On the week, shares surged an eye-popping 179%.The wild upward price action occurred after Bed Bath & Beyond didn't utter the world \"bankruptcy\" on its otherwise brutal Tuesday morning earnings release. The lack of a bankruptcy announcement seemed to embolden bulls in the stock, causing bears — specifically short-sellers — to quickly cover their shorts, only creating more upward momentum in the stock. Then, on Friday, the New York Times reported that retail-focused private equity shop Sycamore Partners was kicking the tires on buying parts of the near-death home goods seller.\"As is our practice, we do not comment on speculation of this nature,\" a Bed Bath & Beyond spokesperson told Yahoo Finance via email. In any case, to Chukumba's point, investors who drill down into Bed Bath & Beyond's fundamentals with their evaluation tools of choice would find that the numbers clearly do not justify a 135% stock gain in a week.\"The fact that the stock is up since they reported earnings is nonsensical, in a word, quite frankly,\" Chukumba added. \"When they file [for bankruptcy], the equity will be worthless.\"A painful lesson will be learned by some if that happens.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BBBY":0.6}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9956195064,"gmtCreate":1673923065658,"gmtModify":1676538903722,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4097058432007810","authorIdStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good ","listText":"Good ","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9956195064","repostId":"2303589533","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1295,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9956192728,"gmtCreate":1673923044265,"gmtModify":1676538903722,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4097058432007810","authorIdStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9956192728","repostId":"1193780453","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193780453","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1673914673,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1193780453?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-01-17 08:17","market":"sh","language":"en","title":"EVs Made Up 10% of All New Cars Sold Last Year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193780453","media":"The Wall Street Journal","summary":"Electric-vehicle sales crossed a global milestone last year, achieving around 10% market share for t","content":"
\n
Electric-vehicle sales crossed a global milestone last year, achieving around 10% market share for the first time, driven mainly by strong growth in China and Europe, according to fresh data and ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"wsj_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The surge in EV sales also contrasted with the broader car market that suffered from economic worries, inflation and production disruptions.Global sales of fully electric vehicles totaled around 7.8 million units, an increase of as much as 68% from the previous year, according to preliminary research from LMC Automotive and EV-Volumes.com, research groups that track automotive sales.Ralf Brandstätter, the head of Volkswagen AG’s China business, told reporters on Friday that electric vehicles would continue expanding fast and that China could soon reach a point where sales of conventional vehicles begin to permanently decline as plug-in vehicles take bigger market share.“Last year, every fourth vehicle we sold in China was a plug-in, and this year it will be every third auto,” Mr. Brandstätter said. “We haven’t reached the tipping point yet, but we’re expecting to get there between 2025 and 2030.”For the full year, fully electric vehicles accounted for 11% of total car sales in Europe and 19% in China, according to LMC Automotive. Combined with plug-in hybrid vehicles, which can be plugged in to recharge the battery but also have a small combustion engine, the share of electric vehicles sold in Europe rose to 20.3% of the total last year, according to EV-Volumes.com.The U.S. lags behind China and Europe in the rollout of EVs, but last year auto makers sold 807,180 fully electric vehicles in the U.S., a rise in the share of all-electric vehicles to 5.8% of all vehicles sold from 3.2% the year before. Tesla is still the world’s dominant EV maker, but conventional auto makers are shortening its lead with new electric-model launches. In Germany, the largest auto market in Europe, electric vehicles accounted for 25% of new vehicle production last year, according to VDA, the German automotive manufacturers association. In December, there were more EVs sold in the country than conventional cars.New-car sales overall fell around 1% to 80.6 million vehicles, according to the LMC data, with nearly 4% growth in China helping to offset a decline of 8% in the U.S. and 7% in Europe, which was hit by the weakening global economy, soaring energy costs, supply-chain disruptions and the war in Ukraine.Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the German luxury-car maker, was one of many manufacturers last year to see sales of plug-in models rise even as overall sales tumbled. BMW reported a 5% decline in total new-car sales but saw EV sales more than double last year.“We are confident that we can repeat this success next year, because we have a continued high order backlog for fully electric models,” BMW sales chief Pieter Nota, said this month, commenting on the growth in sales of electric models.VW, Europe’s biggest manufacturer by sales, said on Thursday that overall new-car sales fell 7% to 8.3 million vehicles last year, but sales of electric vehicles rose 26% to 572,100 units. The sales figures encompass the company’s large stable of brands, including VW, sports-car maker Porsche, luxury-car brand Audi and passenger-car brands Skoda and Seat. The bulk of VW’s sales of EVs were in Europe, but sales growth was strongest in China and the U.S., the company said.Other manufacturers reported a similar divide of strong growth in sales of electric cars—boosted in part by the availability of a wider array of models in addition to market leader Tesla Inc.—and weak or declining sales of conventional vehicles. Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz Group AG and BMW each said their EV sales more than doubled in 2022, while their total vehicle sales declined.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":687,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9956192417,"gmtCreate":1673923009439,"gmtModify":1676538903715,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4097058432007810","authorIdStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9956192417","repostId":"2304536064","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":877,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9992074534,"gmtCreate":1661235078331,"gmtModify":1676536480561,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Society Pass Inc.(SOPA)$Good news buy","listText":"$Society Pass Inc.(SOPA)$Good news buy","text":"$Society Pass Inc.(SOPA)$Good news buy","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/c0f95a9e44d5ef93e5de5c40669fb1a9","width":"1242","height":"2448"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9992074534","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":902,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9941593724,"gmtCreate":1680360296568,"gmtModify":1680360300781,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"😍👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽","listText":"😍👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽","text":"😍👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":13,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9941593724","repostId":"1108517622","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1108517622","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1680342165,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1108517622?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-04-01 17:42","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"NIO Delivers 10,378 Vehicles in March 2023","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108517622","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March 2023NIO delivered 31,041 vehicles in the three months ended M","content":"

