After shares were under pressure already last year, on the back of self-inflicted issues with the company lagging development trajectories of its peers, shares have come under further pressure as the sector at large has seen a big pullback this year, and certainly in recent months.</p><p>In February of this year, I last looked at Intel as it acquired smaller peer Tower Semiconductor, a strategic deal for the company to regain some competitiveness from its self-inflicted wounds. This came as the company has been lagging in terms of development, losing market share to the likes of <b>Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)</b>, and others.</p><p><b>Some Background</b></p><p>Intel&#39;s woes really started in the summer of 2020 as the company announced a 6-month delay in its 7nm product transition, then seen late in 2022 or early in 2023, creating a real opportunity for AMD to gain market share. Consequently, Pat Gelsinger was hired in 2021 in an attempt to revamp the business.</p><p>With lags in the product development hurting future results, 2020 numbers were still solid with revenues posted at $77.9 billion on which the company earned $5.30 per share (on an adjusted basis). Shares rallied to $70 in April 2021 on the back of the 2020 results and hope for a turnaround, as well as runaway market conditions.</p><p>With shares falling to $50 in the summer, I was becoming slowly upbeat at 10 times earnings, at a time when market valuations (and certainly technology valuations) were increasing rapidly, as there were no quick fixes in sight.</p><p>The company has seen huge developments on the corporate front, announcing huge capital investments into the US under the &#34;CHIPS&#34; act, and later in the year the company announced its intention to float Mobileye. The company hoped to fetch $50 billion, but these are just hopes as the company sold its NAND and SSD business in a $7 billion deal to SK hynix as well.</p><p>As it turned out, 2021 sales actually rose a percent to $79.0 billion, as adjusted earnings of $4.86 per share were down eight cents, still coming in at $19.9 billion in actual dollar terms. Net debt fell to $3 billion (including equity investments as holdings), much needed given the upcoming and continued capital spending requirements and the fact that 2022 results were seen at much lower numbers, with first quarter earnings seen around $0.80 per share.</p><p>With shares falling to the $40s earlier this year, I found the set-up not that impressive, but compelling enough to buy the dip in the shares a bit more.</p><p><b>Ouch!</b></p><p>Since February, shares have fallen from levels around the $40 mark to a low of $25 which is a very painful correction, but actually marks a bit of an  outperformance to many peers. In March of this year, Intel announced another mega project, earmarking EUR17 billion for a new leading-edge semiconductor mega site in Germany.</p><p>In April, Intel posted a 7% fall in first quarter sales to $18.4 billion as adjusted earnings fell to $0.87 per share, a bit higher than initially guided for, yet still down 35% year-over-year. Second quarter sales were seen around $18.0 billion with adjusted earnings seen down to $0.70 per share, with full year earnings now seen around $3.60 per share on $76 billion in sales. Cash flow conversion is problematic with capital spending seen at $27 billion in 2022.</p><p>Fortunately, net cash was posted at $7.4 billion, that is if we treat $6 billion in equity investments as cash alike investments. This strong balance sheet is needed to turn around the business as full year capital spending of $27 billion exceeded the run rate in depreciation charges of $11 billion by some $16 billion here. These net capital investments will actually exceed the anticipated (adjusted) earnings of around $15 billion this year.</p><p>A poor competitive position and softer chip market was really seen in the second quarter as revenuesfell22% to $15.3 billion, as adjusted earnings fell to just $0.29 per share, with GAAP losses posted at $0.11 per share. Right now, weakness in the key client computing group was also seen in the data center group. The company guided for flattish results (on a sequential basis) in the third quarter, but only sees full year sales at $65-$68 billion, adjusted earnings of $2.30 per share, while the company cut capital spending to $23 billion. Right now, the company already incurred a modest net debt load following net capital spending requirements, dividend payouts and earnings being pressured.</p><p>Despite the market woes, or better said terrible market conditions for IPOs, Intel seems to proceed with its plans to list Mobileye, as it has filed its registration statement early in October. While a $50 billion deal is not expected, we have to recognize that the market value of Intel itself has shrunken to just around $100 billion here, but the question is what valuations will look like for the unit.