However, risk and yield tend to correlate once yields hit 4% or above. In other words, high-yielding stocks can be yield traps -- i.e., companies with enticingly high yields where the underlying business model is struggling or broken.</p><p>The good news is that not all high-yielding stocks are bad news. The following three ultra-high-yielding stocks, which are averaging (yes, <i>averaging</i>) a 12.32% dividend yield, can generate $2,000 in annual dividend income with an initial investment of only $16,250 (split evenly, three ways).</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NLY\">Annaly Capital Management</a>: 12.12% yield</h2><p>Mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) <b>Annaly Capital Management</b> (NYSE:NLY) is no stranger to ultra-high-yield dividend stock lists. It&#39;s perhaps the most-trusted ultra-high-yield stock, with an average yield of around 10% over the past two decades. The company has also doled out more than $20 billion in dividend income since its inception in 1997.</p><p>Mortgage REITs like Annaly have a relatively straightforward operating model, even if the securities they own can be somewhat complex. Annaly is looking to borrow money at the lowest short-term rate possible, and use this capital to purchase higher-yielding long-term assets, like mortgage-backed securities (MBSs). The wider the gap between the average yield on MBSs and the average borrowing rate (this difference is known as the net interest margin), the more money mortgage REITs like Annaly can make.</p><p>As you might imagine, the mortgage REIT operating model tends to be interest-rate sensitive, with lower rates often providing the best environment for companies like Annaly to thrive. Over the past couple of months, the interest rate yield curve has flattened a bit, with the 2-year and 10-year yields on U.S. Treasury bonds narrowing. Since the 10-year Treasury bond is a good predictor for where mortgage rates head next, this tightening has resulted in a shrinking book value for Annaly.</p><p>But if you pan out beyond just the next couple of quarters, there&#39;s a lot to be excited about. If the Federal Reserve does raise lending rates, as expected, it&#39;ll also lift the yields on the MBSs Annaly is purchasing. Over time, this will widen the company&#39;s net interest margin.</p><p>What&#39;s more, the interest rate yield curve spends a disproportionately longer period of time in steepening than it does flattening. That&#39;s because the U.S. economy spends years expanding, compared to a couple of months or a few quarters in recession. In short, patience should pay off handsomely for Annaly&#39;s shareholders.</p><h2>Icahn Enterprises: 14.44% yield</h2><p>Another high-yielding dividend stock that can deliver an enormous amount of income from a relatively small investment is diversified holding company <b>Icahn Enterprises</b> (NASDAQ:IEP). This master limited partnership has paid a quarterly distribution for nearly 17 consecutive years and is currently yielding north of 14%!</p><p>There are two key reasons Icahn Enterprises is a smart buy for patient, income-seeking investors (aside from its insanely high yield). First, you get the leadership of Carl Icahn, who&#39;s the founder of the company and the chairman of the board of directors. Icahn is arguably <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the best-known activist investors on Wall Street. Activist investors usually buy up a single-digit-percentage stake in a company with the goal of gaining board seats or effecting change(s) to increase shareholder value. Sometimes this means pushing for the sale of noncore assets, introducing a capital return program, or perhaps putting an entire company up for sale.</p><p>The beauty of the activist-investor approach is that it usually benefits shareholders. While no activist investor has a perfect track record of success, Icahn has shown that he can help create value in virtually any economic environment. That&#39;s been demonstrated by Icahn Enterprises&#39; 66 consecutive quarterly distributions.</p><p>The second reason this ultra-high-yield stock can be a foundation for income seekers is the cyclical ties of its core holdings. The company has more than a half-dozen different industries represented by its operating segments. But a large percentage of this representation is tied to the energy and automotive industries. As noted, even though recessions are inevitable, periods of expansion last considerably longer. This suggests the natural expansion of the U.S. and global economy over time will allow the value of Icahn Enterprises&#39; cyclical holdings to increase.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AGNCO\">AGNC Investment Corp.</a>: 10.4% yield</h2><p>The third ultra-high-yield dividend stock that can pad investors&#39; pocketbooks is <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AGNCM\">AGNC Investment Corp</a>.