Fool","summary":"Planning your actions ahead of market crashes makes following through easier.","content":"
Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU) and Chewy (NYSE:CHWY) are two excellent companies growing revenue and customers rapidly. Investors have noticed, and their stock prices are up 289% and 154%, respectively, over the last three years.
\n
One way you can get into these stocks at better prices would be during a stock market crash. Admittedly, it can be difficult to be a buyer when you see the market selling off. That's why it pays to look into companies you are interested in buying and put them on your list so that you can be ready to make the buy when the event occurs.
\n
Here are a few features of each stock that make these two companies attractive investments in the long run.
\n
Data source: YCharts
\n
1. Roku
\n
Roku is benefiting from the long-run secular trend where consumers are switching from linear TV to streaming viewership. The rate of the shift may fluctuate but it's unlikely to change direction. According to Roku management, eventually, content will be 100% streaming. Indeed, here is what founder and CEO Anthony Wood said in its most recent conference call:
\n
\n But I think the big picture for me is that we're still in the middle of this transition where viewers, advertisers, and the industry is moving 100% to streaming. We're just not there yet, but it's moving and it's happening. If you look, one stat I think that's interesting from Nielsen is that if you look at 18 to 45-year-olds, 39% of their TV watching is streaming.\n
\n
Roku has accumulated 55.1 million accounts, a 28% increase from the second quarter of last year. Undoubtedly, the pandemic helped accelerate customer acquisition. Folks were limited in entertainment options when ballparks, concerts, restaurants, and movie theaters were all shut down for most of the previous year.
\n
The company's operating system is reliable and fast. That's led many original equipment manufacturers to build TVs with Roku's operating system natively installed. Roku is the No. 1 TV operating system in the U.S. and Canada, and it's well on its way to international expansion.
\n
\n
2. Chewy
\n
Chewy is an exclusively online pet retailer. The company boasts 19.8 million active customers, 31.8% more than it had last year. The pandemic caused millions of pet parents to look for new options to fulfill their pet's everyday needs. Some may never return to shopping in brick-and-mortar stores. One reason is that Chewy offers customers automatic delivery of their pet's food and medicine.
\n
Indeed, in its most recent quarter, 69.3% of overall sales were through automatic delivery, or what Chewy calls Autoship. It makes people's lives easier as it is one less thing they need to remember. Chewy even offers a small discount on orders placed through Autoship. The company is piggybacking off the long-run spending moving online from retail locations.
\n
Revenue is growing rapidly, and Chewy is doing it efficiently. Its gross profit margin expanded from 16.6% in 2016 to 25.5% in 2021.
\n
Investor takeaway
\n
Roku and Chewy are doing an excellent job capturing their respective markets and solving a problem for their customers. Streaming content costs less, and viewers get liberated from lengthy cable contracts. Investors have noticed, and their stock prices are up 289% and 154%, respectively, over the last three years.\nOne way you can get into these stocks at better prices would be during a stock market crash. Admittedly, it can be difficult to be a buyer when you see the market selling off. That's why it pays to look into companies you are interested in buying and put them on your list so that you can be ready to make the buy when the event occurs.\nHere are a few features of each stock that make these two companies attractive investments in the long run.\nData source: YCharts\n1. Roku\nRoku is benefiting from the long-run secular trend where consumers are switching from linear TV to streaming viewership. The rate of the shift may fluctuate but it's unlikely to change direction. According to Roku management, eventually, content will be 100% streaming. Indeed, here is what founder and CEO Anthony Wood said in its most recent conference call:\n\n But I think the big picture for me is that we're still in the middle of this transition where viewers, advertisers, and the industry is moving 100% to streaming. We're just not there yet, but it's moving and it's happening. If you look, one stat I think that's interesting from Nielsen is that if you look at 18 to 45-year-olds, 39% of their TV watching is streaming.\n\nRoku has accumulated 55.1 million accounts, a 28% increase from the second quarter of last year. Undoubtedly, the pandemic helped accelerate customer acquisition. Folks were limited in entertainment options when ballparks, concerts, restaurants, and movie theaters were all shut down for most of the previous year.\nThe company's operating system is reliable and fast. That's led many original equipment manufacturers to build TVs with Roku's operating system natively installed. Roku is the No. 1 TV operating system in the U.S. and Canada, and it's well on its way to international expansion.