Now is the time to look for cheap stocks to buy before they take back off.

Many stocks that were flying high only a few months ago got taken down hard as the S&P 500index fell 5.3% during the first month of the year.January was the index’s worst since the Covid-19 induced crash of March 2020. The technology heavy Nasdaq index had a worse go of it, falling 9% in January, also its worst month since the onset of the global pandemic.

However, many analysts on Wall Street see this year’s decline as a correction not a crash and are urging investors to buy stocks that have come down 20%, 50%, or more, in recent weeks.Ark Invest’s(NYSEARCA:ARKK)Cathie Wood said recently that “innovation is on sale” as she doubled down on many of the technology holdings in her actively managed exchange trade funds.

With so many stocks substantially off their 52-week highs, we thought we’d look at three cheap stocks to buy now before they take back off.

Disney(NYSE:DIS)

Block(NYSE:SQ)

Moderna(NASDAQ:MRNA)

Cheap Stocks to Buy Now: Disney (DIS)

Entertainment giant Disney is usually a reliable bet. And DIS stock got a big boost during the pandemic as the Disney+ streaming service took off, adding nearly 120 million subscribers in the two years after it launched in autumn 2019.

From the onset of the pandemic in March 2020 through September 2021, DIS stock gained 114%. However, since the start of the fourth quarter last year, Disney’s share price has declined 20%. The slump came after Disney issued disappointing earnings in November, missing analyst expectations for both revenue and earnings per share.

While the overall earnings at Disney were disappointing, what really sent the stock lower was the company’s announcement that subscriber growth at Disney+ slowed. Wall Street expected Disney to add 9.4 million new subscribers in the company’s fiscal fourth quarter, but the company added only 2.1 million new Disney+ subscribers. Analysts and investors seemed less concerned that Disney’s theme parks and cruise lines are reopened and focused on the slowing subscriber numbers.

More recently, DIS stock fell nearly 7% after the most recent earnings from Netflix(NASDAQ:NFLX) showed that competition is eating into its subscriber growth. However, some market observers say Disney stock has now been punished enough and are encouraging investors to buy the dip.

Block (SQ)

Shares of digital payments company Block haven’t been the same since the San Francisco-based company announced are brand and name change last year.

In an effort to reflect its growing interest in cryptocurrencies and the underlying “blockchain” that underpins digital coins and tokens, the company previously known as Square announced it would now be known as Block. The switch has not been well-received by investors.

Today, SQ stock is down 60% from its 52-week high of $289.23. The rebrand has been so poorly received that accounting firmH&R Block(NYSE:HRB) issuing Block for “trademark infringement.”

Block founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, who stepped down from his dual role leadingTwitter(NYSE:TWTR) last year so that he can concentrate exclusively on running Block, is a notorious crypto bull and is expected to pivot the financial technology company more towards digital coins.

The company recently announced plans to launch a Bitcoin(CCC:BTC-USD)mining system, and also holds a sizable amount of physical BTC, whose price has been extremely volatile this year. The increased focus on cryptocurrencies has unnerved some risk-averse investors.

However, at current levels, SQ stock is attractively priced. The median price target on the shares is currently $230, which is more than double its current level.

Cheap Stocks to Buy Now: Moderna (MRNA)

Boston-based pharmaceutical company Moderna is another once high-flying stock that has taken it on the chin in recent months. Currently changing hands at under $165 a share, MRNA stock today is more than 65% below its 52-week high.

For much of 2021, Moderna’s stock was one of the best-performing securities in the S&P 500 index. But this January, it was one of the worst performing. The stock has lost $130 billion in market capitalization, leaving shareholders reeling.

The about-face has been due to slowing global sales of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, as well as a thin pipeline of new pharmaceutical products. While the company was viewed as a savior during the pandemic, many investors are unsure where it goes from here.

However, Moderna is far from destitute. The company has forecast that it will sell between $18.5 billion and $22 billion worth of Covid-19 vaccines this year, outpacing last year’s sales. And with mounting evidence pointing to the need for regular booster shots, Moderna’s cash cow shouldn’t dry up anytime soon.

Moderna also had$15 billion of cash on hand at the end of September, up from $5 billion at the end of 2020, and says that it has 40 pharmaceutical products in various stages of development – some in Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials.

Given how severely MRNA stock has been taken down, many analysts now say it’s time to buy.