</b> (NASDAQ:AGNC). It has averaged a double-digit yield in 12 of the past 13 years, making it one of the most consistently high-yielding companies of the past decade.</p><p>AGNC is another mortgage REIT that investors can trust. It has the same basic operating model as Annaly Capital Management, with a unique aspect or two that income seekers should be aware of.</p><p>For instance, AGNC has been parsing out its dividend on a monthly basis since October 2014. Most dividend stocks and mortgage REITs, including Annaly, pay their dividends once a quarter. If you prefer the adrenaline rush of nabbing a payout from your holdings on a monthly basis, buying AGNC is the smart way to go.</p><p>Something else to note about AGNC Investment is the company&#39;s penchant for buying agency securities. An agency asset is backed by the federal government in the event of default. As of the end of 2021, $79.7 billion of AGNC&#39;s $82 billion investment portfolio was agency securities. This is an even higher percentage of agency securities, relative to total portfolio holdings, than Annaly has. Though this added protection does lower the yields AGNC nets from the MBSs it purchases, it also allows the company to deploy leverage to boost its profit potential.</p><p>The transparency of the mortgage REIT industry also allows income investors to make smart decisions. The stocks in this industry tend to trade very close to their respective book values. Palantir fits this bill pretty well. But you can look at the chart of many innovation names that are seeing massive revenue growth but make no money. They all have gotten crushed in the last few months. While Palantir stock has a number of risks, we think you can finally start to buy.</p><p>The play</p><p>Target entry 1: $11.95-$12.15 40% of position</p><p>Target entry 2: $10.80-$11.00 60% of position</p><p>Stop loss: $9</p><p>Target exit: $15</p><p>Options recommendations: With premiums high in this volatile name selling puts is a strong strategy for income and/or defining entry. Consider the March 18th, 2022 $12 puts for $0.80-$0.85 in premium. Call option buying is pricey, but you can consider the August 19th, 2022 $14 strike for $1.60, then $1.20.</p><p>Discussion</p><p>Palantir brings in its revenue under two reporting segments. These are the government and commercial segments. Its commercial revenue stream has grown at a rapid rate over the last year, while government results and the outlook have been a bit mixed. To improve sales, Palantir has expanded its sales team and they have been working to secure new orders. In our opinion, this paid off.</p><p>Performance was strong andahead of consensus estimates. Total revenue grew 34% year-over-year to $433 million, beating estimates by almost $15 million. The commercial revenue continues to grow at a great pace, rising 132% in 2021, and up 47% in Q4 vs last year. While the Government revenues have slowed their growth somewhat, they still rose 26% from last year, and the company added a total of 34 net new customers in the quarter across both segments.</p><p>Now, here is the thing. The company is just barely starting to make money. That means the stock is expensive, like so many other growth tech names. More on that in a moment. While the company lost $59 million, adjusted income from operations was $124 million, while the company is free cash flow positive, seeing $104 million in the quarter. That is a big positive. For the year, adjusted free cash flow was $424 million. We love free cash flow. This is a very big positive. The company squeaked out a $0.02 adjusted EPS result. It is something.</p><p>Now, as for the valuation, it is often best to look at price to sales ratios for high-growth tech. Take a look at Seeking Alpha&#39;sgradeson these measures:</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8f7343d2292c60fa673f2cfd23e2ea66\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"574\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Seeking Alpha</p><p>A bit laughable really, as all high-growth tech seemingly have &#39;failing&#39; grades, but the metrics are what matters. At 18X sales, the stock is still expensive, factoring in the drop in shares to under $12, and we are still pricey at 15X-16X, but this is much more reasonable compared to when the stock was in the $30s. 90X FWD EPS, well, the company is working to get to being profitable, but we do like the hidden positive of a 1.0X PEG ratio. In terms ofgrowth,these measures look a lot better with 38% FWD revenue growth expected, and 350% levered free cash flow growth going forward. These fundamentals continue to improve for the company.</p><p>Of course, the stock is still not without risk. First, even after the precipitous drop, shares are pricey as we mentioned. The company also could see government slash spending in tough times, though, some would argue that their technology saves the government money. We see the commercials sales growing though a recession could lead to reduced spend on tech companies like Palantir that try and help solve problems for companies.