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n2. Chewy\nChewy is an exclusively online pet retailer. The company boasts 19.8 million active customers, 31.8% more than it had last year. The pandemic caused millions of pet parents to look for new options to fulfill their pet's everyday needs. Some may never return to shopping in brick-and-mortar stores. One reason is that Chewy offers customers automatic delivery of their pet's food and medicine.\nIndeed, in its most recent quarter, 69.3% of overall sales were through automatic delivery, or what Chewy calls Autoship. It makes people's lives easier as it is one less thing they need to remember. Chewy even offers a small discount on orders placed through Autoship. The company is piggybacking off the long-run spending moving online from retail locations.\nRevenue is growing rapidly, and Chewy is doing it efficiently. Its gross profit margin expanded from 16.6% in 2016 to 25.5% in 2021.\nInvestor takeaway\nRoku and Chewy are doing an excellent job capturing their respective markets and solving a problem for their customers. Streaming content costs less, and viewers get liberated from lengthy cable contracts. Chewy gives pet parents the peace of mind to know food and medicine can be delivered automatically.\nThe one hesitation investors could have with these two companies is their relatively rich valuations. Putting these stocks on your watch list and waiting for a market correction to buy could minimize that hesitation.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":340,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":892841187,"gmtCreate":1628650409649,"gmtModify":1676529809311,"author":{"id":"4088434082181330","authorId":"4088434082181330","name":"Sherminxm","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a48bc204d5fc6b3e0603c2faf13a5f90","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088434082181330","authorIdStr":"4088434082181330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Woo","listText":"Woo","text":"Woo","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/892841187","repostId":"807413879","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":807413879,"gmtCreate":1628049192591,"gmtModify":1703500274182,"author":{"id":"4088434082181330","authorId":"4088434082181330","name":"Sherminxm","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a48bc204d5fc6b3e0603c2faf13a5f90","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088434082181330","authorIdStr":"4088434082181330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Sell Treasuries and trust the expansion.","content":"
We think that this economic cycle will be normal, strong and short. Each of these assumptions is being hotly debated by the market. Each is key to our investment strategy.
\n
The debate over cycle 'normalcy' is self-explanatory. The pandemic created, without exaggeration, the single sharpest decline in output in recorded history. Then activity raced back, helped by policy support. The case for viewing this situation as unique, and distinct from other cyclical experiences, is based on the view that a fall and rise this violent never allowed for a traditional 'reset'.
\n
But 'normal' in markets is a funny concept, with the rough edges of memory often smoothed and polished by the passage of time. The cycle of 2003-07 ended with the largest banking and housing crisis since the Great Depression. The cycle of 1992-2000 ended with the bursting of an enormous equity bubble, widespread accounting fraud and unspeakable tragedy. 'Normal' cycles are nice in theory, harder in practice.
\n
Instead, let’s consider why we use the term ‘cycle’ at all. Economies and markets tend to follow cyclical patterns, patterns that tend to show up in market performance. It is those patterns we care about, and if they still apply, they can provide a useful guide in uncertain terrain.
\n
Was last year’s recession preceded by late-cycle conditions such as an inverted yield curve, low volatility, low unemployment, high consumer confidence and narrowing equity market breadth? It was. Did the resulting troughs in equities, credit, yields and yield curves match the usual cadence between market and economic lows? They did. And were the leaders of the ensuing rally the usual early-cycle winners, like small and cyclical stocks, high yield credit and industrial metals? They were.
\n
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, we think that it’s a normal cycle. Or as normal as these things realistically are. If a lot of 'normal' cycle behavior has played out so far, it should continue to do so.
\n
Specifically, this relates to patterns of performance as the market recovers. And as that recovery advances, those patterns should shift. As noted by my colleague Michael Wilson, we think that we are moving to a mid-cycle market, despite being just 16 months removed from the lows of economic activity. We see a number of similarities between current conditions and 1H04, a mid-cycle period that followed a large, reflationary rally. And importantly, despite recent fears about growth, we think that the global recovery will keep pushing on (see The Growth Scare Anniversary, July 11, 2021).