","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Cheap Stocks to Buy Now Before They Take Back Off
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Cheap Stocks to Buy Now Before They Take Back Off\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-04 19:54 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
January was a rough month for stocks, but the downturn won’t last forever. It's more incredible when it happens quickly, but slow and steady typically wins the investing race. Turning $1,000 into $10,000 means letting it grow 1,000%. And often it's nothing more than that -- simply letting it grow, not getting worried about the upticks and downticks, and not panic-selling. Buy shares in great companies, and let the magic of compounding do its work.

Home Depot and Costco Wholesale are two stocks that have slowly and securely grown and turned $1,000 into more than $10,000.

Home Depot: 12 years, 1,200%

Home Depot is the largest home improvement chain in the world, with $132 billion in 2020 sales. It operates 2,317 stores, the vast majority of which are in the U.S., although it also has stores in Canada and Mexico.

2020 was an especially fruitful year for the company, as shoppers staying home spent their money on home improvement, and Home Depot's strong digital program made it easy to shop online. It was also considered an essential store that was allowed to stay open during lockdowns, and 2020 sales increased 20% year over year. Sales growth has decelerated since then, as expected, but it's still strong -- in the 2021 third quarter, sales increased 10% year over year.

Demand remains strong, and the company has been able to meet it despite supply chain disruptions. Management is looking toward the future, upgrading its systems to handle omnichannel shopping. 55% of online orders in the third quarter were fulfilled in stores, and Home Depot is testing productivity enhancements, such as store-specific assortments, to provide a better shopping experience for customers. Investors can expect many years of growth from Home Depot.

I want to point out that not every year is a good year for the stock. At first glance, this looks like a fairly straightforward chart of gains, outside of the 2020 crash. But notice that there are several dips along the way, and Home Depot stock lost 10% of its value in 2018.

HD data by YCharts

The company went through some growing pains at that point, after it invested in a new digital strategy, which took longer than anticipated and pressured profitability. It's also down 12% year to date in 2022. But you already know to look past that, and see this as an opportunity. Shares are trading at only 24 times trailing-12-month (TTM) earnings at this price, making it an excellent time to take a position in this top stock.

Costco: 18 years, 1,200%

Costco is another stock that doesn't make a lot of waves but racks up gains over time. The warehouse giant is still posting high year-over-year increases, even though the pandemic-induced essentials stock-up has passed. In the fiscal first quarter (ended Nov. 21), sales increased 17% year over year. That's because customers seeking low prices as inflation sends prices higher flock to Costco's discount stores. That's also why Costco is a winner in any economy, although it often shows its best colors during economic volatility.

Costco only owns 828 warehouses worldwide, with 572 in the U.S. It opens stores at a fairly slow rate, with plans for about 30 net new stores in fiscal 2022, after 20 net new units in 2021. Comps are a big part of Costco's success, but its low store count gives it plenty of room to keep growing over time. It's also embraced e-commerce, which exploded during the pandemic, and remained elevated after lockdowns. E-commerce sales increased 14% year over year in the first quarter, and accounted for 8% to 9% of total sales.