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March 2023

NIO delivered 31,041 vehicles in the three months ended March 2023, increasing by 20.5% year-over-year

Cumulative deliveries of NIO vehicles reached 320,597 as of March 31, 2023

NIO Inc. A big part of Berkshire's outperformance is thanks to its large equities portfolio now valued at more than $322 billion, where Buffett and his investing team buy and sell individual stocks. When choosing individual stocks, retail investors can learn a lot from the Oracle of Omaha's investing strategy. They should take Warren Buffett's advice and buy stocks with these three attributes.Image source: The Motley Fool.1. Consistent performanceThe first thing Buffett looks for is whether or not the company he is interested in has a solid track record when it comes to financial performance. One of the ways Buffett evaluates this is through return on shareholder equity (ROE), which is defined as net income divided by equity, and profit margins, which looks at how much of a company's revenue becomes profit. The goal is not to find a company that can generate a strong ROE or profit margin once, but one that can do it over and over and through a variety of different economic environments. For instance, one of Berkshire Hathaway's largest holdings, the credit card and payments firm American Express, has generated above a 12% ROE for the last decade, and many times that ROE was 25% or above. Meanwhile, Apple, which is by far Berkshire's largest holding in its portfolio, has had over a 20% profit margin since 2010.2. ValuationBuffett has been a great value investor over the years; he purchases stocks trading below their intrinsic value that the market has either ignored or perhaps doesn't understand, but that will trade up to or above their intrinsic value over time. Now, there is a method to the madness, and Buffett and Berkshire do not simply look for stocks trading at bargain valuations. As Buffett once wrote in a letter to shareholders, \"It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price.\"That means don't let valuation blind you. If something is trading at a huge discount to its book value, there is likely a good reason for the discount. Instead, it's a better idea to find a company that is great and that you can buy at a fair valuation, which will serve you better long term. One example is Bank of America, the second-largest holding in Berkshire's portfolio. Bank of America currently trades at about 160% of its tangible book value, which is hardly a discounted bank stock valuation, especially in today's market. But Bank of America is now the second-largest bank by assets in the U.S., is highly profitable, and has developed a strong moat with its deposit and lending franchise. Long term, Buffett believes this is still a very fair valuation at which to own the stock.3. An impenetrable brandAnother theme you will see among many of Berkshire's holdings is incredibly strong brand power. Think Apple and Coca-Cola. Now, why does Buffett like strong brands? It's not because of the funny commercials. The real reason is that strong brands provide these companies with a tremendous amount of pricing power. This comes in handy in times of high inflation like the one we are in today. Even though Apple's or Coca-Cola's cost of doing business has gone up, their strong brands allow them to raise the prices of their products without too much pushback from consumers.Think about the iPhone and what a big part of people's lives it has become. If the price of an iPhone goes up $100, most consumers are still going to buy it anyway, especially if they've been with the brand for a while. And how many times have you heard somebody say they will never drink Pepsi over Coke?Even if Pepsi happens to be cheaper, odds are that if a person has a choice between the two, they are still likely going to pick Coke. Companies with this kind of branding power can be great long-term stocks to own.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AXP":0.9,"AAPL":0.9,"KO":0.9,"PEP":0.82,"BAC":0.9,"BRK.B":0.9,"BRK.A":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":535,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9967290546,"gmtCreate":1670330330486,"gmtModify":1676538345193,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2222885292","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"The March jobs report takes center stage this week. The Labor Department’s monthly snapshot of U.S. ","content":"

The March jobs report takes center stage this week. The Labor Department’s monthly snapshot of U.S. employment will be closely watched by market participants and will carry special weight as Federal Reserve officials appear to signal more hawkishness in the central bank’s rate-hiking plans. Meanwhile, Core PCE, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, is also due out Wednesday and will offer further clues on how aggressive the next interest rate bump could be.