</p><p>With a near $2 billion run rate in very profitable revenues, Mobileye is responsible for just a fraction of Intel&#39;s revenues, giving it likely an outsized valuation here in relation to its revenue contribution. This is furthermore very welcomed given the billions needed to be spent on the business at large. Filing papers suggest that Mobileye is targeted to be listed around $30 billion valuation, equal to about $7.50 per share, after Intel bought the business in a $15 billion deal in 2017. Quite frankly, I have some doubts if this valuation can be achieved.</p><p><b>And Now?</b></p><p>The truth is that earnings are non-existing right now, and with many peers announcing profit warnings virtually every day, one should not have high hopes for the third quarter, with further weakness likely seen. Hence, there are many moving factors, yet fortunately the balance sheet is quite strong and Intel still has Mobileye to be monetized. This is badly needed with earnings power being quite limited, while Intel remains committed to its $6 billion annual dividend, and net capital investments remained elevated.</p><p>Given the warnings posted by AMD and others, I see a real possibility for third quarter sales to fall to let&#39;s say $12-$14 billion, instead of the anticipated flattish sequential revenue numbers. The only benefit is that Intel has not been a big crypto benefit like AMD, or <b>NVIDIA (NVDA)</b>for that matter, making the pullback likely less painful now.</p><p>This and the implicit backing of the US government, given the heightened political tension around chips, is welcome but cannot overcome the weakness in its product development, which is clearly there. With better run chip names having seen a big, or even bigger pullback in recent times, I am adding across the sector here. Net debt fell to $3 billion (including equity investments as holdings), much needed given the upcoming and continued capital spending requirements and the fact that 2022 results were seen at much lower numbers, with first quarter earnings seen around $0.80 per share.With shares falling to the $40s earlier this year, I found the set-up not that impressive, but compelling enough to buy the dip in the shares a bit more.Ouch!Since February, shares have fallen from levels around the $40 mark to a low of $25 which is a very painful correction, but actually marks a bit of an  outperformance to many peers. In March of this year, Intel announced another mega project, earmarking EUR17 billion for a new leading-edge semiconductor mega site in Germany.In April, Intel posted a 7% fall in first quarter sales to $18.4 billion as adjusted earnings fell to $0.87 per share, a bit higher than initially guided for, yet still down 35% year-over-year. Second quarter sales were seen around $18.0 billion with adjusted earnings seen down to $0.70 per share, with full year earnings now seen around $3.60 per share on $76 billion in sales. Cash flow conversion is problematic with capital spending seen at $27 billion in 2022.Fortunately, net cash was posted at $7.4 billion, that is if we treat $6 billion in equity investments as cash alike investments. This strong balance sheet is needed to turn around the business as full year capital spending of $27 billion exceeded the run rate in depreciation charges of $11 billion by some $16 billion here. These net capital investments will actually exceed the anticipated (adjusted) earnings of around $15 billion this year.A poor competitive position and softer chip market was really seen in the second quarter as revenuesfell22% to $15.3 billion, as adjusted earnings fell to just $0.29 per share, with GAAP losses posted at $0.11 per share. Right now, weakness in the key client computing group was also seen in the data center group. The company guided for flattish results (on a sequential basis) in the third quarter, but only sees full year sales at $65-$68 billion, adjusted earnings of $2.30 per share, while the company cut capital spending to $23 billion. Right now, the company already incurred a modest net debt load following net capital spending requirements, dividend payouts and earnings being pressured.Despite the market woes, or better said terrible market conditions for IPOs, Intel seems to proceed with its plans to list Mobileye, as it has filed its registration statement early in October. While a $50 billion deal is not expected, we have to recognize that the market value of Intel itself has shrunken to just around $100 billion here, but the question is what valuations will look like for the unit.With a near $2 billion run rate in very profitable revenues, Mobileye is responsible for just a fraction of Intel's revenues, giving it likely an outsized valuation here in relation to its revenue contribution. This is furthermore very welcomed given the billions needed to be spent on the business at large. Filing papers suggest that Mobileye is targeted to be listed around $30 billion valuation, equal to about $7.50 per share, after Intel bought the business in a $15 billion deal in 2017. Quite frankly, I have some doubts if this valuation can be achieved.And Now?The truth is that earnings are non-existing right now, and with many peers