For example, shares of Shopify (SHOP) have shed 51% year-to-date with 16% of the decline coming in Wednesday’s session, following the Canadian ecommerce giant’s Q4 report. That is despite the company beating the estimates on both the top-and bottom-line. Revenue increased by 41% year-over-year to reach $1.38 billion - $40 million above the consensus estimate, while non-GAAP EPS of $1.37 provided a $0.06 beat. But as has become de rigueur, investors are no longer impressed by quarterly outperformance, they want confirmation the growth is set to continue. And this is a problem for many online companies, which were particularly in favor during the height of Covid’s impact; as consumers shifted spending habits online, some experienced huge growth sprouts which will not be repeated. The picture is even more complex for Shopify. Hand in hand with more normalized growth, the company has said it intends to heavily spend this year on the expansion of its distribution network. While Piper Sandler's Brent Bracelin thinks the plan could work in the long run, it alters the picture closer to the here and now.“The elevated investment appetite was surprising and could pressure profits and cash flows in the short-run,” the 5-star analyst explained. “In the end, this should better position the company to capture a more meaningful portion of the $4T U.S. retail commerce industry with the potential to re-accelerate growth in 2023. However, the gross margin implications and higher execution risks in the near-term could change how growth investors value SHOP with a greater emphasis on EV/GP multiples going forward.”To this end, while Bracelin sticks to an Overweight (i.e., Buy) rating, given “higher execution risks,” the analyst has slashed the price target from $1,400 to $900, suggesting shares could climb ~34% in the year ahead. The Street’s average target, on the other hand, remains elevated. Shares are anticipated to appreciate by 74% over the coming months, given the average price target stands at $1,302 and change. The picture is more mixed on the ratings front; the stock’s Moderate Buy consensus rating is based on 14 Buys and 10 Holds.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":266,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9098745416,"gmtCreate":1644244084270,"gmtModify":1676533903449,"author":{"id":"4099663750877100","authorId":"4099663750877100","name":"Natageorgia","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/55b7a5c712660f94025ac99bf1bfd5df","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4099663750877100","authorIdStr":"4099663750877100"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"😁","listText":"😁","text":"😁","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9098745416","repostId":"2209323479","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2209323479","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1644225211,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2209323479?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-07 17:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Tax-Saving Strategies in This Market Sell-Off","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2209323479","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"When the market's down, all is not lost -- especially when it comes to next year's tax bill.","content":"

Nobody likes to see their account balances deteriorate, but there are some tax-saving strategies that can come in handy during periods of market turmoil. Think about a Roth conversion

Roth conversions tend to be a more advanced financial planning topic, but for most people, they're still useful to know about. In short, a Roth conversion involves moving money ("converting" it) from a pre-tax retirement account (like a traditional IRA or a pre-tax 401(k)) to a post-tax retirement account (like a Roth IRA or a Roth 401(k)). When you perform a Roth conversion, the converted amount is added to your ordinary income for the year, which tends to meaningfully inflate your tax bill.

Market downturns present an interesting opportunity for Roth conversions. Because account values are down, the amount you have available to convert is less than it had been when the market was performing well. In these circumstances, if you do choose to convert money to a Roth account, you'll end up including a smaller amount as ordinary income on your tax return, thereby paying less tax on the conversion.

Imagine that you have $100,000 sitting in a traditional IRA and all of the money is considered "pre-tax" (i.e., you haven't yet paid tax on the money). If the market were to crash 40%, you'd be left with $60,000 in the account.

If you were to perform a Roth conversion after your account had declined, you'd add $60,000 to your ordinary income for the year -- rather than the $100,000 you'd add if you initiated the conversion when the market was higher. The big benefit here is that you only need to pay tax on $60,000 and you can keep the same number of shares that you had in your pre-tax account. When the market recovers, all of the money is tax-free forever.

2. Offset capital gains with capital losses

If you've been meaning to sell a stock for some time and the market has turned south, you might be looking at a good opportunity to finally do it -- all while lowering your tax bill at the same time.

Recall that you're able to deduct capital losses on your tax return of up to $3,000 after netting for capital gains. To demonstrate this, imagine you sold a stock earlier in the year and realized a $10,000 gain on your initial investment. Then the market falls and you sell another stock, but this time you realize a $13,000 loss.