Despite a streak of seesaw action, markets have mostly fared well since the Fed raised interest rates by 25 basis points on March 16 in the first hike since 2018. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq Composite, and S&P 500 each registered their second straight week of gains on Friday to close at one-month highs.

Still, questions remain around the central bank’s path forward and investors are watching closely to see whether the ramp up in short-term rates that is underway will blunt the market’s gains.

The latest jobs report due out Friday comes as traders are braced for the likelihood that Fed officials may lean into higher borrowing costs more aggressively than anticipated after recent remarks from Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicating “ongoing rate increases will be appropriate” to lower inflation readings. If Friday’s employment data shows a tighter-than-ever labor market, policymakers could be even more inclined to move ahead with a 50-basis point hike.

“The payroll jobs report could be the biggest one yet in this recovery from the pandemic,” FWDBONDS chief economist Christopher Rupkey said in a recent note. “Federal Reserve officials are already chomping at the bit for bigger 50 bps rate hikes at upcoming meetings, and the tightest labor market since the 1960s is like pouring gasoline on the fire where any policy official worth his or her salt is burning with desire to get interest rates up to 2% neutral levels now.”

All things suggest a jaw-dropping jobs report. Last week, U.S. jobless claims notched the lowest level since September 1969 at 187,000 filings. Moreover, the most recent employment report blew past what economists had estimated, posting a stunning 687,000 jobs added or created during the month of February. The March report is expected to show another robust reading with payrolls likely to rise by 490,000, according to Bloomberg economist estimates.

This labor market tightness has strongly informed the Fed’s decision to rein in monetary policy, with economic momentum suggesting to officials that the U.S. economy could weather less accommodative financial conditions.

“The Federal Reserve has a dual mandate to promote employment and stable prices,” Bankrate senior industry analyst Ted Rossman said in a note. “The strong labor market is leading the Fed to focus squarely on combating the high inflation rate. Fed Chair Jerome Powell recently hinted at a more aggressive pace of rate hikes, and this report fits that narrative since inflation is a much bigger concern than unemployment right now.”

While an improving labor market is good for U.S. households, widespread job openings have made room for significant leverage for workers, driving wage gains higher and further elevating inflationary pressures.

To add to that, Bank of America pointed out that amid the labor market recovery is a higher level of job openings for any given unemployment rate than compared to prior history. As a result, the short-run inflation neutral unemployment rate (NAIRU) may be higher than longer-run estimates, implying more sustained wage and price pressures in the near-term, according to the bank.

The Labor Department's JOLTs (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary) for February will be released Tuesday with analysts, according to Bloomberg consensus, expecting vacancies of 11 million, similar to January's results.

“The pandemic labor market has seen an extraordinary outward shift in the Beveridge curve (the relationship between unemployment and the job vacancy rate), suggesting difficulty in matching workers to jobs,” BofA economists said in a recent note. “This mismatch may reflect surging goods spending and hence a shortage of workers in the hottest part of the economy.”

Fed's measure of inflation

Also on the inflation front, the Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to release a fresh read on its monthly personal consumption expenditures (PCE) deflator this Thursday. The measure is another gauge of how quickly prices are increasing across the country. Consensus economists expect the PCE to post a rise of another 0.6% in February, according to Bloomberg data, This would mark the 15th consecutive monthly increase and bring the index up by 6.4% on a year-over-year basis.

The core PCE index, which the Fed uses to conduct monetary policy, is also expected to show an increase when the print publishes Wednesday. Consensus economists are looking for a 5.5% increase in core PCE in February, compared to January’s 5.2% rise.

The Fed's already arduous task of mitigating inflation without stunting economic growth is further complicated by geopolitical turmoil in Eastern Europe. War in Ukraine and penalizing sanctions against Russia for its invasion of the country have raised uncertainty in recent weeks over the conflict’s toll on the global economic picture and potential spillover consequences for the U.S. Namely, rising oil prices have elevated inflation expectations. WTI crude oil futures snapped a two-week losing streak to round out the week 8.8% higher at $113.90 per barrel as of Friday's close.

OPEC+ (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting on March 31 with Russia and its nine other allies to discuss May production levels. The intergovernmental organization is expected to maintain current production plans, even as crude oil prices trade at a 14-year high.

“The Fed seems to be the only central bank still focused on increasing its hawkishness” amid higher energy prices and inflation," Charles Schwab Chief Global Investment Strategist Jeffrey Kleintop told Yahoo Finance Live. “It’s noteworthy.”

Consumer confidence

As inflation worries mount, consumers are getting wary about what's ahead. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index due for release on Tuesday will show a timely snapshot of their thinking following the latest spike in prices. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg are looking for the index to fall to 107.0 for March following a read of 110.5 last month.

Last week's further decline in the University of Michigan's final consumer sentiment index for March, which fell to 59.4 from a preliminary reading of 59.7 and 62.8 in the prior month, is an indication of consumers' changing attitude about their economic future. The survey saw more consumers report reduced living standards due to rising inflation than any other time except during the two worst recessions in the past 50 years: from March 1979 to April 1981, and from May to October 2008, the University of Michigan said.

