It reports earnings only next month -- but even FuelCell Energy had some news to report today.
\n
On Friday, investors rendered their verdict on the week, and it was generally positive, with every fuel cell stock but Plug closing the day higher -- and today looks even better.
\n
Here's how the fuel cell stocks are faring as of 11:35 a.m. EDT Monday.
\n
\n
Ballard Power is up 4.9%.
\n
Bloom Energy is up 5.5%.
\n
Plug Power is up a remarkable 8.5%.
\n
FuelCell Energy is doing best of all, up 11%.
\n
\n
So what
\n
After gaining only 2.2% Friday, FuelCell is rocketing this morning on news that it has secured $15 million in financing from East West Bank to fund its production of a 7.4 megawatt fuel cell project for the U.S. Navy Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut. It believes it can secure debt financing to complete the project later this year. Commercial operation of the project could begin as early as next month, and FuelCell calls this a \"milestone\" project for the company -- one that will secure a 20-year-long revenue stream as FuelCell provides electricity from the project to the Naval base.
\n
Now what
\n
Now let's quickly review the news for the other three fuel cell firms -- the ones that reported earnings last week, and see whytheyare performing so well, as well.
\n
According to published analyst estimates collated byTheFly.com, all three fuel cell firms (aside from FuelCell) missed earnings last week, with Bloom reporting a $0.23 per share loss on Wednesday, followed by Plug losing $0.18 per share on Thursday, and finally Ballard losing $0.07 per share on Friday.
\n
That doesn't sound so great, but on the bright side, Ballard and Plug, at least, reported better-than-expected revenue for their respective fiscal second quarters. And Bloom gave new guidance for the balance of fiscal 2021 which -- taken at the midpoint -- sees revenue coming in at about $975 million, or slightly ahead of expectations.
\n
It's this revenue growth investors seem to be focusing on today, on the assumption that at some point in the future, this revenue will turn into profits. Based on last week's abysmal profit performance, however, and based on the industry's history -- specifically, the fact that according toS&P Global Market Intelligence, out of these four companies, only Ballard has ever earned a single full-year profit in the past 20 years -- I'm not sure I share investors' optimism aboutthese stocks.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Ballard Power, Plug Power, Bloom Energy, and Especially FuelCell Energy Stocks Popped Today
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Ballard Power, Plug Power, Bloom Energy, and Especially FuelCell Energy Stocks Popped Today\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-10 10:52 GMT+8 The motley fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
What happened\nLast week was an important week for thehydrogen fuel cellindustry, withBallard Power Systems(NASDAQ:BLDP),Bloom Energy(NYSE:BE), andPlug Power(NASDAQ:PLUG)reporting earnings.FuelCell ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"PLUG":"普拉格能源","FCEL":"燃料电池能源","BLDP":"巴拉德动力系统"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/09/why-ballard-plug-bloom-fuelcell-stocks-popped/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1156817183","content_text":"What happened\nLast week was an important week for thehydrogen fuel cellindustry, withBallard Power Systems(NASDAQ:BLDP),Bloom Energy(NYSE:BE), andPlug Power(NASDAQ:PLUG)reporting earnings.FuelCell Energy(NASDAQ:FCEL)was the odd man out. Commercial operation of the project could begin as early as next month, and FuelCell calls this a \"milestone\" project for the company -- one that will secure a 20-year-long revenue stream as FuelCell provides electricity from the project to the Naval base.\nNow what\nNow let's quickly review the news for the other three fuel cell firms -- the ones that reported earnings last week, and see whytheyare performing so well, as well.\nAccording to published analyst estimates collated byTheFly.com, all three fuel cell firms (aside from FuelCell) missed earnings last week, with Bloom reporting a $0.23 per share loss on Wednesday, followed by Plug losing $0.18 per share on Thursday, and finally Ballard losing $0.07 per share on Friday.\nThat doesn't sound so great, but on the bright side, Ballard and Plug, at least, reported better-than-expected revenue for their respective fiscal second quarters. And Bloom gave new guidance for the balance of fiscal 2021 which -- taken at the midpoint -- sees revenue coming in at about $975 million, or slightly ahead of expectations.