\n
Because one can always find an indicator that fits their particular cycle view, we’ve long been fans of a composite. That’s our ‘cycle model’, which combines ten US metrics across macro, the credit cycle and corporate aggression to gauge where we are in the market cycle. After moving into late-cycle ‘downturn’ in June 2019, and early-cycle ‘repair’ in April 2020, it’s rocketed higher. It has risen so fast that it’s blown right past what should be the next phase ('recovery'), and moved right into ‘expansion’.
\n
Thisis unusual. ‘Expansion’ is meant to capture conditions that are 'better than normal, and improving',and since 1980, it has taken an average of 35 months to get there after 'downturn' ends. Its speedy arrival speaks to a speedy recovery powered by enormous policy support. It also hints at another possibility: this hotter cycle could be shorter. This is our thesis, and it’s showing up in our quantitative measure.
\n
All this has a number of implications:
\n
\n
The shorter the cycle, the worse for credit relative to other risky assets; credit enjoys fewer of the gains from the 'boom', is exposed if the next downturn is early, and faces more supply as corporate confidence increases. In the ‘expansion’ phase of our cycle model, US IG and HY credit N12M excess returns are 29bp and 161bp worse than average, respectively.
\n
In many of those periods, more mixed credit performance occurs despite default rates remaining low. Investors should try to take default risk over spread risk: our credit strategists like owning CDX HY 0-15%, and hedging with CDX IG payer spreads.
\n
In equities, we think that our model supports more balance in portfolios. We like healthcare in both the US and Europe as a sector with several nice factor exposures: quality, low valuation, high carry and low volatility. Globally, equities in Europe and Japan have tended to outperform 'mid-cycle', and we think that they can do so again.
\n
Interest rates are too pessimistic on the recovery. US 10-year Treasury N12M returns are 97bp worse than average during the ‘expansion’ phase of our cycle model. Guneet Dhingra and our US interest rate strategy team have moved underweight US 10-year Treasuries, and we in turn have moved back underweight government bonds in our global asset allocation.
\n
\n
This cycle is unusual. Most 'normal' cycles are. We think that the recovery is sustainable and more likely to be ‘hotter and shorter’. Its speedy arrival speaks to a speedy recovery powered by enormous policy support. It also hints at another possibility: this hotter cycle could be shorter. This is our thesis, and it’s showing up in our quantitative measure.\nAll this has a number of implications:\n\nThe shorter the cycle, the worse for credit relative to other risky assets; credit enjoys fewer of the gains from the 'boom', is exposed if the next downturn is early, and faces more supply as corporate confidence increases. In the ‘expansion’ phase of our cycle model, US IG and HY credit N12M excess returns are 29bp and 161bp worse than average, respectively.\nIn many of those periods, more mixed credit performance occurs despite default rates remaining low. Investors should try to take default risk over spread risk: our credit strategists like owning CDX HY 0-15%, and hedging with CDX IG payer spreads.\nIn equities, we think that our model supports more balance in portfolios. We like healthcare in both the US and Europe as a sector with several nice factor exposures: quality, low valuation, high carry and low volatility. Globally, equities in Europe and Japan have tended to outperform 'mid-cycle', and we think that they can do so again.\nInterest rates are too pessimistic on the recovery. US 10-year Treasury N12M returns are 97bp worse than average during the ‘expansion’ phase of our cycle model. Guneet Dhingra and our US interest rate strategy team have moved underweight US 10-year Treasuries, and we in turn have moved back underweight government bonds in our global asset allocation.\n\nThis cycle is unusual. Most 'normal' cycles are. We think that the recovery is sustainable and more likely to be ‘hotter and shorter’. Sell Treasuries and trust the expansion.