"Usually consumers fret about job opportunities and the lack thereof, but this time, the consumer is in sync with Fed officials that the greatest danger the economy faces is inflation," Rupkey said in recent commentary. "Consumers continue to spend, but future consumption is very much in doubt as the cost of store bought goods soars ever higher."

"We have rarely seen consumers this pessimistic outside of the darkest days of recessions, but the polling indicates the public is more scared about their economic future than they have been in years," he wrote. "Everyone get out of the way because if the consumer stops, then the economy drops and it will be a miracle if the economy can avoid a shipwreck on the shores of recession."

Earnings season has winded down — though the next quarterly read (representing the first three months of 2022) will be underway soon. A few reports are in the queue to trickle in on Friday, with names including Jefferies Financial , Chewy , Lululemon , and others.

Economic calendar

Monday: Advance Goods Trade Balance, February (-$106.3 billion expected, -$107.6 billion during prior month); The March report is expected to show another robust reading with payrolls likely to rise by 490,000, according to Bloomberg economist estimates. This labor market tightness has strongly informed the Fed’s decision to rein in monetary policy, with economic momentum suggesting to officials that the U.S. economy could weather less accommodative financial conditions.“The Federal Reserve has a dual mandate to promote employment and stable prices,” Bankrate senior industry analyst Ted Rossman said in a note. “The strong labor market is leading the Fed to focus squarely on combating the high inflation rate. Fed Chair Jerome Powell recently hinted at a more aggressive pace of rate hikes, and this report fits that narrative since inflation is a much bigger concern than unemployment right now.”While an improving labor market is good for U.S. households, widespread job openings have made room for significant leverage for workers, driving wage gains higher and further elevating inflationary pressures. The Labor Department's JOLTs (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary) for February will be released Tuesday with analysts, according to Bloomberg consensus, expecting vacancies of 11 million, similar to January's results.“The pandemic labor market has seen an extraordinary outward shift in the Beveridge curve (the relationship between unemployment and the job vacancy rate), suggesting difficulty in matching workers to jobs,” BofA economists said in a recent note. “This mismatch may reflect surging goods spending and hence a shortage of workers in the hottest part of the economy.”Fed's measure of inflationAlso on the inflation front, the Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to release a fresh read on its monthly personal consumption expenditures (PCE) deflator this Thursday. WTI crude oil futures snapped a two-week losing streak to round out the week 8.8% higher at $113.90 per barrel as of Friday's close.OPEC+ (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting on March 31 with Russia and its nine other allies to discuss May production levels. The intergovernmental organization is expected to maintain current production plans, even as crude oil prices trade at a 14-year high.“The Fed seems to be the only central bank still focused on increasing its hawkishness” amid higher energy prices and inflation,\" Charles Schwab Chief Global Investment Strategist Jeffrey Kleintop told Yahoo Finance Live. “It’s noteworthy.”Consumer confidenceAs inflation worries mount, consumers are getting wary about what's ahead. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index due for release on Tuesday will show a timely snapshot of their thinking following the latest spike in prices. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg are looking for the index to fall to 107.0 for March following a read of 110.5 last month.Last week's further decline in the University of Michigan's final consumer sentiment index for March, which fell to 59.4 from a preliminary reading of 59.7 and 62.8 in the prior month, is an indication of consumers' changing attitude about their economic future. The survey saw more consumers report reduced living standards due to rising inflation than any other time except during the two worst recessions in the past 50 years: from March 1979 to April 1981, and from May to October 2008, the University of Michigan said.\"Usually consumers fret about job opportunities and the lack thereof, but this time, the consumer is in sync with Fed officials that the greatest danger the economy faces is inflation,\" Rupkey said in recent commentary. \"Consumers continue to spend, but future consumption is very much in doubt as the cost of store bought goods soars ever higher.\"\"We have rarely seen consumers this pessimistic outside of the darkest days of recessions, but the polling indicates the public is more scared about their economic future than they have been in years,\" he wrote. \"Everyone get out of the way because if the consumer stops, then the economy drops and it will be a miracle if the economy can avoid a shipwreck on the shores of recession.\"Earnings season has winded down — though the next quarterly read (representing the first three months of 2022) will be underway soon. A few reports are in the queue to trickle in on Friday, with names including Jefferies Financial , Chewy , Lululemon , and others.Economic calendarMonday: Advance Goods Trade Balance, February (-$106.3 billion expected, -$107.6 billion during prior month); Easing US inflation expectations has prompted funds to ditch the ultimate haven asset, triggering a rebound in most major currencies.“Just two weeks into the year, and it feels like the big ‘buy dollar’ trade of 2022 is turning into the hottest macro short now,” said Patrick Bennett, strategist at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Hong Kong. In addition to the Fed, “we are also being driven by a reversal in China with Zero Covid scrapped well ahead of when it was expected.”The dollar’s fortunes have suffered a dramatic U-turn in recent months as funds from JPMorgan Asset Management to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. predict the Fed will soon rein in the pace of its tightening. Traders are now expecting the Fed fund rate to peak at 4.94% from more than 5% earlier this month. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index dropped as much as 0.4% to reach the lowest since April 2022 early on Monday, before clawing back losses to trade 0.1% higher on the day. Yet more selling may be in store this year, with strategists at Morgan Stanley forecasting the euro to end the year at 1.15, ratcheting up its previous call for 1.08.“Macro forces once constraining USD weakness are now amplifying it,” they wrote in a note. “Global growth is showing signs of buoyancy, macro and inflation uncertainty are waning, and the USD is rapidly losing its carry advantage.”The greenback’s decline comes as data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission show leveraged funds have cut yen shorts to the lowest level since February 2021. They also trimmed bearish bets on the Aussie while switching to net longs on the New Zealand dollar.Fed PauseThe resumption of economic activity in China is bolstering demand for risk-sensitive currencies, with the Australian dollar rising above 70 US cents for the first time since August on Monday. Indonesia’s rupiah climbed more than 1%, the South Korean won advanced 0.8% and the offshore yuan rose to the strongest since July.“The dollar is under pressure as the market becomes more confident a Fed pause is coming,” said Rodrigo Catril, strategist at National Australia Bank Ltd. in Sydney. The rise of the yuan is “just as important” for commodity-linked currencies like the Australian dollar as risk sentiment improves, he said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GDUmain":0.9,"USDindexmain":0.9,"UDN":0.9,"UUP":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":558,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9080171279,"gmtCreate":1649861669497,"gmtModify":1676534592661,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$keep waiting ","listText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$keep waiting ","text":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$keep waiting","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/181457dcf5909bd5e8f80ecc0c97a6b7","width":"1242","height":"2448"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9080171279","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":688,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9032752839,"gmtCreate":1647452754344,"gmtModify":1676534231706,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hopefully they will come to a conclusion ","listText":"Hopefully they will come to a conclusion ","text":"Hopefully they will come to a conclusion","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9032752839","repostId":"1189260494","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1189260494","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1647441827,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1189260494?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-16 22:43","market":"other","language":"en","title":"Ukraine and Russia Draw up Neutrality Plan to End War","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1189260494","media":"Financial Times","summary":"Ukraine and Russia have made significant progress on a tentative 15-point peace plan including a cea","content":"
\n
Ukraine and Russia have made significant progress on a tentative 15-point peace plan including a ceasefire and Russian withdrawal if Kyiv declares neutrality and accepts limits on its armed forces, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1580170736413","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; A 1994 agreement underpinning Ukrainian security failed to prevent Russian aggression against its neighbour.Although Moscow and Kyiv both said on Wednesday that they had made progress on the terms of a deal, Ukrainian officials remain sceptical Russian President Vladimir Putin is fully committed to peace and worry that Moscow could be buying time to regroup its forces and resume its offensive.Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, told the Financial Times that any deal would involve “the troops of the Russian Federation in any case leaving the territory of Ukraine” captured since the invasion began on February 24 — namely southern regions along the Azov and Black Seas, as well as territory to the east and north of Kyiv.Ukraine would maintain its armed forces but would be obliged to stay outside military alliances such as Nato and refrain from hosting foreign military bases on its territory.Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that neutrality for Ukraine based on the status of Austria or Sweden was a possibility.“This option is really being discussed now, and is one that can be considered neutral,” said Peskov.Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, said that “absolutely specific wordings” were “close to being agreed” in the negotiations.Despite the progress in peace talks, Ukrainian cities came under heavy shelling for a third consecutive night while Kyiv said it was launching a counter-offensive against Russian invaders. In a virtual address to members of Congress on Wednesday, Zelensky pleaded for the US to enforce a no-fly zone or provide fighter jets or other means to fend off Russia’s attack on his country, and impose harsher economic sanctions on Moscow. In a dramatic appeal, Zelensky said Ukraine needed America’s support after Russia had launched a “brutal offensive against our values”. He called on Americans to remember the attacks on Pearl Harbor and of September 2001 and showed a searing video of the missile attacks and shelling destroying Ukrainian cities.Though Ukraine’s constitution commits it to seeking membership of Nato, Zelensky and his aides have increasingly played down Ukraine’s chances of joining the transatlantic military alliance, a prospect that Russia sees as a provocation.“There is no effective system of European security now, which would be moderated by Nato. As soon as a serious war began in Europe, Nato quickly stepped aside,” Podolyak said.