First, you'd "net" your capital gain of $10,000 with your capital loss of $13,000, leaving you with a $3,000 loss to deduct from your annual income -- thereby reducing your tax bill for the year.

Any losses in excess of $3,000 can be carried forward indefinitely, so you'd be able to apply any excess investment losses against future investment gains until your losses have been exhausted.

3. Rebalance retirement accounts

"Rebalancing" your portfolio means bringing the relative shares of stocks, bonds, and other assets back to your predetermined asset allocation percentages.

In other words, say you begin investing with an asset allocation of 60% stocks, 30% bonds, and 10% cash -- a moderate-risk portfolio. Because of a market downturn and a rally in bonds, you're now looking at a portfolio of 50% stocks and 40% in bonds, while cash has remained level at 10%.

In theory, this is a time to sell bonds and buy stocks, both to take advantage of lower stock prices and to get your own portfolio back in line with your risk and return objectives.

If you do decide to rebalance, make sure to do so in your retirement accounts as well. The reason for this is that you're able to trade to your heart's content in these accounts without any tax ramifications; trading in regular taxable brokerage accounts will likely cause some tax consequence, assuming you own investments that have appreciated over time.

Market downturns can present opportunity

Again, while nobody likes to see their money seemingly evaporate, there are some small things you can do to at least improve the structure of your portfolio during a correction. Ideally, these steps can help you build wealth faster and avoid higher tax bills along the way. Knowing the basic details of all three strategies can work wonders when it comes to tax planning, so it's worth learning about how to "play defense" when the market seems out of control.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Tax-Saving Strategies in This Market Sell-Off
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Tax-Saving Strategies in This Market Sell-Off\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-07 17:13 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Nobody likes to see their account balances deteriorate, but there are some tax-saving strategies that can come in handy during periods of market turmoil. Then the market falls and you sell another stock, but this time you realize a $13,000 loss.First, you'd \"net\" your capital gain of $10,000 with your capital loss of $13,000, leaving you with a $3,000 loss to deduct from your annual income -- thereby reducing your tax bill for the year.Any losses in excess of $3,000 can be carried forward indefinitely, so you'd be able to apply any excess investment losses against future investment gains until your losses have been exhausted.3. Rebalance retirement accounts\"Rebalancing\" your portfolio means bringing the relative shares of stocks, bonds, and other assets back to your predetermined asset allocation percentages. In other words, say you begin investing with an asset allocation of 60% stocks, 30% bonds, and 10% cash -- a moderate-risk portfolio. Because of a market downturn and a rally in bonds, you're now looking at a portfolio of 50% stocks and 40% in bonds, while cash has remained level at 10%.In theory, this is a time to sell bonds and buy stocks, both to take advantage of lower stock prices and to get your own portfolio back in line with your risk and return objectives. If you do decide to rebalance, make sure to do so in your retirement accounts as well. The reason for this is that you're able to trade to your heart's content in these accounts without any tax ramifications; trading in regular taxable brokerage accounts will likely cause some tax consequence, assuming you own investments that have appreciated over time.Market downturns can present opportunityAgain, while nobody likes to see their money seemingly evaporate, there are some small things you can do to at least improve the structure of your portfolio during a correction. Ideally, these steps can help you build wealth faster and avoid higher tax bills along the way. Knowing the basic details of all three strategies can work wonders when it comes to tax planning, so it's worth learning about how to \"play defense\" when the market seems out of control.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":314,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9098079986,"gmtCreate":1643985570330,"gmtModify":1676533878775,"author":{"id":"4099663750877100","authorId":"4099663750877100","name":"Natageorgia","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/55b7a5c712660f94025ac99bf1bfd5df","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4099663750877100","authorIdStr":"4099663750877100"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"😊","listText":"😊","text":"😊","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9098079986","repostId":"2208312962","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2208312962","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643973538,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208312962?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-04 19:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Growth Stocks to Buy That Have Crashed More Than 60%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208312962","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Don't write off these beaten-down stocks.","content":"

The Beatles' classic hit "The Long and Winding Road" wasn't about growth stocks. But the idea certainly applies. It's never a straight path upward -- even for the most promising stocks.

We've seen a perfect example of this in recent months. Many top stocks have plunged. And that actually makes them even better picks for long-term investors. Here are three growth stocks to buy that have crashed more than 60%.