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":153,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":144457341,"gmtCreate":1626311685383,"gmtModify":1703757594392,"author":{"id":"4088434082181330","authorId":"4088434082181330","name":"Sherminxm","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a48bc204d5fc6b3e0603c2faf13a5f90","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088434082181330","authorIdStr":"4088434082181330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$MICRO-MECHANICS (HOLDINGS) LTD(5DD.SI)$Woooo","listText":"$MICRO-MECHANICS (HOLDINGS) LTD(5DD.SI)$Woooo","text":"$MICRO-MECHANICS (HOLDINGS) LTD(5DD.SI)$Woooo","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7baf546e17480383ecbbff681b18b51e","width":"1125","height":"1949"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/144457341","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":132,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":145276039,"gmtCreate":1626227799721,"gmtModify":1703755905636,"author":{"id":"4088434082181330","authorId":"4088434082181330","name":"Sherminxm","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a48bc204d5fc6b3e0603c2faf13a5f90","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088434082181330","authorIdStr":"4088434082181330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh wow","listText":"Oh wow","text":"Oh wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/145276039","repostId":"1111418784","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1111418784","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1626183009,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1111418784?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-13 21:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow retreats slightly from record as hot inflation report overshadows strong earnings","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1111418784","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Stocks fell slightly on Tuesday after a hotter-than-expected inflation report overshadowed a strong ","content":"
Stocks fell slightly on Tuesday after a hotter-than-expected inflation report overshadowed a strong start to second-quarter earnings season.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial average shed 20 points, or 0.1%.
The S&P(SP500) -1.3%, Nasdaq(COMP.IND) -1.5% and Dow Jones(DJI) -1.2% are all sharply lower.
\n
The S&P has finished down more than 1% just once since the start of June.
\n
A big factor in what stocks are reacting to is the quick plunge in Treasury yields, with the curve flattening.
\n
They are down again this morning, although off lows, with the 10-year Traesury yield(NYSEARCA:TBT)(NASDAQ:TLT) down 3 basis points to 1.29% and touching levels last seen in February.
\n
The consensus from Wall Street has been for higher yields, with the median forecast at 1.75% for the end of 2021. That's catching a lot of traders who are short bonds flat-footed in what is known as a \"pain trade.\"
\n
One theory for the decline in yields is that investors areworried about economic growth arriving weaker than expected, especially withincreasing COVID Delta variant cases, which would hurt value and cyclical stocks.
\n
Mixed economic data, especially a bigger-than-expected drop in the ISM services index this week, added to the downward momentum on yields.
\n
\"The market is sort of taking a deep breath,\" said Subadra Rajappa, head of U.S. rates strategy at Société Générale. \"Are those optimistic forecasts (for economic growth and inflation) actually achievable?\"
\n
\"The (stock) market is great, the question is where's the leadership, what wins the market, because the market still wants to go up and to the right,\" Credit Suisse equity strategist Jonathan Golub said on Bloomberg.
\n
China's regulatory actions are also causing market jitters after its crackdown on DiDi. Chinese companies are slumping early andMorgan Stanley says Tesla will likley feel effects as well.
\n
Another explation for the yield tumble is that that traders think the Fed is making a mistake in pulling ahead rate hike expectations, which could stifle the recovery.
\n
A similar situation happened in late 2018 and the Fed ultimately reversed policy.
\n
But Jemore Schneider, PIMCO head of short-term portfolio management, told Bloomberg the rate trend is still up, which would bode well for recovery stocks.
\n
\"We are of the bias that this is a steepening trend propeled by higher growth over that medium term,\" Schneider said.
\n
\"It all comes down to inflation expectations, and if those expectations are quenched by a more responsive Fed\" that would push asset tapering into the spotlight \"then you can actually see a rally on the back of the curve,\" he added.