“We propose a ‘Ukrainian model of security guarantees,’ which implies the immediate and legally verified participation of a number of guarantor countries in the conflict on the side of Ukraine, if someone again encroaches on its territorial integrity,” he added.Ukraine, Podolyak added, would as part of any deal “definitely retain its own army”. He also played down the significance of a ban on foreign bases in Ukraine, saying that was already precluded by Ukrainian law.Two of the people said the putative deal also included provisions on enshrining rights for the Russian language in Ukraine, where it is widely spoken though Ukrainian is the only official language. Russia has framed its invasion as an attempt to protect Russian speakers in Ukraine from what it claims is “genocide” by “neo-Nazis”.Podolyak said “humanitarian issues, including language issues, are discussed only through the prism of Ukraine’s exclusive interests”.The biggest sticking point remains Russia’s demand that Ukraine recognise its 2014 annexation of Crimea and the independence of two separatist statelets in the eastern Donbas border region.Ukraine has so far refused but is willing to compartmentalise the issue, Podolyak said.“Disputed and conflict territories [are] in a separate case. So far, we are talking about a guaranteed withdrawal from the territories that have been occupied since the start of the military operation on February 24,” when Russia’s invasion began, he said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":636,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3555261138218608","authorId":"3555261138218608","name":"fabio","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8da22244b65eeb511fac3b0633934760","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3555261138218608","idStr":"3555261138218608"},"content":"Same here. In June, Bitcoin recorded a price of over $26,000; and August was the last time it rose above $25,000.At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $19,318, up close to two percent in the last seven days.\"Looking forward to October, the average return for October is 28.42%, which would take the Bitcoin price up to about $25,000 – $26,000. So, we'll see if it goes there. Twenty-five thousand dollars is where we were not too long ago, and we could easily get back to that level,\" he said.James has also said that October has offered the third-highest average monthly returns.\"Let's look at how October benchmarks against other months in the history of Bitcoin. Here you can see September is red August is like breakeven. But October is the third-best month historically. And that's why many people refer to it as Uptober.\"Last week, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Rostin Behnam said that regulations could benefit the crypto industry, including a potential boost to the price of Bitcoin.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":709,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9998248157,"gmtCreate":1661012750681,"gmtModify":1676536439078,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok 👍🏽","listText":"Ok 👍🏽","text":"Ok 👍🏽","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9998248157","repostId":"2260126340","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2260126340","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1660962485,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2260126340?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-20 10:28","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Layoff Stocks That You Might Not Want to Lay Off From Buying Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2260126340","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"A lot of surprising companies are paring back their payrolls lately. Market darlings that seemed to have clear runways for years of growth have announced layoffs. Rightsizing your workforce is never a good look. It does quite the number on corporate morale, too. However, it doesn't mean that you should \"lay off\" the stocks.Shopify, Wayfair, and Netflix have all stunned the market by announcing plans to eliminate personnel. It doesn't mean that the stocks are toast. Shopify, Wayfair, and Netflix are leaders in their respective niches. Let's see why they could be potential buy candidates here.Image source: Getty Images.1. ShopifyThere was a time when the shares of companies announcing layoffs would move higher, as the market would be relieved to see the top brass take action to get costs under control. Things didn't play out that way when Shopify announced that it would be cutting 10% of its staff late last month, as the stock took a 14% hit that day alone.Shopify has proven mortal. The stock is now trading 80% below the all-time high it hit just nine months ago. The company's initial pandemic projections that years of heady growth were coming had it invest aggressively in building out its offerings. The deceleration has been rough. Revenue rose a mere 16% in its latest report, well short of analyst expectations. Gross merchandise volume rose a mere 11%.Business has slowed, and that makes the stock's valuation -- despite trading for just a fifth of its November peak -- a sticking point with some value-minded investors. But Shopify has carved out a lucrative niche in the realm of online commerce. It's empowering merchants, and that's a long-term approach to success.2. WayfairThe latest one-time highflier to pull on the recliner handle is Wayfair. The online furniture retailer revealed in a regulatory filing on Friday morning that it's reducing its workforce by 870 employees. It had announced plans to realign investment priorities and manage its operating expense earlier, but now it's real. The layoffs cover 5% of its global workforce and 10% of its corporate team.Wayfair became one of the market's biggest winners during the early stages of the pandemic, as local showrooms weren't open and folks wanted to hunker down at home with refreshed furnishings. Revenue growth would spike from 35% in 2019 to 55% in 2020, only to post negative revenue growth last year. The company has now rattled off five consecutive quarters of double-digit-percentage declines on the top line. It's not as devastating as it might seem. Revenue did clock in 15% lower in its latest quarter than it did a year earlier, and 24% below where it was two years ago when the country's initial shutdown sent folks scrambling for e-commerce solutions. However, Wayfair's sales are still 40% higher than they were three years ago.The slowdown is natural after all of the binge buying of home essentials through early 2021, but when we need new furniture, it's a safe bet that Wayfair will be a top consideration. Adjusting its workforce will help tackle its lack of profitability.3. NetflixIt's not just the master chefs on some of the cooking shows you see on Netflix doing a lot of cutting these days. Netflix has had at least two rounds of small layoffs in May and June, shortly after stunning investors by reporting a sequential decline in global paid subscribers for the first quarter. The climate is kinder now. It lost less than half as many subscribers as it initially forecast for the second quarter, and Netflix is projecting a return to sequential subscriber growth for the current quarter. Netflix is also working on new initiatives that include gaming, theatrical releases for high-profile flicks, and rolling out a more economical ad-supported tier. With more than 220 million paid accounts worldwide -- and now growing -- it's easy to believe that the worst is over for the top dog of streaming-service stocks.