\nIt's this revenue growth investors seem to be focusing on today, on the assumption that at some point in the future, this revenue will turn into profits. Based on last week's abysmal profit performance, however, and based on the industry's history -- specifically, the fact that according toS&P Global Market Intelligence, out of these four companies, only Ballard has ever earned a single full-year profit in the past 20 years -- I'm not sure I share investors' optimism aboutthese stocks.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":205,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":898013313,"gmtCreate":1628453174332,"gmtModify":1703506280405,"author":{"id":"4088381730143720","authorId":"4088381730143720","name":"zachfire","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc1bf4715acf10cab7f9f9a0a63d66bf","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088381730143720","authorIdStr":"4088381730143720"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$I am hopeful when the market opens..","listText":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$I am hopeful when the market opens..","text":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$I am hopeful when the market opens..","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7b8233575edd303b57df86e0a948b79c","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/898013313","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":211,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891739366,"gmtCreate":1628425417855,"gmtModify":1703506128541,"author":{"id":"4088381730143720","authorId":"4088381730143720","name":"zachfire","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc1bf4715acf10cab7f9f9a0a63d66bf","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088381730143720","authorIdStr":"4088381730143720"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Following Bitcoin..","listText":"Following Bitcoin..","text":"Following Bitcoin..","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/31ea39df32ea3ac3e6d5a2b2a06a123d","width":"1080","height":"2259"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/891739366","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891730040,"gmtCreate":1628425245580,"gmtModify":1703506126415,"author":{"id":"4088381730143720","authorId":"4088381730143720","name":"zachfire","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc1bf4715acf10cab7f9f9a0a63d66bf","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088381730143720","authorIdStr":"4088381730143720"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I'm holding many pharma stocks..","listText":"I'm holding many pharma stocks..","text":"I'm holding many pharma stocks..","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/891730040","repostId":"2157646054","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2157646054","pubTimestamp":1628255580,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2157646054?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-06 21:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why COVID Vaccine Stocks Moderna, BioNTech, Novavax, and Dynavax Soared This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2157646054","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Each vaccine stock had its own separate catalyst.","content":"
What happened
\n
Shares of several COVID-19 vaccine makers soared this week as of the market close on Thursday. Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX) was the biggest winner, with its stock skyrocketing 31.7%. BioNTech's (NASDAQ:BNTX) shares vaulted 23.3% higher. Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) stock jumped 17.7%. That might seem strange, even for Musk. But it could also be savvy. “It’s brilliant,” Gary Black tells Barron’s. Former Wall Street analyst and executive Black has amassed 80,000 Twitter followers for his views on stocks, including Tesla, which he owns shares in. “We like the move,” adds Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, also a Tesla bull. He rates the stock a Buy, with a $1,000 price target. “While some will view it as letting competition in on Tesla’s supercharger moat, we disagree…”
\n
For all the competition between their makers, EVs account for less than 5% of all new cars sold in the U.S. The larger struggle remains between electric- and gasoline-powered vehicles. Anything Musk does to make buying electrics easier is good for Tesla. Besides, Tesla could make a lot of money by opening its network. Although Tesla didn’t respond to a question about potential pricing, charging won’t be free, and refusing to let others use the system would be like a gas station only servicing Fords. And charging eventually will be as ubiquitous as gas stations.
\n
Then there’s the free publicity and advertising. Opening up the charging network shows Tesla is interested in overall EV adoption and not just in selling its own vehicles. That’s positive for the brand. And it means that thousands of EV buyers will be pulling up to a Tesla logo, again and again.