</p><p>Perhaps one of the biggest issues many people have with this company is the unrelenting dilution that has been occurring. Alex Karp addressed this on the conference call:</p><blockquote><i>Thank you. And I really appreciate you, investors. Thanks for investing and the faith you have in us. Okay. So there&#39;s like the simple version, which I think it&#39;s like - so there&#39;s really - there&#39;s stock-based comp and there&#39;s dilution. Dilution thing, that&#39;s a red herring. We&#39;re not issuing a lot of new shares, I think it&#39;s like in the $9 million range. And so it would be a little coy of me to say that&#39;s like no issue, move on.</i></blockquote><blockquote><i>The thing to understand about Palantir and then I want to just take this like, it&#39;s actually not the result of the DPO, it&#39;s the result of the fact that we were completely focused on building product. We had no earthly idea we were going to DPO like right before we did it. And so most companies are quite frankly built so that the - when analysts look at it, the primary customer of most software companies is not the client, it&#39;s the software analyst.</i></blockquote><blockquote><i>So it&#39;s like we, obviously, our primary clients are our clients. which doesn&#39;t mean - and then now we&#39;re thinking about how do we expose the data in a way that people on the outside like you and professional analysts and others can look at the data and get a better sense of what&#39;s tracking, what&#39;s not tracking. But the primary source of a lot of these like questions really comes down to look, we built the company to support the U.S. warfighter primarily and then do - take dual, use it for the glory of humanity, particular humanity in the West. That was our idea. And because our primary client was not what someone had a hedge fund would think, we didn&#39;t actually think of these things from inception. And so now there&#39;s a process of normalization.</i></blockquote><blockquote><i>You&#39;re just going to see that in going forward on these calls just like how do you normalize, how do you provide data that people are going to look at, how do you provide data that people can understand that they&#39;re used to seeing, while simultaneously staying true to what our mission is. It&#39;s like our primary clients are the people we&#39;re serving. We&#39;re in full align with them. And that&#39;s why we survive even with the nascent sales force. You can get things to double, which is in sync.</i></blockquote><blockquote><i>So then you get to stock-based comp, which is like, okay, so - and there&#39;s 2 parts of it. Of course, IRI people kind of don&#39;t want me to do any kind of forward-looking math, but if you&#39;re smart enough to invest in talent, you&#39;re smart enough to figure out. There&#39;s essentially - there&#39;s the - how are we comping people, and there will be a normalization that will get us into a range where you would see in a software company within the next 18 months, latest 2 years. But there&#39;s essentially - and that&#39;s going to take a little time. It is going to happen, because it&#39;s also very much linked to another question, which is how do you actually run the company so it&#39;s profitable someday on a GAAP basis, not stripping out comp. And that was also within eyesight.</i></blockquote><blockquote><i>And those are our goals for Palantir because same reason we have no debt. The same reason we have $2.3 billion on our balance sheet. This is a company built for bad times. Bad times means strong finances internally. And that means at some point, you have to be GAAP profitable. There was not a lot of talk about financials and quite a bit of conjecture on the call. A lot of words, and not a lot of substance. This gives us a little bit more risk in addition to what was mentioned above.</p><p>Take home</p><p>Shares have been crushed. But the company operates with no debt and free cash flow. The dilution issue is a major annoyance for shareholders and is a risk factor for valuation. Despite falling to levels not seen since 2020, the stock remains expensive, but nowhere near where it was valued a year ago. And so now there's a process of normalization.You're just going to see that in going forward on these calls just like how do you normalize, how do you provide data that people are going to look at, how do you provide data that people can understand that they're used to seeing, while simultaneously staying true to what our mission is. It's like our primary clients are the people we're serving. We're in full align with them. And that's why we survive even with the nascent sales force. You can get things to double, which is in sync.So then you get to stock-based comp, which is like, okay, so - and there's 2 parts of it. Of course, IRI people kind of don't want me to do any kind of forward-looking math, but if you're smart enough to invest in talent, you're smart enough to figure out. There's essentially - there's the - how are we comping people, and there will be a normalization that will get us into a range where you would see in a software company within the next 18 months, latest 2 years. But there's essentially - and that's going to take a little time. It is going to happen, because it's also very much linked to another question, which is how do you actually run the company so it's profitable someday on a GAAP basis, not stripping out comp. And that was also within eyesight.And those are our goals for Palantir because same reason we have no debt. The same reason we have $2.3 billion on our balance sheet. This is a company built for bad times. Bad times means strong finances internally. And that means at some point, you have to be GAAP profitable. You can't be GAAP profitable if you're diluting people or - correctly your stock based comp is totally - is not in conformity with other companies.So you're seeing a normalization. This will change. It will change in the relatively near future. It will be linked to other things that we believe are important for Palantir like having a company that thrives in bad times. And we are - bad times are very good for Palantir because we build products that are robust, that are built for danger. And then the finances internally are actually built for bad times. And bad times means you have free cash flow, the free cash flow turns into GAAP profit.That means the stock-based comp has to be one that's aligned with our investors also because that's basically - it's part of a little bit longer philosophical narrative, but like if software is the only moat, then value and gross shares have to be re-evaluated in terms of their value, value only exists if you can actually get a tech node, call it, maybe something besides. And growth only exist if you build a company that is where the technology is strong enough, the business fundamentals are strong enough that the free cash flow actually turns into GAAP profitability, and that's linked to stock return. So this is a priority, both because you care, but also quite frankly, because it is the health of our company, which we care a lot about.\"As you can see, they acknowledge that this is an issue. We also like the mention of getting to GAAP profitability. However, we do encourage you to actually read the full transcript. The call was a bit interesting. There was not a lot of talk about financials and quite a bit of conjecture on the call. A lot of words, and not a lot of substance. This gives us a little bit more risk in addition to what was mentioned above.Take homeShares have been crushed. But the company operates with no debt and free cash flow. The dilution issue is a major annoyance for shareholders and is a risk factor for valuation. Despite falling to levels not seen since 2020, the stock remains expensive, but nowhere near where it was valued a year ago. Both are generally unhealthy for economies and other living things.</p><p>Ultimately, Tesla isn’t falling because of Musk’s Twitter, a Justice Department probe of shorts or relations with the Biden administration.</p><p>It’s falling on fundamentals. Scaling is difficult. It doesn’t get easier, for cars anyway, after the initial scaling.</p><p>The electric vehicle posse has been after Tesla for years, and they’re closing in. Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) and Rivian (NASDAQ:RIVN) are delivering electric cars that look very Tesla-like. Ford Motor (NYSE:F) has begun doing the same. Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) is ramping up production. Chinese companies are now strong enough to get by on reduced government help.</p><p>To justify its current price, Tesla needs to become bigger than General Motors (NYSE:GM) or Ford within just a few years. Opening its German plant will help. But you’re still assuming last year’s growth of 83% in car deliveries can be replicated. You’re still assuming Tesla can produce, and sell, hundreds of thousands of its butt-ugly Cybertrucks in Texas against Ford, GM, and Toyota (NYSE:TM).</p><h2>Stock Market Exuberance</h2><p>Tesla stock has been falling even while pension funds like Canada’s have been piling in. The assumption is that Tesla is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), that its software, electricity, insurance and services will multiply the value of each Tesla sale. But almost 90% of Tesla revenue still comes from cars. Tesla is not a solar panel company either. Battery storage revenues fell 38% in 2021.</p><p>That’s not to say Tesla hasn’t performed well. It has.</p><p>But its stock price assumes it can keep growing near its present rate, even as electric car production elsewhere ramps up.