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"W":0.9,"SHOP":0.9,"NFLX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":882,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9092909734,"gmtCreate":1644503032167,"gmtModify":1676533934195,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"7 POINTSThe broad-based S&P 500 produced its worst first-half return in 52 years.Rather than being chased to the sideline, billionaire investors have stood their ground and put their money to work. These seven stocks have been the apple of select billionaires' eyes.Although you probably don't need the reminder, it's been a rough year on Wall Street. The benchmark S&P 500 produced its worst first-half return since 1970. Meanwhile, the growth-centric Nasdaq Composite plunged 34% on a peak-to-trough basis since hitting its all-time closing high in November. Everything from weak economic growth and historically high inflation to Russia's invasion of Ukraine further upsetting the global energy supply chain has contributed to this challenging year.Yet, in spite of the stock market plunging throughout much of the year, billionaire investors have stood their ground. Billionaire money managers are well aware that every notable pullback in the market has proved to be a buying opportunity over the long run.Based on recent 13F filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, it's become clear that billionaire fund managers have been buyers as the market plunges. Here's what seven prominent billionaires have been buying.1. Paul Singer: PayPal HoldingsBillionaire activist investor Paul Singer of Elliott Investment Management has been a busy bee in 2022. Most notably, he's taken a roughly $2 billion stake in fintech stock PayPal Holdings (PYPL), which was disclosed by PayPal in its second-quarter earnings release. What's interesting about this position is that Singer often invests in struggling companies. Although PayPal's share price has taken a big hit as pandemic-related valuations deflate, PayPal's operating performance shows a company that's clearly not hurting. Even with U.S. gross domestic product falling in back-to-back quarters, PayPal has maintained double-digit total payment volume growth on a constant-currency basis.More importantly, user engagement hasn't slowed down. When 2020 came to a close, the average active account completed just shy of 41 transactions over the trailing year. As of June 30, 2022, this average active account hadcompleted nearly 49 transactions over the trailing 12 months. With engagement trends headed in the right direction and digital payment growth still in its very early innings, I'd be surprised if Singer's investment ultimately ended up in the red.2. Philippe Laffont: Upstart HoldingsPhilippe Laffont may not be a household name among billionaire money managers, but he successfully oversees Coatue Management, a hedge fund with almost $8.3 billion in assets under management. In the latest quarter, Laffont added almost $75 million in shares of cloud-based lending platform Upstart Holdings (UPST).Upstart aims to completely turn the traditional loan-vetting process on its head. It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to completely automate and approve about three-quarters of all loans processed. Not only is this saving the roughly six dozen financial institutions Upstart is partnered with time and money, but it's giving loan applicants who might otherwise be denied through the traditional vetting process an opportunity. Upstart-vetted loans have produced similar loan delinquency rates as traditional loans, despite a lower average credit score for Upstart-approved applicants. The other lure for Upstart is its potential for expansion. Until last year, Upstart almost exclusively focused on personal loans. With the company now expanding into auto loans and small business loans, its addressable market has increased tenfold.3. Warren Buffett: Occidental PetroleumThe Oracle of Omaha, who's been CEO of Berkshire Hathaway since 1965, probably needs no introduction. Among the16 stocks Warren Buffett has purchased this year, none has raised more eyebrows than oil stock Occidental Petroleum. Berkshire has acquired nearly 188.4 million shares of Occidental this year, as of Aug. 8.Why Occidental Petroleum? The best guess is that Buffett strongly believes crude oil and natural gas prices will remain elevated for years to come. This is a forecast that can certainly be supported by reduced capital investments in the wake of the pandemic, as well as Russia's aforementioned invasion of Ukraine. With no quick fixes to global supply woes, oil and natural gas could very easily support above-average spot prices for years. But what makes Occidental such an odd Buffett stockis its balance sheet. The Oracle of Omaha normally buys stakes in businesses with strong brand names, exceptional leadership, and rock-solid balance sheets. Occidental is more highly levered than most integrated oil and gas companies. In other words, this is a riskier investment than we're used to seeing from Buffett.4. Steve Cohen: CrowdStrike HoldingsBillionaire Steve Cohen, who's known just as much for owning baseball's New York Mets as he is for running Point72 Asset Management, has been an active buyer of cybersecurity stock CrowdStrike Holdings as the market plunges. Cohen's fund bought close to 820,000 shares of CrowdStrike during the second quarter.Aside from the fact that cybersecurity solutions have evolved into a basic necessity service in any economic environment, what allows CrowdStrike to stand out is its AI-driven