announcing profit warnings virtually every day, one should not have high hopes for the third quarter, with further weakness likely seen. Hence, there are many moving factors, yet fortunately the balance sheet is quite strong and Intel still has Mobileye to be monetized. This is badly needed with earnings power being quite limited, while Intel remains committed to its $6 billion annual dividend, and net capital investments remained elevated.Given the warnings posted by AMD and others, I see a real possibility for third quarter sales to fall to let's say $12-$14 billion, instead of the anticipated flattish sequential revenue numbers. The only benefit is that Intel has not been a big crypto benefit like AMD, or NVIDIA (NVDA)for that matter, making the pullback likely less painful now.This and the implicit backing of the US government, given the heightened political tension around chips, is welcome but cannot overcome the weakness in its product development, which is clearly there. With better run chip names having seen a big, or even bigger pullback in recent times, I am adding across the sector here. In that article, I argued that the huge amount of data both existing and massively accumulating, is to artificial intelligence like raw meat is to a lion. If AI is indeed about data then something has to feed it, just like the lion. That something is Palantir.</p><p>In this article, I will attempt to define PLTR as an operating system sitting on top of a user&#39;s various and sundry systems in order to easily access and order myriad data sources quickly and legibly.</p><p>Here are four ways PLTR resembles Microsoft (MSFT) the most famous and successful operating system developer in history.</p><p><b>1. Palantir sits on top of other systems just like Windows does.</b></p><p>What do operating systems do? They sit on top of everything else including data, software, operations, etc. They manage everything underneath them so nothing gets out of control. In my estimation, the best, most descriptive name for an operating system is one I worked on decades ago: Master Control Program {MCP} from Unisys (see here). In fact, the name is so good it has been borrowed by the hugely successful Tron game (see here).</p><p>That&#39;s what Gotham and Foundry do: they control what&#39;s beneath them, mainly huge amounts of uncorrelated data from various and sundry sources. They then use those results to feed the huge, voracious maw of AI.</p><p>Think about Windows for example.</p><p>Under Windows, you could convert a PDF file to a Word document, the Word document to text, the text file to Excel, and the Excel file into PowerPoint or SQL Server.</p><p>Multiply the complexity of the data sources and endpoints by about 1,000 times and you have what Palantir does. But still, it is about mastering control and that&#39;s what operating systems do.</p><p><b>2. Gotham and Foundry are not the end but only the beginning.</b></p><p>Many years ago I bought an IBM PC with a 5MB (yep, MB not GB or TB) hard drive for a client to run his payroll on. It was running MS-DOS and Microsoft basic.</p><p>Fast forward 30 some years later and we now have Microsoft Azure running every imaginable application for every imaginable customer on the cloud. And little old MS-DOS is now Office 365 many times connected to Windows Server.</p><p>The point here is there is much more to come from PLTR in future years other than Gotham and Foundry. I am certain those new applications are in process as we speak.</p><p>Where exactly will PLTR&#39;s systems be in 5, 10, or 20 years? I certainly don&#39;t know but I am willing to bet (by owning the stock) it will more than likely resemble Microsoft&#39;s historic path than say Oracle&#39;s.</p><p><b>Per Palantir&#39;s COO Shyam Sankar:</b></p><blockquote>Of course, trillion dollar is well short of our ambition over the next 10 years. Just like Microsoft, PLTR is building for a future that is unknown on the one hand but certain in others - there will be massively more data to be analyzed and whoever does it best will be the next Microsoft.</p><p><b>3. Palantir&#39;s next 10 years could be like Microsoft&#39;s early years.</b></p><p>Since Palantir was in business for 17 years before it went public I am going to compare PLTR to MSFT beginning in 1992 about 17 years after it was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. MSFT&#39;s revenue in 1992 was about $1.5 billion close to Palantir&#39;s revenue of $1.1 billion in 2020.</p><p>Just as a curiosity, let&#39;s look at MSFT&#39;s 3, 5, and 10-year future returns based upon the billion-plus revenue of 1992.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ad5e3e0e226264cba87e4902d1143ac\" tg-width=\"647\" tg-height=\"387\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>NASDAQ and Author</span></p><p>Note Palantir was also founded by two well-known tech investors Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. A little older than Microsoft&#39;s founders and perhaps a little wiser too.