</p><p>We saw this last year with cloud stocks. There’s a limit to what people will pay for growth. Tesla seems to have gone through that limit, at ludicrous speed.</p><p>Meanwhile the Musks have taken their eyes off the ball. Buying Bitcoin while pretending to be unaware of its environmental damage is just stupid. Going into the video game industry is also stupid.</p><h2>The Bottom Line on TSLA Stock</h2><p>There are limits to what investors should pay for growth.</p><p>I think Tesla has exceeded those limits.</p><p>This doesn’t mean Tesla is a bad company. I think it can easily grow its top line by 50% this year, profitably. But then that growth is going to slow. Big numbers are harder to shift. The diversity of income Tesla once promised isn’t happening. It’s still a car company, and Elon Musk is growing bored with it.</p><p>If you assume TSLA stock is worth 10 times current revenue, or that its profit can double and it’s worth 30 times that, you’re still looking at a big drop in its stock price. Morgan Asset Management, a division of money-center bank <b>JPMorgan Chase</b>, found that dividend-paying companies returned an annual average of 9.5% between 1972 and 2012. By comparison, the companies not paying a dividend crawled to an annualized return of 1.6% over the same period.</p><p>Over time, we should expect dividend stocks to outperform. Companies that parse out a dividend on a regular basis are often profitable, time-tested, and have transparent long-term outlooks. These are typically companies that won&#39;t keep investors awake at night with worry.</p><p>Ideally, income seekers want the highest dividend yield possible with the least amount of risk. However, risk and yield tend to correlate once yields hit 4% or above. In other words, high-yielding stocks can be yield traps -- i.e., companies with enticingly high yields where the underlying business model is struggling or broken.</p><p>The good news is that not all high-yielding stocks are bad news. The following three ultra-high-yielding stocks, which are averaging (yes, <i>averaging</i>) a 12.32% dividend yield, can generate $2,000 in annual dividend income with an initial investment of only $16,250 (split evenly, three ways).</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NLY\">Annaly Capital Management</a>: 12.12% yield</h2><p>Mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) <b>Annaly Capital Management</b> (NYSE:NLY) is no stranger to ultra-high-yield dividend stock lists. It&#39;s perhaps the most-trusted ultra-high-yield stock, with an average yield of around 10% over the past two decades. The company has also doled out more than $20 billion in dividend income since its inception in 1997.</p><p>Mortgage REITs like Annaly have a relatively straightforward operating model, even if the securities they own can be somewhat complex. Annaly is looking to borrow money at the lowest short-term rate possible, and use this capital to purchase higher-yielding long-term assets, like mortgage-backed securities (MBSs). The wider the gap between the average yield on MBSs and the average borrowing rate (this difference is known as the net interest margin), the more money mortgage REITs like Annaly can make.</p><p>As you might imagine, the mortgage REIT operating model tends to be interest-rate sensitive, with lower rates often providing the best environment for companies like Annaly to thrive. Over the past couple of months, the interest rate yield curve has flattened a bit, with the 2-year and 10-year yields on U.S. Treasury bonds narrowing. Since the 10-year Treasury bond is a good predictor for where mortgage rates head next, this tightening has resulted in a shrinking book value for Annaly.</p><p>But if you pan out beyond just the next couple of quarters, there&#39;s a lot to be excited about. If the Federal Reserve does raise lending rates, as expected, it&#39;ll also lift the yields on the MBSs Annaly is purchasing. Over time, this will widen the company&#39;s net interest margin.</p><p>What&#39;s more, the interest rate yield curve spends a disproportionately longer period of time in steepening than it does flattening. That&#39;s because the U.S. economy spends years expanding, compared to a couple of months or a few quarters in recession. In short, patience should pay off handsomely for Annaly&#39;s shareholders.</p><h2>Icahn Enterprises: 14.44% yield</h2><p>Another high-yielding dividend stock that can deliver an enormous amount of income from a relatively small investment is diversified holding company <b>Icahn Enterprises</b> (NASDAQ:IEP). This master limited partnership has paid a quarterly distribution for nearly 17 consecutive years and is currently yielding north of 14%!