Costco stock has lost about 14% of its value in 2022, alongside other stocks feeling the market correction. Even at the lower price, it's not incredibly cheap, trading at 42 times TTM earnings. It's more incredible when it happens quickly, but slow and steady typically wins the investing race. Turning $1,000 into $10,000 means letting it grow 1,000%. And often it's nothing more than that -- simply letting it grow, not getting worried about the upticks and downticks, and not panic-selling. Buy shares in great companies, and let the magic of compounding do its work.Home Depot and Costco Wholesale are two stocks that have slowly and securely grown and turned $1,000 into more than $10,000.Home Depot: 12 years, 1,200%Home Depot is the largest home improvement chain in the world, with $132 billion in 2020 sales. It operates 2,317 stores, the vast majority of which are in the U.S., although it also has stores in Canada and Mexico.2020 was an especially fruitful year for the company, as shoppers staying home spent their money on home improvement, and Home Depot's strong digital program made it easy to shop online. It was also considered an essential store that was allowed to stay open during lockdowns, and 2020 sales increased 20% year over year. Sales growth has decelerated since then, as expected, but it's still strong -- in the 2021 third quarter, sales increased 10% year over year.Demand remains strong, and the company has been able to meet it despite supply chain disruptions. Management is looking toward the future, upgrading its systems to handle omnichannel shopping. 55% of online orders in the third quarter were fulfilled in stores, and Home Depot is testing productivity enhancements, such as store-specific assortments, to provide a better shopping experience for customers. Investors can expect many years of growth from Home Depot.I want to point out that not every year is a good year for the stock. At first glance, this looks like a fairly straightforward chart of gains, outside of the 2020 crash. But notice that there are several dips along the way, and Home Depot stock lost 10% of its value in 2018.HD data by YChartsThe company went through some growing pains at that point, after it invested in a new digital strategy, which took longer than anticipated and pressured profitability. It's also down 12% year to date in 2022. But you already know to look past that, and see this as an opportunity. Shares are trading at only 24 times trailing-12-month (TTM) earnings at this price, making it an excellent time to take a position in this top stock.Costco: 18 years, 1,200%Costco is another stock that doesn't make a lot of waves but racks up gains over time. That's also why Costco is a winner in any economy, although it often shows its best colors during economic volatility.Costco only owns 828 warehouses worldwide, with 572 in the U.S. E-commerce sales increased 14% year over year in the first quarter, and accounted for 8% to 9% of total sales.Costco stock has lost about 14% of its value in 2022, alongside other stocks feeling the market correction. Even at the lower price, it's not incredibly cheap, trading at 42 times TTM earnings. Investors pay this premium for Costco's growth and reliability. Both Home Depot and Costco have gained much more than 1,000% over their lifetimes. The earlier you start investing, the more you stand to gain, and the easier it is to ensure a large and secure portfolio for retirement, or for whenever you need it.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":423,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093025280,"gmtCreate":1643465899705,"gmtModify":1676533823258,"author":{"id":"4103889207953100","authorId":"4103889207953100","name":"yinrudy","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4103889207953100","authorIdStr":"4103889207953100"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Target looks promising","listText":"Target looks promising","text":"Target looks promising","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093025280","repostId":"1172101929","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1172101929","pubTimestamp":1643425262,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1172101929?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-29 11:01","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Wildy Undervalued Stocks to Buy in a Heartbeat","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1172101929","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The general weakness in the stock market is a great opportunity for shrewd investors to make a move.","content":"

The general weakness in the stock market is a great opportunity for shrewd investors to make a move. And there was pretty much something for everyone.

We might as well start with the biggest of the big, Apple . The world's most-valuable company said that even with supply chain issues impacting its operations, it still reported a staggering $124 billion in revenue for its fiscal first quarter. After it posted those quarterly figures early on Thursday, several analysts upped their price targets on the stock the following day. These developments drew investors back to the payment card giant's shares, which closed over 9% higher.

So what

For the quarter, Mastercard's net revenue surged 27% higher year over year to $5.2 billion, whilenon-GAAP(adjusted) net income improved by 41% to $2.3 billion ($2.35 per share). On average, analysts had been forecasting $5.17 billion on the top line, with an adjusted per-share net profit of only $2.21.

Two of those analysts,Morgan Stanley's James Faucette and BMO Capital's James Fotheringham, both raised their price targets on Mastercard stock in the wake of the earnings release.

Both did so incrementally, with Faucette adding $1 for a new target of $449 per share and Fotheringham lifting his by $2 to $401. After it posted those quarterly figures early on Thursday, several analysts upped their price targets on the stock the following day. These developments drew investors back to the payment card giant's shares, which closed over 9% higher. So whatFor the quarter, Mastercard's net revenue surged 27% higher year over year to $5.2 billion, whilenon-GAAP(adjusted) net income improved by 41% to $2.3 billion ($2.35 per share). On average, analysts had been forecasting $5.17 billion on the top line, with an adjusted per-share net profit of only $2.21.Two of those analysts,Morgan Stanley's James Faucette and BMO Capital's James Fotheringham, both raised their price targets on Mastercard stock in the wake of the earnings release. Both did so incrementally, with Faucette adding $1 for a new target of $449 per share and Fotheringham lifting his by $2 to $401. Both analysts are also reiterating the equivalent of a buy recommendation on the stock. In particular, Faucette is cheered by the resilience of consumer spending on travel, an important part of the company's business.\"We found it encouraging that [Mastercard management] reiterated their expectation that cross-border travel can return to 2019's levels by year-end 2022, despite market concern that omicron and/or potential future variants may have pushed the outlook,\" the analyst wrote in a new research note. Now whatWhile thetravel sectorhas been admirably resilient in the face of the coronavirus lately, it's set to really take off (no pun intended) when/if the threat recedes sharply. On top of that, the \"war on cash\" isn't over, and the best digital and card payment processors are on the winning side.