\n
\"But ultimately over time this is a growth story, a recovery story that will lead to higher rates.\"
\n
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That's catching a lot of traders who are short bonds flat-footed in what is known as a \"pain trade.\"\nOne theory for the decline in yields is that investors areworried about economic growth arriving weaker than expected, especially withincreasing COVID Delta variant cases, which would hurt value and cyclical stocks.\nMixed economic data, especially a bigger-than-expected drop in the ISM services index this week, added to the downward momentum on yields.\n\"The market is sort of taking a deep breath,\" said Subadra Rajappa, head of U.S. rates strategy at Société Générale. \"Are those optimistic forecasts (for economic growth and inflation) actually achievable?\"\n\"The (stock) market is great, the question is where's the leadership, what wins the market, because the market still wants to go up and to the right,\" Credit Suisse equity strategist Jonathan Golub said on Bloomberg.\nChina's regulatory actions are also causing market jitters after its crackdown on DiDi. Chinese companies are slumping early andMorgan Stanley says Tesla will likley feel effects as well.\nAnother explation for the yield tumble is that that traders think the Fed is making a mistake in pulling ahead rate hike expectations, which could stifle the recovery.\nA similar situation happened in late 2018 and the Fed ultimately reversed policy.\nBut Jemore Schneider, PIMCO head of short-term portfolio management, told Bloomberg the rate trend is still up, which would bode well for recovery stocks.\n\"We are of the bias that this is a steepening trend propeled by higher growth over that medium term,\" Schneider said.\n\"It all comes down to inflation expectations, and if those expectations are quenched by a more responsive Fed\" that would push asset tapering into the spotlight \"then you can actually see a rally on the back of the curve,\" he added.\n\"But ultimately over time this is a growth story, a recovery story that will lead to higher rates.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":177,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":149795959,"gmtCreate":1625747622371,"gmtModify":1703747671207,"author":{"id":"4088434082181330","authorId":"4088434082181330","name":"Sherminxm","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a48bc204d5fc6b3e0603c2faf13a5f90","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088434082181330","authorIdStr":"4088434082181330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/149795959","repostId":"2149346693","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2149346693","pubTimestamp":1625747340,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2149346693?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-08 20:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"BOJ seen cutting this year's growth forecast as COVID-19 curbs hurt outlook - sources","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2149346693","media":"StreetInsider","summary":"TOKYO (Reuters) - The Bank of Japan is expected to slash this fiscal year's economic growth forecast","content":"
TOKYO (Reuters) - The Bank of Japan is expected to slash this fiscal year's economic growth forecast in fresh quarterly projections due out next week, sources say, as prospects of another state of emergency for Tokyo threaten to dent consumption.
\n
But the central bank is likely to maintain its view the world's third-largest economy is headed for a moderate recovery as robust exports and output offset some of the weakness in consumer demand, said four sources familiar with its thinking.
\n
The expected downgrade highlights Japan's struggle to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, as slow vaccine rollouts and a resurgence in infections force authorities to declare a state of emergency for Tokyo just 16 days before the Olympic Games begin.
\n
\"The foundations of a recovery are in place, but the timing may be delayed somewhat,\" as the curbs weigh on the economy's expected rebound in the current quarter, one of the sources said, a view echoed by three other sources.
\n
In most recent forecasts made in April, the BOJ expected the economy to expand 4.0% in the current fiscal year ending in March 2022, higher than a 3.6% growth projected in a Reuters poll.
\n
At its July 15-16 policy meeting, the BOJ will likely cut the current year's growth forecast in fresh quarterly and inflation projections, the sources said. The measure closed at a record just below 35,000 the day prior. The S&P 500 lost 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite also fell 0.1%.
\n
Inflation rose at its fastest pace in nearly 13 years, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. The consumer price index increased 5.4% from a year ago; economists surveyed by Dow Jones expected a 5% gain. Core CPI, excluding food and energy, jumped 4.5%, the sharpest move for that measure since September 1991 and well above the estimate of 3.8%.
\n
\"A white-hot June CPI print has the markets jittery this morning,\" Cliff Hodge, CIO at Cornerstone Wealth, said. \"Moving forward we expect these inflation numbers to begin to cool. Used car prices soared 45% year over year which is not likely to persist in coming months.\"
\n
The10-year U.S. Treasury yield edged slightly higher following the CPI report.
\n
The latest inflation data came after big banks and PepsiCo posted blowout second-quarter earnings reports beating Wall Street estimates. But with stocks at record highs and the Dow Jones Industrial Average just shy of 35,000, expectations likely ran higher than the official estimates reflected.