1. Teladoc Health

Shares of Teladoc Health (NYSE:TDOC) have plummeted close to 70% from the peak set in early 2021. Investors worried that the virtual care provider's valuation got too frothy after a huge run-up fueled by COVID-19 lockdowns.

However, it's a mistake to think that Teladoc's fortunes hinge on the coronavirus. The company's revenue growth and visit volumes have continued to increase even with most lockdowns becoming a distant memory. People who have tried virtual visits liked their experience. Eighty-two percent of consumers said that telehealth was equal to or better than in-person care, according to a survey conducted by Piper Sandler.

Teladoc estimates that its total addressable market tops $260 billion annually. To put that into perspective, the company will probably record revenue of around $2 billion for 2021 and currently sports a market cap of $12 billion. What's even more impressive is that $75 billion of Teladoc's total addressable market opportunity lies within its existing member base.

Sure, Teladoc faces some competition. But it's indisputably the leader in virtual care with the broadest array of products and services, the widest geographical reach, and the biggest client base.

2. Pinterest

Like Teladoc, Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) stock is down close to 70% from its high set early last year. The steep sell-off stemmed primarily from declining monthly average user (MAU) volumes.

However, those falling MAU numbers really aren't as troubling as some might think. The underlying reason is the explosion in users that Pinterest experienced during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. Even with the declines, the company's MAU numbers remain well above pre-pandemic levels.

Importantly, Pinterest's average revenue per user (ARPU) continues to grow robustly. It has plenty of room to improve. The company's ARPU is less than one-sixth of what Meta Platforms pulls in with its Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp apps.

There's a good argument that Pinterest's best days are yet to come. The company doesn't face the controversies that have plagued other top social media stocks. Thanks to the big decline over the past 12 months, its shares are also attractively valued. Once Pinterest moves past its challenging year-over-year MAU comparisons, the stock could deliver a strong rebound.

3. Novocure

Novocure's (NASDAQ:NVCR) share price has plunged more than 65% since June 2021. The primary issue for the company is that its revenue growth has been weak. But investors should focus on Novocure's long-term prospects instead of its current malaise.

Don't look for a return to soaring sales growth this year. Novocure projects that the number of patients using its Tumor Treating Fields (TTF) to treat glioblastoma (an aggressive type of brain cancer) and malignant pleural mesothelioma will increase only 2% to 5%.

However, TTF holds promise in using electrical fields to disrupt the replication of tumor cells in other types of cancer. Novocure expects to report results from its phase 3 study of TTF in treating non-small cell lung cancer and its phase 2 study in gastric cancer this year. The company also anticipates that an interim analysis from a late-stage study for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer will wrap up in the second quarter of 2022. Final data from this study should be on the way next year.

In addition, Novocure plans to kick off a limited launch in Europe later this year for its next-generation array. The company thinks this array will increase TTF's dose delivery with less heat generation, which could increase the efficacy of the therapy.

Several catalysts are on the way for this beaten-down healthcare stock. Patient investors who buy Novocure could be richly rewarded.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Growth Stocks to Buy That Have Crashed More Than 60%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Growth Stocks to Buy That Have Crashed More Than 60%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-04 19:18 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The Beatles' classic hit \"The Long and Winding Road\" wasn't about growth stocks. Sea Limited: Implied upside of 90%

Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE) reached an all-time high of $373 in October before a broad tech sell-off struck it down to $224, where it trades today. The company is a triple threat when it comes to the digital economy, operating in high-growth industries that include mobile gaming, e-commerce, and digital payments.

Its mobile-gaming business, Garena, owns Free Fire, one of the top-grossing games in both Apple's App Store and Alphabet's Google Play store. In 2021, the game surpassed one billion downloads and hit a record-high 150 million daily active users. Its digital entertainment segment (which includes gaming) was responsible for $1.1 billion of that top line, and its e-commerce segment (which includes payments) contributed $1.5 billion. The latter grew faster at 134% year over year.

But looking at the big picture, the company is on track to deliver $9.5 billion in full-year 2021 revenue. That's 800% growth since 2018, when it cleared $1 billion in annual revenue for the first time.

It's little wonder that investment bank Barclays has attached a $427 price target to Sea Limited stock, which means the bank expects shares to soar over 90% from here.