</p><p>There are two key reasons Icahn Enterprises is a smart buy for patient, income-seeking investors (aside from its insanely high yield). First, you get the leadership of Carl Icahn, who&#39;s the founder of the company and the chairman of the board of directors. Icahn is arguably <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the best-known activist investors on Wall Street. Activist investors usually buy up a single-digit-percentage stake in a company with the goal of gaining board seats or effecting change(s) to increase shareholder value. Sometimes this means pushing for the sale of noncore assets, introducing a capital return program, or perhaps putting an entire company up for sale.</p><p>The beauty of the activist-investor approach is that it usually benefits shareholders. While no activist investor has a perfect track record of success, Icahn has shown that he can help create value in virtually any economic environment. That&#39;s been demonstrated by Icahn Enterprises&#39; 66 consecutive quarterly distributions.</p><p>The second reason this ultra-high-yield stock can be a foundation for income seekers is the cyclical ties of its core holdings. The company has more than a half-dozen different industries represented by its operating segments. But a large percentage of this representation is tied to the energy and automotive industries. As noted, even though recessions are inevitable, periods of expansion last considerably longer. This suggests the natural expansion of the U.S. and global economy over time will allow the value of Icahn Enterprises&#39; cyclical holdings to increase.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AGNCO\">AGNC Investment Corp.</a>: 10.4% yield</h2><p>The third ultra-high-yield dividend stock that can pad investors&#39; pocketbooks is <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AGNCM\">AGNC Investment Corp</a>.</b> (NASDAQ:AGNC). It has averaged a double-digit yield in 12 of the past 13 years, making it one of the most consistently high-yielding companies of the past decade.</p><p>AGNC is another mortgage REIT that investors can trust. It has the same basic operating model as Annaly Capital Management, with a unique aspect or two that income seekers should be aware of.</p><p>For instance, AGNC has been parsing out its dividend on a monthly basis since October 2014. Most dividend stocks and mortgage REITs, including Annaly, pay their dividends once a quarter. If you prefer the adrenaline rush of nabbing a payout from your holdings on a monthly basis, buying AGNC is the smart way to go.</p><p>Something else to note about AGNC Investment is the company&#39;s penchant for buying agency securities. An agency asset is backed by the federal government in the event of default. As of the end of 2021, $79.7 billion of AGNC&#39;s $82 billion investment portfolio was agency securities. This is an even higher percentage of agency securities, relative to total portfolio holdings, than Annaly has. Though this added protection does lower the yields AGNC nets from the MBSs it purchases, it also allows the company to deploy leverage to boost its profit potential.</p><p>The transparency of the mortgage REIT industry also allows income investors to make smart decisions. The stocks in this industry tend to trade very close to their respective book values. Morgan Asset Management's comparison of the performance of dividend-paying stocks to those not paying a dividend over multiple decades speaks wonders. J.P. Morgan Asset Management, a division of money-center bank JPMorgan Chase, found that dividend-paying companies returned an annual average of 9.5% between 1972 and 2012. By comparison, the companies not paying a dividend crawled to an annualized return of 1.6% over the same period.Over time, we should expect dividend stocks to outperform. Companies that parse out a dividend on a regular basis are often profitable, time-tested, and have transparent long-term outlooks. These are typically companies that won't keep investors awake at night with worry.Ideally, income seekers want the highest dividend yield possible with the least amount of risk. However, risk and yield tend to correlate once yields hit 4% or above. In other words, high-yielding stocks can be yield traps -- i.e., companies with enticingly high yields where the underlying business model is struggling or broken.The good news is that not all high-yielding stocks are bad news. The following three ultra-high-yielding stocks, which are averaging (yes, averaging) a 12.32% dividend yield, can generate $2,000 in annual dividend income with an initial investment of only $16,250 (split evenly, three ways).Annaly Capital Management: 12.12% yieldMortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) Annaly Capital Management (NYSE:NLY) is no stranger to ultra-high-yield dividend stock lists. It's perhaps the most-trusted ultra-high-yield stock, with an average yield of around 10% over the past two decades. The company has also doled out more than $20 billion in dividend income since its inception in 1997.Mortgage REITs like Annaly have a relatively straightforward operating model, even if