Apple is not immune to these macro forces.</p><p>Even the latest Apple event on March 8, with the unveiling of a new iPhone SE, iPad Air, and new Mac Studio, will be enough to change the course of Apple over the near term. The issue with Apple is not the fundamentals of the business. The problem with Apple is that the stock&#39;s valuation is high on a historical basis. Right now, investors are re-pricing risk, leading to board multiple compression across the entire market.</p><h2>AAPL&#39;s Valuation Is Still High</h2><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/62f3bc82f1f7ce23f94e0a25183e9e7b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"317\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Bloomberg</p><p>Apple&#39;s stock is certainly not cheap, trading at 24.7 it 1-yr Fwd EPS estimates, which doesn&#39;t sound high compared to other stocks in the S&amp;P 500. But it&#39;s very high for Apple on a historical basis. Since 2014, Apple has had an average PE ratio of 16.7. Now it&#39;s reasonable to assume some added multiple expansion over the years due to the company&#39;s addition of its services business. However, despite its decline, the current PE ratio is still more than <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> standard deviation above the historical average.</p><p>It probably signals a lot more multiple compression to go for Apple&#39;s stock, should the general trend in the broader market continue to hold. That multiple could fall dramatically, potentially to 20 or lower.</p><p>If Apple is forecast to earn around $6.69 per share in 2023 and sees its PE ratio fall to about 20 times earnings, the stock would only be valued at approximately $134. That would be a considerable drop from its current price of roughly $162 on March 9, a decline of about 17.4%.</p><p>The valuation may especially matter given that company is only expected to see earnings grow 9.6% in the fiscal year 2022 and 6.8% in the fiscal year 2023, which doesn&#39;t justify the historically high valuation.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bf1a8ddea8fbe028617f8f659fd46cae\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"325\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Bloomberg</p><h2>Betting Shares Drops</h2><p>This type of thinking could have led someone to make a massive bet that Apple&#39;s stock will see lower prices soon. On March 7, the April 14 $150 puts saw their open interest rise by an eye-popping 45,000 contracts. The data shows the contracts were bought on the ASK at various prices during the trading session on March 4 for around $3. That would imply that the stock would need to fall below $147 for the trader to profit if holding the contracts until the expiration date.</p><h2>Trends Breaking Down</h2><p>The technical chart does not look strong and shows that prices have been declining and approaching a critical long-term uptrend that started in May. The technical pattern itself is a rising broadening wedge, which tends to be a bearish pattern. A break of that uptrend would result in the stock falling to around $149, the next level of crucial support for the equity. Additionally, the relative strength index is trending lower, suggesting a loss of bullish momentum.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b4bb2f209fcb045281afe14f2543d6c7\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"444\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Tradingview</p><p>The decline in Apple shares may have nothing to do with the fundamentals of the business, which seem pretty strong right now, especially in the face of the strong product line-up. The company has recently started rolling out its chip designs into its Mac and iPad line-ups. Plus, the recent event showed the addition of a new Mac.</p><p>None of this is to say that Apple doesn&#39;t have a strong path forward in the future. It does. That, coupled with the potential for several Fed rate hikes as inflation spirals out of control, is resulting in valuation and multiple compression. Apple is not immune to these macro forces.Even the latest Apple event on March 8, with the unveiling of a new iPhone SE, iPad Air, and new Mac Studio, will be enough to change the course of Apple over the near term. The issue with Apple is not the fundamentals of the business. The problem with Apple is that the stock's valuation is high on a historical basis. Right now, investors are re-pricing risk, leading to board multiple compression across the entire market.AAPL's Valuation Is Still HighBloombergApple's stock is certainly not cheap, trading at 24.7 it 1-yr Fwd EPS estimates, which doesn't sound high compared to other stocks in the S&P 500. But it's very high for Apple on a historical basis. Since 2014, Apple has had an average PE ratio of 16.7. Now it's reasonable to assume some added multiple expansion over the years due to the company's addition of its services business. However, despite its decline, the current PE ratio is still more than one standard deviation above the historical average.It probably signals a lot more multiple compression to go for Apple's stock, should the general trend in the broader market continue to hold. That multiple could fall dramatically, potentially to 20 or lower.If Apple is forecast to earn around $6.69 per share in 2023 and sees its PE ratio fall to about 20 times earnings, the stock would only be valued at approximately $134. That would be a considerable drop from its current price of roughly $162 on March 9, a decline of about 17.4%.The valuation may especially matter given that company is only expected to see earnings grow 9.6% in the fiscal year 2022 and 6.8% in the fiscal year 2023, which doesn't justify the historically high valuation.BloombergBetting Shares DropsThis type of thinking could have led someone to make a massive bet that Apple's stock will see lower prices soon. On March 7, the April 14 $150 puts saw their open interest rise by an eye-popping 45,000 contracts. The data shows the contracts were bought on the ASK at various prices during the trading session on March 4 for around $3. That would imply