</p><p>The hair is a little different but notice each picture has one guy in a sweater and one guy in a suit. That may or may not represent a strong investment correlation.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d847b9f38da7f4f2a20ae04b3be26b07\" tg-width=\"1214\" tg-height=\"612\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>The equivalent stock performance for PLTR from the initial listing date to now would be as shown below.</p><p>Some analysts say PLTR is vastly overvalued and looking at the chart below you can see the logic of that argument. Both software companies were up 400%, but one in four months and one in five years.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cf096508c2197eebaafaf7833770cb05\" tg-width=\"644\" tg-height=\"383\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>NASDAQ and author</span></p><p><b>4. SBC (Stock Based Compensation) doesn&#39;t seem to have hurt Microsoft.</b></p><p>One of the arguments Palantir critics often mention is an over-reliance on SBC driving up the PLTR share count from about 900 million in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to about two billion in the 3rd quarter of 2021.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5b22667e48e9a254fd11bd7ae4693ea1\" tg-width=\"416\" tg-height=\"251\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>Of course, those numbers do not include options provided to employees that have not been cashed in yet.</p><p>But if you look at MSFT, they have generated four billionaires and at least 12,000 millionaires.</p><blockquote>The company&#39;s 1986initial public offering(IPO), and subsequent rise in its share price, created three billionaires and an estimated 12,000 millionaires among Microsoft employees.</blockquote><p>Source:Wikipedia</p><p>Add Steve Ballmer&#39;s $120 billion to the billionaire&#39;s list(see here)although he came to the party later. I am sure Steve had a ton ofSBC.</p><p>As a comparison to MSFT&#39;s 12,000 millionaires, PLTR only has about 3,000 employees.</p><p>Since MSFT currently has a market value of $2.5 trillion versus PLTR $40 billion, it would be hard to argue that SBC will hold PLTR back long-term.</p><p><b>Conclusion:</b></p><p>Artificial Intelligence without data (lots of data) is like Artificial Flowers - pretty, but borderline useless.</p><p>That&#39;s why PLTR&#39;s current data acquisition/manipulation operating systems, Foundry and Gotham, are so important to their AI efforts. Those who have the best quality data will have the best AI.</p><p>There can be little doubt that data and its related AI will be everywhere soon, from your phone to your TV to your garage door opener.</p><p>And we are not talking about just digital data either. There will be data acquisition of voice, terrain, faxes, encrypted messages, texts, photographs, physical movements, people, and things.</p><p>How about the distance, speed, and spin of every golf stroke on the PGA Tour?</p><p>And Steph Curry&#39;s individual finger grip pressure, ball rotation, and tightness of his shoestrings on every 30-foot 3-pointer he makes?</p><p>While the current estimates for the amount of data available and captured over the next 5, 10, or 20 years are high and growing, I think it is still vastly underestimated.</p><p>That&#39;s what Palantir knows and why it is an excellent long-term investment.</p><p>Buy PLTR if you have a long-term investment plan. Enough, at least, to turn out better-than-expected sales across most of its product lines for its fiscal first quarter ended December. That helped Apple’s total revenue for the period rise 11% year over year to $123.9 billion. Analysts were expecting a gain of only 7% for the quarter. Apple’s share price rose 5% following its results Thursday afternoon.</p><p>The company conceded that it did experience supply constraints during the quarter—more so than in the previous period. But no other company in the technology hardware business has Apple’s combination of financial and operational might. Hence, the company acquired enough components to sell $71.6 billion of iPhones during the quarter—6% more than Wall Street had projected. That is up only 9% year over year, but it still represents a strong surprise given belief that the record cycle sparked by the iPhone 12 would peter out. But it still injected a note of caution, projecting a deceleration from the revenue growth seen in the most recent period. That is roughly in line with what Wall Street already expected for the quarter. If AI is indeed about data then something has to feed it, just like the lion. That something is Palantir.</p><p>In this article, I will attempt to define PLTR as an operating system sitting on top of a user&#39;s various and sundry systems in order to easily access and order myriad data sources quickly and legibly.</p><p>Here are four ways PLTR resembles Microsoft (MSFT) the most famous and successful operating system developer in history.</p><p><b>1. Palantir sits on top of other systems just like Windows does.