\n
Investors brushed off the tweet. Tesla closed at $643.38 Friday, basically flat on the week, with earnings ahead. That’s probably right. “While some will view it as letting competition in on Tesla’s supercharger moat, we disagree…”\nFor all the competition between their makers, EVs account for less than 5% of all new cars sold in the U.S. And charging eventually will be as ubiquitous as gas stations.\nThen there’s the free publicity and advertising. Opening up the charging network shows Tesla is interested in overall EV adoption and not just in selling its own vehicles. That’s positive for the brand. And it means that thousands of EV buyers will be pulling up to a Tesla logo, again and again.\nInvestors brushed off the tweet. Tesla closed at $643.38 Friday, basically flat on the week, with earnings ahead. That’s probably right. For now, charging-for-all will probably matter more at the margins.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":299,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":177615623,"gmtCreate":1627208676262,"gmtModify":1703485578878,"author":{"id":"4088381730143720","authorId":"4088381730143720","name":"zachfire","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc1bf4715acf10cab7f9f9a0a63d66bf","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088381730143720","authorIdStr":"4088381730143720"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Shares of Dynavax Technologies (NASDAQ:DVAX) rose 10.6%.
\n
Was there a common denominator for all of these vaccine stocks? Increasing fears about the delta variant likely played a role to some extent. However, each company also had good news of its own.
\n

\n
\n
Novavax announced on Wednesday that the European Commission agreed to purchase up to 200 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine NVX-CoV2373. The deal includes an initial order of up to 100 million doses with an option to buy an additional 100 million doses through 2023.
\n
However, Novavax provided its second-quarter update following the market close on Thursday. The company now expects to file for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2021 instead of in the third quarter. Its shares gave up some of the week's gains in after-hours trading.
\n
BioNTech and its partner Pfizer benefited from a report that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will likely approve their COVID-19 vaccine by early September. The New York Times stated that the expected FDA approval could spur more vaccine mandates by employers.
\n
Moderna announced on Tuesday that it had received FDA Fast Track Designation for its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate mRNA-1345. The company also reported strong second-quarter results on Thursday and projected vaccine sales of $20 billion for the full year.
\n
Dynavax reported positive Q2 results on Wednesday. The company's revenue of $52.8 million blew past the consensus estimate of $41.6 million.
\n
So what
\n
Novavax had the biggest news of these vaccine makers. The company's European deal could generate a hefty amount of additional revenue over the next couple of years.
\n
Of the two companies reporting quarterly results, Dynavax delivered the greater upside surprise. Its Heplisav-B hepatitis B vaccine raked in $13.7 million in sales, the highest quarterly figure so far.
\n
Moderna also beat expectations with Q2 revenue of $4.4 billion. Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX) was the biggest winner, with its stock skyrocketing 31.7%. BioNTech's (NASDAQ:BNTX) shares vaulted 23.3% higher. Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) stock jumped 17.7%. Shares of Dynavax Technologies (NASDAQ:DVAX) rose 10.6%.\nWas there a common denominator for all of these vaccine stocks? Increasing fears about the delta variant likely played a role to some extent. However, each company also had good news of its own.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nNovavax announced on Wednesday that the European Commission agreed to purchase up to 200 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine NVX-CoV2373. The deal includes an initial order of up to 100 million doses with an option to buy an additional 100 million doses through 2023.\nHowever, Novavax provided its second-quarter update following the market close on Thursday. The company now expects to file for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2021 instead of in the third quarter. Its shares gave up some of the week's gains in after-hours trading.\nBioNTech and its partner Pfizer benefited from a report that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will likely approve their COVID-19 vaccine by early September. The New York Times stated that the expected FDA approval could spur more vaccine mandates by employers.\nModerna announced on Tuesday that it had received FDA Fast Track Designation for its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate mRNA-1345. The company also reported strong second-quarter results on Thursday and projected vaccine sales of $20 billion for the full year.\nDynavax reported positive Q2 results on Wednesday. The company's revenue of $52.8 million blew past the consensus estimate of $41.6 million.\nSo what\nNovavax had the biggest news of these vaccine makers. The company's European deal could generate a hefty amount of additional revenue over the next couple of years.\nOf the two companies reporting quarterly results, Dynavax delivered the greater upside surprise. Its Heplisav-B hepatitis B vaccine raked in $13.7 million in sales, the highest quarterly figure so far.\nModerna also beat expectations with Q2 revenue of $4.4 billion. Arguably the most important update from the company, though, was that it has already secured supply deals for 2022 totaling $12 billion plus options for another $8 billion.\nThe report about a potential quick FDA approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine lit a fire beneath BioNTech stock.