\n
JPMorgan Chase shares dipped in the premarket even after posting second-quarter earningsof $11.9 billion, or $3.78 per share, which exceeded the $3.21 estimate of analysts surveyed by Refinitiv.
\n
Banks set aside billions of dollars for loan losses amid the pandemic, but have been releasing those reserves as consumers performed better than expected. JPMorgan released $3 billion in loan loss reserves after taking just $734 million in charge-offs. That gave the firm a $2.3 billion benefit, allowing the bank to top earnings expectations. Investors may be giving less credit to JPMorgan's earnings beat due to this loan loss reserve release.
\n
Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs shared edged about 1% higher in premarket trading. The firm reported second-quarter earnings of $15.02 per share, topping analysts' expectation of $10.24 earnings per share. The bank posted its second-best ever quarterly investment banking revenue as a rush of IPOs hit Wall Street last quarter.
\n
PepsiCo also crushed estimates for its second-quarter earnings and revenue, fueled by returning restaurant demand. The drink and snack giant also raised its forecast. Shares added more than 1% in premarket trading.
\n
Overall earnings reports are expected to be stellar for the second quarter over the coming weeks with profit growth estimated at 64% year-over-year for the quarter, according to FactSet. That would be the biggest quarterly profit increase since 2009.
\n
Banks' earnings are expected to more than double for the second quarter, with an estimated 119.5% estimated year-over-year growth rate, according to analysts polled by FactSet.
\n
In the regular trading session on Monday theDowrose 126.02 points to close just below 35,000. Good First-Half Performance A Bullish Second-Half Indicator
\n
Historically, when the S&P 500 has an above-average first-half return, it follows up with an above-average second-half return 77% of the time, Suttmeier said.
\n
The S&P 500 has averaged a 6.3% second-half return following a strong first-half, well above its 1.7% average second-half return in years with below-average first-half returns. The average peak-to-trough S&P 500 second-half drawdown following above-average first halves is -6.6% compared to an average drawdown of 10% after a below-average first half.
\n
2. First Year Of Presidential Cycle Bodes Well For Returns
\n
Historically, the second half of the first year under a new U.S. president has been underwhelming, generating an average return of just 1%. However, years in which the market performs well in the first half under a new president have produced an average return of 5.9% in the second half of the year.
\n
Following an above average first-half during year one of a presidential cycle, 67% of second-half drawdowns are in the 0% to 5% range and 78% of drawdowns were less than 10%.
\n
3. Strong First Halves Good News In Bull Markets
\n
During a secular bull market, the S&P 500 has averaged a 9.1% second-half return following an above-average first-half return. In these years, the S&P 500 has generated a positive second-half return 86% of the time. In addition, the S&P has only experienced one historical second-half drawdown of at least 20% in these years, the Crash of 1987.
\n
Benzinga’s Take:Looking back at market history can help investors keep things in perspective and provide some helpful insight into market tendencies. Unfortunately, past performance is not necessarily indicative of the future, and there are countless variables impacting U.S. markets in the near term.
","source":"lsy1606299360108","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons To Stay Bullish On Stocks In The Second Half Of 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons To Stay Bullish On Stocks In The Second Half Of 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-08 15:20 GMT+8 Benzinga\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The SPDR S&P 500 ETF(NYSE:SPY) is now up nearly 95% from its March 2020 lows, and it’s understandable why some investors may be getting a bit uneasy about the big run after the S&P 500 tacked on ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SPY":"标普500ETF"},"source_url":"https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/21/07/21881688/3-reasons-to-stay-bullish-on-stocks-in-the-second-half-of-2021","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1192592169","content_text":"The SPDR S&P 500 ETF(NYSE:SPY) is now up nearly 95% from its March 2020 lows, and it’s understandable why some investors may be getting a bit uneasy about the big run after the S&P 500 tacked on another 14.4% gain in the first half of 2021.\nBank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier took a look back at the S&P 500’s historical performance and found at least three reasons history suggests investors should still feel comfortable buying stocks heading into the second half of the year.\n1.