that the stock would need to fall below $147 for the trader to profit if holding the contracts until the expiration date.Trends Breaking DownThe technical chart does not look strong and shows that prices have been declining and approaching a critical long-term uptrend that started in May. The technical pattern itself is a rising broadening wedge, which tends to be a bearish pattern. A break of that uptrend would result in the stock falling to around $149, the next level of crucial support for the equity. Additionally, the relative strength index is trending lower, suggesting a loss of bullish momentum.TradingviewThe decline in Apple shares may have nothing to do with the fundamentals of the business, which seem pretty strong right now, especially in the face of the strong product line-up. The company has recently started rolling out its chip designs into its Mac and iPad line-ups. Plus, the recent event showed the addition of a new Mac.None of this is to say that Apple doesn't have a strong path forward in the future. It does. This is a rich valuation multiple that sits closer to the higher end of Apple’s historical P/E range, although not at the very peak.</p><p>But should 25.6x be considered a high number in today’s market environment? Let’s compare the figure to the forward P/E of Apple’s key competitors and tech giant peers. For example, why might the earnings ratio be inflated or discounted?</p><p>One of the reasons could be growth expectations. The more robust a company’s long-term earnings growth potential is, the richer its P/E tends or deserves to be.</p><p>So, in order to do a better “apples-to-apples” comparison (pun definitely intended) between the Cupertino company and its peer, I suggest the following approach to normalize for growth expectations: divide each stock’s P/E by the estimate for five-year earnings increase.</p><p>The resulting metric is what we call the PEG ratio, which stands for P/E-to-growth. Think of balance sheet solidity, for example, which is not reflected in earnings or earnings growth.</p><p>A good metric to use here is enterprise value-to-earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation — or EV/EBITDA. The numerator in this equation adjusts for net cash on hand, and rewards companies that have better liquidity.</p><p>Using this valuation metric (see chart below), notice how NVIDIA sticks out as an absurdly pricey stock. However, shares aren’t reflecting this right now.</p><p>In addition, Apple stock and the other major indices were buoyant after a report indicated that core inflation increased less than expected in March.</p><p>According to evidence from the U.S. Labor Department, prices for everyday items kept increasing in March to their highest levels since the late 1980s. However, inflation data showed that the month-to-month growth was less than expected.</p><p>Is Apple a Buy Hold or Sell?</p><p>Overall, Apple is a great company that has been consistently innovating and improving its products. In turn, the share price of AAPL stock keeps going up and the shares are becoming more valuable every day. The firm innovates quickly and continues to grow with the times to stay competitive against other tech-based businesses.</p><p>Moreover, despite the worldwide supply chain issues, Apple was able to power through. Despite parts shortages, Apple shattered its revenue record, sales upped 11% to $124 billion, and profit grew from $28.7 billion to $34.6 billion. With that in mind, Apple has made a habit of outshining analyst estimates. The company sets the pace for innovation and beats competitors in virtually every measure.</p><p>Thus, based on the company’s current trends and future promises, AAPL stock could be worth a lot in the future. However, timing is everything when it comes to Apple. The next catalyst coming up for the tech giant is its second-quarter results, scheduled for after the closing bell on April 28.</p><p>That said, according to one analysis, when Apple posts a better-than-expected earnings report, the stock usually drops by almost 1% the next day. When earnings are reported, pop tends to happen. Laidler wrote in a note Friday &#34;Risks are manifold across US, Europe, and China, whilst valuations provide little overall support yet.&#34;</p><p>&#34;But we see room for ‘less bad’ news from peaking 8.5% inflation and an already hawkish 3.5% rate cycle, with earnings resilient, sentiment very depressed, and good risk/reward to buying ‘corrections’ or ‘4% down-days’ over 12 months,&#34; he said.</p><p>&#34;We strongly focus on cheap Value and cash-flow defensives. It’s too early for tech.&#34;</p><p>The S&amp;P is off 14% from its high coming into the year.</p><p>&#34;This is nearing the magnitude of the average -17% ‘correction’ and has lasted longer,&#34; Laidler said. &#34;The risk/reward to buying this typical correction over the following 12-months is strongly positive. Similarly, buying the rare (around once every 18 months) large &#39;4%&#39; down day we near saw yesterday has a c20% average 1-year return.&#34;</p><p>The 10-year Treasury yield (TBT) (TLT) is moving higher this morning, up 2 basis points to 3.09%, but still off yesterday&#39;s highs.</p><p>&#34;Our ‘fair value’ P/E has further downside risk,&#34; Laidler added. &#34;Bond yields will not rise forever, but we are in uncharted territory with Fed’s massive balance sheet roll off. By contrast earnings continue to deliver, up 10% in the US and 35% in Europe in Q1, and resilient to the macro maelstrom for now.&#34;</p><p>&#34;It’s too early for tech, until bond yields peak. The stock&#39;s dividend recently yielded an appealing 3.35% -- and it has been increased at an average annual rate of about 5.6% over the past five years.</p><p>REITs are a way to invest in real estate without buying actual real estate properties. They&#39;re companies that themselves buy a lot of real estate to rent out, collecting income via leases. Many REITs focus on <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> or a few real estate sectors, such as medical buildings, retail outlets, apartments, industrial sites, storage units, and so on.