Falcon platform. Falcon oversees about 1 trillion events daily and has proved superior to the on-premises competition at identifying and responding to potential threats.Although CrowdStrike has had no trouble growing its subscriber base over the years, what's far more impressive is how the company has been able to encourage existing clients to spend more. A little over five years ago, just 9% of the company's clients had purchased four or more cloud-module subscriptions. As of the end of April 2022, 71% of existing clients had purchased four or more cloud-module subscriptions. This is CrowdStrike's not-so-subtle key to superior operating margins and its amazing revenue retention rate.5. Jim Simons: ShopifyBillionaire Jim Simons of Renaissance Technologies has thousands upon thousands of positions. However, cloud-based e-commerce platform Shopify (SHOP 0.93%) became one of Renaissance's largest positions during the second quarter, with a greater than 14-million-share aggregate buy.Despite shares coming under heavy selling pressure due to the company's nosebleed valuation and recent weakness in retail sales as a whole, Shopify looks like a giant in the making. Aided by the pandemic, the gross merchandise value transacted on Shopify's platforms (as of the June-ended quarter) has grown by an annual average of 50% over the past three years. What's more, the company believes it has a $153 billion addressable market just with small businesses. This doesn't even factor in the inroads the company has made with larger companies.Innovation should also be key for Shopify's long-term outlook. The introduction of Shop Pay, a buy now, pay later service designed to help merchants serve more customers, should benefit nicely during long-winded periods of economic expansion.6. Ray Dalio: CVS HealthBridgewater Associates' billionaire money manager Ray Dalio has also been an active buyer. Dalio chose to pile into CVS Health (CVS -0.66%) as the market plunged. Bridgewater bought close to 1.94 million shares during the second quarter, which increased the fund's stake by 159% from the March-ended quarter. The beauty of healthcare stocks is that they're defensive. People can't control when they get sick, which means there's always demand for prescription drugs, medical devices, and healthcare services. On a more company-specific basis, CVS Health has benefited from its vertical integration. Its acquisition of health insurer Aetna in 2018 lifted its organic growth rate, provided ample cost synergies, and gave more than 20 million insured Aetna members a reason to stay within the CVS Health network.Additionally, CVS has been reaping the rewards of its HealthHUB health clinics. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have demonstrated they're eager for quick solutions to minor illnesses and injuries, as well as supplemental care for chronic conditions. The roughly 1,500 HealthHUBs CVS operates are facilitating these interactions, which have the potential to boost customer loyalty and drive repeat visits.7. Jeff Yass: AmazonLast but not least, billionaire Jeff Yass of Susquehanna International has been buying FAANG stock Amazon as the market plunges. Susquehanna added close to 6.6 million shares of Amazon during the second quarter, which increased its stake to approximately 15.2 million shares.Although Amazon is best known for its dominant online marketplace, which is estimated to bring in 40% of U.S. retail sales in 2022, per eMarketer, it's the company's considerably higher-margin ancillary operations that make it such an ideal buy.For instance, Amazon's online marketplace has helped attract more than 200 million global Prime subscribers. With almost $35 billion in annual run-rate sales from subscription services, Amazon is able to divert plenty of capital to its fast-growing logistics network and other supercharged growth projects. However, Amazon's future is undeniably linked to cloud infrastructure segment Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS brought in 31% of cloud spending during the second quarter, according to estimates from Canalys. More importantly, AWS is responsible for generating the bulk of Amazon's operating cash flow despite accounting for just a sixth of the company's net sales. As AWS grows into a larger percentage of total sales, Amazon's cash flow can soar.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"OXY":0.9,"AMZN":0.9,"PYPL":0.9,"CRWD":0.9,"SHOP":0.9,"CVS":0.9,"UPST":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":537,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9998434875,"gmtCreate":1661046176900,"gmtModify":1676536443401,"author":{"id":"4097058432007810","authorId":"4097058432007810","name":"Shahfarid","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1f2b82742973385f8cc959480d03504d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4097058432007810","idStr":"4097058432007810"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok 👍🏽 ","listText":"Ok 👍🏽 ","text":"Ok 👍🏽","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9998434875","repostId":"1124277975","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1124277975","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1661042160,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1124277975?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-21 08:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Could Warren Buffett really buy Occidental Petroleum?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1124277975","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"Friday's news that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) won approval from U","content":"

Friday's news that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) won approval from U.S. regulators to buy as much as 50% of Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) has sparked speculation that Buffettmight eventually acquire the whole company.

"No question Buffett goes to 50% from here," said Bill Smead of Smead Capital Management and a shareholder in both Occidental (OXY) and Berkshire (BRK.A) (BRK.B), adding that the moves are looking more and more like 2009-10 when Buffett amassed a significant stake in Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad before buying the entire company.

"It is likely that Buffett will buy the whole thing eventually," University of Maryland finance professor David Kass told CNBC.