</b></p><p>What do operating systems do? They sit on top of everything else including data, software, operations, etc. They manage everything underneath them so nothing gets out of control. In my estimation, the best, most descriptive name for an operating system is one I worked on decades ago: Master Control Program {MCP} from Unisys (see here). In fact, the name is so good it has been borrowed by the hugely successful Tron game (see here).</p><p>That&#39;s what Gotham and Foundry do: they control what&#39;s beneath them, mainly huge amounts of uncorrelated data from various and sundry sources. They then use those results to feed the huge, voracious maw of AI.</p><p>Think about Windows for example.</p><p>Under Windows, you could convert a PDF file to a Word document, the Word document to text, the text file to Excel, and the Excel file into PowerPoint or SQL Server.</p><p>Multiply the complexity of the data sources and endpoints by about 1,000 times and you have what Palantir does. But still, it is about mastering control and that&#39;s what operating systems do.</p><p><b>2. Gotham and Foundry are not the end but only the beginning.</b></p><p>Many years ago I bought an IBM PC with a 5MB (yep, MB not GB or TB) hard drive for a client to run his payroll on. It was running MS-DOS and Microsoft basic.</p><p>Fast forward 30 some years later and we now have Microsoft Azure running every imaginable application for every imaginable customer on the cloud. And little old MS-DOS is now Office 365 many times connected to Windows Server.</p><p>The point here is there is much more to come from PLTR in future years other than Gotham and Foundry. I am certain those new applications are in process as we speak.</p><p>Where exactly will PLTR&#39;s systems be in 5, 10, or 20 years? I certainly don&#39;t know but I am willing to bet (by owning the stock) it will more than likely resemble Microsoft&#39;s historic path than say Oracle&#39;s.</p><p><b>Per Palantir&#39;s COO Shyam Sankar:</b></p><blockquote>Of course, trillion dollar is well short of our ambition over the next 10 years. MSFT&#39;s revenue in 1992 was about $1.5 billion close to Palantir&#39;s revenue of $1.1 billion in 2020.</p><p>Just as a curiosity, let&#39;s look at MSFT&#39;s 3, 5, and 10-year future returns based upon the billion-plus revenue of 1992.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ad5e3e0e226264cba87e4902d1143ac\" tg-width=\"647\" tg-height=\"387\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>NASDAQ and Author</span></p><p>Note Palantir was also founded by two well-known tech investors Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. A little older than Microsoft&#39;s founders and perhaps a little wiser too.</p><p>The hair is a little different but notice each picture has one guy in a sweater and one guy in a suit. Those who have the best quality data will have the best AI.</p><p>There can be little doubt that data and its related AI will be everywhere soon, from your phone to your TV to your garage door opener.</p><p>And we are not talking about just digital data either. There will be data acquisition of voice, terrain, faxes, encrypted messages, texts, photographs, physical movements, people, and things.</p><p>How about the distance, speed, and spin of every golf stroke on the PGA Tour?</p><p>And Steph Curry&#39;s individual finger grip pressure, ball rotation, and tightness of his shoestrings on every 30-foot 3-pointer he makes?</p><p>While the current estimates for the amount of data available and captured over the next 5, 10, or 20 years are high and growing, I think it is still vastly underestimated.</p><p>That&#39;s what Palantir knows and why it is an excellent long-term investment.</p><p>Buy PLTR if you have a long-term investment plan. The Nasdaq Composite is down 1.4%.</p><p>It’s a severe reaction to the company reporting $2.54 in per-share earnings from $17.7 billion in sales for the fourth quarter. Wall Street was looking for $2.36 a share from $17.1 billion in sales. It’s the company’s fourth consecutive earnings “beat.”</p><p>Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Potter maintained his Buy rating on shares and $1,300 price target despite calling the quarter not “completely flawless.” Supply-chain problems persist, adding cost, and new product rollouts, such as Cybertruck, are happing more slowly than some expect.</p><p>Baird analyst Ben Kallo also noted supply chain headwinds in his Thursday report following earnings, but was encouraged by management’s goal to grow volumes more than 50% in 2022. That implies 2022 deliveries of 1.4 million units. Kallo also maintained his Buy rating and raised an older price target to $1,108 from $888.</p><p>Kallo had his $888 target since October. Not all analysts change estimates and targets at the same rate.</p><p>Wells Fargo analyst Colin Langan also raised his Tesla price target to $910 from $860 a share. He kept his Hold rating on Tesla stock. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday he’s confident Tesla will have truly self-driving cars by the end of 2022. Langan is skeptical. He still increased his price target because his 2022 earnings estimates went up following the quarter. Langan sees Tesla earnings $7.85 a share in 2022, up from $6.90 a share.