460,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":807459920,"gmtCreate":1628052167060,"gmtModify":1703500329357,"author":{"id":"4088172201001350","authorId":"4088172201001350","name":"AlanLai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c28e968cba3cf16099912c2d1e4ad6da","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4088172201001350","idStr":"4088172201001350"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Fantastic. On the chart below is a ratio of the Nasdaq 100 versus the Dow Jones. When the line is rising, that means the former is outperforming the latter and vice versa. The ratio can be seen tending to inversely track the 10-year Treasury yield.
\n
Declines in the latter have been occurring amid a combination of weakening global growth prospects and cooling concerns about sooner-than-anticipated Fed tapering. Rising Covid cases around the world amid t spread of the more contagious Delta variant have been forcing nations, such as Australia and recently China, to reintroduce lockdowns.
\n
Unsurprisingly, this has applied outsized pressure on cyclical stocks, which are over-represented in the Dow Jones. Tech shares have seen material outperformance compared to other sectors since last year’s Covid outbreak. With that in mind, investors may continue favoring the Nasdaq 100 in the short term as the Delta variant threatens the global economy.
\n
All eyes are turning to Friday’s US non-farm payrolls report, where a softer-than-anticipated outcome risks further denting confidence in economic recovery prospects. If that sends longer-term Treasury yields lower still, then the Nasdaq 100 could continue outperforming the Dow Jones in the following trading sessions.
\n
There are a couple of risks that traders out to be mindful of however. It is possible that a materially weaker jobs report induces aggressive risk aversion in financial markets. In such a scenario, the Nasdaq 100 may be more vulnerable considering perceived lofty valuations in the tech sector. Meanwhile, the US Senate may pass a $550 billion infrastructure bill this week. That could revive bond yields, bring forward Fed tapering bets and skewing capital flows in favor of the Dow relative to the Nasdaq.
\n
Chart Created in TradingView
\n
NASDAQ 100 TECHNICAL ANALYSIS
\n
The NASDAQ 100 finds itself trading within a bearish Rising Wedge chart pattern. A breakout lower may open the door for reversing the near-term uptrend. Negative RSI divergence also shows that upside momentum may be fading. That can at times precede a turn lower. Such an outcome would likely place the focus on the 100-day Simple Moving Average (SMA). On the chart below is a ratio of the Nasdaq 100 versus the Dow Jones. When the line is rising, that means the former is outperforming the latter and vice versa. The ratio can be seen tending to inversely track the 10-year Treasury yield.\nDeclines in the latter have been occurring amid a combination of weakening global growth prospects and cooling concerns about sooner-than-anticipated Fed tapering. Rising Covid cases around the world amid t spread of the more contagious Delta variant have been forcing nations, such as Australia and recently China, to reintroduce lockdowns.\nUnsurprisingly, this has applied outsized pressure on cyclical stocks, which are over-represented in the Dow Jones. Tech shares have seen material outperformance compared to other sectors since last year’s Covid outbreak. With that in mind, investors may continue favoring the Nasdaq 100 in the short term as the Delta variant threatens the global economy.\nAll eyes are turning to Friday’s US non-farm payrolls report, where a softer-than-anticipated outcome risks further denting confidence in economic recovery prospects. If that sends longer-term Treasury yields lower still, then the Nasdaq 100 could continue outperforming the Dow Jones in the following trading sessions.\nThere are a couple of risks that traders out to be mindful of however. It is possible that a materially weaker jobs report induces aggressive risk aversion in financial markets. In such a scenario, the Nasdaq 100 may be more vulnerable considering perceived lofty valuations in the tech sector. Meanwhile, the US Senate may pass a $550 billion infrastructure bill this week. That could revive bond yields, bring forward Fed tapering bets and skewing capital flows in favor of the Dow relative to the Nasdaq.\nChart Created in TradingView\nNASDAQ 100 TECHNICAL ANALYSIS\nThe NASDAQ 100 finds itself trading within a bearish Rising Wedge chart pattern. A breakout lower may open the door for reversing the near-term uptrend. Negative RSI divergence also shows that upside momentum may be fading. That can at times precede a turn lower. Such an outcome would likely place the focus on the 100-day Simple Moving Average (SMA). The line may act as key support, from which the dominant uptrend might resume.\nChart Created in TradingView","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":92,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