the securities they own can be somewhat complex. Annaly is looking to borrow money at the lowest short-term rate possible, and use this capital to purchase higher-yielding long-term assets, like mortgage-backed securities (MBSs). The wider the gap between the average yield on MBSs and the average borrowing rate (this difference is known as the net interest margin), the more money mortgage REITs like Annaly can make.As you might imagine, the mortgage REIT operating model tends to be interest-rate sensitive, with lower rates often providing the best environment for companies like Annaly to thrive. Over the past couple of months, the interest rate yield curve has flattened a bit, with the 2-year and 10-year yields on U.S. Treasury bonds narrowing. Since the 10-year Treasury bond is a good predictor for where mortgage rates head next, this tightening has resulted in a shrinking book value for Annaly.But if you pan out beyond just the next couple of quarters, there's a lot to be excited about. If the Federal Reserve does raise lending rates, as expected, it'll also lift the yields on the MBSs Annaly is purchasing. Over time, this will widen the company's net interest margin.What's more, the interest rate yield curve spends a disproportionately longer period of time in steepening than it does flattening. That's because the U.S. economy spends years expanding, compared to a couple of months or a few quarters in recession. In short, patience should pay off handsomely for Annaly's shareholders.Icahn Enterprises: 14.44% yieldAnother high-yielding dividend stock that can deliver an enormous amount of income from a relatively small investment is diversified holding company Icahn Enterprises (NASDAQ:IEP). This master limited partnership has paid a quarterly distribution for nearly 17 consecutive years and is currently yielding north of 14%!There are two key reasons Icahn Enterprises is a smart buy for patient, income-seeking investors (aside from its insanely high yield). First, you get the leadership of Carl Icahn, who's the founder of the company and the chairman of the board of directors. Icahn is arguably one of the best-known activist investors on Wall Street. Activist investors usually buy up a single-digit-percentage stake in a company with the goal of gaining board seats or effecting change(s) to increase shareholder value. Sometimes this means pushing for the sale of noncore assets, introducing a capital return program, or perhaps putting an entire company up for sale.The beauty of the activist-investor approach is that it usually benefits shareholders. While no activist investor has a perfect track record of success, Icahn has shown that he can help create value in virtually any economic environment. That's been demonstrated by Icahn Enterprises' 66 consecutive quarterly distributions.The second reason this ultra-high-yield stock can be a foundation for income seekers is the cyclical ties of its core holdings. The company has more than a half-dozen different industries represented by its operating segments. But a large percentage of this representation is tied to the energy and automotive industries. As noted, even though recessions are inevitable, periods of expansion last considerably longer. This suggests the natural expansion of the U.S. and global economy over time will allow the value of Icahn Enterprises' cyclical holdings to increase.AGNC Investment Corp.: 10.4% yieldThe third ultra-high-yield dividend stock that can pad investors' pocketbooks is AGNC Investment Corp. (NASDAQ:AGNC). It has averaged a double-digit yield in 12 of the past 13 years, making it one of the most consistently high-yielding companies of the past decade.AGNC is another mortgage REIT that investors can trust. It has the same basic operating model as Annaly Capital Management, with a unique aspect or two that income seekers should be aware of.For instance, AGNC has been parsing out its dividend on a monthly basis since October 2014. Most dividend stocks and mortgage REITs, including Annaly, pay their dividends once a quarter. If you prefer the adrenaline rush of nabbing a payout from your holdings on a monthly basis, buying AGNC is the smart way to go.Something else to note about AGNC Investment is the company's penchant for buying agency securities. An agency asset is backed by the federal government in the event of default. As of the end of 2021, $79.7 billion of AGNC's $82 billion investment portfolio was agency securities. This is an even higher percentage of agency securities, relative to total portfolio holdings, than Annaly has. Though this added protection does lower the yields AGNC nets from the MBSs it purchases, it also allows the company to deploy leverage to boost its profit potential.The transparency of the mortgage REIT industry also allows income investors to make smart decisions. The stocks in this industry tend to trade very close to their respective book values.