</p><p>That’s a relatively low estimate. Overall, Wall Street expects Tesla to earn $10 a share in 2022. That estimate is up from about $8.40 a share three months ago. Rising estimates is probably the biggest factor in rising target prices. The average analyst target price for Tesla stock has risen to $967 a share from $758 a share over the past three months.</p><p>The average analyst target price is up about $13 a share after analysts digested Wednesday’s fourth-quarter earnings. The 2022 consensus earnings estimate is up about 25 cents a share in response to earnings.</p><p>Interestingly, the most bullish analysts, including Potter, don’t seem to be increasing target prices post earnings. The more bearish analysts, such as Langan, are the ones making larger adjustments.</p><p>New Street Research analyst Pierre Ferragu is a Tesla bull. He maintained his Buy rating and $1,580 price target for the stock calling the quarter a “comfortable” beat. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, another bull, also maintained his Buy rating and $1,400 price target after the quarter. He called the quarter “stellar.”</p><p>Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas didn’t appear to go as far as stellar, but still heaped praise on the company in his Wednesday report following earnings. There&#39;s still plenty of room for the company to surprise investors.</li></ul><p><b>Thesis Summary</b></p><p>Palantir’s(NYSE:PLTR)share price has fallen nearly 30% in the last six months amid a broader tech selloff. Bears have come out of the cave, with some going as far as declaring that the company is worth as little as $5 share.</p><p>Granted, the company has its problems, but it is still a pioneering company in a growing sector. Unlike the naysayers, I do believe that Palantir has a moat and I see evidence that it could achieve higher profitability as it scales.</p><p>What is Palantir’s “fair value”? Being conservative, I could go as low as $10/share, but the market won’t take it that low. At $15, this is a screaming buy due to its long-term potential. Growth in the private sector will be the definitive trend to watch for in the next decade.</p><p><b>Palantir does have a moat (for now)</b></p><p>One of the biggest areas of debate surrounding Palantir is the existence or lack of a “moat” around its business. When it comes to technology like AI, it can be hard for investors to understand just how “unique” a certain technology is.</p><p>Palantir offers Foundry for enterprises and Gotham for governments, which is an AI data analytics tool. Used in the right way and by the right people, it can be used to seamlessly sift through data and find patterns or trends that could potentially do anything from stopping a terrorist attack to optimizing supply chains.</p><p>Is this software unique? There are a lot of other companies in the lucrative space of data analytics, but few that have the capabilities of Palantir. Evidence of this, of course, is the large presence the company has achieved in the public sector. However, what is also misunderstood by many is that Palantir has amassed some of the best talent in the industry.</p><p>It is this combination of talent, which comes at the price of stock-based compensation, and a top of line software/AI, which give Palantir its moat.</p><p><b>Economies of scale are happening</b></p><p>The other main issue that people have with Palantir, is profitability. The company is losing cash every year and funding its operations through stock dilution. However, what people fail to see is that Palantir is funding growth and expansion. If the company wanted to, I believe it could indeed turn a profit as soon as next year. After all, the company has a levered FCF margin of around 35%.</p><p>But profitability isn’t what the company wants, as it is trying to grow revenues and expand. Having said that, for those that believe profitability is a pipedream, I found the most encouraging evidence of economies of scale in the latest earnings call presentation.During the Q&amp;A section, a very interesting point was made regarding the different modules that the company has been able to create for Foundry. In short, Palantir has been able to create specialized versions of Foundry which can be used for specific situations/industries. In other words, the company has been able to standardize its work to a degree. The data problems that one company faces, aren’t unique and from what I gather, Palantir can now deploy previously created modules to solve similar problems while decreasing the workload and deployment time.</p><p><b>How much is Palantir worth now and in the future?</b></p><p>With all of the above said, Palantir doesn’t seem to me like bad company. But is the valuation stretched? That depends on what multiples the market assigns, the actual growth rates, and the level of dilution we see moving forward.