2. Skillz: Implied upside of 236%

When it comes to mobile gaming, Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ) takes a different approach to Sea Limited. It doesn't develop games itself, instead building an ecosystem for developers to generate revenue from their creations. The platform is designed to solve a critical problem: Just 2% of game developers achieve "break-through success" in the industry, according to the company, so developers need to get creative about how they monetize.

Skillz runs real-money tournaments for its users with the games on its platform. Players pay an entry fee and have the potential to win a cash prize if they manage to rank high enough. Out of the prize pool, Skillz takes a fee and so does the game developer, which means revenue can be generated without the game being wildly popular and without a huge marketing budget.

The company now runs over five million tournaments per day for its 30 million users, who spend twice as much time on the platform as the industry average. While the majority of the games on Skillz are from small developers, the company recently bagged a big fish. The National Football League has enlisted Skillz to run a developer challenge where game makers will compete to build the league's very own mobile game. The competition is now in the semi-finals.

This foray into the mainstream caps off a very strong 2021 when Skillz is set to grow its revenue to $389 million for the year, a 69% increase from 2020. And in 2022, analysts expect the company will deliver $549 million, crossing the half-billion-dollar mark for the first time.

Wall Street firm Wedbush Securities has a $25 price target on the stock, representing 236% in potential upside from its current price of $7.44. The market tumbled, and the pain was felt even more by the battleground stocks I often name. My three stocks to avoid last week were on the move -- as Netflix, Lucid Motors, and United Airlines were down 24%, 11%, and 11%, respectively -- averaging out to a 15.3% decline.

The S&P 500 slipped 5.7% for the week, so I won last week. My bearish picks have now lost to the market in 13 of the past 14 weeks. This week, I see AT&T (NYSE:T), MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), and VF (NYSE:VFC), as stocks that you may want to consider steering clear from. Let's go over my reasons for the near-term pessimism.

AT&T

As a recent AT&T shareholder, I can't complain. The telco giant has delivered a 10% return so far this young year, helping eat into some of the losses of my more aggressive growth stocks. I have a couple of reasons to be cautious with AT&T this week.

Let's start with earnings. AT&T reports its fourth-quarter results on Wednesday morning. It's not expected to be a good report. Analysts see flattish earnings growth on a nearly 12% year-over-year revenue decline. There are risks embedded in Wednesday's narrative. What if the there are delays in the WarnerMedia spin off? What if the expected dividend cut will be more substantial? What if the 5G rollout for its flagship service keeps running into more obstacles?

There's also the fear of sector rotation. AT&T has been a market leader so far this year, as investors rotate out of growth stocks into sleepier dividend payers. What if the fierce market correction that accelerated last week takes a breather? Will investors migrate out of AT&T to buy back into heavily discounted former market darlings?

MicroStrategy

It's fair to say that MicroStrategy is a Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) holding company disguised as a software provider. On the surface, MicroStrategy offers enterprise analytics software and services -- but it's pretty lousy at it. MicroStrategy has posted six consecutive years of declining revenue before bouncing back weakly in 2021.

The real appeal to MicroStrategy has been its aggressive approach at hoarding Bitcoin. It has acquired 124,391 Bitcoins over the past few years, shelling out about $3.75 billion to acquire the leading cryptocurrency at an average price of roughly $30,159 apiece. This may have seemed like a great strategy when Bitcoin was approaching $70,000 last year, but it's not a good look with Bitcoin now shedding roughly half of its peak value. Let's go over my reasons for the near-term pessimism.AT&TAs a recent AT&T shareholder, I can't complain. The telco giant has delivered a 10% return so far this young year, helping eat into some of the losses of my more aggressive growth stocks. I have a couple of reasons to be cautious with AT&T this week.Let's start with earnings. Will investors migrate out of AT&T to buy back into heavily discounted former market darlings?MicroStrategyIt's fair to say that MicroStrategy is a Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) holding company disguised as a software provider. On the surface, MicroStrategy offers enterprise analytics software and services -- but it's pretty lousy at it. MicroStrategy has posted six consecutive years of declining revenue before bouncing back weakly in 2021.The real appeal to MicroStrategy has been its aggressive approach at hoarding Bitcoin. With a leveraged MicroStrategy trading at an enterprise value that consists mostly of its Bitcoin stake, it's going to need crypto to recover if it wants to bounce back.VFAnother potential earnings season dud is VF, even if it's hard to be down on the company behind some of the market's more enduring footwear and apparel brands, including Vans, The North Face, and Timberland.