</p><p>In a previous article, I forecasted the revenue growth of Palantir based on current trends and estimates, and also looked at a possible trajectory for the overall share growth based on financing needs and balance sheet structure.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f751d9a2d6909956f9ca75d692d1eb3\" tg-width=\"717\" tg-height=\"261\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Growth</span></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d3c17b0966870585d0f4bc51a488ddb\" tg-width=\"728\" tg-height=\"759\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Shares</span></p><p>The projections for 2021 are on the higher side, but the growth fits the overall narrative of the company of going from a 40% growth rate to a stabilized 30% CAGR over the next decade. Also, bear in mind Palantir has typically beaten its revenue forecasts.</p><p>With this revenue and share count, we can easily calculate a target share price, all we need is to assign a P/S multiple.</p><p>In 2021, Palantir has traded at a P/S of around 20 and as high as 30. While I agree that this is on the higher end of the spectrum, it is much more reasonable than assigning a P/S of 5. I would argue the best way to find a reasonable ratio, is to find a comparable company, and I’d say Splunk Inc(NASDAQ:SPLK)is a good start. Splunk, like Palantir, is in the data business, it has similar margins and even a presence in the public sector, making it a close competitor to Palantir.</p><p>Splunk currently has a P/S of around 7.6, but it has also grown revenues at only 10% in the last year, far below Palantir’s 43% growth rate. With this in mind, I could easily justify Palantir having a P/S of 15. Even if you believe both Palantir and Splunk are due for further multiple contractions I think a P/S of 10 for Palantir is as low as the market will go. With that said, I’ll establish a price range using a P/S of 10-15 and using my forecasts for 2022 and 2025.</p><p>Therefore, my price target for 2022 based on P/S would be $11.5-$15.2. By 2025, at the same P/S, the shares would be worth between $24.6-$37. Bear in mind this implies a significant multiple contraction compared to what we have seen in 2021.</p><p><b>Other considerations</b></p><p>I think $10 is a floor that Palantir won’t break. I’d be happy to scoop up those shares at that price, and even at $15. Palantir is well-positioned for long-term growth, and it could pleasantly surprise investors, especially if it can make more inroads in the private sector. For now, indeed, unprofitable companies like Palantir are not fashionable, due to the idea that the Fed will be raising rates “soon”. This is yet to be seen.</p><p>As I’ve mentioned before, inflation will struggle to remain high while money velocity is trending lower. Could we have already seen the highest levels of inflation? Unlike the naysayers, I do believe that Palantir has a moat and I see evidence that it could achieve higher profitability as it scales.What is Palantir’s “fair value”? Being conservative, I could go as low as $10/share, but the market won’t take it that low. At $15, this is a screaming buy due to its long-term potential. Growth in the private sector will be the definitive trend to watch for in the next decade.Palantir does have a moat (for now)One of the biggest areas of debate surrounding Palantir is the existence or lack of a “moat” around its business. When it comes to technology like AI, it can be hard for investors to understand just how “unique” a certain technology is.Palantir offers Foundry for enterprises and Gotham for governments, which is an AI data analytics tool. Used in the right way and by the right people, it can be used to seamlessly sift through data and find patterns or trends that could potentially do anything from stopping a terrorist attack to optimizing supply chains.Is this software unique? There are a lot of other companies in the lucrative space of data analytics, but few that have the capabilities of Palantir. Evidence of this, of course, is the large presence the company has achieved in the public sector. However, what is also misunderstood by many is that Palantir has amassed some of the best talent in the industry.It is this combination of talent, which comes at the price of stock-based compensation, and a top of line software/AI, which give Palantir its moat.Economies of scale are happeningThe other main issue that people have with Palantir, is profitability. The company is losing cash every year and funding its operations through stock dilution. However, what people fail to see is that Palantir is funding growth and expansion. If the company wanted to, I believe it could indeed turn a profit as soon as next year. After all, the company has a levered FCF margin of around 35%.But profitability isn’t what the company wants, as it is trying to grow revenues and expand. Having said that, for those that believe profitability is a pipedream, I found the most encouraging evidence of economies of scale in the latest earnings call presentation.During the Q&A section, a very interesting point was made regarding the different modules that the company has been able to create for Foundry. In short, Palantir has been able to create specialized versions of Foundry which can be used for specific situations/industries. In other words, the company has been able to standardize its work to a degree. The data problems that one company faces, aren’t unique and from what I gather, Palantir can now deploy previously created modules to solve similar problems while decreasing the workload and deployment time.How much is Palantir worth now and in the future?With all of the above said, Palantir doesn’t seem to me like bad company. But is the valuation stretched? That depends on what multiples the market assigns, the actual growth rates, and the level of dilution we see moving forward.In a previous article, I forecasted the revenue growth of Palantir based on current trends and estimates, and also looked at a possible trajectory for the overall share growth based on financing needs and balance sheet structure.Palantir GrowthPalantir SharesThe projections for 2021 are on the higher side, but the growth fits the overall narrative of the company of going from a 40% growth rate to a stabilized 30% CAGR over the next decade. Also, bear in mind Palantir has typically beaten its revenue forecasts.With this revenue and share count, we can easily calculate a target share price, all we need is to assign a P/S multiple.In 2021, Palantir has traded at a P/S of around 20 and as high as 30. While I agree that this is on the higher end of the spectrum, it is much more reasonable than assigning a P/S of 5. I would argue the best way to find a reasonable ratio, is to find a comparable company, and I’d say Splunk Inc(NASDAQ:SPLK)is a good start. Splunk, like Palantir, is in the data business, it has similar margins and even a presence in the public sector, making it a close competitor to Palantir.Splunk currently has a P/S of around 7.6, but it has also grown revenues at only 10% in the last year, far below Palantir’s 43% growth rate. With this in mind, I could easily justify Palantir having a P/S of 15. Even if you believe both Palantir and Splunk are due for further multiple contractions I think a P/S of 10 for Palantir is as low as the market will go. With that said, I’ll establish a price range using a P/S of 10-15 and using my forecasts for 2022 and 2025.Therefore, my price target for 2022 based on P/S would be $11.5-$15.2. By 2025, at the same P/S, the shares would be worth between $24.6-$37. Bear in mind this implies a significant multiple contraction compared to what we have seen in 2021.Other considerationsI think $10 is a floor that Palantir won’t break. I’d be happy to scoop up those shares at that price, and even at $15. Palantir is well-positioned for long-term growth, and it could pleasantly surprise investors, especially if it can make more inroads in the private sector. For now, indeed, unprofitable companies like Palantir are not fashionable, due to the idea that the Fed will be raising rates “soon”. This is yet to be seen.As I’ve mentioned before, inflation will struggle to remain high while money velocity is trending lower. Could we have already seen the highest levels of inflation? However, with the shaky Chinese stock market, it is uncertain if the gains could hold and trigger a bull run for BABA.However, if we were to split up China's unrelenting COVID-19 strategies and the potential easing of big tech punishment, BABA's recovery is almost certain, given its good execution in FQ4'22. That would be one highly welcomed news, given how dreary the stock market looks right now, given that BABA had recovered 28.04% of its value in the past month compared to S&P 500 Index at 0.42%. Opportune investors would be well advised to take advantage of the current bear market to add more undervalued stocks to their portfolios, since it is entirely possible that the time of maximum pain is over.Nevertheless, investors hoping for the revival of ANT IPO would definitely be disappointed, since the Chinese government denied the news report, leading to a -8.13% stock decline from $119.62 on 8 June 2022.BABA Closed Off FY2022 Beautifully Despite Macro IssuesBABA Revenue and Gross IncomeS&P Capital IQIn FQ4'22, BABA reported revenues of $32.18B, representing excellent YoY growth of 12.51%, despite the enforced lockdowns in multiple Chinese cities. We can see hints of these improvements in FQ4'22, where the company spent $7.19B in its operating expenses in FQ4'22, representing a 25% decrease QoQ in R&D, Selling/Marketing, and General/Administrative expenses. Assuming that BABA continues on this cost reduction path, we are confident of BABA's capabilities in improving its profitability moving forward.BABA Projected Revenue and Net IncomeS&P Capital IQSince our previous analysis in May 2022, BABA's revenue growth has been upgraded from a CAGR of 7.09% to 9.33%, though its net income is projected to grow even faster from a CAGR of 38.94% to 56.53%. For FY2023, consensus estimates also upgraded its revenue growth to 3.62% YoY, thereby underlining their optimistic view on the recovery of BABA stock and the overall Chinese market.
